I'm not a fan at all of this new trend in Star Wars to avoid developing a new planet by showing it obscured by mist and fog. Just feels cheap and unimaginative. The three places they've done it so far (Mimban in Solo, the Clone Wars vision in Ahsoka, and At Achrann in Skeleton Crew) are all fine, I guess, I just hope this doesn't become a recurring thing.

How is the BMFM/Trigun story coming along? How about the updates to Wars Are Won and Evil Jack? <3
Oh boy, my current events.
I got the edits finished on Star Wars: Rescue the Farmboy: Mission on Mimban and started posting it on Ao3 starting on Oct. 18. I finished up rereading Shadows of the Empire for Star Wars WIPs in the rest of October.
When November started, I started on taking my beta's edits to make the third draft of Trigun: Three of a Kind, which is the crossover with Biker Mice From Mars. And then on Nov. 6th, my father ended up in the ER with a brain bleed and seizures from that.
He's doing incredible well and is going back to short-term rehab hospital tonight. But I have only edited 15 out of 21 days so far this month. I was hoping to start posting Trigun: Three of a Kind after Mission on Mimban but it's kind of out of my complete control.
I have gotten Evil Jack: Till Death Do We Part back from my beta, so next up is making the third draft and then publishing. Wars Are Won: Sacrifice of Happiness, the first draft wasn't working so I had to start over giving it some conflict. And then I ran out of August.
When do I pick BMFM WIPs up again? Some months in 2025 that I haven't decided on yet. December 2024 was set for me to work on BookWorm's Library updates, which should be limited to cleaning up dead links and adding new stories. I don't think that will take all of December, so I should have free time to keep plugging at edits. But it all depends on real life not destroying my free time.

This is the best kind of fanfiction: it takes the source material and and while staying true to it plays with it and offers your own interpretation; it weaves the fanfic into the overall story arc and by that in turn enriches canon.

Cassian Andor taking on an Imperial garrison…
Tumblr media
The subtle use of echoing lines in Andor (frequently right through to Rogue One) is so well done, and one example shows Cassian’s character development very clearly…
Tumblr media
When Cassian is first being briefed by Vel about the heist on Aldhani, he reacts with horror at the news about there being an Imperial garrison nearby. Luthen didn’t mention it, and you get the sense that he might not have agreed to take on the job had he known about this extra danger . But of course, he commits and the heist is a success – of a kind.
But afterwards… he doesn’t want to do anything like that again. He wants to “win and walk away” to “somewhere warm and easy” . The irony is – his actions have helped to inspire Maarva, who refuses to leave Ferrix - while praising the actions of the “brave” “heroes” of Aldhani. She’s just indirectly praised him, and you can see that he’s delighted by a split second little spontaneous smile of pleasure that he quickly suppresses. Ouch. He’s finally done something she could be proud of, but he doesn’t want to give her a reason to stay so he has to stay quiet.
Tumblr media
^ Awww 😞
But what’s really interesting is the editing in this masterful and moving scene. On Maarva’s words ‘If there are heroes brave enough to take on a whole Imperial garrison I’m brave enough to stick it out here” we see the flashback of 13 year old Cassian approaching the Troopers with a cudgel, revealing at long last the details of the assault that landed him in youth prison for three years and Mimban after that. The horrifying execution of Clem combined with the injustice and pain of his own punishment has not just traumatised the adult Cassian, it’s also made him somebody who will now avoid a conflict – and therefore the Rebellion– wherever possible.
Tumblr media
‘It’s all useless… it’s better to live!’ is what he told Luthen before Aldhani, but the precise placing of the shot here is very telling.
Cassian is starting to subconsciously associate that act with bravery rather than recklessness. He hates the Empire for what they did to Clem but it has so far translated to trying to ‘live’ and ignore them as much as possible; but his teenage self wanted to fight, to get revenge. Nonetheless it was an emotional response, an impulsive act that was not thought through. This is in total contrast to the calm methodical shots of Wilmon Paak preparing the bomb at the start of Episode 12. Wilmon is balancing emotion with rationality in planning his own revenge, in an arc which otherwise is like a replay of Cassian’s own.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later in Episode 12 Cassian hears from Brasso his mother’s last words for him - all proof not just of how much she loved him but of how much she knew him too. He does indeed now ‘know everything he needs to know and feel everything he needs to feel’. His reasoning and his emotions are now able to work together to be that ‘unstoppable force for good’. He won’t be making emotional but futile attacks like rushing armed Troopers with a stick anymore. He will think, plan, observe and react. But he will act. He is not going to walk away any more. And he’s not going to leave loved ones behind if he can help it…
…Because in a final bit of lines-linking brilliance - immediately after hearing these words of his mother, Cassian prepares to go into the hotel, via the tunnels she checked were open, to rescue Bix.
Incredulous, Brasso says: “Are you going to take on a whole garrison?”
Tumblr media
And Cassian doesn’t verbally reply. The look says it all. ‘I’ve done it before, twice, l’ll do it again, and I’m doing it now.’
It sums up Cassian’s arc so well. From oppression, to fighting back, to running from the fight, to taking up the fight again (now an even more exact mirror of Jyn Erso’s arc too). But this time… having learnt from experience. One lesson being: teamwork matters…
…Because thanks to Brasso and the riot the Troopers are ordered out of the Rix hotel, which is the Empire’s base. Making it possible for Cassian to extract Bix, with the “Imperial garrison” deployed elsewhere. A technique so effective, it will also be used on Scarif to give Jyn, K2SO and himself a chance to reach the data files.
“Light it up …
..Make ten men feel like a hundred “
And that’s how you make a realistic hero. Cassian is somebody who learns and grows despite some bitter experiences.
Tumblr media
Better deploy that garrison, because Cassian Andor is taking it on.

Feeling feelings about Cassian choosing Clem as his pseudonym in "Aldhani." In "Reckoning," Luthen talked about his dad being hanged in the town square, so he presumably knows Clem's name. And earlier in this same episode, Luthen displayed his knowledge of Cassian's experience on Mimban by contradicting Cassian's incomplete story about it, further emphasizing whatever file of intel he has on Cassian. But even knowing that Luthen will recognize it, Cassian still decides to go into this possible suicide mission using his dad's name.

cassian andor headcanons
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
notes: these are my personal hcs for cassian andor. just thought id share them because i never wrote them down before or anything aka;sfl;;
BACKGROUND
that man is AT LEAST 32
idgaf what a star war says he cannot be fucking 26 in rogue one
kenari was a matriarchal society
im probably incorrect but it seemed like there were more girls in the hunting troop he was in in the childhood flashback scenes
it's why he doesn't question vel being the leader of aldhani team or any female leader of a rebel mission. he's like yep that's normal.
also he was raised by maarva carassi andor like cmon
is still fluent in kenari
it's canon that he can speak other languages too so like polyglot!cassian yay
bee had the kenari language downloaded in his system before the empire wiped all public information about kenari
so he could communicate with cassian when he was first brought to ferrix
definitely helped bridge the language gap between the andors and cassian
also helped cassian learn basic
his culture is important to him for sure
i think in his spare time he tries to collect information about his home planet via old holobooks or even physical ones if he can find them
has kept his red and yellow stone necklace in a keepsake box for many years now, likes to take it out sometimes and just look at it.
his necklace connects him not only to his culture but to the few memories of his biological parents
doesn't remember his biological mother much but he remembers the sound of her bangles clinking together around her wrists and her smile
is a back sleeper. they slept in hammocks during his childhood and it's just something that always stuck with him
was definitely picked on at the sipo youth center
like fights in the recreational yard and kids trying to take whatever personal belongings he had on him at the moment
i think at first he kept to himself but over time he grew a small group of friends
safer in a group than on your own when going against the bigger gangs
youth center to military pipeline for sure
he would never see those friends again after the empire transferred him from sipo to mimban for their imperial military campaign
even though he went in as a cook, he still had to do basic training
i think he enjoyed cooking (as much as one can when the empire forces you to do it)
it's the act of providing for others that he likes
ALCOHOL
i hc ferrix as this blue collar community that works in either scrap metal plants or factories which means everyone's a hard drinker lol
like if you don't drink beer at the end of a long day wtf are you doin
there's also a sense of pride to be able to hold your own liquor
it's not a quality that cassian possesses lol
he's not a lightweight but he's def not a heavyweight either
prefers brown liquor over cheap beer tho
SAD DRUNK. MOODY. EMOTIONAL.
not talkative when drunk unless you're a close friend and it's just you two
but he def gets caught in his own depressed emotions and sulks
he's also down to fuck LMAO
SEX&RELATIONSHIPS
bisexual (we all knew this)
total slut (we all knew this too)
i don't think he particularly cares on being top or bottom. he's a true switch if you want to label him
has commitment issues
this is from bix's comment about him being with married women. the marriage forms as a barrier for him not to be too emotionally close to the other person
has definitely paid for sex from prostitutes because of this reason. it's just sex, nothing more. another barrier to prevent closeness
although he mostly did this when he was younger. i think as he got older he slept with prostitutes less, maybe once in awhile
he has also protected hookers from clients that were abusive as well. i can totally see a young cassian that is already filled with rage go apeshit at a customer that was acting violent towards a sex worker he knew
#respectsexworkers - cassian fucking andor
i could go into nsfw hcs but that should be its own post lol
since he and bix were childhood friends, at one point when they were teenagers they tried to date exclusively
they lasted 2 weeks. they took one look at each other and said this ain't for us
doesn't have a specific physical type that he's attracted to
characteristics wise i think he's into people that are confident and can pull their own weight but also someone he can be vulnerable with (he both yearns for intimacy and is afraid of it)
PHYSICAL TRAUMA
while in narkina 5 he received 2nd degree burns on his feet and hands due to the electric shock punishment he experienced
after narkina 5 those wounds healed but the electric shocks had some long term effects as well
sometimes cassian will involuntary jerk his body while he's sleeping
there are days where he'll randomly feel a painful fiery feeling on his feet and hands that will last a few moments before going away
the blaster wound he got in ep 3 left a scar on his arm that never faded away

So I was thinking about Cassian Andor, as one does, and here is a brief series of thoughts:
1. You know how in episode 12 when he sneaks into the hotel kitchen in order to break out Bix during the funeral and surprises that cook? Cass not only recognizes him, but knows his name, and the cook knows him well enough to immediately say, "I'm sorry about your mom."
2. I therefore have decided that Cass and the cook guy (Temik? Terek? Something like that, anyway) had worked together at some point. I don't think Cass has ever been much for steady, on-the-books employment, but I think that when he came back to Ferrix after Sipu and Mimban and whatever he did in that eighteen month gap after, he sometimes worked as a cook.
(3. He lies to Luthen about how long he was on Mimban, because he lies to everyone about how long he was on Mimban, which means he didn't go back to Ferrix after those six months in the mud as a cook when he was sixteen. He went somewhere else, and it's either not something he's proud of or it's illegal enough to get him in real trouble. Or both.)
(4. I think he ran jobs to make money for the first bit after Mimban, learning some Dubious Skills, and then I think he tried to go to Kenari. And I do not think it went well, which is what prompted him to return to Ferrix.)
5. Anyway. When he comes back, he's a mess. He's smart, sure, and capable, but what sort of steady employment would be available to someone who had maybe two or three years or formal education, spent three years in juvie, and then two year supposedly conscripted into the military? He's going to come back to Ferrix traumatized and very, very good with knives. And with at least some basic culinary knowledge, so-- why not cook? But I doubt he'd be willing or able to tolerate the power struggles of a kitchen for long at this point-- self-control does not seem to be a delevoped skill quite yet. So I imagine he's in and out of line cook jobs on the regular, whenever he needs the cash-- until everyone's patience starts to wear thin.
6. But I bet folks still hire him on because (a) it doesn't matter how stupidly complicated the order is, Cass gets it right every time, (b) he might snarl at the head cook or other line cooks, but he's nice to the bus boys and servers, (c) his station is obsessively neat, (d) he brings his own knives and they are VERY nice, and (e) he is good in a crisis-- like, suspiciously good at dealing with scary deep knife wounds and such.
7. But he's absolutely going to ghost you after about three and a half weeks.

WIP Wednesday: Rescue the Farmboy: Mission on Mimban
Tumblr media
I have finished the first draft of Mission on Mimban, the next novel in the Rescue the Farmboy series. I still have editing to do so crossing fingers I get to post it this year.
Luke Skywalker pushed the hyperdrive lever of his X-wing, returning the snub-fighter to subspace. A murky green-white sphere sat ahead with its star, Circarpous Major, angled behind him so they approached the planet’s dayside.
He frowned at the transponder in his cockpit. Mara’s presence in his mind approached. The transponder pinged as her X-wing rippled into existence on his port side.
“Rogue Three reporting in,” Mara Jade said crisply over the comms.
“Rogue Leader acknowledges,” Luke answered. “Ready to explore?”
The Force bond between them reverberated with her unease. “Is enthusiasm required for this mission?”
“Not required, but you can have fun. I don’t want to order you to have fun, so don’t make me.” He had gotten used to broadcasting his goodwill along with those teases, so he did. In the two months since the Battle of Yavin, Mara had decided it was more dignified to not answer in kind. While it was better than deciding the teasing was a verbal attack and responding brutally, he wasn’t sure how the stoicism was going to hold up against other members of the Rogue Squadron.
Mara opted to ignore his teasing. “All readings are coming up terrestrial within the parameters as optimal for the Alliance’s needs.”
“That’s good.” No sense setting up a base on a planet where the oxygen-breathers couldn’t breathe. “You don’t have a datapad out while you’re flying, do you?”
“Of course not,” Mara retorted with a tinge of smugness. “The astromech is flying.”
Luke shook his head and led the way into Circarpous 5’s gravity well. They would have the report filled out in no time with Mara’s focus. Maybe he would have to order her to have fun; if he could ever get out of her what she found enjoyable.
Her smugness descended into a different unease from her earlier fear of blundering. “Rogue Leader, didn’t the mission purview say this planet was undeveloped?”
“Not even a repair station. Why?”
“Shift your comm monitor to frequency oh-four-six-one.”
He did, and a steady whine filled his cockpit. “That’s a directional landing beacon. Maybe smugglers or pirates have set up a base here. We have to know for sure before rejecting the planet for our needs.”
“Copy that,” Mara said.
They descended into the atmosphere. The Force tingled against the back of Luke’s neck. Was that his danger sense? General Willard had stressed they actually had to explore the planet and not avoid it because “the Force said so.”
They had to continue down, but they should take Force observations into account too. He hit the comm. “Rogue Three, how do you feel?”
“Landing here is the worst idea, Rogue Leader.” It sounded like she was speaking through clenched teeth. “Mission parameters don’t allow for the Force to abort.”
“I’m aware,” Luke answered. “We should put it in the report that we both feel it. Continue descent.”
“Aye, Boss.”
He smiled despite how he felt. That was the first time she had used the Alliance slang.
