I know a lot of people don’t like parts of 2x08 especially the Armand part but I myself actually see it as making a bit of sense considering Louis’s ending and have found myself finding actual enjoyment in it.

To me Armand having Louis be killed alongside Claudia and Madeline in the play mirrors Lestat’s words when episode 1x05 is brought up in the trial. Lestat tells us and the audience that he felt he couldn’t keep Louis so he broke him. To me, Armand in this case is doing a similar thing in a slightly more passive (??) way.

Despite everything I feel like he knew that loosing Claudia to the coven in any way would break Louis, that loosing Claudia at ALL would break Louis. (Now for speculation) In the cafe at the end of the 2x06 I don’t get the same happiness off of Louis and Armand as I do Claudia and Madeline because, as Louis has said himself, Louis NEED Claudia even if she doesn’t need him. He will choose others over her constantly but he still NEEDS her fundamentally.

Armand definitely knew this before they started their relationship I don’t think that would ever change. So in knowing the inevitability of Claudia’s death I think Armand would rather Louis die that to have him live and hate him and/or try to kill him.

Which I find actually a lot more interesting as it draws parallels between the men in Louis’s life (which the show does several times through actions or just Daniel brining it up). These two people desperate for companionship and to be loved, finding it in Louis, situations or Louis’s personal issues causing him to pull away from both of them, both feeling that Louis leaving is inevitable and lashing out in different ways out of anger and/or despair.

And to me this all ties in with Louis’s IWTV arc being that he realizes that he needs to figure out who he is on his own which he really hasn’t done since before he Paul died.
