fave scene u boarded this season?
Okay, MAJOR SPOILERS for Jurassic World Chaos Theory Season 2 incoming haha. It's hard to pick just one, so here's a bunch:
Favorite scenes that made it to screen:
The sucho vs. hippo fight (Though sadly I didn't request this one for my demo real because most of the boards are not very pretty/had to be cleaned up by someone else due to time. These panels below are some of the few that look nice enough to show LOL. Originally in the script, there were TWO hippos we called Orson and Welles, but it was just too much going on in that little set, so the whole thing had to be reworked from scratch halfway through the boarding period. My director Mike Mullen and our revisionist Emma Gilles contributed a LOT to this sequence and made my hastily redone roughs actually legible for everyone, and added/refined more after I had to move on in the schedule)

Ben freaking out while everyone piles more and more problems on Yaz

Kenji fixing his dislocated arm while Darius gagged
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Santos sending Red to kill Captain Lang (I have permission to share this one in full, but I need to format it because it's in pdf form).

Favorite scenes that were cut or significantly trimmed down:
Extended scene of Brooklynn feeding Gordon that introduced more of an idea of her having lingering PTSD around dinosaurs, while also highlighting more of the connection between her and Gordon sharing a limb difference. It was a more contemplative scene, but the episode hit 30 or 35 minutes in the initial cut and it could only be 22, so a LOT was cut in the Brooklynn episode (I also have permission to share all of this one, but again need to format it first)

Extended Kenji/Brooklynn break up scene- The first half is still there, which leads into what Rianna originally boarded in 104. A stupid detail I'm proud of- when Kenji leads Brooklynn up the mountain by hand, it's the last time anyone ever holds that hand (in that way). HOWEVER- there was originally a bit more past what Rianna did in 104 that showed how their dynamic/what they both wanted out of their relationship wasn't really in sync. Brooklynn tries to defend her actions to Kenji, but Kenji feels that her work has grown important to her than he is, and Brooklynn actually winds up being the person to say 'Fine, then let's break up!' Which I doubt she mentioned to Darius haha. Anyway, this was again cut because the episode was too dang long.

Bnha makes me so mad because it could’ve been good. It had a lot of good aspects. But in the end none of them were satisfyingly resolved so it just feels bad.

I should probably finagle more specific ways of interacting with Her throughout the DA games. It's honestly not hard, especially for most of the DA protags and companions. She loves an underdog.

Eiffel question for you (kind of a sad one sorry): do you think he would learn sign language after getting back to Earth if he managed to reconnect with Anne? I think early Eiffel probably wouldn't, being too consumed with guilt to even try and chronically unable to commit to anything. But I think he's had enough character development by the end + loves his daughter enough to try and learn. Thoughts?
there was an AMA where they were talking about, like, methods of communication relevant to eiffel's job, i.e. that he knows morse code, and maybe a bit of ASL - and that part lodged itself in my brain, for obvious reasons. at best, he can kinda fingerspell and remembers a couple of common words - enough that he's frustrated he didn't care enough / pay attention before, but not enough to meaningfully practice with. and he wouldn't ask for help; the whole thing where he felt like he was creating distance from his mistakes the longer he went without talking about them... yeah. like you said, i think he'd be too caught up in that guilt spiral to even try.
"if he managed to reconnect" is a whole other complicated thing, but. given the chance? he loves his daughter, he is capable when he cares enough, and he's got more of a support system now, so i hope... i don't think anne is going to want to talk to him right away. and he probably won't cope well; eiffel's got some serious RSD and has historically... dug himself in deeper in situations without an easy fix. but i hope there will be people in his life to keep him on track, and i hope he will learn for anne, for whenever she's ready. "that's the thing about you, eiffel. you try. you really, really try. and then you... stop trying. don't stop."

some game design thinky thoughts.
#it speaks#da gameplay complaints so weird to me. which i say as someone whose favorite combat was origins.#i mean 1 like i just enjoy a lot of different types of games. including crpg style tactical and including action#and inclulding me style arpg#but fr like people just keep saying over and over 'only three abilities???????????' like bro did u know in dai#that one of the warrior abilities was COMBAT ROLL.#a lot of things like that were previously abiliities and can in real time combat become different kinds of mechanics#and lemme say as someone who never invests in combat roll i spend a lot of time in dai fighting dragons by fruitlessly jumping in the hope#that THIS time i might be able to dodge the incoming attack i can clearly see coming (i can't)#idk like the point is obv if you don't like action-oriented combat whatever but complaining about design changes which actually serve#to make GOOD action-oriented combat is wild to me.#love that it's still rtwp my beloved. love giving commands to followers. love that it's built around synergies and that the wheel actually#tells you things like detonation combos and enemy resistances because i love taking advantage of stuff like that but find often in games#that information is overly obscured or a hassle to discover#and if i in real time action combat had 20 different abilities to choose from while still needing to dodge out of the way and pop off#an attack- that would be at worst overwhelming and distracting and at best feel like more than i need.#and at the same time! the skill tree looks great. best i've seen from da (and iterated from other franchises well imo) and still looks#plenty deep and customizable. way more than me's five little blocks or whatever#and wrt to party control yeah i'll miss it i like it a lot!#but again for this style of combat i literally don't think you need it and that's okay!#the game feeling better for what it is is okay!#even in dai like i have a lot of moments in that game where it's actually more a nuisance than anything else to fully switch control#to use an ability. e.g. i usually spec solas out with spirit magic and i almost always will fully enter the tactical cam just to#tell him to cast a barrier. or a revive. or dispel some demons before they spawn in#like i'm literally already just telling him to use abilities and then i switch back to me. and in that game there are def times where i hav#thought yeah this would actually be smoother if i could just tell him to use it +position it!#i spend the most time party switching in origins esp on higher difficulties but obv the game is most fine tuned for that#and you can play through the entire series as if it were an arpg if you want. that's what i did when i was a kid lmfao#well anyways. that's my two cents! i think it'll be really engaging! from what i've seen the game director isn't talking out of her ass!#vir dirthera

Thinking about what Pete is talking about in this clip, specifically the idea of entry points and how that relates to your favorite album. We were having this exact conversation a few weeks back in one of my discords and there’s such a wide spread of what people consider to be their favorite fall out boy album and how that seems to directly correlate to when you started listening (both the age you were and the era it was) and which album you heard first.
Pete also mentions in that clip that (in regards to this same idea with Metallica) that people might have different favorites but those favorites are debatable - the same idea applies to Fall Out Boy. Because each album is so stylistically different from all of the others, it is genuinely hard to compare their “quality” or identify any of them as an objective best. This also makes the concept of having different favorites that we can discuss and debate so much more interesting.

A lawsuit filed by sorority members at the University of Wyoming to block a transgender woman from joining has been dismissed by a judge — despite allegations the student was a “sexual predator” who got physically aroused around them.
Since the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority bylaws do not define what a “woman” is, Wyoming US District Judge Alan Johnson ruled he could not proceed with the lawsuit and dismissed the matter on Friday, according to reports. “With its inquiry beginning and ending there, the court will not define a ‘woman’ today,” Johnson wrote.
Johnson ruled that a federal court could not interfere with the sorority chapter’s freedom of association by ruling against its vote to induct trans student Artemis Langford last year.
“The University of Wyoming chapter voted to admit — and, more broadly, a sorority of hundreds of thousands approved — Langford,” Johnson wrote in his ruling.
“The delegate of a private, voluntary organization interpreted ‘woman,’ otherwise undefined in the nonprofit’s bylaws, expansively; this Judge may not invade Kappa Kappa Gamma’s freedom of expressive association and inject the circumscribed definition Plaintiffs urge.”
Rachel Berkness, Langford’s attorney, welcomed the court’s ruling.
“The allegations against Ms. Langford should never have made it into a legal filing,” Berkness said in an email to the Associated Press.
“They are nothing more than cruel rumors that mirror exactly the type of rumors used to vilify and dehumanize members of the LGBTQIA+ community for generations. And they are baseless,” Berkness said in an email.
The case at Wyoming’s only four-year public university garnered national attention as ongoing issues over the years involving transgender rights for students in schools and athletics have sparked major debate nationwide.
Six members of the university’s Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority filed the lawsuit in March against the national sorority organization, its national council president and Langford — who joined their chapter in September 2022.
The sorority members were seeking to have a judge void Langford’s Kappa Kappa Gamma membership and award unspecified damages.
Kari Kittrell Poole, the executive director of the sorority, told the Associated Press in May that the lawsuit “contains numerous false allegations” without specifying them.
She added that Kappa Kappa Gamma, which has over 250,000 members in 140 chapters across the United States and Canada, does not discriminate against gender identity.
The lawsuit alleged that members felt uneasy around Langford — identified under the male pseudonym Terry Smith in the suit — with one member allegedly witnessing Langford get physically aroused.
“Mr. Smith has, while watching members enter the sorority house, had an erection visible through his leggings,” the suit claimed. “Other times, he has had a pillow in his lap.”
Berkness shared that claims about her client’s behavior and being labeled a “sexual predator” were nothing more than a “drunken rumor” following the suit’s dismissal.
The six sorority members told Megyn Kelly on her podcast in May that they “live in constant fear in our home” with Langford present and that the trans student would stare at women without talking for hours.
“It is seriously an only-female space. It is so different than living in the dorms, for instance, where men and women can commingle on the floors. That is not the case in a sorority house. We share just a couple of main bathrooms on the upstairs floor,” a member, not identified by name, told Kelly.
Cassie Craven, an attorney representing the sorority sisters, said her clients disagree with the ruling — and, more importantly, that the sorority chapter lacks a proper definition of who should be classified as a woman.
“Women have a biological reality that deserves to be protected and recognized, and we will continue to fight for that right just as women suffragists for decades have been told that their bodies, opinions, and safety doesn’t matter,” Craven wrote in an email to the outlet.
It’s unclear if Kappa Kappa Gamma plans on changing its bylaws to adequately define what a woman is for potential issues in the future.

Activism is not cold-calling.
Activism is not cold-calling, and this is critically important to understand.
I'm seeing a lot of posts on here about 'building bridges' and 'finding community,' and then (extremely valid) response posts saying "BUT HOW??" And I'm going to explain something that can be very counter-intuitive: there is strategy involved in community.
As a longtime volunteer labour organizer, I’ve taken and taught many trainings on the strategy of talking. Something that surprises a lot of people is the very first thing you do in a union campaign. You sit down with your organizing committee, take out pen and paper, and literally map it out. You draw a physical map of the workplace: where are the entrances, exits, break rooms, supervisor offices. Essentially, ‘where is it safe to have a union conversation.’ Then you draw another physical chart of your coworkers. You sort out who is union-friendly, openly hostile to unions, or somewhere in the middle, and then you plan out very deliberately and carefully who talks to whom and in what order.
Consider: If Vocally Leftist Jane walks up to Conservative David and says "hey what do you think about unions," David is going to shut down immediately. He's not inclined to listen to Jane. But if Jane talks to Moderate Jason and brings him into the fold, then Jason is a far more effective strategic choice to talk to David, and David may actually hear him out without an instant reaction.
IMPORTANT CAVEAT: If Conservative David turns out to be Alt-Right David, and could be dangerous to follow organizers, we write him off. We are not trying to reach Alt-Right David. We are trying to reach Conservative David, who may actually be persuaded to find solidarity with other employees as fellow workers. Jason is a safe scout to find out which one he is. It does no one any good if Leftist Jane (or even Moderate Jane who is a visible minority) talks to Alt-Right David and puts herself on his radar. Not only has she done nothing to convince Alt-Right David to join a union - she's probably actively turned him against the idea - but now she's also in danger and the entire campaign is at risk. NOBODY WANTS THIS. Jane was NOT a hero for doing this. The organizing committee was foolish and enacted a terrible strategy to everyone's detriment.
Where you can make a difference is with people who will listen to you. You having a conversation with your well-meaning but clueless Centrist Democrat Auntie, and maybe gently helping her understand some things the media has been glossing over, is way more strategically useful than you marching up to MAGA Neighbour You've Met Once and trying to "build community" or "understand" them. They don't care. They're impervious, dangerous, and cruel. But maybe your beloved auntie will think about what you said, and then talk to her friend Anna who IDs as "fiscally conservative" but didn't vote because she can't bring herself to get on board with Trump. Then perhaps Anna talks to her brother Nic who has MAGA leanings but isn't all the way there yet. Proto-MAGA Nic would not have listened to you, nor would he have listened to Centrist Democrat Auntie, but he might absorb some of what his sister is saying.
This is not a cop-out or an echo chamber. This is you spending your time and energy strategically and safely. You are not a useful activist to anyone if you’re dead. Anyone who is telling you to hurl yourself directly at MAGA assholes like cannon fodder has no understanding of the strategy behind community building, and you should feel comfortable writing them off.
Last point: If you are tired, emotionally devastated, and/or in danger: take a break. This post is for people who would feel better jumping into action, not for people who are too overwhelmed to even think about it right now. You are worth so much even if you’re not actively Doing Activism, and your rest is worth more than “a break period so you can recharge and Do More Activism.” We all deserve the individual dignity of being worthy of comfort, rest & safety just on the basis of being human, outside of whatever we're doing for others' benefit. To deny ourselves that dignity is to devalue ourselves, and that’s the absolute last thing any of us should be doing right now.

having a medical issue that dulls your ability to feel certain types of pain is only cool in fiction. in real life it just makes it extra hard to tell if you need to go to the doctor right now, or if you can just walk it off.
#messed up my foot and i can't tell if it's something serious or just a 'stay off it as much as you can for a few days' type of issue#like do i go in and risk paying a doctor to just tell me to ice it and chill out#or do i risk leaving it alone but woops! it was actually serious and now i have permanent damage from walking on it all this time#i've got like weird nerve damage/issues that honestly just has doctors going 'huh that's weird'#and it might explain some of my stupidly high pain tolerance (but only certain types)#but it makes it really frustrating once i need to make the 'do i go to the doctor about this?' decision#like some things that would have people shrieking in intense pain are just like 'hmm i feel...a weird tingling. some kind of pressure maybe#but this actually doesn't help me at all because the whole 'Ahhhhh!!!' pain reaction is to get you to STOP the thing#big old 'danger! danger! hit the brakes you are about to incur serious damage! turn back now!'#except my stupid nervous system is the good old 'nah i think it was just the wind' idiot who dies first in the horror movie#but sometimes i'm like 'oh yeah this is definitely weird i should go to the doctor'#and then the doctor is like 'yeah you just twisted your ankle you'll be fine'#so all this does is fuck up my ability to tell how injured i really am#and they don't even know how i got this or if it's genetic or the result of an old injury or whatever#they just ran a bunch of tests and like gauged my response to pain stimulus#and concluded that yeah it's weird but not gonna kill me so bye#it's not like doctors are jumping to make me feel more pain#i'm not aware of anybody going 'hey doc i would like to feel more pain. i feel like i'm not feeling enough of that stuff'#just not a thing u can ask. also at this point i don't really want to feel it?#like ppl describe the types of pain i can't feel right as really bad so uh no thanks
