It had everything I wanted when I saw the trailer.
Great for movie night. Bring back sexy thrillers. This movie knew what it was. Did exactly what it was supposed to do, and more movies should follow its lead.

I am satisfied. I'd watch a sequel.

devastating to go into the tag for an obscure vampire movie I've been quietly obsessed with for years to find mostly gifsets of minor characters (played by big-name actors) and review blogs saying they didn't like it :(
@ everyone who made a post saying "I liked it :)" I am blowing you a kiss. everyone who made a lovely gifset or photoset of the cinematography I am tipping my hat. that one poster that said "bro did y'all just miss the Entire Message about class and race or???" I am shaking your hand with enthusiasm there was SUCH a message about class and race
anyway everybody should watch Night Teeth and revel in glitzy flashy modern vampires in LA with me
#finx rambles#night teeth#vampires#apparently the marketing heavily overemphasized megan fox (she has a bit role. she's in like one scene)#so that one's not on the fans#but I am sad about all those people fuming bc it didn't have a poly ending#girl this is hollywood? what did you expect?#invent it yourself? that is what fandom is for?? queer reads have always been about discarding endings and living in the liminal??#(side note I love queer readings of fairy tales. fairy tales class was so fun. god I need sleep or something my brain is on SUCH tangents.)#frustrated by that one post saying 'the vampire-slaying gang leader spends the day after a catastrophe befalls#trying to get his shift covered at work? unrealistic'#bro he's working class. he's poor. he's gotta put food on the table. do you think your job cares about your personal tragedy#this is in fact part of the Themes At Play wrt class. believe it or not.#sad also about those reviews that are like 'eh it was mid' but I've never needed critics to agree with me and I'm not about to start now#I did think the gifmakers would be on my side though#the lighting in this movie???#that whole opening sequence in the credits with the storytelling done through reflections in cars at night?#the color choices??? the lighting??!?!?!?!

My Mini Review of Megan's Documentary
When it comes to celeb docs, the main thing that always comes to mind is if it will be surface level to fit a cookie-cutter image. Thankfully, that's not the case for Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Own Words.
Visually, it's a great balance between captured footage and anime-style animation (of course), chronicling her musical and personal journey from 2000 to the present. Vulnerability through raw emotions and thoughts (from her high to low times), as well as the impact of public scrutiny are center stage. I appreciate the way Megan unveils her story. It exudes what it means to be personable, resilient, and letting go of all baggage to soar.
The rap star also magnifies how grief and traumatic situations can lead one to lose themselves, retreat into a shell, and feel alone even in a crowded room. You're either stuck with your own vices to cope, trapped in your own head drowning in misery, or both. But that light at the end of the tunnel shines brightly for Megan when she recognizes enough becomes enough. She takes charge of her narrative and image instead of allowing others to define her.
If you didn't know Megan before, you def know her now.

JUST FINISHED EP 4 OF GROTESQUERIE
I’m eating this show uppp it’s so good and not just because Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Niecy Nash are in it (tho they are killing their roles), but the story, characters, and the cinematography are all so alluring. Anytime any of the actors are on the screen I can’t look away!!! Ugh and the shots, the scene, the setup??? Near perfection!!!
I actually can’t wait for the rest of the episodes to come out and again not just bc NAC’s bare abs/arms/back might be in it… or bc of Niecy Nash’s beautiful raspy voice… or bc of Micaela Diamond’s big green/blue/brown (?) eyes… 😻

Companion: Sophie Thatcher joins the "good for her" cinematic universe
One of my most anticipated releases of the new year was Drew Hancock’s sci-fi thriller, Companion. Starring Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid as lovers—or so we think—this movie was many things but above all, it was fun. It runs a little over 90 minutes and not a second of it goes to waste, though the third act was a touch weaker than the first two acts and could have benefitted from more of the snappy dialogue that made the movie shine. Still, I found more to like about it than not and it’s got the potential to be a fun Valentine’s Day watch—provided your partner doesn’t mind a little gore.
Sophie Thatcher just might be climbing the ranks of the scream queen hierarchy, taking her place near the top alongside celebrated horror icons of this generation, Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Mia Goth. Not only is she magnetic to watch but the emotion—or lack thereof—that she expresses with her eyes alone sets her way above some of her contemporaries. Her character, Iris, was just enough of a manic pixie dream girl in the first half of the movie that her character development feels equal parts realistic and satisfying. Every final girl should come out of their film a little less wide-eyed and a little grittier, and Thatcher does this perfectly. By the time the credits roll, you can tell she’s reached the end of a journey—and you’ve gotten there with her.
Equally impressive was Jack Quaid, who managed to be almost likable before he revealed himself as the quintessential incel tech bro. While it was clear he was a caricature, Quaid’s acting felt fresh in a way that is hard to come by in the latest batch of movies that seem to pander to Millennial and Gen-Z audiences. It’s easy to harp on or make jokes at these generations’ expense; it takes a lot more work and is a lot more worthwhile to write something worth laughing with, not at. Regardless of how you feel about nepo-babies, Quaid is a good one to watch.
I wanted much more from the supporting cast, which included Lukas Gage as Patrick, Megan Suri as Kat, and Harvey Guillén as Eli. I especially wanted more from Suri’s character Kat, who could have subverted the girl-hate trope but instead played into its patriarchal hands. Lukas Gage was fantastic but this movie was overly heavy on fantastic male performances, whereas it only had one truly stand-out female performance: Thatcher’s. That could have been intentional, but it’s 2025: every movie should be passing the Bechdel Test by now.
Performances aside, Companion had stellar writing, fun costumes, and a pretty, yet eerie, soundtrack. The 97-minute runtime flew by and I didn’t want it to end. Thatcher and Quaid had incredible chemistry that was the right amount of off-putting and his pet name for her—”Beep Boop”—was funny and concerning in equal measure. My personal favorite choice the film made was to have it conclude with the same monologue that it opens with. Every good thriller should leave its audience feeling a little unsettled, and Companion did just that.
If you liked Companion, you might enjoy: Fresh (2022), Don’t Worry, Darling (2022), or Ready or Not (2019).
Ladybug rating: 4/5 stars.

Young Justice S2 Ep7 Part 1
This episode was crazy. So many things unfolded in this episode.
First let's talk about how Wally was annoyed and frustrated that Nightwing called for Artemis to help with a mission cause apparently Nightwing knows how they both want to stop living this life. I like how he's overprotective but Artemis wanted to do it so let her. But srsly tho I actually wanna know y they quit being heroes. There has to be a reason.
Artemis was comforting Wally that nothing bad will happen and then this happened. My jaw dropped. I had to cover my mouth cause I gasped so loud. Never had I ever thought that she would die. NEVER.
Now about Connor and Megan, where to start. First off, Megan is actually pissing me off. She had the audacity to be like "oh we're not talking now?" And then Connor replied with smth like "yeah because of you." He then started explaining how her ways of torturing bad guys and causing them to be in a catatonic state is fucked up and that she doesn't understand that. That's y he dumped her. Not because he stopped loving her but because she can't see how she's harming the bad guys in ways unimaginable. Megan then had to say that they r the bad guys but that's not the point. She's literally treating them inhumanely as if all bad guys deserve to be tortured and punished. It's kinda ironic cause everyone rn is hating on aliens and not wanting to be part of them. Megan is a martian yet she literally doesn't give a good impression of aliens when she's hurting bad guys like a mad woman.
When Megan asked Connor y he hadn't told the others about her ways of using her powers, what Connor said afterwards hurt. He said smth like "I thought I meant a lot to you that you would stop yourself willingly but you didn't". That just shows how her love for him wasn't equally as strong as it was from his side. She'd rather abuse her power than be with Connor. Connor deserves better.
Lmao I loved how Nightwing pulled Artemis down and mentally scolded her being all like "I get u haven't been doing the gig for a while but r u trying to get urself killed?" He's such a mood.
Their fight scenes r everything.

NIGHT TEETH (2021)

It was often hard to take Debby Ryan seriously as a big bad wolf but that is only because she is such an unserious person. Otherwise the casting choices seemed fair. Also this movie is claims to be an action movie but most of the action happens off screen so, do with that what you will.
⭐⭐⭐

Benny is our hapless driver who just wanted to get a few extra bucks for the night by taking his brother Jay’s shift as a chauffeur. His passengers end up being two spunky vampires (Blaire and Zoe) who are on a mission to make the town theirs in one night so they are going place to place killing folks and Benny has to drive them (sad!). They have another teammate, Victor, and he is off killing Megan Fox and Sydney Sweeney who are vampires (respectively). Jay is a vampire hunter who has been targeted on this takeover night so now Benny is in the crosshairs.

They go to a party, they leave a party, they go to another party, Benny walks in on them killing dudes when they are not supposed to be allowed to be killing dudes (they are supposed to be allowed to be vampires though, Benny just didn’t know that ‘til now). Now Benny is very scared and he tries to go to the cops but the cops have been bought by the vampires (oh no!). The master plan is unfolding and Benny just wants to go home. They end up at a nightclub where there is a real panic at the disco because a vampire was dying on the dance floor but patrons just thought another patron was dying in the middle of a good time! Wack!

Finally we get to Victor's house and we have the final battle, Blaire doesn’t want Benny to die (he has saved them a few times this evening) so Zoe tries to kill her (sad!), this leads to Benny saving the day for her and killing Zoe. Jay kills Victor but not before Benny gets a very serious injury, he is dying! Benny is kept alive because he drinks Blaire’s blood and is now a spooky vampire, wow! Now Benny and Blaire are dating or whatever and are vampire BFF’s it is kind of cute but also kind of toxic like Blaire with Zoe. End movie!

Companion

Summary: Josh (Jack Quaid) and his girlfriend Iris (Sophie Thatcher) meet up with some friends at a billionaire's house for a weekend of fun. Things quickly go south.
Funny, dark, and bloody with great performances from cast and twists that don't feel left-field. First great film of 2025.

Lakewood by Megan Giddings is an intriguing sci fi horror about human experimentation and the exploitation of poor and Black research subjects. Lena Johnson needs to be accepted into Lakewood: the study would give her the money she needs to support her sick mother and be able to continue attending college as well. As long as she keeps the study secret and confidential, it should be fine—but how far will she go for stability? How much is she willing to sacrifice?
Megan Giddings' writing and I don't get along. I'm not surprised its first three chapters won a prize, as those were the most compelling. It's a fundamental mistake for this book not to be in 1st person; it is a deeply close 3rd pov that's all about what is and isn't real, and I believe it's the main reason the writing often came off as awkward to me—it had to explain what Lena was feeling or experiencing, her thoughts, but from just outside, which led to a detached feel to the storyline.
I found the experiments and the entire experience of Lakewood compelling and upsetting. There's a true element of social horror here, as every time Lena considers leaving, she thinks about how much she needs the money, and stays. That desperation is so brutal and relatable that it powers much of the book. The end was unsettling and unresolved. While it makes sense for only so much to be resolved—part of the point of the book is the destabilizing nature of the research project, Lena's inability to know what did and didn't happen, and what people can get away with—the ending did still lack a sense of urgency.
Content warnings for medical trauma, body horror, sexual assault, torture, gaslighting, abuse, grief, misogyny, racism.

So proud of Twice! Mamushi feat. Twice is a bop! I'd wondered how these two very different artists would fit together, but they sound so good! Twice sound great and their gentle voices fit the song so well. Their rap worked too. I love that Megan changed her verses for the remix. I really wish he song was longer!!! It's too short :(

Megan Shepherd's TNBC Novelization: Review
Here are my thoughts and full review on Megan Shepherd's Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (Novel). Although the book is closely based on the movie, there are a few unique things about it that I deem necessary to hide under a 'Read More', for spoilers to those who wish to avoid them.

Review + my thoughts below!
The book closely follows the movie with descriptives for each scene, except it doesn't contain any of the songs or lyrics, so substitutional dialogue is used instead. Most of these went well to describe/summarize the songs they replaced. I have no complaints with how Megan followed the movie in novel form, it's pretty accurate beyond some...minor things.
One example: Halloween just ended when Jack goes missing and stumbles upon Christmas Town, and when he comes back, he decides to have Halloween Town handle Christmas themselves. It's noteworthy to mention that they manage to do this from only November 1st - December 25th, a timespan of only 2 months. However. In this novel, the timing is changed - and it takes the Town a whole year to manage their own Christmas, and it is stated in the text that they "skipped their first Halloween" in order to do it.
Wouldn't the humans notice something different with Halloween, without the monsters and creatures of the night to scare them? Wouldn't it be kind of lame, and warrant the title of a "bad Halloween"? When Santa Claus and his gifts were missing, the humans nearly brought an end to Christmas. Is Halloween exempt from impacting the humans like this? Wouldn't there be any repercussions? Isn't it the Holiday World's purpose/job to bring the holiday TO the humans??
Anyway!
The text is beautifully written and I loved Megan's portrayal of Jack Skellington's internal struggle and depression, and how Sally related to it. She wrote the two of them wonderfully in the novel and even brought new details into the picture, mentioning Sally had done sewing tasks for him and is the one who recommended putting white stripes on his suit. She also delivered his book of The Scientific Method from the Doctor to him. <3

The novel contains a lot of little details/changes like these. I loved most of them and only had minor issues with a couple choices. One particular recurring mention, that I and other readers have disliked, was the heavy reference and implication to Jack Skellington's death. A few times in the novel, he thinks of his "previous life" and how he died. I share a fandom headcanon that Jack is a special skeleton from a species in Halloween Town itself, rather than him just dying. But this is a personal nitpick and doesn't impact anything, really - it's Megan's choice for his backstory, and I respect that!
Another small nitpick of mine is that I always thought Jack nabbed all the Christmas books from Christmas Town, but in this novel, it says that he got them from Halloween Town's Library. This brings all sorts of confusing questions into my mind...
A couple of my favorite lines from the book:

Also, the MOST interesting part of this novel, for me, is how it follows The Pumpkin King Game's backstory for Oogie Boogie, where he attempted to overthrow Jack Skellington to become Bug King. The novel mentions this a few times, and it's one of my favorite takes of Oogie Boogie - so I was delighted to see canon from my favorite TNBC game implemented into the novel!

Overall, I loved this novelization and the new headcanons it brought to me. It was wonderfully written and stayed close to the movie while also portraying the author's own takes on the characters and their feelings. Beyond my few minor nitpicks, it was great and I can't wait to see what the author will do with Long Live the Pumpkin Queen's sequel.
Check out this novelization if you can!
