I was thinking about this on the bus awhile back before school vacation, and just now im deciding to share my thoughts!

Bakugou:

I believe Bakugou would listen to hard rap. He works out a lot, so he probably listens to music that fits the vibe and gets him pumped y’know? HOWEVER, i also believe he listens to rock. the grittiest, edgiest, stuff. MCR, Get Scared, others with similar sounds. He doesn’t listen to pop, but some songs he likes (you’d have to catch him dead before he ever admitted it tho lol). I think he’d prefer masculine voices over feminine ones, but i think he could vibe to a female singer.

Kirishima:

He doesn’t listen to anything sad, he doesn’t want his mood to drop. Like Bakugou, he listens to music that pumps him up. Unlike him tho, it isn’t hard rap. It’s songs like Hall of Fame, Believer, For the Glory, Fight Song, etc. He has a preference for masculine voices because MANLY. He doesn’t mind female singers tho.

Honestly, i think his playlists would be all over the place. No one wants to do this but they have to at least fake it so that they can graduate as successful heterosexuals. They are being taught to be perfectly straight which is cruel in itself because they are being taught to be anything but their authentic selves. 

Gender was also a big role player in this movie. Along with being forced to change their sexuality, they had to relearn their genders. The women were taught to clean and be the perfect housemaker and be super feminine, while the boys were taught how to do “manly” things such as fixing cars, chopping wood, and in general, acting manly. The movie does great by showing these scenes of them acting out their roles because it gives a sense of how women and men are seen in society and what is expected of them. Unfortunately, some people still have the mentality that this is how each gender is supposed to act, especially when it is portrayed constantly in media.

The Yugioh dub is still the best children’s English anime dub, despite the censorship.

I believe that in my opinion that the Yugioh dub by 4kids was actually better than people said it was and it is still the best English dub for a children's anime, despite the fact that it was heavily censored and had major plotline changes. The dub still holds up even without nostalgia glasses because it was trying to not be a typical shonen anime like the original Japanese version and it is a perfect example of how to turn a shonen/shoujo anime for teens into an anime for kids in a correct manner. Now, let me tell you why most people still praise the Yugioh dub as one of the greatest English dubs ever, even it is a hack dub.

The first reason is the stellar dub voice cast and direction that 4kids has put out in high quality. All of the voices perfectly fit the characters naturally when they were cast and were having voicing the characters. Dan Green really brought the main protagionist Yugi Moto and Atem in distinct ways. He gives a deep and commanding voice to the Pharaoh Atem in which makes him a father figure to Yugi in advanced. He also gives a beliveable teenage vice to Yugi without sounding so old. Wayne Grayson gives Joey Wheeler a not cartoony Brooklyn accent that made him iconic for any line that he gives. Amy Birnbaum voice for Tea Gardner has to be my favorite because of how spunky and feniamine she brings in the character when she was given a moment to shine. For example, in episode 24, Birnbaum really nailed the anger and sadness better than the sub va when she stood up against Kaiba for mocking Yugi when Yugi lost to him, and that felt so emotional and real to me when she yelled at Kaiba. Greg Abbey fits perfectly as Tristan Taylor with that teen suave voice that he portays. Megan Hollingshead plays Mai Valentine with a sexy and husky voice that was really perfect for the character. Ted Lewis brought an extraordinary British accent to both sides of Bakura and makes him sound more manly. Finally, the voice that made me automatically watch only the dub is Set Kaiba's dub va, Eric Stuart. Eric Stuart really had the most quotable lines out of all of anime dub history and his voice is what Kazuki Takahashi envisioned for the character.

The next reason for the dub still holding up is to do with the stellar writing in the dub's scripts. The humor was written well and did not feel cartoony for the most part. The writing from the dub made the anime stand out from other shonen anime dubs and make it not a typical shonen anime like DBZ or One Piece. The name changes for the character actually made sense compared to other dubs from the 90s and 2000s (excluding Digimon).

The final reason of why this dub is still watchable was the dub's music and songs that are still high-quality to this day. The dub music fits the series way better than the Japanese music/songs. The BGM for the dub is still one of 4kids' best dub replacement music ever alongside Pokemon and Mew mew Power. The vocal soundtracks that they made (Music to duel by and Pyramid of Light movie) were filled with banger 2000s songs that range from, pop punk, techno, and Disney/Broadway styled songs. Two of my favorite songs from the soundtrack "Music to Duel By" are "We'll Be there" and "Face Up, Face Down" because they remind me of the Disney Renaisance era so very much and the dub voice actors are also wonderful singers.

So to conclude, the Yugioh dub is till worth watching to this day for a 2000's children's English anime dub. It was the reason why Yugioh became popular in the US and created Little Kuriboh's Yugioh Abridged. I hope that everyone should rewatch the dub and see that it was still watchable despite the censorship and rewrites that 4kids did.

2021: Darcy posts a question from Twitter, asking if on a date with a person which book would make you leave immediately.

2022: Maya and Pyotr meet in the mansion's gym and nothing explodes. Clint posts an update to eXcalibur about tech and wormhole duties. Felicia shares an Instagram story noting that people can buy their own damn flowers. Matt shares an image reminding people to mind their written communication, for legal reasons. Clarice posts an embroidery that she’ll be hanging on her door. Following meeting Maya, Pyotr texts April to ask what “Starfleet” is. Kyle shares a knock knock joke one of his students told him.

2023: Maya is deeply unimpressed with Tik Tokkers teaching incorrect ASL. Jean-Phillipe encourages everyone to celebrate Eurovision with himself and Marie-Ange. Clarice announces it’s time for CPR recertification. Terry and Arthur have a typical morning discussion in the suite he shares with Kyle - right up until something slightly unusual happens.

Had to write another Sara and Hunter movie night fic to follow up the one I wrote about Elizabethtown

Sara had said that Hunter could pick any movie she wanted for their next movie night, but she was afraid she was watching this particular movie incorrectly.

Hunter had gotten incredibly excited when she’d found out that Sara hadn’t seen But I’m A Cheerleader and had promised that Sara would love it.

It wasn’t fair to say Sara didn’t enjoy it, she definitely did. The bright colors, over-the-top costuming, and campy humor were all a lot of fun. But she could tell, from watching Hunter’s face, that they were getting very different things from the film.

Hunter was watching to appreciate the awkwardness and passion of first love and for the life-changing rep of seeing two women kiss on the screen.

But Sara couldn’t help focusing on the satirical takedown of gender and the all too real isolation of having parents who couldn’t love and accept you as you are.

The main character Megan’s parents said that if she chose to pursue this lifestyle she’d be choosing to cut them off. The conversion camp’s cruel director Mary repeatedly shamed her son Rock for not being manly enough. It all hit a little too close to home.

They watched it on YouTube, free with ads, and during the commercials, Hunter explained why the movie meant so much to her.

“I think I’ve always known I was queer, but I didn’t have the right words for it until I saw this movie. I was nine, almost ten, and we picked it up at Blockbuster. My parents have always been pretty open, I’m sure they knew before I did, so they let me watch it with them. It was like someone flipped a light switch.”

Sara loved hearing about Hunter’s past, but she could see why this movie didn’t make Hunter feel called out. If your mom and dad loved and accepted you, then seeing characters forced to straighten out by their parents was just something happening on screen. But if your family had kicked you out for performing the gender they forced on you incorrectly, then it was going to cut a little deeper when Graham chose to fake being straight so she didn’t lose her dad and stepmom.

Another commercial started, and Sara made herself focus on something else so that she didn’t drown in her own memories. “Who was your first crush, since you’ve always known?”

“Hmm… I think I was in first grade. Her name was Minnie, everybody adored her. She gave everyone in our class a nickname, including me. My nickname was Lemon, I assumed that meant she thought I was sour or something. I spent the whole school year trying to get her to like me. And on the last day of school, I finally asked why she hadn’t given me a nicer nickname.”

“What did she say?”

“She told me lemons were her favorite. I was smitten. Then she moved away and I moved on. And all those little lemon loves led me to you.”

Hunter leaned over and pressed a kiss into Sara’s neck.

“Then I have Minnie to thank. Because I couldn’t imagine being here with anybody else.”

As the ads ended and the movie started back up, Sara continued to see herself in Rock, who danced to girly music and stole glances and gentle touches with “ex-gay” Mike (RuPaul). The graduation ceremony at the end even almost looked like a gay wedding for the forbidden pair, except for all the gaudy plastic clothes the graduates had to wear.

In the end, Megan and Graham got their happy ending but Sara was stuck with Rock, who would forever be ridiculed by his bitch mother for not being enough of a man.

“Did you like it?” Hunter asked, studying Sara’s face.

“It felt very powerful,” Sara said after a moment. “I can see why you love it.”

“But?”

“It just makes me feel eighteen again when my parents gave me a… What’s the word, false dichotomy? No, ultimatum. Making me choose between being their kid, their son, or being myself.”

Hunter’s brow furrowed. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to bring up bad memories.”

“It’s okay, I did the same when I made you watch Elizabethtown.”

“Yeah, but I probably enjoyed Elizabethtown more than you enjoyed this.”

“Maybe, but I liked seeing through your eyes and learning more about you. And,” Sara brought her lips inches away from Hunter’s, “I liked being reminded there’s always a chance at a happy ending.
