Money-Making Strategies for Philosophers
Many philosophers used to work outside of academic institutions. For them, being a philosopher in academia often felt impossible. They took unconventional paths to earn a living, often working in unrelated fields or living on small budgets.
The most popular actor in India once said, ā€œFirst, get rich, then become a philosopher.ā€ We all know he is none other than Shah Rukh Khan. But what if someone wants to be an academic philosopher? Is there anything wrong with that? Moreover, what if a person wants to achieve wealth through philosophy and philosophical thinking? From a modern perspective, philosophy is not limited to academia,ā€¦

i know some of the poets outside of their books, like cameron awkward-rich; who was my seminar teacher for a semester in grad school. you know him, he wrote about keeping his hand on the walls of his stupid heart. he gave us a journal without lines in it, so the pages were all blank and naked. we had to write down 3 words every day, ruminations on our own lives.
in pink glitter pen, i watched my handwriting cramp and spill from pristine and well-meaning to the slant of someone deeply suffering. the words stopped being lyrical over the course of february. bad, it said. bad and bad and bad. each day carving out a little bit of marrow, the sparrow of my heart acting as roadkill. that winter i was only allowed to eat apples, like a horse. my ocd had decided i could only touch food if it was red. i was sleeping on the floor and a spider bit me.
i wanted him to be my thesis advisor, but it was covid the next year, and we never spoke again, and i'm worried that i embarrassed myself by asking him repeatedly. for my final project in his class, i wrote about my disability. i called myself a rat, fondly.
his most famous poem is titled Meditations in an Emergency. i didn't know it until three weeks after i had graduated from that university.
at one point, he sat me down after class just to discuss some of my work. it was a night class, and we were all a little drowsy. he blinked up at me. i think sometimes the way you see the world is a little bit alarming. i wonder about that, in hindsight. i wonder if all of us who are walking on thumbtacks always recognize when someone else's spine is the undulating form of a siren. i could see it in him and you can see it in me, if you're looking.
yesterday nat said some of this is worrying.
i told cameron i was fine and i told nat i was fine, but i think maybe all of us had learned a long time ago how to be fine the way a poem is fine - because it happens outside of you. it can be honest, the confession, but it cannot be spelled out across your ribs. we make our art so that the sorrow can hang, limbless, trembling on the fetid walls beside us.
you learn to turn the ugliness into some kind of work, because you must smash the entire human experience of your stupid bones and teeth and tongue into something, so that you have anything to show for it. otherwise, what is the fucking point. why were you suffering, if not to polish the runoff and say - the melancholy is the signature of my art. i took the splinters out of my gums and filed them down into a thesis. the thesis has been turned into a book which is getting published.
cameron, to my knowledge, still has not read it.
i hope he has found his way out of the maze. i hope you and i one day write our own lanterns. i hope we are able to find some kind of peace without viscera. without having to fight for it. i hope we are able to stumble without falling. i hope one day the sky is empty of vultures and we can cross the desert of our memories without starving.
in the meantime we get up and leave the circled shadow in the writing.

Sun in the houses
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
āœ©Sun in the 7th houseāœ©
Sun in the 7th house are generally very well-liked and popular people. A Sun in the 7th house cares a lot about others, as it's in others that they assert themselves. They are people who need to be close to others, whether with their close friends, their family, or their romantic interest.
Because the other person's opinion is so important to them, they can sometimes be shaken by what other people think of them. They are people who are generally always well-groomed and presentable because they like to make a good impression.
In the work environment, they are people who generally have many friends and colleagues and are always aware of all the gossip that is going on. They are pleasant, lighthearted people who generally do not have a fixed opinion about something or someone, but they usually can make friends easily. They don't like arguments, or they try to minimize them as much as possible. They have a good style in general and they love to receive compliments.
I am a reflection of the other person: this may be their unconscious motto. They always want to be accompanied, preferring to go out with someone. Romantic relationships generally have a great importance in their life, since love, affection, romance and the well-being that the other can provide to them are things that are good for the Sun in the 7th house.
āœ©Sun in the 8th houseāœ©
People with the Sun in the 8th house are profound, you may think you know them, but in reality you only know what they let you know. They are observant people, before acting they observe everything around them, almost always going unnoticed. Because they have this type of nature, these people generally have an arsenal of information about the people around them and, with that, this is where the Sun in the 8th House stands out, as they have a ace up in their sleeves to deal with both their friends and enemies.
This silent observation usually extends to the work environment, where the person generally knows how to influence or even exercise control over their colleagues or subordinates.
People in this house generally go through long periods of emotional retreats, just like the 4th house, however these retreats are focused on oneself, on one's soul. They are constantly changing their emotional and psychic skin, they need to get rid of old emotional baggage and open up to new things, as this house also talks about Scorpio, a sign that governs detachment and symbolic death.
These people tend to act silently in the "dark", as they don't like others knowing what they do or don't do.
With a deep and fixed concentration, when they are interested in something or someone, these people put all their focus on finding out everything about it. For the 8th house, no information is enough, they always want to know more. With great intensity and vitality, they are magnetic people, who know how to attract others, stirring them up.
āœ©Sun in the 9th houseāœ©
These people take great pleasure in being in contact with knowledge, whether it be expanding their mind and soul through readings, colleges, seminars, or even taking trips that can enhance their spirit. They are people who have a need for questioning, seeking to understand society and the world through large lenses, which is why they often seek religion or greater contact with the divine, through practices such as meditation or yoga.
They love moving around the city where they live, the wider they get to know it, the better, generally they have already seen most of the state they live in. They are people who are generally light, not attached to others or to intense emotions, they generally only cling to what they believe in, as they need a motto to live by.
These people generally exude lightness, always bringing a smile on their face or making a joke to their group of friends. They probably have a travel itinerary programmed somewhere in their mind, because contact with the outside world, something that is greater than what they already know on a daily basis, is very important for a sun in the 9th house.
They are also people who seek justice, since they spend so much time philosophizing about life and the things that surround it. Professions that involve law, travel, other cultures are excellent for them.
āœ©Sun in the 10th houseāœ©
These people need to feel useful. Their goals, no matter what they are, are very important to them. Because they are at the top of the zodiac wheel, in one way or another these people attract attention, whether at work, at home as a figure that everyone admires, or in their community. The10th house is about the collective, the social, society in general and these people shine for the collective. A Sun in the 10th house has a strong but cold light, in the sense that they have a rational mind, which calculates all strategies before acting on their purpose.
Ambition and focus are the two words that define the people of this house, no matter how hard things may be, this person will move forward with their ambitions, preferring to fail while trying rather than never trying and failing. They are generally very strong people, they can handle more than most people can. These people real enemies are their fear of failure and their arrogance. If they listen to it then they will probably stop presenting themselves to society out of fear of failing, of not being good enough, and if they listen to their arrogance they can and will, over time, lose their brilliant charm, since everyone can clearly see who they truly are, since the 10th house is the highest house and the sun shining here shows everything to everyone.
Romance, friendship, calm and peace can take second or third place, being successful in their life is one of the most important thing for them, no matter the cost.
āœ©Sun in the 11th houseāœ©
They care about the collective, they are usually people who are volunteering, whatever the cause, they are generally recycling their trash, using sustainable food and clothing. Because they see society as their home, it's very important to them to feel included in it.
They are cool, intelligent, political and critical. You can't change the opinion of a Sun in the 11th house, unless you're smarter than them, but they can change yours. They are people who communicate well, they know how to win people over through their ability to argue and debate.
As this is a cold house, governed by the Air element, they tend not to get attached to emotions or people, as everything tends to flow in this house. They are not really interested in trying to keep someone in their life, unless other aspects say otherwise, they let things come and go freely, and generally expect the same from people, as they hate feeling trapped, contained.
They are people who think a lot about the future, always having a project in mind for 10 or 20 years from now. The interesting thing is that they don't just care about their future only but about the future of the collective as well.
A Sun in the 11th house is liked by many, they're important to people, be it their friends, their online network, their community, etc. They have their tribe but they also moves around others, without necessarily getting attached.
These are people who love to have some connection with electronics, the internet, in general.
āœ©Sun in the 12th houseāœ©
With a gigantic intuitive capacity, people who have the Sun in this house are generally able to see people's intentions, generally understanding their motives too, even if it's bad. Focused on their emotional and inner life, just like the 4th and 8th house, these people spend more time in their heads than they actually do in the world around them. They are quiet, usually a whole universe of intricate thoughts are going on in their head, so it can seem like these people are not really present. When they are present it's for a short time, as they prefer to be physically present, but mentally absent, generally. When they are present they are observant, preferring to listen, absorbing what the other person has to say, which is why they are great listeners.
They need time alone, it is essential that a Sun in the 12th house finds space to be alone with themselves, or they feel drained and worn out.
In the work environment, unless other aspects indicate, they do not have a very strong presence, preferring to follow orders, not questioning too much. It is vital that these people can transcend the mundane day-to-day life with some solace in the arts, be it music, cinema, literature, etc.
They may suffer from health problems if their body does not obey a certain level of rest and relaxation.
They are artistically gifted, whether they know it or not. Use and abuse the arts, write, dance, free yourself and you will find a precious outlet to deal with your day-to-day life in a more practical and centered way.

HEADCANON AND THOUGHTS
Tumblr media
Reposted because I want to add this drawing - yeah I forgot to add it yesterday šŸ˜Œ
After an awesome discussion with one of my friends here, I finally set how my OC and Plo Koon would be.
ONLY MISSING HER NAME! LOL
Although Plo is a Jedi and cannot have attachments strictly according to Jedi teaching, the brotherhood between him and his troopers and the father-daughter relationship with Ahsoka are all evidence of attachment, and he has done nothing detrimental to them or to the overall situation because of these attachments. He only offers positive emotions, unlike those that are destructive and self-consuming.
So here we go.
Choosing between an army doctor and a medical droid researcher/technician is hard and I went with the latter. In the SW universe, most medical tasks are performed by droids. Technicians and researchers seem to contribute much more than real doctors.
So, during a rescue mission, she met Plo Koon and kept in touch with him. The two discussed and shared various issues/opinions related to life, technology, law and humanities. She wasn't force sensitive.
One day, she was invited to Dorin for a seminar. Dorin was a planet that placed great importance on technological development and the rule of law, and her talents were highly valued. Behind all this, it was Plo Koon who recommended her. On Dorin, she saw Plo without his mask for the first time, meditating with the Sages. He took her around the planet and told her all sorts of strange and interesting things there.
During that unforgettable journey, she learnt that Plo was a Jedi - not only a Jedi, but also a member of the Jedi Council, deeply loved and respected. But soon, her worst fear came true: she was won over by his charm and gentle character, so that she fell more and more in love with him. When she asked him how he felt about her, he had to tell her everything about being a Jedi, their mission, what they protected and how their relationship would evolve. He gave her enough patience and time to think about it and let her make the best decision. They chose not to see each other for the time being until she figured out how to handle this matter, and he would accept any decision she made, and no decision would change his feelings for her. During this time, she was not happy for a single day. She eventually came back to him and told him that after much thought, she still wanted to be with him, even if they had to keep their relationship a secret.
Love wasn't supposed to be selfish, she understood that very well since she worked in the medical field, long hours and with dedication, much like the Jedi did. She wouldn't worry about his missions and his absence, nor would he be jealous of her sacrifice to her work, droids and patients. It turned out that it was much easier for two responsible adults to maintain good communication and balance everything in their lives. Plo also started to strengthen his power, knowledge and ability thanks to the positive aspects brought by such precious attachment.
Their secret marriage was later held on Dorin.
Eventually, the CW broke out and Plo Koon left her as a Jedi General for the battlefield. She temporarily gave up her job in the production, repair, and research of medical droids and handed it over to someone she trusted. She resolutely chose to follow the army, first so she could see him, and second so she could provide aid to the wounded on a voluntary basis - her love for life and clones was no less than his. They were supposed to keep their meetings a secret during their free time in the army, but in fact, the 104th Battalion knew of her existence - Wolffe and the others even saw Plo as their father and she, their mother. They just laughed at this idea.
As the war drew to a close, Plo Koon was thinking of retiring and starting a future with her. The day before he left for Cato Neimoidia, he had given himself over to love, to intimacy, to sex - he had given himself over to that with her before, but not to this extent. Days later, Plo crashed and died under fire from his own soldiers during Order 66 massacre. After learning his death and who shot him down, she was heartbroken by the betrayal and left the army.
She later gave birth to the posthumous child of Plo, a force sensitive human-Kel Dor hybrid daughter with the same hair as hers, Kel dorian sensory organs, human facial features, Kel dorian skin color and pattern. As the child grew older, she was ready to tell her of her father's deeds, but the daughter told her: A blue man appeared in my room yesterday and said he was my father. Is this true?
Of course Plo became a force spirit, always guarding her and their daughter. In the end, her daughter became a Jedi and joined the Rebel Alliance.

Hey can I just rant. Soo..
I've been listening to aff tapes overnight (recodred my voice sayibg affs and looped it) but...nothing. I literally detached as well as I'm too busy during the day too think about my desires as I'm a full time uni student and busy in lectures seminars workshops and writing notes and PowerPoint and assigenment exams. But even I do think about I think about it positively and move on I affirm positively disregard and break the negative thoughts (although I rarely have negative thoughts or doubts)But nothing idk what's like šŸ˜
Blockages donā€™t exist but we sometimes put limiting beliefs on yourselves even without noticing, you can look into this by doing some shadow work, ask yourself introspective questions on the issue and dig deep into why this is happening. You can also do a reprogram, by affirming self concept affirmations and building a routine of meditation (5 minutes to start is enough).
Some shadow work prompts might be:
- Is there something Iā€™m overthinking on?
- What do I honestly think is stopping me?
- Do I really believe in the law/shifting?
- What am I good at?

There Are Three Things I Donā€™t Envy
One, I don't envy magical power. Many people gave me a leaf, a stone, saying they went to India or Tibet, or I meditated on a Buddha statue, and then suddenly got peace of mind and a leaf fell on their head. What am I supposed to do with that?
Second, I don't envy people who try to look for inspiration outside. You pay 8000 dollars to attend a yoga or samadhi seminar, when come you out, you're the same person. We have all goodness of human being within. Why do we look for that outside? Some quotes give us tenderness in our mind. It's because the author realized something in their mind, not from the outside.
Third, as a Buddhist practitioner, I don't envy people practice riding on excitement. Many people practice or do retreat when excited. When not excited, everything is forgotten.
What about continuity, stability, single-pointedness of mind? We focus so much on external, materialist things. This includes your devotion to teacher. You demand teacher should think, do what you like. And we extremely attach to the outer form of a teacher, instead of looking at their inner qualities.
To be born as human being, we have and should cherish our immeasurable inner qualities - pure goodness, genuineness. But when look within, we are frightened with so many emotions on surface, then tell ourselves " don't want to look any more. It's too much."

Hey! Can you please do where somebody is acting violent and aggressive at Lottie's compound towards her, and maybe she is just stunt to do anything because of trauma when Shauna beat her, but female reader (Lottie's girlfriend) is immediately there and she shields Lottie with her body and protects?
NEW ARRIVALS
pairing: lottie matthews x fem!reader
word count: 1174
notes and warnings: ok so hot take i feel like adult lottie would be more apt to smack a bitch that went after her (thinking of that scene w travis where she got rlly triggered and shoved his ass against a wall lmao) so i deviated from the original request a little but we still get tons of drama and big strong reader ok ,,, also this is not proofread
Tumblr media
You loved running the wellness center with Lottie. It was fulfilling to help other people heal, to see them blossom in a way they only could in trusting themselves, trusting you.
But new arrivals to the compound, more often than not, caused more trouble than they were worth. Even though their arrivals were usually voluntary, the new residents always carried the same suspicions, the same emotional guards. It was more difficult than you wouldā€™ve liked to get them settled in, get them to trust you, especially with what was known of Lottieā€™s past.
Sooner or later, however, all of them submitted ā€” almost all of them.
There was one woman, in her early 20s, you thought, who simply wouldnā€™t relent. She had been pressured into joining the wellness center by her sister, and ever since youā€™d taken away her phone and her belongings she had spiraled. She was erratic in her behavior and moods, and you never knew what to expect from her. One day she would be making progress, the next she would be worse than when she came to the compound.
Lottie had placed her in a meditation class that she taught, and at the end of the class was a healing circle, a place where those who wished to could talk about their struggles, about conflicts they were having with others inside or outside the compound, and could resolve them.
To put it lightly, the woman in question, Dana, never did well with healing circles.
In any case, you thought you were making progress with her ā€” you had a private session scheduled with her every Tuesday after her meditation class, and you usually showed up five or ten minutes early to watch the healing circle. You needed to see what mood she was in that day, and besides that, you wouldnā€™t give up an opportunity to see Lottie.
But that day, everything had gone awry. You and Lottie had woken up late, both a bit hungover from the night before, one of the rare occasions the two of you had broken and allowed yourselves some fun. Youā€™d been half an hour late to teach a yoga class, and Lottie had been meant to teach a seminar that had to be canceled and rescheduled.
The whole day had put both of you in an exceedingly irritable mood, and when the time came for the meditation classā€™s healing circle, everything escalated.
Dana ā€” the new, ill-tempered arrival ā€” was in one of her moods. She hardly complied with anything Lottie was teaching, and every time someone in the healing circle would share something vulnerable she would interrupt them with some crude or hostile remark.
Lottie was reaching the end of her rope, you could sense it. The looks she gave the woman, daggers sharpening her gaze, was tell enough. But you knew her, knew that despite how much she wanted to, she would never act on the urges unless she was provoked.
At last, it was Danaā€™s turn in the healing circle.
ā€œDana,ā€ Lottie asked, ā€œis there anything you would like to share? Youā€™ve been quite active today in the stories of others.ā€
ā€œSure,ā€ she said, perking up, and you dreaded whatever would come next. ā€œI think this place is a piece of shit, and all of you sitting here listening to this bullshit are fucking stupid.ā€
ā€œIā€™m sorry you feel that way, but you voluntarily signed yourself up for four months here.ā€
Dana stood, gesturing to Lottie as she addressed the rest of the compound. ā€œI donā€™t think all of you fully understand that this bitch is clinically insane! She spent fucking years in Switzerland traumatized from shit she did with her team out in the wilderness! Havenā€™t you heard the theories, what everyoneā€™s saying? They think this bitch fucking ate people!ā€
Dana lunged forward, and before you could stop her she had shoved Lottie, and the whole compound was engulfed in silence.
You reached to stop her but in the speed of a moment Lottie was on top of the woman, slamming her into the wall. A look of terror overcame Danaā€™s features, and though you couldnā€™t hear her exact words you could hear Lottie whispering to her, justifications of her actions, threats you knew she would deliver on if given the opportunity.
You rushed towards the two of them, weaving your way in between them. ā€œLottie,ā€ you hissed, ā€œback up.ā€
ā€œDid you hear-?ā€
ā€œI know what she said, but you have to back up.ā€
After a moment she relented, backing away. Her expression was oddly blank as she watched the woman still against the wall.
Dana moved to rush towards her again, but you stopped her, slamming her back. ā€œGet the fuck out. Weā€™ll have your shit sent to you, but if we ever see you again, weā€™ll have you fucking arrested.ā€
She nodded, slightly stunned, and you let her go.
The whole room was silent, every set of eyes plastered to the three of you.
Calmly, though a bit angrily, you dismissed the meditation class.
Once you were alone, Lottie began to pace, and you allowed yourself your anger.
ā€œLottie, you canā€™t do that shit!ā€ You half-shouted, the whole situation having shocked you. ā€œI heard what she said and it was fucking terrible but all of these people look up to you, theyā€™re paying you to make them as spiritual and leveled as you are.ā€
She only nodded, and while she was silent you could sense her becoming more and more frantic, her breathing becoming erratic.
You moved towards her, saw how she was near tears. You softened, sighing, thinking over everything Dana had said. It wasnā€™t often that Lottie chose to relive or talk about anything that happened out in the wilderness, or about any of her time in Switzerland ā€” to have it all sprung on her at once in such a way, you supposed, she probably handled it better than most would have.
ā€œLottie,ā€ you said softly, ā€œcome here.ā€
She let you pull her into you, her arms looping around you in an embrace, and finally her breathing became more level. Gently you ran your hands up and down her back, trying to comfort her as much as you could, though you knew most of your efforts would be in vain.
ā€œIā€™m sorry,ā€ she whispered, her voice hoarse, and you shook your head.
ā€œItā€™s okay. I get it,ā€ you promised. ā€œBut next time if you go off at someone, at least get in a good punch or two.ā€
She laughed softly, as youā€™d hoped, and you smiled. It was everything to you, just to know you could give her even the tiniest bit of joy when she needed it.
ā€œWe could teach a boxing class and use Dana as the punching bag.ā€
ā€œI would definitely sign up for that,ā€ you agreed, and to see her smile brought you the entirety of the heavens.
ā€œAlsoā€¦ Are you going to ask me about what she said about the, uh, eating people?ā€
ā€œHonestly, I donā€™t want to know.ā€

"I was arrested and sued by the state for politically related and gang-drug-related criminal codes. When Iā€™m facing court, I am not bailed. So, I ended up being arrested and put in prison. During my early days in prison, a prison guard imported a book for another prisoner who hadnā€™t arrived yet. Being a bookworm, I was interested and requested to have the book before the owner or prisoner arrived. It turns out the book was the Bible. Since itā€™s a used book intended for that prisoner who happened to be a pastor, the book has a lot of written notes, highlighted references, and so on. So, I had the chance to learn from his perspective. However, let me be clear here. I didnā€™t read the Bible as a believer. I read it as an atheist.
Since I was a political prisoner and also have been accused of having relations with gang-drug-related criminal activities, I was moved to Insein prison. In Myanmar, there is no option for us to register as an atheist or a non-religious person for state-related documents. I had to register as a Christian so I could import the Bible into the prison. During my early days in Insein prison, Iā€™m free except for my court date. Officially, I am not yet supposed to be a forced labor prisoner since Iā€™m still facing court and not yet sentenced. However, since my family never had the chance to visit me in my prison days and I didnā€™t have financial aid to pay the prison guards and the gangs within the prison, I was treated as a forced labor prisoner.
Forced labor includes carrying swage (filth), carrying out farming activities, and so on. In such situations, I noticed a lot of people try to find their purpose in prison life through religious faiths and teachings, given these inhumane treatments against them. Some put their faith in supernatural beings like God, Allah, and so on. However, for me as an atheist, I observed the situations in a rational and realist sense. I noticed that everyone has lost their cause and has become alienated and fragile.
So, I tried to find my comfort zone in prison. Unlike others, rather than hoping to believe in a supernatural being like God or Allah to help me get out of prison, I tried to find ways to organize people in prison. In Insein prison, there were multi-faith worship places and Buddhist pagodas where people could carry out religious activities. So, I tried to organize a Christian community and build a small church inside Insein prison. With the increased number of Christians in our sector and the non-Christians who are interested in our church activities, I became an organizer and managed to climb some ranks within prisoners. Later, I became a prisoner who could delegate people to the tasks they did in prison. Within our church, we managed to set up a communal society where we all shared our own fruits of labor by contributing to farming activities and so on.
Finally, we managed to set up an officially recognized Anglican church, and the authorities accepted us. Even though I was the founder of that Anglican church inside the prison, I was never baptized, and I never had faith in religion. I did it so I could use Christianity as an identity to unite the people for a greater cause of communal conscience. Everyone in my Anglican church from Insein prison thought of me as a devoted Christian.
Later, I was sentenced to 16 years by the court. I was moved to a different sector within the prison. So, I was separated from the church I founded. I was depressed a lot, honestly. With 16 years of prison time, my parents might not be alive by the time I am released. With their socio-economic conditions, they cannot visit me too often as well. Even my partner at that time stopped visiting me after one year of my prison time. So, I was left with nothing. Even if I am released after my 16 years of prison time, I will be in my 40s, and it will be really difficult for me to start a life again outside of prison.
To find refuge for my desperation, I attended short Vipassana meditation seminars in prison. Of course, my former colleagues and friends from the church are so pissed at me for that. I donā€™t really care, honestly. My intention in setting up the church since the beginning was never about religion; it was all about organizing the people to find some greater conscience. Generally, the meditation was helpful to an extent because my mind became calmer while Iā€™m sitting in meditation."
