People often say to me that I wouldn’t personally be affected by a second Donald Trump presidency. After all, I live in a blue city in a blue state, and I’m a married, heterosexual woman who isn’t looking to have any more children. I won’t need medication like mifepristone for a miscarriage (though I do have girls in my family who I assume will someday want to have children), and I don’t personally rely on the federal government for education, because my kids don’t go to public school.

So, again, how would any of this affect me? The most likely answer is that, as a public-facing person, I will continue to be subjected to threats, as many in the mainstream media already are. But attacks on the media could escalate if Trump returns to power, given that he doesn’t hesitate to demonize journalists and call them out before his millions of followers. And given what Trump says on television, he may target American citizens for unfavorable speech.

“I think the bigger problem is the enemy from within,” he told Maria Bartiromo on Fox News on Sunday. “Sick people, radical-left lunatics. And it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by the National Guard, or, if really necessary, by the military.” The “lunatics” in question could be anyone from protesters to opinion columnists—or even mainstream reporters—he doesn’t agree with. Trump has referred to CBS as a “A FAKE NEWS SCAM” whose operations are “totally illegal,” and has similarly suggested that ABC should lose its broadcast license. 

What would it mean to have a president who, in this fashion, targets what little is left of the free press? It’s hard to fathom, but there’s a world where Trump imitates his strongman friends like Vladimir Putin or Viktor Orbán or Kim Jong Un—all of whom participate in jailing or killing journalists in countries with state-regulated media. He’s already taking a page from Joe McCarthy this election cycle in targeting the “enemies within,” something my family is all too familiar with.

Few aspects of Trump’s second-terms plans are more openly authoritarian than his immigration platform. On Friday, Trump traveled to Aurora, a suburb of Denver, Colorado, where he is shopping “Operation Aurora,” a policy he said would target “every illegal migrant criminal network operating on American soil” by use of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. According to the Brennan Center, the law is “a wartime authority that allows the president to detain or deport the natives and citizens of an enemy nation. The law permits the president to target these immigrants without a hearing and based only on their country of birth or citizenship.” The last time the United States used the Alien Enemies Act, it was to put Japanese and Japanese Americans into internment camps during WWII.

What would internment camps actually entail in the modern day? Well, Trump has talked about deporting up to 20 million undocumented immigrants—an operation of staggering scale that he freely admits will be “bloody.” (The Department of Homeland Security, in 2018, estimated there were 11.4 million undocumented immigrants; Pew put the number at roughly 11 million in 2022.) It’s impossible to imagine what deporting that many people would really look like; maybe blue-state governors would be strong enough to prevent deportation camps from being built in states like California and New York. Maybe the camps would only be in red states, or maybe they’d be erected on federal land, like national parks. Then there’s the question of who would run these camps. Trump, for his part, has mused about using the National Guard. Who would stop any of this, you might ask? Would a Republican Congress stop it? Who would be the grown-ups in the room.

At least during the first Trump administration, the courts prevented Trump from doing some of the things he wanted to do, like ending DACA. But this time, Trump would be starting out with a 6-3 conservative-majority Supreme Court, featuring three justices he appointed. Last year, we saw the Trump-friendly high court issue two rulings that will pretty much serve as a blank check to an emboldened Trump: The first ended the Chevron deference, which will curb the power of federal agencies and expedite the death of regulatory expertise. The other decision, which is perhaps more worrying, Trump would have a blank check to do whatever he wants if he says it’s in the service of the presidency, essentially granting him blanket immunity against any crimes he commits in office. As Ninth Circuit judge and Ronald Reagan appointee Stephen S. Trott wrote, it means that Richard Nixon could have “legally ordered his plumbers to burgle the office of Daniel Ellsberg’s psychiatrist.”

Trump is telling us all about his potential plans: internment camps, going after his enemies foreign and domestic, including, presumably, journalists. Will I be one of them? Will he clamp down on the free press? Will he take away the licenses from networks he deems insufficiently supportive of his presidency?

On the campaign trail, Trump has recently posed a question of his own when it comes to voting for him, asking the crowd, “What the hell do you have to lose?” Actually, a lot. While we don’t know precisely what a second Trump term will look like, it’ll surely be chaotic and bleak, and could mark the end of something we certainly don’t want to lose: democracy as we know it.

Calling the apprenticeship under Great Uncle Ford’s wing a blast felt an understatement he needed to fix urgently for nothing could compare to the excitement of gathering knowledge about the weirdness in Gravity Falls. Seriously, the best of the best!

Dipper had lost count of how many pages he’d filled of his journal. Yep, HIS journal! Every time his eyes landed on the silver pine tree glued to the cover of his book, a grin blossomed on his face, and this one was number 1! His mind concocted images of the many journals he would own in the future, maybe a compilation of 7 or 8 because who knows, Gravity Falls wasn’t the only place where supernatural creatures roamed, where you could hear of abnormal events happening once in a while.

Of course, there were some…pieces missing in the big picture to make it perfect. For starters, Soos and Wendy were in different places. With the end of the Mystery Shack, the need for a handyman and a cashier vanished.

Soos took several jobs in the town: waiter, cook, janitor, technician, but things got much more difficult due to Abuelita’s sudden stroke and all the medical bills. Their house had to become a mini hotel for extra money, she began living in an asylum, and Soos was way too busy for a little chitchat what with more jobs and checking on his grandmother.

Wendy, on the other hand, tried to get a job in the town but her father refused saying that she would waste her time hanging out with her friends whose jobs were as fleeting as their reliability; therefore, she had to go to the lumber camp to assist in the family business much to her annoyance. At least, she had a bit more time than Soos to talk or send a message to Dipper.

Grunkle Stan… Honestly, he didn’t know where he was. Remembering his illegal nomadic life before meeting Ford again all those years ago, gave him the idea that he was scamming and changing places. Thankfully, he called more frequently than Soos and Wendy although it always got messy whenever Ford picked up the phone instead of him for they argued or sometimes even yelled at each other… Too close to whatever might be going on back in California for his tastes. But hey, his tales and showmanship hadn’t lost their touch so Grunkle Stan was doing fine… Hopefully…

And Mabel? They barely talked. Dipper was grateful they had parted ways on good terms despite how sad Mabel was that he was going to stay on Gravity Falls. When she ran away with her bag pack that day, he was ready to follow her but decided to give her some space. A few hours later, almost close to the night, he was this close to calling the police to look for her but she returned, calmer and somber.

The talk after that was awkward, but he was relieved nothing bad happened to her. They promised to talk by phone, send letters, video chat, come to visit, and he bid her farewell a few days after their little birthday party.

They should’ve taken into account the messiness of their schedules as Mabel got wrapped up with homework, projects, friends, and teachers asking questions about him, just like Dipper as he focused on Ford’s lessons, taking care of the rift, be vigilant toward Bill’s movements, and filling his journal with more findings in Gravity Falls. Did they work hard to stay in contact though? Yes, obviously!

He’d lie if he said that he missed her less than two years ago. Perhaps he could— “Dipper! Come here, it’s urgent!” Great Uncle Ford shattered the introspection he’d submerged into. He went downstairs not without first picking up his journal and a pen, it always came in handy.

Dipper read and reread countless times but he couldn’t believe it. A parallel Earth born from a single choice that diverged from the mold? Grunkle Stan took the journal as he was told, Ford and his colleague handled the portal, and Bill never bothered them ever again? Of course, he knew the appeal of alternate realities and “what-if” scenarios. It was in the movies, in the sci-fi genre, heck even in fanfiction for Soos sometimes talked to him about it.

Suddenly, a spark of hope ignited within him. “Wait, Great Uncle Ford, that’s it! Maybe Bill did really give up! I mean, he hasn’t done anything in two years, what if he’s looking in another universe for a way to wreak havoc?” Dipper flinched at the implications of that. While they were safe and free from his torment, another dimension would suffer or worse.

“Whether he gave up or not, we’ll never be sure unless we discover the source. If it’s a new case of weirdness, good for us. We’ll catalog it. If Cipher is behind all of this, then we’ll take the best of cautions to get him and destroy him.”

“The Quantum Destabilizer?” Ford nodded. “Will it be powerful enough? I mean, it has been 2 years. We don’t know if he has gotten more powerful in that time.”

“That’s why we must find out what happened and neutralize the source. Bill Cipher’s threat or not, weirdness can only be dealt with by experts. Pack your things, Dipper. We’ll go to Piedmont, California.”

I cannot express the sadness I have over literally everything I hear about Gaza. My grandmother is also type 2 diabetic who's required eye surgery; one of my closest friends is also insulin-dependent diabetic. As someone with a hodgepodge of medical issues, as well, I can only pray for peace and medical accessibility for your poor family. This one is also an insulin scam in the sense that this entire ask their sending has been stolen off a legitimate fundraiser. The quotation marks give it away and they’ve yet to edit those out in the month long time of running this scam across multiple accounts.

It's a one-day old that somehow found and asked several small accounts, as if they had a list of tumblr urls

It's the same pfp as a known scammer, @maddiemartines aka @naomiglowy, so it was likely stolen off a legitimate GoFundMe or Twitter user

EDIT: turns out she is Maddie/Naomi; I had them blocked already, so Tumblr wouldn't show them to me, I guess? (I'm not adding them to the list below, for readability’s sake)

The same message has been used on Tumblr, again and again, by different accounts: salimaabdallah, superbavenuechaos, salimahsblog, even anonymous asks. (superbavenuechaos notably has the same banner picture) "my other account is not getting attention 😢" They are all banned.

The tags are misleading: #fundraiser#charity#gofundme#mutual aid#donations#donation -> it's a PayPal, not a GoFundMe, and PayPal is blocked in Palestine (I have no idea if Fundraiser is a specific website or not?)
