what is an osce?

hii! OSCE stands for Objective Structured Clinical Examination. They’re practical exams that we have to sit in medical school. We’re given between 6 and 15 (usually but it can vary) stations, each with an unknown clinical scenario that you wouldn’t have seen before. this could be something like “a patient has presented to the GP with shortness of breath. Take a full history and find out what’s going on” or “you’re in the ED and called to review a patient with chest pain. Perform a relevant examination and begin management.” There might even be practical skills like taking blood, putting in an NG tube or carrying out basic life support (these are done on dummies though).

Each station has a simulated patient (usually just an actor) and an examiner and you’re given about 8-10 minutes to complete the task and answer any questions the examiner has for you. You get marked on how you perform, what you do, how you treat the patient, if they think your clinical knowledge is good etc. They’re basically a way of testing what you’ve learnt on placements and whether you can be a safe and competent doctor.

before the nautiloid she had a very shady autopsy-adjacent job and afterwards she’s just a person who pokes around in dead bodies (maybe she’s publishing medical research, maybe it’s just for her). in modern AU stuff though i do write her as an actual mortician or a pathologist!

Was studying at a cafe yesterday and this group of ladies who looked maybe in their late 20s came in and I could tell they were all in healthcare bc of their scrubs . And they all sat down and chatted and giggled for like two hours straight and it seemed so fun like they lit up the whole place tbh. I was like omg that’s my future bc med school girl group when

lumping a few days together due to health issues that have really limited me the past week or so :(

tasks completed:

submitted scholarship applications!

set up a few new pages on notion for personal and work use

attended admitted students day for vet school this weekend!

completed 2 loads of laundry (a task i really hate)

daily goals:

30 mins exercise daily (completed on 2 of 4 days)

read something (completed on 3 of 4 days)

add to gratitude journal (4 of 4 days)

15 mindful minutes outdoors (4 of 4 days)

tasks for tomorrow / rest of the week:

work on my etsy shop

clean up the apartment

do the dishes

buy new kitty litter and start the transition process (switching to paper litter due to the dust irritating his lungs :/)

New Semester, New Me (already failed lol) + 75 hard challenge

Heyaaaa, I'm backkk! I really missed posting during the break, but here we are again! This semester is gonna be a lot tougher than the first one (at least how I think), but we gotta push it through 🥲

This week has been pretty chill so far and I've only studied Anatomy and Biology (like 3h of studies at most lol)

Soo, as you may know since November I've probably had the most gut-wrenching time of my life (because of a breakup, low self esteem, university and whatnot) , that I've decided that it's time to really get my shit together and stop being a complaining ahh bitch! I made 75 hard challenge for myself and will share posts once a week with progress.

Here are the rules I made:

Study for at least 1h every day

Workout daily (gym, home workouts, runs etc)

Fasting [18/6]

7k steps a day

No energy drinks (THIS ONE THE HARDEST CHAT NGL)

Limit screen time (max 30min of TikTok per day!!)

I don't want to but I NEED to stick to this plan or else I'll fall even deeper in the depressive state I'm in...
