Yesterday I took TOEFL for the 2nd time. It was my first time in a college since my graduation last year!

I was so nervous in the last 2 weeks but I think I got a good score. So far, I only know my scores for Reading (29) and Listening (27). In 2021 I got 23 for Reading and 30 for Listening, with a total of 98. I don't know if I did well in the Speaking, I'm waiting for a medium low score like 17-20, and a good one for writing, something between 22-24. Yeah, I'm not expecting so much of it. That is bcs I put on my mind the I only need 87, so whatever comes more than 87 is a bonus! Let's keep it realistic to not get upset later.

Hello World!

I've been part of the studyblr community for a while but was too shy to start my own blog until now. Here goes nothing :')

My name's Dhiya and I've recently completed 12th grade and am now in a drop year, preparing for NEET UG 2025 🩺 (Medical Entrance Exam)

I'm 18, a Virgo, and currently residing in India :) I'm passionate about medicine and dream of becoming a surgeon [totally not because I used to binge-watch The Good Doctor & House]

Intro

On Monday I'm starting my master's degree in Logic and Computation. I'm hoping it will help me develop my intuition for writing proofs in a way that can transfer to feeling more directed when I work with computer checked proofs in Coq, an interactive theorem prover I have worked with for the past few years. It's the math second major I didn't know I would need and I get to do it in a beautiful new city!

I'm starting this blog to encourage accountability by tracking my progress on work I assign myself to do on a particular day: if I don't do it I need to explain why, even if it's because I binge watched totally stupid videos or something. Here's hoping the internet panopticon will make me feel observed enough to be uncomfortable admitting something like that on a regular basis. Plus @emgoesmed (my real life friend)'s studyblr is really fun to follow so I want to join in! I basically know nothing else about this internet community.

Goals:

My most concrete goal is I want to make a habit of starting problem sets at a particular time each week for each class. During that time I want to attempt each problem the easiest way I can think of and then walk away from the whole thing down so I can mull it over before really making the attempt. So often proving something requires some kind of flash of insight but this way I can try to build a process that makes me more likely to get that insight.

Watch lectures the same day as the class is supposed to be, with textbook open next to me, and recording at least the problem statement for everything discussed.

Actually study for exams.

Have a conversation in German every day.

Eat healthy and exercise for mental and physical health. My apartment is near a large Turkish street market that happens every day, really looking forward to abandoning the weekly Big Shop/meal planning. My apartment is not near the part of the river with all the rowing clubs but I swear I'm going to try and join one!

For me productivity means being able to get the necessary things (which you promised other people you would do, which aren't fun in the moment but will have a payoff for you later) out of the way so you can relax properly. If I'm stressed about something I find I relax anyway but in less fulfilling ways: finding some funny tiktoks that distract me and take the edge off thinking that it will just be a few minutes (it never is) instead of taking a lot of time to cook something or read a book or see a friend because I'm reassured that I'm on track with the necessary things.
