Front and back covers of Mead Composition 100 sheet wide-ruled notebooks, from 1994 (left) and 2025 (right), 20 years apart. Fronts are in the top image, backs are in the lower.
Notable for both their similarities and their differences, the 1994's white front label very much appears to have been cut out by hand and pasted onto a background for photography and printing as would've still been common - if not typical - at the time, whereas the 2025 is naturally and clearly all-digital.
This particularly shows up in the back where the greater flexibility of digital allows for text to be placed on the faux-wrinkle-coat texture via strategic placement of black fill areas behind the otherwise-too-small text. All that text ended up in the large white medallion on the front of the 1994 edition, where legibility would've been assured.
Another small difference is that the tape binding on 1994 is smooth, whereas the 2025 has a distinct fabric texture to it, also visible in the scans when enlarged.

I got my packet of charms and stickers from @potatosonnet !! they are wondrous and joyful! I'm still deciding how best to deploy the charms, but the stickers now live on my Wacom tablet case, to Inspire and Delight:D
The main stickers, dancing up a storm on the cover!

I'm especially happy I could get all the artsy-craftsy team up by the header

Also gleeful about the lineup of the crew I have going even if it only makes Super Sense to me XD
meanwhile Sunjolras watches me judgementally if I see the side that means I've shut things down:

THANK YOU POTATO THEY ARE SO GOOD AND SO HAPPY
(--a note about this case: it is designed to look like a Mead Marble Cover Composition Notebook, which pretty much was THE look of composition books in my school years, though I suspect it is not Universal. It would be weird if it was! but anyway I've been dying to get this one properly covered with Weird Stickers ever since finding it and now I haaaaave:D:D:D)
#les amis#all of them#by others#I'm SUPER happy about getting to sit E and R on the top there#and little Frogtaire is so cute aaah

Zuzu's Bug-ventures: Home Edition!
Found an Oncometopia orbona (broad-headed sharpshooter) the other day. Sadly it was dead, but I had never seen one before! It's a LOT smaller than it looks here. But the pattern reminds me of Mead Composition notebooks.

👻✍️🎨
Asks are here
👻 What is your wildest headcanon?
TRR Cyrus didn't actually accomplish anything and his world is fine. When he gets kicked out of that universe by Colress, he's going to land in front of the commanders he was sure were dead but are actually just hanging out with bubble teas.
✍️ What’s your ideal writing setup?
Mead composition notebook, an assortment of colorful G2 pens to keep stories separated visually, and (ideally) something in the background that I'm supposed to be paying attention to instead.
🎨 If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?
Basically any of the Cyrus/Saturn interactions from NPC, but especially the dream sequence. That or any of the nonsense going on in Asymptote.

They discontinued my favorite notebook. I did not expect to be feeling so salty about it??? All I wanted was the Mead Fivestar paper bound college composition notebook with heavyweight paper, and it had an elastic band to keep it from flopping open in your bag (came in dark teal and black maybe other colors I will never know now). They have the paper bound ones but they don’t have an elastic thingy or subject lines. The ones they have now are not as aesthetically pleasing and have a stupid plastic folder thing on the cover that’s just going to get ripped off (by me) and the paper is thinner so the pen scratches and doesn’t glide *grumble grumble pout*

I've seen the face of vintage 70s Marvel Harry Osborn doped up on psych meds they don't even make any more, I've paid.
Somewhere in the Amazing Spider-Man 150s-160s, post Harry becoming the Green Goblin but pre the other forgotten one who was for a few issues.
No, the real thing is I currently have my writing notes in a clip board with a handle. While it keeps the papers safe there's no folders or real way to organize it aside from where the papers are in the stack. I wouldn't mind carrying around a 3 ring binder (got a cool Trapper Keeper) except that the filler paper I'm using is the cheap Sprawlmart kind because I entered a phase where I needed lots of cheap paper.
And I have a thing where I want all my binder paper to be the same. Some of it goes back to being poor and paper for fucking school being "expensive" and so one time I got wide rule because it's on sale and... Villain origin story.
Did have my notes and shit on thick reinforced paper, the Mead triangle holes, and in one of their binders where the cover wraps behind. Somewhere between that was the stuff I had to purge from my trip to the Mystery Flesh Pit and the edges of the paper being dirty and needing to be recopied things got happening.
If I didn't change story notes so often I'd have it all in a composition book, did try that and it just didn't work, and nice spiral notebooks suddenly got stupid priced.
So while I'm in the current phase of what I'm in a combination of the cheap paper and reusable notebook (was on sale woot) will have to do.
Shall I run out of room in the clip board in my current stage I have a plastic briefcase from my days at my job that will hold more paper.
On the good side I was able to write out a story in a composition book and that was helpful in that stage. I had notes of where I wanted it to go, there had been a few previous drafts, and it was coming at a pleasant pace. It got redrafted but it was all good.

Geekin' Over School Supplies
I am a huge fan of fun and innovative school supplies. I absolutely love to shop for fresh pens, calendars and notebooks right before a highly anticipated year, and this year was by far my favorite!
I went to Target and found the best example of design leadership presented to us by Mead 5 Star. They revolutionized the functionality of the composition notebook by simply releasing the spine of the book from the butt of the paper. This made taking hand written notes easy and breezy.
I also love the elegant design of this notebook! I have seen many composition notebooks over the years with a very standard design, whether in color or not, so the appearance of this one immediately caught my attention. It was simple. It was exquisite. It was my favorite back to school find.

I made a saddle stitch notebook. Think of a mead composition notebook. It was straightforward to do; the hardest part was making the holes since I didn’t have an awl. I used dental floss as thread. I made it pretty thick, so it springs open if there’s isn’t anything to keep it closed, though.

Single topic blog? Who has a single topic blog? I don't have a single topic blog! (extra points if you heard this in the voice of the woman asking who called the pum-ber I didn't call the pum-ber)
If my balance works today I have at least one task I'd like to do, if not I have others, either way still writing.
While the school supplies are cheap get yourself some composition books, the covers don't mind because you're going to carefully take them off and just leave the stitching in the paper. This makes it easier to fold the papers back on themselves and keep going when you're on a roll.
I'm doing that for the first round where the goal is to just get it out. I write out what I can and make notes for what should go somewhere. Like in the current one it has 'listens to ___ album' because I'm not there yet. In the next draft I'll tidy up some places and expand on others. Meanwhile I've turned a few pages of notes in to many pages of text.
I don't know why spiral notebooks are so expensive right now, unless it's a metal thing, and the Mead 3 ring binder that folds back on its self is trying but unless you have their triangle hole paper it doesn't quite work as intended. I took one with me to the Mystery Flesh Pit, I replaced it with a clipboard case with a handle.
And I finally got a new Trapper Keeper, the paint splattered one, because I know I will eventually need another 3 ring binder for something.
I've made fabric sleeves for a couple of old binders that I taped back together. You can do it with fat quarters and I suggest bias tape for the edges.
As for the Miraculous movie I'm watching the subtitled French theater rip that I linked. Would like to know what it is about the Agrest family picture that's so hilarious. I'm up to Adrian at the theater or Marinette about to meet Tiki, whichever comes later.
*personal note the writing on that story ended, ran out of gas, it's the hidden in the attic one, got to be in a certain mood for it, writers know what I mean
