The following writing is a companion piece to "The Lives of Friends", a SMAU collaboration made by me, @legitalicat , @zaldritzosrose and @foxyanon.

Interview under the cut!

Interviewer: Welcome back to our readers. This is Cayn Karstark for Northern Wilds, and our weekly appointment is focused on the well-known Winter Wolves Sanctuary. But before we focus on the conservation work being done, it is important to remember that there has been a recent "changing of the guard" at the sanctuary, and now it is being run by none other than Rickon Stark's eldest son, Cregan, who is here with us today. Welcome, Cregan, and thank you for accepting our invitation.

Cregan Stark: Thank you, Cayn. It’s good to be here. 

CK: Before we start our interview, we would like to know if your father is okay.

CS: Of course, he's much more than fine, sometimes even better than me! (laughs) But it was not the health issues that convinced him to take a step back, but rather the desire to retire and focus more on his private life.

CK: We are heartened to know that health was not the reason for Rickon Stark’s retirement, but we must know this: how did you feel at the realisation that you had inherited your father’s “little empire” at such a young age?

CS: Oh well… I was intimidated at first, I won't hide it. Not all young men my age have a father who leaves you with a family business that has stood for generations. It was a huge leap of faith at first, but I overcame my fears and embraced my family's philosophy about the sanctuary, and it warms my heart to see it thriving despite this change.

CK: It was indeed a surprise to us! When the news broke, some of us were sure that your Uncle Bennard would step in for you.

CS: There was a private discussion in our family about who should replace the figure of my father. My uncle's name came up several times in internal meetings, with many for and just as many against. But Rickon Stark has always been a man of family tradition: he inherited the Sanctuary from his father, who inherited it from his father, so it was inevitable that his choice would one day fall on me.

CK: How did your uncle take your father’s choice?

CS: Knowing that old man, he would probably feel left out by his own brother, who chose his own son over him. The Sanctuary had always been a source of tension between them, with my grandfather placing the responsibility on my father's shoulders and thus neglecting his other son. Fortunately, the bad feeling was quickly dispelled and relations relaxed. He's building his own business in Winterfell, near the Wall, hoping to create a small legacy to pass on to his own sons.

CK: It's good to say that everything ended in the best possible way. But we will come back to your private life later, if you allow us, of course, and focus more on your recent activities at the Sanctuary.

CS: Of course, I’m glad to answer all your questions. 

CK: Let's get straight to the point, then. What impressed us the most about your work at the Sanctuary is there’s a continuous work philosophy between your leadership and that of your father. What convinced you not to detach yourself from him completely?

CS: Perhaps the fact that I flanked my father before he handed over control of the Sanctuary to me was the reason I did not change our working philosophy. He was an endless source of inspiration, and he was very serious and meticulous about his work: I still remember him scolding me when I mixed up the resting places of different animals, or when I made trivial mistakes at work! (chuckles, shaking his head) But he only did this because he loved his work and felt the need to preserve the family tradition through me, passing on a passion that I immediately shared with him. He was my shadow during my first days as an official owner, and it was only after he made sure that I had learned all the necessary skills that he completely disappeared from the scene. I feel like I owe something to him, and a total disassociation from our shared vision of the work would have been a misuse of the mission and vision of our work.

CK: One of the first things we noticed in your early leadership is how conservation has become a focus of your own work. Could you please explain your view on this subject?

CS: Well, the thing is, Westeros has areas of great beauty, with a cultural diversity not to be underestimated. The local fauna is highly concentrated there, and it's not surprising to see herds of wild animals roaming undisturbed in the wilderness. What worries me most is how our planet has changed significantly in recent years due to our impact on it, and how this has affected the home of most species. This is how the Winter Wolves Sanctuary works: we emphasise the importance of preserving the fragile wildlife of Westeros, providing them with a safe environment and allowing them to recover from threats such as habitat destruction. Our efforts are focused on the recovery and immediate care of animals in distress until they are deemed healthy enough to be released back into the wild. 

CK: Why is it important for you to rehabilitate animals in the sanctuary? 

CS: I think the importance of rehabilitating animals in sanctuaries is critical to preventing the possible extinction of certain species. As I said, our main goal is to protect the animals' welfare by providing them with all the food and medical care they need until we are sure we have increased their chances of survival in the wild. Every day we receive various calls about animal hoarders throughout Westeros, and we are all increasingly surprised by the number of animals we collect at the Sanctuary: large and small, puppies and adults... Every kind of animal is welcome at the Winter Wolf Sanctuary.

CK: You said before that every kind of animal is welcomed in the sanctuary. But it’s an animal species that you most frequently receive during your retirements? 

CS: Funny enough, wolves are the animals we usually take in, especially since many of the calls come from the wild areas of Winterfell. Generally young pups that lost their mother, but it happened that in the past we welcomed young adults or elder wolves as well. Sadly enough, when we have to take care of our puppies, many are too young to be released alone into their natural habitat, and so they stay with us in the sanctuary. It is the case of Fenrir, the wolf cub a person and I decided to officially adopt.

CS: You can pet him, it doesn’t bite! 

CK: This is surely one of the reasons why you are known as the “Wolf of Winterfell”, then! 

The atmosphere is playful, and the room is filled with the laughter of those present. A couple minutes after, everyone become serious again, and the interview goes on

CK: Thank you for sharing with us your knowledge of the animal world and the philosophy you've adopted for the sanctuary, Cregan. But I would like to reopen a small parenthesis about your family. In all the interviews we have done in the past, your father Rickon has always emphasised how close your family is. Has that changed or remained the same?

CS: Oh, luckily not! Our strong bond is what characterises us as a family. I would like to use a phrase that my father used in all his interviews: "family is like a pack of wolves: we are all united in front of the leader of the pack and no one is ever left behind." This is essentially what happened when my father decided to step in and welcome Sihtric Kjartansson into our family. He and my mother gave him food and shelter and treated him as if he were their second son, and that kind of love continues to this day. We're not blood brothers, but we've always had each other's backs and loved and respected each other as if we were. Sometimes he shows up at the doors of the Sanctuary, tired and still covered in bruises and cuts from his previous fights, but no matter how much I shout at him to go home and rest, he'll just be there waiting for a call for help, and even if I don't show it much, I'm glad for his generosity.

CK: I suppose the same relationship exists with your sisters.

CS: Right. I have two amazing sisters who have supported me from the beginning of this journey. Alisanne is my twin sister and a force of nature, she has a huge heart and supports you with everything she has. Lyanna too, as both myself and Alisanne have been her rock in her first steps into the fashion world, and in return she has supported us by helping out with the bakery and the sanctuary as much as she can. Our greatest weakness is that we are hard workers: we barely manage to find any free time, and now that Fenrir has joined the family, all attention is focused on him. Perhaps Sihtric is the only one saved from this workaholism, since his wife Rhaenerys knows how to discipline him properly. (laughs)

CK: So, outside your family, have you not yet had the chance to make new acquaintances?

CS: As I said, the sanctuary takes up most of my time, so it is difficult for me to get out and meet new people. It's also why the few relationships I've had in the past haven't lasted more than two months. But when I joined a dating app for fun, I found a connection with a girl I've been seeing recently. She's a kind soul with a lot of creativity, and being with her makes me forget all the stress and commitments I have at work. We're in a sort of 'long distance' relationship, but...

Suddenly, Cregan’s phone rings. The interviewer sees him talking a bit about something important related to work, and a few minutes after the call ends.

CS: I have to go, I've just had a call about a new hoarder coming to the sanctuary. Thank you for your time Cayn.

CK: Thank you for your time Cregan Stark and good luck with running the sanctuary.

Time spent on Dargonus after ceremony

We don't really know how much time we spend during the game. After the ceremony, with the start of act 3, there is a briefing where the dialog indicates that the RT has been on Dargonus for quite some time:

If Yrilet is not recruited (or no longer available), we get a meeting with Achilleas instead and there is one dialog option to ask about his wounds - and that it "only" has been "three turns" since the attack (on Dargonus):

Now, that doesn't sound like a turn would be as long as a year as we know it. If we (to make it simple) assume a turn on Dargonus is a week or a month like we know it on Earth we would have between 3 weeks to 3 months for the time from the attack to the briefing. 3 Weeks sounds a little short for me, as after the attack they had to spend at least a few days to prepare the ceremony (honestly even a few days seems rather short) and then having 2 weeks left would not be that much time spent on Dargonus. 3 months sounds closer to the time spent there.

There is a trophy in the throne room (at least during the ceremony) froom a pirate that was active 300 years ago in the Expanse - until Theodora put an end to him, giving us a little more of an idea how old she min. was:

I found in the localization file this entry (no idea where it would be displayed in the game):

"Text": "\"Lady Theodora would sometimes vanish for a long time within her study... quite literally, as they say! The servants couldn't find her, and then she would just reappear at her desk!\""

I think this means the artifact that she tried to use in her study in the prolog and that shattered when she died and which shards resemble the shards from the lenses we find with the cultists.

I know there is speculation that the artifact would allow Theodora to duplicate herself so she can be at two or more positions at the same time because we see cultists coming back/restored after dying with the help of lenses.

But based on this text it looks more to me like it allowed teleportation to a desired place.

Tonight my fellas, we're talking about our canon events, this list may be actualized in the future when I actually buy the game and play again (bc I was playing with PS Plus and recently got cut out from the family budget, thus leading to cancel it)

- Leshy and Heket firstly didn't got along (still they don't), and while our dear frog girl was in her turn of the bar, a very drunk ass moss worm atarted pressing her buttons. One punch lead to another...

Heket lost and fucking died.

(No worries! She revived right after that by Abel's word)

- Calix (soon to talk about his lore) was one of the cult's healers, the best at his job, he would not hesitate to save someone's life, thus making him get eaten by a recently revived guy...

When Abel took care of the threat and revived this dear cat of the cult, what was his first request?

"Leader, KILL ME. DO IT ON THE NIGHT SO THERE ARE NO WITNESSES."

(Currently, Abel's trying to explain Leshy (his lover) how did he fucking died next day of being revived.)

- Love's in the air they said to Abel, but little they expected that something else would float when a guy implied that his former husband Ramses wasn't being loyal to him.

(Fortunately, the poet was good food.)

- What was the most sudden plot twists of the cult? Kallamar has the trait 'Lustful', but surprisingly, no partners match him. Leshy took the place of the cult's sex worker. So, at night, kissing random people and dragging them into more sin, at day, hitting the kitchen to bake delicious food

(Abel wants him to burn one of these days...)

- When Cayn firstly met Shamura, they were slightly creeped oht, but the former bishop fell deeply in love. Little the spider expected, that the new goat had already a lover. In a meticulous plan, they trashed the lover and made their way to them. After marrying successfully and developing feelings, they confessed that... And surprisingly, they weren't freaked out.

(They found it hot.)

It the start of the extensive oc plot that me n a few friends have been making up as we go razor n their friends are in the knights academy

However plot twist razor is a actually a MONSTER!!! can you believe that a monster in the killing monsters 101 place that's crazy

Since razor is a basilisk they can disguise themself so no one can tell they're a monster well no one but the besties

Anyways academy arc doesn't really have much plot it's just the characters getting introduced to each other n hanging out

Sage adopted trace as his friend while cherry adopted razor meanwhile cherry n trace were beefing but dw they make up all 4 of them are friends now yippee 👍talya joins the academy later in the years n joins the friendgroup cause gaydar for monsters

Apocalypse arc is based on the sadly cancelled s5 where the gang are basically trying to not die

Talya gets infected big L just don't get infected loser trace dies but then comes back then dies again skill issue n the other three are just going thru it™️

At the end of the arc razor graduates but not the rest of the friendgroup cause um have you considered being older?? Idiots 🙄

Fish arc is the MAIN main arc we think about that lore needs like 10 pages on it's own

This takes place like a year or 2 after the last arc when the group all graduated a lot of ppl are going missing in the peaceful seaside town of forgetavile n as their first group mission the gang are tasked w figuring out what's going on n fix the issue

Turns out fish ppl have been kidnapping the ppl of forgetavile ����😱 the knights try to do something but thise fishes are smart dealing with them is no easy and oh no this glowy mean fish lady put a curse on cherry wtf

So they're all staying at forgetavile trying to stop more ppl from going missing until they deal with the fish pp also they find this weird fish twink washed up on shore? He's talking a lot of nonsense about a place called totallynotatlantis and this loser named agniss? Idk he looks gay

Maybe some day I'll post all the fish arc drawings i never posted it'll take days to post all of them lol

Last arc in the timeline is cayne/mimic arc this one involves another grouo of ocs

So remember how razor is a basilisk? Ok hear me out what if there was another basilisk n HEAR ME OUT!! What if he was EVIL

This evil basilisk is named cayne explaining the name of the arc n he was actually annoying the other oc group before the gang got intangled with the plot

The other group minus one are still in the academy so when they found this loser trying to commit identity fraud they asked the older moe experienced group to help (they will later regret this decision)

We don't have a clear story w this one it's just cayne going around committing identity fraud all over the room also sage n that fish twink are missing from that arc i bet they're kissing i hate those homosexuals

Top 10 Portrayals of Mrs. Hudson

The last time I did a list related to the “supporting cast” of the Sherlock Holmes universe, I did a Top 10 of my favorite takes on Inspector Lestrade. Today we’ll be going over the other member of the “Baker Street Family,” Mrs. Hudson.

Mrs. Hudson is a character whom I often feel gets overlooked in the grand pattern of Holmes’ cast. She’s not really a major player in most of the original stories, but her presence is a fairly constant one. Like Watson and Lestrade, she essentially acts as an anchor, bringing some semblance of sanity into the wild madness that is Holmes and his world. Some adaptations barely make use of her, but a lot of my favorites play up the relationship between herself and her tenants in some fun ways. Mrs. Hudson is usually shown to be a sort of surrogate mother to Holmes, in more ways than one: she loves him dearly, but she’s also always in a tizzy over his hijinks, and forever put off by his rude behavior. 

The two flip-flop between genuine affection and sniping at one another constantly…but no matter how often they fuss and fume, each genuinely couldn’t imagine being without the other. She is just as valuable a member of the team as Watson, or any member of Scotland Yard, and just as persistent a character. Very few Sherlock Holmes adaptations are without her, even if she’s just there for a few moments. For, as one version of Holmes rightly stated: “Mrs. Hudson leave Baker Street? England would fall.” Picking my favorite versions of Mrs. Hudson was really quite difficult, but I think I managed to arrange and choose some winners from the bunch. With that said, let’s see those winners now! Help yourself to some tea and muffins: these are My Top 10 Favorite Portrayals of Mrs. Hudson!

10. Alison Leggatt, from The Seven Per-Cent Solution.

Honestly, I mostly chose this one because of the actress. It’s hard for me not to enjoy the Queen of Hearts as Mrs. Hudson.

9. Candis Cayne, from Elementary.

An interesting modern interpretation of the character to say the least. In this series, Miss Hudson - rather than Missus - is a slight latecomer to the show, and acts as a maid rather than a landlady. She’s a recurring character throughout the show, but ultimately not as prominent as one might expect after her initial appearance.

8. Mrs. Judson, from The Great Mouse Detective.

Voiced by Diana Chesney. While her role is very small, her brief scenes have always been quite memorable to me, and I felt this list wouldn’t be complete without this rodent reimagining.

7. Geraldine James, from the Guy Ritchie Films.

By far the most snarly relationship between a Holmes and Hudson of practically any version. I wish there had been some more genuine warmth between the two, but I will say that their banter is quite amusing.

6. Pat Keen, from Without a Clue.

In this film, Watson and Holmes effectively swap out, as it’s revealed the doctor is the real mastermind with Sherlock as his bungling sidekick. Mrs. Hudson is one of the few people who knows the truth, which is only fitting.

5. Mary Gordon, from the FOX/Universal Films.

While Mary Gordon didn’t really DO much throughout these movies - nor in the radio show with Basil Rathbone & Nigel Bruce, where she was also a constant presence - something about her was just so memorable. She brought a sort of befuddled warmth to her scenes, and it’s worth noting that she was the only character, aside from the original Dynamic Duo, to appear in every single movie to some degree or another.

4. The Version from Moriarty the Patriot.

Much like Elementary, this version of the character is called “Miss” Hudson, and is depicted as much younger than usual. She’s something of a comic relief figure, but she still manages to work as an excellent take on the character. I love the sort of big sister/little brother relationship she has with Sherlock, and while, again, she rarely actually DOES much, she’s always fun to see in action.

3. Rina Zelyonaya, from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson.

It was hard to choose between my top three takes on Mrs. Hudson, as all of them are pretty close together, and could all be considered arguably the definitive takes on the character, in my opinion. In this Russian series, Zelyonaya’s Hudson is a wonderfully experienced old lady. You get the feeling she’s known Holmes since he was still VERY young, and knows him better than anybody, even Dr. Watson.

2. Rosalie Williams, from the Granada Series.

This is one of the most “motherly” versions of Mrs. Hudson, in my opinion, in the way she interacts with both Holmes and the good doctor. I love her moments of temper and authority, but I also love her moments of genuine concern and care when they come out. I think one of my favorite parts of the show was all her scenes in “The Empty House,” and how excitedly she gets involved once she realizes Sherlock is still alive.

1. Una Stubbs, from Sherlock.

Much like Rosalie Williams, this version of Mrs. Hudson has one of the most overtly motherly demeanors of any version. I love how she’s so sweet and bubbly on the outset, but then as the show goes on you realize there is a real steel underneath that seemingly frail surface. Like most of the other major cast members, it was neat to see her go from the modern world to period Victoriana in “The Abominable Bride,” and I was very sad to learn of her recent passing. A marvelous depiction overall.

Lust Rite & Asexuality in the cult!

Ah yes, the Lust Rite, a very important tradition to our dear cult! Whichever is your orientation, your sexual preference and desire, in this cult no one judges in this day of indulging into the most carnal desires!

Despite of this being as equally important as the Hundred Days Celebration, there are some firm exceptions to people in the cult that;

A) Feel uncomfortable with exploring sexuality in a very open way

B) Have a trauma and don't have any sexual interest (like Calix)

C) Enjoy having a less explicit intimacy / not sexual intimacy

These all have something in common: No need to have sex, no sex in general

These, as well, are all catalogued as asexuality, a label for people who doesn't feels need to have sex!

First, let us delve into c) point!

Likely to be mentioned in the future on the entries of my followers, Shamura (Narinder's silibing), and Cayn (my half-blooded silibing [what the fuck I thought they were my other me and I tried to date them.] of another world), for example, have a respectively agreed on admitting they do not feel any necessity of sexual attraction to be intimate.

Since lust I've firmly believed that it's not only a carnal desire focused to sex, but mostly to the desire of an intimacy, they agreed to me to write down their thoughts:

Honestly, I'm not gonna even say it myself, I'll just leave his opinion.

As someone who was not only sexually assault for my job as sex worker, but harrassed & raped, back in Anura, I find myself really in discomfort of the Lust Rite myself. "B-But why to mention your trauma s-so openly", I find no shame on saying like it is, because it could've happen and it can happen to anyone. And I will not tolerate that people is ignorant and morally blind to this. Taking back the theme, It's something that I find disgusting, as me being demisexual and slightly repulsed by the idea of having sex out in where everyone sees. It's not that I have any problem, no, I respect and will always respect thr way everyone shows their sexuality, but for me... It's gross. What it comes to concern, Leshy and me stay in the tent, not really doing anything. Just being naked around and sharing ocassional touches or kisses but nothing else.

Solaris was bawling his eyes out, as the smaller shadow formed into an open space, with several graves in front of the Charizard. The larger shadow walked around behind one specific grave, staring at Solaris.

"The members of the guild you ran all died during the Bastille riots... Something you could have prevented..." The shadow grew bigger as it talked.

"No, I... I did the right thing... I couldn't have saved them... I was busy fighting..." Solaris squeaked.

"You can tell yourself that all you want... But you know you think differently... No matter the mask you put up, and no matter how deep you bury your feelings..." The shadow then shifted the scene to the next grave over, this one having Zane's name written on it. "Then there's Zane... Poor Zane... Who left you before they could even tell you what was happening. I wonder... Did they not have time... Or did they secretly hate you, and refuse to tell you...?"

"Shut up!" Solaris shouted. "Zane loved me! Of course they would have told me...!" The Charizard's voice faltered ever so slightly. Something that the shadow caught on to.

"You can't even say it with confidence... Then... There's this one..." The scene shifted again, coming to a grave that had Solaris' dad's name on it. "The one death that still haunts you..."

Solaris looked up at the shadow, and for the first time could clearly make out its face. It had a slit on its neck, and blood running down his body. "Dad..."

The shadow chuckled ominously, a second equally large shadow forming into Solaris' mother. "I think it's time for Zane to have a word with you..."

"What!?" Solaris could barely get a sentence out, before the smaller shadow appeared, and grabbed Solaris by the neck and began to choke him.

"What are we, Solaris? Are we the one bright speck you cling to in your pathetic life? Or are we your guilt? The guilt you feel because you feel responsible for our deaths, and that you can't let go of us and move on?" The shadow of Zane slammed Solaris to the ground. "What are we? Why are you fighting against us?!"

The Charizard looked at the shadows with tears in his eyes, and a freaked out expression. He grunted, trying to speak his answer, before the shadow slammed him again, and several smaller voices began to speak into Solaris' head. "ANSWER ME!"

"Because the three of you are the most important things in my life!"

Solaris finally shouted. The shadow let go of the Charizard's neck, and stepped back. Solaris took a moment to catch his breath, tears running down his face before continuing. "Mom... I should have stopped you... I'm so sorry I didn't... And I'm so sorry for making you feel worse..."

He paused once again, and looked at his dad. "Dad... I should have been more careful... I should have tried to de-escalate the situation... Instead of throwing something at Sirius... And... I should have told you about Mom when it happened... I was... I was scared..."

Finally, Solaris turned to Zane. "And Zane... You were my one bright spot... My light through the darkness... You were... Everything to me. You... You all are." Solaris wiped his eyes, though fresh tears stained his cheeks.

"If I let you all go... I'll be in the dark again... I'll be smaller than nothing... And I won't have anything left..."

The shadows assimilated back into one, and the darkness disappeared from around Solaris. The Charizard looked up at the forms, which were disappearing. A voice boomed from above him.

"Solaris... You can never truly be rid of us... We will always be a part of your psyche... However, you've made a tremendous step in your grieving... As long as you continue to have the willpower, you can move on... While also keeping us in your thoughts... And in your heart."

Solaris looked down. "It's... It's hard... It feels impossible..."

"As do most things that are thrown at you. You've faced down bigger threats... Bigger impossibilities... But you always came through. Do you know why...?"

Solaris thought for a moment, before his eyes lit up. "My friends... My family..."

"Rely on them. They can help you move past this rut." The voice disappeared, and Solaris was left in the white void, all alone.

"Rely on them..." He said over and over again. He sat in silence for some time, just repeating the word.

"...solaris..."

The Charizard looked around. "Hello? Who's there...?"

"...Solaris..."

The voice grew louder and louder. He eventually recognized the voice, and he tilted his head. "Zappa?"

"Solaris!"
