KNOWLEDGE TYME! For those that don't know the story about this song, Johnny Cash's rendition of Hurt by Nine Inch Nails is considered his best work. The song was released in 2002, but the music video released a year later, and contained photos and memories of his wife, June Carter Cash. June would die in May of the same year, followed by Johnny later in September.

The music video was nominated for Best Cinematography at the MTV Music Video Awards. Justin Timberlake, who had won the award for Best Male Video that year, stated that the award should have gone to Johnny Cash.

Diving further, the writer of the song, Trent Reznor, later stated in an interview that he was initially skeptical of how the cover would have performed, but grew to absolutely love it. And even though the song was released first by Nine Inch Nails nearly a decade prior, Reznor stated during that interview "that song isn't mine anymore".
