the rough childhood trio with their childhood pets. (each of these gets a couple sentences of variably cryptic context-- all up for interpretation, of course. in my head these are all bittersweet ^^)

i-chaya wasn't supposed to be at school, technically, but amanda had a talk with the teachers, and they concluded that it was logical to allow i-chaya to continue to accompany spock to school, when his performance showed such marked improvement when she was around.

sometimes, during intervals between lessons, which were always timed precisely for optimal development of social skills, spock would sit cross-legged in a corner of the schoolyard, and i-chaya would sink down onto the red sand beside him and nudge at his cheek with her damp nose, and spock would reach up into her coarse, thick coat and press his forehead into the safety of her fur until the stinging remarks of the other children would melt and fall away in the harsh vulcan sun.

"he's up there in the stars, jamie. whenever you feel like you're on your own, just look up at the night sky and count the stars. he would've been so proud of you."

james tiberius kirk read, once, that pigs were unable to look up at the sky. from then on, he made sure to prop all of the pigs on the farm up every so often, so that they could look at the stars with him. for his birthday, his mother knit him two matching sweaters with stars on the chest-- one for him, and the other for wilbur (the grandpiglet of the sow she tripped over a decade ago).

bones was raised, essentially, by the large, calico barncat who lived on the mccoys' farm. she had not been named, and she wouldn't let anyone else touch her-- only bones.

when he was a baby, she curled up beside him in his crib with her tail around his ankle to stop him from crawling out and hurting himself.

when he got older, on difficult days, she would grab him by the sock and drag him to the old rocking chair in the attic and curl up on his lap and bite at his fingers until he could bring himself to pet her, and then she would purr and purr as he stroked through her warm, soft fur and rocked himself better in the big rocking chair. if anyone tried to drag bones away, she would hiss and yowl and bat vehemently at the intruding hands until he could be left alone.

I have an ability to hold both canon and a headcanon in my head and believe both wholeheartedly.

Do I appreciate 765874 - Unification? I do. I mean my whole day is both blessed and ruined (cause I’m crying). Am I happy it’s a part of a canon? Absolutely.

Do I still hold a belief that the whole Nexus drama happened in some alternative timeline, and “prime” Spock & Kirk after retirement lived happily together in a house on the tropical planet near the beach with McCoy often visiting them? Fully.

you guys just dont even. understand Him. hes NOT super overly sweet and affectionate with his partner(s), although he does love them very much. he reluctantly accepts a kiss on the cheek from jim, melodramatically rolling his eyes and kicking him out of the sickbay. but he looks back at jim as he walks away, a soft smile on his face and an added pep in his step for the rest of his shift.

he grumbles about "ridiculous vulcan voodoo" and makes a face as spock offers him an ozh'esta. but when their fingers touch, spock can feel the overwhelming affection underneath his icy exterior; his armor protecting him from getting hurt again.

the armor isn't going to fall off the moment he falls in love. it may not ever fall off; not all the way, at least. spock and jim aren't there to "fix" him, they're there to love him as he is. he doesn't have to outwardly express his love to show that he loves. he loves and cares deeply, all he ever wants is for everyone around him to be safe and to feel better.

I just love headcannon for the fact that McCoy's friends are worried about his thinness and irregular schedule. While he is trying to make up an adequate number of shifts for the entire crew, he apparently considers himself immune to these rules

It's been a while since I've been here. I'm coming back with a sketch that has been gathering dust in my sketchbook for some time

Here, have some unedited, stream-of-consciousness ideas about transmasc Triumvirate for Pride Month 🏳️‍⚧️

McCoy came out the youngest - when he was around 7 or 8, and started HRT young enough that top surgery wasn't necessary for him, any chest growth was negligible. Apart from keeping up with his hormonal implants, being trans hasn't much affected him; his family are modern, 23rd Century people goddamnit, they ain't gonna throw a fuss at their tween naming himself Leonard if that's what makes him happy.

He never bothered with bottom surgery, and he donated his eggs when he and Jocelyn went through IVF. Jocelyn carried Joanna, but McCoy wouldn't have been fully opposed to being a seahorse dad if it was more convenient for them at the time - needless to say, he's still relieved when it's not something he needed to go through to be a father.

All the same, he is very reticent of sharing the fact that he's transgender. It don't matter one bit to nobody but those who share his bed, thank you very much.

Kirk came out as a teenager, sometime around the age of 16. Overcoming the trauma of Kodos and Tarsus IV was something he had to make some sort of peace with first before he realised the discomfort he felt in his body and the perception of himself by other people wasn't any sort of lingering dysmorphia related to childhood food insecurity. He has what some would consider the stereotypical tomboy-to-butch-to-FtM pipeline. He's always been charming with the ladies, and gaining confidence in his identity as a trans man just made him all the more magnetic.

He had top surgery prior to joining Starfleet, and bottom surgery prior to his first posting on a starship.

He's more open and causal about his transition than McCoy is; if other people happen to bring it up, he'll proudly talk your ear off about his gender journey, but he wouldn't disclose at the drop of a hat, either.

Spock came out the latest of the trio. He was an adult, he was already in Starfleet Academy, and it took him a few years after realising his gender identity to start any sort of medical transition. He's on HRT, but hasn't had top surgery or bottom surgery.

Being transgender isn't stigmatised on Vulcan, however Spock was more reluctant to explore his experience with gender incongruity than he would otherwise have been due to being half-Vulcan - either because of internalised shame at deviating from the norm and having these feelings, or as a result of prior medical trauma from being closely studied and monitored as the first human-Vulcan hybrid.

McCoy gives him the what-for the first time he realised Spock binds unsafely during away missions ("And no, sir, it is not 'logical' to purposefully put yourself at risk because you happen to have more durable bones than a human! You still have lungs that gotta breathe, man!")

He is, however unexpected, the most candid of his status as a transgender man.

-Bones is the tall girlfriend in AOS. That woman is big and beautiful and broad shouldered and she can pick up her girlfriends and toss them around as she please.

-Sporty Kirk! Always trying to find crewmembers who are up for a game of volleyball during shore leave.

-Adding onto that, Spock does a lot of yoga, and Kirk joins her when her duties as Captain start to weigh on her too much.

-Bones doing Kirk's hair is also part of AOS McSpirk to me forever. Plus AOS Kirk always has her hair in a ponytail anyway, someone's gotta put it up for her.

-Kirk calls Bones a MILF just cause it pisses her off.

-Spock barely wears makeup, but she's very good at doing it. Kirk asks Spock to do her makeup for her when they don't need to rush to the bridge first thing in the morning.

-Bones is maternal but hypocritical when it comes to her girlfriends. She never gets enough sleep but gets on Spock's ass about not getting enough sleep "even if you are a Vulcan". She drinks too much but chides Kirk when she does the same because "Once you're my age you'll regret forming the habit".

Star Trek TOS/SNW Prompt List

Okay, for now this is what I got, and I'm thinking maybe Ill try to make a list like this every month (???maybe?) to get my brain working. Might do another Garashir one tomorrow or after tomorrow. 🤔

Spirk are beamed down to a planet of giants

Spirk fixing a console problem from outside the Enterprise

Spirk feels their T'hy'la bond across the galaxy from each other. (Conceptualization of the T'hy'la)

Spock murders the giant Omni (The Price of Phoenix) in defense of an injured Jim.

The moment Spock mind melds with Jim (as Janice Lester) and the memories that pass between them.

Professor James T. Kirk, a stack of books with legs, teaching a class with Mitchell and Carol in attendance and Janice Lester as co-professor.

Jim takes a moment to mourn his brother, Sam, and his sister-in-law, Aurelian with his nephew Peter.

Jim watches the Enterprise as it pierces through Tarsus IV's clouds. The crowds that are left stand in shock as well.

Doctor M'Benga and Doctor Chapel marry, post tmp. The Enterprise (TOS/SNW) are in attendance.

La'an mourns her Jim as the timeline switches back into place.

Omni (The Price of Phoenix) abducts Jim, on Vulcan as Spock prepares for Kolinahr hears Jim's distress. (pre-tmp) (yes, I am obsessed with this villain and the books)

Jim with his Tholian child, Bright Eyes, find themselves in Sulu's botanic lab.

Mirror Verse!Spirk meet over Pike's dead body, Uhura and Spock are aligned, and impressed with their new Captain.

The SNW crew ARE turned into bunnies, Jim, Spock, and Uhura have to care for them while they fix the problem

The Enterprise and Farragut crews team up to deal with a situation on a Greek themed planet. (SNW)

Harry Mudd and his double? is once again found doing something criminal and ridiculous. 

McSpirk finds themselves in the Mirror Verse's past, an earth where Khan wins, and successfully conquers the Earth (my headcanon on why the Mirror Verse exists).

Young Jim copes (or doesn't) with his first kills on Tarsus IV, while holding young Kevin Riley.

Uhura is planning a musical, sadly many of the bridge crew decline participation, surprisingly Spock does not! He plays the music. Their show becomes a yearly tradition.

Admiral Kirk sits alone in his home on Earth, and drinks. He thinks about Spock and the Enterprise and wonders how it all went wrong.

Yeoman Rand brings new Earth trends to the Enterprise, Uhura, Chapel, La'an, and Una all try something new.

Yeoman Rand and Captain Kirk fight a group of hostile aliens, their movements are in sync. (Yeoman Rand is Captain Kirk's protégée in this prompt)

Rand, Uhura, and Sulu attempt to talk to the local parliament comprised by what looks like sentient flowers.

Future!Spirk get time displaced and find themselves on the SNW Enterprise, not knowing whether they've stopped at an alternate universe, or the past, they keep quiet on the state of future affairs. Between a living Sam Kirk, and an uninjured Pike, both Jim and Spock are stressed.

Jim hesitates to fire at the dikironium cloud creature, and loses consciousness as the creature sets upon the Farragut.

Jim and Spock, and begrudgingly Droxine, catch the view from Stratos.

The enterprise picks up a child from a dying ship. The child with prophetic powers opens a popup storybook that involves the future of the enterprise, the art style depicts a style like the tos series, and two indistinct figures of a captain and his first officer. Chris Pike watches in trepidation as the story unfolds.

I just finished Voyager like a week or so ago. (I don't remember when exactly. Time is fake.) Plus I've been hit with another bout of writer's block. So I wanna talk about star trek. James T. Kirk

When you said that you have a surprise for him this Valentine's he was nervous but excited.

He had tried to make each Valentine's Day special, one year he even surprised you in bed by wearing a very sexy pair of yellow lingerie.

But this year you were going to surprise him!

He practically runs to your shared quarters and has to hold himself back as he knocks on the doors.

When he walks in and sees you sitting on his bed, wrapped up in a thick red ribbon with a comically large tag that reads: To Kirk

He can't help but chuckle slightly. His face is bright red. This has always been a bit of a fantasy for him.

He's pulling at his collar and stuttering slightly.

"You, you - This is quite a surprise."

He saunters up to you trying to be seductive but you can tell he's just too excited.

He gently pulls at the ribbon wrapped around your torso.

You feel his breath tickle your ear as he leans in and whispers.

"I can't wait to unwrap you."

S'Chn T'Gai Spock

When you said that you have a surprise for him this Valentine's he was skeptical.

He had tried to understand the meaning of the holiday but to show such affection openly was not what Vulcans did. So he often would give you a bouquet of flowers and read some kind of sentimental poetry when you were alone.

However, at the end of his shift, he is curious about what you have planned.

He walks a few paces faster than normal back to your shared quarters. He even skips a little.

When he walks in and sees you sitting on his bed. His face flushes the same shade of green as the ribbon you're wrapped in.

He tries to keep his composure but you look so tempting to him. He isn't used to this sudden feeling.

He gasps slightly as you slyly shift your position to a more sultry pose.

"My wife, are you in the stages of your pon farr?"

You giggle and gesture for him to come closer.

He willingly approaches and reaches his hands out to you. He runs his fingers over your exposed skin and silk thread.

He then gently cups your face feeling your want and desire for him. You see him, just briefly, crack a small smile.

"I shall be as gentle as I can, however, I can not guarantee you will go blemished."

Leonard McCoy

When you said that you have a surprise for him this Valentine's he was suspicious.

He had tried to do something nice for Valentine's Day before but it never seemed to go as planned.

He was curious and enjoyed the idea of you surprising him.

He seems to be in a better mood through most of his shift. He expects something quiet like a nice candlelit meal and dancing.

He's completely gobsmacked when he walks into your shared quarters.

He feels like a teenager seeing a (beautiful boy / gorgeous girl / perfect partner) in their bed for the first time.

He clamps his hand over his mouth because it is about to fall on the floor.

"I didn't know you'd go all out, aren't I just the luckiest man alive."

You giggle and puff your chest out tempting him to pull the bow.

He skips the bow and gently cups your face, giving you a strong sweet kiss.

His other hand trails down the ribbon and pulls at it slightly teasing you.

"I feel bad not getting you anything, but I'll show you how much I appreciate you."

Extra Holiday Special:

Quad

They were confused when you said that you had a surprise for them.

You had them scratching their heads all day.

On the turbolift ride down to your shared quarters the three of them talked about what you might have planned.

Kirk seems to be excited while McCoy and Spock are still trying to figure out what you've done.

They find their quarters empty until they hear music coming from the bedroom.

When they see you Kirk and McCoy are completely shocked, while Spock raises an eyebrow.

Kirk quickly goes from shock to excitement.

McCoy is still trying to process what is going on.

And Spock is still holding his cold stone exterior complemented by a bright green blush.

"You naughty (boy, girl, thing)."

"Who gets to unwrap them first?"

"This is quite a display ashal-veh."

The three basically fight over who gets what, it's kind of cute.

Spock leads the charge by approaching you first.

Kirk practically rips his own shirt off.

McCoy is trying to pick a fight with Spock on who gets to go first.

"Best gift I've ever received."

"Next time, he'll want us to do this."

"I am not opposed to such an idea."

I was reading through my Star Trek headcanons note in my notes app and came across this and figured I'd post it here cuz why not

So here's my personal ponderings on how I think AOS mcspirk got together, or well, more like how they realized their feelings for each other

Ok so I'm trying to figure you who fell in love first in this whole mcspirk dynamic

So obviously, Kirk and McCoy was a thing before Spock came along, but who made the first move? Or, did they even get together before they met Spock? Like, they were both definitely in love, but all three of these bastards are stubborn as hell so I'm not sure if they would have even confessed to eachother before the events of the first movie

Ok, but who fell first? That's the question we're asking

So in this, McCoy is still demiromantic (editors note; I headcanon TOS McCoy as demiromantic, but usually I headcanon AOS mccoy as some form of asexual, so that's why I make special note of it here) so my first thought was that Kirk fell first, but we cant forget that that poor boy's been through hell and back already, so he's real slow to trust people

That doesn't necessarily mean that he didn't fall first, it might have just taken him longer to realize he had, honestly he might have not even realized it till McCoy confessed (if I decide to have McCoy confess first)

For McCoy, it was definitely the "A fell first, but B fell harder" situation, like im imagining that McCoy and Kirk were just eating lunch or something, or hell maybe he was just minding his own business at work and then just all the sudden he's hit with "OH FUCK IM IN LOVE WITH HIM" and then he realized that yep, he's very deeply in love with Kirk. And ofc he's fucking terrified of that after the shit with his ex wife, so he just goes "repress feelings: activated" bc he knows Kirk does like to have casual sex and all that, and he probably also knows that committed relationships also scare the shit out of Kirk. McCoy probably thinks there's no way that kirks even attracted to him either bc he's a dingus

And on the flipside, kirk knows that McCoy is demiromantic and has somehow convinced himself that they aren't close enough for McCoy to even consider them anything more then casual friends (keep in mind that this is all academy era) and not to mention Kirk is polyamorous and he's only ever seen or heard about McCoy being in monogamous relationships so he thinks that even if there was a chance, that it still wouldn't work

Little does he know that McCoy is also polyamorous, just not actively practicing bc he's also scared of commitment

Honestly I don't think they managed to figure their shit out till Spock came along and was like "I want to date both of u" and then McCoy and Kirk are like "I love that idea but Jim/Bones would never be attracted to me :(" and then Spocks like "ur a dumbass he's also in love with u" and then there's some emotional confession between the two and then they're all happy

Anywho! I've been contemplating writing some AOS McKirk turned mcspirk but I can't think of a good enough story to actually get the motivation so this is me getting that energy out, but honestly who knows this might just make me actually go and write it 🤷🏻‍♂️

🕯️ ⇢ on a scale from 1 to 10, how much do you enjoy editing? why is that? ooooooo, you know, when I can get into it, I really enjoy editing my own works. I think when I don't have a firm deadline for a fic, I have a lot of fun doing it. But when I can feel the deadline approaching, editing stops being as fun for me. I'll take the easy way out instead of making big edits that, while difficult and time-consuming, will ultimately improve the story I'm trying to tell.

That said, I love beta reading and editing stuff for friends. Betaing and helping someone's fic evolve into its final form is one of my favorite parts about being in fandom and interacting with other fic writers. So overall, I think on a scale of 1-10 it's a 7 for me.

i think bones was my first ever comfort character and it’s because he’s so real . like , he’s just not afraid to call people stupid and i respect him for that . i also like that he’s inherently someone who loves very deeply and wants to help people in every single way he can but it’s also very subtle … like he cares SO MUCH but it’s not in an over - the - top dramatic “ i would die for you “ way ( which he would , undoubtedly ) but more of a “ i love you and cherish you but you’re fucking stupid “ and that’s always been like ,, funny and sweet to me and shows that caring for someone isn’t always being nice to them sometimes you have to be a little cunty .

oh god yes, everyone's always welcome to do anything with my ramblings, and you especially so - I love your art and your art style so so so much!!! And re: my fic - the only reason I locked my ao3 fic is because of the issues of AI training on anything open - I actually hate having my stuff locked down, and would like to unlock it some point in the future, tbh (and I know ao3 has instituted anti-ai crawling measures, but the idea of it still bothers me, which is why I haven't unlocked yet), which is my long-winded way of saying: absolutely, I always give blanket permission for anything non-AI re: my fic!

he’s literally, in the kir-spones, whatever the throuple’s called, in the video, like I see Kirk and the head grab, obvi, but Spock’s two finger touching like creeps further and further down his sleeve to his wrist. starting on one arm, centimeters away from the hem, resting there, restrained, mindful of the touch telepathy. the first time it’s not the hand holding the scanner I think? and then Bones starts coughing and Spock is grabbing all over the place with his two fingers, this time there is the excuse that he’s holding the scanner, but even so, down the arm, down the wrist. He doesn’t need to manually take Bones’s pulse I bet on account of the future-scanner. Like he’s actually, MORE intimately touchy than head- grab Kirk. Like he’s two finger kissing bones and he’s a hard sneeze away from a mind meld with his hand placement. Like I’m a career Spirk girlie but I see why the Spones gang goes wild. I see the throuple.

wow thank YEW for saying so. spones IS real and we have the proof right here on our screens. i literally don't even think i was a bones understander until this episode...everyone says season 3 bad but how bad can it be when it contains not one but TWO bones thesis episodes is my question.

also I KNOWWW spock is literally alllll over him...he actually touches bones a lot, just as much as or maybe more than he touches kirk - this is not the sort of speculation i usually like to engage in but sometimes i kinda wonder if it's because even though SPOCK is not generally tactile perhaps leonard nimoy WAS, and he was uh probably better friends with deforest kelley than william shatner? idk. anyway, it literally is somehow even more intimate than the headgrab, idk how these men did that.

btw, that's spock's Concerned face...if you've watched enough tos you can tell his microexpressions apart (catherine do NOT✋ interact YES YOU CAN!!!) and his brows being lower like that and his eyes narrowed ever so slightly is his Very Worried face, which he also makes in the episode where bones gets diagnosed with terminal space cancer or whatever it was AND in the one where kirk has the panic attack in the elevator because of those fucked up little kids. re a hard sneeze away from a mind meld this ofc isn't canonical but i do FULLY THINK he was melding w bones to "make him comfortable." like, vulcans can canonically block out pain like that so why not help his friend, who is dying. hence bones's comment about a good bedside manner. i didn't make the headcanon up but i fully incorporated it into my beliefs system after reading it...like what else could possibly be going on...

also sorry u didn't ask but i totally understand about being a career spirk girlie bc that was me too. lately tho i have found myself prioritizing the throuple (mcspirk lol but kir-spones was good too) above any of the individual ships. how can you leave kirk out of spones. how can you leave bones out of spirk. or spock out of mckirk which admittedly has much less basis in tos than aos. i did not even Get bones until season 3 of tos which is bonkers because again everyone says season 3 sucks! i was like whats the point of him. now ik how important he is and when i go back to earlier eps i literally see him. a very wild emotional journey but def one i wish everyone could go on. anyway watch the empath regardless it's the episode ever.

OH BABY YOU BET I DO. These are gonna be my headcanons for my TOS genderbent mckirk specifically, but I will be posting my aos genderbend designs at some point too >:)

-Jim is a Jane to me, a buddy of mine calls fem Bones Lenora and I think that's probably what will stick for me too. I like her name being able to shorten to "Len" like Leonard can. I feel like when Jane isn't calling her "Bones" she's calling her Len or Lenny.

-I do not know why, but in my brain, my fem mckirk girlies have a slight height difference, nothing major, but fem Bones is a couple inches shorter than Kirk in my world. I'd probably pin them as 5'10" and 5'8 (Spock is also still 6'0" and she wears heels to some formal events, sorry I don't make the rules.)

-Jane makes Bones tie her hair up for her when she wants to wear a ponytail. Love the idea of Bones irritatedly tying Jane's hair up in the transporter room before they beam down while Jane gives orders to the crew. Like not even paying attention to Bones doing her hair for her cause it's such a normal occurrence at this point.

-Jane hates the process of doing her own makeup but likes putting Bones' eyeshadow on for her.

-Jane wears little pearl stud earrings!!!

-Bone's prefers masculine clothing, she wears the pants/shirt uniform and typically leans towards suits for formal occasions

-That being said- she sometimes asks Jane to get her ready for a formal event knowing that she will use the opportunity to put Bones in a dress, and Bones likes the way Jane and Spock look at her the rare times she dresses traditionally feminine.

These are the ones that I actively think about most!! I think about/draw a LOT of formal wear mcspirk, genderbent or otherwise. I just like to draw them in pretty clothes,,, my little barbie dolls,,,,,
