Dating Matt Taylor Headcanons

He's super shy, but behind closed doors or around close friends he can be super affectionate and massive shows of PDA

Tries to act kinda macho but quickly realizes he doesn't have to, so he tones it way down

You are the only person allowed to wear his jacket. If one of the other girls are cold? Absolutely not. One of the other guys has to give up their coat.

But if you look even the slightest bit cold he's shrugging it off his shoulders and tucking it around you before you ever say a word

He loves spoiling you, but in a nonchalant way

Such as

"Oh by the way, I saw this at the store and remembered you said something about wanting it." as he puts down a dress (or whatever you want) you didn't buy because it was so beyond expensive

"Matt, baby, you have to take this back this is too much!"

Or paying before you even have a chance to reach for your wallet

Piggyback rides are one of his favorite subtle ways too

"We've been walking for a couple blocks, and I know those shoes have to be hurting you, want to hitch a ride for a bit?"

One of his greatest talents is the way he can calm you down

Depending on what's going on with you he can either make you laugh or tell you how he feels

If you're down about yourself?

He tells you exactly how beautiful you are, how much he adores everything about you and how much he admires you

He even tells you he thinks he doesn't deserve you

His tension breaking skills are legendary

He's made you laugh during slightly inappropriate situations, but it helped you in the moment

Loves when you come to his games, like his own little private cheerleader

The first time you stole his jersey he melted into a little Matt puddle on the floor

It became his lockscreen for his phone within minutes

Wakes up before you everytime just out of habit, but won't move a muscle until you wake up. Even if he has to pee or something he'll wait.

No matter how chill he portrays himself as, he can be a cheesy lil guy

Like letting you call him Matty, he doesn't care if he gets made fun of by his friends, he loves hearing you say it

However in the mornings, when you wake up, bedhead and all, it's Sunshine because it's funny to him

Making sure you're comfortable in a situation is very very important to him

He understands, he's been stuck in the circle of peer pressure a few times, so even if he won't stand up for himself, he'll stand up for you in a heartbeat

You're both at one of Josh's parties and need a break? He'll take you out on a walk until you're feeling better or you'll just both head to one of the rooms and chill out

Someone comes up with a stupid idea that you don't want to do and they're pressuring you?

He's putting you behind him and making it very clear to the other to leave you alone

However, if that upsets you, he'll just leave with you. You come first to him. Doesn't matter if he's having fun.

In the game, they said he wasn't "the sharpest tool in the shed", so he loves studying with you, you explain things in a way he can understand better and it really helps him

Anytime he uses some sort of cheesy pick up line on you, that's the smile that comes out, and his cheeks darken a bit

I fully believe this man is a big spoon all the way, never the little spoon

However, his other favorite form of cuddling his laying between your legs with his head on your chest, especially when he's tired from practice or college classes

Always has his arm around your shoulders/waist or holds your hand

It grounds him, and he just likes being close to you

Also very big on chivalry

He'll get out of the car and basically dive over the hood so he can open the door for you

Another big thing is your health oddly enough

Would definitely get one of those giant water bottles that encourages you to drink your water

And keeps foods/snacks he knows you like in his kitchen

"I'm pretty hungry, I could definitely go for some (insert favorite food) right now, how about you baby?"

"Matty I know your tricks...but yea...I could eat."

He just wants you to be healthy <3

Body language is something he's always watching too, even if you're acting fine he'll know how you're actually feeling just based on that and act accordingly

He tries his hardest to do date night at least once a week but sometimes it's just you two ordering take out and chilling on the couch

Please reassure him 🥺 he tries to hide it but he gets a lil insecure that he's not being a good partner, especially when he gets busy and can't be around all the time

The first time he said he loved you, it came out of nowhere. You came to one of his games with his friends to cheer him on

When the game was won, you ran into his arms like he had just won the superbowl

As he held you up, still covered in sweat and still in his uniform, that cheeky smile appeared under his helmet guard

mattheo raised his eyebrows when you opened the door of your dorm and were all dolled up. "are we going somewhere?" he asked surprised, but you shook your head.

"you can sit there!" you had so much energy, you were practically busting through the roof. "and we need to break up for a second, yeah?"

"what?" he laughed surprised, but you just nodded your head and he sighed. "sure, okay, whatever you say"

he sat down and watched as you took out the newest taylor swift album (red) he had gotten you for your birthday. "i should've known this had something to do with her" mattheo sighed before he pu a hand to his chin, thinking "maybe we shouldn't listen to that music anymore"

"excuse me? we?" you laughed sarcastically "we're not together as if now, remember?"

"yeah, yeah" mattheo muttered rolling his eyes. "do whatever you have to so we can make out"

you rolled your eyes as the smirk on his face, before you started the song and loudly started to sing along.

i remember when we broke up the first time saying, "this is it, i′ve had enough"

"this is the first time, we broke up, but whatever" mattheo crossed his arms, jokingly.

"i thought you liked role-play" he frowned jokingly and you had to laugh once again.

mattheo watched intently how you raised your hand and formed a telephone with your thumb and little finger, before you spoke along to taylor's voice.

pfft, so he calls me up, and he's like, "i still love you" and I′m like, i'm just, i mean, this is exhausting you know, like we are never getting back together like, ever (no!)

mattheo laughed as you raised your voice and loudly started singing the chorus again. he stood up from his place on your bed and started dancing along with you, as he tried your best to sing along to the unknown lyrics.

when the song was finished, both of you fell down on your bed exhausted, heavily breathing.

"so you now approve of taylor now, yeah?" you muttered and mattheo nodded repeatedly.

"have i ever not approved of her? who got you that cd, love?"

you rolled your eyes, but nodded, approvingly, before you added "now we can get back together"

"but babe" mattheo muttered confused "i thought you said we would never ever ever get back together" he started laughing hysterically at the very bad joke and you slapped his chest before you joined in.

the sound of beer or wine glasses echo through buck merrill’s bar as people cheers or they hit the table.

you and dallas are on a couch, you’re a bit tipsy, and he’s made it his job to take care of you. he’s a gentleman when he wants to be. his arm is around you, pulling you in and making sure you don’t do anything stupid. you’re laughing and talking with him, it’s pretty late so the atmosphere in this bar is a bit quiet. you’re spending most of your time gazing up at him as he talks, the eye-contact between you two is endless. he’s addicting to you. he has no idea how love-struck you are with him, but everyone else knows.

girls glance over at you two constantly, bitter looks in their eyes. they’re judging you. your short dress, the way dallas is spending so much time with you, how tipsy you are. you come across as a bit of a slut to the naked eye. you’re so obviously not a slut, but maybe it’s worth it for once that they’re giving you these dirty glances and thinking their crude thoughts. why? because dallas has so clearly noticed them. any girl that glances at you gets a very threatening glare from his cold eyes, only to warm up as soon as he looks back at you.

everyone wants him, but they aren’t adorned with the smell of his cigarette smoke on their clothes, they don’t have his arm around them, they don’t have his full attention. you do.

you take another sip of your beer. he’s so badly wanted you to stop, so badly wanting to care for you and make sure you feel good in the morning. but he doesn’t say anything, just letting you make your own decisions.

“you should probably stop starting beef with random girls, dal,” you tease, playfully pushing his shoulder. “their boyfriends are all starin’ at you.”

“it’s fine, [y/n], not like they’re gonna do anything, huh? they’ll thank us for making them realize their broads are in love with me.” he says, a playful and arrogant touch in his words.

“god, you’re so cocky, aren’t you?” you roll your eyes. “it might blow up in your pretty face someday.”

he shrugs. “well ain’t that a shame,” he says sarcastically, looking out at the party and pulling you closer to him as he does so.

your eyes have not once left him this entire party. a smile grazes your lips at his sarcasm and teasing, your eyes full of love, admiration, and pure joy at his constant attention toward you tonight.

“dallas,” you say softly, grabbing his attention. he looks down at you. “you look good tonight.”

he chuckles softly. “thank you, sweetie.” he never calls you pet names, and you always get jealous when he calls other girls that. but now you’re that girl.

more comfortable silence falls after that. he’s waiting for you to say something, he knows you want to say something, by the way your mouth keeps opening and closing. you’re just trying to figure out how to word it.

you’re exploding, you need to tell him about your silly crush. your brain is flooded with alcohol, completely forgetting that one confession could ruin your entire friendship.

you finally speak, words soft and delicate, a bit nervous to tell him. “what if all i need is you, dal?”

his eyebrows shoot up ever so slightly. he stays quiet, a bit surprised by your words. he knew it was coming, he could feel it, but it’s shocking nonetheless.

he’s not saying he’s in love with you, but he’s going to. he’ll say it eventually. the silence is excruciating painful, waiting for him to say something. truthfully, your confession was a bit vague, a bit hypothetical, but he got the message. he knew what you were trying to say.

“say something, dal,” you eventually speak. you’re not one to beg for attention, but suddenly all your proudness has dissolved.

his head turns to you, looking down at you. your heart beats faster. it’s almost like looking in a mirror. the look in his eyes has changed, mirroring the exact look you’ve been giving him all night. one of admiration and warmth. your cheeks have turned flamingo pink, and the sun is rising. have you really been here all night?

half-asleep, he’s taking his time. you know what’s about to happen. but it’s happening oh-so slowly. dallas winston has never hesitated with a kiss, until now.

half-awake, you’re taking a chance. putting your hand on the back of his neck, your lips parting slightly as both of your pretty faces near each other. the neon light is making this feel luxury, like a hollywood movie. the time in the movie where the two finally realize their feelings, and the excruciatingly painful burn when they take a bit too long for their lips to touch. your eyes flutter closed, so do his. his guard is breaking down, he’s pulling you in, and you’re about to pay the price for your confession as your lips touch.

tangerine and aquamarine lights flash under your eyes from the bar, and you think you’re in heaven. almost every single girl in tulsa has kissed dallas, but this is different. he feels different. you’re not just his pretty skirt for the night. you’re his best friend turned crush turned his hopeful lover. he wants you so badly. you two are drunk in love. you’re addicting to him. he’ll never forget this moment. you’re all dressed up, people are looking at you two, and it’s oh so worth it. you’re lovesick and whipped for each other on this couch.

Very interested in what an afterlife until dawn au is. Like it's kinda self explanatory but are they ghosts or what? I've never seen something like that

I’ve only seen one on tumblr but basically they all ghosts and look like how they died (the rest is just headcanons of what it would be like)

Hannah apologizes for killing them all (Josh apologizes for bringing them back on the mountain, both of them are forgiven)

Ashley and Chris juggle each other’s heads

Josh puts Beth’s head on his body so she can move around again

Hannah’s voice is destroyed like she sounds sick and raspy

Jess, Josh, and Matt practice sign language to talk to the others

Sam’s guts are constantly spilling out (Hannah made a little bandage to keep them from falling)

Emily can’t see anything so Matt holds her hand to help her walk (Beth translates what Matt is signing for her)

Beth’s face is decaying so much (so is Hannah but you can’t really tell due to the burns)

Mike can “spit” out fire

For some weird reason all of them are ghosts and they try to find out how to go to heaven (or at peace if you don’t believe in that)

They found out that when their bodies are found, they pass on (Chris passed on first)

Josh apologizes to Hannah and Beth regularly for failing them (both of them always say it’s not his fault)

Josh sometimes places Beth’s head on a stump and they “worship” her (they just bow and chant all hail Beth)

Jess and Emily finally make up!!

Chris tells Josh about his and Ashley’s kiss (yea I’m making their relationship good what about it?)

Sam walks around the mountain daily (people see her ghost the most)

People hear Hannah the most

Matt and Jess can drop their jaw so low (its crazy)

Josh tries his hardest to not be found bc he doesn’t think he “deserves” it

mike - leg bouncing and rubbing his stubble with his thumb. leg bouncing especially in cars and stuff where he cant really do anything but that.

jess - tapping her fingers against surfaces, like tapping beside her while sitting on a couch or a bed

em - i like to believe she used to have a bad habit of biting her nails when she was younger, whether due to anxiety or something else, but she managed to stop doing so by like her last year of middle school.

josh - when he was really little he’d twirl and mess with his hair a lot. it didn’t really do good for it, and it stopped when he was like 10.

chris - chewing on his lip and the inside of his cheek

ashley - skin picking. she used to have mosquito bites that’d like never go away cause she’d keep picking them open, and when she learned to crochet (another personal hc) her mom made her make fingerless gloves for herself. now she just itches at the gloves

matt - he rubs his thumbs against his other fingers a lot. and when people hold his hand(s), he tends to brush their knuckles.

Emily and Matt had left after Emily blamed Matt for losing an expensive bag of hers and she dragged him along with her to go find it, Sam had decided to take a bath after being in the freezing cold.

Josh had sent Chris and Ashley off together to find a spirit board he had laying around somewhere, while Everyone was gone you and josh had a soft silent conversation. Filling time waiting for the others to get back, that's when your conversation was interrupted.

"Alright, Josh! Let's see if you know how to hook up the hot water in your big ol' fancy lodge!" Sam teased as she made her way from the bathroom to you and Josh.

"oh yeah, it's just down in the basement. Y'gotta fire up the boiler," he said as if she knew how to do that, after a moment he realized that she couldn't possibly know how to do that and jumped up saying he'd help, Sam turns to leave to the basement and Josh turns to you, "wait for Chris and Ash Babe, don't start without me." you smile at him and nod your head as he gives you a twink, turning on his heel and following after Sam to help her.

You sat in silence looking around the lodge as you think about the long night ahead of you, your thoughts interrupted by Ashley making her way towards you and sitting on the couch awkwardly, "so..." she started before she was cut off, you both heard a scream.

What was going on?

You rushed to the basement door and pulled it open, but nobody moved. Then Chris pulled down a dark cloak from his head and said "mhm you just got munked!"

Sam didn't find this funny, She yelled at Chris for his low-blow prank before turning to Josh and accusing him of being in on it.

You slightly huffed, Josh didn't do low-blow pranks. His panks were always more intricate and complex than a simple chase in dress-up.

You all made your way to the living room, Josh teasing about how Sam, "totally pissed herself," and Sam huffing in annoyance.

Sam "had enough spooks for one night" and left to finally take that hot bath, while you, Josh, Chris, and Ash set up to use the spirit board.

You and Ash both took turns asking questions and things took a turn quickly...

"S-i-s-t-e-r --"

"Sister..."

"no! No no no we didn't kill them it was just a Prank! We didn't mean-"

"you know what... This isn't real."

"no Josh you said! You said you wanted to use the spirit board!"

"yeah well, m'not sure if you think-- messing! With me is gonna somehow help me deal with my grief but I don't need this right now."

Josh stood from his seat and began to walk away, you followed behind him.

"No, Josh C'mon-"

"no! You guys are full of it!"

And with that, you and Josh made your way down the lodge stairs.

You both stood there holding each other for a moment before Josh said he needed to do something and left you alone.

You wandered back with the two you last spoke to, they seemed to be freaking out about a photo they had found and decided to look for Josh.

"Josh was just with me," you explain

"If you go now we'll catch up to him."

Only you didn't find Josh, you all found ghosts, set up doll houses, and a passed out Sam tied in a chair, and finally you all found a man in a mask.

Chris was the first one to be put under, Ashly panicking tried to stab the killer with scissors she found you gasped as the masked man cursed under his breath, "live and learn!" and with one hit knocked Ashley out cold, and then he slowly turned to you...

You opened your eyes to a gruesome sight, Chris on the verge of tears as he looks back and forth between his long-time crush and best friend.

A distorted voice demanding that Chris make a choice before you put any input Chris pulled the lever,

"No! Chris! I thought we were friends!" Josh calls as Ashley screams and turns away,

"ahh, I see. You have chosen to save Ashley."

You rival Ashley with a Bloodcurdling scream as you watch Joshes body get torn in half, "NO! CHRIS WHY?!" you cry out as the gate opens and Chris rushes to Ashley telling her it's okay and to not look,

"why! Can't I look Chris? tell me he's okay, pleaseeeesss-" she whines out in fear, looking at Joshes hanging body as she lets out a frightened scream and falls into Chris, you cry as you hold onto Joshes cold hand.

"I'm... I'm so sorry..." Chris whimpers you shake your head, "I would've picked Josh if it were me, I would've done the same as you, Chris..."

Just as you all ran out of that shed you were all in you ran into Emily and Matt.

Chris cried out to them about what he had done. What you all had to see.

Matt was the most freaked out and Emily seemed to think it was some prank at first until she saw how scared you all really were.

You all made a plan to split up, Chris and Ashley go back to the lodge and see what they can find and be safe. While Matt and Emily look for the radio in the old tower.

"alright we have a plan, And Y/n?"

-Hannah and Beth once both cut their hair extremely short at the same time to match

-Jess wants to get a back tattoo

-Sam used to be more bubbly/ditsy when she was younger

-Chris isn't very well-versed in religion despite growing up religiously

-Sam used to be better friends with Jess/or thought she was cool and wanted to be better friends with her

-Sam doesn't like Emily's treatment of Matt/doesn't really approve of their relationship

-Matt likes to say "you just got Emily'd" when Emily insults someone (lightheartedly)

-Chris runs sometimes when he really doesn't have to

-Hannah had the tendency to be very competitive with Beth, who was often better at things than she was

-Chris can sometimes have short-term memory

-Sam actually used to be afraid of animals as a kid, but then grew to love them

-Mike used to have longer hair

Ashley: she/her, biromantic asexual | just doesn't feel sexual attraction like everyone else. thought she was weird for it then her friends reassured her once she came out (mike joked around with her a lot because he's like the total opposite)

Chris: he/they, bisexual | this man has definitely experimented with Josh before, you cannot tell me otherwise. also maybe possibly transgender and his friends got together and made him a little care package after his top surgery (he cried. he totally cried.)

Emily: she/her, says she's straight but... mm, idk.... | has drunkenly made out with Jess more than once before but she acts like it never happened (they've all seen it happen at least once)

Jess: she/her, unlabeled because she doesn't need a label to tell her what she is (real) | has also kissed Josh once because he's Just That Kissable (also real) but that's all that happened, he still teases her about it sometimes though

Josh: he/him, pansexual | doesn't rlly have a type, as long as they're nice to him and kinda hot then he might develop a crush. jokingly flirts with everyone and they're all pretty used to it, he and Chris go back and forth for hours sometimes just coming up with the stupidest pet names for each other and everyone else is just like "ohh my god shut up already please shut up.."

Matt: he/him, pansexual | literally does not care if someone uses they/them on him though. also, enjoys giving his friends platonic kisses (mostly Ash on her forehead because they're silly friends) and he also kissed Jess on the forehead as a comforting gesture after the whole incident in the mines. fight me, he's love-shaped

Mike: he/him, bisexual | will jokingly respond to she/her and pretends to be one of the girls when Emily and Jess are gossiping. playfully flirts with everyone in their friend group (like josh) but Matt was tired of it and casually flirted back once (surprising bc he always is like "dude, we both have gfs...") and Mike stuttered so hard he almost choked and then tried to play it cool like nothing happened (everyone saw it happen, michael)

Sam: she/her, also unlabeled | doesn't really like labels that much, just wants to like who she likes. doesn't give a shit about they/them being used on her either. she fr just does not care. definitely used to have a small crush on Josh before everything. she, like Matt, loves giving her friends affection though like a small side hug or bumping shoulders or straight up squishing her cheek against theirs bc it makes them laugh

Hannah: she/her, straight | super loud ally when it comes to pride month, rainbows everywhere. Josh and Beth get embarrassed but they love their sister <3 also she definitely crushed on Matt at one point

Beth: she/they, lesbian | tried to date a guy once, never again. does not understand when Hannah gushes over Mike. may or may not have liked Sam at some point but stayed away because she thought Josh and Sam liked each other and she didn't want to get in the middle of it because she wanted Josh to be happy

Emily x Matt headcanons

(Post until dawn au, Emily being bitten is canon, Matt falling into the mines after trying to save Emily twice canon, Emily giving Matt the flare gun Canon, everyone survives ending Canon.)

They definitely cuddle a lot more now, always having a blanket over themselves and always having a small night light besides their bed. They take turns of who will be the big spoon and who the little spoon and sometimes will just hold each other very close before falling asleep in each other's arms.

Emily has told Matt about the bite and how Mike almost shot her, he holds her hand every time she tells him and he assures her that he will never let anyone hurt her.

Matt also explained to Em about how he and Jessica escaped from the mines, plus, how much damage Hannah had done to Jess and the fact that they almost died twice. This alone was enough for Em to decide to fix her broken relationship with Jess, all while gaining more admiration for Matt since she can clearly see that he's quick-witted and brave enough to have survived.

They start to engage more in the other's hobbies and interests, Like Emily trying to become a cheerleader for Matt's games at school or them finding an empty field and playing soccer/football together. Emily trying to teach him how to edit stuff or how to match clothes because he asked.

They go to their families house more often as well, trying to learn about each other's cultures and trying to get closer with the other's family. Like, Emily can't cook anything except for the foods Matt grew up with ever since Matt's mother taught her, while Matt is a very good cook but he spend some time learning how to cook some of her childhood dishes by himself, after he tasted them at her house.

They are definitely more gentle and supportive with each other than they were before, they go through things such one of them waking up from nightmares and breaking down before the other wakes up too and do whatever they can to help the other.

They both have become light-sleepers because of, both, the events of until dawn AND the breakdowns, so if there's a noise during the night, they'll both wake up and slowly go together to said noise before feeling relieved that it was just the wind or the old wooden floors of their apartment.

They brought an apartment together, did I mention that they brought an apartment together?

They also have a pet hedgehog and a snake together, the snake was Emily's and the hedgehog was Matt's.

They give each other kisses in the mornings.
