Last year I made a version of this, but I fudged 2020 with a game I didn't actually like and it's 2023 now. So here's all my favorite games each year from 1981 to 2023! Now with 2020 being accurate and not a cop-out.

Mini Mac # 68 : Xiaotian
Baby get adopted!
Wukong was unable to find sleep. He was lying in his bed, eyes trailing on the window. The sun was peeking from the somber sky, signing the end of this turbulent night. His lil family was fast asleep at his side. Wukong sighed and looked their way. His husband and two cubs were curled around the baby they found atop of the mountain's highest peak. The lil guy was sleeping soundly, nestled with his two cubs , his chest undulating peacefully.
Wukong intently observed him. His light-colored mask was the same shape as his, perhaps even rounder. His fur was darker than his, somehow reminiscent of Rumble sandalwood colored fur. He looked like a sweet piece of chocolate. Wukong's eyes fell on the side of his head, resting on the baby’s four fuzzy ears. It was rather obvious that somehow this baby was linked to both him and Macaque. It was rather difficult to even conceive how something like this happened.
Both him and his husband never intended for this to happen. They didn't even know how this came to be. As far as he knew, Wukong never did anything that could result in this, nor did Macaque. So how did both their energy somehow combine to create this sweet little thing? Someone else had to be involved in this. Even if he didn't like it, Wukong knew the only ones with enough power to do something like this would be the gods. Wukong wasn't fighting with Heaven, not anymore, but still the idea of them being somewhat involved in this was worrying.
As he was lost in his musing, the lil baby woke up. He yawned widely, eyes veiled by a thin, glossy surface. Wukong looked down at him and briefly smiled.
“Big yawn, huh.” He hummed. The baby perked up at his voice and looked up, he chirped excitedly and reached for him with his tiny hands.
Wukong chuckled, he leaned down so the baby could paw at his face. The lil paws tracing his skin were soft and squishy, he couldn't help but sneak one or two kisses on them, making the cub giggled.
“Hey, bud. You might want to tone it down a bit. They're still sleeping.” Whispered Wukong as he pointed at the tiny monkeys curled around the cub. The lil boy blinked and followed his gaze, he stared in wonder at the tiny monkeys and softly touched them. Slowly, the cub let his chubby fingers trail in Macaque's fur. The tiny warrior purred, still deeply asleep. The lil baby chirped excitedly once he heard the purr, looking up at Wukong with stars in his eyes.
“Heh, he's a cuddler.” Snorted Wukong. The baby scouted closer to Macaque and tentatively touched him, when he saw that Macaque wasn't bothered he grabbed him with his chubby paws and brought him closer, squishing him tight.
Macaque was awakened by the manhandling. “Hey, baby.” He mumbled with a slurred voice when he saw the lil guy holding him tight. The baby chirped and nosed his head happily, he soon brought Savage and Rumble too in his arms.
“Looks like you're quite the cuddler too.” Chuckled Wukong as he curled around the baby.
Macaque rubbed his eyes and settled comfortably against the baby's chest, listening to his rapid heartbeat. “Wukong… I…” Muttered Macaque as he glanced up at the baby. The lil boy was softly nosing Savage’s head, familiarizing himself with her scent. Macaque cooed at the sight, eyes shining with fatherly love.
Wukong looked down at his husband and immediately understood what he wanted. The great sage gulped and looked at the baby. This was a huge decision, and there were a lot of things left unanswered, but as he glanced at those innocent golden eyes he felt himself melt.
“He needs a name.” Sighed Wukong as he cupped the sweet boy's cheeks, the baby leaned in his touch with a giggle. Macaque immediately lightened, tail wagging.
“He's as soft as a cloud.” Hummed Macaque as he nosed the baby's chest, searching for the perfect name.
“A little cloud, huh. Then how about Xiaotian” Proposed Wukong as he kissed the baby's forehead. The cub giggled, feet kicking in glee.
“He's not little for me.” Snorted Macaque. “But Xiaotian is perfect.”
Wukong smiled, he brought the baby in his arms and curled around him, encircling his lil family. “Our Xiaotian.” He mumbled as he pressed his forehead against the baby's.

A Dev Patel Monkey Man fic, set post movie
He turns to face the tapestry, and then he’s eye to eye with Hanuman. His God. His Mother’s God.
His journey is over. His quest is complete. And in this moment, what makes him pass out isn’t the blood loss, and it isn’t quite the pain either. It’s the relief. The weight that has just lifted gracefully off of his shoulders. He’s never felt quite so unburdened before. He can rest now. Sleep and join his mother at last.
The elevator door dings open 3 seconds after he hits the floor. She reaches him on the 8th and Alpha’s hands are on him on the 9th. She cradles his head in her lap, one palm on his forehead, the other stemming the blood streaming from his palm. She murmurs something against his forehead, a feverish, whispered prayer that he doesn’t hear.
Another Hijira follows suit in murmured prayer as she lathes an ointment over the hole in his abdomen, and seals it with bandages and tape. She looks over at Alpha and nods.
Alpha carefully lifts the kid into her arms, and the rest of his community watch from the open elevator as she carries him back home, all the masked Hijiras murmuring prayers for his life and for his soul throughout their journey back through the throng of festival-goers.
The last time he’d been brought back from the brink of death here, it took him 3 days to wake up.
This time, he awakens exactly 24 hours after arriving back in the Temple, back home.
He hadn't expected to wake back up.
His eyes open to a gentle hand combing through his curls. He blinks a few times, readjusting to light and sound and familiarity. He knows this place, and he knows whose hand is in his hair.
Alpha smiles down at him, “Welcome home, my boy.” She lifts her other hand in front of his, palm up, in an invitation of comfort.
He takes her hand in his and squeezes tight, shutting his eyes. “I- you didn’t have to come back for me.”
“Nonsense.” Alpha pulls him against her and holds him close. He shudders and melts into the embrace, hugging her back tightly. “You’re one of us, my dear boy. And we Hijiras do not leave our people behind.”
He rests his forehead against her collarbone as she continues to run her fingers soothingly through his hair.
“I didn’t plan on coming back,” he whispers. “From King’s.”
“I know.” There’s a soft smile audible in her voice. “Sometimes, our greatest victories come after our hardest won battles. A very powerful act of defiance is learning to grow and continue to live on.”
“I don’t know how to…” he trails off. She continues to pet his hair.
“We’re here for you, my boy. All of us. Through every step of the way.”
It's been 8 days since he woke up in the Hijira Temple for the second time, and it's- good. Everyone he sees welcomes him back home, they smile at him, they hug him. He's had his hands squeezed so often this past week as the Hijiras tell him with sincerity how glad they are he is with them once more. "Good" doesn't seem quite good enough a word to describe the way he is now, but he supposes it'll do.
He's had a lot of time to think, this past week. Zakir is teaching him how to play the tabla, he helped Lakshmi bake bread for everyone on Tuesday, and he's getting quite the hang of basket weaving. He really enjoys losing himself in the pattern of it all.
Now though, he's trying to work up the nerve to ask Alpha about something specific he's been thinking a lot about lately. 'Through every step of the way' he reminds himself as he hovers just out of sight behind the corner. He takes a deep breath in and turns the corner. Alpha is sat in the center of the room, braiding Aravi's hair down her back. She braids two more plaits before securing the ends. Alpha pats Aravi's shoulder and murmurs something he doesn't hear.
Aravi stands and turns, "It's good to see you, Kid" she says as she passes by him in the hallway and beyond the chamber. He means to return the sentiment, but his brain is a little too caught up in his own anxiety to speak.
Alpha waves him over, and he approaches the center of the room before sitting across from her. She smiles warmly at him while he works up the courage to speak.
"Alpha," she tilts her head in acknowledgment. "I'd like to ask you something."
She reaches forward and squeezes the hand not still wrapped in bandages. "You can ask me anything, and I will answer you as best I can."
He nods, tense. "When my mother died," he begins, "the name she gave me died with her. There was nobody left who remembered my name to call me by it. I rarely even spoke, for years after. Nobody knew my name, and that was okay with me. I didn't need one, really. People called me whatever they liked, whatever was convenient, whatever made sense." He shrugs.
"Most just call me Kid. And that's been fine. I didn't want a name. It wouldn't have made sense. It's like- how you're not supposed to name the stray dog, because then you'll get attached. I wasn't- I didn't plan on making it out of there. I've never needed a real name cause I didn't have an actual life to live."
Alpha smiles and squeezes his hand, but stays quiet, encouraging him to finish his thought. "But… now, things are different. I guess. Better."
"Do you have any names in mind, my boy?" She asks him, rubbing her thumb in a soothing pattern over the back of his hand.
He swallows, and nods. "I've been thinking about it a lot lately. Debating in my head between this and that." Alpha's smile widens, and his heart boldens in her support.
"How do you feel about the name, 'Jugaad'?"
Alpha's soft smile breaks into an all out grin. "If it makes you happy, Jugaad, that is all the reason I need to love it."
Jugaad's eyes well with tears and she gently wipes them away with her free hand. "Yeah?" He whispers.
Alpha presses her forehead against his own in a loving embrace. Jugaad nearly crumples in relief. "I only wish happiness for you, my dear Jugaad."

One of the things I really like about the Teal Mask DLC for Scarlet and Violet is that it's all about examining your biases, learning the truth, and not just going on first impressions.
Spoilers to follow.
There's both a blatantly obvious and less obvious way the DLC does this, and I actually really like how it was handled from a storytelling perspective.
The obvious case is Ogerpon. When the player first gets to Kitakami and starts learning about Mossui Town's ogre story, it's playing the Momotaro fairy tale straight - the signs feature a young human figure, a dog, a pheasant, and a monkey chasing out an ogre. But by the end of things, the player - and by extension the entire town - has learned the truth about Ogerpon and how she was framed (species is 100% female). She was the victim in this scenario, and the so-called "Loyal Three" were actually the perpetrators. We don't even know what happened to her human companion or if he even survived their attack. By the end of the DLC, we've helped Ogerpon find acceptance in the town that formerly shunned her, and she's decided to travel with the player, whom she's bonded with. It's a much more typical story about acceptance, truth, and getting the facts straight. Ogerpon deserves reparations.
Less obvious, however, is the player's relationship with Carmine and Kieran, and this is where it's really important to dig a little deeper.
When the player first walks into town, Carmine challenges them immediately. She's looking for a fight and for someone to put down, and she wants to prove her superiority over the new visitors. She's surprised to lose to the player, and runs off when the caretaker arrives. The entire time, she's keeping Kieran under her thumb, barely allowing him to speak. It's not a good first impression at all, and you come away from that interaction thinking she's just a run of the mill bully.
Your first interactions with Kieran are the opposite. He seems to like the player quite a bit, and is really shy about it but really excited to have an actual friend. He's in awe of the player's skill, and he constantly puts himself down, saying he could never compare even though Carmine herself says he's almost as good as she is. You feel bad for him, and you want to look after him, especially since his own sister is constantly snapping at him. He relates to the outcast ogre from the story, and he dreams of meeting it someday.
Once you and Carmine meet Ogerpon by chance at the festival, however, things start to shift. Carmine doesn't want her brother to be upset that he missed the ogre he loves so much, so she hides it from him, even though this causes more grief in the long run. She does actually care about his feelings on some level, even if she's terrible at showing that and still actively puts him down all the time. When she and the player learn the truth about Ogerpon from her grandfather, she's righteously infuriated on Ogerpon's behalf, and she immediately wants to set things right. You and Carmine agree to respect the grandfather's wishes about not telling Kieran yet, but Kieran has been listening in the whole time, and he deems this a betrayal.
From Kieran's point of view, of course it feels like a betrayal - he was bonding with you, and it feels like now his sister has stolen you from him and you're both lying to him about Ogerpon, even if it's to protect him instead of make fun of him, as he wrongfully assumes. He starts avoiding the player and Carmine more because he's emotionally hurt, as most people would be in his situation, and because of this, it ends up being you and Carmine who start to bond with each other - going to get the supplies to repair the mask. When Kieran steals the mask, he's doing it out of pure jealousy - this was supposed to be something he did, not you and his sister. That jealousy unfortunately awakens the covetous spirits of the "Loyal" Three, who come back to life.
After confronting the alleged "Loyal" Three for the first time and collecting information in town, you and Carmine go off to fight them with Ogerpon in tow as Kieran stays behind to tell the townspeople the truth. This is important, because you and Carmine are now actively bonding with Ogerpon, and Kieran isn't even though he's helping her out. By the end of things, once everything is set right with the townspeople and Ogerpon has all her masks back, she indicates that she wants to team up with the player, who's been the one directly interacting with her. Kieran's jealousy gets the better of him again, and he challenges the player for the right to be Ogerpon's trainer, even as Carmine tells him he needs to consider Ogerpon's feelings, too. The player ends up with Ogerpon, of course, and Kieran doesn't take it well.
At the end of things, when they have to go back to school, Carmine is cheerily saying goodbye to everyone, and she reveals that she was being so standoffish because she didn't feel comfortable welcoming outsiders into her hometown. She states she's glad to have gotten to know everyone and hopes to see the player again. Kieran, on the other hand, doesn't even show up, and is locked in his bedroom at his house, swearing that he's going to become stronger than the player and getting a somewhat malicious-looking smile on his face. Things have been completely flipped from how they were at the start.
By the time that "To be continued..." screen hits, you've got much more mixed perspectives on both Carmine and Kieran, and they're both much more morally grey than they seemed at first glance. Carmine is constantly putting her brother down at the beginning, but she does make it clear she worries about him and his feelings, and she does care about him. She becomes nicer to the player once she warms up to them, and she knows what happened to Ogerpon was wrong and gets angry over it. Kieran seems like a beleaguered younger sibling at first, constantly at the mercy of his sister, but he has a fierce streak of jealousy that causes active problems for his hometown and damages his relationship with the player even more than the secret-keeping does. Both kids clearly have issues to work through that are affecting their ability to relate well to others and form bonds, and it's tough to see - even the Mossui Town locals say things about them that make it clear they're considered outsiders in their own home to a degree, and not just because they're descended from the mask maker.
I'm curious to see how things go for them in The Indigo Disk.

Ok but what sort of side effect does Wukong deal with when it comes to making stone eggs? Because if the usual procedure would result in a Stone Monkey's death and damage to their very soul, then there has to be long lasting effects. Is Wukong just... permanently weaker and doesn't have as much endurance as he used to? Does he have moments of chronic illness and pain? Does he lose his breath easy or have lung and/or heart problems? What does the recovery look like for Wukong?
Permanent power debuff during and even after the Stone Egg pregnancy. In addition to a lot of typical pregnancy symptoms... for the next few centuries.
So much energy is needed just to form the egg, that having the parent "awakened" and surviving the process puts a *Huge* biological pressure on the body.
Wukong experiences a much weaker immune response than normal - his divine body and immortalities no match for regulatory T-cells keeping his immune system dampened to protect the Egg and/or to reduce post-partum inflammation. First time he ever caught a cold on the Journey - he thought he was dying cus he'd never experienced that kind of illness before. Spent the rest of the Journey super sus of anything that could get him sick. Same in the modern day; huge advocate for vaccines and mask-wearing. He wont die of illness, but he'll feel like it.
Chronic pain in his lower back and abdomen for like ever. Wukong's body argues with him after the baby arrives since it's been the same shape for hundreds of years, and it takes a while for him to stop having post-partum afterpains. Lots of heat packs, cold compresses, and massages from Macaque are needed to soothe this sore monkey.
Wukong also retains a bit more water afterwards (normal hormonal thing) so his ankles still swell up at odd times.
Gets short of breath a lot faster than he used to. Just something he has to deal with now.
Slightly gross but 100% normal post-partum symptom; Wukong is left with some issues making to the bathroom on time for the next few months or so. The Egg wrecked his "downstairs" on the way out.
Aesthetically; Wukong gets left with some gnarly stretch marks that are really hard for him to glamour off and it makes him a little self-conscious, but he's really proud of them esp since the marks are literally scars from surviving the Stone Egg pregnancy.
Most of the symptoms don't stack (thank buddha) when the lunar node twins happen, but Wukong does experience bonus morning/midnight sickness with them.

It’s totally valid to not like Majora’s Mask time travelling mechanic and I’m not trying to convince you to do so, but, just so you know, even though you seemingly reset your progress every 3 days, the masks that you obtain through side quests serve as a marker for it, and you get better endings for the side characters at the very end if you collect them, even if the time loop seems to reset it all.
Yeah I know that, my main problem is that the overworld and characters get reset.
Like, let's take the first dungeon. The Princess has been kidnapped, the King is angry and thinks the monkey did it (he didn't), and now the Monkey is about to get executed in three days.
So Link gets in the dungeon, beats the boss, saves the deku princess, awakens one of the giants and frees the monkey.
But then you have to go back in time and whoops. The Princess is back to being captured and the Monkey is still gonna get executed. All you changed was awakening the giant, and this changes nothing about the game until you get to the end.
And it's like that the entire game. Nothing you do can actually change anything because you always have to go back. It was just kinda hard to get motivated for the dungeons when you know that nothing is gonna change anyway.

Frozen Hearts & Powder Dreams: A Trafalgar Law ice hockey Y/N Snowboarder AU Series
Part Two: Across the Rink, Across the Slope, Between Practices, Unexpected Sightings & approaches.
Tumblr media
The morning sun, a stark contrast to the moon's soft glow, painted the snow-covered landscape in hues of pale gold and crisp white. On the frozen lake, the Polar Bears were going through their usual morning warm-up drills. Shachi’s booming laughter echoed across the ice as he playfully shoved Penguin, who retaliated with a well-aimed snowball. Ikkaku and Bepo were practicing their defensive formations, their movements synchronized and precise. Jean Bart, with his imposing figure, was effortlessly gliding across the ice, his powerful strides a testament to his strength.
But their captain, Trafalgar Law, was… different. His usual focused intensity was fractured, his gaze drifting away from the familiar routines. His eyes kept flicking towards the slopes of the distant mountains, searching for a familiar silhouette against the snow. The phantom snowboarder from the night before.
He knew it was illogical. Snowboarders practiced during the day, not under the cloak of night. Yet, a part of him, a newly awakened curiosity, couldn’t help but look. He wanted to see her again, not just as a fleeting shadow in the moonlight, but in the clear light of day. He wanted to understand the skill, the passion that radiated from her movements even from a distance. He wanted to… know her. A strange and unfamiliar desire for connection tugged at him.
“Oi, Law! Focus!” Shachi’s voice jolted him back to the present. “You almost took Penguin’s head off with that last shot!”
Law blinked, realizing he’d been going through the motions, his mind elsewhere. “My apologies,” he murmured, his usual stoic mask slipping back into place. He forced himself to concentrate on the drills, the feel of the puck against his stick grounding him in the familiar rhythm of his sport.
Once practice was over, the team, their appetites worked up by the morning exertion, headed to a small, cozy diner nestled at the foot of the mountains, a popular spot for locals and winter sports enthusiasts. They settled into a large booth, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and sizzling breakfast platters filling the air.
Law was halfway through his coffee, listening to Shachi and Penguin bicker good-naturedly about a missed pass during practice, when his gaze snagged on a group entering the diner. His breath hitched.
There she was.
Surrounded by a boisterous crew, their laughter and energy filling the small space, was the snowboarder he’d seen under the moonlight. In the daylight, she was even more striking. Her dark skin contrasted beautifully with the bright colors of her snowboarding gear, which she hadn’t fully shed despite being indoors. A beanie, pulled low over her forehead, couldn’t hide the sharp intelligence in her eyes as she listened intently to someone speaking beside her.
Law recognized some of the faces around her. The Straw Hat Pirates, notorious for their chaotic energy and their captain, the ever-smiling Monkey D. Luffy, who was currently trying to balance a stack of pancakes on his nose. And mixed in with them were members of the Whitebeard Pirates, their imposing figures and distinctive markings easily recognizable. So, she was connected to them. Luffy’s assistant, he recalled.
His eyes, however, kept returning to her. The way she leaned back in her chair, a playful smirk dancing on her lips as she exchanged a witty remark with a red-haired man afar from her. The effortless cool that seemed to emanate from her. He watched, completely engrossed, as she gestured animatedly while telling a story, her hands moving with a natural grace that mirrored her movements on the snowboard.
He must have been staring, because Penguin nudged him with his elbow, a knowing smirk on his face. “Something interesting over there, Captain?”
Law’s cheeks flushed slightly, a rare occurrence that didn’t go unnoticed by his crew. He quickly averted his gaze, taking a large gulp of his coffee. “Just… observing the other patrons.”
“Uh-huh,” Shachi chimed in, his eyes twinkling mischievously. “Observing one patron in particular, it seems.”
Law shot them a sharp glare, but his heart was still pounding slightly. He’d forgotten that snowboarders would be practicing during the day. It was a completely different schedule than theirs.
Across the diner, Y/N and her crew were settling into their own breakfast. The atmosphere was lively, filled with the usual Straw Hat and Whitebeard chaos. Luffy was already halfway through his mountain of food, while Ace and Sabo were engaged in a playful argument about who had pulled off a better prank recently.
Y/N, however, felt a prickling sensation, a feeling of being watched. She glanced around the diner, her eyes briefly meeting a pair of intense grey ones across the room. The ice hockey captain. She recognized him from their nighttime encounters, though she’d never seen him this close before. He had a serious, almost brooding air about him, but there was something intriguing about the intensity of his gaze.
She offered him a small, almost imperceptible nod before turning back to her crew, a faint smile playing on her lips. So, he’d noticed her too.
Their breakfast continued, the two groups occupying different corners of the diner, yet a silent awareness lingered between them. Law found himself stealing glances at Y/N whenever he thought she wouldn’t notice. He was captivated by her energy, the way she interacted with her friends, the easy confidence that seemed to surround her. She was a stark contrast to his own reserved nature, yet he found himself inexplicably drawn to her.
By the time the Polar Bears finished their lunch, Y/N and her crew were just getting started. Law knew they had another practice session scheduled for the afternoon. This was his chance. He could try to talk to her. Just a simple hello, maybe a comment about her snowboarding. But the thought sent a wave of unexpected nervousness through him. He, the stoic and collected Trafalgar Law, was actually feeling shy.
He hesitated, his hand hovering over his half-empty plate. His team was already getting up to leave, Shachi and Penguin making exaggerated gestures towards Y/N’s table, much to Law’s annoyance.
“Come on, Captain! Let’s go!” Shachi called out, already heading towards the exit.
Law sighed inwardly. He was running out of time. He glanced back at Y/N one last time. She was laughing at something Luffy had said, her head thrown back, her smile radiant. He felt a pang of… something. Was it regret?
He stood up, following his team towards the door. As he reached the exit, he paused, his gaze lingering on Y/N’s table. He took a deep breath, a sudden surge of determination overriding his shyness. He had to try.
He turned slightly, his eyes meeting hers across the bustling diner. He opened his mouth to speak, but before he could utter a single word, Luffy, in his usual booming voice, called out, “Y/N! Let’s go! Gotta hit those slopes before the snow melts!”
Y/N turned towards her captain, her smile widening. She grabbed her jacket and snowboard, slinging the board over her shoulder with an effortless movement. She glanced back at Law, a knowing glint in her eyes, and offered him a small, almost teasing wave before following Luffy and the rest of her crew out of the diner.
Law watched them go, the sound of their laughter fading into the crisp morning air. He stood there for a moment, a mixture of disappointment and amusement swirling within him. He’d missed his chance. Or had he? The small wave, the knowing look in her eyes… it felt like an invitation, a silent acknowledgment of their shared nighttime observations.
A small, almost imperceptible smile touched his lips. He might have missed this opportunity, but he had a feeling this wouldn’t be the last time their paths crossed. The tournaments were approaching, and Kuraigana Island wasn’t that big. He would find another chance. The aroma of grilled fish and steaming rice filled the air around Y/N and her crew as they settled down for a late lunch at a picnic table overlooking the mountain range. The Straw Hats and some of the Whitebeard pirates were recounting their morning practice sessions, filled with exaggerated tales of daring jumps and near misses. Y/N listened with a smile, occasionally interjecting with a witty remark or a playful jab.
Despite the lively atmosphere, her gaze kept drifting towards the frozen lake in the distance. She could just make out the figures of the Polar Bears, their practice seemingly over. But one figure remained on the ice. The captain. Trafalgar Law.
She watched as he continued to skate, his movements sharp and precise. He was practicing his shots, the puck flying across the ice with incredible speed, slamming against the net with a resounding thwack. Even from this distance, she could sense his unwavering focus, the sheer determination etched into his posture.
He’s really putting in the work, she thought, impressed. She’d seen the intensity in his eyes last night, and it was clear he was serious about the upcoming tournament.
Normally, Law would have joined his team for lunch at the diner. But today, the image of the snowboarder, the way she’d looked against the moonlight, kept replaying in his mind. He wanted to talk to her, to somehow bridge the gap between their nighttime observations. Yet, the ingrained discipline, the responsibility he felt towards his team and the upcoming championship, won out. He pushed himself harder, skating faster, shooting with more force, channeling his restless energy into his practice.
He was so engrossed in his drills that he almost didn’t notice the figure approaching the edge of the rink. It wasn’t one of his teammates. He skidded to a stop, his breath coming in short bursts, and looked up.
Standing at the edge of the ice, her snowboard propped casually against her leg, was her. Y/N. The sunlight caught the vibrant colors of her jacket, and her dark hair was pulled back in a messy bun, revealing a pair of sharp, intelligent eyes that were currently fixed on him with a confident, almost amused expression.
Law’s heart did a strange little flutter. He hadn’t expected her to approach him. He felt a sudden wave of nervousness wash over him, his palms feeling slightly sweaty inside his gloves. He hadn’t even taken off his helmet yet. He probably looked like a sweaty mess.
Y/N, unfazed by his slightly startled expression, leaned slightly against her snowboard, a playful smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. “You know,” she started, her voice carrying easily across the ice, “for someone who looked like they were about to pass out from exhaustion earlier, you’ve got some serious stamina.”
Law, caught off guard by her directness, blinked. He hadn’t expected her to be so… forward. He fumbled with the clasp of his helmet, finally managing to pull it off, his dark hair slightly damp and sticking to his forehead. He ran a hand through it self-consciously.
“We have a tournament approaching,” he replied, his voice a little rough from the exertion. He tried to keep his tone even, masking the unexpected nervousness that was bubbling inside him.
Y/N chuckled, a warm, genuine sound that somehow cut through the cool air. “Yeah, well, so do we. Though I prefer my practice with a bit more… air time.” She gestured towards the mountains with a playful flick of her wrist.
A small, almost hesitant smile touched Law’s lips. He found himself surprisingly disarmed by her easygoing demeanor. “I… observed that last night. Your… aerial maneuvers were quite impressive.” The words felt awkward coming out, a bit too formal, but it was the truth.
Y/N’s smirk widened. “Oh, you were watching? I figured the intense hockey practice had your full attention.” There was a hint of teasing in her voice, but it wasn’t unkind.
Law felt his cheeks heat up slightly. He hadn’t realized she’d noticed him watching. “I… occasionally take breaks,” he mumbled, feeling more flustered than he’d been in a long time.
Y/N pushed off her snowboard and took a few steps closer to the edge of the ice. “Well, ‘Captain,’” she said, emphasizing the title with a playful lilt, “I have to say, your puck control is pretty impressive too. You were practically dancing out there.”
Law’s eyebrows raised slightly. He hadn’t expected such a direct compliment. He felt a strange sense of pride mixed with his lingering nervousness. “Thank you,” he managed, the word feeling a little stiff on his tongue.
There was a brief moment of comfortable silence between them, the only sounds the distant chatter of Y/N’s crew and the gentle breeze rustling through the trees. Law found himself looking at her properly for the first time in the daylight. Her eyes were a warm, inviting shade of brown, and there was a spark of mischief in them that hinted at a playful spirit. He also noticed the determined set of her jaw, the athletic build that spoke of hours spent perfecting her craft.
Y/N broke the silence with a wry smile. “So, Captain. Moonlight admirer by night, focused hockey player by day. Quite the duality.”
Law felt a genuine laugh bubble up from his chest, surprising even himself. “And you, moonlight acrobat by night, gravity-defying snowboarder by day. Seems we both have our preferred stages.”
“True,” Y/N agreed, her smile softening slightly. “Though I have to say, the moonlight does add a certain… dramatic flair.”
“It does,” Law admitted, his gaze meeting hers. For a fleeting moment, the playful banter faded, replaced by a shared understanding, a silent acknowledgment of the passion that drove them both.
Then, a loud shout echoed from the picnic tables. “Y/N! You gonna stand there all day flirting with the competition, or are we hitting the slopes again?” It was Luffy, his voice booming across the distance, a wide, teasing grin on his face.
Y/N rolled her eyes good-naturedly. “Duty calls,” she said, turning back towards Law. “It was… interesting meeting you in the daylight, Captain.”
“The sentiment is mutual,” Law replied, feeling a genuine warmth spread through him despite the cool air.
Y/N slung her snowboard back over her shoulder, her eyes meeting his one last time. “Maybe I’ll catch your next moonlight practice. See if you’re as graceful on the ice as you are under the stars.” With a final, cheeky wink, she turned and headed back towards her waiting crew.
Law watched her go, a small smile playing on his lips. He still felt a bit flustered, but there was a lightness in his chest he hadn’t felt in a long time. He’d finally spoken to her. And somehow, he had a feeling this was just the beginning. He picked up his hockey stick, the familiar weight grounding him, but his thoughts were already drifting back to the snowboarder with the captivating smile and the gravity-defying skills. The upcoming tournaments suddenly felt a little more… interesting.

Toxic Consequences AU: Chapter 3
An Offer
(As always, notes will be under the cut. Enjoy and feel free to send an ask if you want to!)
Kieran was in shock. How... how were the Loyal 3 back?! Why?! Was... Kieran responsible for this?
Maybe when he punched the shrine... but how would that work? The shrine had some dents and scratches due to the people and Pokémon accidently damaging it, and the trio were never revived....
Maybe the mask was responsible?
Kieran was snapped out of his thoughts as he got a better look at them.
They were different than what the townsfolk depicted them as, although that might be due to the people's warped perspective of the trio.
Okidogi was the biggest of the three. Instead of having a bright green fur color like his hero depiction, he had dark gray fur with green coloring. There were scars over the dog Pokémon's body, likely due to the fatal encounter with Ogerpon. Around Okidogi's neck was a bright pink chain. Some parts of it cracked and oozed a purple liquid.
Munkidori was next to Okidogi. The monkey was the smallest of the three. He had the same coloring as Okidogi, but with blue markings instead of green. Munkidori also had a bit of an enlarged brain, and his eyes seemed like they were constantly looking into the future. Around Munkidori's head was the same pink chain, this one less damaged.
Finally, Fezandipiti was on the right. He had the same dark coloring as his allies. The bird Pokémon had more of the pink highlights than the others, with long lashes and beautiful markings on his body. Around Fezandipiti's body was the same chain, but with no damages. The Pokémon likely valued the chain as if it were itself.
On further inspection, the Loyal 3 didn't look heroic or even kind. They all had that same malicious demeanor and gave off a menacing aura.
Kieran's thoughts were interrupted when one of the members, Okidogi, stepped forward to where Kieran was.
Kieran instinctively backed away. The Loyal 3 were villains. Wouldn't that mean that they'd attack Kieran?
Rather than attack Kieran, Okidogi seemed... more curious than anything.  It sniffed at the boy before stopping.
Kieran watched with slight confusion as the Loyal 3 seemed to be discussing amongst themselves. Then, without warning, they took off towards Kitakami Hall in great haste.
"Wha- Hey! You can't just leave me here!" Kieran yelled. He took off running after the trio, determined to get some answers.
Eventually, Kieran caught up with the Loyal 3. He stood in front of them, out of breath.
"Stop running." He said, panting. "I want answers.
The Loyal 3 didn't seen to care. They seemed preoccupied with something else. They weren't even looking at Kieran.
They weren't even looking at Kieran.... that meant....
Hello, Kieran.
Kieran spun around and came face-to-face with the mysterious Pokémon from earlier.
"It's you again! What... what do you want?" Kieran asked, confused and a bit angry. He was tired of being ignored by everyone. Why wouldn't anyone tell him anything?
The Pokémon answered, its voice echoing in Kieran's mind.
I want to help you, Kieran.
Kieran blinked in confusion. This Pokémon.... why would it want to help Kieran of all people? Sure, it gave him the mochi, and it told him to take the Teal Mask to Loyalty Plaza.... but why?
The Pokémon seemed to be reading Kieran's mind. It spoke again in a cheerful tone.
It's an exchange, you see. You helped bring back my Chained, and awakened me from my dormant state. So now, I get to help repay the favor!  I'm here to help you, Kieran!
The boy was curious. "What kind of help are you talking about?"
The Pokémon continued its offer.
You see, I have a special power. I can grant the desires of those I deem worthy, and I'm offering my help to you! What is it you want? Fortune? Fame? Smarts? Anything you want, I can provide.
The offer sounded too good to be true. Kieran knew that there had to be a catch. There always was one in these kinds of situations.
He put on a brave face, and looked the Pokémon in the eye.
"What's the catch?"
The Pokémon was silent for a moment. It was likely hiding something....
Oh, there was definitely a catch. And Kieran knew that the Pokémon wasn't going to tell him.
Kieran wasn't interested in making any shady deals and risk losing his soul, or dying, or whatever fate would befell him.
"I refuse your offer. I'm sorry, but I can do this on my own."
And with that said, Kieran walked past the Pokémon and to Mossui Town, leaving it and the Loyal 3 behind.
He didn't need help from a random shady Pokémon. He could do this on his own.
....Right?
Dokutaro's POV
So he refused my offer. No worries. He'll realize soon enough, and then he will come back, begging for my help.
It's only a matter of time. Besides, I've waited hundreds of years for this, who's to say I can't wait a little bit longer?
His time will come.
FINALLY
I would've gotten this done sooner if it weren't for writers block
The drawing will be out sometime today or tomorrow
As always, feel free to send an ask or reblog if ya want to! I enjoy it a lot!

hypothetically! hypothetically.. okay?
let's say that there was a girl, that u rly super liked. this girl tho, lacked a particular body part. in this case: her eyelids. (think like, porcelain doll laying flat on its back. it's lil eye mechanism thingys creating a perpetual stare.)
what do u suppose you'd do? would u still like her, despite her obvious flaw? or would u have to say goodbye, and part ways.
-- little monkey
bodhidharma, is that u?
hypothetically tho, if there were such a girl, i'm sure i would still like her. and bc i "rly super liked" her i would likely seek to help her w this condition if it bothered her. however, if this thing u call "an obvious flaw" was not of particular concern to her, well then i guess i just have to get used to it.
still, if our bond were to progress to the point that we share a bed at night, i might have to insist that one or both of us wear eye masks to sleep, bc i'd imagine awakening to an eyelidless stare could be a bit unsettling if not altogether jarring. u know what tho? i've grown accustomed to some things i'd've never expected to get used to, so who knows rly?
in my experience monkeys of all sizes can be relentless menaces, so i do hope ur a good little monkey, anon.
thank u for the ask 👁️👁️

Lmao I can’t believe I missed you saying that you watched Kubo and the Two Strings last month - that was my MOVIE when it first came out!! I actually decided to rewatch it after seeing your post, and yeah that last shot of Kubo with his mom and dad’s human SPIRITS smiling at each other and then the audience after everything that happened was just plain mean of the movie makers, no way they didn’t know what they were doing with that XD
(Warning and apologies for the following movie rant that this rewatch awakened in me) What did you think of the Moon King and the Sisters? I thought they were AWESOME villains the first time I saw this in theaters, PLUS it turns out that they’ve got really good rewatch value. In the Sisters’ case, it makes total sense now why the chain-wielding Sister at the boat freaked out and lunged at Beetle when she first saw him. And then there’s the smoking, sword-wielding Sister rubbing him actually being Hanzo in his face at the fortress trap and waiting until he was sharing a tender moment with his son to get back up and kill him for good. These two have a GRUDGE™. In the Moon King’s case, him visiting Kubo’s dream pretending to be a blind seer was actually pretty smart; Kubo of course had no way of knowing what his grandfather looks like at that point, and the Moon King made their meeting spot out of origami paper and was playing his personal shamisen like Kubo always does to make him more comfortable and likely to trust the dream.
SPEAKING OF THE SECOND SISTER AND THE MOON KING, I completely forgot that these two both straight-up backhanded Kubo when he fought back against them?? Hard enough that he blacked out for at least a solid minute each time??? Like, after Kubo swipes at his Aunt’s face with his shamisen pick when she’s about to RIP HIS OTHER EYE OUT, she full-on screams in a rage before smacking him?? Like girl what did you think he was gonna do - you’re standing here GIGGLING about this eye horror shit you’re about to do to your 11-12 YEAR OLD NEPHEW like it’s a game, but all of a sudden there’s a huge problem just ‘cause he broke your mask and pipe in self-defense?? And then she just kinda looks at him on the ground for a moment right before Monkey Mom rushes over with the Sword Unbreakable - YEAH BITCH HE DID A WHOLE FLIP FROM HOW HARD YOU HIT HIM WHAT YOU DIDN’T THINK THAT WOULD HAPPEN OR YOU JUST REALIZED WHAT YOU DID OR WHAT WHAT’S THAT STUPID SORTA-STUNNED-BUT-STILL-ANGRY LOOK FOR!?!
AND WHEN THE MOON KING FINALLY SHOWS UP IN PERSON he’s all amicable and shit like Kubo didn’t lose both his parents all over again all at once and his veneer keeps cracking when Kubo brings up totally valid points that he doesn’t like and when Kubo’s fully fed up and full of rage and like “I’m legit gonna try to kill you now” he’s like “oh how mortal very well” before going literal beast mode and then SQUEEZING Kubo in his creepy tail-hand once he nabs him right before BACKHANDING HIM LITERALLY ACROSS THE WHOLE FOREST THANK GOODNESS KUBO’S A LITERAL DEMIGOD OR HE WOULD’VE BEEN KILLED RIGHT THEN. And SPEAKING OF KILLING I was SURE that the Moon Beast was trying to kill Kubo in return at this point but I misremembered that too?? Because when he corners Kubo as he’s letting go of his anger near the river where the Sisters first showed up he’s all “now take one last look with that lonely eye at this wretched place” and Kubo replies quote “I’m not leaving” with a bunch of stuff about how he can still see with one eye the beauty of the world despite the awful stuff just like his parents did and the Moon Beast replies quote “Then I’ll just have to rip it right out of your head again, won’t I?!” SO HE ACTUALLY STILL WANTS TO TAKE KUBO TO BE PART OF HIS FAMILY IN THE HEAVENS EVEN WHILE DOING ALL THE SHIT HE DID NOT TWO MINUTES AGO, AND THEN HE’S ALL QUOTE “Everything you loved is gone! Everything you knew has been taken from you!” YEAH IT WAS TAKEN BY YOU AND YOUR TWO OTHER DAUGHTERS AND YET YOU’RE TRYING TO CONVINCE YOUR GRANDSON INTO GOING WITH YOU IN THE MIDDLE OF SIMULTANEOUSLY TRYING TO FORCE HIM BY PHYSICALLY ATTACKING HIM AND ARE UPSET IT’S NOT WORKING???
The first Sister isn’t even exempt from this behavior just because she doesn’t have any one-on-one interaction with Kubo since she was giggling right along with her twin when they first met him. The interesting thing is that SHE ALSO shows signs of personally wanting Kubo in the family since both her and her twin said quote “We’re here, Kubo. You’re family has come for you.” when he was running away and tripped at the bridge on top of having HER OWN moment of being pissed that he wasn’t cooperating when she found his drinking gourd in in the snow and said quote “He’s searching for the armor, just like his insolent father.” sounding all irritated/hurt/disappointed??
My thing with the three Moon Family members upon rewatch is that all three of them are obviously abusive and take sadistic joy in what they’re doing yet genuinely want Kubo to be part of their family, try to “comfort” and/or convince him in the middle of what they’re doing (the above example with both Sisters at the bridge plus the second Sister brushing Kubo’s cheek with her hand and shushing him when she’s about to take his other eye plus the Moon King trying to convince him with his words twice, calmly when they first meet and frustratedly near the end) and are pissed that he doesn’t want to go with them all at the EXACT same time?? I’m not bad-angry with it either as if it were bad writing since people like this honest-to-God exist in real life and the Laika writers consistently establish the Moon Family as being this way throughout the movie so you know that’s what they’re going for; I’m good-angry with the characters themselves because - once more with feeling - 👏 what 👏 did 👏 you 👏 think 👏 he 👏 was 👏 gonna 👏 do?? Like I totally get why Monkey Mom had to clarify to Kubo that the Moon King doesn’t hate him (I also misremembered that scene as Kubo asking her “Does Grandfather hate me?” when he actually asked “Why does Grandfather hate me?” like little boy had fully come to that conclusion all on his own at that point in the movie) as well as her comment to the second Sister saying quote “I think we have very different definitions of family” because the mixed signals are really something else?? I don’t know whether it’s because they’re actual malignant sociopaths or because they’re a literally immortal, human-looking godly species or both but I’m just gonna end this by saying kudos to Laika for looking at Even Evil Has Loved Ones, looking back at the movie they’re in the middle of making, and going “yeah, we’re gonna play this trope straight but in the exact opposite of the wholesome and heartwarming read of it 😈” for the SECOND time now.
oh! I love the enthusiasm! I really really really enjoyed the movie, I loved all the characters and character designs. The beats in the movie were great. All the fights were great. It really feels like a movie worth rewatching to notice the interactions now that you know the twist! i just wanted something from kubo mourning the loss of both his human family and his celestial family. he's like twelve? and he's lost everyone he's related to, even if they were trying to kill him. it sounds like he would've wanted all of them in his life if possible. and now he's left with nobody in the whole wide world, or at least he thinks so. I would've loved the finale scene of kubo being devastated of losing all his family and then the village seeing what happened basically adopt him. you know the whole 'your family doesnt have to be who you are born too. your family can be the people around you' the villlagers already like kubo the just never understood why he had to leave before sun down.
its just kinda weird that scene goes to the grandfather when he becomes human.
and I don't mind the darkness! i think it's good for kids to have that!! I just want some balance where it's ok to have loss there's always going to be people around you to help pick up the pieces!

The weeks Monkey D. Dragon spent with the child god he'd found on Baltigo's training grounds were interesting to say the least.
He didn't mind the god's presence as others in the Army very, very obviously did; rather, he quite enjoyed being around him, a parental instinct he didn't know he had being awakened. The boy couldn't recall his name, nor what his domain was when Dragon had questioned him on it, but they both seemed to agree on it being nature when flowers bloomed depending on his emotions and he couldn't walk barefoot without leaving a trail of flora.
The name issue was a bit more complicated, though.
Every suggestion he made was shot down for "not being cool enough" or "being too dumb." It went on for several days with him just being called Godling by anyone needing his attention, which did appear to get on his nerves after a while. Finally, when they were sitting in the mess hall, one of the Army members who didn't bother masking their dislike for him had suggested Fluffy, "because he follows you around like a mutt."
Dragon didn't take kindly to that, but it got the boy to smacking his hands excitedly, his appearance growing mildly unstable from his high emotions, orange roses growing and crowding each other out enough to force petals and eventually full flowers to fall to the table, a cloudy-cotton tail forming just to wag wildly behind him. "I got it, I got it, Luffy! I can be Luffy!"
Dragon sent a look to his subordinate that screamed 'we will be speaking later,' but it didn't last long as his expression softened upon looking at Luffy.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Luffy." Dragon greeted politely, earning a high pitched sound of happiness from the small god and unintelligible ramblings as he scrambled out of his seat and took off to introduce himself to anyone who would listen. The Revolutionary felt the walls he kept around his heart begin to crumble the longer he kept the boy around, slowly wishing to be able to properly raise him as his own in a way he never desired prior.
He would allow Luffy to ride on his shoulders around the base and attend meetings with him, not seeing any harm with the boy who looked and acted to be no more than five years old to stick by him.
He hadn't, not in the first month.
He hadn't, not in the second, nor the third, nor the fourth.
Luffy had boldly told him that he wanted his name in the fifth but no one ever called him it so he didn't know what to introduce himself as. Dragon melted when Luffy had held out a pudgy little hand to him, introducing himself as Monkey D. Luffy for the first time.
And then the sixth month rolled around and tensions exploded.
In the middle of a new moon night, a child's scream broke the peace of the waves and the sound of a man's dying gurgles followed soon after. Dragon would be the first to Luffy's room to find him clutching his face and neck, fat tears rolling down his face and liquid sunlight beginning to stain his nightclothes from wounds that weren't there when he'd tucked him in only hours earlier.
Red columbines and rhododendrons were blooming and wilting at an alarming rate, and wide, fearful eyes were trained on a weeping willow encasing and impaling the same Army member who had made the comment of Luffy being a mutt all those months prior, a sunlight-bloodied dagger gripped in his hand before falling to the ground.
After only a couple moments of staring in shock, Dragon rushed over to his son the god, practically falling onto the bed to hold onto him, large working hands nearly enveloping Luffy's head as he held onto his face with a carefulness that he didn't even know he was capable of. Luffy snapped out of his fear-daze and lurched forward, grabbing onto Dragon and burying his face in his chest, wailing sobs with enough force behind them to leave him shaking like a leaf as the Revolutionary held him closely, eyes staring into nothingness as it hit him that he wouldn't be able to keep him safe, not when everyone knew he was a god.
Silently, for the first time in years, Dragon felt a tear snake its way down his cheek as he realized that he was never going to be able to provide the safety that Luffy needed and deserved. That he was never going to be able to provide the slightest chance of being treated normally with the lie of a devil fruit.
He held Luffy like he would disappear if he were to let go as Kuma and Ivankov stood in the doorway, watching with tight, pitying expressions.
They knew he knew, after all.
