He untied his robes and opened his chest with a spectacular ripping sound. A pile of hearts came tumbling out. He scooped up the bleeding heap and sorted through it in full view of everyone: there was a red heart, a white heart, a yellow heart, an avaricious heart, a greedy heart, a petty heart, a competitive heart, an ambitious heart, a scornful heart, a murderous heart... "He's got a lot of heart, this Buddhist," observed the Taoist drily.
Sun Wukong knows so many fun tricks that are enjoyable to everyone else around him :)

"AU Senlin"
Tumblr media
Well, I finally made a reference for him...
I've drawn so many heads, so many sketches of his clothes, but I've never drawn him in color!
In this AU, I made Macaque born from the shadow of Wukong. Because I like the philosophical side of the novel, where killing Macaque is seen as Wukong destroying his past self, the person he could have become if he hadn't become a monk (very simplistically put), but in this AU, the Monkey didn't die; he survived thanks to Riluo secretly stealing his body and bringing it to Xue, who healed him (albeit not completely, as some scars remained).
"I'm no longer your shadow."
"That's right, you're not even a shadow."
And yet, everything was going so well in the beginning... Wukong was an unusual monkey from the moment he was born, he had a power inside him that even permeated his shadow and was able to materialize a similar one, someone who was supposed to be his friend, his brother, but fate had other plans.

my Wukong. I couldn't pass by the game..🩵 I think this art looks like it's from the 00s... not really typical of my style 😅 (drawn earlier this year)
p.s.: I couldn't decide on one background color option, so let the art have several versions!

I picked all their roles very heartly
1986-jinu: basically the main one
1996-romance: I think they're both very charming!
Reborn-mystery: just overall their silent emo vibe
Lmk-baby: mainstream show for kids about swk
BMW-abby: canon abs, also both are fan service (I'm the fan)

I actually agree with this a lot. A verbal apology would be nice because it would force him to clearly admit his wrongdoings, but it's not like he did nothing to help out the team.
Season 3 : He goes against LBD at MK's request. And while it's true that stopping LBD is imperative because she was going to destroy the world, you have to take into account Macaque's relationship with LBD to understand how impactful Macaque decision is here. Throughout season 3 Macaque singular goal was surviving LBD and running away. LBD was forcing him to do her biding through violence, she was literally abusing him in more ways than one, threatening oblivion if he didn't obey. The fact that Macaque faced his abuser (LBD) at MK's request to right his wrongdoings and ultimately save the world is not some "foolish suicidal act done out of self-preservation", it's him facing his greatest fear to help out a kid who, mind you, is not even sure to win against LBD. Sure, you can say Macaque had to face LBD because she was going to destroy the world, but you also have to consider this : Macaque wasn't sure that MK was going to win, in fact with Wukong being possessed MK chances were very low. If Macaque was only doing this out of self-preservation, why would he directly involve himself with a kid who had every reasons to beat him up? Worse, why would he deliberately show himself to LBD? The guy put himself on the frontlines, clearly taking a stand against his former abuser (LBD), fighting against one of the most powerful being in existence (possesses Wukong) to help out a kid who had every reasons to hate him and turns on him given the opportunity... This makes no sense whatsover if Macaque was only doing this out of self-preservation. He's the one taking the greatest risks here. Clearly he had other motivations, AKA righting his wrongs towards MK.
Season 4 : Here, Macaque is willingly stepping up by himself, without anyone asking him to, to help out Wukong, the guy he was literally trying to kill in season 1. He's even staying afterward to be involved in the brotherhood takedown when he has no reason to do.
Season 5 : He is sacrificing himself to Li Jing's Pagoda to help out the team escape! And this time you can't even use the self-preservation excuse because this singular instance of Li Jing going against the team wasn't world-threatening. There is literally no other explanation but Macaque wanting to help out of geniune feelings. He even helps out against Xianglu afterward, going against MK to prevent him from sacrificing himself. If Macaque was again doing this out of self-preservation, why would he try to prevent MK from sacrificing himself and argue for another solution (when MK's sacrifice could literally save the world)!?
And I'm tired of people brushing aside those actions as bad writing to pretend they don't exist. Maybe you don't like the way things went, and maybe the redemption processus wasn't perfect, but you can't re-write an entire character story arc while ignoring everything he did and pretend your analysis is canon. It's fine to be frustrated with the writing if you don't like it and to have some qualms with it, but don't go around re-writing a character personality to fit your narrative and pretend it's canon, at least have the decency to admit it's a headcanon of yours. If you like Macaque better as a villain, it's fine. But truth of the matter is, he's no longer a villain in the canon story and no amount of arguments can change that. If you want him to still be a villain, write another timeline, find aus, enjoy yourself. But don't go around trying to tweak the canon story to justify your narrative, and hate on people who don't see him as a villain.
Like if you ignore Macaque actions because you don't like them and wants him to fit your narrative, your analysis is biased. It's factually untrue. If you want a true understanding of his personality you have to take all of his actions into account and the reasons behind those actions, and not brush them aside because you don't like what they mean.
You can't nit-pick a character actions, choosing all the bad ones, and completely brush aside the good ones.
Yes, Macaque's personality is often butchered. Some people makes him out to be an innocent victim, and Wukong is blamed for everything when in truth they are both to be blamed. But if you try to push the narrative that Macaque is an unfeeling psychopath, just because you feel vindictive about Wukong's mischaracterization, then you're doing the exact same thing that you blame people for doing.
It's just so exhausting to find people who defends Wukong (which I do myself) and feeling happy about it, just to find they hate Macaque with a passion and butcher him completely, maybe even in a worse way that people who butcher Wukong.
It's a bit ironic to fight against the mischaracterization of a character just to mischaracterize another character just as badly than the people you fight against.
Hot take: I don’t think Macaque should apologize because his actions speak louder than any apology he could give. Like dont get me wrong, a verbal apology would be nice, but it would seem so ooc and he’s proven that he’s willing to help the gang out if he needs to. I think him risking his life trying to help them says a lot.
