youtube
Welcome to the Chicago Beer Pass: Your ticket to all the great beer events happening in and around Chicago.
On this episode of Chicago Beer Pass, Brad Chmielewski and Nik White continue their Oktoberfest journey, this time opening bottles of Staghorn Octoberfest from New Glarus Brewing. Sure, New Glarus Brewing isn't an Illinois brewery, but you have to make an exception for New Glarus, right? Plus, the New Glarus Oktoberfest is fantastic! As the guys dive into this six-pack of beers, Brad shares his brewery adventures with his family, with stops at New Glarus, Goose Island, and Oktoberfest at Half Acre Brewing.

theres a specific quirk Mari has that i have yet to make any kind of drawing about which is that she Hates being human. she finds it to be a deeply horrifying but necessary price to pay for being given the honor of protecting Earth. and she assumes everyone else thinks its just as disturbing so she doesnt bring it up for a while. but like yknow how normal people get really scared at the idea of transforming into something else. mari looks in the mirror and sees her human face and gets dizzy and sick from how wrong it feels. and she thinks thats normal for like a year
#It's Showtime!#Marize#Scripts#the line i said to marzen of 'i dont think she even likes violence i think she just likes being good at it' forever haunts me .#my darling girl who has so many issues and doesnt know about it until they ruin her life ....

ok gathering thoughts a bit. as i suspected the entire time the manga is incredibly different from the anime as the show had to cut a lot of little details that ended up resulting in a vastly different story. the manga has a lot more meat to it but i think now that ive finished them both i still like the ending of the anime more. the manga was insane and awesome and i liked it a lot, and this opinion may change, but i think the brief moment of reconciliation between knives and vash at the very end was more impactful in the show. the difference in the way they ended left the show much more open to opportunity and change, and while the mangas ending was beautiful and had such a wonderfully classic western style movie ending of "running off into the sunrise being chased by all the other characters" it like. i dont know. it went on a little bit longer than the show did. i think i liked the anime one more
the ending of the manga was very visual which was a little hard for me to parse at times also. manga fight scenes are a bit difficult for me... its all in black and white........ but i think i like the anime ending for knives' character better too. it has a lot of different implications because of some of those key differences. in the manga knives seems so literally powerless to that choice in the end. he's being forced to accept that his dreams could never become reality, that his violence was born of delusion, and he's being drained of everything he thought made him better. which is very powerful, dont get me wrong, but like .
in the anime he is purely overcome by vash's willpower. that ceding of victory to vash is more impactful there to me, because knives lets the battle end and accepts his defeat entirely on his own. in the manga there are other forces at play pushing that eventuality onto him, but theres such a difference in his character there where in the manga he is as much as anybody a victim of circumstance, even if those circumstances are entirely due to his actions. in the show he has much more control, which makes the act of him giving it up more impactful to me. it speaks more of respect at least the way i saw it. in the manga knives reached an understanding of the world, and in the show it was more just an understanding of his brother. knives didnt reach that second rung of "i was wrong" but he was being given a choice to get there. one we dont see come to fruition, but that offer is so much more clear, and it's left open-ended as vash carries him away. i think i liked that more than knives disappearing by himself at the end of the manga. hes been fighting his whole life, and to me even after this great conflict, it wont be so easy for him to change. the show's ending implied that he still has a long way to go, and he'll get to see where it leads, which i like more than the manga's implication that he did what he could to repent in his own way and then left to die on his own (which, now that im typing it out, weirdly mirrors wolfwoods death. which is interesting but not what im here to talk about right now)
#shells cascading#much more to think about but i copy pasted some of this from discord bc i wanted to post it#me and marzen talking about the fall of man and apple symbolism rn

Chicago Beer Pass: Oktoberfest Throwdown
youtube
Welcome to the Chicago Beer Pass: Your ticket to all the great beer events happening in and around Chicago.
On this episode of Chicago Beer Pass, the time has finally arrived for the Oktoberfest throwdown! Brad Chmielewski and Nik White are joined by their buddy Sergio Salgado to tackle this epic lineup of Oktoberfest beers. Luckily Sergio was able to join the guys because this was really too many beers for two people to tackle. With this years lineup being even bigger than last years, it seems like every brewery is now doing an Oktoberfest. You'll have to watch or listen to the episode to see who was at the top and bottom but there were some big surprises this time around.

I just remembered something from when I was a kid.
I was playing Mischief Makers (an underrated N64 game), and I was playing Level 3-5: Go Marzen 64. The level is a literal war zone, with Clancers (the alien race from the planet you’re on) shooting and throwing shruiken at you. There’s even one in a little tank!
At the end of the level, Marina (the protagonist) fights the boss of the level, Marzen 64. He is riding in a robot to fight you, and this robot eventually gets destroyed. After the robot is destroyed, Marzen 64 just stands there, wincing in pain, until you beat him up enough to kill him. He doesn’t attack anymore or resist in any way.
I remember feeling sorry for Marzen 64 when I was a kid and not liking the fact that you kill him when he won’t fight anymore. Sure, he kidnapped Professor Theo, but now, he’s helpless.
There is no option to spare him - you have to kill him to complete the level.
As an adult, I now realize that - in that war zone - Marina most likely committed a war crime. It’s still an upsetting part to me in an otherwise amusing game, although a bit less so.
