It's canon, I believe. After their confusing and apprehensive friends-to-lovers involvement ended in their early 20's, their paths end up crossing again unexpectedly in their mid 30's and things gradually grow from there.

betrothal au is so funny actually. jay & cole are still beefing because of the love triangle, except cole has been engaged to skylor the whole time. chen made sure that cole and skylor's rooms are next to each other so kai has to look to the balcony on the other side of cole's to make googoo eyes at skylor. skylor unintentionally cracks kai's egg. kai sees cole and skylor doing a lil waltz in the courtyard one night and immediately joins jay in giving cole the stinkeye over lunch. chen sees cole and skylor sneaking off and gets one of his underlings to play romantic music in whatever room they go to. clouse suggests just using a love potion to ensure cole turns against the ninja but chen wants that to happen organically because he thinks it's funny/more satisfying. cole and skylor make up stupid pet names that make no sense. soap opera level drama. chen going all bridezilla for what should be his daughter's special day, bc he's chen.

Always with the hornets' nests with these ones, I see! Though i don't think there's a fandom out there that isn't in some way a hornets' nest once it gets large enough... hm. Alright. I'm just gonna be as honest as i can be about this, and tag accordingly.

Glee:

my favourite female character: augh. argh. ouph. so difficult. so hard. Since I'm working off of half-remembered show and half recently-rewatched show... its a tossup. Mercedes, Santana, Quinn. Probably Mercedes. She did nothing wrong ever in her entire life <3 well okay maybe except that one time she smashed kurt's car windows (but it was a banger song, though). Can't say Santana because of the Biphobia TM and other things like excessive use of bigotry-based insults, and Quinn. Oh god girl. Cheating is not cool! Funnily enough! So I find them really interesting but 'favourite' is hard to say. Mercedes. Mercedes for sure <3

my favourite male character: Blaine sam blaine sam blaine sam yes. I am imitating ripping petals off of flowers and coming to a conclusion based on which is the last name i said. So I guess that means Sam! But really this is a tie.

my favourite book/season/etc: Mannnnn idk. I don't like shows for seasons as-a-whole. Also i could not tell you what happened in any given season if you held a gun to my head. I'm not good at that. The only shows i know 'seasons' of are Buffy and Teen Wolf because i've watched them like 100000000000 times (exaggeration) for various reasons (mostly fanfiction research).

my favourite episode (if its a tv show): I can tell you my LEAST favourite episode (blame it on the alcohol, thank you Kurt king of biphobia! this is a persona foible it's not the worst episode in the show. by far. by far. it's kind of an average one. I'm just angry at it.) BUT er. Favourite? Idk. Genuinely some of the earlier Kurt-centric stuff was really well done (his convo with Burt... <3) and the Quinn giving birth accompanied by bohemian rhapsody was obviously iconic, but if I'll be honest I couldn't name any episodes of this show (other than That One previously stated, anyway). And yeah most of the time they were named after song titles and No i don't remember those song titles either. I'm just so bad at this. My memory is that of a goldfish's being haphazardly bounced around on a sieve.

my favourite cast member: it would be really funny if I said Demi Lovato [she counts!] but the truth is N/A: i don't know these people !!! They are strangers!! (i don't. follow celebrities. at all. I couldn't even name most of them. They're just people doing a job and their lives are irrelevant to me beyond their ability to perform that job well. I do not need to know where they live and what coffee they drink. Stalker shit tbh. I'm kind of a very private person myself, so rpf-adjacent stuff just... creeps me out. I've never watched a single cast interview in my lifetime and I'm not about to start!)

my favourite ship: Difficult to say! Grave and obvious lie. Blam. It's blam. Quintana is a close runner up though Santana really needs to stop dating people who cheat on the regular (I'll accept Quinn has grown enough not to do this by the time a Quintana coupling would be viable - and satisfying in terms of character arcs - narratively speaking).

a character I’d die defending: Blaine Anderson did something wrong for sure but like Kurt did it first so shrugs. Cancels out. Bad for each other! Case closed!

a character I just can’t sympathize with: genuinely don't remember if I had one of those the first time around because I was like 10 and just didn't pay attention if I didn't care, but Terri and her racist self take that 'prize' this time, alongside the obvious predator in the room [original choir teacher. Sandy? I forget his name immediately after hearing it. He doesn't deserve to be remembered]. Also JBI is just.... a yikes character all around. I mean, he's a blatant stereotype for one, in a the people who wrote this person don't like jews kind of way. Unfortunately common stereotype too, for the era, so not only is he that, he's also lazy. Just a one-note pervert who's the butt of various antisemitic 'jokes' you've heard from era-peer shows a million times over, tired and awful and a sour reminder of bigotry that continues to this day. Really regrettable character who's lack of redeeming qualities was probably purposeful. (I know Rachel and tina are also jewish, but this comes up very rarely and mostly only when santana needs to say something kind of fucked up, as is her modus operandi, for 'comic relief'. Tina's jewish-ness wasn't even canon for several seasons, because she didn't have a surname or a family or anything resembling complex character depth for several seasons. The one time I really remember Rachel's religion being important was when she was pressuring Kurt into believing in some kind of god, which??? don't do that. Bad example. Trying to guilt trip a friend into faith sucks. I take back what i said earlier Mercedes did that too. Boo. Girls try again that was a bad showing all around. Though i have no idea why Kurt went the acupuncture route as his 'secular' option but i think that has to do a lot with the writers doing literally no research ever once in their lives (you can tell they don't by the way they write the football segments of the show, which make no sense according to football fans who watch Glee, of which there are numerous because real life isn't like fiction where you can only like music or sports. Most of the kids in my school year were doing the most of everything ever if they were the 'popular' ones - we do that differently; popularity isn't really based on who know know; for some bizzare reason literally everyone knew who I was? Even people I'd never spoken to?? - but more about like... how much you can do, I guess. Overachievers, but I'm not saying that negatively; these people were generally - generally - very nice, and surprisingly chill for people who had no spare time whatsoever. I'm not entirely sure when they slept; A* across the board, at least one sport, at least one instrument, several extracurriculars, parties every weekend, dozens of friends and an s.o. . Eh? Way too much going on. Scary lifestyle! Impressive burnout rate, probably. Er. Tangent! Back to the scheduled programming).) There's uhhhh there's a lot of bad characters on the show, but i'd say Sandy and Terri and her equally but more loudly racist sister are truly completely irredeemable ones. Like they're not interesting or anything, they're just there to be narrative annoyances (which, in the case of Sandy specifically, is insane. Arrest that man!!! He has actively sexually assaulted minors!!!).

a character I grew to love: difficult to say because I tend to just make an opinion and stick to it. Also i don't remember who i liked at first and who i didn't, this show came out when i was eight. I didn't watch it until I was a little older than that, of course, but I frankly have spotty memory until my late teens, so! I'm not sure!! Quinn, probably. Pink-hair-era Quinn helped me understand her more, and seeing the moments of kindness hidden behind practical cruelty, when you understand her family and situation, makes things make a lot more sense. It takes a lot to get me to sympathise with a cheater, but I can see where Quinn was getting all turned around in her head about life because of her upbringing and socialisation, not to mention the profoundly negative impact cheerios had on her mentally and that the school's culture in general was not exactly a breeding ground for empathy and optimism.

my anti otp: can you tell (klaine). I don't dislike Kurt!!! Please let him have a fun chillaxed boyfriend in new york with his vogue friends. But also please stop attempting to control other people's diets thank you!! Thank you!! I'm of mixed feelings. Blaine and Kurt both did at least one bad, relationship-ending thing, and proved over and over again that they just weren't on the same wavelength in regards to life goals and ways of living it. They can't even share the same living space, which is kind of required for a functional marriage. I don't know, it just seems like they settled for their first proper, serious boyfriend even if that's not really the best match, and I... wish they'd just got to see more of life first, you know? They got married at like 20! Or something! I'm 23, I cannot imagine getting married at 20. That's a baby. Let them live first!

(same for Santana and Brittney, imo. I also don't really like them together because Santana and Brittney have very different ideas regarding monogamy, which is just never going to go down well in the long run. If your girl cheats on you like twenty times and tells you to your face its not cheating in her view of things, but you think it is, break up with her because you'll just make each other miserable. Brittney sort of seems incapable of feeling guilt but if she were, this kind of moral pressure would be Not Good, and obviously Santana isn't comfortable with the idea and doesn't have to be!! Just move on!!! Find other people!!!! Don't marry your first girlfriend if you've broken up like ten times this is simple!!!! Please!!!! But Klaine wins out over Brittana because - in my opinion, glee fandom please do not persecute me, I am known for this specific thing - I see... interactions that verge on abusive between Klaine that I don't see in Brittana. So. Oof? Ex; use of public perception to disguise attack; deliberately hurting Blaine in a stage-combat fencing match (you are not meant to make actual contact in these) and thus using Blaine's own dislike of making his difficulties common knowledge against him in order to 'punish' him. This is no good! Don't do this!!.[Also just to err vaguepost about a comment.... that is. not. what i would call passive aggressive. Physically attacking someone with a sword - no matter the type of sword, fencing foils hurt just as much, they're just not stab-you sharp... er, these days - is just straight-up aggressive.]).

Note that negative things stick in the mind better than positive ones; on a rewatch I may well alter my opinion!

Charles tries a thing – a joke, really. Carlos sees right through it. Alocasia does, too.

Charles has a plan.

Well, he has half of a plan. Actually, he has no plan at all, but his dimples and eyes have been known to be razor-sharp weapons, as is the tiny child he has bundled in his arms.

Speaking of the tiny child, Charles peers over his tiny baby. She is the cutest baby in the entire world and Charles knows this because he has told this to the entire world and in classic Tifosi fashion they had all agreed with him, despite never seeing her very cute face much to Carlos' firm boundaries.

Which brings him back to the point of the matter. Alocasia had come nearly three months too early which had led to Charles screaming bloody murder in the delivery room and saying some not-very-nice things to Carlos while also crushing the bones in not one but both of his hands, rendering him quite useless for work for quite a while, and while Charles had taken a vindictive pleasure in it, Carlos hadn't even remotely agreed with the sentiment.

And, yes, shortly after all of that Charles had started to feel a little bad. If it was because they had fallen out of their dating-not-dating stage into a period of co-existing and co-parenting their daughter instead. Alocasia is very, very cute and a very, very good distraction but it's been months and Charles has never exactly been known to be patient.

So. He has a plan that will come into being as soon as Carlos walks through the big white doors of the house he had built (built!) for them and Alocasia.

It will. It definitely will. It's how most things go, really. There's nothing in Charles' brain until there is. And it's (usually) a good plan, really. One can hope.

And the door does open, and Carlos does walk in. But the idea does not come, and now might be the time for Charles to start feeling a little panicked. "How was, um," he starts, pretending he's in the mood for good conversation, "work?"

Carlos grunts mildly in response, shrugging off his coat and draping it neatly over the back of a chair, in heavy contrast to Charles and Alocasia's clothes strewn all around the room, tossed haphazardly over the couch and piled on the counter. "Ran into Fernando," he says, a soft smile spreading over his face as he approaches Alocasia (and additionally, Charles). "Hi, baby," he coos, making her cute little face scrunch up in laughter. "He asked me how Alo is doing."

"I tried to convince him the other day Alo is not for Alonso," Charles grumbles, thoroughly melting at the sight of father-daughter bonding. "He is not-- he will not believe me."

"But Alo is for Alonso," Carlos points out, lifting Alocasia out of his arms, and grinning at her shriek of answering laughter. But then he frowns slightly, turning back to Charles in confusion. Alocasia seems to be judging him with her father and Charles is suddenly feeling very cornered. "When did you meet with Fernando?"

Charles' neck and face heats up a little, and he turns away back to his laptop in an attempt to escape. "I have emails."

Carlos slams the lid of his laptop shut, ignoring Charles' indignant yelp, holding Alocasia with the arm that's not on his hip in judgment. "You're supposed to be resting, you know. You're lucky I let you–"

"You let me?"

"You know what I mean."

Charles pretends to frown, feigning offence. "I only live with you. She's my daughter. You don't get to let me do anything."

Yes, maybe Charles is grasping at straws here, but Carlos seems to fall for it pretty easily, so he must be doing something correctly. "Charles, I– wait, no," he stops himself, and Charles curses himself internally. "When did you leave the house, Charles? This close to your–"

"I didn't even go that far," he mutters. "I went to see Pierre. He showed up with Fernando. They are terrorising Esteban together or something, I guess."

Carlos' palm is warm on the small of his back. "Next time you want to leave you tell me, or at least text me or something." He sounds sad, and Charles feels the guilt of the past few months pressing down on him like a weight. "You know I worry. About Alo but about you, too." His hand inches more and more around Charles, tentative in its journey. "I never stopped worrying."

God. It's a stupid plan, really.

"I want to retire," he blurts out.

Alocasia babbles, hitting her tiny ineffectual fists on Carlos' chest and Charles takes her back, letting her nibble on his fingertips. Carlos' hand falls from around him and lets out a heavy groan. "I thought it was something serious, joder, Charles!"

"What, I'm serious!"

"No you're fucking not," Carlos tells him exasperatedly, his eyes flickering unmistakably towards their calendar.

Now it's Charles' turn to complain. "Come on! It's in a week! I even took suppressants because that stupid doctor you hired can't speak English!"

"She speaks better English than you!"

"You think you speak better English than me," Charles huffs. "And that is a lie, Carlos. It is not the truth which means it is a lie."

"You know she speaks Spanish," he replies crossly. "Papa is being annoying, no, Alo?" Carlos asks, tickling her stomach. "Isn't he? Isn't he the most annoying?"

"I never should have you let name her," he complains. "I should have known you'd name her after your stupid idol."

Carlos just snickers at him. "And you would name her what? Senna?"

Charles' tone turns quiet. "I wanted to name her Jules," he says.

Silence falls, but it's not uncomfortable, so to speak. It never really is. "We have alocasias all over the house. It's her name."

"Of course it's her name," Charles says quietly. "The next one can be Jules."

"Next one?" Carlos wonders out loud, but doesn't make a further comment. Charles is thankful for it. He knows they're hardly getting by with just one, as cute as she is. "So you're okay?"

Charles shrugs. He was never really too bothered to begin with. It wasn't like he had totally rejected the name prior to her birth, and Carlos was right, anyway. It was her name. "Wedding wouldn't hurt," he says, mostly as a joke. He doesn't actually want to get married. Probably. He thinks.

But Carlos' expression changes, as if he's holding something back, a weirdly smug smile on his face. "Can I?" he asks, referring to Alo, and Charles hands her off to him, confused. "Come, Alo, present for Papa, let's go find it."

Charles follows them after a moment, nearly tripping in his haste to go after them. "Where are we going?"

"Do you think Papa will like it?" Carlos says, still talking to her. "Hm, do you? Do you?"

Charles follows him to the bedroom, confusion growing and Carlos opens a drawer and starts rummaging. "Where did I put it, querida? You remember when I showed you? Didn't you like it, Alo?"

"Like what?" Charles asks, desperately confused.

Carlos ignores him. Goddamnit he is infuriating. Charles could never survive being married to him right? "Ah found it," Carlos is saying and then passing Alocasia back to him. "Now you hold her."

"What's going o–" he starts but then his mouth falls open because Carlos is on one knee and–

"Marry me," Carlos says, and he's grinning so wide his eyes are getting crinkly. "You always say you hate it when I talk for so long for no reason. So. I'm just going to--"

"You're doing it again."

"Joder," he replies, but it's teasing, and Charles knows his stupid smile is probably reflected in his own. "Marry me?"

The second time is shy, less sure, more Carlos. Alocasia giggles happily in his arms, and of course of course of course they would have a proposal like this. They'll probably elope, too. Charles can see the pictures already. "Charles," Carlos says, breaking his train of thought, in that soft ill pronounced way of his. "Marry me."

Third time is the charm, he remembers Arthur telling him a few years ago. Carlos is a little pleading, now, even though they both already know the answer.

"I thought we were already married," Charles says instead, referring to the time before Zandvoort in 2022, the pact they'd made, both tipsy but both equally serious. God. It seems so long ago and yet not at all.

["Mate, this is like a marriage contract," Charles realises, entirely too giggly for his liking. Carlos seems to enjoy it, though. He's only ever seen two marriage contracts before, his parents' and one of his friend's. But the memories are clear in his mind. "Are we getting married?"

Carlos looks at him like he's hung the stars, and this is dangerous. They both know it. "Yes. Sure."]

"Let's make it real."

Charles rolls his eyes, hauling Carlos off the floor. "You'll ruin your knees," he mutters, smoothing down his shirt. He pretends the great big ball of warmth in his chest isn't burning him from the inside. "Yes, of course," he adds quietly, and he didn't think Carlos' smile could get any bigger, but.

Carlos cheers and suddenly the floor vanishes from underneath Charles, and he makes a strangled noise as he's lifted into the air. Alo seems to enjoy being smushed in the middle of them, shrieking happily in that adorable way of hers, Carlos attacking his face with feather-light kisses.

Well, Charles did say he had a plan.

hey pasta! I don’t know if someone has asked this already but is TRT gonna go into Born Again or end at season 3?

So that's where I'm not sure! The current outline is as such:

All Major Arcs (including Cyrus James/Project Beagle fallout arc and psychic abilities arcs): scheduled to wrap up a bit after the end of S3 so that Matt and Jane's arcs/development neatly dovetail together. This will mark the official end of TRT's main fic.

Special Additional Arcs (chaptered fics not attached to main fic but still TRT canon, taking place after end of main fic) in no particular order: Endgame/The Snap arc, Spider-Man: NWH arc, Spoiler Removed arc, tentative She Hulk Shenanigans arc.

Oneshot Arcs: various domestic fluff arcs, interactions with major MCU events, a 'What Their Life Is Like When Old Cause GD It They're Going To Live To Old Age And Will Have Rocking Chairs' arc, a SINGLE take it or leave it 'What If?' fic of something funny with a possible daughter cause damn I had this idea for a hilarious scene and it won't leave me alone

Now, those are what are planned in the outline, and the main event with Project Beagle tie-ins and plotlines and all of that is something I'm still planning to end just after S3 because I really do want to have a finish line for that, and I feel like dragging that all out for Born Again wouldn't work for the... events that are going to happen, without saying too much. Once that's wrapped up, that's when you're going to see TRT finally marked as 'complete' on AO3, though there'll be more fics set in that universe (see special additional arcs and oneshot arcs) that I'll mark as in the Devil and Hound series along with drabbles on tumblr.

Once we're past that official endpoint and those special arcs, though, things get fluid and murky since when I was outlining all the major plotlines, there was no Daredevil: Born Again, nor was Matt even in the MCU officially (which is why Spider-Man pops in way sooner in TRT than he meets Matt in the MCU) and I specifically set up Jane's plotline to bookend with Matt's so their growth twined together and they both finally found peace around the same time. Outside that, I'd planned some shorter chaptered stories in the series post-mainline TRT like the Snap arc that I may now adjust (since it sure is looking like Matt was left behind for the snap) but nothing on the level of TRT's main plotline which is absolutely massive and took me years to fully outline and construct before coming back from hiatus in 2021 and pumping out chapters (Happy six year anniversary to TRT on Sept 15!).

ALL THAT BEING SAID.

I do have plans to write stuff for TRT's take on Born Again because I'm 100% married to writing for Matt at this point and there's no possible way I won't want to do something once I'm being fed Charlie!Matt scenes again. I'm not sure what those plans are just yet - I kinda wanna wait and see what happens in Born Again in case it sparks something. But I also want to make sure that no matter what I do, there's some sort of strong original plotline so that, much like mainline TRT, we'll be able to weave in and out of canonical events (especially since things like the Snap or a wedding or Jane and Matt's friendship with Peter will alter canon). I don't think I'm going to do something quite as huge as TRT's main plotline again, mostly because it takes a TON of time and work, and I'm planning to take the original TRT elements and morph them into an original series fit for publishing (different enough that I can leave TRT up for everyone to read, cause at this point the fic's part of DD fandom culture and I have no plans to take that away) which will also take a ton of time. But I'm definitely rattling my brain around, looking at different plotlines I could do knowing what I know about the ending, hunting for loose ends or canonical threads that I can weave in with TRT's world and create something new!

Then again, I never would have said I'd make something as massive as TRT before I started, either, so who knows.

So in short: YES, there will be TRT events for Born Again even if it's not as elaborate as TRT! I just have no idea what those will be yet. Fortunately, TRT mainline's only a little over halfway done so I've got time to plan!

Ghost Adoption - Ghost Marriage but twisted with Beta! Idia?!

[Based on Yana’s tweet of how Idia was originally supposed to be a child prodigy who skipped grades]

So what if instead of Eliza being a princess looking for true love, she was a queen whose son was missing before she died? Perhaps over the years, she was still struck with grief. She saw Idia, and convinced that must be her long lost son because of his ghostly appearance.

The rest of the NRC gang reluctantly agree to rescue Idia because no matter how bratty he could be, he was still a child. (This is assuming Ortho isn’t with Beta! Idia??)

Instead of the tallest boys going up to Eliza, it’s the shortest boys that go first! They try to appeal to Eliza by acting cute and childish, to try to convince her that they are her real son. When the plan to send in the shortest/most childish boys fail, they try a different tactic to trick Eliza by using the excuse of her son growing up and maturing without her. Eliza still clings to Idia, because she’s more attached to the memories and idea of her younger son, than the relevancy of age and logic.

How would the event end? It is later revealed one of the ghosts is Eliza’s true missing son, after he realizes how much Eliza mourned for him and felt guilty.

Ghost Marriage cast gets switched up!

Riddle got booted for being extremely stiff and has difficulties appeasing Eliza; he doesn’t know how to respond to Eliza’s test of affection, since he never received much love from his own mother.

Epel got booted right off the bat. He lost his shit when Eliza said, “I lost a son, not a daughter! Is this a joke?”

Ace got booted because when Eliza tested him on his “memories with her”, he answered incorrectly.

Rook got booted for being too sentimental. Eliza would probably say something along the lines of “If you longed for your mother so much, then why did you never come back?”

Camille watched a series of bottles shift between Kody’s hands; once the green liquid from one vial had been drained into another, thicker, clear substance, Kody would reach for another, his expression not changing past the subtle twice of his nose as the scents mingled. The green itself spread and fell slowly, as if he had just dropped liquid food dye into watery corn syrup.

“Don’t hesitate,” Camille reminded him, her palm pressed to her cheek. “If you do, it’s going to end up tasting acidic.”

Kody huffed in response, his hands lingering over another tube held in a small wooden rack. “Don’t distract me.”

“You’re stalling.”

“Because you’re distracting me.”

A quiet hum of acknowledgment mingled with amusement caught behind Camille’s now-closed lips as she watched him continue, now more focused than before as he slowly poured half of the liquid in with the mixture.

“What, you’re not gonna get onto me for using too much or too little?” As he spoke, Kody’s bitter gaze flickered up long enough to glance at the other. He slowly reached out for the stirring stick, eyes stuck on Camille as he pulled it closer. “Or you’re not gonna tell me to be careful about how I stir it?”

“Nope, not yet. I’m just waiting and watching now.” Camille smiled a bit, watching as he stirred slowly, almost meticulously. His focus had seemed to double after he grew quiet. “What happened to me not distracting you?”

“If I’m just complaining about you, then I’m not getting distracted. But if you’re interrupting me, then I’m gonna lose focus. How long does this even need to be stirred?”

“Didn’t you read the note I left you?”

“I can’t read Terranian yet, and you left it in Terranian.”

Camille could feel her smile break as he reminded her—though, the only actual change on her expression was a subtle twitch of her lips. Her brain went blank, the only word crossing her mind for a moment being ‘shit’ as she stared at the boy now working silently across from her.

That’s right, you and Sera couldn’t talk at all when you first met her.

“How did you follow the instructions up until now?”

“Eyeballed it. I made something similar before, so, it’s not like it’s a big deal. Plus, it’s not like I even asked you to actually write instructions down for me—I just asked if you had the ingredients.”

“Given how Lumine has talked about how you make your potions… That’s not really reassuring.”

“I knew what I was doing then, too.”

“Did you?”

Kody grew quiet, pulling the stick out as he transferred the syrup-consistency potion into another glass bottle and seal it.

“I didn’t know how it was actually going to react with him, but I knew it wouldn’t kill him. I knew what I put in it, and that nothing in it would mix badly together to be that bad.”

“M-hm. At least there’s that, I guess.”

“I know what I’m doing.”

Feels like there should be a ‘usually’ there, Camille said silently, watching Kody put the vial aside and seal the remaining ingredients. You’ve got a long way to go, but. That doesn’t mean you haven’t studied hard already.

“I’ll clean everything up, too. So. Don’t worry about me making things more of a mess than they already are.”

“Don’t worry about it, I’ll get it before I go out today.” Camille waved her hand, watching as Kody pushed himself up. He gathered the emptied and now-dirtied dishes and tools and took them towards the small kitchen. “If you’re going to try and clean up anyway, just drop them off in the sink that’s not by the fridge. It’s the one that’s for anything that isn’t a fruit or vegetable. Potions, meat, whatever.”

“Alright.” Kody did as she instructed, now without any complaint or push-back, and then sat back down across from her. He picked the potion’s bottle back up and held it up to the light, his eyes flickering back and forth through the liquid that almost matched his eye color as he inspected it. “Is it really safe to wash potion bottles next to where you prep meat, though?”

“I mean, nothing I work with in here is toxic. And if it is, then the bottle just gets disposed of.” Camille shrugged, watching him closely. He seemed, at the very least, pleased with the mixture’s consistency and color. “So, what made you want to make something for pain? Everything okay?”

“You’ve been complaining about headaches a lot lately, and clearly, you’re not going to do anything about it yourself.”

Camille felt her smile shatter once again, her lips now fully turning into a frown. “You really noticed that, huh?”

“Lumine did, too. He actually overheard you mention it first.”

“Sera?”

“You actually don’t say anything about it around her, I don’t know if you’re just like. Worried about worrying her or something, but. You don’t even really say it to us, you just kind of say it to yourself and keep doing whatever it is you’re doing.”

Camille dragged her hand down her face as she leaned harder into the back of her chair. “Aghhh. I didn’t even notice.”

“Yeah, well. It’s getting on my nerves, so try this. It’s cool enough now.” He held the bottle out to her, their green eyes meeting as her attention redirected back towards him.

Getting on your nerves? Is that just your way of saying you worry, in this case? Camille hid her smile, eyes meeting his for a brief moment.

She took the bottle from his hands, much smaller than her own, the glass still subtly warm—partially from the mixture, partially from his own hands. “So, you actually sat down and made this for me?”

“Hopefully it’s not too acidic from you distracting me.”

Judging by his half-smirk, it was less of a concern, and more of a facetious comment. Something to poke and prod at her.

She couldn’t help but smile a bit more, seeing how confident he was. How sure he was that, even though she distracted him so much by talking to him, it would still be alright. Even if he silently struggled with it on most days, she always tried to take the moments that he was so sure of himself in good spirits.

“Ha. Even if it was, I’ve definitely had worse than something that’s a little bit acidic. I’ve probably had coffee worse than it, honestly.” She opened it, sniffed, and hen downed it as quickly as possible. If it was actually acidic, she would—hopefully—not even notice. If anything, it would likely feel no worse than mild heartburn—and at worse, severe heartburn.

“Well, was it?”

She waited for a moment, expecting an aftertaste of… Something. Bitterness. Something akin to bile. An incorrect texture from overmixing, adding one ingredient too soon, overheating it, letting it get too cool during the cooking process rather than letting it cool after, something.

But it was no different from what she would have made herself for a patient. Slightly sweet, a bit sticky—it would definitely feel better if she had chased it down with warm water or something else. But it was, actually, up to her standards.

“Not at all, actually.” She said, twisting the neck of the bottle in her fingers. “That was good work, Kody.”

“Yeah? Told you I knew what I was doing. Hope it helps, it’ll probably take a little bit, but.”
