Just An Ordinary Girl
A love square remix of A Friend Like That by @trainsinanime. Written for the @mlsquaredance. This fic was so much fun write. Do please read the original first. It makes this one more fun! Read on Ao3 ...
“We need to stay together!” Viperion called out. “Splitting up does not end well.”
The sheer exhaustion in Viperion’s tone didn’t bode well either. Carapace didn’t want to know how many loops Viperion had gone through this go around especially considering it was his third time loop this battle.
Even from Carapace’s less than fifteen minutes of experience, this battle was awful.
The akuma was like Miraculer - he could steal their powers. But he was worse because it could split into four clones of himself.
“Okay then!” Chat Noir called. “Ryuko, Rena, and Carapace, protect our backs. Tigress and I will guard the gap! Viperion stays in the middle.”
Carapace missed Ladybug. There was nothing wrong with Chat’s orders. Carapace didn’t disagree with any of his calls. This akuma just sucked. And Ladybug just had this insane creative genius for hare-brained schemes that seemed to be able to cut through anything.
The akuma struck. Carapace narrowly yanked Rena Rouge aside and they both fell to the ground hard. His elbow took the majority of the impact, which hurt like a bitch, but he was glad it was him who took the brunt of it instead of her. And it worked.
Except one of the other clones clipped him.
A mud brown impenetrable dome manifested around all six of them immediately.
Purple Tigress punched it with her power. Nothing.
Cataclysm dissolved it, but it was immediately replaced with another.
“Crap!”
That was one word for it. Carapace might have had a far less kid-friendly one ringing through his head. The six of them were getting their butts handed to them by this akuma.
Carapace took personal offense to the barrier that stood as a mockery of his own power.
“Viperion?” Chat called.
The snake hero shook his head. “We’re on loop number 1703. This is the best possible outcome. Trust me.”
Chat Noir winced.
Carapace really missed Ladybug.
“I think we have to call Ladybug,” Rena Rouge said, turning toward Chat Noir.
“No! We can’t!” Chat objected.
Rena raised an eyebrow. “We can’t let the akuma win. We’re trapped.”
“She only asked for one weekend off! She deserves to have one weekend off! We can handle it.”
“I hate to break it to you, but we’re not handling it,” Ryuko added dryly.
“We will not be calling Ladybug,” Chat declared firmly.
The other five of them exchanged a look.
“We can get help from someone else!” Chat insisted.
“Like who?” Rena Rouge demanded. “You’d need someone who is willing to pull off crazy stunts, who is a tactical creative genius against so many, and someone who is not intimidated by akumas.”
“Marinette!” Chat exclaimed, his face lit up in excitement.
“How do you know Marinette?” Ryuko asked, her eyebrows furrowed together.
“You think Marinette can do what six fully equipped superheroes couldn’t?!” Carapace asked.
Rena’s eyes narrowed. “Why Marinette?”
“Are you kidding? Marinette could kick any one of our asses,” Chat said. “Marinette is the only person I know who has gone up against an akuma as a civilian.”
Seriously?! Did the cat have selective memory? But it wasn’t like Carapace could remind everyone that Nino had gone up against Anansi as a civilian.
Of course, he had lost, but that wasn’t the point.
“You’re crazy,” he said instead, crossing his arms.
“I’m in.” Rena said.
“What?!” Carapace turned to her in shock, feeling more than a bit betrayed.
Viperion and Ryuko nodded in agreement as well.
Was everyone insane? He turned to Rena. “You’re going along with this? You’d throw Marinette—“ her best friend went unsaid, but Rena understood what he was saying. “—out there unsupported against an akuma?”
His girlfriend shrugged. She shrugged . “If Ladybug’s not an option. Marinette is the next best thing.”
Carapace stared at her incredulously.
Chat clapped his hands together, clearly pleased with this so-called solution. “I’ll call her!”
“You have her number?” Carapace asked. What the actual fuck?
But obviously he did because he had the cat phone to his ear and it was audibly ringing. “Hey princess!” Chat greeted enthusiastically, turning away from the group like it was a private conversation.
“Princess?” Carapace echoed. What kind of relationship did Chat Noir and Marinette have?
“No.” Marinette’s firm voice echoed throughout the dome.
“I haven’t even asked for anything yet.”
“The answer is still no! I only have twelve hours before this project is due. I cannot take a break.”
“But Paris needs you.”
“The answer is no. Call someone else! Call Ladybug!”
“No! Marinette! I can’t! Last week was terrible for her. I promised I could handle one weekend. She deserves and needs the time off. Plus, we don’t need her. I know you can do this. You can do anything . Remember Kwamibuster?”
Chat Noir spoke to Marinette like he was trying to sweet talk her. Carapace didn’t like it. Chat had always been flirtatious, and Marinette deserved someone loyal and sincere.
Someone like Adrien.
“What do you expect me to do against an akuma without a miraculous?” Marinette asked.
“Whatever it is you did against Evilustrator and Hack-san.”
“I can’t do this. Not today.”
Chat only grinned at her refusal. “You always say that, and then you do it anyway.”
“What do I get out of this?”
“Your friends and family safe and sound, free to feel their own feelings and pursue their own dreams.”
Marinette groaned. “Chaaaat!” she whined. “You’re gonna owe me so much for this.”
“See you soon, Princess!” Chat sing-songed, and turned his attention back to the group. “She’s on her way.”
As if that solved all their problems.
“Shouldn’t we… I don’t know… come up with a back up plan?” Carapace asked.
Purple Tigress looked at the other four expectantly, as if agreeing with him, but the others just exchanged glances and shrugged. They honestly thought Marinette was the solution.
Carapace really hoped they were right. Marinette was amazing, but did that mean she could get through an akuma that Viperion had just spent who knew how many weeks fighting unsuccessfully across three time loops?
“You don’t need to worry so much,” Chat Noir assured, and it was galling that Chat Noir could read him so well.
“How can you be so confident? Aren’t you worried about her at all?”
“Marinette would kick my ass into next Sunday if I worried about her. She can take care of herself, and she knows what she can handle and what she can’t. I’ve learned over and over again not to underestimate her. Kwamibuster was an akuma where Ladybug and I both lost our Kwamis, and therefore our transformations. Marinette pulled off a stunt the old Guardian thought was impossible with all the remaining miraculouses using the mouse to protect her own psyche. She was brilliant.”
“But she doesn’t have an entire box right now.”
“She doesn’t need an entire box. She defeated Hack-San without any powers at all. Her super power is in how she thinks!”
Carapace held his hands up. “I know firsthand that she’s brilliant. I’m just scared for her too. That akuma handed our asses to us.”
“She’s doing fine,” Rena commented, projecting a video from her flute into the air for all of them to see.
Chat Noir flipped around the projected image, so he wouldn’t be seeing the mirror image like Nino from the back.
“Some girl just took out an akuma with a trash can and a fire hydrant,” Chat read aloud. “She ran off before anyone could thank her.”
In the video, Marinette hid in the trash can and when the akuma was overhead, she leapt out of her hiding place and tackled the clone onto the ground where the fire hydrant went off in its face. Marinette used the distraction to snatch the clone’s sash, and the thing dissolved underneath her. Then she was running away before the other three could grab her, her pigtails bobbing behind her.
Chat’s expression was completely besotted. “The way she lured him in like that?! She’s just amazing!” Then he turned toward Carapace triumphantly like a proud boyfriend. “See! She just has this way of cutting to the right idea at the right time! I could watch her working on a problem or project for hours!”
Did Chat Noir realize how he sounded?
And it wasn’t fair because Nino was certain that Adrien was finally starting to realize that he was crushing hard on Marinette.
What if Chat Noir got there first?
“You think she’ll clear this up before sunset?” Purple Tigress asked.
“Why? Got somewhere else more important to be?” Viperion asked.
“Well, not more important . But something I’d like to do, yes.”
“A hot date?” Viperion teased.
“What’s it to you?” Purple Tigress growled back.
Viperion held his hands up in surrender. “Just teasing! You deserve to get to go on your date. Hopefully Marinette pulls through. She usually does.”
“I never said it was a date,” Tigress muttered. But clearly it was.
“I have another Marinette update,” Rena announced, playing another video from the Ladyblog’s fan submission page.
“This girl is insane!” the narrator exclaimed, his camera flashing toward two bungie cables dangling from the overhead railing with two suitcases attached on either end. “She set up a pulley system with two guys’ luggage and a plastic bag to set a trap for a friggin’ akuma and she won!” The video angled back to his face. “Where the hell are Ladybug and Chat Noir?”
“Wow! That’s super cool!” Tigress said, watching the video with wide eyes.
“That’s Marinette for you. She never sits out a fight when she can do something,” Chat said.
“You really like her, don’t you?” Ryuko asked, smiling fondly.
“Oh yeah, she’s absolutely amazing! Have you ever seen her designs?” His face was as bright as the moon as he spoke.
Carapace shook his head. Chat Noir didn’t just know about Marinette’s designs. He had seen them! Nino wondered again how much time Chat Noir spent with Marinette on the regular? Even Nino had only ever caught glimpses of her work and he was in almost all of Marinette’s classes.
“You know, even if Marinette manages to take out all four clones, how is she gonna break through this barrier?”
“She’ll figure it out,” Chat insisted. “She always does. I wish we had something in here to give her to show our appreciation.”
Rena smiled at him. “I’m sure she’ll know we appreciate her.”
“I just feel so bad for interrupting her project right before a deadline. I’ll have to make it up to her.”
Yeah, Chat Noir had it bad, which wasn’t good. Nino didn’t want him swooping in right before Adrien was finally seeing her.
“Ah! We have an update on the akuma,” Rena announced, projecting the post into the air again.
“My little girl almost got hit by an akuma! Luckily, this girl knocked it out of the park before it touched her at all. And then she stayed and danced until my girl was laughing again! What an absolute angel!”
“Wow!” Purple Tigress said. “Marinette’s usually so clumsy.”
But Chat was shaking his head. “Not during emergencies or akumas. Then she’s graceful. And yeah, she trips and stumbles constantly–” he was smiling fondly as he said this. “-- which can be really adorable, but she’s really good at catching herself! She kind of has this unique way of pinwheeling her arms to regain her balance. And her gestures are so creative and expressive… Honestly, I could spend hours just watching her.”
That description was remarkably specific. “Aren’t you supposed to be in love with Ladybug?” Carapace asked.
Chat turned to him, his eyebrows furrowed in total bafflement. “I am in love with Ladybug.”
Carapace crossed his arms. “Are you sure? Seems like you have a thing for Marinette.”
“Oh, he definitely has a thing for Marinette,” Rena interjected, studying the feed on her flute before flashing him a smirk. “But then who doesn’t?”
“Right?!” Viperion chimed in.
Even Ryuko was nodding. “I admit I hold more than a passing affection for Marinette as well.”
Carapace hated that he couldn’t even argue. He had harbored a crush on Marinette for months . But he buried his hooded face in his hands anyway. This was ridiculous.
“I don’t have a thing for Marinette!” Chat objected.
“God! You’re worse than my best bro!”
“What does that mean?”
“You’re totally oblivious.”
And Nino hoped it stayed that way at least until Adrien had a chance to say something.
“No, you don’t understand. I can’t have a thing for Marinette! She’s in love with someone else. You should have heard her confession!”
“She confessed?!”
“She practiced it anyway. It was silly at first, but then just so sincere. I wish someone would confess to me like that.”
Chat’s shoulders were slumped, and his gaze downcast. Carapace stared at a dejected Chat in disbelief. Did Chat Noir really not get that he had feelings for Marinette?
Chat looked up straight at Carapace. “Do you think anyone will ever love me like that?”
Nino froze. Chat Noir, one of the two primary heroes of Paris who pranced around in a catsuit and flirted with every other person he encountered, was looking to him for reassurance?!
Today was just absolutely wild.
“I’m sure there’s someone out there for you, dude,” Carapace reassured.
There was a loud bang, and they all tensed, flipped around facing the barrier read to fight.
But the dome just faded away. Marinette stood on the other side, holding out a clear glass bottle with an akuma fluttering angrily inside.
Chat Noir plucked the bottle from her hold, smiling at her like she hung the moon. He released the akuma just far enough to cataclysm it.
“See! I knew you could do it.” His eyes were so soft, he could give Adrien a run for his money.
Marinette scowled at him, crossing her arms. “You know who else could have done it? Ladybug!! She has actual powers! Do you know how hard it was to go after an akuma without enhanced agility?”
Chat took her hand. “May I offer the princess a kiss in gratitude?”
“I think I’m the knight in this scenario,” she replies petulantly, but she didn’t pull away.
He pressed a lingering kiss onto her hand.
Marinette didn’t even blush. “You owe me bigtime!”
Chat nods. “Thank you for bailing me–” he gestured to all six of the present heroes, “–I mean, bailing all of us out.”
“Why’d you ask me? I’m just an ordinary girl.”
He shook his head. “There’s nothing ordinary about you, Marinette.” He said her name with absolute reverence.
Nino shook his head in exasperation. There was no way in hell Chat Noir wasn’t in love with Marinette. Nino would have to warn Adrien to get his game on. He had competition, even if he didn’t know it.
The other heroes surrounded her and offered thanks and congratulations. “Marinette! You are amazing!” Carapace told her. “Like you pulled off an impossible feat!” And then he bent down and whispered. “And I think if you’re not careful you’re going to break a certain black cat’s heart.”
Marinette’s brows furrowed. “What are you talking about? Chat’s way too obsessed with Ladybug to ever really see me.”

FIC: "Of Found Things and Mme. Stones" (MLB; Lukanette; LBSC Lukanette Month 2024)
@lovebugs-and-snakecharmers is doing a Lukanette Month for September 2024, and we all just kinda tossed some prompts in the disco to compile a list? We ended up with 71 prompts, so I decided I’d roll some dice to pick a prompt, do a twenty minute (ish, bc we all know sometimes they run away from me) sprint, and try to get some short fics out this month?
...who gave these fics the right to be a series? (They probably would have worked fine as chapters, but too late now. 😂)
Read on Ao3
Prompt 07: Street/Craft Fair
The Ring
Marinette gently, quietly closed the door behind her, turning back for one last look at Luka before she went. She doubted the sound of the door closing would wake him: he had fallen asleep before they’d even made it up the stairs to their flat, and she’d had to hoist him over her shoulder and haul his lanky ass up four flights before reaching their front door. That would have been fine, except Carlos – their older neighbor who lived across the hall, who still hadn’t fully warmed up to Luka thanks to his dyed hair and tattoos – had been leaving his own flat, and he had barked out a laugh at the sight. Marinette had offered him a sheepish smile and tried to explain that it had been a really long couple of days, but Carlos just shook his head, patted Luka’s ass, and chuckled “Bienvenidos, mijo” on his way past.
Her idiot boy…fiancé had slept through the whole thing, which was a shame: it was the closest to approval he’d probably ever get from the old man.
(Carlos did adore him – about as much as his wife Manuela – but he still loved to give Luka grief about his appearance and being a rock star. She supposed it was fine: Luka loved to give him grief about the amount of pizza he loved to eat.)
She had maneuvered Luka to their room as soon as she’d had their door open, and she’d dropped him on the mattress as gently as she could. Still, he had groaned and mumbled something incoherent before reaching for her, and she had almost slipped into the bed with him – except she did still have some work that needed done, and he needed his rest.
Neither would get accomplished if she crawled in after him, she thought as she closed the door. He was sprawled out in the center of their bed, her pillow hugged to his chest with his face buried in the damn thing, and that was exactly where he was going to stay until he actually slept.
…she could always wear him out again later.
. : .
Of course, as she would later learn, it had been a really long forty-eight hours leading up to the nine-hour flight from hell, and it was well into the next day before Luka actually stirred.
He had wandered his way out towards dinner time, but that had really only been to shuffle into the bathroom. He’d found her before heading back to bed – just long enough to bend her back over the (thankfully off) stove with a deep kiss – but that hardly counted. She still wasn’t sure he had actually been awake, no matter how thoroughly he’d kissed her.
He’d mumbled something incoherent when she’d climbed into bed that night, and she had barely had time to crawl under the covers before he’d wrapped himself around her. He hadn’t woken, though, and he still wasn’t awake when she slipped back out of bed the next morning.
If she hadn’t been dealing with Couffaine sleeping habits for almost ten years now (first at sleepovers with Juleka and later with him), she might have worried. But as long as he was still breathing, she figured he was fine and let him sleep.
Penny showed up at their front door early the next morning. Marinette was still wearing her dressing gown when she knocked, her first cup of coffee still in hand.
“Guess what wasn’t actually in Barcelona,” Penny said by way of greeting when Marinette opened the door. Her eyes widened as Penny patted the suitcase beside her. “It was mislabeled and about to head to Hong Kong, but you’d be surprised how effective a crocodile can be in tracking down misplaced luggage.”
“Liar,” Marinette laughed, pulling her into a hug. “More like how effective Jagged Stone’s irate wife can be in getting anything done.”
“Well, that, too,” Penny laughed, patting her back. “But years of dealing with Fang doesn’t hurt. Has he calmed down yet?”
“He’s still sleeping,” Marinette said, and Penny’s eyebrows lifted. Marinette waved her in and wheeled the suitcase over to the dining area. She lifted it onto the table and opened it, rooting through the front pockets until she found…she grinned when her fingers brushed against a small box. “He was already exhausted, and losing this didn’t help.”
“Shouldn’t you let him find it first?” Penny asked, an eyebrow lifting as Marinette pulled the ring out and slipped it onto her finger. She held her hand up, her smile growing as she finally saw it. The pink opal burned just as brightly as it did in her memory. “I’m fairly certain he’s supposed to ask you before you start wearing it.
“Oh, he’s not getting this off my finger any time soon,” Marinette laughed, grinning at her. “If he wanted to surprise me, he shouldn’t have told me he lost it in the first place.”
“He was exhausted, Marinette,” Penny said, frowning. “He didn’t know what he was saying. You should give him this. Let him do this properly.”
She gave her a pointed look, and Marinette sighed as she looked back at her hand. She knew Penny was right, but…she really didn’t want to take it off. She liked how it looked – how it felt – there. Like it belonged.
…like she was always supposed to be Marinette Couffaine.
“Just for a little bit?” she asked, looking back at Penny. “I’ll put it back before he wakes up.”
Penny shook her head, but she was smiling as she laid an arm across Marinette’s shoulders and puled her into a half hug. She looked back at her hand, her smile warming as she studied the ring.
“It’s a lovely ring, Marinette,” she said. “Very…you.”
“Lay off,” Marinette giggled, nudging her side. She glanced down at Penny’s own hand, which sported a stone in the shape of a heart and the color of Penny’s hair. It was ringed by black stones on a gunmetal band – not at all traditional, but very rock-n-roll and very ‘Rolling-Stone’, if Jagged did say so himself. “Your ring is so much worse, and this is a family heirloom.”
“Really?” Penny asked, surprised. “I knew Gina gave it to him – she met us in Rome – but he didn’t tell me the story. I figured she had found it at some street fair or something. Some…sorry, but it really does look like cheap costume jewelry.”
“I’m not offended, but only because your ring does, too,” Marinette giggled, sticking her tongue out at her. She looked back at her nonna’s old ring, her smile softening. “I promise you it’s one hundred percent genuine. It was Nonna’s mother’s. Nonna was just a baby when the war started – barely a year old – and her family had to flee Italy before things got really bad. They didn’t make it back until Nonna was almost ten. This ring was the only thing of value her mother was able to bring with them.”
“It’s a beautiful ring, Marinette,” Penny said softly, and Marinette nodded. It was. A round, pink opal sat in the center of the ring, ringed by tiny diamonds and flanked on either side by flowers made of pink quartz. They were generic looking enough, but she had always liked to imagine they were cherry blossoms. The whole thing sat on a gold band, and it had captivated Marinette since she was a little girl.
“Nonna always called me her Little Fairy, but I always thought she was the fairy,” she confessed. “I didn’t understand how opals worked back then – I always thought it was fairy magic that made the stone burn like that, not opal fire. She never bothered correcting me, either.”
Penny laughed, shaking her head.
“It’s very you,” she said. “Luka was really excited when Gina offered. He went through all the trouble of getting Tom and Sabine’s blessing – Jagged was pouting for weeks after that, by the way. He couldn’t understand why Luka didn’t ask for his blessing, too.”
Marinette laughed at that, not surprised at all.
“Of course he was,” she said. “What, do I need to ask him for Luka’s hand first, too?”
“It probably wouldn’t hurt,” Penny snickered. “But you know how Luka is. He’s not a planner. I think part of him honestly didn’t think Tom would even say yes.”
“Dummy,” Marinette said, shaking her head. “Like Papa would ever say no to him.”
“That boy is crazy for you, Marinette,” Penny said, squeezing her shoulders. “He’s not above being completely irrational when it comes to you. I’ve seen him put up with a lot on the road, between his father and the rest of the band, and sometimes I honestly think the only thing that truly scares him is the thought of losing you. Even if he knows it will never happen…I don’t know. It’s like…I don’t know if he saw something. During an akuma attack, back in the day. Maybe that breakup you two had when you were younger. But he says things sometimes, like he’s all too aware of how things could be. How fragile life really is. I think it makes him hold on a bit tighter to how they are.”
Marinette bit her lip. She wondered if Penny realized just how right she actually was.
“I gave him up once, Penny,” she said, brushing her thumb over the opal. “I have no intention of doing so again. He’s stuck with me.” She looked back up at her, her grin coming back. “And he’s going to have to pry this ring off my cold, dead finger.”
Penny laughed and leaned in to smack a kiss against her temple.
“And don’t you let him forget it,” she said. She winked at her. “After you let him get the proposal out, all right? You know he had something big and romantic planned.”
“Luka? Plan?” Marinette gasped, her eyes wide. “How dare you accuse him of such a thing! That’s my future husband you’re slandering, Mme. Stone!”
“Only because I have entirely too much experience wrangling his family, Mme. Stone,” Penny said with a roll of her eyes, but Marinette was too busy grinning at being called Mme. Stone to pick up on her tone. Penny just smiled and shook her head, waving her off. She told her to tell Luka to call her – she wanted him to rest up, but they still had work to do in the studio – and headed towards the door. When Marinette was alone again, she turned back to her ring with a soft smile.
…street fair costume jewelry. Tch.
(…she wasn’t going to think about it. If not for the fact that Tom had known her great-grandmother and could confirm the truth…she wouldn’t put it past Gina Dupain to embellish a tale about smuggled wartime jewels just to entertain her little fairy.)

Marichat May 2023 Day 6: Rescue/Kidnapping
@marichatmay
(This is after deflagaration (kwami's choice part 2), season 5)
Ladybug and Chat noir managed to defeat the akumatized villain but they didn't do their usual fist pound with each other. "This is all my fault, my lady." Chat noir's face was filled with guilt and anguish as he whispered those words.
Seeing Chat noir in such a state broke ladybug's heart. The only time she has seen Chat noir in such despair was when she fought his akumatized version in an alternate universe.
"Don't be hard on yourself Chat noir, we won't let monarch harm civilians like Marinette." Ladybug reassured but it failed to make him feel much better. Her earrings were beeping which signaled that she needs find a place to detransform.
Ladybug knew that trying to comfort him as Ladybug would be futile, so right now Marinette is somewhat the only hope to lift the cat themed superhero's spirits. She found a hiding spot then she detransformed and gave tikki cookies and immediately ran to Chat noir's location.
He hated himself for being such a fool. If only he could have controlled himself around her as chat noir instead of being intimate with her that day. Now monarch is harming her to get to him and ladybug and he knows he will do it again. He really feels pathetic, scared and helpless.
"Chat Noir" yelled a a voice all too familiar to him and chat noir immediately turned towards the source of the voice. Marinette, the love of his life was running towards his direction. On any other time, he would have been happy to see her but not this time because after seeing her, he immediately began feeling guilty.
"I guess ladybug already left, I wanted to thank both of you for saving me from that akuma." Marinette gave her usually joyful smile to him. "Marinette let's go somewhere alone where no one can listen to us." Chat noir said with seriousness in his tone. He needed to tell her that monarch intentions on using her to get to him.
"Sure." Marinette knew chat noir was serious and she knew what he was about to tell her.
.
They ended up at the same spot where they shared a kiss. It was dark right now so the chances of someone listening to their conversation was very low. "Marinette, the reason the akumatized villain targeted you even though you didn't even know that person was because monarch knows about my feelings for you." Marinette had shocked expression on her face. "And I doubt it would be the last time he would use you to get to me and ladybug." The guilt and despair was now evident in his voice and expression and tears were forming in his face.
"I am sorry, Marinette. I am really sorry for being such a pathetic superhero and a failure. Because of me you are in this dangerous situation." Chat noir, was now weeping. Marinette hated seeing him in this much guilt and despair. She then embraced the crying superhero, inorder to comfort him. They were in this embrace for a while with chat noir slowly calming down.
"Don't worry chat noir, I have complete faith in you and ladybug to protect me from Monarch and I believe you two will definitely defeat him." Her voice has a quite soothing and encouraging effect on him,"Besides, this whole incident is somewhat my fault as well. I really should have known better-" "Marinette, I have said it once and I will say it again. You have every right to love me and maybe we could have been a couple under different circumstances, so don't blame yourself. Plus like you said, me and ladybug won't let anything happen to you."
Marinette gave him a smile, happy to see her partner brimming with confidence. "I should get you home, princess. Your parents must be worried." Chat noir said. "Yeah, I must go home before they get even more worried. " Marinette agreed with him. Chat noir grabbed her by her waist and then used his staff to take both of them to her house. While they were on their way, both were feeling very peaceful and happy with eachother.

So for your villain tom au, I Honestly thought that either chloe and/or lila would have got the ladybug and the black cat miraculous., and marinette finds/creates her own miraculous box on accident.
I wanted Marinette to have the ladybug miraculous specifically to act as a foil to where Adrien is currently. In the original timeline, Marinette was the one with too many responsibilities buckling under Ladybug's mantle and holding all of the cards, attempting to gamble with information to hurt the fewest people possible, while Chat Noir initially used his miraculous as a freedom from his tragic, suffocating life.
In this new timeline, Adrien is the one with information and a harrowing outlook on the consequences of the miracle wish's actions, having to deduce a lot on his own. Meanwhile, Marinette in this new timeline finds a sense of freedom in rescuing people as Ladybug. She was so helpless when Sabine died, and her life has felt like a train wreck since then, misfortune after misfortune. as Ladybug, she has the freedom and control to actually make a difference and save lives! the same way she wishes she could've saved Sabine.
in this new timeline, their roles have been totally switched. Adrien is the one carrying the mantle of knowledge while Marinette is blissfully unaware of the sinister implications boiling beneath the surface.

we talk a lot about genderfluid adrien a lot which is all well and good because its TRUE but i feel like we are ignoring marinette “is always portrayed as a knight rescuing princess adrien” dupain cheng. marinette who has a mansona on speed dial. marinette who pretended to be a guy waiter to sneak into a party when being a guy was definitely not a requirement for that particular disguise. im coming back to this were gonna talk about it. listen to me

It’s a Learned Trait
This is my Secret Santa gift to Night_ngale on Ao3! This story is inspired by this photo by @mumblesplash on Tumblr (yes I got permission, and thank you for it!):
For Night_ngale on Ao3:
Marinette had been having a wonderful day with her parents in Gotham, New Jersey. Her parents had just finished a catering job there and today they had decided to go sightseeing to all of the tourist attractions. They had taken her to the zoo, to the aquarium, to the museum, and now they were heading to a bo-ton-tanicel-al…. botanical garden! Both of her parents were holding her hands and smiling brightly at her as they walked the busy streets. It was such a nice day, absolutely nothing could ruin it for her!
Then an explosion happened, and there was running, and a ringing noise in her ears that just wouldn’t stop, and everything was moving too fast.
Screams filled the air along with scary high pitched giggling that sent shivers running through her spine. She clutched tightly to the pair of hands that held onto both of her’s just as tightly, if not tighter, as they fled the crowded streets. Then they could feel the cool shadow of something big that was coming from up high. She looked up and felt herself freeze up as a massive piece of concrete broke off of the building they were under and fell faster and faster and faster exactly where she and her parents stood. She tried to move, she tried to get herself to run away from the danger that she knew even at her age meant that she would no longer be able to wander the Earth; but she couldn’t. The people kept shoving past her and her parents, keeping them in place as everyone pushed and shoved to get far, far away from the ensuing chaos. The crowd was too thick, the screams were too loud, the rubble was too fast. The next thing she knew was two pairs of different sized hands shoved her forward away from the massive pieces of falling debris that was right above them. She turned to look behind her to see her parents' horrified expressions as they too stared up at the ginormous piece of concrete that was hurtling towards them and so many more people. People kept almost stepping on her and crowding her vision of her parents and they moved before she could blink.
Before she could even process what happened next, someone had picked her up and moved her away before quickly covering her eyes. A few seconds later a loud crash was heard and the ground shook so hard she would have fallen over if the person hadn’t been keeping her upright. Once the shaking was over the person that had rescued her picked her up, holding tightly onto her as they moved their hand up and the sound of something being shot through the air sounded just above her.
“It’s ok, I’ve gotcha.”
Said a deep gruff voice, though she could barely hear it as the cold wind whipped past her ears biting at her skin. Her knee length pink dress hugged her legs as her brain refused to function and process the events that had just occurred. She felt her feet touch solid ground, but her legs didn’t seem to want to hold her as her brain continued to stay offline. She couldn’t think, couldn’t comprehend, and would the ringing in her ears just stop! Where were her mama and papa?! What happened to them?!
It sounded like someone was trying to talk to her, but she was underwater and she couldn’t hear a thing, she couldn’t even see what was in front of her clearly. Her entire body felt like it was weighted down, the pressure slowly crushing her. She couldn’t even think, her brain was just too quiet and the ringing was too loud! There was too much, too much noise, too much quiet, too much information yet not enough at all! She kept going down deeper with nothing to ground her fleeting thoughts until she felt something heavy being placed around her shoulders. Her eyes slowly began to register her surroundings and, after who knew how long, she was met with deep light teal eyes that were filled with worry. Their face was obscured by a red mask, but she could still make out most of his features. He had dark black hair with a white streak in it. She didn’t know why this was important, all she knew was that she had to keep looking at him. It was like if she looked away from him then everything would get all fuzzy again and she wouldn’t be able to think, and the ringing would take over her again even though it was still there! Why can’t it stop, just make it stop, she wanted her mama and papa! Where were they?!
“Hey, things will be ok.”
The masked man gently stated. He kept eye contact with her, watching her to make sure she didn’t start to hyperventilate and that she wouldn’t go into shock. He carefully pulled the jacket around her full body, carefully pulling her limp and dysfunctional arms into the jacket’s large sleeves. He gave her a small reassuring smile while smoothing out the sleeves on the jacket, pressing the warmth of it onto her. “Can you hold onto this for me? I’ll be right back, ok?”
She simply nodded her head and held onto the jacket tightly like it was a lifeline. He slowly grabbed a helmet that was on the ground near his legs and put it on. “Don’t move ok, you’re safe now.”
He looked back at her then ran and jumped off…., oh, she was on a roof. When did she get on a roof? She hadn’t noticed. She stood completely still, her mind causing the cacophony of noises to fade in and out. She could hear screams and bangs, then nothing. She could hear fighting and laughter, then the ringing came back. The sounds often came close to the roof she was on; the fear of it made her legs so weak she eventually collapsed onto her knees as she clutched the jacket tighter than before. Eventually her brain finally seemed to grasp the reality around her causing tears to start falling down her cheeks and sobs escaped her lips. Her parents were dead, she was rescued, but th-they’re d-de-dead!
Sobs wracked her small frame as the noises continued on for she doesn’t even know how long. Every time there was a noise louder than the rest she pulled the jacket even tighter around her small body expecting the worst. She wanted to escape, she wanted to hug her parents, she just wanted to go back home to Paris. She wanted to go back to the bakery and eat the desserts her parents made, see Nino and Kim and play games with them, she wanted to go to the pretty gardens at the park and lay with the flowers.
They were supposed to be happy, they were happy when they saw the pretty fishies, they were happy when they saw the amazing artifacts in the museum, papa had held her on his shoulders so she could see the giraffes better when they had taken her to the zoo. Everything had been so perfect, why did everything change so fast? Why did her mama and papa have to leave her like this? Why was there no rain when such a terrible tragedy had just occurred like in the movies?
There was a soft thump that made her wrap the jacket even tighter, if that was even possible. She didn’t want to get hurt, she just wanted her parents back. “Hey, thanks for holding onto that for me.”
The man from before said. She looked up, her eyes watery, making his figure blurry. She saw him take off the helmet and set it down. He looked sad and remorseful as he slowly sat next to her, but never reached out to touch her, instead remaining a comfortable presence. “You from here?”
She slowly shook her head no. “P-Paris.”
Her voice was cracked and broken. Her parents had her study English with her French studies because of all of the tourists that came by. Not to mention Mama said that if she wanted to be famous then she had to know English. How would she get back to Paris? Who would take her? How was she supposed to survive without her mama and papa?! She couldn’t, she needed them, now they’re gone and she’ll die here because she has nothing without them.
“Paris is a nice place. Have any friends there?”
She nodded again, the movement causing the drops on her cheek to drip onto the ground. He stayed silent, waiting to see if she would do or say anything further. She was glad he let her take her time, she was tired and her brain was still too loud and fuzzy to really understand his questions immediately. Dejectedly she replied, “N-Nino and K-Kim are my friends. Th-they stand up t-to Chloe f-for me. Everyo-one else is too scared of her an-and her daddy.”
He reached out to touch her, but quickly pulled back. He wanted to comfort the small child, but he wasn’t sure how she would respond if he touched her. She looked so small curled up in his jacket, it would have been cute if it weren’t for the circumstances that led to the scene in front of him. “Sounds like you’ve got some good people lookin’ out for ya.”
He said, trying to sound reassuring. She gave a small smile and nodded, “Y-yea.”
“Why don’t we go somewhere safe. I know someone who will take care of ya for a bit, okay?” Red Hood asked carefully. She nodded again and was about to take her arms out of the sleeves of the warm jacket, but before she could fully take it off the man stopped her. “Keep it, I’ve got a lot of others back home, and this is gonna keep you safe, ok?”
She nodded slowly, letting him adjust and zip it up so the warmth that still lingered in it was all around her. He slowly stood up, projecting his movements so as to not scare her before he extended his hand for her to take. She looked at it hesitantly, slowly reaching out and taking hold of his hand as she wiped her cheeks with the sleeve of her free arm. Her hand was so small that when he closed his her entire hand was encompassed by his own. He gently pulled her back onto her feet making sure she was stable before letting go. “Hop on my back and hold on tight, ‘kay?”
He said softly–just like her mom used to when she was hurt–crouching down with his back facing her so she could climb on. With a brief moment of hesitation, because what if this was a trap like Mama and Papa had warned her about, she carefully climbed onto his back and wrapped her arms around his neck and gripped onto his shirt. It was a bit hard as there seemed to be something hard sewn into parts of it, but it was okay. He slowly got up and made sure her legs were wrapped tightly around his torso so she wouldn't slip or fall off. When he was sure she was secure, he grabbed something from one of his pockets, angled it. There was a loud bang, like the one she had heard when he had first grabbed her, though that memory felt like it was from so many years ago, that startled her accompanied by a whiz as it shot into the air. He pulled on the device he was using to make sure it was taught and secure, then he ran and jumped off the building.
Marinette screamed in fear and buried her face into his shoulder, holding him even tighter than before. She kept her eyes shut, feeling out the rhythm of run, jump, fall, swing. Eventually she started to feel a little more comfortable swinging through the air, that was until they started to fall again. She screamed again louder than the time before and heard the noise of the man’s device again before she felt the taut jolt that signified they were soaring through the air once more. Slowly, she tilted her head up and saw how amazing the city looked with all of its shining lights so high up in the sky with the setting sun sinking behind the tall buildings. Wasn’t it just past 13:00 though? She had just eaten lunch with her mama and papa; hadn’t she…?
Suddenly the lights weren’t as amazing as they were before, they were dull and full of sorrow and loss. She didn’t want to look down just in case she saw them, they wouldn’t look the same. She didn’t want to look down because then she might fall, and she didn’t want to fall. Heights have always been scary. She held onto the man tighter, scared that if she loosened her grip even the smallest amount, she’d fall.
They continued on in that fashion for a few minutes when the man with the red helmet set her down on a balcony. It was plain with a swirled black metal guard. The roof was bland and lifeless with nothing decorating it other than the fence, she didn’t like it. “I’ve got a friend here. He’ll watch over you for a while, okay?” She nodded slowly, unsure of whether she should be relieved someone would take her in or scared that this was all some sort of trap. She watched and listened as the man climbed down a fire escape and began to tap on a window.
Tap
…
Tap tap
…..
Tap tap tap
Then he stepped back and waited. Another man with red hair opened the window with a small smile, “What’s up Hood?” He asked in a casual voice.
“I need you to watch someone for me.”
The red-haired man raised a brow.
“Her parents didn’t make it in the last battle with Joker. Lots of debris, and I don’t feel like having serial-adopter-bats see her.”
“Makes sense. Where are they?” The other man asked with a small nod, looking around the escape. The man in the helmet held up one finger and climbed back up to her.
“Can you come with me please?”
Marinette gulped, unsure of what she should do. But the man has been really nice to her so far, and he’s even letting her keep his jacket. Slowly she reached out and took his offered hand, letting him help her down the fire escape to the window.
“Hey,”
The other man said in a soft tone,
“What's your name?”
She looked down, anxiously twirling her foot from side to side. “M-Marinette.” She replied quietly, voice strained.
“That’s a nice name, how old are you?” His voice was soft and gentle and it made her feel a little more at ease.
“Nine.”
“Wow, you’re pretty old, huh? I’m Roy, do you want to come in and eat something? I just finished making some sandwiches.” She looked back at the man that had brought her here and saw him give her a small nod. She nodded back and shyly followed the red haired man into the apartment building. “Do you want some water?”
She nodded again, standing near the island counter. She looked back at the window where the man in the helmet had been only seconds before, only to see that he was no longer there. The man nodded and quickly got a cup from a cupboard and filled it with some tap water before placing it on the counter near her with a small plate that held what looked like BLT. “I have a roommate, he should come by soon. Just as a heads up, ok?”
She nodded, carefully climbing up to the barstool and sat down. Marinette looked at the sandwich and started picking at it. She really wasn’t that hungry, but it would be rude to not accept her host's hospitality. Her mama had taught her the importance of respecting people that were trying to help her, especially when she was at her friend’s home. Tears she thought she had run out of started to resurface as she thought of her mama. She sniffled and wiped her eyes before more could escape.
Roy looked at her worriedly. From what he had read from the text Jason had sent him, her parents were caught by falling debris from one of Joker’s bombs that the bats hadn’t been able to dismantle in time. He had been able to pull her away, but her parents along with a bunch of other civilians weren’t able to make it out of the way in time. Jason said that he had managed to cover her eyes and take her away before she could see anything, but he knew that wouldn’t be enough to stop any type of trauma from forming.
The girl was so small, he could only imagine what must be going through her mind. Not to mention she was only visiting from Paris, she wasn’t even from Gotham. Apparently her parents were catering for one of Bruce’s events, and that was the only reason they had even traveled here in the first place.
“Hey, do you want to watch a movie? I’m sure we could find something you’d like.” She didn’t respond right away as she processed what he had asked. It didn’t matter though, he’d give her all the time she needed.
“R-Ratatouille?” Was her small reply. A smile graced his lips, as he asked,
“Is that your favorite Disney movie?” She shrunk in on herself and nodded with a small,
“Mhm.”
“That’s a great movie, let me ask Jason to pick it up when he comes back. He should be here soon anyways.”
“Okay.”
Her voice was so quiet, but he could hear the joy in her voice. He quickly texted Jason to pick up the movie when he was done debriefing with The Bats and started to make another sandwich since she was eating his, not that he minded of course.
• • •
Jason walks in with a bag full of gummy candy, popcorn, a box of different flavored macaroons, and one Disney movie in its unopened case and plastic wrapping. He was thankful to see that the small girl was sitting at the counter drawing. He wouldn’t know what to do if she were still crying. “Hey, heard we’re takin’ care of another kid? I bet Lian will be happy to have a new friend when she comes back from her sleepover.”
He called out into the apartment as if he had no idea what had happened only a few hours before. The little girl startled from her seat, quickly turning to look at him with her large bluebell eyes. He really needed to keep her away from Bruce, she was perfect Wayne material and he refused for her to be tainted by him and the rest of his adopted child army.
“Yea, Red Hood dropped her off due to….” He glanced at the girl sympathetically, “The incident that happened earlier.”
Marinette shifted uncomfortably and went back to drawing with a furrowed brow. There was a heavy silence that filled the room until Jason said, “Well, I bought a bunch of snacks and was told to buy a movie, so….”
Marinette looked up again and hopped off the chair nearly tripping. She quickly stood up embarrassed as both boys stared at her in worry.
“You okay Marinette?” Roy asked carefully, walking towards her. Her cheeks turned a slight red as she nodded.
“Y-yes, sorry. I’m really clumsy.” Her voice held a French accent that only made the little girl even more adorable. Jason gave her a wide smile and gently handed her the plastic grocery bag.
“Here you go.”
She carefully took the bag with a small, “Thank you”, and started to look through it. Her eyes shined with childlike glee at the macaroons and they shined even brighter when she pulled out the blue-ray disk. She quickly ran over to Roy and showed him the movie asking if he could put it into whatever he uses.
It was interesting to see Roy smile and ruffle her hair. He looked calm and happy, used to the role of caretaker. Gently he took the disk, removed the plastic before opening it up, and walked over to the TV in the main room next to the kitchen and popped the disk in.
“Hey, I’ll go grab some blankets. Do you want to take your shoes off Marinette?” He asked gently as he moved toward the linen closet. She nodded and slipped them off with a slightly flushed face. She watched as Roy sunk down on the couch where he patted at one of the seats. Cautiously she walked toward the coach sitting in a rocking chair a few feet away from Roy. You could never be too cautious, at least that’s what her mama used to say. “Used to”, that felt wrong.
When Jason walked back into the room he watched as the small girl hugged her legs close to her chest, face hidden behind her arms. It was a heartbreaking sight, a sight that felt familiar as it pulled against his heartstrings as he remembered doing the same thing around the same age.
“Thanks Jaybird.” Roy whispered as he took the blankets from his hands. He hadn’t even noticed that he was approaching. He was out of it today, and not in a good way. The opening narration of Remmy the Rat began to play through the speakers as Roy slowly and carefully wrapped a weighted blanket around the young girl's shoulders. He watched as Roy talked to her quietly for a few moments, never initiating touch, waiting to see what she would say or do. It was always interesting to watch Roy act like a father as he treated his kid far differently than either of his dads had treated him. After a few minutes Roy stepped away, back to his spot on the couch not saying another word as the young girl collected herself before looking up to watch the movie with tear soaked cheeks that stabbed at Jason’s heart.
• • •
It was around the middle of the movie that little Mari fell asleep. She had slowly begun to relax as the movie progressed until she had blinked a few times very slowly, then her eyes fell and stayed shut. She was emotionally exhausted from the day and had simply passed out, poor kid.
Jason watched the kid, but not in a weird way. He was worried, and he didn’t know what to do. The kid was stuck here, despite the fact that she’s not a citizen, and from what little information he could find with little time at his disposal, he couldn’t find any family that could take her now that she was an orphan. Jason wondered if this was how Bruce felt when he had met all of them before he decided to make them his little band of misfit toys. He often felt this way when he saw Lian, but it was never as strong of an emotion as he felt now for this child he had only met a few hours ago.
“You look constipated; which means you’re trying a failing to show some form of deep emotion. So spit it out, what’s going on in that thick skull of yours?”
Roy asked quietly, turning his head slightly to give him a side eye before turning back to the movie. Jason rolled his eyes and let out a long frustrated sigh. “I don’t know Roy. There’s just a lot going on, especially after the last attack.”
Roy quickly paused the movie and turned to look Jason in his eyes. There wasn’t any pity in his gaze, but there was empathy and an openness that showed he wouldn’t judge.
“It was Joker’s fault. So many people died because of the Joker, her parents,” he firmly gestured to the sleeping girl with tear stained cheeks sleeping on the small chair, whisper yelling so as to not wake her; “are no longer alive because of his actions today and Bruce still won’t get rid of him.” Jason took in a deep shuddering breath, he needed to control himself, he couldn’t let the green creep in. That wouldn’t do anything, it wouldn’t do any good for anyone, especially right now.
“I’ve tried to kill him,” Jason admitted shakily, “I’ve tried, but he always finds a way to stop me. I don’t understand how he cares for that-that creature more than his own- than me.” A heavy silence fell between them only broken up by the gentle snores to their right.
“I don’t want her to feel this way, I don’t want her to go through the same pain I went through at her age.” Jason continued. When I was trying to find out any information on her, a potential family member that could take her home I found that her grandmother on her dad’s side died in a motorcycle accident, her grandfather died of a heart attack, on her mom’s side it looks like her mother was disowned for unknown reasons, which means that they probably would not take in her daughter. That leaves her with Social Services, and despite Bruce’s efforts I still don’t trust it; or as a street kid.”
Roy contemplated everything that Jason had just told him. They had been through a lot together, in fact Jason and Star were the reasons that he was still alive, the reason he believed that he was doing a good job at being a father, they helped him keep going when everyone else had given up on him. Roy glanced at the sleeping girl, then back to Jason. Jason looked at the girl the same way Roy looked at his own daughter, with a sort of protective love. Roy could tell that Jason cared about the kid; he probably saw himself Marinette. It only made sense that he would feel extra protective around the girl as no one would want the same trauma that you’ve faced placed onto another.
“Well, what do you think is the best thing to do Jason? I know for a fact that you’re not going to be letting Bruce or any of the other bats, besides maybe Oracle, anywhere near her. If what you say is true, and she really has no family that will willingly take her in, then what’s your plan?”
Another sigh escaped Jason as he leaned his head back so that it was hanging off the couch. “I don’t know Roy, maybe we can drop her off in Metropolis and let her be taken care of there. They have a better system and I’m sure she would be adopted by someone that would love her.”
Roy nodded, he could see the good in the plan, but there was something else. Jason was still frustrated and didn’t like the idea. “But?” He prodded.
“‘But’,” Jason said emphasizing the ‘t’, “the thought of doing that makes my skin crawl in all of the wrong ways.”
Roy hummed. This isn't some easy or light hearted task. The kid had just lost both of her parents in the most sudden way possible, then she was taken away from the area and to the house of complete strangers, and to top it off she may never be able to return to her home country; but if she does she would be put into the foster system with no stability ot time to heal. Of course she also had the possibility of being taken in by her grandparents in China, but there was a chance that they would treat her poorly since they had disowned her mother, and they may only take her in because of obligation. Nothing about this was easy, none of it was simple. If Jason wanted to somehow become her legal guardian then he would need to earn her trust, he would have to either legally become alive again or find a believable identity that would allow for him to adopt her.
There were just so many variables, and it was too late for this conversation, yet not late enough.
“Lian’s coming home tomorrow, we can figure this out while they play.”
Jason nodded, mostly to himself. “You’re right. We need to give her more time to process everything, I still need to process today.”
“Did you have a panic attack?” Roy asked worriedly. Now that he was thinking about it there must have been lots of explosions, even if most of them were disabled. Then there was the clown and how he just paraded around on the rooftops. Jason had had a few before when he returned back to the apartment after a Joker breakout, it was horrifying. Jason just gave him a sad, strained smile.
“No, thankfully.”
“Right,” Roy said as he slowly stood up, stretching his arms up dramatically. “Well let's move her to Kori’s room tonight. She’s still visiting Tamaran.”
Jason nodded, following suit. Slowly he approached the sleeping girl, televising his movements despite the fact that she was still asleep before gently picking the girl up. Roy watched with a gentle smile as he slowly walked to Kori’s room, trying not to wake her as he brought her to bed. He had watched Jason do the same thing with Lian, playing the role of older brother perfectly. Now, it looked like he might be stepping into a new role. The same role that Roy carried right now. But who knew what would happen. As Roy settled in for the night in his own room a sudden thought came to his mind. Jason was always complaining how Bruce had a “type” or MO for the people he really cared about; and that was that they needed to have black hair and/or blue eyes. The girl that Jason saved and now is attached to has black hair and…blue eyes. He quickly turned into his pillow and started laughing his butt of, hoping that no one would be able to hear him. A couple tears slipped down his cheeks as he thought to himself, ‘so it’s a learned trait after all.’

I'm Taylor Titmouse, I write and illustrate queer erotica featuring freaks and monsters. I also draw a lot of porn that I can't post here, so those will be posted as crops with links to my various uncensored locations.
You can find my illustrated novellas and artbooks on Itchio. I've published a Lot of them. If you don't know where to start, I recommend the Dragon Double Feature series or Roger Crenshaw, or Spring with the Unicorns--that one's free!
Some of my latest releases, try The Long Road if you like gender-based worldbuilding!
You can find the most complete collection of my uncensored art on Patreon and Subscribestar (both are equally served.) I post high resolution art regularly, and everything is neatly organized going back to 2022 (that's longer than I've been posting here!) $5 patrons get access to over 180 exclusive illustrations, and can vote in monthly polls from suggestions made by the $10 tier--who can also commission me at any time with a 10% discount!
Just .05% of the exclusives you unlock by subscribing!
You can also follow me on Twitter or Bluesky, where I post my art uncensored. Below the cut is a list of story tags, which will link you to art and posts about those stories, and provides some context to what they're about. Thanks for checking out my work!
