Beautful Shannen Doherty portrayed by Lou Salvatore for the March 1993 issue of US magazine in which she was the covergirl.
I love this photoshot session but there seems to not to be HQ versions of the photos anywhere. I'd like to buy a copy to scan them and enlarge them (I think these scans may come from Dianna's website shannen-doherty.net?)
I tried to enhance some of them but I am not happy with the result, but I share them anyway. Maybe lovely Shando Strong Instagram can enhance them better than me? Hopefully? She does great improvements!

Depeche Mode - Condemnation / finding video's location "near God"
Tumblr media
It was only 3 days after the Memento Mori concert in March, when I learned that Condemnation video was made in Hungary, not far from Budapest, near Göd, in a small village's border, Göd-Újtelep. When I wrote about it to @mijamija1234, she suggested that what if I visited its location? I liked the idea, I've started to make a research. Later I found some colored photos on Göd-Újtelep's website (under this text) and I posted them with words "Condemnation’s video was made near Göd". @mftm1987's reblog tag was hilarious: #well sure it was made near god. I felt love with the concept, so this is my "project's" name: Near God.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only screenshot from the video (1st pic above) that I can use for finding the location is not very helpful, considering that it happened more than 30 years ago. 31 exactly. In 28th of July, 1993 the band and Corbijn went "into the f---ing woods" early in the morning after the day of they Devotional Tour concert in Budapest. Dave talked about it the gig's night in NME, while Gavin Martin was making his long interview:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I won’t even sleep tonight. I’ve got to get up and go and do some… I’ve got to go off with (Anton) Corbijn into the f---ing woods and do the ‘Condemnation’ bit. But, really, I have fun with doing that. It’s just the eight o’clock morning, you gotta get over it.
I quoted from this article first time here, my updated daves-first-tattoo post (scroll to the middle). Another source, Daryl Bamonte, Devotional Tour Diary, Bong magazine, 1994:
It was a long trek from Belgium yesterday, and we had to drive out into the Hungarian countryside today for Anton to shoot the “CONDEMNATION” video. Dave seemed to spend most of the day being dragged around by Sam and Hildia. He wasn’t complaining though. It could have been the other way round…
Near God
It's not easy to find a DM video's location (except Strangelove), Corbijn preferred countryside for his videos and the nature mostly in different countries in Europe (e.g. Belgium, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Scotland) or in the U.S. Hungary is famous for its "puszta", which is similar to prairie. Before the single's releasing he could shoot the clip during the tour. They stayed 3 days in Hungary, I read somewhere that Corbijn choosed Göd's area for the reason being very close to the capital. On imdb.com it is simply Göd.
Tumblr media
I was searching for those dirt roads from the screenshot with the Google relief map, impossible task. 31 years. I googled many times a day if I got some new inspiration, suddenly I found a person on facebook who commented Göd's page' photo of the day: she was there in her 14 years, "half of Göd was there". I wrote to her, 3 days later she answered that she would help. Wow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We met today and spent only 40 minutes together. She and her husband took me from the railwaystation on a truck to the location that she remembered - and of course that become famous in the village. She told me the short story: "My friend's sister was a big fan. We didn't have phones that time, someone brought the news by bike, no one believed that. Later many cars went to the place with 50-80 fans. We were hanging on the fence, like the children in the video. There were huge reflectors, the shooting took until the evening. Now there is a big battery factory in the fields."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When we arrived, we walked to a small road but it didn't resemble to the video's for the first sight. In fact it is a huge field with woods around, at the end of the road there was the factory, "It was built on that hill on the picture" she told. She was sure, so we took some funny photos with the printed screenshot (at the background with their truck), I wanted to walk more to find a better view but it was a very hot Summar day and my guide didn't have much time. To the right on this map I marked the point where we took the photos:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think the trip was worth it. All this area from the village to the woods down was the location of the video making. 31 years later the fence with the small cabin and the sunflower field disappeared but there still have straw bales, dirt roads and habitants who remember.
The single released 6 weeks later, on 13 September 2013. Although MTV played the clip on time, its DVD version released much later in 2002 on Depeche Mode - Videos 86>98+ (I ordered the very last piece of it from Antal). This DVD originally released in 1999 but without the clip, you can find a live version instead of (I have the 2000 edition), because - it is said - Corbijn wasn't quite satisfied with the final result, the band seemed too tired in the video, especially Dave.
Tumblr media
I love this song. Not my favourite, but it's in my DM top 20. One of its reasons that the video was shooted in Hungary and Dave loves it. He has frequently mentioned Condemnation as one of his favourite songs. In this interview from 2006 you can hear directly from him at 00:37. As fandom.com wrote, Dave still gets goosebumps when he recalls recording the song:
I immediately knew the song. It wasn't necessarily completely accurate to the way Martin wrote the melody line or the phrasing or the timing. I just sang it, and [after] I sang it, the tape stopped rolling and it went on quiet. I've got my headphones on and I hear [producer] Flood's voice go, 'Yeah, I mean, you could do another one. But I think we got it.' / 2021, Exclaim!
Well, at Memento Mori Tour they sang to us twice in Budapest, in 28 July, 2023 (yes, this day <3) together with 50000 people and in 26 March, 2024 to 16000 happy fans. Honestly, I like Waiting For The Night much better, I really wanted to hear it live, I hoped that they don't sing the same song at the same city as first encore duett, Condemnation is difficult to sing, they've sung Waiting For much often at this tour... but I was wrong. I was confused with my feelings, I was disappointed. I was looking for the answers of they decision, and later I understood that somehow Hungary might mean Condemnation to them. They gifted us with Dave's favourite song. Twice.

It ain't over til the bisexual speaks...
The March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Equal Rights and Liberation took place on the 25th of April 1993 in Washington, D.C. An estimated 80,000 to over 1 million people attended.
The 1993 March was the first March on Washington to include bisexuals in the title. Out of 18 chosen speakers, only one was bisexual: Lani Ka'ahumanu.
Afterwards, she wrote an article for bisexual magazine Anything That Moves about her experience entitled "How I Spent My Two Week Vacation Being a Token Bisexual", which can be read on her website here.
The webpage also contains a transcript of the speech she made at the event, which has been copied below the cut:
Aloha, my name is Lani Ka’ahumanu, and it ain’t over til the bisexual speaks...
I am a token, and a symbol. Today there is no difference. I am the token out bisexual asked to speak, and I am a symbol of how powerful the bisexual pride movement is and how far we have come.
I came here in 1979 for the March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights.
I returned in 1987 for the March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights.
I stand here today on the stage of the 1993 March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Equal Rights and Liberation.
In 1987 I wrote an article on bisexuality for the Civil Disobedience Handbook titled, “Are we visible yet?”
Bisexual activists organized on the local, regional and national levels to make this March a reality.
Are bisexuals visible yet? Are bisexuals organized yet? Are bisexuals accountable yet?
You bet your sweet ass we are!
Bisexuals are here, and we’re queer.
Bisexual pride speaks to the truth of behavior and identity.
No simple either/or divisions fluid – ambiguous – subversive bisexual pride challenges both the heterosexual and the homosexual assumption.
Society is based on the denial of diversity, on the denial of complexity.
Like multiculturalism, mixed heritage and bi-racial relationships, both the bisexual and transgender movements expose and politicize the middle ground.
Each show there is no separation, that each and everyone of us is part of a fluid social, sexual and gender dynamic.
Each signals a change, a fundamental change in the way our society is organized.
Remember today.
Remember we are family, and like a large extended family, we don’t always agree, don’t always see eye to eye.
However, as a family under attack we must recognize the importance of what each and every one of us brings to our movement.
There is strength in our numbers and diversity. We are every race, class, culture, age, ability, religion, gender identity and sexual orientation.
Our visibility is a sign of revolt.
Recognition of bisexual orientation and transgender issues presents a challenge to assumptions not previously explored within the politics of gay liberation.
What will it take for the gayristocracy to realize that bisexual, lesbian, transgender, and gay people are in this together, and together we can and will move the agenda forward.
But this will not happen until public recognition of our common issues is made, and a sincere effort to confront biphobia and transphobia is made by the established gay and lesbian leadership in this country.
The broader movement for our civil rights and liberation is being held back.
Who gains when we ostracize whole parts of our family? Who gains from exclusionary politics?
Certainly not us...
Being treated as if I am less oppressed than thou is not only insulting, it feeds right in to the hands of the right wing fundamentalists who see all of us as queer.
What is the difficulty in seeing how my struggle as a mixed race bisexual woman of color is intimately related to the bigger struggle for lesbian and gay rights the rights of people of color and the rights of all women?
What is the problem?
This is not a competition.
I will not play by rules that pit me against any oppressed group.
Has the gayristocracy bought so far in to the either/or structure, invested so much in being the opposite of heterosexual that they cannot remove themselves that they can’t imagine being free of the whole oppressive heterosexist system that keeps us all down?
Bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender people who are out of the closet, who are not passing for anything other than who and what we are all have our necks and our lives on the line.
All our visibility is a sign of revolt.
Bisexuals are here to challenge the bigots who have denied lesbian, gay and bisexual people basic civil rights in Colorado.
Yes, Amendment 2 includes bisexual orientation.
Yes, the religious right recognizes bisexuals as a threat to “so called” family values.
Bisexuals are here to protest the military ban against lesbians, gays and bisexuals.
Yes, the Department of Defense defines bisexuals separately as a reason to be dishonorably discharged.
And yes, out bisexuals are not allowed to be foster or adoptive parents,
And yes, we lose our jobs, our children, get beaten and killed for loving women and for loving men.
Bisexuals are queer, just as queer as queer can be.
Each of us here today represents many people who could not make the trip.
Our civil rights and liberation movement has reached critical mass.
Remember today.
Remember that we are more powerful than all the hate, ignorance and violence directed at us.
Remember what a profound difference our visibility makes upon the world in which we live.
The momentum of this day can carry us well into the 21st century if we come out where ever and when ever we can.
Remember assimilation is a lie. It is spiritual erasure.
I want to challenge those lesbian and gay leaders who have come out to me privately over the years as bisexual to take the next step, come out now.
What is the sexual liberation movement about if not about the freedom to love whom we choose?
I want to encourage bisexuals in the lesbian, gay and heterosexual communities to come out now.
Remember there is nothing wrong with love. Defend the freedom to express it.
Our visibility is a sign of revolt. We cannot be stopped. We are everywhere. We are bisexual, lesbian, gay and transgender people.
We will not rest until we are all free;
We will not rest until our basic human rights are protected under federal law;
We will not rest until our relationships and families are not just tolerated but recognized, respected and valued;
We will not rest until we have a national health care system; We will not rest until there are cures for AIDS and cancer.
We deserve nothing less. Remember we have every right to be in the world exactly as we are.
Celebrate that simply and fiercely.
I love you.
Mahalo and aloha.

Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. (born October 20, 1971), also known by his stage name Snoop Dogg (previously Snoop Doggy Dogg), is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, media personality, and actor. His initial fame dates back to 1992 following his guest appearance on Dr. Dre's debut solo single, "Deep Cover", and later on Dre's debut album, The Chronic that same year. Broadus has since sold over 23 million albums in the United States, and 35 million albums worldwide. His accolades include an American Music Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and 17 Grammy Award nominations.
Produced entirely by Dr. Dre, Broadus's debut studio album, Doggystyle (1993) was released by Death Row Records and debuted atop the Billboard 200. Selling 800,000 copies in its first week, the album received quadruple platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) the following year and spawned the Billboard Hot 100-top ten singles "What's My Name?" and "Gin and Juice". He was the lead performer on Death Row's soundtrack album for the 1994 short film Murder Was the Case, wherein Broadus made his acting debut. His second album, Tha Doggfather (1996), likewise debuted atop the chart and received double platinum certification.
In 1998, he parted ways with Death Row in favor of Master P's No Limit Records, through which he saw largely continued success with his albums Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told (1998), No Limit Top Dogg (1999), and Tha Last Meal (2000). He then signed with Priority, Capitol, and EMI Records to release his sixth album Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss (2002), which was further commercially oriented. This effectively continued upon him signing with Geffen Records to release his next three albums: R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece (2004), Tha Blue Carpet Treatment (2006), and Ego Trippin' (2008); the former spawned the single "Drop It Like It's Hot" (featuring Pharrell), which became his first to peak atop the Billboard Hot 100. He then returned to Priority and Capitol—upon his hiring as chairman of the former label—to release his tenth and eleventh albums, Malice 'n Wonderland (2009) and Doggumentary (2011), both of which saw mild critical and commercial response.
During this time, Broadus starred in films and hosted several television shows, including Doggy Fizzle Televizzle, Snoop Dogg's Father Hood, and Dogg After Dark. In 2012, following a trip to Jamaica, Snoop converted to Rastafari and adopted the alias Snoop Lion, under which he released areggae album, Reincarnated (2013), and a namesake documentary film about his Jamaican experience.
His thirteenth studio album, Bush (2015), was produced entirely by frequent collaborator Pharrell, while his fourteenth studio album, Coolaid (2016), was released the same year as his induction into the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame. In 2018, Broadus became "a born-again Christian" and released his first gospel album, Bible of Love in March of that year. In November of that year, Broadus was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2022, Broadus acquired Death Row Records from MNRK Music Group (formerly known as eOne Music), and released his nineteenth studio album, BODR (2022)—preceded by the independently-released I Wanna Thank Me (2019) and From tha Streets 2 tha Suites (2021).
The Washington Post, Billboard, and NME have called him a "West Coast icon"; and Press-Telegram, "an icon of gangsta rap". In 2006, Vibe magazine called him "The King of the West Coast". ABC News journalist Paul Donoughue, cited him among the 1990s acts that took hip-hop into the pop music charts. Broadus received the BMI Icon Award in 2011. In 2023, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Broadus popularized the use of -izzle speak particularly in the pop and hip-hop music industry. A type of infix, it first found popularity when used by Frankie Smith in his 1981 hit song "Double Dutch Bus". The Guardian's Rob Fitzpatrick has credited his album Doggystyle for proving that rappers "could reinvent themselves", expanding rap's vocabulary, changing hip-hop fashions, and helping introduce a hip-hop genre called G-funk to a new generation. The album has been cited as an influence by rapper Kendrick Lamar, while fellow rappers ScHoolboy Q and Maxo Kream have also cited him as an influence.

This time, I am translating the October 1993 Term, where he gives the newcomer manga artists more tips and advice on how to create different styes of manga. The winner of this edition was Eiichiro Oda with the one-shot "Ikki Yakō" (一鬼夜行). At the time, Yu Yu Hakusho was in the Black Chapter Arc.
Togashi gives instructions to help creating gag, love comedies, sports and fantasy manga. He used a little bit of all those elements in Yu Yu Hakusho.
Part 1. Gag Manga

T/N: Chain letters (letters of misfortune) were popular in Japan during the Showa era. A ''letter'' or ''postcard'' was delivered to your home/work in the style of ''If you do not send it to a certain number of people, you will be unhappy.'' The sender is unknown. Chain letters were also a hot topic in magazines and manga, like Doraemon and a bunch of gag manga.

The funny versions of Yanagizawa, Kido and Kaito represent the editors in charge of:
Jungle King Tar-chan/DNA² (Kaoru Kushima);
Lucky Man/JoJo (KAITO Katsuhiko);
Yu Yu Hakusho/Monmonmon (Tomoyuki Shima)
Waiting for powerful works that will break these guys territories! !
Tumblr media
They were responsible for the screening, checking all the applications and eliminating the mediocre works before passing them on to Togashi. Inside their territories, works with "characters that are all very similar," "characters with no strong personality at all" or "just imitations of existing characters" were mercifully discarded.
Part 2. Romantic Comedy

T/N: The fantasy illustration of Botan, Keiko, Yukina, Shizuru and Atsuko in medieval clothes was designed to the opening page of Yu Yu Hakusho volume 11, tankobon edition.

🏆 Winner: Eiichiro Oda
Oda-sensei was the inner of this edition! Togashi-sensei reviews his 31-page one-shot, "Ikki Yakou", that was published in the 1994 Shonen Jump Spring Special, and later reprinted in 1998 as part of Wanted!, a compilation of Oda's pre-One Piece stories.

I've been digging into the life of Jeremy Wade Delle, beyond just the day of his death that is immortalized in the Pearl Jam song we all know so well.
One thing Jeremy Delle and I have in common is that we both spent time in a psych hospital in our teenage years. We both ended up in adolescent wards of large chain hospitals. My experience wasn't completely negative, but I don't think it helped anyone but my mother.
Jeremy Delle was hospitalized in April of 1990 after what is believed to have been his first suicide attempt.
His parents put him in Timberlawn Psychiatric Hospital where he started seeing a doctor that continued to treat him until his death by suicide on January 8, 1991. He actually had completed a session with his doctor the afternoon before he died.
The redacted police report gives only a small amount of information about the doctor that Jeremy Delle was seeing. His name is given as Dr. Bob H####, and as Dr. Robert H#### on a card that the police found in Mr. Delle's wallet. This card lists two phone numbers for the doctor. The first if the general number for the Timberlawn facility, but the other number is likely a direct line to the doctor's office.
The information given in the July 1990 list of hospitals printed in D Magazine, a local Dallas publication, about Timberlawn is "4600 Samuell Blvd, Dallas. 381-7181. Psychiatric hospital; 232 beds; offers chemical dependency treatment, occupational therapy, and psychiatric unit". That's the same as the first phone number listed on the card on Jeremy Delle's wallet card. The second is 381-6327.
Without a last name, I couldn't search for any other mentions of the doctor in public records (and I didn't find anything relevant using the phone number), but there were certainly a few articles about Timberlawn. More than a few, I had to winnow them down to the ones that seemed most relevant to what Jeremy Delle might have experienced during his stay there.
This article from June 1990 explains the sudden growth in the industry in Texas. The financial motivations behind it have very distinct consequences that the article outlines: patients rarely stay longer than their insurance foots the bill.
When the money runs out everyone- adult, teenager, addict, seems to be miraculously cured.
There are several claims of misconduct by care providers throughout the time surrounding Jeremy Delle's stay at Timberlawn.
May 1988: A Dallas woman is admitted to the substance abuse program at Timberlawn. In February 1996, when she is in her early 30s, she alleges misconduct by her doctor during her stay at Timberlawn.
May 1991: In March 1993, a patient alleges he was pursued by his doctor after seeking treatment at Timberlawn for depression after the end of his marriage. He also alleges that she initiated an inappropriate romantic and sexual relationship which lasted from November 1991 to February 1992.
Obviously, Mr. Delle would have been, or at least should have been, housed in separate adolescent areas from any adult patients, but he might have seen the same doctors. Particularly because he was treated for substance abuse. I have some doubts about whether he was actually using any drugs or not, but I'll put that together in another post with some supporting documents.
I also found these court documents from 2009 relating to a patient that was hospitalized in the Timberlawn facility as a minor. She claims to have been raped by an older male patient due to inadequate supervision of the patients by staff and a lack of private space available to patients. No dates or ages are given, however, so it's impossible to know if this happened within the early 90s. However, if Jeremy Delle had survived until 2009 he would have been in his mid-20s, which is when childhood traumas begin to be understood by a maturing mind.
I'm not a lawyer and couldn't even pretend to be one on the internet, so I won't claim to understand anything about what is happening, but I can read through it and capture other facts about who, where, when, etc. If anybody with a better understanding of USA or Texas state law wants to shed some light on this that would be helpful.
I wasn't able to find any further information about the progress or outcomes of these cases, so I've chosen not to include the names of the staff accused, but they are included in the media coverage if anyone would like to search through news databases that aren't freely available online. I can only research the documents I can find, and unfortunately I don't have access to any academic databases at the moment, either.
My personal opinion is that whatever started Jeremy Delle down a troubled path started before he got to Timberlawn and the care of Dr. H.
I do think this line of research is important for understanding whether or not Mr. Delle received effective or adequate care as his mental illness spiraled out of control.
It strikes me that these stories about Timberlawn confirm and debunk some of the conceptions we have about this particular young man's life from the song written about him in 1991 by Eddie Vedder and Jason Ament. Jeremy Wade Delle was failed by everyone in his life with the power to help him as he started to sink under the waves of his illness. But his parents didn't ignore it completely, they tried to get him help. Maybe not when his illness first manifested, but as soon as his first 'cry for help' came in the form of a suicide attempt, they put him in a hospital that was known to be the best in their area. One with a developing, supposedly cutting edge, program for adolescents and those suffering from substance abuse. They most likely brought him home when the hospital said he was better. Sadly that might have had more to do with how long the hospital knew that insurance would foot the bill and not Mr. Delle's actual mental health.
The story is no less tragic than the story Pearl Jam spins in their song, but it's far more nuanced.
And it's still a great song.

March 1993 - US magazine
Interview by Margy Rochin, photos by Lou Salvatore.
The Us Interview: Shannen Doherty (part 3)
(Part 1 – Part 2)
While we're on the subject of high-profile men, let's run through some names of people you've been linked with romantically. Marky Mark?
I went out with Mark two times, with a group of people, as friends.
Jason Priestley? 'US' printed a photo of you two liplocked after the 1991 Emmys.
Really kissing? No, Jason and I probably kissed each other, but I don0t think it was really kissing. I don't think there was any saliva involved. People might get confused because we're very affectionate with one another and that's only because we absolutely adore each other.
You were engaged to a young man named Chris Foufas. What happened?
Idecided that I was too young to get married. Chris is a great person who I love as a friend very much. I think our friendship overtook the romance, and we both weren't ready for that step.
What's the first sign that you know you're in live?
I'll do absolutely anything for that person. If somebody pointed a gun at them, I'd throw muself in front so they wouldn't die. I can forgive the person that I've been dating recently, I feel the exact same way for.
His name is –
I'd rather prefer that no names be mentioned. He knows who he is.
What's the most painful lesson you're learned about romantic love?
Oh, I don't know, I've been through so much in that department... I think the lesson that I learned is that you can't drop everything for one person. I've done that and that person has broken up with me,and I've had nothing. I'd stopped talking to my friends. You can't do that. You've got to say, "I've got my own life, my own identity." I think guys in relationships can be so much more casual than women.
Tumblr media
You've gotten a lot of flak for leading the Pledge of Allegiance at the Republican National Convention. What attracted you to the Republican Party?
Without getting too much into it, because I realize at this point it's probably beat to keep my politics to myself...
Wait a second. Don't you think that you made your politivs public when you decided to attend the convention?
The thing is that this is a free country, and nobody should be criticized for their politivcal beliefs. We're all allowed to have our own opinons... I'm a conservative. I was an avid supporter of Ronald Reagan; I thought he was fabulous. I still think [Bush has] been a good president. I realize that the majority of people in the entertainment business happen to be Democrats. I have no problem with that. And they should have no problem with the fact that I'm a Republican.
Do you think that some people might have taken issue with the fact that you were a young female supporting a party that had not proven itself to be particularly pro-woman?
I don't think that the Republican Party is against women. I don't know how George Bush personally feels on abortion. I have some idea and, from what I understand, he isn't really opposed to abortion. However, the Republican platform was therefore he had to conform to what they wanted.
So you're saying that you're pro-choice?
I would say I'm pro-choice only because I don't feel that it's right that anybody in this world puts restrictions on anyone, whether it be a woman or a man. I think some people are somewhat worried because abortion is legal, it's so easy. It's just like, "Oh, it's no big deal because I can just go get an abortion." That's not really being a very responsible person. But I don't think that that choice should be taken away from anybody. I'm definitely pro-choice.
Tumblr media
In a readers poll in a recent issue of 'Sassy' magazine, you beat Roseanne Arnold and Tori Spelling as "TV Actress Whose Inner Child Is Most Wounded." What do you think thia award says about who they think you are?
I have absolutely no idea. My inner child is not wounded.
Wait. I'm not sure you understand the term correctly. The definition of an inner child might be that everyone has a public self and a true authentic self, which is still inside of us, that was developed when we were a child.
Then maybe it's true. If there is such a thing as an inner child, I don't see how anybody could have so much bad press and not have their inner child wounded. But I had a wonderful childhood. My parents were a dream to me.
What approach do you use to slough off bad press?
I think you're constantly telling yourself you'll ignore it, you'll let it roll off your back, you won't let it affect you – but it does. You read stuff about yourself and you just think, "My God, where are these people coming up with these things? And why am I the one that they're picking on, all of a sudden? Out of all people, why me?" I'm the person who stops and gives any homeless person any money that they want. So if does affect you, but you just have to keep believing in yourself, I guess.
Why should we like you?
I'm not saying that anybody should like me. Everybody is more than welcome to have their own opinion. All I'm saying is give me a chance before you form that opinion. [Pause] It sounds really weird to give you a list of why people should like me. Like tooting your own horn. I could tell you what my good qualities are. There's my honesty; I have a very wacky, kind of dry humor that a lot of people don't get to see; I'm the best friend a person could ever have; I'm very compassionate; I try and helppeople out as much as possible; I really care about this world, about the people in it, and I just want what's best for everyone; I take on absolutely everybody's problems and take care of everyone – I have a very maternal side. I'm basically a very norma,, down-to-earth person, and if people meet me, they agree. They're like, "Wow, you're nothing like people say you are..."
What is the most ridiculous thing you've read about yourself?
That I'm an alcoholic is completely ridiculous. There's so many things, I don't know where to start. I've had so much happen that it's hard to trust people.
There's something that's been bothering me throughout our conversation, and that is the assigning of blame to other people. How responsible do you feel for what has happened to you? Be numerically specific.
I probably feel fifteen percent responsible. In my first year on the show – which was two-and-a-half years ago – I was overwhelmed by so much responsibility and pressure that I didn't handle things in a very diplomatic manner. I took everything to heart. That hasn't happened since the first year of the show, and it's just now coming back to me. I've learned to be very diplomatic. Now it's just like a tidal wave. It's people either needing money,so they sell stories to the Enquirer, or they're jealous of me so they sell storues, or people just making up bulls---. So it is just a tidal wave of things happening and happenning and happening that I don't feel very responsible for.
Delta Burke once said, "I wouldn't be producing if it weren't for bad press." Is this the upside to your situation?
I got the opportunity to meet Delta Burke – we did a literacy show at the White House forMr. Bush. She told me, "Just do what you believe in. Look at me: I have my own TV show now and I deal with nice people, that's what it's all about." So that's sort of what I'm doing at this point, I'm learning.
What's the biggest lesson that you've learned?
To... be... very... clear. To be diplomatic, and to be very careful. There is so much focus on you that you can't just do and say whatever you feel. You have to watch everything that you do and everything that you say.
Have you learned to apologize?
I will apologize if I've done something wring. But if I have not done something wrong, I will not apologize.
Would you give up your notoriety for a little bit of slack?
Yeah, I would. If that means quit acting,no. If it means staying home, better believe it! I'll lock myself in my house for a little slack.
Do you feel the tide is turning for or against you at this point?
Probably against.
You think it's going to get worse?
I don't know how much worse it can get.
What were some of your New Year's resolutions?
Quit smoking. [Takes a drag] Going real well. Get healthy. [Pauses] And somehow turn this thing around.

Dahlia Hawthorne + April May headcanons? (Ship or separate I don’t mind :3 )
(Sorry if this has been done before lol. Anon because I’m a coward)
anon i do not know who you are but i love you dearly and i am kissing your forehead so much right now. i will do all three
DAHLIA HEADCANONS: -born 14 february 1993 -pretty strong! like she literally swam through raging rivers without. dying. so -she loves books and reading and poetry (the poetry one is canon i think oops) -she has aspd (not in a "murderer character must me sociopath!11!" way but in a I Actually Read The DSM For Fun When I Was 9 And Also Know That Demonising Cluster B Disorders Is Bad) -her red hair isn't natural, she dyed it when she went into hiding as "melissa foster" -speaking of hair, her and iris did that braid crown hairstyle as children, until the bridge incident when iris "betrayed" dahlia and dahlia got so pissed she cut her hair to about the length you see in that one 3-4 cg -refuses to take help from anyone when shes sick but WILL use it to get out of things -did not actually help get iris seperated from her. that was a lie to make herself seem more in control -lesbian
APRIL HEADCANONS: -born april 30 1993 (duh) -passenger princess. do not trust this woman behind the wheel. -has three siblings. february march (33) june july (13) and august september (3) -i have an insane amount of backstory headcanon for her so please ask me about that my dms are always open -related to above, she was a child beauty queen/reality tv person (2-7) and teen model (13-20) -she LOVES romcoms. so much -natural hair color is a mousey brown. it got dyed pink when she was 2 due to . child beauty queen -has HORRIBLE nightmares. rip queen! -owns one of those fucking lipstick tazers. like despicable me 2. -also a lesbian! was in denial for most of her life ("well, men like ME so obviously i like them") before being like "wow im gay. but im still going to flirt with men because theyre more likely to give me their credit card info" -she has a cat :) -she has all the mental illnesses that i have because i am her and she is me. hpd, bpd, anorexia, ptsd shes me fr -related to the above, she doesnt take it seriously. "yeah i have ptsd, proficient talent for sucking dick" type shit DOLLYHEARTS HEADCANONS: -they meet when they're both about 13-14 years old -dahlia, or, "melissa" as april first knows her is in boarding school because shes in hiding as melissa foster -april, on the other hand, got sent to boarding school because her mom was not good at dealing with a daughter who belonged in either thirteen (2003) or euphoria. she generally acted WAY too grown for her age and was pretty self destructive. she was also a model for bluecorp and would pose for their billboards as well as other companies and magazines -the pair quickly become High School Girl Best Friends. hooray. -things get yurious up in that bitch -this continues for many many years until they r in college. theyre sort of in this weird in between situationship phase and are also Highly toxic and somewhat codependent. -neither of them are being normal about it -things get even more toxic yurious when doug gets thrown into the mix. this poor man . pls let him live -dahlia commits murder goes to jail yada yada they write letters to each other half of which are death threats that they cover in kisses and lipstick marks and hearts -and then april goes to jail -AND THEY WERE CELLMATES! -more toxic yuri happens -dahlia gets executed -april gets executed -ghost yuri

AL.com: Legendary R&B singer retiring after 54 years: ‘It’s been a great ride through the decades’
Frankie Beverly, the charismatic frontman of Maze, has announced that he’ll retire this year, after a farewell tour with the R&B band that made him famous.
Tumblr media
Six shows were announced this week for Beverly’s “I Wanna Thank You Farewell Tour,” including an April 6 concert at the Mobile Fairgrounds, also known as The Grounds. The dates start on March 22 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, and end on May 12 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. More tour stops will be announced in the weeks and months to come, according to a press release.
Tumblr media
Beverly, 77, is a favorite in Alabama, playing to cheering crowds at concert venues and festivals throughout the state. His signature tunes with Maze range from electric funk to romantic jams to classic R&B, and include “Southern Girl,” “Back in Stride,” “We Are One,” “Golden Time of Day,” “Can’t Get Over You,” “The Morning After,” “Joy and Pain” and “Happy Feelin’s.”
Fans needn’t worry, however, that the band will be defunct when Beverly makes his exit. He plans to hand the microphone to Tony Lindsay, best known as the lead singer for Santana. The band name will change when Beverly leaves, transitioning from Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly to Maze Honoring Frankie Beverly.
Tumblr media
“I want to share with my lifelong fans and associates that I’ll be going out on the road one last time, then retire,” Beverly said in a statement to Billboard magazine. “Thank you so much for the support given to me for over 50 years as I pass on the lead vocalist torch to Tony Lindsay. The band will continue on as Maze Honoring Frankie Beverly. It’s been a great ride through the decades. Let the music of my legacy continue.”
Tumblr media
Beverly founded Maze in 1970 in his hometown of Philadelphia, initially calling the group Raw Soul. The band changed its name in the mid-’70s, released several albums, 1977-1993, and developed a loyal following throughout the country. Beverly’s all-white attire on stage is one of his trademarks, along with his smooth baritone voice and ability to connect with the crowd.

Beverly and Maze have performed many times in Birmingham over the years, at venues that range from Boutwell Auditorium to the Alabama Theatre to the former City Stages festival. A concert typically becomes a big ol’ dance party when Beverly and Maze take the stage; in fact, some ticketholders have been known to bring maracas and use them for appreciative percussion.
Beverly’s farewell tour is produced by the Black Promoters Collective. “Beverly is embarking in this farewell tour before slowing down to enjoy life in his California Bay Area home,” a press release says. The artist plans to “complete the tour with several major city stops. He’ll then make his way to Philadelphia for a street renaming ceremony in the city where he and his group launched their phenomenal musical legacy.”

Here are the shows announced thus far for the tour:
March 22, State Farm Arena, Atlanta, Georgia.
April 6. Mobile County Fairgrounds, Mobile, Alabama.
April 13, Toyota Arena, Houston, Texas.
April 27, United Center, Chicago, Illinois.
May 12, KIA Forum, Los Angeles, California.
July 6, Dell Music Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
