Ok I’ve talked before about Dionysus and Perseus’s parallels now I wanna talk about Ariadne and Andromeda’s parallels:

- Both where abandoned by the first men they were to marry, abandoned at their lowest no less, Ariadne left her home and family to be with Theseus only to be abandoned on the island of Naxos. Andromeda was abandoned by Phineus, when she was to be sacrificed to Cetus and he didn’t even try to rescue her, then he had the audacity to demand her back.

- Both were rescued by their future husbands when they were at their lowest.

-While there is very little about their lives after the marriage, we know that they remained by their husbands sides, When Perseus went to Argos to confront Acrisius, Andromeda was by his side. When Dionysus was spreading his cult all over Greece, Ariadne fought alongside him.

- Both had lots of sons lol

My Hero Forge Digital Kitbashing Creations — "Who Wears Scale Mail Just on the Left Side, Anyway?" Edition

So, my favorite Iconic Character from D&D 3E/3.5E was Ragnara the Psychic Warrior from the Psionics Handbook. I've posted about my attempt to recreate her in Hero Forge before.

But now Hero Forge has implemented a new Digital Kitbashing feature where they let Pro subscribers have access to most every part from their library, to be resized and posed anywhere.

This meant I could finally get a lot closer to her source material art:

I know when it comes to D&D Iconic characters, she's a bit on the obscure side, but Wizards of the Coast did make a blind-box mini of her, and third party mini manufacturer Reaper had a sculpt that was clearly inspired by her (image is not my paint job).

Hero Forge Kitbashing has only been out since Monday, so I'm still learning it, but the results are impressive all the same.

Well. Such was the glory of Dionysus, lord of the torches. It’s Dio nowdays. Dio Theoinos among the mortal crowds, hot-shot producer/director and King of the Great White Way. (Dɪᴏɴysᴜs is awfully stiff and old-timey, don’t you think? Something a little catchier was in order for the new age.) Unseated from Olympus like the rest of his family when new deities came into power, he’s done pretty well for himself since; he has a handful of accidental cults, a few modern maneads, small businesses in popular cities and the like—nothing spectacular, but certainly enough to get by on. A bit of prayer here and there, a few starving artists looking for a bit of luck, and bam!, he’s back in business. Maybe not running at full capacity, but not exactly putzing around on empty.

Dio is about what you’d expect of him; formerly a blinding force of joy and freedom, he still upholds the right to artistic expression and creativity…it just comes a little more tempered at his advanced age and decreased popularity. He is often surly and unamused, feeling usurped, and while quick to offense, he is equally quick to forgive. Dionysus is a fickle god at best. He loves humanity better than much of his family, but he still views mortals as weak and disposable. Sassy, snarky, witty, and sharp-tongued, Dio spends much of his time among the mortal rabble, and has picked up a few of their habits; but being immortal, he tries not to get too attached.

I am 100% on the side of they are eidolons who left feymarch to do their own (generally destructive) thing. So in the cave of eidolons, one npc says

Of course it could be about the monsters, but like... Giant element-themed intelligent and un-aging creature fits right in what eidolons would be.

And if TAY amount to anything to you, they are controlled by the maneads the exact same way Rydia's summons are.

My personnal interpretation is that they were too proud and selfish (all their title refer to some kind of ruling) to find their place in feymarch and instead decided to go in the surface world and do their own thing there. Comes in Golbez who... is kind of arguably a summoner? He absolutely summoned that dragon, right? Anyway to me, the four fiends were never able to not relapse in their eidolon nature and still found themselves pledging allegeance to a "summoner" even if it might never been clear on any side.

But of course, nothing outright says it. FFIV isn't the kind of world with clear cut explanation for everything, the limit between eidolons and monsters (like dragons), peaceful creatures (chocobo) and humans (king of Baron) is thin and blurry. I actually kind of want to explore the possibility of Zemus creating them too.

Okay, FFIV fans, riddle me this:

My Hero Forge 2.0 Creations — Ragnara, Psychic Warrior: Update

So I've posted about her before, but here's the rundown for whoever may have missed it.

Back when Wizards of the Coast took over Dungeons & Dragons, one of their decisions for the new third edition (as well as the 3.5e that soon followed) was to develop “Iconic Characters” for each character class, for consistency in art direction and to aid in marketing.

In addition to the Iconics for the classes from the Players' Handbook, classes introduced in other sourcebooks like the Psionics Handbook got them too.

Out of all the Iconic Characters, my favorite was Ragnara, who was the Iconic for the Psychic Warrior class. (I have a thing for crystal swords, OK?) While there have been both official and unofficial miniatures of her in the past, I had wanted to recreate her in Hero Forge to have my own take on the character.

That's a render from Hero Forge's 3D builder, and this week I finally got a physical print.

I particularly like how well their translucent plastic coloring options turned out. That alone puts this version well ahead of the official and unofficial ones.

I also feel she's a good match for the reference art I was working against. In particular, Hero Forge had a crystal shield that looked like it was taken right from Ragnara's Epic Level portrait.

Additionally, it took a few iterations as more facial decal options were added, but I was able to find a good approximation of her eye makeup (tattoos?). These are even quite distinct on the physical print.

For comparison, here Wizards of the Coast's Official Mini. For something mass produced for blind boxes, It's serviceable, but I do like mine better. Where this one does excel however, is her unique one-sided scale mail armor, something that can't yet be done in Hero Forge

Third-Party miniatures manufacturer Reaper had their own unofficial, legally-distinct-for-purposes-of-IP-law take on the character, originally named “Dara, Psionic Warrior” (but it looks like they may have re-titled that catalog number entry since then). I took inspiration for the posing of her sword in my version from here.

So I have an idea for a fic

Originally it was supposed to be a Marcaniel fic where Marc got dress coded and got akumatized into Anarchy, a villain who can make anyone go against the law, kinda like Reverser did with Officer Roger in his episode

But now there’s 7 of them

We have:

Anarchy- Marc as explained above

Ataxia- Mylene, got stopped in the middle of a protest, makes people grow a hatred for fossil fuels and plastic and destroy stuff that uses that (cars, phones, literally anything man made)

Nihilism- Juleka, she gets hopeless and upset because she feels like her life is the same thing over and over again, she can make people ignore their morals and go batshit crazy (search up the villain names, explains their powers)

Calamity- Aurore, loses her job as a weather girl with Mirellie, her powers are like Stormy Weather’s but natural disasters instead of weather

Riot- Nino almost gets arrested for being at a harmless rave that just didn’t have a permit, he can make people go into an uncontrollable frenzy of rage or extreme party-mode (kinda like the maneads of Dionysus in Rick Riordan, they’re just crazy)

Adversity- Zoe gets fed up with Chloe using her status and gets the power to make the lives of anyone who abuses their power miserable/difficult with extreme bad luck

Discord- Luka gets angry because I’m the middle of some son-father bonding time he gets a fine because he was too loud so his ability is to make things as loud as possible. Cars honk, phones ring and bing, movies and TVs are all the way up, and the only way to stop the noise is too destroy the item that’s causing it, and because of this, the superheroes have a hard time hearing each other

I think their villain group name would be PANDEMONIUM and they would all get akumatized through a phone call that they’re all on. With Zoe akumatized, it would also allow Chloe to get some sweet character development.

I want to write this but I’m not sure if I’ll have the motive to finish it once I start it.

Blind dates

The library had been set up in such a sweet little display, different reading nooks decked out to the fullest, wine, soda and snacks easily available, and of course everyone done up in their sunday best. Shuska smiled and looked about before unlocking the doors and making sure the sign in the archway above was settled nicely before nodding. 

Stepping inside she clapped her hands to get everyones attention before speaking. 

“Alright everyone, you know the rules! Keep yourselves open, keep a smile if you can hold it, and no hanky panky in the library!” she called out, a soft laugh echoing from the menagerie of trolls gathered for the event.
