Chainsaw Man is one of my favorite stories because it never shies away from the hard questions. How do you form meaningful relationships after sexual trauma? How do you escape the cycle of abuse when it becomes more comfortable to you than "normal" life? How are the bonds you forge and the family you build stronger than what you were born into? And now, its newest philosophical quandary, just how cursed would elephants look if the concept and existence of ears were erased from the world!

Do you have a preferred Dark Urge outside of your own OC? Do you ever find it difficult to read other people’s Dark Urge fics, whether it’s because of their interpretation of the character, or their appearance? What’s your opinion on ‘Default Dark Urge’ and their argued canon status?

Oh what an interesting question anon!

I'll start by saying I ADORE default Durge, I think it's a sick design and a fabulous vocal performance, but I don't believe there is a canon status when it comes to ANYTHING in D&D. Certain things may adopt a worldstate but I refute canon in anything based in this system.

As far as preferred Dark Urges I would legitimately find it really hard to chose individuals because there are so many I strongly like, probably more than Tavs, and I'd be worried I'd miss one off. I read very extensively in the tags because there are some really incredibly creative takes on it. And I guess that's what I'm always looking for. Whether its changeling lore, or exploring body horror, or looking at the whole Bhaalspawn gender and breeding theme through a trans lens, or exploring cult dynamics, I'm always interested when people take a really good strong critical eye to a theme. There's SO many incredibly dynamic takes out there, I'm truly in awe of the fandom for that.

I read across redeemed and non-redeemed Durge too, as a point - I really love the case for both and as long as an author can sell me on motivation, I'm down. I guess that's where it can fall down for me. I'm not interested in a Dark Urge being attractive unless you explore WHY Bhaal made their spawn a smokeshow - is it to seduce, to be an attractive prospect for breeding? Similarly, why did he make them their race, their build, why would they be a Drow, or a Dwarf? What's their relationship to the world around them? Anything that's certain of its own lore, that takes creative risks, that has a well-drawn character, I'm likely to love.
