Pierre had arrived in Moscow a few days before and stayed at his father’s house, he foresaw that the ladies who lived there would influence his father against him, Anna Mikhailovna and the other two regarded hostilely. He asks to see the Count but is told he is ill and is accused of causing most of his suffering, go see him if he wants to kill him. (you being a bitter asshole to Pierre won’t ingratiate him to you when he has money) The next day Vasili arrived and also told Pierre not to see Count Bezukhof and from there Pierre was left alone. He spent the time imagining he were Napoleon taking on London when Boris approached him. As Pierre tried to remember who he was Boris invited him to dine with Count Rostof. “We here in Moscow are more taken up with dinners and gossip than with politics.”p.41 Boris comments that it seems everyone is taking an interest in Count Bezukhof, to see his estate of course, not him and his mother, they are not willing to receive anything. Pierre would like to get better acquainted with Boris who changed the conversation to Napoleon until the footman came to fetch him.

After Anna Mikhailovna left, Countess Rostoff dabbed her eyes and has the maid fetch the Count who was just sampling the sauté, she needs money, five hundred rubles, he’ll give it to her. (with absolutely no question of what that money is for) He has Mitenka bring seven hundred new bills. When Anna Mikhailovna returned from visiting Count Bezukhof she noticed the Countess was excited. Anna told her Count Bezukhof is in a terrible state, hardly speaking, the Countess interrupts to give her the money for Boris’s outfit. Anna hugged her and wept they both did. “They wept because they were friends, and because they were kind-hearted, and because, having been friends from childhood, they were now occupied with such a sordid matter as money, and because their youth had passed. But theirs were pleasant tears.”p.43

The Countess Rostof, her daughters and guests, sat in the drawing room, they were all waiting for Marya Dmitrievna Akhrosimova, the terrible dragon, while some laughed at her brusque manners they all respected and feared her. (oh so she’s the queen bitch) The conversation in the study turned to the war that was declared through a manifesto no one’s read yet. Shinshin and Lieutenant Berg were talking, Berg commented that he was getting two hundred and thirty, bragging of his success over being transferred to the Guards. As they waited for the main guest Pierre came in before dinner started and gained a few glances from those that heard the bear story. He hasn’t seen the Count, so the Countess asks about his time in Paris. The Countess signaled to Anna to take charge of him, leaving the Countess to go into the hall and find Marya. 

When she entered the room all the ladies stood and she starts to greet her hosts and demands Pirre to come over to tell him the truth, like she did his father. She shames him for partying while his father is dying, he should have gone to war, then says it’s time for dinner. They file out in couples and sat in order of importance and whose clamor drowned out the private band. (look how poor we are we can only afford one string quartet) The men's end of the table was talking about the war with Napoleon. The German Colonel took offense to Shinshin, Marya demanded to know what all the noise is about the Count told her war, his son is going she says she has four if they die it is God’s will. (what a loving mother you ae) “You may die at home lying on your bed, or God may bring you safe out of battle,”p.48 The dinner finishes and they retreat to the drawing room and study.

The harp and cords were played, the children were urged to sing but when Natasha could not find Sonya went to look for her. She found her in the corridor (all the women cry there) sitting on a chest crying and Natasha started to cry too as Nikolai is going away in a week. She shouldn’t cry but no one can understand what a noble heart he has. She tells Natasha Boris is good for her but as Nikolai is her cousin (I see you take after the Hapsburgs) the archbishop would have to give permission and Mama would say she’s spoiling his career and would be heartless. (not to mention gross) She loves them all except Vera and Natasha assumes Vera said something, she found their notes and was going to show them to their mother, that she would never allow her to marry Nikolai, he’s going to marry Julie. Natasha tells her not to believe Vera, it will be all right, it can be arranged, Nikolai will tell her mother and he doesn’t care about Julie, as Sonya cheers up Natasha wants her to come sing.

The musicians were beginning to tire as the guests danced, Count Bezukhof had a fit of epilepsy and the doctors had no hope for him and rights were undertaken. The governor came to bid farewell after seeing the governor to the door Vasili went to speak to his cousin Catherine to speak of business. Now is the time to think of contingencies, the future, themselves, he loves them all like his own children. She, her sisters and his wife are the Count’s only heirs, he’s sixty, he must be ready for anything, he had to fetch Pierre for the Count. Last winter the Count signed a will, everything to Pierre, nothing for them. Catherine counters that he’s made many wills and Pierre is illegitimate, but if he wrote to them emperor to legitimize him. “The princess smiled that smile of superiority peculiar to people who think they know more about any matter than those with whom they are talking.”p.53 

Vasili tells her the letter has been written but not sent but the emperor knows about it, if it has not been destroyed all is over, Pierre will inherit it all. (then you should be acting nice to him) Catherine is angry at the implication she is stupid, (well...) she knows an illegitimate heir cannot inherit. Vasili explains if he is legitimized, he won’t be just Pierre but Count Bezukhof, if the will and letter aren't destroyed but Catherine is still indignant until Vasili says the Count’s lawyer says the same thing he is trying to explain. She says it’s fine, she played her dutiful role and here’s the recognition for it. (you’re waiting around for your father to die like a vulture) Fine she's never desired anything anyway, she's soured against the whole human race as Vasili tries to implore her to find the papers and destroy them while there's time and she frustratingly tells him where it's hidden as she rants about Anna Mikhailovna.

Meanwhile Pierre and Anna Mikhailovna were being driven to the Count’s estate and he wonders if the Conut didn’t call for him, Anna tells him to be a man his father is dying. (yeah Pierre man up don’t let people push you around and not let you see your dying father) Pierre followed Anna to a part of the house he's never been, they pass the room where Vasili and Catherine are speaking, and Catherine slams the door. Anna wasn’t surprised and told Pierre to be a man, she’ll look after his interests. (well looking out for your interests in the guise of his interests) The reception room had others whispering to each other who ceased when seeing the two. After a moment Vasili comes in, Pierre notes he looks paler and thinner and tells Pierre his father wishes to see him. Catherine, a confessor priest and older domestics, the adjutant, a strange lady and a servant followed him as if it weren't necessary to ask permission anymore. No one spoke but for the murmur of the priest's services and Pierre noticed Catherine and Vasili quietly leave and return. At Anna’s mention the Count was carried to his bed and Pierre saw his eyes gave no recognition. The Count didn’t speak or move to acknowledge his son's presence for a few minutes as Anna gestured for Pierre to do things until the Count let out a hoarse sound and tried to raise his arm and smile, Pierre teared up as Anna told them to leave so he could sleep.

No one was in the reception room except Vasili and Catherine, who stopped talking when seeing Pierre and Anna. Vasili told Anna to come have tea in the little drawing room, during balls Pierre would stay there and watch the ladies pass in their finery. (so he’s socially awkward) Pierre noticed Anna left them and was speaking angerly to Catherine, that her uncle needs rest, Catherine said she didn’t even know what was in the portfolio just this is his will and a paper he forgot. Anna begs her to have pity on him and they fight for the portfolio, Catherine called for Vasili to interfere so loud all in the drawing room turned to look. Catherine called Anna a vile schemer to meddle in matters that don’t concern her and to make a scene. (says the bitch who’s trying to scheme their half-brother out of his title and inheritance) Vasili tells them both to drop it, he’ll go and ask but Anna interrupts that the count needs rest and for Pierre to give his opinion. Vasili says she’ll pay for the consequences and Catherine calls her vile, snatching the portfolio. 

Then the door opened, and the second sister scolded them that he is dying, Anna quickly picked up the dropped portfolio and rushed into the death chamber. Catherine and Vasili followed and returned after a few moments, Catherine giving Pierre a look of hatred. She went to cry and Vasili collapsed in despair and tears. Anna comes out kisses Pierre’s head and tells him the Count died and leads him to the dark drawing room. When she returns, he is asleep, the next morning she told him it’s a great loss to all but him, (his father just died) but God will support him, she knows it won’t turn his head, (that’s what you think) but he has duties now and must be a man. Anna mentions his father didn’t have the time to help her son, but Pierre failed to see what she was hinting at. (really didn’t think this through Anna) Later Anna told the Rostofs the details of the Count’s death, a little embellished and the behavior of Catherine and Vasili.

Prince Andrei and his wife were expected at Nikolai Bolkonsky’s (so many Nikiolais in this book) estate. Count Bolkonsky was in exile there during emperor Paul's reign, even after the new reign he was free to go but stayed. He took up his daughter's education as, “He declared that there were only two sources of human vice, idleness and superstition; and only two virtues, activity and intellegence.”p.63 He busied himself with studies and activities, he was harsh and exacting but every official made it a duty to pay respects. That morning he was working at his lathe and tells his daughter Maria he’ll read the letter from Julie, fearing she writes too much nonsense and showed her geometric designs. She was overcome with fear and didn’t understand as her father asked how she could be so stupid, so Maria returned to her chambers. 

She read Julie Karagina’s letter, she’s sad they’re so far apart and flatters Maria then goes on to say all of Moscow is talking about the war that deprived her of her love, Nikolai Rostof. The chief news is the death of Count Bezukhof and how Pierre inherited everything and declared legitimate. It’s claimed Vasili played a poor part in it and returned to Petersburg; she doesn’t know much about it but women with marriageable daughters have changed their behavior towards him. (well it is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife) Speaking of, Anna Mikhailovna mentioned to her the plan for Maria to marry Vasili’s son Anatol who needs to marry for wealth and distinction, she was sworn to secrecy about it but felt it her duty to tell her.

Andrei arrived and knowing noithing disturbed his father’s day, went to see Maria, the two sisters-in-law embraced each other and kissed their hands and faces. Maria asked Andrei if he was really going to war, yes tomorrow. As Lisa began to cry about it, Andrei just says she needs rest and to go lie down as he sees his father. Maria says their father’s just the same as he’s always been, Andrei wasn’t blind to his weakness. When the twenty minutes of their father’s nap was over Andrei went to see him, he was the only variation in his life he allowed. His father asked about the upcoming war, the quarters for his wife are all ready, feeling the urgency of the questions Andrei explained how the armies would fan out. 

At the hour they went to the dining room, Andrei found amusement in a new frame depicting the genealogical tree of the Bolkonsky’s. Lisa felt fear and reverence of the Count but still but still didn’t wish to hear his words as she was so depressed until she heard the latest gossip. Then Count Nikolai Bolkonsky had enough and spoke exclusively to Mikkail Ivanovitch about Napoleon and his son wondered how a hermit knew all these politics in Europe. Lisa watched, not saying anything until after dinner, the Count’s brilliance is probably why Maria is afraid of him. (probably a few other reasons)

The next day Andrei was to depart, and his father made no change to his routine, his wife was with Maria. “If men are ever inclined to think about their actions, the moment when they are leaving home and embarking upon some new course of life is certain to induce a serious frame of mind.”p.73 The past is reviewed, future plans made, Andrei was thoughtful, was it terrible he was leaving for war, to leave his wife. Maria came to see him and is scornful to remind him Lisa wasn’t brought up like them, this is hard on her to leave society and just have her, their father and Mlle. He’s good to everyone but has the sin of prideful intellect, they all can't enjoy this life like her, only hardship is their father's approach to religious things. but lately he has been giving in, Andrei says it’s a waste of their power to convince him. She has her brother promise, take her blessing of a little medal passed down in their family. Again, Maria tells him not to judge Lisa harshly, he claims never to find fault in or be vexed with her, (liar) has someone been talking to her, Lisa had. Andrei felt sorry for his sister he says he never found fault in her, never will if she’s not happy he doesn’t know why, (liar) they go so he can say goodbye to her. 

At night they all were summoned to Nikolai’s study to bid a private goodbye and he thanks Andrei, thanks him for putting service before all. Andrei tells him it's time for his wife to be confined for her pregnancy (also called lying-in were women who are close to giving birth stay indoors or on bed for a few months and one month after birth it was a precaution believed to help prevent complications) and to send for an obstetrician, she's afraid. The Count calls it bad business and reminds him it will be hard for him if he dies but he’ll be ashamed if he behaves unworthy of a son of Nikolai Bolkonsky. Andrei has another request, if he has a son to raise him here and his father laughs at the implication to not let Lisa have it. (foreshadowing) Andrei tells his goodbyes to the others before leaving and his father shook his head at the fainted Lisa before slamming the door after him.

but first - the flag in my pfp is the agender flag but the colors were picked from touyas sdsc trained card! ((you can pick the aromantic and agender flags from them and it makes me so happy hehe))

but now. jun insanity moment time. ((warning. this may be long))

uhmm idk how much i will end up putting here since. im not the best with words but. magical girl au with the gamer quartet.

i just think. pink leader emu would be so fun,, im drawing a lot of dynamic and design philosophies from precure so thats where that decision came from. the cute tiney girl with the big ass hammer being the leader is so amusing to me listen. Listen.

also the progression of who joins the team is emu -> nene -> akito -> touya

i really like the idea of touya being the more. almost aloof one whos hesitant to join the team and would prefer to work alone. that sort of concept but not exactly if you will hehe. there is an interval between nene joining compared to akito and touya. the latter two are somewhat close to precure's late cure concept. slightly.

emu and nene are established as close friends from the beginning in the au anyways so that lends itself to make the dynamic easy to build from. im still trying to figure out how to fill the void in how this blends akito and touya with this starting duo. but i like to think that touya got his powers even before akito but. kept it a secret from him (which he wish he didnt have to but you know). so when the two found out abt each other having powers. just. woah?!?!? spiderman pointing meme or smth ig.

i also should add the designs for them in general was drawn from that cutesy space/cyber aes along with very vaguely. sea slugs.

its been referenced and shown on one of my posts but their partners. emu -> crocodile, nene -> owl, akito -> wolf, touya -> panda. all based off of the animals they chose in close game offline :) they are silly little friends and the team has to pretend theyre little plushies to avert suspicions hfdjs

and similarly for their weapons. emu -> big fucking hammer. nene -> laser sniper. akito -> serraded knives. touya -> thats a secret ;)

TBH touya is an interesting chara in this au very mysterious very funky. he is super powerful but doesnt have full control over his powers yet. i will leave it at that. augh.

they have to fight off the forces that are created from the build up of negative feelings drawn from sekais that are able to phase into the real world. these said feelings are ones that have gone haywire and all. for the most part the team can use their cellphones to detect these. monsters. and fight them. they typically arent seen by the normal eye but there are some who are so powerful that can override that.

overall this au diverges from canon and theres a handful of things drawn from said canon that ive altered for the sake of this au making sense but. its my silly au i get to make the silly rules and it means so much to me aaadhjksaaaaaaa

there is also a pkmn au that keeps going in and out of my head. and my bf and i created a team for touya. milotic, miraidon, ceruledge, lucario, corviknight, decidueye. this au doesnt have a lot to it as of rn but also. emu with tinkaton. its so necessary. that mon is Meant for emu. oh yeah and akito has amarouge to compliment touya. hehe. yeas.

i have. more aus. but theyre not super developed enough for me to talk extensively abt them but they sure exist in my head.

im drawing a piece of the AE quartet bc i love them and halfway through i realized i dont know exactly how i want to make their faces different so now im doing doodle ref sheets of each of their faces. i have sunday and dan hengs done and im obsessed with it grrr especially dan heng. i had the idea to like combine his normal and vidyadhara form (its essentially just his vidyadhara form with shorter hair) and. hes so pretty. im going insane

you can blame this one on @sonar-taxlaw chatting me up yesterday abt (human) kathmath and derrick hanging out in their downtime

If it's not a day he has to pitch, Derrick usually falls back to sleep after Shaq's alarm goes off, drifting off as he listens to them putter around the house and get ready to head out to the Firehouse. Today, Shaq doesn't let him - Derrick barely has his eyes shut before he's being urgently shaken awake by the shoulder.

"What," he says into his pillow.

"Your teammate's outside," Shaq says. "The scary one."

That narrows it down a bit, but not enough. And Derrick's hard-pressed to think why one of the Thieves would come all the way here, to Chicago, on a game day when he's not pitching. Unless -

"Shit," Derrick says, springing out of bed so fast that Shaq gives a little startled jump. It's only a few days since the Thieves suffered an incineration on the field; this can only be someone who two-stepped here to tell him about another one.

His adrenaline is so high that he only realizes halfway to the door that he's just in sweatpants and one of Shaq's Sonic the Hedgehog tank tops that hangs too loose on him. Not that he's particularly modest, but he still grabs a flannel draped over the back of a kitchen chair and tugs it on as he heads through to the front of the house, affording himself a little more protection against the blast of cold air that comes when he opens the door.

"Who died?" he asks Kath, who is standing on the porch wearing a thick wool coat and a perfectly neutral expression.

"No one," Kath says. Ver truck is idling in front of the house, keys still in the ignition. "Get dressed. I brought coffee."

"The sun's not up yet," Derrick says.

"Astute observation."

"And you don't know my coffee order."

"It's black. There's room for cream and sugar if you want it." Kath folds hir arms over hir chest, mouth set into a thin, impatient line.

The urge to shut the door, turn around, and crawl back into bed is strong, but his curiosity is stronger. Derrick sighs.

"Where are we going?"

"To see a jazz quartet," Kath says, like it should be obvious.

"At six in the morning."

"You like jazz," Kath says. It's not a question. Xe catches Derrick still looking quizzically at xem, and says, "It's in Michigan. I wanted to get an early start."

"We can't two-step there?" Derrick asks, looking mournfully at the first glow of sunlight just barely peeking its way over the horizon.

"I like to drive," Kath says. Ey pause, then add, "I needed the distraction."

That's the first thing ae's said that Derrick understands completely. He inclines his head in a slight nod, and turns in the doorway, faintly aware of Shaq still banging around upstairs.

"Let me get my shoes," he says.

Was it Love? from JTBC wasn't really on my radar until like few days ago and it was mostly due to the fact that I know and like Song Ji Hyo and Son Ho Joon and the story did sound very cute and simple. Just an easy, fun watch.

And the summer is just such a good time to watch more stuff - and I started my summer vacation yesterday, so I have time to add more dramas to my watch list (not that it having no time has ever stopped me before).

The story is quite straightforward and simple. And also quite cliche as the female lead is going to be in a quartet of some sorts. At some point all of the guys are going to fall for her, just like they did in the past and it's ether going to be super cute or quite annoying depending on how well it will be done and how much the drama manages to make you root for each guy. I am the kind of person who doesn't really get second lead syndrome so we will see how well I deal with them all pining after the girl.

 But I do like good pining in my rom-coms so it might just end up being very enjoyable. As long as non of them feel this entitlement towards the female lead and her feelings as they were the ones who liked her first and therefor have dips on her. And only think about how they feel and not how she might actually feel like they have some ownership over her due to their feelings for her then all will be good and I will enjoy the story tugging us in all different directions as the drama might not reveal who is the father of her child or who she is really truly in love with. 

But maybe the drama will surprise me and it won't draw it out. Or maybe I will actually find it enjoyable. I just have serious war-flashbacks from watching the Reply series where that sort of stuff was in abundance (not the who is the father bit.. but the other stuff). And what a coincidence that two of the guys were actually in that show. Just in different seasons of it. 

So far, I really enjoyed myself. I found all of the characters likable in their own way. Some have yet to be totally fleshed out for me (like the soon to be hollywood actor) but I find the mother-daughter bits very endearing, the daughters quest to find her father did tug at my heartstrings, and Noh Ae Jung is a very likable main lead and I love how much this show just revolves around her.

I don't find any of the characters really outside the box when it comes to kdrama characters and some of it does feel quite paint-by-numbers as I have watched quite a lot of kdrama rom-coms over the years. But it is familiar and likable, and easy to watch.

I won't say that I know for certain who she will pick. It looks like the teacher guy and the novelist are in the forefront of that race atm, and they do feel most like the two male leads in a kdrama with their personalities and their ties to the female lead. I do however think that I won't be too surprised by the things that will happen in this show. I wasn't really shocked by how things came about in these two episodes. But that doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy them. Because I enjoyed them a whole lot. 

And honestly I wasn't really looking for much else when it came to that show. And I just hope it continues to be a fun, easy watch. I just want some cute as rom-com that you don't need to think to much as you watch it. And Was it Love might just be that for me this summer. Just something feel-good and easy.
