I'm out on the porch hemming my jeans 👖 the old fashioned way 🪡🧵... And I started one of the imaginary conversations I used to make up in my head.
This time it was with some snooty fashion person noticing that my hems aren't perfect, and trying to get by with some snide comment.
These days though, I call that bullshit out. I used to be shamed and have to fight back in my imaginary conversations (or IRL if I am having to verbally self defend). No more...
My mind flashed through several come backs.
Like: You don't get to say it's not good enough, you're not wearing them
Like, you're gonna try and tell me I'm not allowed to like what I like? Fuckin KILLJOY.
Like, heh, YOU'RE just jealous because YOU can't sew. 🪡🧵
Love what you love. We're all weirdos.
Be weird.
Chase Joy.
Life is short.

“Letting Trump win won’t do any good.”
“So you hate Palestinians and want them to die?”
Three more weeks, then I can stop seeing this stupid discourse cross my dash over and over

I had a dream a while ago that I was walking down a winding road in a forest in the middle of the night and there were several signs along the road. One of them had a picture of Dr house on it and it said “are you gay” and there were two buttons underneath labeled yes and no. And if you pressed the yes button a fire hose would spray at you

“There’s no platonic explanation for this and it’s just people caring about each other’s well being—“ hey quick question: one, what do you think romantic partners do for each other, and two, why does this always seem to get brought up when homoerotic stuff happens

i think the wide misuse of the term "cringe culture is dead" to mean either:
"if anyone thinks im annoying theyre a regressive bully"
OR
"sparkledogs are cool again! cringecore!"
can be remedied with the idea that yes, people can dislike you for random innocuous reasons such as thinking you're annoying (this hurts to come to terms with but it's true! even you think some people are annoying! that's just human nature!)
however! the line that "cringe culture is dead" intends to draw is the fact that when someone finds another person annoying or weird, they can vent about it to their friends or avoid you, this is inevitable, but it's not okay to harrass people or put someones face and name and interests on blast and make public compilations of "cringe" people to laugh at, which is bullying
the cornerstone of "cringe culture" has always been the existence of "cringe compilations" or turning a human being into a large scale source of entertainment and ridicule for things that aren't actually seriously hurting other people
when it comes to CringeCore being a new aesthetic, thats all well and good too, but some people who say "cringe culture is dead" in that case will also readily turn around and publicly bully people who aren't being cringe in the way that's Cool Now, which is a problem
TLDR: the use of "cringe culture is dead" to either mean "certain aesthetics are cool now" or "nobody is ever allowed to find me annoying" overlooks the origins of cringe culture, which has always been the public, large scale ridicule of people who are commonly seen as weird or annoying, such as cringe compilations or lolcowing. this is the cringe culture that is dead, and should stay dead.
nobody is exempt from being disliked for petty reasons, and that is a completely normal fact of life
