DPXDC Prompt #58 Part 4

The living room and kitchen were deserted, neither Danny nor Jazz expected anyone as it was normal for their parents to essentially live in the basement only coming up for meals once or twice a month to ‘eat as a family’, these would consist mostly of fast food as no one trusted anything cooked in their kitchen.

They shared a glance as they opened the basement door and headed down. The dimly lit basement held the giant hole in the wall, the so-called portal, a massive metal spectacle with wires and interconnected circuitry met together to create an unholy abomination of science. Or at least that’s what Jazz called it once when they were in her room venting about the situation. 

“JAZZ!! DANNY!!” their overzealous father yelled as he bounded over.

Their mom walked over too, seeming to be happy for their return, “your father and I could barely contain our excitement all day!! Go on put on your hazmat suits.” their mom gestured over to the lockers that held the suits. Both of their parents' lockers tended to be quite empty since they practically lived in them, to the point where they had several copies of the same suits that they’d wash and reuse. Danny and Jazz only had the ones, Jazz had a nice dark violet color with black gloves and boots. Danny had black gloves and boots too but his was white to make it look like he was an astronaut, something that he had mixed feelings on. Both of these used to have a giant picture of Jack’s head on it but it was quickly removed by both siblings. 

They quickly put the suits on over their uniforms and joined their parents behind some glass near the portal. It wasn’t closed off or anything and Danny didn’t think it would be able to prevent something like an explosion from charing all of them but it’s hard to have faith in parents who've missed so much because of the stupid portal, or at least that’s how Danny felt. 

Jazz and Danny huddled together behind their parents as their mom did some final checks on a clipboard, “alrighty we should be all good, Hun you ready to throw the switch?” their mom asked their dad. “As ready as I’ll ever be!” Jack yelled as he threw down the switch.

…

A few sparks erupted from the portal but other than that nothing happened. 

Their dad, frustrated at this angrily tried turning it off and on again but nothing but another smaller spark and then truly nothing. 

Another low frustrated growl left their dad as he and mom walked back up the steps, “alright I’m taking a break.” Jack said, almost defeated, sounding, “I’m sorry but I really thought we had it this time.”

“Oh come on, Jack, let’s go out, I’m sure the kids were probably going over to the Wayne’s again anyways. Let’s go out and have a fun night then sleep on it.” their mom said, patting dad on the shoulder. They shared a fond look and then went upstairs probably to get ready. 

Danny and Jazz stood at the bottom of the stairs and shared a look.

“They gave up too fast again…” Jazz noted.

“I guess, what do we do now?” Danny asked.

“I’m still a little curious about the portal but I don’t want to keep Damian, Tim or Alfred waiting,” Jazz said with a hand on her cheek.

“We could invite them in, I know we haven’t before but maybe Tim would know how to get it working, he is pretty good with technology.” Danny reasoned. Neither of them really wanted to involve the Wayne’s in their family’s shenanigans but at this point they were all friends and Damian and Tim were bound to find out how weird their family was at some point anyways.

Jazz stood there seeming to think things over before she nodded, “alright I trust your judgment but we’ll have to be careful okay?” 

Danny smiled at her, “of course, what’s the worst that could happen?” 

This is what led to the four of them standing at the bottom of the stairs. Their parents had left about an hour ago. Danny and Jazz were still in their suits with Tim without one and made to sit with Jazz behind the glass and Damian and Danny planning to explore the actual tube.

“I don’t want to chance you getting hurt,” he said to her as he made her stand next to Tim.

Damian and Danny shared a look and nodded before heading into the tube. 

They looked around for a while but didn’t see much besides the interconnected wires on the floor of the lab. Damian took the right side while Danny took the left. They worked their way up and down the tube. Damian was a little ahead of Danny on their way out. Nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary.

When they were almost out Danny lost his footing, his hand flying out in front of him. A soft click was heard and time seemed to crawl to a stand still.

Danny couldn’t stand the thought of his friend getting hurt because of him and he felt a rush of adrenaline. He ran as he felt a swirl of energy and electricity surround his body. 

“DANNY!! DAMIAN!!” he heard both Tim and Jazz shout as he reached Damian who was at the mouth of the portal.

A quick shove was all it took to get Damian, who had turned towards him at the sound of the shout, out of the portal. 

“DANIEL!!” he heard Damian shout as the portal activated on top of him, surrounding his body with swirling green.

Blinding pain shot through Danny, feeling as if he was being torn apart and put back together again and again.

He figured he was dying but at least he could protect those he cared about. He was able to shove Damian out of the portal in time, and Tim and Jazz were safely behind the blast glass.

He wouldn’t ever be able to fly among the stars as an astronaut but he was able to protect. His family and friends were safe and that’s all that mattered. 

He could allow himself to succumb to the darkness as the electricity and pain consumed him whole.

u kno, I don’t think that people consider enough the possibility (and very high probability) that Snape wasn’t mean to student’s because he wanted to, but more so because he had to. Not saying they he was nice. That man sure as hell wasn’t nice, especially when reading from Harry’s point of view.

But let’s consider for a moment the objective circumstances: Severus Snape was a past Death Eater, who at 21-ish years old changed sides (something only Dumbledore knew to which extent and the reasons), and knew of the possibility of the Dark Lord coming back because Dumbledore told him, and anyone who listened honestly, that he didn’t believe Voldemort to be truly gone.

Now, Severus Snape knows that Harry Potter, this child who is the Dark Lord’s undoing, is alive and is coming to the school, as probably most of his contemporary schoolmate’s kids are also going, have been there a while and will come for various years after. Snape is still bound to Dumbledore by his promise to be a spy, and is bound to Voldemort by brand. And Dumbledore is highly suspicious shit is about to go down (which u kno, he was rights ‘cause even from the first year lil Harry started Going Through It™️).

Having that background: Severus Snape, Head of Slytherin, and presumed Death Eater (‘cause u kno, spy), who was never known to be openly warm nor kind, who was fiercely bullied and he retaliated when felt necessary, is supposed to seem impartial and nice to all of his students?

Morally, should he had been? Heck yeah. Any decent teacher and adult should.

Realistically, should he had been? Well, if he wanted his cover blown, sure. If he wanted all of the Death Eaters who had children in school questioning the hell out of him, yeah. If he wanted Voldemort suspicious of his alliance and current belief system (which would have been at odds with the Death Eater ideals), uh-huh. But that would have made for a lousy spy at best and disastrous war changing consequences at worst.

And let’s be really honest here: Dumbledore gave him the position as teacher, primarily because he wanted to use Snape as a spy. That was Dumbledore’s priority, not the teaching. Which is a little wild to think coming from a school headmaster, truly.

This theory (which personally extends from theory to canon, because that’s how being a spy works) does not excuse him from how his prejudice blinded him from seeing Harry for Harry and not James (but the case could be made that neither did Sirius, but that’s another topic). That was wild. However, at the same time, he looked out for Harry’s life.

Again, I’m not saying Severus was warm and nice and he certainly acted mean and cruel at moments, particularly with kids from the other three houses. I just think that was part of the tragedy. He had a role to play, he played it perfectly, getting himself branded as a coward and a traitor by the people closest to him. And because of him, they won the war.

Despite the many reasons I have for hating that Tara was killed off and thus not in Season 7, I am deeply upset that she never got to see Spike with a soul. She was one of the few characters that consistently had positive interactions with him in Season 6, and I think they would have been really good friends. She would have been proud of him, and still roasted him for being such a lovestruck sap.

NOW Divine twili beast Sky is an LU au that stems from a weird dream I had that also turned into a series as I tried to flesh out what the lore of this world could be like which is why there's a lot of holes in it but like it's my Swiss cheese angel

What's funnier is there is a 3rd au I barely talk about because it was when my Zelda hyper fixation was waning a bit, which links up with Branching Timelines called Fractured Timelines and THAT Sky is the same Sky as Branching Timelines SORT OF

It's complicated but the fracturing aspect does play a part in how that's the case. Idk it FT will ever see the light of day past the designs I made BUT we'll never know

You had escaped four years ago.

They had tried finding you, using a ridiculous amount of resources but every time they found a clue or a sign, you were long gone. It was Kate who knocked some sense into their heads, demanding their attention back in the game or stop working - so they abandoned the dream of you, spending their few vacations to look instead.

Nothing.

You had been perfect for them. A scared little thing, crying and whimpering, so naive and stupid, not understanding how dangerous the world was, how they were helping you. Together they molded you into a perfect being, the many days spent in the dark of their basement making you pliant, the many punishments making your tears dry up and learning to be tougher. They made you a new human being, happily sucking them off, spreading your legs when told, making them food and living up to their fantasy of a perfect little partner at home, doing the dishes and laundry, ready for them when they came home.

Four years had passed faster than they would like, they had even considered finding someone new, to take your place. To fill up that dark, loving hole in their hearts.

That was until they were eating at a small restaurant in France, a pitstop after a long but successful city, before they would return to the UK. Their waiter had taken their order and they sat in a private room, happily using money to pay for privacy to talk about what they wanted and enjoy themselves.

Except, the waiter who entered the room with their food elegantly balanced on their arms, wasn’t the one who had taken their orders —

It was you.

You had a polite smile that you probably used on all customers, greeting them as you entered, but stopping the moment the door closed after you - eyes wide, plates beginning to shake.

“My my,” Price rumbled, as you saw all of their eyes darkening, “what are the odds?”

It was like you were back in the basement, begging for food, for light, for human interaction.

“Serve us our food, pet,” Ghost said, barely blinking, looking like he was ready to pounce, “why don’t ya’ join us, yea?”

As if you had never escaped them, you immediately obeyed, even though you were shaking with fear, which they had trained out of you back then. You sat next to Price, who immediately pulled you closer, hand roaming over your side and hips.

“Fancy coming home soon?” Gaz asked and you knew it wasn’t really an option to say no, not with how Soap also stared at you hungrily, cutting his steak and eating a big bite without even looking away.

“Y-yes,” you whispered, desperately looking around on the table, “don’t uhm, don’t you need more beer?”

The men laughed - Price’s hand tightened on your thigh.

“No, pet,” he replied, “I think we’re gonna take this meal sober. Do you help in the kitchen here?”

You nodded nervously, hand shaking as you pointed to one of the small bowl of sauce that they all had, “I always make the sau-sauce, sir.”

“Remembering your manners, huh?” Price teased, “why don’t me and the boys taste then, see if it’s good?”

Something something I don’t understand poison, but it was shortly after that you stumbled away from Price, who grabbed out after you, falling down over the chair you had just sat on, foam evolving from his moan as he let out a painful sound just like the others.

Ripping your small gun from your boot felt as if it took forever, especially with Ghost charging towards you, a loud monster-like groan escaping him as he almost jumped over the table, only stopping when you delivered 2 bullets into his head. He fell right in front of you, dead - the others weren’t completely dead and you walked to them with shaking breaths, ignoring their looks as you shot them between their eyebrows, one after one. As soon as John Price laid dead together with Kyle Garrick, Johnny MacTavish and Simon Riley, you moved.

Out the window, down the path behind the restaurant, knowing the route you had rehearsed so many times by now.

Disappearing into the night, monsters bleeding out on a cheap carpet in a restaurant that was blown into full panic.
