Litha Wildflower Salad🌼
A wonderful way to celebrate Litha or any day in the summer is to add delicious wild edibles to your meals. Today I went on a plant walk to gather wild flowers for a flower crown and I happened upon these wild pea flowers and red clover flowers. I sprinkled them on top of a green goddess salad. They were so delicate and sweet and summery :)
A note of caution when collecting or eating wild foods: eat a plant only if you have a 100% ID. Plants can have lots of lookalikes and there are many poisonous plants. Additionally, when introducing a new food, it’s best to try a small amount of them first, so you can get a sense of whether you can tolerate them. Basically like a patch test when you use new skincare or makeup.
I love you, happy solstice, or happy whenever you’re reading this!

1d8 Places to Rest in the City
The upstairs of the Coronet, a seedy and rundown public house in the industrial district. The pub is under new management, and has been undergoing extensive renovations in the hope of cleaning up its image. Despite the owner’s best efforts, pickpockets and thugs loiter outside. And most nights, a smuggler by the name of Smiley Sam can be found in the barroom, ready to trade in secrets, coin, or illicit goods.
The roof of the Third Regional Bank, an imposing edifice with an atrial dome and a cluster of gold statues above its grand doors. From this height, you can see the sprawl of the whole city, its flickering lights and flares of magic. The night watchman might need paying off, and it’s none too comfortable in rain or snow. But the gargoyles have formed a sketch comedy group, so there’s built-in entertainment.
The Magnolia Pink, a fabulous hotel with genuine silver floors. The suites are worth the expense, from the liveried servants who attend the guests’ every need to the plush, indulgent beds and decadent room service options. But rumor has it that for every night you pass in the Magnolia Pink’s embrace, the less likely you are to come out again — at least until you can no longer scrounge up the cash to afford just one more night.
Under the Bodhi Bridge. This brickwork overpass provides excellent shelter from the elements, particularly because some enterprising vagabond has knocked in part of the supporting wall and created an accessible niche roughly 15x15 ft. in size. In time, other vagrants have left their marks: symbols in thieves’ cant, broken bottles, worn-out boots, and a pile of logs inoculated with a variety of mushrooms.
Inchibald Quingle’s Lodging House, a crooked three-story structure with drafty rooms, narrow hallways, and two hearty meals a day. The elderly Mr. Quingle has handed the reins to his son, Inchie Jr., whose passion for cookery has earned the Quingle Lodging House its place on the map. Inchie’s other passion—taxidermy—does put some guests off their supper, however.
The Asylum of the Ragged Saints, a humble almshouse dedicated to housing the poor, the pensioners, and the downtrodden. Available only to those in need, the Asylum’s rooms are clean and orderly, but offer little privacy and even less comfort. Its patron, Lady Parsimony Cross, is a crotchety and bookish young woman who inherited responsibility for the Asylum from a more kindly and warm relative. She is greatly concerned with the idea that the Asylum is being used by those who do not truly need its services, and has begun imposing increasingly high standards of poverty and desperation to its residents.
An abandoned underground transport station, dating from a time immemorial. A rusting metal wagon rests on a sunken track, its doors jammed into the open position. Moth-eaten seats line an aisle within. The track extends into the darkness of an enclosed tunnel, which emits an eerie buzzing noise. If the wagon doesn’t hold any appeal, you can always remain on the buckling stone platform and examine its illegible signage and explore the chambers lined in cracked, mossy tile which branch from the main cavernous space.
The basement of the Ershae family home. The Ershaes are friendly people, part of a social network which offers safe housing to travelers. As members of this group, they host strangers willingly and are welcomed by other strangers in the network when they travel themselves. The sole condition of your stay is this: you must join the network and list your address among the available places to stay. If you agree, you may sleep in this place as long as you need without charge, though you are responsible for your own meals. The Ershaes’ basement is wood-paneled, with a shaggy orange carpet and a vividly green sofa bed.

Thinking on the first shower Noctis took, post-crystal.
He wakes up, and he has to know on some level that quite some time has passed, even before he reaches Galdin Quay. The scratch of facial hair on his chin, the way his hair is longer and tickles his chin now when it shouldn't have, the accumulated grime - dust and dirt and traces of black soot and gray ash on his fatigues - on his skin and clothes from the struggle in Zegnatus Keep and then a decade in stasis.
I'm not sure if the crystal just up and deposited him on Angelgard, because while Noctis was sucked into it in his entirety - we don't know of the divide between his soul/mind, and his actual body, and there's something so grim in thinking about Noctis himself was in the crystal, absorbing centuries of power, while his body is left in Angelgard.
That also, to me, makes more sense as to why Gentiana and Umbra would be there, guarding him, and later - a la Comrades expansion - the surviving Glaives.
Noctis himself wasn't there, but his body was.
Imagine the feel of that. Ten years worth of grime, or nearly.
I say nearly, and maybe it's just my bleeding heart for how Gentiana does care about Luna, and in turn how Luna cares for Noctis, but there's something very tender and bittersweet in the thought of Gentiana - the messenger and Astral in one - trying her best to keep Noctis healthy during that long decade, like sponge bathing to keep the worst off him.
If anyone had direct access to Noct, it would be her.
It wouldn't be the same as a proper bath, or real exercise, but it would be something - keeping of muscular atrophy and maintaining his hygiene as much as possible (as well as whatever crystal fuckery is going on besides Bahamut's revelation, because the amount of issues Noct should have woken up with makes no small list).
Noctis wakes up, and he walks the trail Umbra paves for him, to the shores of Angelgard - and the royal vessel is waiting there for him. Aged, probably worn, but there to bring him back to the mainland. Back to Lucis.
We never see the interior of the Royal Vessel, but there's probably bedrooms - and probably a bathroom. Considering Noctis would probably be more focused on driving the yacht itself, rather than stopping, it'd be unlikely for him to enter the bathroom - but the thought of him looking into a mirror, and looking at himself, so changed from what he remembers being...
It carves the strongest feeling of loss, down to the roots of my heart in my chest because - Noctis is grown. He's fully grown, a man, and yet - not. Ten years were stolen from him, and he wouldn't even know yet. Not until running into Talcott.
There's so much of his father in his face, but his father is dead. His father never got the chance to see Noctis grown up in life, never would have gotten the chance with the strain of the wall and the magic of their bloodline sucking his life away.
His father, who at the end of it all, would be forced to deliver the final blow which severed Noctis from his body once more.
Permanently.
I think it might be even worse, though. For Noctis to first see himself in the mirrors of Talcott's van. In glimpses, but never as a whole, because it's so damn dark and the sun hasn't risen - hasn't pierced the clouds of miasma - for near ten years.
If there was anywhere he'd be able to see his face, it would be at Hammerhead. Hammerhead, where his retinue was waiting - Prompto, and Gladio, and Ignis (who would, just like Regis, be unable to bear witness to Noctis growth).
They're all different, too. Gladio, with longer hair and more scars to count. Prompto, with a goatee a tad longer than Noct's stubble and facing down Daemons with more practice and experience. Iggy, who can't see, but learned to cook and fight again, with more lines on his face and scars on his hands from where others had helped guide weaponry or cookery away from himself before he had adjusted -
Then, Iggy being the exception (except for the visions in Altissia), they are the first people to see his face, besides Umbra, besides Gentiana, Talcott, the Glaives...
There's the feel of water dousing his hair, rolling down his spine and over his body, and it's not hot or cold - but lukewarm. People in and out of Hammerhead now, the power that goes into heating water needed elsewhere. The scent of bland soap, without any real fragrance. Clear water running dark down a drain as he scrubs and scrubs and scrubs - and he gets out, and he gets dressed in attire fit of a king.
A warrior, heading to war. A man, mortal and yet to become not, preparing to make a declaration to the heavens themselves not in words, but his own spilled blood staining the throne once built off of it.
Just. Noctis waking up after the crystal.
Feelings.

Gourmet Street: Dungeon Meshi meets God of Cookery
With Dungeon Meshi being in public eye again with the Netflix series, I thought it would be a good time to shoutout again about Gourmet Street, my free (tips appreciated) Street Food Fantasy zine! Big thanks to our wonderful artist and layout man @feralindiecharlie
A New Setting! - Gourmet Street, a collection of scattered and bizarrely connected alleyways, it seems to pop up in any settlement large enough to begin thinking of itself as a city. Stacked high in wood carts, laid out on intricate rugs, swimming in a myriad of sauces, food is the name of the game on Gourmet Street.
ONE MILLION Food Vendors and Menus! - Never eat the same thing twice! Generate from 8,000 possible unique food vendors and LITERALLY ONE MILLION possible dishes; ranging from Soft-shelled Crabman Sandwiches with Tzatziki sauce and Egg Coffee, to Myconid Zapiekanka in Pesto with a shot of Absinthe!
Food Factions! - From the hyper-radical (and slightly deranged) Neuvo Gastro-Alchemists, to the fanatical and militant Vinegar Knights, the food factions each come with their own wants, goals, and boons, IF you choose to serve them...
A One-Page Adventure: ESCAPE FROM GOURMET STREET! Help a pair (or trio) of star-crossed lovers escape from Gourmet Street in a Snake-and-Ladders inspired chase! Fend off rival lovers, food cart brawls and escaped dishes as you dash through the alleys of Gourmet Street!
And More! Monsters, magic items, and cookbooks for both Players and GMs to use and abuse!

My Personal Guide to Works pertaining to German, Bavarian, and Alpine Folk Magick
This is not an exhaustive list, just a list of sources that inform my practice. Readers will benefit from being able to read German (and sometimes Bavarian/Boarisch German).
Not all works are specific/exclusive to these folk practices and may include other traditions in addition.
I will be updating this list as I recall or find works to add to it. It is not alphabetized or organized in any specific way. If you’d like to recommend a title for this list, let me know!
Additionally, I cannot speak or vouch for any of the views or opinions of the authors. Some of these sources are certainly outdated and could potentially contain content that is offensive or bigoted, which is not something I endorse. Finally, there are some sources that are of debatable historical accuracy, so take them with a grain of salt.
Books
Pow-Wows or Long Lost Friend, John George Hohman
The Secret History of Christmas Baking by Linda Raedisch
The Old Magic of Christmas by Linda Raedisch
Night of the Witches by Linda Raedisch (a great resource for Walpurgisnacht)
Mountain Magic: Celtic Shamanism in the Austrian Alps by Christian Brunner
Alpine Magic by Christian Brunner
Pagan Christmas by Christian Rätsch and Claudia Müller-Ebeling
Göttin Holle by Gunivortus Goos (also available in English)
Hausgeister! by Janin Pisarek, Florian Schäfer, and Hannah Gritsch
Queens of the Wild by Ronald Hutton
Witchcraft and the Shamanic Journey Kenneth Johnson
Niederbayerische Sagen by Michael Waltinger
Witchcraft Medicine by Wolf-Dieter Storl, Christian Rätsch, Claudia Müller-Ebeling (available in both English and German)
Der Heilige Hain by Christian Rätsch
Von Sonnwend bis Rauhnacht by Valentin Kirschgruber
Witches and Pagans: Women in European Folk Religion, 700-1100 by Max Dashu
Spirit Beings in European Folklore 2 by Benjamin Adamah (I encourage you to read their sources as well, it’s important to find primary sources)
Deutsche Mythologie by Jacob Grimm (English as “Teutonic Mythology”) Please take Jacob Grimm with a grain of salt.
Handwörterbuch des deutschen Aberglaubens (There’s a lot of caveats to this, as it is highly outdated, but it is still a handy resource for reference. HOWEVER, good luck finding it. You might find some volumes available online but there are very few complete reprints of this encyclopedia, at least that are affordable.)
Tiefe Wälder, dunkle Legenden by Josef Probst
Malleus Maleficarum by Heinrich Kramer (This is basically a 15th century manual to “witch hunting” and contains bigotry and and a lot of factual inaccuracies. However, it has some content that can provide some insight into folk magic and superstition of the time. It is very violent and explains the torture process of those accused of witchcraft, so be warned)
Volksmedizinische Botanik der Germanen by Max Höfler
Journals and Scholarly Articles
Holda: Between Folklore and Linguistics by Thomas Leek
Perchten and Krampusse: Living Mask Traditions in Austria and Bavaria by Molly Carter
Divination: Mother Holle as Goddess of Seerdom by Ullrich R. Kleinhempel
Percht und Krampus Felix and Ulrich Müller
The Distribution of The Legends of Frau Holle, Frau Percht, and Related Figures by Erika Timm
Perchta the Belly-Slitter and Her Kin: A View of Some Traditional Threatening Figures, Threats and Punishments by John B. Smith
Holle's Cry: Unearthing a Birth Goddess in a German Jewish Naming Ceremony by Jill Hammer

Part 2 of my sfth improvised play reviews, which is back by popular demand (only one person asked for a part 2)
The Dark Moons of Slough 10/10
As a person who grew up watching British cookery shows I really enjoyed this one. I love wizard Ascaroth's ringtone and the fact that Jamie Oliver sounds incredibly sinister. The soups causing flashbacks was a stroke of genius and also the idea that Mary Berry is the most powerful witch in the uk is amazing (I think she'd beat Jamie Oliver in a fight without magic powers anyways)
Too Big To Be A Jockey 7/10
Don't get me wrong, it's a really good play but I'm just not enamoured with it. There are some bits I really love like Tom going "ah so that's the kind of character I am" and the reuniting of the brothers at the end but it's just not my favourite of their plays. Also Sam's Irish accent is atrocious.
The Lighthouse 9/10
I laughed so much whilst watching this one. The plot is so abstract and I love it. The idea that the sheep get distressed by having the curtains drawn on the lighthouse is hilarious and I love Sam's character of the inbred sheep that's vaguely human and also does drugs. I also cannot stop hearing Sam just bleating "sex" in answer to luke's question. The ending is chaos, which I enjoy, and the whole play is great.
So that's 3 more reviews. Again lmk what you think but I'm enjoying writing these.
Part 1

There's now a one-shot sequel to Write A Way called Letting Go, where Azira and Crowley start to explore some kinkier aspects to their relationship...
Perhaps you'd like to read some emotional make-up sex while Crowley wears the most ridiculous outfit possible? Talking is for Tomorrow
Or maybe you'd enjoy Femme Aziraphale trying to very obviously seduce a very oblivious Crowley via cream cakes and innuendo? Finding A Rhythm
You might be more in the mood for university lecturers Anthony and Ezra finally working things out together thanks to an academic conference, some criminally-thin walls, and a rather magic wand in I've Got a Wand and (maybe) a Rabbit (edit: there's now a 4 chapter sequel to this called Is It Casual Now?, where Ezra and Anthony are trying to work out who they are together, with a healthy dollop of miscommunication 😅)
I hope you find something you enjoy - let me know here or in the comments on AO3 💜

Reading The Fort George Bill of Fare, and near the recipe for roast beef is a quote from American officer Captain Worth, dated Fort George, May 27, 1813:
Being provided with a slender stick terminating in a prong, we at once had a small steak, unceremoniously sliced out of the rump or brisket, extended over the embers, sputtering out its fat, and curling up into the form of a scroll, in the token that it was under the full process of cookery. A conical, or pine-apple shaped basket of fine salt had been conjured to the same spot, by a magic which was not anxiously enquired into.
This is a very funny way of hinting at the looted origin of the salt: absolutely No One is going to say anything, at the long end of a terrible War of 1812 supply chain, if some salt mysteriously appears to improve their tough, unseasoned beef cooked over an open flame.
Looting was forbidden by the British and American forces—not that anyone could really prevent a large group of hungry soldiers from pillaging farm houses and even trying to eat dried corn standing in fields (the Petersburg Volunteers were this desperate on their way to Fort Meigs).

”are you cold?” inquired out of true concern. to her, the ever changing whims of the weather are no matter of trouble. for, due to her current nature, she cannot feel them as acutely, neither can she feel a need to sleep. at times, the redhead forgets others do still face all this: the harshness of a colder morning or evening, the overwhelming calling of slumber.
in a delicate, careful gesture, the she-demon unfolds her wings, wrapping one around Daisuke so as to shield him from the chilly evening air. “I recall that light you have gifted me still. I pray you, too, stay safe.” ( okay but consider Fractsidus gang and whatnot, and she’s like oh here let me keep you safe from the cold )
@furiaei
as if trying to answer before him , a firm gust blows across the stony fields of hongzhen . snow pelts against the pitch black of his coat , crystalline flakes creeping their way upwards like the start of a pupa's shell or glacial burial ; the very same flash freeze that sometimes encased and entrapped anything from careless rabbits to human beings .
if daisuke's been shivering , standing at the precarious edge of red stone overlooking the mount firmament settlement and its steaming hot springs , then he hasn't even realized it . despite his impressions , be they fragile or worryingly young , he's been trained to endure even worse , save for the longing .
all this time , he's been watching with no small amount of intensity the daily lives of the settlement's various inhabitants . within the city , friends and family warmed themselves by hot teas , river fish , and warm fires . mothers dressed their children in thick furs that made them resemble little bears ; their grown fathers and brothers and sisters hovering about their toddling , innocent figures like truer , viciously protective ones .
it's only felt like yesterday that the fractsidus had targeted this place . another necessity , the others had either reassured or insisted upon him , but it wasn't something like necessity that could soothe a child's acute sense of isolation or disturbed guilt .
Tumblr media
( was there truly ever any safety in a thing like waging war --- ? )
phrolova sang him lullabies and combed through his hair ; scar lifted his spirits with all sorts of tall tales and magic card tricks . even here and now , when mya's wings unfold , he finds himself pressing beyond any initial surprise and leaning naturally inwards , seeking shelter and roost despite the shape of a monster --- the very same that the world would accuse of him and his second , dissonant frequencies , his violent and loveless black wings .
the frigid bite nevertheless starts to fade . daisuke's cheeks redden , and he anxiously clutches at his wrist before risking a timid touch at his company's fingers . his small hands seek to wrap around her skin . her claws . ' just ... a little . ' the subtle puff and reluctant pout in his voice belongs to a child stubbornly trying to sound brave . ' it's only a little cold . '
as for the rest , if there was anything to worship , any prayer to be had --- he thinks he would find it at their shared touch . to the rest , they very well may have been two demons in hiding , but if only to each other --- daisuke quietly smiles , the faint , troubled wrench in his brows turning his expression bittersweet . ' ... i'll be okay . '
even if he's given her light , she's given him warmth . wasn't there even more that they could share together ? ' mya-san , hongzhen's restaurant , have you ever tried anything from there ? ' the round of his eyes casts out towards the cookery . its chef was hard at work , fussing expertly over pots and ovens and dishes while customers mulled back and forth .
' i was thinking if i went really quickly , i could get some food , like tofu or the special pastry i've heard about . it's not exactly a souvenir ... and it's a little awkward to try something new all by myself . ' a pause ; his breath comes out in a visible cloud . ' do you think ... w-would it be okay --- would you like something like that ? '
much of him was still human . a natural eye for beauty and luxury , a taste for good foods ; a belly full and he'd no doubt feel his lids heavy . yet even if mya declined a meal , he'd still find reassurance in her company . she was capable of much more than just prayer , he understood , and the various wolves and wildcats that sometimes harassed him , at least in her presence , wouldn't dare .
' i'm sorry to rely on you . but if i could , somehow --- i'd like to make it up to you , too . '

White Chocolate Pistachio Brownies with Rose and Cardamom
A prayer for Free Palestine
INGREDIENTS
8 oz (226 g) high quality white chocolate bars, chopped, or chips
3⁄4 cup (168 g) unsalted butter, chopped into small cubes
2 eggs
2 egg yolks
1 1⁄4 cups (250 g) granulated white sugar
1 tablespoon (15 ml) vanilla extract
1 3⁄4 cups (219 g) all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled, or weighed
3⁄4 teaspoon salt
1/2-1 cup of roughly chopped unsalted pistachios
A lot of powdered sugar
Rose Water
3-4 cardamom pods
3 Tbs of whole milk
NOTES:
I scaled the recipe up by about a third to bake them in a 9” round. I found out that they come out better if you make them square according to the recipe as is.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Lightly grease a 9x9 pan and set aside. (You can also line the pan with parchment paper for easier removal.)
2. Melt the butter and the white chocolate together in a double boiler over medium-low heat. Stir continuously to ensure the white chocolate gets heated evenly. Then remove from the heat.
3. Add the eggs, egg yolks, sugar and vanilla to a large bowl and whisk together until pale and smooth. (You can also use an electric hand mixer on high speed to make it easier.)
4. Pour in the white chocolate mixture and whisk until combined and smooth.
5. Fold the flour and salt into the wet ingredients with a rubber spatula just until combined. Then fold in the pistachios.
6. Pour the white chocolate brownie batter into the prepared pan. Use a mini offset spatula to smooth the batter out.
7. Bake the brownies for 30-35 minutes. Then let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
8. Once cool, use a butter knife to loosen the edges of the brownies from the pan, and turn over to gently release. Cut into 16 squares.
9. Make the rose and cardamom drizzle. Warm the milk in a saucepan and break open the cardamom pods. Simmer them in the milk on very low heat until the flavor has infused. Usually 15 minutes to a half hour. Taste the milk to confirm.
10. Strain out the cardamom pods and let the milk cool to room temperature. Add 1/4 tsp rosewater to the milk (you can add more later if you want a rosier flavor) and begin adding powdered sugar. Add a quarter cup to start and stir until no lumps remain. Continue adding powdered sugar until you get a nice thick drizzle-able consistency. Taste and adjust the rosewater content if necessary.
11. Split the icing into two batches. Add pink food coloring to one and green food coloring to the other.
12. Put each icing into separate sandwich bags/piping bags. Cut a very small hole in the corner and use the bag to pipe the icing. Alternatively, you can just use a fork to do the drizzle. Allow to set.
13. Call your reps and demand a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Go to protests. Boycott Starbucks, HP, Puma, Sodastream and the other companies that support the violence against Palestinians, found at this link. Do everything you can. Don’t look away.
“When Prophet Ibrahim was thrown into fire by the oppressor of the time, Numrud, a bird took drops of water in her beak and dropped it over the fire.
The other animals laughed: ‘what will your drops of water do for the largest of fires?’
The bird replied: ‘it may make no difference to the flames but when God asks me, ‘my Friend was burning, what did you do’ at least I won’t be ashamed.’
When you speak, when you protest, when you write, remember that.
God’s friends are burning. Let us not be ashamed 🇵🇸”
Taken from @zainab_alavi1 on instagram.
When this is over will you be able to face yourself?

Underwater Cookin
How do they cook underwater ??? Like?? I know they have magic and yadda yadda, but did they really just light fire underwater.
I kinda like to think that they don't normally. Like for the most part mer eat things like raw prepared. Think sashimi ya know. But some places like cookeries have heat geysers that they use to like boil stuff and also pre-prepare things for folk who don't want to on their own I guess. Imma be back with HCs on how the octatrio learned how to cook on land cuase I think it'd be both interesting and funny that they learned like fire cooking when at the school and stuff. Learning what fry oil is the works lol.

(Inter)National Cake Day
(Inter)National Cake Day takes place on November 26 each year. Cake is a baked food usually made out of flour, sugar, and other ingredients. In their oldest forms, cakes were modifications of bread, a more sophisticated type, but these days, cakes cover a wide range of baked sweets such as pastries, pies, et cetera. Cake is often served on ceremonial occasions, such as weddings, anniversaries, and birthdays. There are numerous cake recipes, many of which are centuries old.
History of (Inter)National Cake Day
Our favorite confection, cake, has a pretty long history. The word ‘cake’ itself is of Viking origin, and is derived from the Old Norse word ‘kaka.’ The Greeks also had their own cake which was baked using flour mixed with other ingredients such as eggs, milk, nuts, and honey. They also had a cake called ‘satura,’ which was flat and had a heavy consistency.
The word “cake’ took on a different name during the period of Roman rule, and that was ‘placenta,’ a Greek dish derived from their term for cake. A placenta was made from many layers of dough and was typically baked on a pastry base or inside a pastry case. The Greeks used beer to leaven it and included in the mixture was cheese made using goat’s milk. The basic bread dough was sometimes enriched with butter, eggs, and honey, as a sophisticated kind of bread that produced a sweet and cake-like baked good. This way of cooking was a common ancient Roman practice.
Early cakes in England also started off as regular bread, with the most obvious difference between them being their shape, that is, the more rounded, flat shape of cakes. Another difference is the method of production, where cakes are turned over while baking, as opposed to bread which was left upright throughout the baking process.

I'm the WolxThancredxEmet anon and I just LOVED your hcs. I wanted to ask for more of the same trio, maybe more fluffy hcs? Tysm
ask and ye shall receive, dear anon! these guys are always fun to write for <3
pairing: Thancred Waters x gn!WoL x Emet-Selch tags: fluff, polyamory, established relationship
Tumblr media
When it comes to household chores, things are split pretty equally between the trio. Everyone takes turns with the dishes, the laundry, the shopping, etc. In fact, the only task to be “strictly” enforced is cooking.
And by that, I mean… unless the WoL insists on doing it themselves, Thancred and Emet do all the meal preparation. They’ve even worked out a little system between them to keep things balanced.
Thancred makes breakfast, and honestly, he’s pretty good at it. He has all but perfected the art of egg cookery, in particular. (He first started honing this skill in the wilds of Dravania, when chocobo eggs were his main source of non-meat protein.) He’s also been working on a pancake recipe, so the WoL and Emet have been eating a lot of them recently.
Meanwhile, Emet has firmly established himself as the true King of Dinner. Using a combination of acquired technique and magical augmentation, he can churn out three-course meals in less than an hour.
Emet is also single-handedly responsible for refining and expanding his partners’ palates to include more “exotic” delicacies. He loves to serve them expensive bottles of wine and rare fruits, if only to see the looks on their faces when they take the first taste.
Emet is a music buff, too, so their home is often full of it. He cycles through genres like no one’s business, playing everything from Doman opera to Meracydian ballads. Thancred has been known to make fun of Emet for some of his stranger tastes, but he’s also been known to dance with him to make the WoL laugh.
In fact, both Thancred and Emet will do just about anything if it means making their lover happy. They’re both very sensitive to the WoL’s moods, and they both know how hard it is to be so in-demand. All three of them cherish their time together and enjoy coming up with new ways to spend it.
They’ve played all sorts of board games, read dozens of books and poems to each other, visited museums and galleries across the continents, and even taken a few art classes together (albeit with… mixed results).
But most of the time, you can find the trio curled up on their sofa, listening to the fire crackle in the hearth as they talk about their days. Usually, the WoL unloads the latest gossip from Tataru or Krile or G’raha. Thancred always listens and nods, entirely devoted to stroking the Warrior’s hair, while Emet laughs or gasps or clutches his pearls along to the story.
At the end of the night, Thancred is first to retire. “I’m getting old,” he claims, rubbing his back for added effect as he heads to their bedroom. “Ha!” Emet quips back. “You wouldn’t know ‘old’ if it bit you on the arse!”
The Ascian will be up for several hours more. It’s true that Emet is prone to sleeplessness — he always has been — but he also does his best thinking at night. When he does come to bed, Emet finds his partners snuggled up and snoring, and he can’t help but watch for a while as their chests rise and fall. Slow and steady and constant, like the tides of a boundless ocean.
