For the au ask game!

OKAY I wanted specifically to get to the pokemon au from the ask you sent, it's been cooking a bit so it's time to see what comes out of the oven, so... @azol-otl ty for the ask!

Crossover au's are all about the fused worldbuilding for me and speculating on how characters from universe A would fit into universe B heehee hoohoo - and for Batfam especially it's fun to think about the equivalent of their roles as vigilantes! What kind of people have the same level of celebrity, the same sideways seeking of justice?

Naturally this leads you to the gym leaders because a) it's the most fun and b) they are like. Quasi-law enforcement/educators/professional athletes depending on how you try to translate the innate child's perspective on the pokemon universe into something that makes sense as an adult lol ilu pokemon. [insert 'compels me though' gif here]

SO with this in mind, here's 5 fun facts (that are mostly backstory lmao) from a jaytim pokemon au I would write

I'm deeply ill about pokemon so this one goes under the cut lol:

Jason Todd used to be the Champion. He won the role after Dick Grayson quit a year or two before (Dick had been getting older and chafing under the League rules - meaning he'd been chafing under how Bruce ran the League) and was a fierce competitor who didn't believe in going easy on anyone. His Houndoom was a force to be reckoned with, and despite running a mostly Dark-type team, his Honchkrow cleaned up anyone thinking their Fighting-types could sweep. He looked after the League and Gotham with a cocky, self-assured attitude and the win record to back it up. .

Jason disappeared suddenly at the age of 15. Many assumed him dead, after a Rocket (Or whatever Gotham themed gang name we want to go with lol could be Team Joker) bombing in the area he'd last been seen, but he's officially declared missing. Bruce Wayne took back the duties of interim Champion as he once did for Dick Grayson, but he's not quite the mentor he once was. It's obvious he's grieving, and that he doesn't want to mentor any more twelve year olds. Dick signed up to be a Gym Leader shortly after this, returning from his trip about a year early to help out in the chaos following Jason's disappearance. .

Enter Tim Drake. Tim's gym challenge wasn't all that interesting in the circuit at first; he had a rocky start and had to retake a few gym challenges. He wasn't exactly sweeping on his first try every time like Jason had done. He didn't have the meteoric rise that caught the Champion's attention early, didn't get one-on-one mentorship or face-to-face meetings, cautionary advice and congratulations all rolled into one from Bruce Wayne himself - but Tim had patience and grit, and he paid attention. He was gunning for the Championship, and it wasn't just so he could prove himself. Team Rocket/Joker was still out there, and Bruce needed all the help he could get. He was always better for Gotham when he had a Robin. .

Dick had been nicknamed Robin for his all-Flying-type team and especially his Natu-then-Xatu; Jason followed up with his Murkrow-then-Honchkrow; Tim's Rookidee was one among many (Robin-esque pokemon were popularized by Dick and the trend remains through Tim's day) so he wasn't considered a possible Robin successor until it was a Corvisquire and he was about to face Dick Grayson himself, a badge away from Victory Road. By then, Tim and his team were a well-oiled machine (he runs mostly Steel-types lol but also Normal-types for the unexpected adaptability and the 'underestimate my rattata i dare you it's in the top peRCENTAGE--' of it all. FEAR.), and his loss-record had all but frozen while his win-record ticked higher and higher. .

Shit finally goes down about three years after Tim has become Champion and all but bullied Bruce into mentoring him (he basically said 'if you don't watch me, i'll go find Team Rocket/Joker on my own' and triggers all of Bruce's child endangerment traumas simultaneously) and the mysterious Rocket/Joker leader Red Hood shows up, bringing the gang out of the shadows in pursuit of a hidden agenda. Identity shenanigans and "wait is that a Houndoom? But he's only been using Ghost-types, it CAN'T be..." and heel-face turns abound. .

(BONUS FACT: Something something, Jason went into deep cover with Looker or whoever he is, that Interpol guy from X & Y (WAIT. LOOKER MIGHT ACTUALLY BE TALIA AL GHUL IN THIS AU HOHOHO), infiltrating the Rocket/Joker gang and going public as Red Hood is the first step in the last phase of the sting. Cue a million tense Jaytim interactions in which Tim is legitimately trying to take Red Hood down and Jason desperately tries to shake him so that he doesn't do anything that forces Jason to blow his cover. There is at least one 'tugged into a tight space to hide them both from the actual bad guys, "wait, did you just HELP me...?" "Think whatever you want, babybird"' interaction because I am a slut for the first sprinkles of a redemption arc that is rife with UST fufufu)

omg i'm obsessed with this au and I love your writing style! It's so emphasizing and really makes me feel the pain, the fleeting happiness, the crushing loneliness, that Heatwave or whatever character is experiencing.

The more Blades thinks about it, the more Chase's finials look like Streetwise's.

They're a little thinner, and definitely don't move as much, but the way they flatten to his helm when he's uncomfortable or splay out horizontally when he's mad or flap and wiggle when he's happy- they're his own little quirks, and they're not quite the same, but they're just similar enough that it makes his spark ache.

They're playing Jenga, with Cybertronian-sized pieces the Chief somehow managed to get his hands on. Chase's finials are pinned flat against his helm in concentration.

He pulls a piece from the side about the middle of the tower, his glossa poking out next to a fang, concentration so palpable his field has seemingly frozen still.

Chase pulls the piece from the tower with nary a sound or a wobble, then places it atop. His faceplate is set in stone-cold satisfaction, but his finials are wagging uncontrollably.

Without even thinking about it, Blades sends a little package of warmth and fondness tied up with a teasing bow through the bond.

Chase doesn't even react, already scanning the tower and plotting his next move. His finials are stock still and his optics don't even flick to Blades and his field doesn't change a bit. Blades is about to say something, whine about being ignored, when it suddenly occurs to him that he and Chase aren't bonded.

As much as he calls the other rescue bots his brothers... they're not his gestalt.

They're not in his head. They don't feel him. His thoughts don't drift through their processors from time to the time, the same way his don't float through theirs.

He just sent love into a bond that's been dead for...

Primus, how long has it actually been?

"It is your turn," Chase says, snapping Blades out of his thoughts.

"Yeah, yeah," Blades mutters, taking a low risk move that wobbles the tower a little, but doesn't send it over the edge. Chase scrutinizes him with narrowed optics.

"Are you alright?" he asks, optics tracking the way Blades' rotors have drooped.

He quickly pulls them flush to his frame. "Fine," he insists, and Chase drops it, going on to pull another risky move.

Blades leans back on his heels, regarding Chase. He's thought about bonding with the other rescue bots before. Three, four, five, even eight-way amica bonds might've not been common place but were never truly out of the ordinary. And an amica bond, even like that, has nothing on what a gestalt bond is. They'd feel strong emotions, and be able to send messages once strong enough, but they wouldn't know everything about each other. They wouldn't have to train for years to keep from waking each other up with their nightmares. They wouldn't have to shut each other out every time one of them even thought about taking on a partner. And Primus forbid something happens...

Well. It'll hurt. But it won't hurt as much as that.

"What are you thinking about?" Chase asks.

Blades blinks, studying the mech. He's watching him curiously with a very Streetwise expression, open and vulnerable. "Bonding," he admits, then reaches for the tower again.

Chase makes a noncommittal hum. "I still have a datapad with an in depth article on different types of bonds, if you'd like to read it?"

"Thanks, Chase," Blades says softly. "I think I would."

He places the next block on top of the tower, and Chase immediately starts touching it again, picking another piece. "I think Heatwave can read minds," he says suddenly.

Blades laughs abruptly and humorlessly, leaving Chase to stumble and scramble for the tower. "No," he says, shaking his helm. "He can't. I know what it's like to have someone poking around in my head."

The Jenga tower crumbles at their pedes.

Because I had no choice for many years.

Because that choice was taken away from me by a homophobic, transphobic, queerphobic, acephobic society. So all the romances I read had to be heterosexual, all the romances I watched had to be heterosexual, all the romances I heard of had to be heterosexual.

Because I'm not heterosexual.

Because I never saw myself represented in any stories ever, for over about 20 years (queer stuff existed, but where I was situated in Perth, Western Australia, meant that I was not seeing it).

Because I was force-fed allonormative, heteronormative, heterosexual tropes, bullshit, toxicity, misogyny, patriarchal culture, rape culture and more, and because everyone assumed that was normal, which made me feel isolated, marginalised, alone, and bereft, and cut me out of knowing what a life could look like for myself, and made relationships harder, when you don't have the words or stories to latch onto.

People like me couldn't even be erased out of the media, we hardly existed in the media, and if we did, almost never under our real identities, and almost always having to pretend to be something we weren't, for many people who hated us, or wished we were dead, or simply didn't care about us at all.

So, when I finally got a choice, I made a choice.

And I do not want to read heterosexual content anymore, unless it's queer (like T4T). The only place I actually willingly consume heterosexual romantic content these days is like 80s and 90s and early 00s romantic comedies. It's the only thing I allow through my filter, because so many of them have a really strong bent of hurt/comfort in them, and it's rare to find movies that have this in general.

But yeah otherwise het is just not a thing I look for in fiction. Literally a squick. Literally reminds me of 20 years of oppression in the mass media. It's not inherently bad, it just wasn't good for me personally, to never have a choice.

So I made one :D And my life has been so much better for it. I'm never going back.

Also what do you think that made Asian MLM (BL manga/manhwa/manhua/ danmei) romances better than western MLM romances?

It's just better for me, anon! I find a lot of western published m/m (so not like m/m fanfiction which I still read) often feels stifled and too short for me, and the characterisation doesn't get as deep as I want it to get. I often can feel the rigidity of the novel structure on authors who are trying to rapid release, and the depth I'm looking for is rarely there. Sometimes that's what people want! Sometimes they don't know there's other options!

Sometimes that's true of some BL manga/manhua/manhwa etc. as well. Tbh it's probably true of a lot of it! Serial format doesn't always allow for depth either. But I find the visual format easier to read as well. If I reread western m/m it's almost always fanfiction. And tbh, I'm sure some amazing m/m was published last year, I just get tired of having to wade through it all to find something I like. It got to the point where I was reading like 60+ titles just to find one average read, and I gave up.

The recommendation systems for BL tend to be better and more on point for me, I find most people who recommend published m/m to me generally always miss the mark (which isn't their fault - I'm particular, there's a reason I write what I write - because I can't find it to read!!), but close friends like @morbidlizard who recommend BL to me almost always hit the mark!

I don't actually read much danmei, but mostly because I haven't had time to really sink my teeth into it. Aside from MXTX, I haven't explored much further.

And then Kim I think is more blunt. But like, in a good way mostly, you know? The kinda blunt that makes you snap to attention and go "Oh. Yeah that was silly of me." And if Ramona's started some sort of banter? Kim is SO piling on. Maybe sometimes she's a bit TOO blunt with it- but it's only because she's so firm in her support. She wants Scott to Get It Together- and be happier for it. So if some ribbing now and again is in order, then goddamnit she will do so! Anything to crack that shell.

And ohhh can you imagine how they would react to some transphobic bullshit?? Unholy terror would be driven into the offender before they walk off with an absurd amount of coins between them. I can feel it in my bones. Scott doesn't even have to lift a finger (if the transphobe is even noticed/processed at all, bc I honestly can see Scott just. Not realizing someone's being transphobic.) Kim giving someone a lashing with her tongue as distraction and then Ramona coming in with the hammer- BAM! Free Money! Paying literally with your life for your transphobia. A Better And Just World.

And of course (transfem Scott more specifically, here,) the way Scott would start to flourish under their support... cagey and maybe a little (perhaps a lot-) resistant to start- but Kim's blunt affirmations and no nonsense attitude for bullshit (which is what Scott insisting on "being cis" would be, c'mon now,) and Ramona's also low bullshit tolerance but less Stabby (bc I won't lie, that's probably how Kim's comments would feel,) assurances? succession scene of all time honestly if we really wanna get into it. like for one scene to unpack So Much in one go was just absolutely insane.

kendall comes down those stairs and stewy is there and we haven’t seen stewy since he was in kendall’s room in england refusing him cocaine for his own good and you think okay. stewy is mad, he’s gotta be fucking furious. you think okay, stewy’s gonna call him an idiot and a liar and yell at him for fucking with stewy’s money and for the idk, the bad business acumen and unprofessionalism of backing out of deal or something.
