I'm sorry but I have to disagree because within the fiction, lalafell are just as mean, gross and horny as anyone else. Gegeruju is a perv, and the whole Ul'dah Syndicate is full of evil little bastards. On the good side, lala are just as complex and grown up as anyone else - Tataru courts followers and dances in a skimpy outfit in the Forgotten Knight, Giott is a roaring drunk stereotypical fantasy dwarf (not to mention whatever the heck is going on with the Tomra and Komra dwarves in general tbh :P). And Lamitt's story was sweet but it did involve her having adult feelings for Ardbert.

Like, really, I can only think of 4 completely wholesome lala out of a cast of hundreds, and they happen to mostly be the ones we've interacted with a lot (Nanamo; Pipin who is a Heroic Knight archetype; Papalymo, who was a grumpy old scholar man; Krile). But that's more about them being main characters serving roles in the narrative rather than indicative of how lalas behave as a whole. In fact after going through ARR, meeting Pipin and finding One Good Ul'dahn Lala is an enormous relief (since the other one is apparently dead now).

And Krile is a main character now so she's allowed to step out of the shadow of being uwu cat hoodie girl who wasn't written with much depth outside of being serious and earnest and rather spooky; she's actually 22 years old according to the first wiki I found - regardless of if that's totally accurate she's definitely meant to be a peer of the other adult Scions and they all treat her like an adult. Her introduction cutscene has her ribbing Alphy as an older friend laughing at how a much younger one used to behave, so we're supposed to immediately understand on meeting her that she's post-teen since she knew 11 year old Alphy and was of course older than him since he was a freak entry into the Studium at that age. Probably a necessary writing moment because establishing lala's age with hilarious moustaches or deep voices or whatever is a part of how the game has to present them.

Out of the fiction, I know lalas are part of a much wider trope that people do find problematic as a whole (e.g. just because in universe Tataru has babes across the globe and that's normal to everyone involved, who are consenting adults in a world which wholly understands Tataru as a consenting adult, is it actually really creepy that it's happening at all because her body type is toddler-esque? Is it weird in general that lala emotes are SO baby in the same way miqo emotes are SO kitty?

ffxiv definitely goes waaay further into borderline creepy territory than many games with smaller fantasy races in it, when it comes to how lala look, so yeah I know it's a fraught area and can be discomforting to see the game present child-shaped people as having adult desires and a thing some people understandably set aside along with other elements as things they're not happy with co-existing in the game with things they really love.) We can absolutely talk about that on a meta level of how we relate to the game and feel about it, just like things we find racist or uncomfortable in other ways e.g. eng translation Hien's treatment of Yotsuyu being a really problematic point.

But, that's one thing, versus talking about us here in fandom and how we relate to it, and I think your ask is, well, really not very deeply considered on any level, but I think is talking about how we as fandom relate to lalas, based on an inaccurate reading of them in the game, meaning you're really not even analysing a thing about it and therefore your ask comes more in the terms of policing how we should FEEL about Krile's beach outfit, and dictating that we SHOULD find lalas smol and wholesome, and that therefore there's an inherent problem in anyone reacting positively to the outfit, rather than critiquing its place in the game in the first place. Having hit a cognitive dissonance in seeing swimsuit Krile existing you've come to me to complain it's problematic rather than taking any actual meaningful action. Ergo, this is a fandom problem to you, not a game problem. WE should find it problematic and say so, you are implying, shocked that so many people looked at a post about the beach outfits and no one commented as such.

Aside from lalafell being fictional and at no point other than the visuals are they treated as children (and emotes aside, playing through the MSQ as a lala wol you easily fall into seeing them as an adult because of course all the cutscenes share the same level of gravitas no matter what you're playing or what clown costume you have on any player), there ARE actually real humans who are built somewhere closer to lala than not, and would be drawn to playing any of the smaller races in a game (like, gnomes in WoW, halflings in D&D, etc) because that's just their chance at representation. And because FFXIV doesn't have anything other than precious moments doll-shaped people the look might be great in the sense that they have the proportions of a cherub statue and it is a lot harder to meet in the middle than a halfling (notoriously hairy middle aged bastards and much easier to read as adult, though that doesn't exclusively represent people who've had growth developmental differences), that IS still the only representative option some people have in the game and if they want to indulge it rather than play something else with proportions forced on them by many games, then what the hell is wrong with that?

And they WILL go to bat for lalas and get upset when people say that they have to be precious baby characters who act like children. I've seen that on tumblr: there's a whole lala community who keeps kinda low key and away from everyone else by their own admission BECAUSE as soon as they get too much attention they're deluged with hate for playing characters who have adult desires and dress fancy - or, you know, like any other random slutty elf WoL. The fact I wandered onto lala blogs at random and saw that complaint on the first pages should speak to how often they have to deal with it. And, again, within the fiction of the game their characters are completely 100% normal and doing what other lalas who are written by the game do as well. I KNOW those blogs are out there and they'd be scared of getting this exact ask, and it would greatly upset them and ruin their day and put them off having any interaction with the community, which fucking sucks. We're here to have fun!

That said I'm not a weirdo anti all up in others' business, it's also fine to just like lalas and stuff without some huge circumstantial justification like "they look like me" - or - "my IRL wife" or whatever - you can also just play a lala or ship with one and it's like, your business. If that's all you're doing and it's not a hypothetical child molester who also has a whole gallery of lala porn that the cops find when they impound the computer full of REAL CHILDREN stuff as well it's never going to be anyone else's business anyway, ever, and that's like, one hypothetical awful person for a whole fandom of normies who are just surprised by how much idk Pipin's deep voice rocked their world and changed their whole perspective on what a hot character was.

Like, granted, that one HYPOTHETICAL weirdo will make everything rancid because there are people waiting to jump on people who like lalas, but also it still won't actually change what other people are doing into being Evil just because someone who actually hurts children found lalas attractive too. That, again, was the hypothetical awful person's problem and not theirs. And in no way can we just casually imply ALL people who like lalas are just inherently going to be dangerous, like real children, or enacting a private psychodrama teetering on the edge of all that.

They could in fact be completely average and boring psychologically and also have a crush on Tataru. Or, I guess, normal amount of weird for a fandom, but basically average XD In a fictional world where these characters are treated as adults, even normal people will naturally end up drawn to them as adults because, well, that's the story that's we're all engaging in. It's not inherently a thought crime to do so, because, weirdly, thought crimes don't exist.

Also, of course, people will literally discourse that hobbits are child-coded and shouldn't be shipped or seen as sexy, despite the most famous halflings, who made the entire halfling race as a generic brand, all being middle aged, hairy, smoking, drinking, guys with normal adult desires and mindsets. I mean yeah Elijah Wood was 18 when they started filming LotR (over several years so he was Krile's age by the end :P) but also Frodo celebrated his 40th birthday before setting off on the Ring Quest in the book and he was the baby of the group aside from Pippin.

In any case, there's no fucking winning and so I can understand completely that if a fucking Hobbit from Lord of the Rings gets shit for being short, and people are getting called a perv for fancying Sam Gamgee, then why not just embrace it with a Lalafell because you're literally damned no matter what in the eyes of someone who won't meet a LOTR HOBBIT where he stands as an adult man.

There's some DEEP puritanical brainrot going on online and I don't want to be a part of it whatsoever, so it means accepting lala likers for the sake of protecting Merry and Pippin's right to be seen as hot, than like, I know which side of of the line I'm dragging my beach chair. It's not even a question. I'm defending people who think lalas are appealing.

ANYWAY none of this is my business, I don't even find lalas sexy, I just think Krile looks nice in her cute summer top and it's lovely that she's getting fashion advice from her besties, and there's a million reasons to be happy about that and for her as a character, and only miserable bastard reasons to go "aurgh aurgh it's problematic" and condemn the game and everyone who plays it just for enjoying something. Lalas are NOT smol and wholesome, they're short and people, and that's fine.

They're both terrible people but P4 doesn't try to justify Adachi's actions even if you pick the accomplice ending and side with him, meanwhile P5 constantly goes 'but he was sad tho :( his daddy doesn't love him so he's allowed to kill ppl' after the reveal that Akechi's the traitor. Also I did the math and in the cutscene where the train gets derailed alone Akechi killed at least 100x more people than Adachi did in the entire game. There's nothing wrong with liking evil characters (IMO) but acting like they're sweet innocent babies is lame

Adachi and Akechi have similar roles in the story. They’re both the subject of the main mystery of their respective games, the killer and the traitor, and in order to hide their involvement, they have fake detective personas (lowercase p personas not Personas). The issue is that while Adachi’s fake personality is a lovable dork who goofs off work by hanging out in the lobby of a department store, “accidentally” leaks critical information about the case to a bunch of teenagers, and has a weird friendship with an old lady who thinks he’s her son, Akechi's is just generic “crime bad, criminals bad” detective man with zero substance to any of his interactions with the main cast outside of literally all of them fucking hating him (the correct and morally right response to Akechi talking to you). But that’s just their fake personalities, right? It’s totally fine for a completely false, constructed persona to be a little shallow, right? Well Akechi’s real personality is just as bad. I already mentioned how his entire motivation is “Waah my dad doesn’t love me so I’m gonna help him achieve his goals then kill him” which is completely fucking stupid by the way just kill the dude and be done with it if thats what you’re gonna do anyway man, but his personality boils down to ‘generic angsty villain whos gonna get a completely undeserved redemption arc’ (thankfully cognitive Akechi killed him before that could happen, the one good thing he did and it wasn’t even really him). Adachi’s real personality is completely unhinged, his big motivation speech can be summed up as “ACAB!” “But you’re a cop!?” YEAH AND I’M A TOTAL BASTARD WHAT PART OF THAT DON’T YOU GET!?” You love to hate him, and that’s what makes a good antagonist, not feeling sorry for him because his dad doesn’t love him. Guess what Akechi, a lot of people's dads don’t love them and none of them became domestic terrorists to try to regain his love and respect!

And you might think that I’m exaggerating with how the player is supposed to sympathise and eventually forgive Akechi, but after he explains his awful motivation, the first person to extend a hand of sympathy is Haru, the girl who’s father Akechi murdered in front of her like two months prior. The second person is Futaba, who spent her entire adolescence traumatised because she thought she was such a shitty daughter that it drove her mother to suicide BECAUSE AKECHI KILLED HER MOTHER IN FRONT OF HER (the dude’s consistent I’ll give him that.)

Hi! Have you watched Jacob interview? He made very clear he dislikes Loumand and kinda make the same point Lestans do, they are all monsters so you can’t judge them. He also said Louis know he has some kind of power ove Lestat, he means Lestat loves him so much he knows how to hurt his feelings and being cruel I guess. I love him but he gave some points to the worst part of the fandom :/

I watched and took extensive notes and bitched on twitter.

To touch on Loumand first, here's the one positive thing he said that I wanted to get down word for word, cuz I knew the fandom would overlook it (not any of u, I mean in general).

"And, like, I think the fact he jumps into that relationship with Armand so quickly…which I think is, like, um….I think that it is based on something. There is an attraction, there is a pull. But, like, the fact that he jumps into that relationship in the way he does. And he has to construct this kind of dream version of Lestat. He's not able to be on his own. He's just not one of those people. He has to have a distraction and he has to have, I think, something to fight against. Like he needs…a….like a foil? He needs…he needs like…some…some passion but also somebody that he can disagree with and have a problem with. And it distracts him from all the problems he has with himself." (From the "Louis is finally living on his own" segment)

But, ya, overall...aside from saying at a point that he does feel bad for Armand (and complimenting Armand as an individual character outside of being with Louis), it is v heavy on disliking Loumand and kind of killing it all dead p instantly. He does say "Fuck Lestat" too but he also refers to them as "soulmates" and mentions the "vampire bond" and all (which I thought everyone agreed is not....rly real? Not in the way Louis is using it to excuse his pull to Lestat, anyway, but...idk w/e). But, ya, he says at a point that he feels like Loumand never rly even spent much time together. That Louis was always out eating and doing something and Armand would stay behind and "play house."

He also does later touch upon a fear of being too dismissive of them but also says he didn't understand their relationship in the book either and feels like the show is true to the book (it is and it isn't).

I mean. I think there's a lot that could be talked about more in all of this but Autumn isn't someone who...asks about much, so here we are.

Like. I fucking hated that whole "can't moralize," "they're all awful" shit too, bcuz ya I know the fandom is gonna run wild with that. I also think, sry to Jacob, that it's shit to say that? There's a lot u can still explore in a topic about a character's motivations. There's a LOT of racial motivations for things in these stories, for example, and it's v harmful to gloss over them and say they're all awful and it's just what it is. I also don't expect only the actors of color to speak on this tho, I think white actors should be talking about this more often too bcuz there's more protection there to speak about it without being seen as "a problem." I'm not trying to go too hard on Jacob for this part, just like I don't think Delainey needed to be the one asked about the trial (and still the only one who has been?).

There was a little bit of the cruelty part that I liked (this is in the "Louis's cruelty" section) where he calls threatening Lestat with "vampire loneliness" a "mutual punishment." I think there's a lot to explore there for the character of Louis, for the Loustat relationship, for what it does to Lestat too. But...not in this fandom lol. Not with the "mutual punishment" prbly leading to some bullshit about 1x5 again ffs. But there was a rly bad post in the last week about not being able to see all these "book" Louis qualities in Jacob's Louis and this is such a prime example of some real Catholic shit Louis does.

This is long. I might write separate posts later going into more stuff from my notes and having this sit in my head some more.

I want to be clear tho that this isn't meant to be any excuse for slamming Jacob or simplifying this down to shipping wars or whatever else. It's overall all connected to racism issues in this fandom and the ways that all of these conversations (or lack of them) affect these things too. All of these actors are their characters as well and all tend to speak from their perspectives and also know these stories from other angles and goals of the show instead of whatever reasons we're all here. I wish the interviews had more depth but I'm not trying to create more friction in the fandom with reducing this down to some kind of soundbite like "fuck Jacob cuz he doesn't like Loumand!" or w/e.

For context: I headcanon Draco has MANY exotic animals as pets, some of which being a King Cobra (King), and a Boa Constrictor (Sniper) who oddly get along very well and like.. do not like being separated.

Bonus: he has 2 Burmese pythons, the oldest (an adult) is named Ceasar... and is a girl.. yes Ceasar as in Ceasat Salad. Her full name is, in fact, Ceasar Salad, and his reason was he couldn't think of anything better... the youngest (a juvenile. Definitely not full size yet hence why Draco will be appointing her flower girl) is named Burma.

He also has a cobalt blue (tarantula) who he oh so creatively named Cobalt, he has a Candy Cane cornsnake he for some reason named Jalapeño, and an Albino Cornsnake he named Fettuccine. He laughed for a good hour while picking those names and it stuck. Jalapeño and Fettuccine are also siblings- a brother and a sister. Guess which is the brother and which is the sister. (Spoiler alert: Jalapeño is the sister)

He has a ball python he named Bob. The most human name and so far the most normal snake he has... Bob is a girl too lmao- he named her Bob before he found out she was a girl but he decided not to change it so whenever he tells people about her he's just "Yeah I love Bob, she's my pet snake-" "SHE?" whats sapnaps lore?

I've talked about this before, would heavily recommend just reading his wiki tho.

This is long, all the info under read more :P this is basically c!sapnap loveposting or whatever you call it.

But! Here's some cool stuff about c!Sapnap.

He originally wanted to fight on L'manburg's side, his history of being friends with the OG L'manburg crew goes back awhile, especially Tommy.

He's always been highly protective and defensive of his friends, especially his fiances.

After the end of the pet wars, and his talks with Tommy, he's not killed an animal intentionally since. He has stated he regrets hurting others in the way he did.

The dreamon hunter arc with him joining was super cool.

Although not explicitly stated, it is highly likely Sapnap, unintentionally, caused the egg's vines to spread. He 'cracked' the egg when trying to destroy it/free BBH really early on. Directly after it'd started to spread worse and worse.

He's canonically some sort of demon, or netherborn being. He's 'born from fire', and BBH is canonically his father.

He's the first out of him and George to have started seeing Dream for who he is- I'd say this roughly began at the start of Tommy's exile, but the feelings had been growing for awhile. He'd talk to Tommy in private about things Dream said, such as not caring about anyone/anything. When it came to the El Rapids fight, and the huge DTeam fight, he called Dream out on B.S.. He fought on the side of Tommy in Doomsday, not only because Tommy asked but because he also knew Dream was wrong and would do awful things.

During Doomsday, Technoblade had started to attack Quackity. Sapnap screamed for him to get away and they started to PVP. Sapnap got Techno about only one hit away from dying that day, Techno had to pearl away and eat a god apple.

During the final disc confrontation, he immediately places himself between Tommy, Tubbo, and Dream, defending them directly. He continues to do this nearly the entire time. He also helped put Dream into the prison.

When visiting Dream in prison, he tells Dream he still recognizes him as a friend but he can't excuse his actions, as they were downright awful, and he can't forgive him. He still loves him as a friend, but no amount of love for his friend would let him excuse things he'd done. This is why he is willing to be the one to kill Dream- because they're friends, and he wont let him hurt other people.

Sapnap is in constant support of Tommy and has been for awhile. He would've let him move into Kinoko Kingdom if not for Wilbur hanging back around (nothing directly against him, but he can't risk Kinoko or George & Karl's safety). When Tommy told him about Dream post-prison break, he immediately believed and trusted him, no question, unlike some other people.

Also here's some fun hypotheticals/other stuff!

IF Tubbo hadn't gone through with the exile of Tommy, and Dream had gone through with plan B, which was to build L'manburg's walls to build height and make sure they couldn't leave for supplies (like food, wood, stone, etc), it is very VERY likely that Sapnap would've been on their side. Dream said he would've had Sapnap & Punz patrol the walls, but at this point Sapnap already had taken issue in Dream's actions, he was heavily involved with Quackity, and had even been hanging out with Tommy on the side. It's likely there would've been some sort of smuggle plot where he would've taken people in/out of the border, or taken supplies in.

If it wasn't for Sapnap introducing Karl to the egg shortly after cracking it, when Karl went to the TFTSMP The Masquerade like a week later, he wouldn't have known the egg was still present on the server until it was too late. It's because of this, that Karl knew the egg was on the server before seeing it in Masquerade. When he'd caught wind of BBH trying to get Quackity under the egg's influence, he'd saved Quackity and threatened BBH. If this didn't happen, it's very likely Quackity would've been taken by the egg and been apart of the OG crew.

If Sapnap would've been able to kill Technoblade on Doomsday, Jack Manifold wouldn't have died. We also don't know how Phil or Dream would've reacted, but it could've stopped Doomsday prematurely (especially if Techno has planned to have the one life since the beginning, and thats not just a new development now).

If the Dreamon Hunter crew still existed, it's possible they would've looked into the egg, being that it was of questionable background and a supernatural entity. This would've had Sapnap once again have to face his father about the egg.

Also, Sapnap is one of the few people who have had a "finished" character growth/arc. He went from being someone who worked under Dream, hurt people and animals, to not wanting to do that anymore/regretting it and actively making a change to do and be better. This still happens, where he not only tries to make up for it, but continue to do good.

Like when I was initially drafting this fic I was gonna have Alex go with him but then I was like wait wait nah Aaron still lied to him and kind of manipulated him and Alex has his friends and his mom he wouldn’t be able to just leave them behind. - Lots of kisses x - I LOVED THAT LINE TOO lol. - Oh man, that scene was my favorite.

my theory is that mary says that i love you to dean to reach to him when he has forgotten everyone (sort of like the scripted i love you in the cript scene that they cut, i wouldn't be surprised if she also says something like we are family) my worries tho is that they're playing favorites with this gradual loss of memory, seems that dean has no problem remembering mary and sam but cas is the first one he's starting to forget? unnecessary why didn't they make him lose his memory all at once?

This is the sort of speculation I really don’t wanna get into because it’s constructing a whole narrative out of a completely out of context video, and we just don’t know what will happen because even our best guesses can’t account for random curveballs or the context around the quote, which could drastically change the meaning of the delivery. Maybe it’s from some totally different episode and Dean has some urgent reason to worry about Cas specifically - it was layered over Cas having the Horrible Thing Of The Week happen to him, all that black cracking. Which for my best guess would be 12x12 because witch with a grudge :P

For what it’s worth though, ignoring any potential context and just looking straight at that line on its own, to me I am reading that emphasis as very particularly weighted in a GOOD way emotionally towards whatever they’re saying when it comes to including/elevating Cas’s importance. 

For one thing he’s at the end of the list, and has the pause, the stammer and the repetition on his name. If it IS even from the memory episode, the fact that Mary is alive is an obvious thing that would create masses of turmoil for Dean because he’s barely just through all his new turmoil about her anyway. Mary is very important to Dean’s emotional arc this season and it would be low hanging fruit to have Dean reel off the names of the brother who’s been by his side the entire show, followed by his BFF who has been a feature of his life for nearly a decade, followed by stumbling awe/confusion/raw emotion to mention his mother as if he couldn’t even trust she was actually back. (for all the excellence of her return and how it’s been handled, Dean had shock but easy acceptance, because Mary shows up with no strings attached, he knows why, he knows Amara is fully capable of having done it, and so doubt about Mary’s return has been limited only to that one scene at the end of 12x06 where Billie suddenly throws a dark cloud of it - a memory episode dealing with Dean’s Mary issues would be great because it would introduce the uncertainty/doubt even stronger and maybe tackle her permanency some more…)

Similarly, if Dean mentioned Cas first as “Cas is my friend, Mary Winchester is my mother, and Sam - [broken noises trying to explain Sam is his brother and convey how much that means]” then of course the emphasis is a bro bond special emphasising what we already know and have the entire show, but WOULD be the obvious surface level way to take a ranking of who is the most important to Dean (as Dabb said in that last interview that people are taking out of context, Sam and Dean have an obvious history that does give them emotional precedence to each other that Cas an outsider would feel - which I think was what was going on in the car scene in 11x23 on the surface text certainly, that Cas finds “brother” a tough position to share with Sam, which all basically demands that Cas have something different with them that’s not trying to emulate what Sam and Dean have with each other)

Anyway, what we get is a line where Dean gives each member of his family some emotional consideration, but breaks up trying to explain what Cas is to him, and correcting himself to give Cas the right nickname that means more to Dean, and by putting him last, and having a moment of correction and some repetition, is inviting analysis on why that correction (from Castiel to Cas) and generally underlining the care taken in that explanation, and separates Cas from being lumped in with Sam (which, well, IS a high honour to be lumped with except clearly despite what Dean said in 11x23, Cas doesn’t get lumped with Sam, not in his heart, because there’s just something different about Cas to him, and the way he loves him feels different and he’s playing with definitions between brother and BFF)… 

If Dean IS forgetting everything and struggling with Cas the most, then all the careful picking of words is even more interesting, and dealing with losing Cas first isn’t the show just randomly wiping him out of Dean’s memory (especially since Mary has a couple of months so could easily go first and put Dean in a state where up untl the last second of 11x23 Mary wasn’t even a feature in his life any more aside from the obvious how it’s always been until then way…) It would mean a whole lot of screen time dedicated to Dean struggling to remember his relationship with Cas.

Remember in 7x17 where Cas gets his memories back and the first few flashes of memory are like the exact sort of Destiel fan video you’d have cobbled together at the time? Putting the focus on forgetting someone is asking what they’re forgetting and what it means to them to do so. And it says “rapidly losing his memory” so idk what you’re looking for but it seems like he will quickly have some huge and obvious chunks on the way to true oblivion of self… But it’s not a BAD thing for us to see a process of him losing pieces, because what those pieces are and how he loses them will be fascinating all by itself. 

I mean, it sounds like literal Cas erasure to suggest Dean might randomly forget Cas but if they’re writing an episode around it? sign me the fuck up for the most Destiel thing to ever happen in an episode that does not initially seem to be about or contain Cas. 

(Although I suppose the whole needing a witch to fix it thing and then if Dean starts babbling about Cas in front of witches probably would lead on to the next episode… KIND of about Cas. Hm. Interesting. That thought might be the first thing that feels suggestive to me the line could definitely be from 12x11…)

See now I’m speculating and you’ve talked me into the episode where Dean forgets Cas and I want exactly what you don’t, and I also don’t think this episode will happen because speculation is a dangerous game and the best we can do is come up with random scenarios and wait to see what ACTUALLY happens instead of them :P
