i personally use these silly little shows and interact so much with what these actors who live so far from my own reality because i want to use it as an escape route!

i'll be honest and say i don't remember when or how i switched back to asian media after spending a long time only watching western stuff, but i do know i made the switch because queer stories in western media were either a) being cancelled after one season, or b) having tragic/unfulfilling endings for poc/queer characters. I DON'T WANT THAT.

and imagine my surprise in like june of 2023 when i was looking up things to watch and stumbled over a silly little thai show about a loser who can go back in time with his crystal ball, and he tries to win over this girl he has been interested in forever and ends up falling for the guy who he saw as his rival? and ofc be my favorite had a lot of social commentary and personally, i think one of the most beautiful self-discovery journeys to this day in thai bl, but they had a happy ending, and they had an arc, and a story and it was a lot more than any western show could ever dream of giving me (am i saying thai shows, or gmm shows are perfect? no, i know its faults. what i am saying is that as a queer person living in south america, i wish i had these type of things to watch growing up. hayley kiyoko's girls like girls videoclip was the first time i remember seeing two young women kiss and let it be romantic and not fetichization.)

pluto's lastest episode about how non-inclusive the urban environment is for people with disabilities left such an impression they removed the sign that blocked the ada path. THESE STORIES MATTER!

and these stories matter even when they are silly romcoms about assassins brothers falling in love with two dudes, or about an introverted girl who just moved to the big city and hides her identity to flirt with the pretty and popular girl from her class, or about a grumpy veterinarian who suffers an accident and switches bodies with his sister and now he has to go on a country journey to get his body back with his former best friend he's in love with.

so yes, anon, i also hope this will be a fun show you can escape to and have that dose of serotonin even if for just an hour or two of your day. and i hope that even if it makes us cry, you'll be able to cry and allow yourself to let your worries out without feeling guilty about it. that's the magic of storytelling in my opinion, and i have an inkling we'll be up to a very good one that will play with our feelings like a roller-coaster.

Hi Gina. I just came across an AI made video where Harry was talking about Louis. (The sound was put on top of a videoclip from the Zane Lowe interview). (It was not on tumblr). It absolutely freaked me out. It's feels so far beyond everything thats okay with fandom. So disrespectful towards them. AI really needs to go away and leave us and them and everyone alone. At least this kind of misuse. It makes me so sad and angry.

I mean of course we want them to be able to talk about each other like that. (I didn't see all of it, cause it made me so deeply uncomfortable) But it has to be THEM. Maybe someday in the future. If they can and if they want to. Not some creepy fake artificial intelligence thing. It's stepping over a very clear line. If it's going to be like this I seriously don't want to be here. And I love this fandom so much. But these are real people and their lives and it's so disrespectful it makes me cry.

I'm still writing the sequel to Playing God with half-fae Noah dating a couple of vampires (Tim Henson and OFC Sadie), but there's this idea that doesn't wants to leave me alone and I don't even know if someone would like to read it¹, so I'm gonna pitch it here.

Is the story of how vampire!Noah falls in love with OFC told through flashbacks. OFC would be a young woman, about 25, with a tragic backstory. They help each other (Noah needs her help with stuff that has to do with her past) and that's how they fall in love. It would be multichapter and heavily inspired by the Kool-aid videoclip by Bring Me The Horizon. It would also feature the other members of Bad Omens.

¹ If it's interesting, I can alternate working between the two fanfics. If it's not, I think I can leave this new one for later².

Writing Original Characters – a rant that might be useful

Hello, everyone. This is a post different than usual. If you don’t know me, first of all, “hi” and second, I should probably talk about my experience in story writing beforehand.

I’m currently a 19-year-old student in communications (I’m not a native English speaker as you might be able to tell), but I also used to be a multimedia student in high school. I started writing and adapting scripts when I was 12 as a fun hobby with my friends, but I also found interest in writing at a young age – though you can say that passion of mine always stayed “saved” in a drawer. I truly started writing scripts for school at 15/16 and I still do, as well as short fictional stories for my personal entertainment. This next university semester, I’m also planning on taking scriptwriting classes. At some point in my life, I also wanted to be a critic of cinematography in videoclips, series, games etc. but that was just another idea I set aside. Even though I keep my ideas to myself, I’m currently writing a fanfic related to a band (it’s a Slovenian band called Joker Out, I truly recommend their music).

Just like in “actual writing” – whatever that might mean to you – when you bring life to original characters, you want your audience to feel something towards them. I’ve recently finished writing chapter 7 of my fanfiction and while I adored writing these past two chapters, they kind of “destroyed” my perception of my favorite chapter until then (Chapter 4). I’ll not go into heavy detail for the sake of avoiding spoilers for the two people who are reading it (I’m not joking, I’m this passioned about something that a maximum of 2 people are reading), but I got myself rooting for the “we didn’t work out” couple instead of the main ones.

I couldn’t wrap my head around it, after all, my original character had a personality, a background, and character flaws that are crucial to any character in any media format (and trust me, I’ve been in a rabbit hole of character and movie writing analysis videos lately) - it’s the way your audience gets to connect with your character.

However, I made a huge mistake. You see, even though I try to write in the POVs of the characters, I decided to break the “archetype” of “Oh, cutsie new character is in love with x and y person and they have to choose who they like. Here ya go: a list of all things they have done in their life”. In my story, I decided that the character already pre-existed and had already interactions with the characters pre-story. And it’s not until chapter 4 where we first get their POV which also doesn’t explain much about the character… So, by the time we get to chapter 6 – which, again, I’ll not dive into– we still know nothing about this character and. We know their name, their age, their love for their country and their job, and that they are a little bit emotional and apologetic.

As I wrote more, I’ve come to realize that the only chance I’ll get “to fix” my character for it to still be likable is by getting more info out of them or else the story will just get boring and annoying. I thought I hated the character because I made the mistake of making it so similar to me. In reality, the character just lacks information. It’s good to hold back some information from the reader, but not too much. I know all their traumas, I know all my character went through and I know why their flaws make them great, but the reader doesn’t.

Honestly, the conclusion to this personal rant of mine is: Don’t be afraid to give information to your audience. People need something to relate to and especially in this day and age where the spam of our concentration was somehow reduced to less than a fucking goldfish. More than just telling compelling or realistic stories, have characters whose stories people want to dive into and learn more about, and share them in an interesting way.

Atomic music – stronger than you know

I am a music fan. I like to listen to music a lot. And watch too. So, it is a pop music. Rock, gothic, disco. Different. So, I want to make a message about what I listened.

At music label Atomic Fire Records is written musicians as Jag Panzer, Udo. They have a new releases.

Jag Panzer, even, make a new album. With some videoclips for a new songs. Artist for me, this is new. And, when I turn him on, I do not get some things, at first time. It is heavy metal. It is typical rock. With interesting guitars. In some places, even, with interesting melodies. But, mainly, it is rock rhythm heavy metal music. For change with Judas Priest. Something like this. From age of Painkiller. Excellent record. When I listen it, I get that it is a little military, about music and text.

Later, also videoclips. And I get that, it is not a little, but a full program. Songs like “We are stronger than you know”. It is obvious reference to some wolf, and some things like this in a clip. It is obvious military style. It is war style heavy metal. In some clip I saw musicians themselves.  Singer is a wild. With white hairs. It is remarkable. But, I do not expect all these. It is a surprise. I think they will be look more civilized.

 But, music a thing you need. For fans of heavy metal and military – it is a thing you need. All songs are like bullets. As cool action movies. Rock with full program. Military style with full scale.

Udo – it is well known musician since 80s, rock musician. Style military. I like a lot record Mean Machine. I can recommend to everyone.  It is 80s, it is military. It is Soviet Union. And military style songs. As I thing, it is about some soldier, but in a Hollywood style. I like these songs – streets on fire, lost passion. Also, I am surprised by song – Still in love with you. Which is most short song. I ever heard in my life. And it is a rock, with no words. Just rock guitar, and it sounds very remarkable. So, it is a music phrase.

So, this is UDO. As I do joke on him DIKshnaider. As I find it more fun, you know. He gives a news song for you. Touchdown. There is a videoclip. There is a new song. Cool record. It is still metal. Still heavy metal.  After so many years. It is amazing.

Sul serio, sono totalmente preso e sto cercando di assorbire il più possibile da ogni singolo spettacolo e palco presentato e solcato finora dai ragazzi.

Ora che i riflettori sono puntati su V, c'è fibrillazione nell'aria–Layover, il tuo primo album solista, verrà rilasciato l'8 settembre. Questa tua impresa artistica è ormai entrata nel vivo, ma quali sono stati i pensieri e sentimenti predominanti negli ultimi mesi di processo creativo?

V: Mi sembra passata un'eternità dall'ultima volta che ho lavorato e ho incontrato le/gli ARMY individualmente. Volete sapere qual era il pensiero più pressante? ‘Dovrei forse mettermi a dieta, se voglio che sia un comeback in grande stile?’ Potete fidarvi quando dico che era diventata una vera e propria ossessione (ride).

Degna di nota, riguardo Layover, è la collaborazione con Min Hee-jin, la presidentessa di ADOR nonché il genio creativo dietro le NewJeans. Per quale motivo hai deciso di coinvolgerla in qualità di produttrice, per questo progetto?

V: Volevo mostrare un lato diverso della mia musicalità, rispetto ai miei lavori precedenti, e questa collaborazione mi è sembrata il modo più adatto per raggiungere quell'obiettivo. Lo spunto principale è arrivato da(ll'album) 'Pink Tape' delle F(x), e l'ho contattata subito dopo essermene ricordato. Abbiamo avuto scambi creativi davvero soddisfacenti, coprendo ogni dettaglio del caso, e l'intero processo non ha incontrato intoppi. La produttrice Min ha messo a mia disposizione la sua passione ed esperienza. Inoltre è una persona davvero accogliente e piacevole.

Chiaramente tu non sei estraneo alla sala registrazioni; tuttavia, affrontare un progetto solista era un'esperienza ancora inesplorata, per te. Hai scoperto qualcosa di nuovo sul tuo conto – fossero anche solo sfumature ancora inedite della tua artisticità - durante questo viaggio?

V: L'intero processo mi ha ricordato i miei giorni di addestramento da trainee. È stato come riscoprire la mia identità canora. Così facendo, quasi per caso, ho scoperto nuovi aspetti della mia vocalità– più vicino a certe tonalità ed enunciazioni rispetto a prima.

Facciamo un salto nel passato, allora: in una puntata di <BTS Gayo>, ti abbiamo visto in una perfetta esibizione di ‘Love's Twist’ di Sul Wun-do. Ora, tornando rapidamente allo scorso giugno, ti abbiamo anche sentito in serenate jazz sui grandi classici del passato. La tua voce ha questa rara maturità naturale, specialmente nelle tonalità più basse, che ti distingue da molti dei cantanti della tua età. Conosci bene le tecniche canore che meglio possono esprimere questo tuo fascino?

V: Mi piacciono diversi generi musicali e spesso mi ritrovo a canticchiare tra me e me. Grazie ai preparativi per quest'album solista, posso dire veramente di aver scoperto la mia essenza canora, ed è proprio questo che ha reso il tutto estremamente gratificante.

Trovi che Layover sia più una raccolta di ciò in cui V brilla maggiormente o di ciò che ama?

V: È un mix di entrambe le cose. In Layover, ho fuso i miei punti di forza con ciò che amo. Sono impareggiabile, quando si tratta di questo tipo di atmosfere (ride). Vorreste maggiori dettagli?... Beh, per ora non posso ancora svelarveli.

Tu e Jungkook spesso condividete le vostre bozze musicali? Dopo il recente rilascio del suo progetto solista, ‘Seven’ - a luglio, Jungkook ha rivelato che tu sei stato il primo a sentire la sua canzone. Tuttavia, ha anche candidamente ammesso le dissonanze musicali tra voi, osservando ‘A dire il vero, abbiamo gusti piuttosto diversi. V è più per le sonorità calme e chic’. Che cosa significa, per te, quel ‘chic’?

V: Ahahah, per me ‘chic’ ha diversi significati. Prendete, ad esempio, RM. Ha scritto questo inedito pazzesco, il brano che ha presentato – magnificamente - a sorpresa durante il concerto encore di SUGA. Ogni volta che sento quella canzone, penso ‘Voglio cantare anche io un brano così chic, prima o poi.’

In quanto artista, dovrai sicuramente affrontare diversi stadi e passaggi prima di poter presentare i frutti del tuo lavoro al resto del mondo. Quale momento in questo processo è più elettrizzante, per te?

V: Dare vita concreta ad un progetto o concept artistico fino ad allora solo immaginato è, senza dubbio, già elettrizzante di per sé, nonché una grandissima soddisfazione – sia che si tratti di video musicali o servizi fotografici.

Persino icone globali del tuo calibro, talvolta, si lasciano sopraffare dall'agitazione. Come riesci a mantenere la calma? Chi o cosa ti è d'aiuto per restare in bolla?

V: A dire il vero, devo confessare che trovo un certo fascino nella tremarella che precede un'esibizione. È entusiasmante, una felice trepidazione. Mi piace quel tipo di tensione.

C'è forse qualche complimento che riesce a tirarti particolarmente su di morale?

V: Beh… ogni complimento è sempre il benvenuto. Quando ne ricevo, praticamente ballo felice fino a casa.

Se dovessi prendere in esame la tua personalità, quali tratti o sfumature di quest'ultima apprezzi maggiormente?

V: Anche se non sono sempre attivo o veloce in ciò che faccio, ho una certa costanza e resistenza, procedo saldo come una nave cisterna

Abbiamo tuttə delle vulnerabilità. Quale pensi sia il tuo tallone d'Achille?

V: Forse i miei tempi? Sono solito seguire un mio ritmo, e questo, probabilmente, mette a dura prova la pazienza delle/gli ARMY, a volte. Parlo, ad esempio, del mio album solista– l'attesa si è protratta piuttosto a lungo. In realtà, l'idea originale era pubblicarlo a dicembre dello scorso anno; ma il processo creativo ha richiesto più tempo del previsto, e di questo sono molto dispiaciuto nei confronti delle/i fan.

Nei momenti cruciali della tua esistenza, tendi maggiormente ad affidarti al tuo intuito o cerchi consiglio nella tua cerchia di conoscenze?

V: Ho piena fiducia nel mio istinto, ma sono sempre aperto e pronto ad assorbire i consigli che mi arrivano dalle persone a me vicine. Sono entrambi molto importanti per me.

Conducendo una vita sempre sotto i riflettori, non c'è dubbio tu abbia vissuto diversi momenti magici. Tuttavia, col passare del tempo, provi forse un minore senso di meraviglia rispetto a quello degli inizi?

V: Interessante.. Sì, certo, ci sono stati momenti in cui il palcoscenico m'è parso meno elettrizzante. Per mantenere vivo quel senso di meraviglia e gratitudine, credo di dover trovare nuovi lati e sfaccettature della mia arte e personalità, così da evolvere. È proprio questo desiderio di riscoperta e rinnovamento che sta alla base del mio nuovo album.

Nonostante dal punto di vista artistico, man mano che accumuli nuove esperienze, tu continui a crescere e ad evolvere, c'è forse qualche aspetto di V – o forse dovremmo dire di Kim Taehyung – che rimane sempre uguale?

V: La ricerca della felicità, per quanto piccola o passeggera possa essere. Che si tratti dell'amicizia con gli altri membri, l'atmosfera speciale di un set o anche il pensiero fugace dei giorni di riposo a venire o di ciò che mangerò oggi– questi piccoli e gioiosi momenti di felicità sono molto importanti, per me.

Col dispiegarsi della vita, quali sono le tue aspirazioni più ambiziose, al momento?

V: Forse vi sorprenderà, ma solitamente non nutro grandi ambizioni. Mi è stato detto che i miei desideri sono di natura temperata. Ovviamente, avere ambizioni ed obiettivi è positivo, ma io sono solito misurare le giornate in gradi di felicità. Ciononostante, quando si tratta di un servizio fotografico, divento piuttosto ambizioso (ride).

Poniamo ci sia la perfetta confluenza di tempo, spazio ed opportunità, qual è un'esibizione cui ti piacerebbe lavorare e portare alla luce? Il palcoscenico dei tuoi sogni?

V: Tutto ruota sempre intorno alle/gli ARMY. Stare insieme, sentire la loro energia– quello è fondamentale.

I just noticed something really interesting between MCR and Lestat.

Ok, so I brought you my bullets, you brought me your love by My Chemical Romance was released on 2002, and Queen of the Damned was released too on 2002. And there's this reference in both of them...

On I brought you my bullets, you brought me your love there's the song I will focus about: Vampires will never hurt you. Obviously, the main point here is the vampire, with both this song and the film (an adaptation of the second and third book of Vampire Chronicles, focusing on Lestat). But this is not about the meaning or the characters, no...

it's about the videoclips.

For those that don't know about Queen of the Damned, it focuses on both past of Lestat (XVIII century) and his experience coming back from "coma" on the 80s. Long story short, he becomes a Rockstar, and because of this, QOTD has 3 videoclips: System, Redeemer and Forsaken, all three written my Jonathan Davies (singer of KoRn) and, in some versions, sung by him too.

I will focus on the videoclip for Forsaken. The song is great, listen to it, but for this, watch it. The references to The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Das Kabinette des Dr. Caligari) are obvious, it is mostly a tribute to that film, and it catches the essence of it (maybe even spoils you the end).

Now, watch Vampires will never hurt you's videoclip. Notice something? Well, it isn't a direct reference to the plot of Das Kabinette (I will touch this later), but there is to German Expressionism. Look at the windows and dramatism of the eyebags... Yes, I thought of this parallelism for obvious reasons.

But you might think, "that is not enough, German Expressionism isn't only Das Kabinette". Well, I ask you to look at this short edit for Das Kabinette. MCR uses hard lighting, stops middle way to put some lines... ok, obvious, add to that the man-woman romance and the man being an outcast. Yep.

At first I thought "what a coincidence, maybe one of them was inspired by the other", well... MCR's album (including the videoclip, it was shown at the record release show) was released on May 27, 2002; Queen of the Damned, February 22, 2002. So we see that there was 3 months for MCR to see it, get inspiration and create based on the Forsaken videoclip. "Oh but it takes time and they must have thought about it befo-", WHY? It was recorded May 15-27 of the same year, this means, a minimum of 82 days for them to see it.

There are little coincidences on this life, my people!

Now what we need to know is: Is this true? And there are two ways out:

It was a mere coincidence. Both videoclips about vampires had the same movie as an inspiration (weird thing ngl). This would bring the question: Why is this movie such an inspiration for vampire-related pop-culture?

It was premeditated, just no one thought about it before for some strange reason.

So, tumblr community: Help me figure this out. Should we try to reach Gerard Way? Should we try to reach other members that worked on the project?

If you are a classical musician and this kind of work doesn't seem to you too cool or sophisticated (well, I think it's cool enough)

You must understand this is a way for you to beginning your epic stage experience, of your new repertoire, your creative works, your new compositions

When we talk about Concerts in Stadiums, filling stadiums, we are talking about a range of possibilities like Cirque du Soleil ballets, Zen concerts, Celtic epic concerts, music battles, religious ERA epics, orchestras with epic chorus, orchestra with Symphonic Metal guitar bands, cellist soloist playing on their feet, violinists who dance. There is room for work and criativity.

In the Epic Concerts in Stadiums the soloist interact with the audience, play on his feet, sings, play by heart, dances, narrate stories, perform acrobacies.

Mostly I feel sad good musicians like the cellists below (James Baik and Eugene Lin) don't make their music a powerful experience for the audience, like Muse concerts (as an example). We classical players must be taught in school how to make our recitals a HUGE STAGE SHOW.

In classical concerts the audience cannot talk, clap or move in their chairs. We are competing with Rock and Tailor Swift now for audience. We cannot give the audience less than what Rolling Stones give to them.

The religious Classical music experience in concert halls is still our job. OK. We are a kind of religion for a few iniciates. This is cool, we can keep it. But there are tones of other experiences we as musicians can give to the audience.

We can keep playing opera concert magic concerts with soloist like Andrea Boccelli. People love them, they get very emotional, very moved, it's like magic. But there are other structures today we can develop.

When 2cellos showed up playing cool rock videoclips, plus concerts with 2 parts (first Classical in acoustic cellos, 2nd rock with electric cellos) they changed the paradigma for us. They changed the future of the Classical experience. We need to be humble and listen to what the audience wants to hear. I'm sure we are creative and talented enough to complete the task, to fulfill this challenge.
