Thanos is an…interesting person, he captivates the room, gets all the girls, loves the attention.

You are the other hand are nothing like that, you are reserved, you have barely held hands with someone, and you hate being put out on the spot.

You both are the two sides of the same coin, the same but so different.

When Se-mi met you, she didn’t believe you were Thanos’s younger sister until she came over to your house. She felt so into you, you were smart, kind, sweet. You were very shy until you both had gotten closer than you let down a wall only for her.

Likewise, she has a little spot in her heart for you, she felt bad, you kinda had to take care of your older brother since your parents weren’t around and Thanos was drowning himself in drugs and alcohol.

That’s why you never partake in said activities, you hated watching your brother destroy himself slowly, you always scolded him as you made him a meal to help his hangovers or highs.

“Really Su-bong you downed three bottles of soju, wh-what would our parents say, huh?” Min-su and Nam-gyu was carrying him into the living room onto the couch, Se-mi stood next to you the whole time, as much as she loved seeing Thanos in such an embarrassing state, she didn’t like you being in distress.

Thanos tried to explain himself but you held your hand making him cut himself off, you walked into the kitchen with Se-mi following you.

“ *sigh* I apologize for my brother’s antics…again,’ you laid your head on the counter before going to the fridge and grabbing a water.

“No worries, I would rather babysit Thanos for decades, if it means I get to be here with you,” you looked to her, smiling all giddy. You two had some silent attraction to each other. You knew she liked you and she knows you like her, it was all on who was gonna say what.

“Thanks for being here, Se-mi,” you walked up to her, kissing her cheek before going to give your brother his water. She touched the spot you just kissed, she looks down her face becoming red.

A couple of weeks later, your brother was out recording his little tracks, Se-mi came over to your house for the fifth time that week, she might as well sleep over at this point.

You were laying your legs across Se-mi’s lap, she traces her fingers on your legs, she smirks watching how you got all flustered.

“Hey umm (your nickname),” you looked up at her, titling your head. She leans her head back onto the headboard.

“I um I really really like you, like these past few months, I have never felt this way about someone, like come on, I have chosen to hang around Thanos of all people to be with you,” you giggled, you took her face into her hand, you kissed her cheek and looked to her.

“i like you too, Se-mi, I never though could love but…you made happen. Are you really sure you want to be with me though cause that also means committing to my brother in a way,” she sighs pulling you into her. “Like I said I would spend decades babysit that man-child if it means having you with me every day,” she kisses me all over your face as you laugh.

~ there is a bit of angst here! also, i really tried to keep shidou and character and read loads of analysis for this huhu so good luck to me!! i hope you guys would like it as much as you loved the first part! + reader is a nurse and toxic shidou! 😌 i tried to keep it realistic guys, we all known it's not going to be all rainbow and skittles with shidou in it.

fast forward to five years later. five fucking years. you don't know how you made it that far, but somehow, you managed to get yourself out of that hellhole.

well, after finding out that you were pregnant, your initial reaction was to tell your parents about it. you were young and they still paid for your college fees that time, so you know that they have the right to at least hear from you.

as you expected, your parents did not have the best reactions. your dad scolded you— even slapped you, and your mom called you a slut, then they started fighting and blaming each other on whose fault is this.

suddenly, the fact that you're pregnant is no longer about you and the baby, but it's about blaming who was the worse parent between the both of them. your dad blamed your mom for caring too much about her appearance and not paying attention to you, while your mom blamed your dad for not protecting you enough and being around. in actuality, both are horrible.

you swore you'll never want your kid to grow up in this kind of hell you were raised in. that's why you felt so much joy when your parents agreed to help you but they asked you to move out to your grandparents’ house in a far away rural area so people wouldn't see you ‘blowing up like a balloon’ (as what your mom said) and ‘bringing shame to the family’.

luckily, compared to your parents, your grandparents are good people. they comforted you and made sure that you're well-fed during your pregnancy.

you ended up giving birth to a little girl, which you named miyu. she was born with your hair color, pink orbs, and tanned skin. her nose and eye shape weren't yours. you didn't even want to think about who does it remind you of.

it wasn't easy to have her either. miyu was a handful baby and post-partum depression did not sit well with you. but luckily, your grandmother is around.

shortly after that, you decided to go back to college while working part-time. all while miyu was growing. if you didn't have your grandparents, you surely wouldn't be able to survive. they were a huge help to your studies, and in taking care of miyu.

after your studies, you went back to the city to look for a better job as a registered nurse around tokyo. you thanked your grandparents and took your daughter with you.

about shidou… well, you've seen him on TV and he's doing well, winning lots of football games, and even having some dating rumours. you hated every inch of him. you hated how he act all smug and cocky on TV. you hated how he never even tried to contact you after that night. you hated how he did well while you struggled to survive.

the only comfort that you had was miyu's smile. she is a very cheerful child. she's very friendly towards people and she's a social butterfly. the first time you took her to the nursery, she became friends with everyone.

anyway, you're working as a registered nurse around tokyo's biggest hospital. luckily, miyu's preschool is nearby. but with no one to watch over, you would fetch her during your free time and bring her back to your workplace.

“y/n, doctor nishimura needs your assistance in his office in third floor.” your co-worker said and you rushed going there.

when you arrived, you were asked to call the patients’ name in the waiting area and assist in medical check-ups, like taking their height, weight, blood pressure, and etc. it was all good. you were doing just fine. until you saw who the last patient is.

“sh-shidou r-ryusei…” there was a light stutter in your voice as you turned pale, an expression of shock written on your face. it seemed that he's here for some athlete medical checkup or whatever it's called.

the moment shidou saw you, he did not recognize you at first. but seeing how awkward you were while taking his blood pressure, he finally recognized who you are.

“wait, aren't you y/n?” shidou asked then started talking to you like a casual friend who's trying to catch up. you didn't respond well. he told you that he'll be in a 3-month long vacation after winning a huge match in france.

when you were left alone with him as you were asked to assist him althroughout, like going to the cashier and settling payment, (since the doctor said that other patients might harass him since he's famous), he fucking dropped the bomb that made you erupt.

“if you're interested, we could hang out together while i'm in tokyo. like the old times.” he said in a smug voice, obviously hinting to something sexual.

you stopped while walking, looking down. shidou, who only continued, wondered as you stayed that way for seconds. shidou looked at you curiously. he slowly approached you, but your hand seemed to have another plans, giving him a slap on the cheek.

shidou looked at you shocked for seconds while holding his cheek, then his face changed into smirk before he told you “come on, you can't be mad over something that happened years ago, right? what happened to the good girl y/n?” he gave you a menacing look.

but before you could say anything, a small high-pitched voice reached out from your behind. “mommy, i'm hungry!”

seeing your daughter, you left shidou and approached your daughter, carrying her in your arms, telling her how you'd get her some cookies from the pantry.

as your carried miyu in your arms while walking away, shidou could not help it but to stare back at the pink orbs of the little girl which sparked curiosity. that, combined with the little girl's tanned skin and nose— shidou already fucking knew who that little girl is.

after that day, shidou would visit you during working hours. he would go there, trying to ask you to hangout with him, with that permanent smug look that you hated the most.

he did this for the whole afternoon. luckily, today, you were able to hire a babysitter for miyu because you expected to work overtime. you doubt he would leave you alone, not giving you some time to fetch her.

even after your shift, shidou was still there. you got fed up and asked him why the hell is he bothering you during work hours, even telling him to get lost.

but shidou still seemed to be unfazed by you freaking out. instead of saying anything, he just said “awww, don't you want me to get to know your little girl too? are you gonna hog her all by yourself?”

that's when you lost it. you dragged him in the hospital's parking lot and asked him what he truly wants.

shidou asks you to enter his car so you guys could ‘talk more’. thinking that he's just scared of the paparazzis, you agreed to talk with him inside his car with tinted glasses.

when you both sat on the front seats, he waited for you to speak first and you broke the silence.

you told him that you found out that you were pregnant after that night and you didn't get to tell him because he blocked you everywhere on social media. you're mad because he promised that he's going to be with you after but he left without saying anything.

shidou basically just gaslit you and told you that you never tried hard enough like contacting him thru his emails. he even had the guts to victimize himself and say that he felt hurt you never told him.

“just shows how my little y/n won't trust me enough to look after our poor little baby and that makes me sad.”

you rolled your eyes and attempted to get off the car, when shidou held your hand, trying to stop you. you decided to stop and take one last look at him. he holds your hand tighter, but not in a hurting way.

“oh hell nah, y/n. don't do this to me, i'm a changed man, ya know?”

you told shidou that if he's planning to ghost you again, he's never gonna get to know miyu. he is not going to be her first heartbreak. you made it clear to him.

shidou was like, “i know i didn't keep my promise to you, but i'm not a monster to do the same thing to her.”

you still didn't believe him, until he told you that he wants to show how serious he is. “give me your bank account number” but you didn't want to give it to him because of your pride.

but then he started saying “you sure you don't want my help? you were eating a one-dollar ramen during lunchtime. how can you even give what's best if you can't even give yourself anything?”and he said it in a taunting voice. oh boi, all these years and he's still so good at provoking people.

so you ended up giving your bank account details. you received a notification on your phone saying that you just received 7 million yen— about 50k dollars. you looked at him in disbelief.

“also, don't let her wear those ugly floral dresses. buy her something else.”

you muttered a quiet ‘thank you’ altho you didn't really wanna say that but you know you needed to.

both of you agreed on a co-parenting situation. for visits, he would visit your daughter in your apartment every weekend. you wanted those instead of public because paparazzis may spot your daughter. she doesn't deserve that kind of toxicity yet.

first time visiting your apartment, shidou basically roasted your house and bought you a whole apartment just two floors way from his own apartment. “and you said you didn't need my help? i don't think my baby should even live in this place.” you moved in that place a month after he first met miyu.

the first time they met each other… you hate to admit it, but they got along really well. both of them weren't too emotional about it. it was just like two best friends meeting each other and having a lighthearted conversation. you observed miyu and it seems that she's at ease around shidou.

“miyu, that's your dad.” oh boi she ran so fast in his arms and hugged him. luckily, he caught her. since then, the both of them have been talking. miyu liked calling shidou his ‘daddy’. and honestly, shidou was proud of it.

shidou was the fun dad. you'll say ‘no ice cream’ and he's gonna bring your daughter ice cream while you're not around. when you say that she shouldn't eat sweets after brushing her teeth, shidou would just tell her to have some then she can brush her teeth after. so in no time, miyu became a ‘daddy's girl’ while you were the ‘no-fun and strict’ mom (as said by shidou when miyu's not around).

the whole co-parenting setup was okay. but shidou would make advances towards you whenever miyu is not looking. he would flirt with you, saying how your genes looked great when mixed together and sometimes, he would bring up that miyu needs a playmate. you would only roll your eyes at him, saying that you'd rather die than to repeat the same mistake.

it was all peaceful. you were starting to put your trust in him— until you saw a selfie of shidou and miyu all over the news and headlines. it seemed that he posted her on his insta, without your consent.

you did not like that one bit. both of you told each other that if he wants to something like this, he needs to talk to you first. again, shidou forgot to keep up with his word.

with an angry tone, you immediately called shidou and asked to talk to him in private. he asked you to come over to his apartment— and you were hesitant at first, but you agreed. you decided to drop off miyu at the local daycare center, just so the both of you could talk it out.

Why does everyone portray Caleb to be 'dark romance, zade meadows' coded? :/

Yeah he's got yandere traits to wanna keep her forever and for himself but he never implies that he'll hurt mc- instead expressing a fierce desire to protect her, so why do ppl write ffs Abt him being manipulative? Making him have 'rough jealous s*x' in which he's spewing a bunch of hurtful things just to manipulate mc to his liking?

I guess it's because of the initial show of possessiveness in his trailer, but literally every love and deepspace guy is possessive so why portray him so darkly?

Hello there anon! I'm glad you think my portrayal of Caleb feels more realistic than some other interpretations. I really don't know where this concept of comparing Caleb to Zade comes from since Zade literally r**es the MC in that book and I simply can't picture Caleb doing that?

This might be a much longer response than you'd expected and I'm sorry, but I've been taking little notes as I went through Caleb's memories, anecdotes, and myth. I feel like most of the people that are portraying him in this sadistic way simply didn't read all the material and just clicked through to get the diamonds.

So let me start by saying, all the other 4 LI's met MC quite recently, meaning they had no say in her life and weren't there when the Chronorift Catastrophe occurred. They met her as an adult, when she'd had time to put herself together and act like a rational grown woman.

Caleb met her at the worst time in their lives as a child until Josephine adopted them. They trauma bonded and after all they've been through together, they're extremely possessive of each other. Not just Caleb, but even the MC as well. She's just as paranoid and possessive about Caleb as well, and this is evidenced in their memories which I will delve into shortly.

But imagine being so close and growing up with this person that you think you know like the back of your own hand. She and Caleb appeared to be quite close up until the explosion. Now MC had to deal with the loss of her second family, and possibly the love of her life. Yes, I said it. The love of her life, because after going through the memories, there's nothing that can be said to change my mind that these two weren't in some kind of relationship before Caleb's death.

Now Caleb is back. MC is wary of him, she's scared to be possessive of him like she was because she knows what it's like to lose him. Caleb has no idea where he stands in her life, and inside it's because he knows he fucked up. He realizes he wants her back, the same woman who was just as obsessed and possessive of him like how he was with her and he has no idea how to fix it.

Caleb imo slides into the tip of the yandere iceberg because of that scene in the main story where he says he'll rebuild their house in Linkon and they can move in together etc. To me, that's the effect of the chip (more to be discussed about that below), and also him literally breaking down because MC said his worst fear to his face; she doesn't need him anymore. How do you recover from having the one person you've loved for most of your life look at you with so much hate and say they don't need you? (reminded me of Sylus a little bit when he's told MC is disgusted by him) For him to be truly yandere, he would have locked her up then and there but he doesn't. He backs off, allows her to get back to her life unharmed, and he keeps himself busy with work. That doesn't look like true yandere behavior to me.

NOW. MYTH EVIDENCE. The part with the chips. The chips seem to exacerbate certain feelings that already exist and take them to the extreme, hence why people who are chipped are very emotionless and almost have a robotic character to them, perhaps to avoid the pain of being emotional. In his myth, we find Caleb actively fights the chip, and it puts so much strain on his body that he falls unconscious or goes into fits. I think that 'yandere' scene is because the chip and his body are at odds with each other. Even MC when she chips herself, finds herself being manipulative of Caleb, trying to make him think of memories that were only half-truths. They're both obsessed with each other, and without the chip, it was fine, but with chip, things get crazy.

Also, I think it's safe to say, Caleb hasn't shown yandere tendencies towards MC in the past pre explosion, beyond telling her to be careful during missions or to let her know when she got hurt. He wasn't upset because she wasn't staying at home, he's upset because she's hiding things from him (like when she lied about getting scratched by a cat pre explosion).

NOW ONTO THE MEMORIES. Because omg, there's so much evidence in the memories that Caleb realizes his limitations in his ability to care for her. In their bond memory Rain's Embrace, when MC is asleep on his shoulder, Caleb literally says something along the lines of "I promise not to be so overprotective of you." He says something similar in Endless Summer and Exclusive Aftertaste, stating he knows his tendency to protect her isn't good for either of them.

And to show how possessive MC was of him. In the memory Longtime Yesterday, we find out Caleb was super popular in college and many girls tried to befriend him by giving him bento boxes. His friends teased him saying "Miss Apple" helped him avoid having to accept the bento boxes. MC literally sulks all the way back to the airport and when Caleb asks her what's wrong she goes, "You have a Miss Apple," like that was a perfectly plausible explanation. Miss Apple turns out to be a hairtie that Caleb took from MC that has apple shaped beads on it and he wears it (presumably on his wrist) all the time, which drove away unwanted attention from other girls. MC was so upset prior to hearing this, and Caleb reassures her that he doesn't want anyone else's attention but her's.

In Borrowed Promise, which occurs when MC is still in high school, Caleb is visiting from college and MC has a fight with a friend who is a girl (important). Caleb notices she's unhappy and takes her to a fair of sorts to cheer her up and she tells him she's worried someone may not like her anymore. Caleb tries to act nonchalant but you can tell he's thinking MC has a boyfriend or a crush and he goes "their loss but oh well you're not for everyone." It's at this point she tells Caleb it's a girl and he's dumbfounded but his relief is evident.

And my favorite, Stage Observer. MC is helping Caleb empty his dorm since he's about to graduate from college and she finds an envelope tucked away in one of his books with cutesy apples on the surface. She mistakenly thinks this is a love letter and then gives a very confused Caleb the cold shoulder for the rest of her visit. Then on his graduation day, she softens and helps fix his tie as he's about to give his valedictorian speech. During this time, she admits she's scared about him finding someone else and he says he worries about her meeting someone else too, but he's happy having just her and grandma in his life. In his speech, Caleb talks about how people go through their whole looking for meaningful connections with people but he's fortunate to have found the one person he knows he can count on. Afterwards, MC runs to him and gives him what I think is their first kiss. And why does she do this? She says, "I kissed you so you can't have a girlfriend now!" Caleb is confused and then she finally admits seeing the envelope. Well guess what? It turns out the envelope actually holds a good luck charm she had sent Caleb but the cover got ruined so Caleb replaced it with the apple envelope. He teases her but the ending implies they now know how they feel for each other and that was the start of a more romantic relationship between them.

So there. MC is just as possessive and obsessed with Caleb as he is with her. He knows that and it's because he's so in tune with these feelings that to him, his actions don't seem out of line, because that's how he expects her to be with him as well. I think like the other boys, his love is limitless, he literally says, "I love you more than you realize" in his myth. He's struggling with mental health and trauma and I think people just want to downplay him for various reasons without delving into the complexity of his character, or the incredible history he has with MC, not from a past life, but in this very real, present one. He was there with her during a time when she didn't know a Xavier, a Rafayel, or a Sylus (maybe Zayne since Caleb mentions him).

There. It feels good to get this out. I will end this by saying, sure, Caleb qualifies as a dark romance, maybe a mild yandere, but definitely, nothing along the lines of Zade because I genuinely don't think he'd want to hurt MC by doing something that could hurt her or violate her consent.

What Are Helluva Boss' Themes?

This is something I've thought about for a while, especially recently when Viv said that Season 3 will focus on a theme of "family" (clearly relating to Stolas' relationship with Octavia).

After doing some research, apperently at a panel one of the writers said that the series is meant to be about "relationships", either romantic, platonic, professional, etc. You can see that since a lot of the episodes do focus on inter-personal drama between characters.

Now, here's the next question...how well does helluva execute that theme?

Let's take a look at a lot of the relationships in the series, shall we? (Green will be goood, yellow will be meh/okay, and red will be bad)

Blitzo and Moxxie: This one is handled fairly well. Truth Seekers gives both characters fairly solid growth where they learn to start being better friends to each other.

Moxxie and Millie: It's not that developed but it's cute as a romantic relationship.

Blitzo and Loona: This is where things take a turn for the worst sadly. Blitzo and Loona's dynamic was initially endearing in the first season, as it was a loving but overprotective father with a edgy daughter that does still show some care for her father. Unfortunetly, the dynamic suffered in Season 2 due to Loona's character assasination ruining her past development, as I've talked about before, and, so far, Loona hasn't gotten anything in later episodes that have brought back her past characterization so this remains a massive issue.

Millie and Blitzo: Gets good development in GhostFuckers showing how Millie met Blitz and helps give Millie actual character depth for once.

Blitz and Stolas: I don't think I need to explain why I hate this one anymore.

Fizz and Blitz: The relationship is significantly underdeveloped and the resolution to their truama is extremely underwhelming and rushed.

Verosika and Blitz: Verosika gets a good moment showing how she felt when Blitz betrayed her trust but that's it. Aside from that, it suffers from the same issues of underdevelopment that Fizz and Blitz' relationship does.

Octavia and Stolas: Relationship was previously very compelling in Loo Loo Land where the series actually knew that Stolas was a terrible father and didn't try to pretend otherwise. Sadly Seeing Stars came into the mix and the show tried to frame Stolas as a good father to Octavia (which, he is not). Sinsmas does thankfully reverse this framming but we'll have to see if they'll commit to it in Season 3.

Stolas and Stella: This one suffers from Stella being made into nothing but a one-dimensional abusive bitch just to make Stolas look more sympathetic. It's part of the show's trend of demonizing characters that call out Stolas' actions.

Blitzo and Barbie: We know literaly nothing about this one but so far it's fine.

this was asked a long time ago but i think i finally found the words to write it. (i don't im just bored, sorry!)

so how does one fully love themselves?

getting to that point of my life took time. it took a lot of time. like around 1-2 years of time, and im still not 100% there- i still get hurt sometimes, i'm still emotional and sensitive. but the thing is, that over these 1-2 years i've learnt so much that whenever i'm feeling sad or hurt, i'm able to support myself. i am the first person who shows up for me and does my very best to console and help me. i help myself turn that pain into something even better. i walk myself through what happened and whether i may be overreacting or not. i am the one who is now always always always there for myself.

and i think once i realised this, i genuinely was like "woah." no matter what happens in my life, i will ALWAYS have myself and that thought just soothes me. it relaxes and calms me down. i am no longer scared because there is no reason to be. i know that i cannot control other people, other people will always do what they want to do. they can hurt you, make you happy, hurt you again, even unintentionally. i cannot control their actions, but i can control myself. i can control how i choose to view it and react to it. so every time i get hurt i walk myself through the steps of seeing it a different way.

another thing i did when i was insecure & trying to love myself is that i did affirmations religiously. in the morning doing skincare, i would always repeat affirmations or listen to affirmations. it would be phrases like "i love myself." / "i am beautiful", etc. it's not the sole thing that transformed my love for myself, but it did help a ton with me believing it. (doing affirmations enough time can also help rewire your brain into believing what you keep repeating)

also, you need to realise that you do love yourself. a human's natural state of being is love. return to that state of being. a little baby or a child, they are full of love. they give love, they receive love, they are never ending of love. and they are the purest form of a person for they are themselves before society has told them who to be. so do you realise that you deserve love fully and beyond what you could imagine? and the one person in the whole world that can give you that unlimited love, is yourself. but you must choose to love yourself.

stop constantly returning to the state of insecurity okay? thats not you!! you are not insecure, you just think you are insecure! but in reality, there is NOTHING to be insecure about. someone else could have the exact same quality as you and love it so much! so end this cycle of negativity. choose to live a different, happier, more positive life. its all up to you. u can CHOOSE to be different!

finally, to end with, honey it will take time. just because you don't find yourself loving what you see in the mirror after 1 day, doesn't mean you never will. you don't have to keep changing yourself to love yourself. if your daughter looked like you, would you hate her? would you cringe when you look at her? of course not. treat yourself as your daughter. be gentle with yourself. be there for yourself. show up for yourself. it may take time, but please, don't give up on yourself.

Like in the Odyssey/in Epic Odysseus isn't always in control, but we always know that there's a way out, even if things are bad. He still has a direction. But him being trapped in Troy with a husband he hates and not being able to just leave because he won't risk his son like that- being trapped because of love, but not towards the man who married him- It makes me ill in the best way. What I love about the Iliad characters is how many of them parallel & contrast each other. Achilles & Hector, Hector & Odysseus, Clytemnestra & Penelope, etc.

When you think about it, Paris & Odysseus' stories both have this similarity: they chose love. However, Paris' is a subversion of the trope whereas Odysseus' (esp in EPIC) is an exploration on how far one goes for it.

Both Paris & Odysseus are a goddess' champion & don't just embody typical warrior aspects (Paris=charm & Odysseus=wit). Both were fated to endure & cause suffering. Both were willing to pay the price (friends, family, a whole city) for love. Now here's where the lines intersect & diverge.

Prior to the golden apple fiasco, Paris already had a wife & son, both of whom he chose to leave behind to become a prince. Then when the judgement happened, he decided that the consequences that come with pissing off 2 goddesses was a fair price to pay for 'love'. Except the love in question does NOT love him. Heck, his own family sees him as a nuisance or a failure. Still, he stubbornly clings onto the belief that Odysseus/Helen will eventually love him & he'll be happy because surely he'll get that much? Surely, everything will be worth it?

As we all know, Ody's main personality trait is loving his wife & son and if he was asked to judge he'd point out he's not fitted because he already has the love of the most beautiful woman: Penelope. That & well, as Athena's champion it'd be biased which is counterproductive to the whole judging thing.

On a more serious note, the 'love' Odysseus pushed through for is a love he got with his own hands, a love that he's already had for 10 years before shit hit the fan. And after everything he went through? He got that. Unlike Paris, who lost everything, including Helen & was rejected by Oenone, Penelope didn't hesitate to declare that Odysseus is her husband, she loves him, he's hers, period. Everything Ody went through was worth it.

Popular opinion on Nosferatu is killing me because Ellen is textually-- not subtextually, not an allegory for-- textually a CSA victim. She unknowingly originally called for Orlok as a lonely child-- yes, a child, she was explicitly called as such-- looking for any sort of companionship, and Orlok answered and slept with her. "At first it was sweet... yet it turned to torture." "Papa found me once laying, unclothed... I was... my body... my flesh..." After this experience, she was called sinful by her father for being preyed upon, as many CSA victims are. She considers herself unclean, as many CSA victims do. To call this an allegory for Victorian sexual repression and Orlok a manifestation of her desire ignores that she was a child when preyed on by a much older man, and that she freely shows her desire towards Thomas.

In fact, she has sex with Thomas to prove her devotion to him and spite Orlok, to prove her desires don't truly lie with him. If this was merely a tale of repression, would she do that? The contrast is not between a repression of desire and desire, it is between the desire she happily feels for her husband and the desire she reluctantly feels towards Orlok, who hurts and coerces consent from her.

And yes, there is some part of her attracted to him, but that does not negate the fact that she is a victim and she consistently shows revulsion towards Orlok as an abuser. As when Orlok says "Tonight you denied yourself, and thereby you suffer me to vanish up the lives of those you love." and she replies "Denied myself?! You revel in my torture!" The only condition that made her submit to him was the mass death and suffering inflicted on the town because of her refusal. Consent cannot exist under these circumstances, it is coerced by violence. She is forced to relive her trauma and submit to her rape, and dies because of it.

My opinion as to why this has been so widely ignored by popular interpretations of this as a dark gothic forbidden romance is because, firstly, the general pre-existing cultural attitudes towards victims. "She must have wanted it, she must have been asking for it" etc. This mindset is also present in the film, with Orlok being justified as a manifestation of her desire.

Which brings me on to my second point, that the creators do not seem fully aware of Ellen's status as a victim. Lily Rose Depp says "It's a love story with Count Orlok as much as it is her husband," framing the relationship as much more mutual then it is. She emphasizes the mutual yearning, but doesn't seem aware that you can both be attracted to someone and victimized by them at the same time, as she goes on to say "There is a yearning going from, y'know, really between the two of them, rather than just this woman who's kind of, like, chased down by this scary demon that she hates." It's honestly very bizarre to hear the lead actress say this given Ellen is quite literally chased down from Romania to Germany and forced to sleep with him under the threat of death for the entire town, after he's already killed her best friend as punishment for refusing him. To brush all that under the rug and focus on the desire launders the relationship as much more equal than it is.

And thirdly I think there is compulsory sexuality pervading the discourse, as a refusal of sex with someone who she's attracted to is seen as inherently repression rather than being allowed to exist as a justified choice. The context of Orlok's abuse is stripped away, the context that she doesn't want to be with someone who hurt her and those she loves, even if she's attracted to him, is discarded. A part of her enjoyed it, right? And that's all that matters.

What do you think of Frida aka big mama assistant? I know we only saw in a few episodes or so and saw reveal her face but still thoughts?

Honestly, there’s really not much to think about regarding her as a character cause we know NOTHING about her as a character. She appears a total of 2(?) times in the show with no speaking lines. All we get from her character is that she is mysterious, is loyal to Big Mama, and is a skilled fighter (I can’t remember if we’ve ever seen her fight, but she probably is).

We don’t know her personality, her fears/weaknesses, her likes/dislikes, her hobbies, her history/relationship with Big Mama (whether it’s a loyal servant and her boss type relationship or if BM is a parental figure towards her), how she feels about Splinter and the Turtles (does she know they are her family or is unaware? If she does know, how does she feel about that? Does she feel resentment towards them, indifference, or something else?), etc.

The sad thing is, most fans will only ever know her as Big Mama’s Assistant, being completely unaware of the rottmnt comic issue or checked out the producers old Twitter posts that reveals her true identity.

As cool as a design and concept Frida aka Big Mama’s Assistant is, and ignoring all headcanons fans have of her, she’s sadly a nothing character. And I hate that she is a nothing character. I don’t want people to think I hate her, I love her in concept, but as a character she sadly has little to no character at all for me to love.

Yeah, they'd be in a good place by then but he wouldn't be miraculously changed either. Would be interesting to play up that and the situations that could arise etc.

Not to mention, leading into second anon's note here, once they're older and [George is finally] more mature and maybe they have a kid or two (or more??) (because God literally says 'be fruitful and multiply' and George will be damned if he doesn't listen to God), the church ends up being passed into their capable hands. And they'd still be that 'perfect angels on the surface but lil devils behind closed doors' couple well into this era. But perhaps these later, later moments give George's character the opportunity to do a full 180 from where he started. Perhaps he's witness to one of the altar boys being a little manipulative creep to one of the girls and he sees his old self in that young man (and now with a whole new perspective now that he has daughter/s) and has the chance to put a stop to it.

I’ve talked this before but I want to bring it up again.

Do I think there’s lack in Lucanis’ storytelling?

Yes, but I don’t mean romantic ones. There’s already enough dialogues and scenes to convince me his romance is complete and well written.

What I think there’s really lack of is the background. If you didn’t read The Wigmaker Job and The Wake, there would be many things you may misunderstand.

Caterina is a good First Talon but not a traditional kind grandmother. Did she love her grandsons? She did and might thought so, Lucanis convinced himself so, but that’s not what they really are, their relationship contains so many layers more than family.

Illario is not a loser who simply jealous of his cousin, he does love him, care him, support him and yeah, hate him in a complicated way. Lucanis knew this, Teia and Viago knew this.

Our dear Crows are complex, and this is why I thought there’s lack in background information.

If you don’t know the truth that Lucanis didn’t want to be the First Talon, how could you understand his face when Caterina announced he became it.

If you don’t know the dialogue of Lucanis and Illario discussed about the First Talon and Illario’s reaction of Lucanis’ “death”, how could you touched by his tear.

I still don’t understand why they didn’t mention those in game even codex. (if I missed pls tell me, I didn’t have codex collection completed)

I’m not a supporter of “if you want to understand you have to read this this and this”, I believe a good game (also movie or novel and etc) should stand on its own, shouldn’t require any additional reading.

Those missing part made me feel sad bc I knew many ppl thought Illario is an idiot, Caterina is a kind old lady and Antivan Crows is a big warm family. THIS is not players’ fault.

But I still hope you can read The Wigmaker Job, I just love these two Dellamorte, and their conversations are so beautiful.🥲
