no i genuinely think james wilson is insane and i will prove it right now. be amazed at my deductive reasoning.

in season two when wilson is temporarily staying with house as he looks for a new apartment, house ends up deleting a message from a realtor involving information regarding an available apartment wilson was interested in. we're led to believe that this is because house has realized that wilson staying with him means a cleaner environment and real food to eat, and he doesn't want to lose those perks.

but tbqfh i am almost positive that wilson did that on purpose. this man has his OWN phone, so why would he give out house's number for information that only pertains to him? he was 100% trying to gauge house's tolerance of him living there.

i mean, even in episode one it's explicitly stated that house shows affection through actions, rather than words. based on his actions, wilson knows that house cares about him, and also house likes to feel as though he is mischievous and one step ahead of everyone else at all times.

if house, for some reason (say, idk, delicious meals), changed his mind about wanting wilson to move out, would he really swallow his pride and ask wilson to stay? no he fucking would not. he could never admit that he actually is obsessed with wilson's cooking, because that is essentially saying that he's become dependent on something that someone who is NOT himself can provide.

so, instead of having a conversation like a sane person, wilson gave out house's number for information regarding his moving. This way, if house really wanted him to move out, he could shove the message in wilson's face. But, if not, he could start scheming like a cartoon villain for a devious little way to make sure wilson didn't have the opportunity. which is what happened.

"Oh, calm your tits, it's just me," LYLA's voice rings out, nonplussed in the face of Miguel's more-caffeine-and-sleep-deprivation-than-usual induced snappishness.

Despite the lightheartedness of her words, she sounds tired. How an AI can be tired is beyond Miguel, and he's the man who programmed her. But whatever. The massive project they've been poring over the last few weeks has taken a clear toll.

Not like Miguel could be calm at this state-- couple days sleep-deprived with the eye bags and pallor to show for it, eating irregularly (worse than usual), hair an unstyled wreck, his hands and arms weary and shaking. The picture of a man who'd clearly holed himself up in his office and done nothing but work himself to shit.

But as far as he cares, he has bigger problems than sleep and food. He’s been obsessed with this little passion project for weeks. And if it works... it'll be worth it. It'll all be worth it.

"I just wired more of your calls to Jessica like you asked me to," the AI continues, "Nothing important came up."

“Thanks.” His voice is hoarse, his hands twitch, and his eyes are bloodshot from staring at screens almost nonstop. But he refuses to stop. He'll be damned if he gives up now.

Miguel sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose, and tries to focus on the project on his screen. But it's hard. So hard. His mind feels sluggish and slow; overheated and abused worse than his overworked computers.

“Why can't I get the rigging right? Ugh. Lyls. How many of my files have you used? I need more.”

"Hush. I'm trying to find better footage of her. Sweet Jesus, I forgot how many videos you've taken of her," she trails off, scouring the clogged folders. It's like ever since Miguel inserted himself into another life, he'd been determined to catalogue every single last moment out of some desperate hope that if he'd just catalogued it all, it'd be enough proof to convince whatever powers that be he belonged.

"If this isn't a thousand percent perfect, you'll lose your shit, and I am not letting it be my fault."

At her words, Miguel’s gaze goes dark, and his jaw clenches.

He can already feel the familiar tightness in his chest; the guilt and anger towards himself rising up, as if he’s been slapped.

But he shoves it down, down, down, until the sting abates. He’s too tired to have yet another guilt-trip.

After a long moment, he asks, “you don’t think this was a mistake, do you?”

Miguel looks over his shoulder at LYLA's holo, floating in mid-air surrounded by her own screens. He doesn't know what he's asking for; not really. Permission? Absolution? Salvation?

The silence that follows is unnerving.

“Your life. Your time. I didn’t enable or discourage it," she responds.

Her form disappears, but he knows she’s still on. Various holographic screens pop up, all of old footage of Gabriella that LYLA is painstakingly poring through.

The screens, the memories, the reminders of a happy life he didn't deserve attached all make his chest tight, clawing through his ribcage and squeezing at the organ beating inside, but that's not the only thing that sets him on edge.

It’s the fact that LYLA isn’t discouraging this that’s so concerning. The idea that she’s just... letting him do this, with no real opinion.

His jaw clenches and he looks back at his own screen, resuming typing. If his arms tremble, he ignores that along with everything else.

“You usually tell me if you think I’m insane.” He can’t help but tack it on, his voice bitter and accusing. She certainly did when he first shat out the idea of inserting himself, and look where him bulldozing ahead anyways got him.

“Oh, you are,” she says, her voice coming from all around this time; the way it always does when she’s ‘gone into’ the main computer. “But I think we all knew that.”

Need to know what your Wesker from the gaming HCs thinks of The Institute from the Fallout series. It's a caricature, so sterile and advanced compared to the wasteland it surrounds that it's an intentional narrative turn, dripping with allegory and metaphors to the dangers of assuming the role of creation.

I'm so deeply unwell trying to figure out if he'd get ideas, or cringe, OR BOTH, or be uncomfortable, or be too comfortable.

I am so so so curious what he thinks of Big MT - their situation, how they were all brilliant minds akin to his own with stunningly similar teachings that were destroyed by one man to prevent them from enacting bloody ruin - and the resulting insane Zero, Eight, Klein, Dala, Morbius and Borous. How they behave, how they echo out their original selves incomprehensibly, stuck in obsessions they can't shake any more than they can regenerate their brains' neutered nerve endings.

I can think of so many games that echo out the 'hey science, Do Not build the torment nexus, please' thing oh nooooo lol

In my opinion, his reaction would differ varying on what part your Wesker is from, mainly either pre RE5, or post RE5.

Pre RE5 Wesker would find it laughable that these game developers were actually trying to say something about scientific discovery, something that has been said a million times before.

He'd look at Big MT and view it as a failure, but one with so much promise. Including all the Think Tank members.

They had made so many incredible discoveries and inventions; Saturnite, the retrieval harnesses, cloaking tech and cyber dogs.

But their demise only showed their lack of ambition in Albert's eyes. They didn't go far enough. And they weren't aware of the traitor in their midst before it was too late, and they had all been turned into shadows of themselves.

Albert Victim Blaming Wesker.

In his eyes, they deserved it, because they were weak. And Albert? He is simply different™.

Post RE5 though is a whole different story.

Albert will empathise with the scientists, yet he will quietly admire Mobius' determination to stop the others before they can cause further damage to the Mojave.

After all, Wesker has now been humbled, irrevocably. He sees that even if he did succeed in his mission of spreading Urobouros, he could have damaged the world beyond repair, being what his so called 'godhood' could fix.

And he could have hurt you.

Secretly, Albert wishes he was like Mobius; wishes he had been able to see the reality in his complex fueled delusion, and stopped himself before he lost such a great part of himself that he felt empty inside.

Miraculously, Albert has you to help heal him, but he can't help but wonder what would have happened if you weren't there.

Would he go entirely mad, like the scientists of Big MT? He can only speculate.

But he knows that despite losing so much, he's gained a lot more than what he had.

Albert Whumpsker. He'll be okay.

The main antagonist in the first 2 and fucked off to hang out with the wolves in the 3rd. So I'm glad we're getting some of that here!

And since we ALSO got an episode dedicated to just the wolves, I hope we get one for the zombie trio in the future, too. We've gotten more of the 3 of them hanging out than we have of the main 3 cheerleaders, but it'd still be cool to get an episode on them :)

Unfortunately I don't think there's gonna be an alien trio episode... unless they decide to bring A-li and A-lan in for one episode and then send them back to the void with the 'aceys?

hello back to losing my mind at the actual show once again!!! actually, comedy tragedy makes me go insane at all times now because of the element of the puppeteering!!

it way stronger visually or at least more distinct in the 2009 version, i am just... obsessed with the acting choices here, the way he cannot control himself and they control all of his movments?? its soo nerativly fasinating!!

he is like, running around, being told what to do, which is an extenion of this stage in his life he was littiraly forced into. as a servent, he must do what his sultan asks, he must only do what others tell him

he must only move at other's call, and here its represented by the clowns he sees them as, as well as the clown he made himself into by going so low, littiraly being flung to the floor by the crushing rule of the "better then him", and the crushing realization that that is where he feels like he should be (onew of many examples)

anyway i just think its neat

Ninjago Dragons Rising Season 2 - Is It Good Or Nah?

So, I'm late to the party, aren't I?

Well I've had so much work that I think I'm having an existential crisis. So I had to wait till I had a free day to watch this season because I wanted to watch it with my GF.

We got to Episode 6, and then what did my boss do?

Slap me in the face with long work hours several days of the week.

I feel like I'm in a spiral of work after work after work with no purpose to life besides failure cause I can't trust myself to be capable at anything-

ANYWAY. We finished it now.

You know what the insane part about the season is? That it got the show trending on Tumblr.

That's an INSANE level of hype right there.

So I seriously had to ask myself "What the actual f**k happened in the show that caused THIS much hype?!"

So... here are my thoughts on the season.

SPOILER WARNING

Okay, so this may be a factor of my judgement, but due to my schedule, I was forced to watch only 6 Episodes one day, and then the last 4 Episodes today. Keep that in mind.

When it came to the first half of the season, was it good?

Yes. Obviously.

Was it living up to the insane level of hype?

Uh... not really for me??

Now, don't take that as a negative. This season is still REALLY good.

After the first season took awhile to get started as it needed to set up its characters and this new world, it makes sense for this season to throw the punches immediately.

The season gets started with its main plot right away with Ras immediately putting his plan into action, and by Episode 2, it's very clear the threat level he opposes and it's believable that we should be intimidated by what he wants.

Even though in Episode 2's fight, while AMAZINGLY choreographed, I was just screaming at the screen "HIT THE PERSON HOLDING THE GONG."

Like seriously, more than one of the characters in this fight can use projectiles with their powers AND they have a blaster in the Bounty, and the show never says that Ras has some sort of armor defense preventing him from getting blasted. He's literally standing out in the open. And the gong is clearly what's giving Cinder power. So HIT THE PERSON WITH THE GONG.

GOSH.

Anyway, that's not important. What's important is that this season's fight choreo is genuinely AMAZING. I am obsessed with the way the camera moves with the characters in these fights you have no idea. I was genuinely blown away by the last episode's fight in particular. But more on the ending later.

What also shocked me was how BRUTAL some of the stuff that happens here is, which caught me off guard.

I mean, Episode 2 has Euphrasia getting ambushed and crashed off the Cloud Kingdom with clear injuries, and Wyldfyre getting her leg SHATTERED. Like, WHAT?! HOW OFTEN DOES THAT HAPPEN?!! (Even though the latter's healing was unrealistic. Like, it would realistically take months for an injury like that to heal. Not a critique, just saying.)

Ras body slams Jordanna at one point. He puts Arin in a CHOKEHOLD. And also beats him up so brutally... like OMG this guy does not mess around.

The Fear Cave Trial also REALLY got me tripping. Not only was it such a visually appealing moment, but it also, as the same suggests, showed several character psyches that were insane.

Except Kai for some reason. That's gonna drive me NUTS until I get an answer. WHAT DID HE SEE-?!

Then we get to the dragon mentors, and...

Yeah the season kinda loses me in the middle.

Don't get me wrong, I love the character bits here as much as anyone. But with how dyer they made the threat of Ras before, Ras and his forces take a backseat in the middle portion of the season and we're mostly just sitting at these training grounds talking. And for four episodes of it? It's a little grating, even if it is important.

The middle is mostly where most of my issues with the season stand. And here's where I get all my negatives out of the way:

Like I said, because this season is so long, there's an awkward pause in the conflict on the dragons plotline to learn this Rising Dragon Technique. Which I wouldn't mind if it wasn't FOUR EPISODES of it.

With the exception of the attack at the Land of Lost Things ONCE, Ras's army doesn't go after the ninja at all. I can kinda get the dragons group since they didn't have Bonzle, but he has to know that they ARE a threat, right? They're obviously trying to figure out how to stop you.

And even with the group that has Bonzle, what they NEED, the forces that go after that group is the Administration and the one off magician man villain, the former really didn't need to be in this season even if it was for a compelling Jay cameo, and the latter has overstayed his welcome at this point and I just rolled my eyes when he showed up on screen.

I'm all for Cole being a badass as much as the next guy, but WHY this magician man, who at this point, is so disconnected with the main antagonistic forces that he serves no purpose?

Why not, I don't know, use this screen time instead to explain what in the world happened with Cole when he left?

Seriously, the first season had this huge cliffhanger with Cole's character and him going after Wu's ghost. I wonder what's gonna happen to him and what he's gonna find out-

Oh. He's just back.

That to me is a huge disappointment. What was the point of him leaving the Lost Family in the first place if this journey was basically nothing? He doesn't even talk about it! COME ON NOW.

Also I think Zane should get slay pass on the Administration guy that called him equipment. What do y'all think?

I don't like Egot. Or whatever his name was. He's very condescending and cryptic and talks down to his only hope of the world being saved. But I think I'm supposed to dislike him for it, and there's gonna be more of his characterization revealed later, so don't take this one as a critique. The female one is great though.

The sorceress lady was... a choice in the narrative. My one critique for the ending was the potion shenanigans. Not because they were bad, but because they just felt so out of place among everything else. Like, "Oh, this finale is too dark and intense! We need to occasionally cut to wacky shenanigans with this sorceress's magic to prevent kids from feeling too much dread!"

I don't know, for me, I would've placed this stuff with the Administration instead, and instead have the group fight Jordanna, lose, and have her get away and flow that to Arin getting to her. Especially since the Administration posed such little threat to them and they even say such.

(I also have a theory that this sorceress is Wyldfyre's birth mom. I have no evidence to back this up besides "They both have red hair and similar facial structure")

With Cloud Kingdom getting taken over and Euphrasia captured, I thought she would have more of a role to play in this since this is, you know, her HOME and she's their guardian.

But nope. She does next to nothing up until the very end and plays prisoner and waits for the ninja to save her.

For gosh sake girl, you're the master of wind. FLY.

And finally, my last critique, Cinder.

Yeah I'm sorry, I'm not buying this character so far. Not that I don't think he'll have anything to do in the second part, but for how threatening he was in Episode 2, that threat level kinda vanishes in the middle and only comes back at the end. He does next to nothing and we learn nothing about him other than "He likes power". Jordanna is probably more unlikeable, but at least she has conflict going on with Ras and her magic, and she still serves more of a role in the plan besides being a foot soldier.

And... yep. That's all my critiques for this season. Which all seem pretty minor.

You know what this season is real good at? Characters.

As though that wasn't obvious already.

I did NOT expect Bonzle to play any major role at all, I thought she was just gonna be the dry and cynical side character. But no. She has a history. She has a life. She has emotions. All of which REALLY shine through at the end when you hear her voice have more range in it. The VA killed it. I ended up feeling so bad for her.

Especially considering what happens to her.

They're also not even hiding it anymore with Geo x Cole. They're just NOT. I love them and I hope we see more of their relationship in the future.

I genuinely don't understand the critique of "Geo is so selfish referring to him as Cole's family when it's obvious Cole has other people in his life."

Well no shit, you ever heard of a character flaw?

But it's also a completely understandable flaw. You guys aren't forgetting the part where Geo was abandoned for being a mixed race, right? Of course he's gonna cling to someone as compassionate and encouraging as Cole.

The Jay cameo was nice. I expect him to play no role in this season, but it's really compelling what they showed and I was satisfied with it.

Lloyd's conflict was handled very well in my opinion.

What's it called when it's PTSD, but it's about future events rather than past events? Foresight Traumatic Stress Disorder? FTSD? Yeah let's go with that.

For a kids show that glosses over trauma, (That's not a Ninjago problem, that's a kids show problem), it was really refreshing for them to not do that for once. It's actually explored and talked about and Lloyd is given advice on how to cope with it, and he freezes up in panic attacks when these visions happen and-THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR NOT IGNORING HOW HARD SOMETHING LIKE THIS IS.

Seriously, as someone who is going through stuff like this, minus the magic element, it spoke to me a lot. It really shows that this show grew up with me, and I both love and hate that.

I do think this sort of arc is going to hit hard for adults much more than kids.

Are kids constantly terrified of the future and getting paralyzed with these fears and finding it difficult to cope with the traumas that is time and human life?

No?

Kai is also a standout in this, especially towards the end. This is by far the best Kai has been in a long time in terms of quality. I love how one of his most significant flaws gets addressed here, that being his overreliance on himself and his own abilities over the others, who he feels responsible to protect.

And the way he grasps with that and learns to let loose like he did as a child back in the old days through what he loves the most, that being his family. And the flashbacks with him and his sister. And the whole sequence of him learning Rising Dragon - AUGH ITS SO GOOD.

How poetic is it that the character most devoted to family since childhood is only cocky and angry because of his own desire to be the one with power to keep them safe, gets power by letting that go, being a kid again, and joining the same roots as his own family?

AND THEN HE GIVES UP HIS LIFE FOR THEM-

And finally, Arin.

Oh you poor sweet, sweet child.

First of all, yes, I am completely subscribed to the theory that the show is building up Arin turning on the ninja and becoming a villain. It's all there. It all fits. The amount of times they say how sweet he is as though that's gonna get lost. The dragons, the creators of the world, the gods basically, telling him he's not good enough. Ras confronting him. Sora's stunt even after she's been the most encouraging of him, like the BETRAYAL there. It's all there. And I will be posting my theory scenario on this don't you worry.

BUT, I don't think that's the route they're gonna go. Kids show and all of that. They wouldn't do that to one of their main characters. Unless you're Star Wars. At most I think Arin will be tempted by Ras's master's power in an episode and even do it, but then with the power of love and friendship, it'll get fixed.

So instead I'd rather say that Arin, by far, has the BEST power crisis arc of the entire show so far.

I LOVE that he doesn't get powers. That's something the original show would've done. I LOVE that he doesn't figure anything out in the end and his inner doubts get proven correct. That's something the original show would not have the guts to do.

I liked Arin in the first season, but he didn't interest me too much. Mostly because Sora had the lion share of focus in the first season. Here though? He might just take the crown for THE most relatable character. And I both love and hate it so much.

Like, seeing everyone else succeed in mastery while you can't even figure out your own thing. You get told you have a natural talent and a lot of potential and that you're good at a lot of things, only for that to be put to the test in the real world and you end up letting everyone down. Even when your loved ones encourage you that you are good enough and you're special in your own way, you can't get those voices out of your head and you mess up again and again and again to try and meet the world's expectations. Then those in charge tell you you're not good enough and wasted potential. Then you try everything out in the real world anyway and you FAIL, and those that doubt you and your own insecurities get proven correct as you're left a broken mess of a young child who doesn't know what the hell they're doing-

I'M IN THIS SHOW AND I DON'T LIKE IT.

I probably love Sora more as a character, but I will admit I grasp towards Arin more right now. Sora's a great trans allegory in a world that hates trans people. But I'm not trans so I relate to it a bit less. Arin's a great autistic allegory in a world that doesn't know how to help autistic people. And I am autistic so I relate to it more. That's just a me situation.

I am so invested in where Arin's story goes from here. Evil or not.

So yeah, the season was good, but didn't completely live up to the insane hype, which, to be fair, is a high bar.

UNTIL THE LAST FOUR EPISODES.

And then all of a sudden, I AM SHOCKED AND SHAKEN TO MY CORE.

These last four episodes are an absolute emotional roller coaster that left me shaking and screaming the whole time.

I actually SCREAMED at multiple occasions.

I actually screamed so many times watching this that I am now HOARSE.

THAT'S how hard it hit me.

The story goes from 0 to 100 the moment the Blood Moon shows up. Which was what the whole season was building up to. And it did NOT disappoint.

The race to try and protect Bonzle. The intense visions and paralysis Lloyd suffers from. Ras and the army coming back to the plot to be absolute powerhouses. The last episode of DREAD the entire time to desperately try to stop this ritual.

HUMAN SACRIFICES?! AM I WATCHING A KIDS SHOW RIGHT NOW?!?!

I was begging for Arin to succeed at getting Bonzle to safety, even though I knew he stood no chance against Ras. "Come on Arin! You got this!! YOU GOT THIS, SWEETIE!!"

And then Ras just goes to TOWN on the poor boy and taunts his utter failure, which HURTS SO BAD MAN.

The entire fight with the army, Cinder, and Ras. The destruction of the mechs which knocks them unconscious for a bit. Kai figuring out Rising Dragon again when his family gets put in danger. The way Nya avenges her brother afterwards.

When Bonzle was getting morphed back into spell form, BEGGING, I was begging too.

But they still do it!

And KAI?!?!

I couldn't even process what happened other than me screaming. From the moment Ras alluded to sacrificing Kai against his consent, I was screaming "NO. DON'T DO IT."

AND THEN THEY SACRIFICE HIM.

LIKE HOLY GOSH THIS FINALE DID NOT MESS AROUND.

I predicted a while back, in the first season actually, that Kai was gonna get sacrificed at some point. Who's laughing now? I DID NOT WANT TO BE RIGHT.

Like, usually in Ninjago the character would be willing to sacrifice themselves for the others. But here? This is without Kai's consent at all. Ras might as well have killed him right here.

It definitely felt that way with the way the others react and BEG for his safety. The way Nya avenges him.

And Kai giving up his shot at escape for the sake of his family? BRO. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

It hurts even more when you realize that when the Merge happened, Lloyd was ALONE thinking only he survived. He only gained hope again because of his reunion with Kai. His beloved surrogate brother!

AND NOW HE'S GONE.

NYA AND LLOYD LOST THEIR BROTHER.

WYLDFYRE LOST HER SURROGATE FATHER.

THEY THINK HE'S BASICALLY DEAD.

BRO. THAT'S SOUL CRUSHING.

And then Sora?! Why you gotta betray Arin like that?!

The most encouraging friend towards Arin, the person who held onto hope and praises for him the most, betrays that hope and doesn't trust him enough to get the winning blow himself. Then LIES about it.

GIRL. WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!

That's going to be SO compelling once that gets outed. Like, morally, that was messed up and she was definitely in the wrong, BUT it led to the best possible outcome for them at the moment. They WON because she did NOT believe in Arin's abilities. Which only proves that the doubts about Arin's said abilities are correct.

And I have a gut feeling she's gonna learn Spinjitsu on top of that. And once that happens... double ouch.

Again, Evil Arin Theory.

I really hate to say it, but this reminds way too much of Arcane. If you know what I'm talking about.

I am totally imagining a situation similar to that in my head, that being a rescue mission for Kai, they decide to leave Arin out of it because of the lack of faith in him, he tags along anyway and he ruins their plan and Kai stays trapped there, Lloyd and Sora lash out on him for it, and before they can apologize they get thrusted back by something and Ras and Ras's master find Arin and take him in-

Again, I'll make a post about that.

The finale was by far the best part of this season. It has been a long time since Ninjago has made me HOARSE from being too invested.

That has not happened to me since Sons of Garmadon.

Because, yeah, I actually have NO IDEA where any of this is headed. How are they gonna save Kai and Bonzle? Why did some of Lloyd's visions not come true? What in the world is going on with Ras? Will the Administration help with that? Will the source dragons help with that?

What I probably do know is that Part 2 of this season is going to turn this into the best Ninjago Product since Tournament of Elements. Maybe even top it depending on my rewatches if my problems are still problems.

So... yeah. Good or Nah? Good. Obviously.

The hype is a little overblown to me, but it still deserves the hype.

The On1y One Ep 4 Thoughts

It has been one million years (2 days) since I have been able to watch this show. And now I have made it. I can now binge this show and I am sooo excited. But once I catch up, I WILL cry. Anyway. Under the cut:

I honestly think that one of my favorite things that I think is gonna happen in this show is Wang starting to at least trust and like Jiang Tian’s mom. Not as a replacement mom, but as an adult who cares about his well-being and understands him and his situation. I love how little pressure she puts on him. She always cooks for him and is never mad when he just leaves. She didn’t even get angry at his outburst about her not being his mom in the last episode so I genuinely think that she is doing it right and I think they’ll at least get a little closer and I love to see that.

That egg is PERFECTLY cooked. What is the problem with these boys?

That egg was raw? It was just runny. No I refuse to believe raw. It was perfect…maybe this is why eggs hurt my stomach…

Poor Jiang Tian is too gay for this man. Too gay for this world. He’s just trying to survive.

Awwww they’re studying together. And you can tell Jiang Tian was impressed with Wang immediately understanding why he chose the key points he did.

I am obsessed with the way that Wang looks at Jiang Tian. OBSESSED with it.

Okay I figured out what is pissing me off the most about this school. Wang is behind because he transferred late. They expect him to attend class and understand everything but also catch up on the semester he missed. By himself. His peers had a semester of being taught by their teachers. Wang has to teach himself. If it weren’t for Jiang Tian, he would be screwed. Even though he is incredibly smart and capable, he is being offered no help from the school. All of the help he has received has been from his fellow students. His friend tells him the weird rules of the school, not the administration. Jiang Tian helps him study to catch up, not his teachers. This is actually insane. I need to have a word with SOMEBODY about why they want my poor baby boy to fail.

This show insists on making me SCREM

I have been going insane over fictional men for as long as I can remember, and I've noticed something: I have never been truly obsessed with a fictional woman. Ever. And I think I might know why. I don't know if it's the media I watch not making good female characters or what. I refuse to believe its me not liking women. Cuz that makes no sense. I have no guy friends and I have several girlfriends who I love. It's not that I don't find girls funny. I die laughing at several women on social media and also my friends. I just think it might be media not being able to make good, fun, complicated female characters. Like, all the lesbian movies I've seen end terribly, and if they don't end terribly, they are filled with terrible things. It's always so serious and depressing. Women aren't allowed to be goofy in most media, I don't think. I can't remember the last time I saw a goofy female protagonist who didn't grow out of her goofiness. Like, princess diaries is a really good example. Mia starts out as "ugly" clumsy, awkward and uncoordinated. I loved her. But once she gets her makeover and becomes more princessly that kind of goes away. And I love princess mia. I fucking love her. But they barley kept any of her physical comedy. It's just her jokes. Which are top tear don't get me wrong. She's probably my favorite female character that I've seen if I'm being honest. Haunting of hill house and bly manor also have amazing female protagonists but they don't count cuz they are also depressing! But in a very fulfilling way. God I love those shows. This also isn't me being in love with male protagonists and not female. Hardly any of the fictional men i lose my mind over i am attracted to. Just really really like them. I want to bundle them up and keep them away from the terrible realities they have created for themselves. Honestly, I think it's cuz most fictional women have the same personality. Theyr not allowed to get dirty. They can't be stupid and make dumb decisions, they can't be damaged so much that they can't function (that makes them the villain), they can't be slutty without being abused. I also don't really read that many books, and I don't plan to, so I'm mostly talking about movies and shows. I just wish that they would make female characters who are ridiculous more often.

So, further pushing for New Tales of the Gisaeng...

This is a 50 ep family drama so it has a lot of narratives but I was in it for Damo, an icy upper class scion and Saran, a working class dancer with a birth secret.

Some reasons why you should watch:

He's smitten at first sight when he sees her perform...

He has a giant half-naked portrait of himself in his room. As he should. Look at those abs!

He's set up with a rich girl but he has no interest. Instead he sends flowers to Saran with this sign and the nerd in my DIES because this is a pun on his name which is Ah Damo (aka Salvadore Adamo, a French singer whose most famous song is...you guessed it...Tombe La Neige)

He invites her to a hotel and she makes him kneel in the street for treating her like a hooker. I have a whole post about it. And then later, they have wacko convos like:

Damo: Let's try a 'clean' love. I won't touch you in any way unless you initiate it. We'll see where it will all go. Saran: How do I know you won't try to get handsy again? Damo: If I try, I'll marry you. I can sign a contract if you wish.

Spoiler - she initiates a whole bunch of touching...

Poor dude has to literally recite "Our Father" not to grab her :P

She learns to play catch because he said he always wanted to do it with daddy evilest but daddy never bothered; and he fantasizes proposing to her and then freaks because he's in too deep and dumps her. Because he's a functional person from a functional family. He says it's because of status but we all know it's because he's a coward terrified of how obsessed he is.

On top of that, poor woman learns she's adopted blah blah her whole life has been a lie. So she decides to do the one sane thing: BECOME A GISAENG!!!! That woman takes "I will show you how unsuitable and tainted I am" to new levels and I love it. Meanwhile ML who doesn't know is losing his mind not having her in his life and is all "why don't you be MY SISTER!" ahahahaha omg hi Borgia! This is FL's are you insane face.

Anyway he finds out she's a gisaeng and tries to drag her away...

When he's begging her to quit and telling her he'll start a dance troupe just for her and she tells him "don't you dare" and to use this money instead to come to gisaeng house "and I'll play with you." He tells her he can't work or do anything except to think about this and she comments he's selfish to the end, just thinking how things affect him. And he asks her if she's going to guests' rooms and she says "next week". It gets better! He asks her how will she feel with drunks' holding her hands and she says she only feels things when they hug her. And he hauls off and slaps her and she slaps him back, harder. And there is a beat while he looks at her and then he grabs her into a hug and just won't let go but she struggles free and hits him again, repeatedly. And he tells her "you said you only feel when they hug you" and she snarls at him "bring money to the gisaeng house and make an appointment."

He comes to the gisaeng house with a friend because he knows she won't see him.

He proposes marriage with the world's biggest ring and gets turned down!!!

He does the sane thing and volunteers to work as the servant in the gisaeng house to show her he is serious and gets to call her my lady, flip her shoes and wipe her mouth and give her all his money. As one does.

He gets to scrub the floor on his hands and knees and watch her serve the guests...as one does.

He makes her soup in the middle of the night and begs her to come away with him. (When she asks if it's from pity and he looks at her and says "love. It's for love. What else do you have to offer?") Also, because he's Damo and therefore generally odd, he tells her working all these menial tasks as a servant made him really get into perfect physical shape so they should get married asap so as to take advantage of that.

He finally loses it after a client insults her badly and demands she leave with him. Her reaction? Have water poured on him.

His reaction? All right lady, I am bringing out the big guns and removing my shirt.

They are FUCKED UPPPPPPP

Shortly after, we get this. Mixed signals queen! I love you! (He tells her she's so awesome if they get married, she'd be marrying down.)

Yup, we have aristo wooing a quasi-hooker. Who is all "fine, I will be your mistress but I won't marry you, and if you won't mistress me, I will take another lover." And so she does - or is about to - and he crashes it all defeated and kneeling and begging and groveling and telling her he will give in and make her his mistress just not to leave himmmm.

And she's finally "OK, fine, you win, I will make an honest man out of you!"

And then we get 20 more eps of glorious insanity and his family cutting him off etc etc. Delish.
