Lore Olympus and Why I ship Hera/Hades…

Okay so the new chapters I’ve read and I honestly hope Apollo won’t be the main villain of four. It would just be such a let down. I also have a hard time with Hera not being there while Zeus is sick but that will be a discussion I’ll have when more chapters come out. As much as I know Hades and Hera won’t be canon, I also wanted to post on why I love them so much. For me I think it’s just the shared life experiences and how much more they have in common. It’s not that I hate Persephone it’s just I don’t think she’s quite where Hades is at in life. I’m also a sucker for lovers that also seem like best friends. I just wish there were more shippers for them!I also just think the scenes of younger them were just so emotionally touching.

Phew, the holiday break is officially over! Though I did get a few days to truly relax, the last couple weeks have been incredibly busy and exhausting, filled with long drives to see family and other get-togethers for the holidays, all while testing out the next increased dose of my ADHD medication (we're up to 36mg babyyy!) And with my tattoo shop relocating at the end of the month and my seasonal position at my secondary retail job ending... yeah, 2025 is definitely off to a crazy start!

But I'm glad to be back in my element creating Rekindled! It's certainly a constant in my life that I'm happy to have because even when life gets crazy around me, I know that I still have this amazing little project to lose myself in. Thanks so much to those of you who joined in on my stream to keep me company while I blitzed through the rest of this episode <3 I'm so grateful and excited to move forward into another year with you all!

A wrap up of 2024 - and a look at 2025

I know, this post should've come earlier.

But this is the third year in a row I have gotten sick right in time for Christmas. First year it was the flu, then Covid, now it was the flu again.

And so, once again I didn't feel well for a couple days before Christmas and spent the remaining ones from Christmas to New Year trying to speedrun my recovery, because even if I didn't plan to travel anywhere, I still had small plans and didn't want them to get ruined.

In the end, I managed to recover just in time to celebrate New Year in a nice restaurant with some friends, while on January 1st I celebrated my birthday with a full day in a spa with my mother.

And yes, it was amazing. The place was extremely relaxing, filled with soft lights, sweet perfumes and a nice ambiance music. We had lunch and it was very tasty, despite not being filled with a ton of dishes. Also, we had unlimited water and a delicious herbal tea with ingredients like licorice, chamomile and fennel.

And the saunas? Oh, they were amazing! There was a bio-sauna and a steambath with a temperature around 50°C and a Finnish sauna (70° C).

Speaking of the Finnish sauna, the spa also offered a specific ritual in which the temperature slowly rises in the span of 15 minutes until it reaches 105° C.

Of course I had to try it. And it went as follows:

5 minutes: the temperature rises from 70 to 80° C. I feel sweat run down like water, it's pleasantly hot, the rose essence is pleasant and I feel great.

10 minutes: the temperature rises from 80 to 90° C. Heat presses on me, but not in a bad way: it's like hot, gentle hands. The essence is now mint and I feel even better.

15 minutes: The temperature rises from 90° C. The heat is so strong that I can feel the first layer of my skin burn. I had to leave, and so I did.

Long story short: I managed to resist for 11 minutes in total, before leaving the sauna and moving to the frigidarium. And even though the temperature inside was -2° C, I barely felt any cold for a solid minute.

However, once I was out of the frigidarium and back into the pool, my head and body were as light as a feather. Best experience ever.

And this is why yesterday I went to the spa again, this time with my brother.

We did every sauna at least two times, we did the ritual two times (the first time, I tried to resist a bit more and almost fainted from low blood sugar - so the second time, I stayed inside for 7 minutes only), we spent all the time in the swimming pool and took a nap in the relaxation rooms after lunch. And we also did a relaxing massage.

So at the end of the day, we were both very relaxed, smooth, satisfied and extremely tired. But at least, we closed the holiday season by feeling new people - and we're ready to tackle 2025 at full strength.

A look at 2024

2024 has been a busy year for this blog. I said I would've moved from being Sanders-Sides-themed only and so I did, by talking about a ton of different projects and works.

So let's take a look at each of them, shall we?

Lore Olympus: it has been very refreshing to finally take out all I had bottled up inside about this webcomic. And it has been even better, to see its end and talk about it for the last time.

Do I miss it? Absolutely not. It was stupid and its stupidity was fun to read. But there were also too many pointless things, that diluted the story too much and made me waste a ton of time.

So, I would still not recommend it to anyone. Sorry people, you will miss the cartoonish supervillains, the Avenger Assemble part and Gaia-Ex-Machina, but I can assure you, you can live without knowing them.

CCCC: oh, now we're talking! This album was amazing, the themes were super interesting and it has been wonderful to see an artist like Chonny put so much care and attention to detail to a project that was clearly extremely personal for him.

Listening and talking about CCCC has been a beautiful experience for me and I am still very grateful to the anons who made me discover this little gem. I had a lot of fun writing about it - and I'm happy others enjoyed it too!

And if you know nothing about this album, please try listening to it. It's clever, it's mature, it's definitely worth your time.

Epic the musical: this also deserves a place among all the beautiful experiences. I found out about this project by accident and I imagined it would've taken a very long time before seeing it complete. Instead, Jorge Rivera-Herrans finished it in record time. And he did it, while keeping quality, care and attention to detail to the max.

It has been fun to see every step of this project, to be jumpscared by a sudden data release for a new saga. And I'm happy to say that, despite the small imperfections, this album is still great, Epic is still a wonderful retelling and it doesn't ruin the spirit of the original work at all - on the contrary, it makes me want to re-read the Odyssey!

I've been very happy to listen to these songs and write my thoughts regarding each Saga. And I will gladly write more about Epic in the future, once we will see more of the upcoming projects.

Sanders Sides: and if we see a project wrap up beautifully, we also see a series that will never have a good ending - or an ending of sorts for that matter.

Some people still want to believe the finale will come one day and I'm glad for them: hope is a wonderful thing and if they're happy, good for them. But my hope for a satisfying conclusion for this series died long ago (hence why I wrote my own ending and moved somewhere else).

All I do now is check the only place with real updates (the criticism tag) and wait for the day Mr. Sanders decides to make a new SaSi video. And, once that day comes, I will write a post about it.

Gravity Falls: all-absorbing, all-encompassing and all-consuming, just like it was the first time and I wouldn't want it any other way. This series will forever have a special place in my heart, writing nine analysis posts was just my way to reconfirm that yes, I still love it.

Aaaand yes, I still have a fanfiction draft. It's still in my drive. But I don't feel very inspired at the moment. Maybe because I don't have enough time to do it, considering that real life is taking most of my attention at the moment.

However, I won't rule out a possible resurgence of Gravity Falls again. And not just on my blog.

TMA: I started this series with low expectations, just because I wanted to see what was the fuss about it - and have some fun in the meantime.

But then my expectations rose, my attention grew and now I'm involved, curious and with way higher expectations than before.

I still have to finish it, but for now, TMA looks like a very promising, interesting series. There is a big attention to detail and, despite the imperfections, there is a ton of love and care behind every new chapter.

So if you enjoyed my "reaction posts" in 2024, get ready because they will come back in 2025. The story is not over and I need to see how it goes.

A look into 2025

TMA posts will come back very soon: I am already checking the first chapters of season 3 and writing down my thoughts. Hopefully, they will start to come out before the end of January.

I also plan to finish TMA as a series, wrap my thoughts about it and maybe write more posts about it - like a list of my favorite MAGs? Still don't know, I'll see when I'll cross that bridge.

And yes, I want to start The Magnus Protocol too. But TMA comes first, so I want to focus on that for now.

Then... who knows? I don't have real plans for now aside TMA, just random ideas. And that's great, because I have a lot of free room: I can discover more stuff, talk about more random things and check what you will suggest.

We have a ton of time to find out more and have fun.

So LO didn't win this year's Harvey Award (Thank the gods) and I have decided that I will be posting a preview of chapter 8 anyways!

My reasoning is this; my bimonthly stomach/bowel pains may be coming back. They aren't excruciating to the point of me needing to seek help or anything - however due to me having a low pain-tolerance, I wouldn't be able to write as much until the pains go away (which could take over a week)

And given the fact that I haven't updated Lore Asgard since August 2nd and I only just finished a section of chapter 8 - the pains could push back progress to possibly even later, probably making chapter 8 release around late november/early december, and having to wait over 3 months for any type of content fucking sucks sometimes.

So I will be posting a snippet on the UnpopularLoreOlympus subreddit eventually, just give me a moment to set everything (Kinda hard to find the right paragraph-)

Important Announcement!

Captain jellyfish will no longer be updating on tumblr, but on it's own website!

Honestly, the tumblr version was a bit behind in chapters due to me keep forgetting to update it, but now they're all there lol. I wanted everyone to just be in one spot as opposed to being spread out between Webtoon, Tapas, and Tumblr. I'll go into more thoughts/reasons for leaving webtoon under the cut, but it's kind of long, so if you just want to bookmark it for later, here's the google doc link for it.

[Content Warning for mentions of racism, grooming/pedophila, and miscarriage.] As of September 20th, 2023, I, Enit, will no longer be updating my comic Captain Jellyfish on Webtoon or Tapas.  I’ve had my share of problems with the two platforms(although mainly Webtoon) for the past couple of years now, but I don’t want to just ignore them anymore.  For starters, I don���t like how Webtoon ignores most of their creators in favor of one or two series.  There are so many incredible and talented authors all over their platform, but instead they choose to only advertise Lore Olympus, a series whose numbers have been going downhill since Season 2 ended.  A series that I would argue is morally bankrupt and has been since the very beginning.  A series that they’re so protective over that they’ll copyright strike videos of small creators for “daring” to criticize their flagship series that struggles to break 100k likes per week on the new chapters.

The creator of Lore Olympus, Rachel Smythe, has a history of reacting with hostility/passive aggressiveness to any criticism of her webcomic, deleting any within her discord and the official Facebook group for LO.  She’s gone so far as to go to fan facebook groups to complain about them allowing criticism for her webcomic, and getting upset when they boot her out for her shitty behavior.  Webtoon tacitly encouraging Smythe’s behavior doesn’t end there however, as they have also allowed Snailord’s (creator of Death:Rescheduled) harassment towards someone who is likely a child (based off the demographics of people who read/use Webtoon), yet in both instances(and probably more) they have remained silent.  While I understand that they cannot control their creators, they should not be turning the other way and twiddling their thumbs while their employees shit over their company’s reputation.   Webtoon not only doesn’t care about what their paid creators say, but they don’t care about their creators’ health, both in a physical and mental sense.  They simply do not care about the time and energy needed to create a comic, they only care about the money they can make off of their creators’ hard work, with the most egregious and shameful incident involving the artist/creator Summer Light who made the Webtoon/Tapas series “Roxana: How to Protect the Heroine’s Older Brother.  She was treated incredibly poorly by the company/her producer, being denied maternity leave with the stress of the workload placed upon her resulting in her suffering a miscarriage.  

Real quick before I go onto my next point, I need to explain how these creators make money off of Webtoon.  To those who don’t know, Originals creators make money off their fastpass episodes after the “minimum threshold” of coins used to buy one of their episodes is met, with the coins used to purchase the episode before the minimum threshold going into the pocket of Webtoon.  What is this “minimum threshold” you ask?  Good question!  Nobody knows!  The people who need to know when it’s been met so they know that they’re being paid don’t know.  Originals creators have had to regularly fight just to know what their analytics are, and even then they don’t get a fucking response.  I know that as a(now former) Canvas creator that Webtoon deletes the data for your analytics/performance every month, so if it’s August 1 and you forgot to record the data from how your comic performed in June, you are plain out of luck because you’re never seeing that data ever again.  This isn’t even mentioning how Webtoon underpays their Latin American and South American creators, and how there’s vast differences in the payments per chapters for each of the Originals creators.

This leads us to today:  the recent controversy surrounding the Webtoon Original, Get Schooled, and how it should have never made it this far.  For those of you out of the loop, I highly recommend viewing this post here as the reddit post by Kendrillon summarizes/recorded just what the Hell happened with episode 125 and how webtoon/the author responded to the backlash far better than I could.  I’m not here to say how betrayed I feel as a fan of the series, I’ve never read it before and I only just learned about what the plot for the series pertained, and to be honest I don’t think that it would be my cup of tea.  What I am here for is to ask just how the editor didn’t shut this episode down when it was still in the scripting and storyboarding phase?  While I understand that most of the editors are overworked with all the comics they’re managing, I don’t see how something this huge could’ve been missed.  The editor should have said something when the N word showed up, but instead they let it slide and now they have this whole mess on their hands with Get Schooled being pulled from the platform.

While it’s good that for once Webtoon took accountability for their actions, this brings up another question: why aren’t they deleting other series on their site that also have harmful content? The Fate by AirisKiahin/YumiCH is a comic where the teacher is in a romantic/sexual relationship with his 17 year old student that he groomed.  It is labeled as romance/slice of life.  The story does not acknowledge how fucked up it is that he’s grooming his student.  At the time of writing it has over 11 million views.

Despite videos covering this comic gaining views in the millions(even if you can’t really tell at the moment due to one of the authors copyright striking them/getting them taken down(13))the story is still up.  Now in general I’m anti-censorship.  In a way I sort of have to be as a queer person, as many cries for censorship(EX: Kink, drugs, violence) quickly leads into the censorship and erasure of discussing/talking about things like LGBTQ identity, racism, criticism of government, etc.  That being said, there still needs to be some form of censorship as to avoid harm from happening(there’s a reason “Mein Kampf” generally is no longer in circulation(no I am not saying The Fate is on the same level as a book used as reasoning to push propaganda/commit genocide)), and I believe The Fate falls under this category.  The webcomic pushes the idea that it’s “cute” and “romantic” for an adult to have inappropriate relationships with a minor, which is especially concerning when you factor in that Webtoon’s main audience is comprised of 13 - 24 year olds.  This romanticization of grooming and abuse shouldn’t be shown to such a vulnerable group of people, and it’s shameful that Webtoon has yet to take down such a vile series on their platform.  

I’ll admit that I have other qualms about Webtoon(lack of customisation options, inability to view/create comments on the website, clear favoring of their Originals creators, etc), but they all seem so dumb to me in the face of all the other things they’ve done and continue to do.  In the beginning I almost didn’t want to even publish Captain Jellyfish on Webtoon because of their shady practices, but I knew that I would be missing out on the largest comic website due their monopoly over the webcomic scene.  I eventually settled on updating on both Webtoon and Tapas, but even then I felt unsatisfied.  Many of the same base, quality of life things about Webtoon carried onto Tapas, and even though I don’t hear nearly as much drama coming out of Tapas as I do Webtoon, I’ve still heard about them doing shady things in the past like trying to have the power to control when/if a series gets a physical release and “losing” track of where the money from the ink used to purchase episodes went. Webtoon and other sites fumbling with their user bases has made me paranoid that Tapas will be the next website to make a dumb change that no one likes but we’ll all be stuck with because the people running the site don’t care.

With all of this in mind I was a bit shocked when the possibility that I could host my comic on Neocities came up.  For those of you who don’t know, Neocites is a free website hosting platform that allows their users to create a website for free(as long as it’s under 1 GB), and if you needed more space, you could upgrade to a supporter for $5.00 a year in exchange for 50 GB of storage.  With Neocities I could fully customize the entire website for my comic, I could include gifs, music, author updates, truly whatever I wanted!  There was one thing stopping me initially from jumping right in to learning how to code so I could make my dream a reality: the fear of missing out.  I was afraid that when I moved websites that no one would want to read my comic anymore, or that by moving sites that I would miss out on my “big break” on Webtoon.  In a way I’m still scared of those things, but I have to move on.  I had already completed the bulk of the website, but I had sat on it for a few months before I went all in, and the longer that I sat on it, the stronger my desire to move websites grew.  I could literally have everything that I wanted, who cares if my reader count or whatever grows a bit slower than before?  I was already buried under all the other Canvas series, I might as well just move on from the bridge and step on the island already.

  I won’t be deleting the series off Webtoon and Tapas, not only for archival purposes, but I have a bunch of posts linking people there.  If you see that it’s no longer on Webtoon or Tapas, then either the sites started letting ai leech off the art there/started doing nfts, or they deleted me off the platform because they’re mad at me for writing this lmao.  I appreciate Webtoon and Tapas for helping me to grow an initial reader base, but it’s time for me to move on.  To those of you who’ve supported Captain Jellyfish so far, thank you, from the bottom of my heart.  You have no idea how much I appreciate you reading your comments and hearing what you think, and it honestly makes my day when someone says that they enjoyed reading my silly magical girl story.  If you read all of this, thank you for reading my small essay, and I hope to see you at the new website <3

I've been posting a lot less overall, this isn't intentional, just the consequences of both trying to implement healthier changes to my daily routine for the sake of my new medication, as well as coming out of a busy holiday season just to get bitch slapped by a bunch of life shit and routine changes that will take some time to fully move past / adjust to. Buuut some pretty cool shit's happened too! I'll surely be giving a more in-depth life update this week now that I have the time to do so with this episode completed.

Plans for the summer (and the winter)

Hello, everyone.

I hope the weather in your place is nice, your days are long and you are healthy and relaxed.

I am here to give you an update on all the plans I had and the ones that came out in the meantime.

TMA

The reactions will still go on, don't worry. I started season 3 and I plan to keep them going until the end. Then I will start The Magnus Protocol too, of course.

I'm in no hurry with this series: I like to keep it going slowly and enjoy it ten episodes at a time until the end. So the updates will keep going during summer, winter and maybe up to the next year. Just keep expecting them, I definitely won't drop the series. I want to know how it will end.

CCCC

This project got my attention and I want to talk more about it. In the last ask I got, I was proposing two ideas:

a very concise analysis of all the songs of Volume 1, made mostly of resumes of the obvious parts, a few considerations and me approving every time these characters show how badass they are.

a short post about how differently the embodiment of Heart and Mind are portrayed here and in Sanders Sides.

Honestly, I would love to write these posts alternating them with TMA/others, so you won't see just one topic, but some nice variety. LORE OLYMPUS

In my last post, I said I would write a new one for when the series is over.

Well, the series is over. And my post won't be kind, nor long: I already talked about all the mistakes of the series, so all that's left is me making fun of its stupid ideas and a finale that was the epitome of "how NOT to write a story".

It will be the first post to come out after this recap, so you'll have it very soon.

EPIC THE MUSICAL

I just found out that The Thunder Saga will be released on July 4th, bless Jorge Rivera-Herrans for his incredible speed and his creativity. This man makes bops as if nothing, his vision is crystal clear and I respect him for that.

I didn't listen to any snippets and didn't look for any spoiler, because I want to be surprised by the songs themselves: so, once they're out, I will definitely write a post about them in a couple days.

Once it's out and I will get it (probably from August 2nd, since that's the delivery day on my Amazon), I will become a mess and talk about it endlessly, so I apologize in advance for who I will become.

Eons ago, I said there was a manga I wanted to talk about. Well, that manga is finished. But I have to read it from the beginning, before talking about it. And right now, I don't really feel like it.

SANDERS SIDES

I am sorry to say that I do not have plans for SaSi for now - well, except for hte post in connection with CCCC. Mr. Sanders is giving us nothing, so there's nothing really new I can write.

But that doesn't mean we can't talk. On the contrary, you can still send me asks and/or tag me in some posts and we can have a nice chat about anything, from details of the series to criticism. Having nothing new doesn't mean we can't have fun our way.

WHAT ELSE?

Those are my plans for now, but who knows what else will come in a couple months? I wasn't expecting CCCC and it came, it saw and it conquered without expecting it. So... who knows? Maybe in a couple months, I will get another suggestion and my plans will change again. I'm open to possible new things to enjoy.
