I realized that Maizuru, despite being with Kabru's party for a while, still gets Holm's race wrong.
Tumblr media
At first I thought it was kind of the joke of the whole thing. Calling Marcille a frog woman, Holm a dwarf, and getting Rin's name wrong. Holm looks tired, annoyed or maybe a bit embarrassed by this mistake. He's the only one who's background is not "explosive". Marcille's and Rin's are, and his is just plain, dark, and with those lines at the bottom. Why? Maybe for comedical effect. Probably because he's been telling her he's a gnome before this. Just like Chilchuck doesn't like being called a kid and people still call him that, Holm doesn't like being called a dwarf and people keep calling that.
Tumblr media
It's not uncommon for people to mix those races, and since Shuro's party isn't the best with races (they don't even know Chil's a half-foot) they probably just think Holm is a wierd-looking dwarf. They probably hadn't seen any gnomes before. If it was Maizuru's first time seeing a gnome and calling it a dwarf, it could be understandable. But she's been with kabru's party long enough to realize that that dwarf is, actually, a gnome.
I think she doesn't believe Holm is a gnome, just like Marcille or Senshi don't believe Chil's an adult.
Tumblr media
That's the face of someone who's tired of this shit. It's like when someone tries to guess your country just by the way you look. There's maybe a bit of ignorance at first, but I think Maizuru is deliberately deciding to not believe Holm when he tells her he's a gnome for the first time. And he's so done.

I refuse to reblog any Percabeth artwork where both Percy and Annabeth have blonde hair.
If you're changing the hair color to match canon it better be both or the white boy's, not only the black girl's.

I'm glad the era of comparing any guy with mildly dark hair (sometimes they even scratched that) and a white shirt to Eric is finally over 💀
#eric#disney#the little mermaid#txt#like....mf's were comparing ANYBODY to him#most of the dudes did not even come close to resembling him 😭#at best they looked like a great value version#one of the worst ones was harry styles#and it was like other than the dimples what else do they have in common physically? 💀💀💀#the NERVE of comparing that oatmeal-looking mf to eric. one of the finest men that have ever been animated. i can't 💀💀💀#most of the guys were so mid. pick a fine ass dude#or when the k-pop fans were comparing their faves to him “he looks sm like eric 😍😍😍” bitch WHERE???#it's like a lot of these chicks focused on the “pretty boy” (again many of these dudes not even having THAT locked down) aspect and not#enough on y'know the manliness#but yeah there was a time fangirls would just compare their male faves to eric because#bro IS the quintessential hot cartoon guy. i'm aware of naveen and flynn rider#but before them it was HIM#so it made sense that girls would compare them to him#but again... the vast majority did not even come close 😭😭😭#the only ones that actually look like him to me are the ones that interestingly enough are also associated with superman/clark kent#ANOTHER black-haired blue-eyed adorable pretty boy who is also quite a stud lol#i've even seen freaking tiktokers being compared to him#one did not even look like him he just had blue eyes lmaoooo#but he ran with it because he knew that was gonna bring him attention

Do you know a Coriolanus Snow?
So, let me preface this by saying I have not read any of the Hunger Games books (it's just not my preferred genre). Instead, recently I went to see the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes movie with my roomie, who loves the books and recently read the prequel and described the whole plot to me before we went. Watching the film and listening to her description of the books I was struck by something: Suzanne Collins has done a wonderful job portraying everyday evil's perfectly pleasant face. Coriolanus has friends. He's smart, driven, charming, but also stilted and awkward. He loves his family. He feels shame about the poverty he and his family has fallen into. He is also, an utter douchebag who knows how to play both sides and seem like a good person. Sejanus believes Coriolanus is on his side the entire time. He gets frustrated with him, but still believes Coriolanus can be reached. Lucy Grey believes in Coriolanus because she sees him make efforts to help her (I understand in the book she's portrayed as more canny than the movies and less overall trusting of Coriolanus. In the films she comes off as hesitant but overall, like Sejanus, convinced that Coriolanus will be swayed.). Coriolanus is careful to always hide his intentions or frame them in a "helping you helps me" way. But, his bottom line actions are always about saving his own skin. The film is brutal. It serves as a brilliant metaphor for a lot of the racist, classist violence within the United States and the ways in which imperialism comes home to roost by feeding on vulnerable communities. Coriolanus serves as a perfect metaphor for the countless every day people who, believing that they are temporarily disadvantaged and superior, not only reject invitations to resist, they sabotage them. Coriolanus moves through the world with a deep sense of entitlement that keeps him from empathizing with others who share the same plights as him. The people from the districts are meant to live in the country backwoods, eating katniss and dancing to bluegrass. He is meant to rise in the ranks and return to the capitol. Because he is educated and they are not. Because he is from an Old Family and they are not. A life with the covey on the edge of district twelve, surrounded by beautiful greenery with the chance to catch and forage for your own food would mean not wanting for anything, but it would not have status. No one would be kissing his ass and singing his praises. Coriolanus before all the gunfights, could have found a way to move Tigris and Gram out to the district and build a life there. But it never even occurred to him. Living a quiet life with Lucy Grey would never satisfy Coriolanus because he doesn't just want to never be hungry again. He wants to have power over others. Which is why he betrays Sejanus when he could have kept his mouth shut. He did it to save his own skin. He did it to regain access to the capitol by getting Dr. Gaul's attention. Every turn Coriolanus takes is for the worst. Until he is staggering through the woods with an automatic rifle, looking all the world like a wet skin head as he bellows Lucy Grey's name into the dim. I can see why some fans were angry with this book. I think there is a desire to believe that every asshole has a reason for winding up cruel. That something drove them over the edge. But Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes breaks that concept apart, brick by brick. Coriolanus is not special, in his hunger, in his desperation, in his poverty, in his loss. He's not special in being exposed to the capitol's brutal propaganda. Everywhere around him in the story, are people resisting their fates without stepping on someone else's neck. But Coriolanus, with all his good looks and fumbling charm, will ultimately step on a throat if it helps him up. I've met a lot of Coriolanuses. Lovely snakes. How many times have you met Coriolanus? When did he take the chance to bite you instead of smile?
