I remember, back when I was in high school (40 years ago), this mysterious "new"* syndrome trending on the news.
Because most (nearly all?) of the patients going to their doctors and seeking treatment were upper-middle class white women,** the syndrome was given the derogatory nickname "Yuppie Flu," and the hypothesis was that they were all just suffering depression because of their stultifying suburban lives. The brand name antidepressant "Prozac™" was a punchline in a lot of late-night television talk show stand-up routines at the time.
*I don't really think it was new at all. I just think social systems were changing so that more people had means to seek treatment for it.
**Again, I don't think ME/CFS is particularly limited to the Young Upwardly-Mobile Professional class of white women in their 40s; I think these were just the people with the most privilege and means to seek medical care when they couldn't "get over" a flu.
In 2016, years before long COVID was a thing, the US National Institutes of Health, the largest single public funder of medical research in the world, launched a study into a long-neglected and puzzling condition: chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis, or ME/CFS. Eight years later, the results of that study are finally out. In one of the most thorough investigations to date, researchers took a deep dive into a small group of 17 people who developed ME/CFS after an infection and found distinct biological differences compared to 21 healthy controls. "Overall, what we show is that ME/CFS is unambiguously biological, with multiple organ systems affected," neurologist Avindra Nath, lead researcher of the study and clinical director of NIH's National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), said in an interview with JAMA. For decades, many doctors had dismissed ME/CFS as a psychosomatic condition that was 'all in patients' heads'. Now there is little doubt: a host of biological changes underpin ME/CFS.

Alien Implants: Investigating Claims of Implanted Devices and Their Purpose
Alien implants, a topic often relegated to the fringes of ufology, involve claims of small, technologically advanced devices allegedly inserted into individuals during alien abduction experiences. While mainstream science largely dismisses these claims, numerous individuals report finding unusual objects embedded in their bodies, often accompanied by strange sensations, unexplained medical…

Writing Apollo-as-a-young-deity is fun because sometimes it involves completely making shit up based on the loose outline of a story told through old poems, prayers and plays and other times it involves researching the totally legit and well documented ancient art of studying sheep livers to make sure your statesmen don't accidentally piss off Jupiter.
In completely unrelated news, if anyone has any recommendations for books about bird augury, that'd be wonderful.

Why are ppl scared to call it what it is and say we’re still going thru covid on top of seasonal illness. Like. That’s pretty important right. I was watching the news and they were like oh yeah we have an unprecedented number of flu cases “as well as other sicknesses” without actually saying Covid. No announcement abt vaccinations or masking or anything. Also if I hear someone joking abt “war flashbacks” for mentioning covid I fucking hate u

Obviously I'm very glad that Domi has stepped in to help protect Dante and Johann, and it's great that she's calling Dante by his name. However, I'm vaguely concerned that a member of the de Sade family directly confronting chasseurs (and particularly hateful chasseurs!) could lead to very bad things down the line.
Back at the start of the catacombs arc, Johann pointed out that relations between the church and the vampire establishment are still extremely tense, so it would be prohibitively dangerous for Orlock and his people to get involved in a conflict with them. If you take Johann at his word, it could take as little as one false step to set off the beginnings of another war. And the situation has only gotten worse since the catacombs.
Dominique isn't as politically important as Count Orlock, but she's still a member of a key family of aristocrats. If Gano and Ogier escalate the current situation to violence and Domi has to fight them, there's a chance things could spiral out of control in a big way.
There's also a chance Domi, Dante, and Johann will still be able to calm things down without a fight, of course, but if it does come to blows, I'm afraid an excuse to hurt or be hurt by a vampire aristocrat is the perfect opportunity for Gano. We know the extremists want an opportunity to go to war again, after all. I don't know if Gano shares that desire, since he's working with Ruthven on the side, but he's hateful enough that I sure wouldn't rule it out.

Americans, I'm disappointed with you. If you voted third party, I don't even want you following this blog.
2/3 of your bloody country may deserve what's coming for voting it in or doing nothing, but Palestinians and Ukrainians don't.
Waking up here feeling like we (Europeans, non us allies) have also fucked up by letting you have such a hegemony. If you want to try your own third Reich, you shouldn't be world police at the same time.
Man. The level of misogyny and racism needed for Trump to get such votes against the most competent and qualified woman to ever run... I once told someone I was impressed there wasn't more backlash against a black woman running. I just had expected it from the current US landscape. And now I guess I was right.
People chose no policy, no platform, giving head to mics, mush brained 78 yo rapist felon over her. And I'm sitting there wondering if we're all gonna die to Putin's retaliation or global warming first, all because you got to put yourselves in charge of such momentous policy decisions that affect us all.
I fucking hate it here

fauci saying “vulnerable people will fall by the wayside” and that some will die but that’s ok because we’re not going to see the “tsunami of cases” we’ve seen before is so dehumanising. so babies with no immune system, elderly people, disabled people, and people without adequate access to healthcare can all die of covid. but it’s ok guys because actually they’re just falling to the wayside and everyone else will go back to normal and be fine (sarcasm).
my death or the deaths of my family or friends wouldn’t be us “falling by the wayside”, it would be us being failed by our government, healthcare systems, and communities who have refused to take coronavirus seriously despite mounting anecdotal and scientific evidence of the harm this virus does. fact that people can accept the deaths of vulnerable groups just because they want to eat in a restaurant or don’t want to wear a mask is horrifying

most days I’m kinsey 5 dean truthing. he just. Really likes men. the majority of his significant relationships are with men. on any given day I’m closer to gay dean than Kinsey 3 or lower. but I also enjoy entertaining multitudes so i can see so many different angles and interpretations. except straight dean. there is no such thing. he does not exist.

i'm sure you know this already but:
COTL ISN’T DELETING THEIR GAME.
1) in terms profit they'd pretty much shoot themselves in the foot with that decision, and as protest it's not very effective to make unity listen.
2) if they were, there would've been a much bigger announcement than a twitter tweet.
3) they confirmed they're not in both the discord and the twitter. after the deletion tweet went viral. which...ok.
4) it's probably a scare tactic to take advantage of the unity news to get more people to buy their game.
5) it probably worked.
so many people are focused on the unity issue that i don't think it's often talked about how much of a shitty pr stunt that was by the social media manager. people are fearmongering, sure, but the initial seeds were planted by that twitter post that really should've gone through some extra foresight.
hope they enjoy their extra revenue.

like a week before my exam i started systematically (going through the topics from the beginning) revising for biology (lmy second worse subject) and then realised i was going too slow and would never fit anything in so i crammed everything in like three days before the exam and i got an 8+.
