Local TV station shared this map about a winter storm that's expected for this weekend and now I am wondering if "snow snow" is a technical meteorological term and how it differs from "heavy snow".

it feels like a complaint but idk~~ hope it's not~~~ i kind of worry me telling anybody about anything is a complaint somehow~~
but saw something on a local PBS channel that I don't understand~~
are so many people into being the omnivores we think we are; to find lampooning a swordfish being hideously barbaric, watching it die in the boat with it's blood everywhere, and then throwing it on ice to be sent to local restaurants.... they think it's absolutely barbaric~~
I forget the word they used, disgusting/disturbing or something of the sort, it was yesterday and I don't remember~~
and at the same time EATING AND ENJOYING IT ANYWAY~~
I don't understand~~ you see that, are revolted by it, yet eat it anyway?
a little light doesn't click on in your head and goes "we aren't supposed to be killing and eating animals if we are disgusted/disturbed by it?"
true omnivores would see a feast of that fish~~ or any slaughterhouse really~~~ and yet humans are so disgusted/disturbed by it that we hide them from plain sight and make the act of slaughter hidden from view~~
if people are so disturbed by seeing their food be produced; then why and how can we see it as food to begin with?
I've been vegetarian so long that I no longer see meat as a viable food source and get genuinely confused when other people actually do, despite the slaughter and bloodshed witnessed....
like how can you still eat it and not be turned off by it? there are more compassionate ways of eating that don't involve taking the sentient life of another being~~
also unrelated thing that makes me feel really old for saying it to begin with; my 24 hour news station had inexplicably been replaced with another instance of a 24 hour shopping channel, and I don't understand... it is the exact same as the one a channel over..... ???
BRING MY 24 HOUR NEWS CHANNEL BACK DARN IT~~~!! WE DON'T NEED 2 OF THE SAME EXACT SHOPPING CHANNEL ON LOCAL TV~~~ I DON'T CARE~~~ I JUST WANT MY NEWS STATION
#personal#thoughts#thinking#vent#vent post#personal vent#tv#local tv#local tv station#local tv stations#but seriously#i don't get it#how can you be disgusted/disturbed by slaughtering an animal#and still continue to eat it#killing sentient life isn't worth it to me anymore imo#is it cognitive dissonance?#I don't understand#i felt it's wrong to kill other sentient life and have been vegetarian off and on for a time#more on than off at this point as I no longer see meat as viable food#it's taking the life of another sentient being who wants to live and also extremely environmentally damaging to boot#so I stopped eating meat and contributing to that industry#the cruelty isn't worth it anymore imo#tho I'm only a vegetarian so I'm probably a hypocrite to some degree too cause dairy and eggs industries#vegetarian#vegetarianism#how can people be like this tho?

It's fascinating to me how much of the analogue horror genre is bound up in the idea of local TV channels. The idea of local TV is bizarre to me, as they've never really been a thing here in Australia. From what I've found, the only local channels are for really remote rural or Indigenous communities, definitely a far cry from the small suburban town style popularised in the genre. The closest we have here that I know of are local radio stations, but you can't really work those into a video horror series the same way you can fake TV broadcasts. Still, it might be fun to try.

As Seen on TV!
By which we mean they sometimes show up in the background of local news reports by sheer chance.

Sarah and I are thumbing through the new season for Un gars, une fille - likely known in its English adaptation as A guy and a girl, and rolled our eyes once we realized that most of the episodes tended to focus on the titular Guy and Girl - a Baby Boomer couple resettling in the city after decades spent in the suburbs - and in how they can't parse their own kids' aspirations or the changing social mores.
Two episodes in, once we realized that one of the gags would involve the Guy, of sorts, would try to make sense of how queerness works while simultaneously dealing with a phone call from his gamedev son whose only subject of discussion involves a direct lift of World of Warcraft's Corrupted Blood incident, we opted to tune out.
I mean, I understand that for writers above a certain age, creating the character of a twentysomething gamedev and making him lose his shit over a bug in a game he's merely playing, and not developing, might seem like a funny way to show how out-of-touch with reality younger generations can be - and I do get the show's surrounding thesis in that we all have our foibles - but this is hilariously low-hanging fruit.
The first four or five seasons of that show took place thirty years ago and were genuinely funny. They focused on the antics and occasionally weird shit an average couple from Montreal could go through - but the later crop of episodes feel like Archie Bunker's possessed the two leads and is making them sputter around, motioning for befuddlement and confusion whenever someone calls themselves an Enby.
The one and only gag I actually found funny involved that same gamedev character falling for an Otherkin - as in, a young woman in the same age bracket who openly identifies as an elf. IRL Otherkin, based on the single, one person I know who fits the bill, tend to pocket their ears or tails or fangs in a convenient pocket of their sense of Self when out in public and only really embrace what they identify as when in safe spaces. The idea of a girl attending a house party with new acquaintances in full-on Arwen Undomiel mode while trying to spend the entire evening out-Galadriel-ing Galadriel herself is, well, utterly absurd.
I mean, between well-meaning reactionary crap that makes all parties involved look equally silly and, say, atrocities like Adam Carolla's Mr. Birchum wherein the Conservative proxy is the only sane person onscreen; I'm picking the one where local actors have to pretend that drag queens are shocking while the drag queen character roasts the token man for, well, being a man.
It's stupid, but nobody's seriously hurt.

On the one hand, found a cool local show that is sort of a western with a cool aesthetic for the sort of antagonists that is more interesting than any billion dollar Disney show.
On the other hand, because it's local, there are next to no images for it online (in places where I know to look), so I can't show you the cool aesthetic.
The gunfights are a little funny when you notice that the kickback of the guns aren't quite what they should be, although they did have a good old-fashioned petrol tank exploding, which makes up for a lot.
Good use of costuming to tell the story, too. There's a clear split between the cattle farmers wearing modern clothes and using a variety of guns, and the cattle rustlers wearing more traditional clothes and using AK-47s and a bolt action rifle for the sharpshooter. Good way of squaring the circle on who the audience might be sympathetic too, since the cattle rustlers are, um, not South African. I'm not sure it's entirely without its issues (we've had a simmering "immigrants are stealing our jobs" thing for at least ten to fifteen years) but it's significantly better than I was expecting when I read the plot description.

leverage is so fucking funny. man manages to find the most mentally ill and neurodivergent group of thieves on the market + an even more mentally ill guy whose literal job description was trying to chase all of them, and forces them into a found family speed-run by trying to blow them all up. they lowkey stage a full fucking country wide coup and are like eh 🤷 just another wednesday. this might be a fun place to vacation tho i guess. sophie shows up to her own funeral twice. they're so good at convincing people of their shit that they make a guy's body start reacting to an illness he doesn't have because it isn't real. go completely out on a limb and basically hand this one guy a new password for his computer so they can get into it and he goes with it. parker and hardison have straight up just "fake it 'till you make it"d into the fbi without even attempting to cover their tracks beyond just These Two Guys. half their clients never asked to be their clients and don't know they're their clients, and the other half are random people who find them who fuckin knows how, meanwhile no government agency can track them down without selling their soul to sterling. they make a point to have a dramatic scene w a Big Bad Shadowy Government Guy who doesn't actually get caught or brought to justice or anything telling them he's going to hunt them all down, and in any other show this would probably earn at least a minor arc later on but he literally never shows up again. an entire season finale hinged on a cake and a bunch of clams. they accidentally made eliot a celebrity not once, not twice, but three times. parker blew up her foster parents' house when she was like. nine. and it's hardly a footnote. hardison is just casually an artistic prodigy but it's only ever brought up for the most background of background gags. eliot's biggest beef with parker and hardison for like two and a half seasons is that they won't stop making weird food with lasers and refuse to realize they can't make a decent beer to save their lives. sophie's immediate response to being shot is to call her shooter a wanker. there's a character who has literally killed a man with a mop and they had the audacity to only put her in one episode.
#leverage my beloved <3#ramble#leverage#i also feel the need to point out that. while yes sophie did show up to her own funeral twice. she also technically was the driver to bring#her own ''corpse'' to wherever interpol was sending it lmfao#re: eliot being made a celeb 3 times bc some people are confused—country singer; baseball player; hockey player#didnt count the knockout job bc i think that was p local focused? could be wrong#re: character who killed a man w a mop = mikel dayan (hitter from the two live crew job)#this post is getting people interested in leverage lets goooooooo#this post has also officially surpassed the number of people i expected to ever know or care about leverage by several thousands#bc even though logically i know it aired as an actual tv show over several years and a lot of people probably saw it#that does not compute in my head#leverage spoilers
