Please tell me why you dislike Rory so much. I am so tired of how much the fandom talks about how amazing he is and I find it incredibly refreshing to see someone else who doesn't like him.

i have major problems with the way the show frames his character. you could change nothing about his personality and everything about his backstory and i would like him a lot more.

lets start with the way he's introduced. in the eleventh hour he is shown as a kinda dorky dude who is in love with amy, although he clearly places more value on their relationship than she does. (she refuses to admit that he's her boyfriend). after the two year time skip of that episode we see their relationship move from "guy that amy is unsure about dating" to "guy that amy is actively running away from marrying" okay. so clearly his only purpose is to be Something That Amy is Running From. i don't give a fuck about him personally.

and even after we properly meet him, he's still positioned as the thing between amy and what she wants. rory is the manifestation of the "domestic life" that amy has never wanted and has always felt pressured to want. (in the same vein, the doctor is just a representation of freedom, but he has depth outside of that and rory doesn't). so what exactly am i supposed to like about this guy? the fact that he loves amy isn't a virtue, it's the whole point of his character and i'm not giving him points for existing.

and if that isn't annoying enough, the writers reward him for this. we're clearly meant to sympathize with nice guy rory who deserves amy's love because he's...there i guess. and it gets fucking insufferable when he starts coming into himself and then it's all rory making choices for amy because he thinks he knows better than her and "my wife" and pissing contests with the doctor. and he just seems like a guy who is deeply insecure about his place in amys life and in her heart (which. for good reason. lmao) and he has to compensate by stifling her into a version of herself that settles for him.

Being a batfam fan is funny because people will make a post like “here’s my headcanon-“ and it’s just something that’s directly canon to the story then post about major canon events and get everything wrong.

#this post was inspired by me remembering the experience of reading death in the family #after only knowing the fanbase version and realizing oh none of that shit happened okay #like girl you don’t understand it’s so bad #Jason wasn’t even fired as Robin #He’s not accused of murdering anyone by Bruce #He’s not trying to prove himself at all he’s just looking for his mom #The reason Bruce didn’t go after him right away is because he was tracking down a goddamn nuke the Joker stole #Then after he finds it and handles the problem he helps Jason track down moms 2 and 3 #Also Jason died in like 20 minutes?? even less??#He died in less time than it took his mother to smoke a cigarette #Bruce literally went ‘wait here I’ll be right back’ and was gone for less time than a trip to the grocery store #and then you go into the Jason Todd tag and they act like Bruce pulled the damn trigger on him #Like besties I don’t know how to tell you this he basically did everything right he possibly could have #Even him benching Jason from Robin temporarily happens so that he can get Jason into therapy about his trauma #Like the whole point is that neither of them did anything wrong bad shit just sometimes happens #That’s the tragedy. You know who they did the dirtiest in Arcane? Apart from Vander that is.

The answer is Mel. My baby girl lost her two boyfriends and I'm tired of pretending like I'm okay about it.

She gave everything to their dream.

"She wanted to use them." YES! At first! At first she thought they were a great investment. Then she came to love them with more sincerity and more care than many other relationships in the show. Sure some of the toxic things she'd learnt from her home tended to seep into the relationship, but she did everything she could to prune that away.

She loved them. She poured everything into their dream. Everything into helping Jayce get rid of Heimerdinger when he wanted to ban the research that could help Viktor, everything to help them both vote for peace and make the council decision unanimous. Everything to get back to them, after getting kidnapped! 🥺 After going through every version of hell, she immediately gravitated to where she would find them, 😭 find the only loves that had ever accepted her without necessarily demanding anything in return.

And Riot just took that away. And I'm tired of acting like I'm okay with it.

I'm tired of everyone saying Mel deserves better than Jayce and Viktor, tired of people shipping her with people she's never met (especially when the aim is just to give her someone who is not Jayce or Viktor), I'm tired of the strong independent black woman stereotype following Mel around when it's the LAST thing that she wants when she only just learnt to be soft with Jayce and open with her heart once again. I am tired of people calling her a manipulator as if her character arc ended there, as if she did not unlearn toxic love and traded it for the gentle bond she then had with her two favourite scientists.

I'm tired of people not acknowledging that she had to leave Piltover, not just because the Medarda family needed her, but also because her boys were gone. The family she had finally made for herself, the family she was willing to abandon her family name for. They're gone and I don't think Riot will ever be kind enough to give them back to her.

Everyone else, even Ekko sort of has a family to fall back to. Mel has successfully lost everyone. The fact that Lest is the closest person to Mel left says way too much about how awful this whole situation is.

And I am TIRED, I am so sick and TIRED, of people acting like she did not love Jayce and Viktor. I am so sick and tired of people acting like Jayce did not love her. It probably hurt him too to leave her behind.

The tragedy of them is that Jayce knew Mel still had the chance to refind her feet, but Viktor had only ever had Jayce, and Jayce would NEVER leave Viktor alone. And it hurts that Mel probably wished she could have gone with them, because now she has to start everything from scratch and barely anyone in the fandom acknowledges that side of her pain and I HATE IT!

I was rewatching mouthwashing, and I ended up thinking of the different reactions that Curly and Jimmy had in doing their tasks. How during the scene of Anya evaluating Jimmy and showing dread towards the idea of doing his evaluation, Curly was the one that offered to take it off her hands. He had no issue with adding more to his plate, because he knew - or well, thought, he knew that Jimmy wasn't going to "bullshit" with him since he's known him for a long time. When Anya hands Curly a note from Swansea, Curly goes to check out what the issue is and he takes care of it without a complaint, the only "complaint" he has is how this incident could have damaged the pods. Which is reasonable, those pods are their only way to be saved if anything tragic happens on the ship. However, in comparison to Jimmy being asked to do things, he's passive-aggressive about it. When Anya asks Jimmy if he could help her out with Curly's painkillers, he tells her that people should be worth their titles, specifically using her title as a nurse when she asked him for help and then when she says forget it, since he made her feel insecure, he still goes "Oh no, I'LL take care of it" as if he was doing a chore, a favor for her. Then, there's that part where he blows up at her for things that she didn't even ask him to do - more so the others asked him about it, like the code scanner, him deciding he needed to find the axe for the foam, and then, there's the medicine part (which when she does ask, and she reconsiders - going to do it herself, he takes that away from her). Jimmy complains about the tasks he has to do and he treats it like a big issue, a "woes me" that he has to do this and that - wanting the praise of the capital without actually doing any work. While Curly doesn't complain about it, in fact, he even mentions that he's aware of how well he is doing at his job as a Captain during that cockpit scene with him and Jimmy. If Jimmy only had to do a small amount of tasks to get irritated and annoyed at being captain, while Curly didn't which I feel like encapsulates their personalities. Curly understands what he's doing is a job, it's a responsibility, why would he complain at any point for doing what he's suppose too? Why would he be upset at people asking him to do tasks? While Jimmy on the other hand, isn't used to it at all and it's different to what he's had before and he's realizing that he doesn't actually like doing the work he has too. I just wanted to ramble about it even if it seemed kind of obvious xd

It’s obvious but it is a thing people miss or understate when trying to find parallels in Curly’s and Jimmy’s relationship/personalities.

Like the way people portray it as neither taking responsibility when it is almost split down the middle of Curly taking responsibilities and faults that shouldn’t be his and making himself unequipped to handle the ones that are while Jimmy refuses to handle the responsibilities he has because he wasn’t expecting the work that comes with them.

Not a lot to say but people forget that another thing the game comments on is prioritization of issues and responsibilities and how the guys fail at it in one way or another in the situation.

#this talk of responsibility is more so about me be very annoyed with people acting like Swansea was the most responsible man on that ship #when he immediately takes a break after his intern in stuck in the foam starts drinking the moment he find out the mouthwash is alcoholic #doesn’t tell anyone about the cryopod or explain himself and did nothing about Jimmy either until it was too late #like I’m sorry but he is also the last guy I’d like to hear about responsibility from cause he did just as bad as Curly post crash like he #wasn’t even nice to Anya outside the one conversation we see he was actually just as rude to her as he was Daisuke when they cracked open #the crates and dismissive before hand like I’m getting more mad at the glorification of one guy vs the woman whose doing the most 4 herself #like I get his speech and the recognition of his faults but he still had them and they still were his downfall in the end and part of the #reason Daisuke listened to Jimmy and it’s not his fault that happened but it’s the same way it’s not Curly’s fault Jimmy is like that #but I digress cause people don’t exactly like when we actually discuss the responsibilities the crew mates should’ve and shouldn’t have had #or what they actually did to help cause idk Anya likely would not feel supported by any of them after the fact if they survived like girl #only ever got attention for her problems when they were literally at the worst that’s not helping or taking responsibility like she had to #kill herself to feel some sort of relief also the irony about Curly’s concern about killing herself only #for it to get to the point she actually did because there was no safety for her they all failed her #Swansea would’ve just told her to tell the captain and he’d watch Jimmy and ultimately it would play out the same cause he’s tries to not #get to involved cause he’s old and been through enough already and she’d feel just as unheard like he was closer to Daisuke #and not once after the crash did he really try to steer him away from liking Jimmy which again he points out himself #like I love Swansea and Daisuke but they were just as complacent in Anya’s suffering and Jimmy’s behavior even if they knew less that should #not make them more viable options or it more excusable like crazy conclusions to comes to ig on my part but yall hate #the idea that maybe a major point is that Anya was alone as a woman and overlooked #mouthwashing #ask #mouthwashing game #anon #curly mouthwashing #jimmy mouthwashing

Watching House, you just have to accept that sometimes the writers will make him act gross and slightly out of character.

1; because of the times, and 2; likely because the writers have their own weird fetish about it 🙄🙄

#specifically the episodes of him interacting with a teenage girl #house has been shown that he very specifically thinks that teenagers are stupid and he’s not attracted to them #he ALWAYS opts for the older woman; around his age #even with cameron; he didn’t go for her #so WHY are there random af episodes where suddenly this teenager who is flirting with him is soooo hot and tempting #they even use ‘jailbait’ a lot 🙄🙄🤢#almost everything he does is out of a place of sarcasm or not taking anything seriously; or even as a political/social commentary #the intersex episode specifically is less him being weird and more a social commentary and explicitly pointing out how absurd & weird it is #so WHY the FUCK did they suddenly write him like *that*#like; he’s not just flattered. Being a Cahir fan from the time before the show came out is so weird cause-

That's. That's litteraly a completely different character.

#each time i see cahir on screen i go 'look how they masacred my boy'#so to get out of the way the biggest differences #he wasnt anyone special in the nilfgaard or its army #hes just some son of a noble made officer that just so happened to be unknowingly responsibe for the most important mission of the war #and he didnt know ciri that long #in books he literally just 1) grabbed ciri 2) brought her out of the burning cintra 3) helped her wash up from the soot and grime #he didnt even exchange with her a single word because out of shock he straight up forgot how and when he woke up she was gone #and then he didn't see her for next five years #the fact that he even found her at all is multiple times described as one step away from a miracle #after failing to bring ciri and insulting the emperor in anger he was straight up inprisoned for few years and was supposed to be hanged #which he wasnt only because he was the only person alive that even knew how ciri looked and they needed him to find her #and then he was sent on a basically sucide mission which was equivalent of ozai sending zuko to find and capture the avatar #everyone knew it was a death sentence either from hands of the empire or people guarding the girl #also he didnt stop the scotiael on thanned #ciri killed all of them leaving cahir as the last of them #then when she tried to kill him she irreperably damaged his hand when he tried to stop her sword and then he begged her to not kill him #when asked for one reason why he reveals that he was the one to bring her out of the burning cintra and while doing so he closes his eyes #(of which ciri doesnt have any recollection besides nightmares about a black knight with wings on his helmet on horseback screaming)#after a while of not being struck he opens his eyes and ciri is gone by then and he passes out from relief and/or the blood loss #and only by then other group of scotiael came to him #after failing once again he is literally sent back in the casket (still alive just trapped in it for convinience) to be executed #the only reason he lives on is because geralt later on accidentally finds him and then frees him #then he has lots of character building that i wont spoil anymore that is straigh up not possible with how the show went on #im just really disappointed #cahir mawr dyffryn aep ceallach #the witcher #the witcher books #the witcher netflix #also in books hes described (by geralt nonetheless) as being less than 25 years old/10 years older than ciri during 'babtism of fire'#my post

it's the end of semester so uni is terrible, but the main thing is my housemate. she's really controlling and finds flaws in everything i do (i lived with multiple people before her and it has always been fine), so it's really stressing me out because every damn week she has something to say.

#she's the type of person that wants everything her way #i thought she's like that because i live with her #but apparently she's just terrible to deal with lmao #a friend of mine does an internship at a clinic #and there's two girls that are in the same uni as my housemate #and they told him she's insane. not a single soul wants to any group work with her #she simply doesn't know how to deal with people #i'm somehow a bit more relieved knowing this #but it's draining. i don't feel at home at all #and i literally just go there to sleep because i'm out working and at uni the entire day #i was living with my friends before and it was amazing! but it was too far away from my work and uni #i moved only to get more sleep and peace #and now i can sleep but i barely have peace and i'm dealing with a stress i never had :(#replies
