I just realized some people are confused about events in the alluded to past in Mouthwashing, particularly about how long the crew has been working together.

The only person who is truly new is Daisuke and it’s why his dynamic with the crew and role in the story is very unique and somewhat distant. Curly didn’t just get Jimmy this job on the Tulpar, he got him the job with the Pony Express. He’s been his copilot for probably a couple of years but still not as long as they’ve been friends. None of them are new with the freight industry, Anya and Swansea especially have been doing this for years, together.

Jimmy is the newest on the regular crew, maybe just a few assignments, but it’s not his first time working with them. I think it’s just something important because this isn’t just one bad mistake that snowballed with giving Jimmy the job. None of them thought Jimmy would do anything, no matter how off-put by him they could’ve been, since he hadn’t done a thing since being there. Generally unpleasantness isn’t a crime and he’d be aware of that.

It was a festering thing and a sort of forced trust they had to give him that he knowingly took advantage of. He was the black sheep and still a wolf under the wool. He expected when he lashed out, that he had been there long enough for it to be looked over completely. Got too comfortable in the space he inserted into and did a lot of damage with his claws when he felt he was going to get shaken out.

lolol in all seriousness, that’s cool! Technically, Cartman *is* in therapy. He’s seeing Thomas (Panderverse), remember? And it’s strongly implied he’s on medication (Cupid Ye). Can’t say if he’s getting better or worse, but Cartman definitely has evolved. If you want to go the redemption route, it’s been shown that it takes little for Cartman to be “fixed”. He just needs discipline, a sturdy male figure in his life. He… needs to be dominated. Literally (tsst) and if not that, he needs to get out of South Park— his biggest enabler. So, he’s not too far gone. He’s a real piece of work though, and South Park’s wellbeing (in-show and out) can’t function without him being an asshole. It’s just who he is. But whoever decides to stick with him has to have a lot of determination to deal some damage control, or keep him in check. (hm, sounds familiar…)

So, there’s your condition met. Go forth and ship kyman! 🫡

I’ve slowly grown to realize that my one of my favorite relationship dynamics is: most competent person in the universe with identity-based struggles x absolute goofball who instinctively knows exactly who they are and loves them so, so much.

(This ended up being a lot longer an answer than I intended hoo boy sorry about that)

Hmmm, I’m not too big a shipper tbh! Especially since I really enjoy canon interactions backing my ships, so it’s hard for me to actively like any that don’t really have that going for them. There’s plenty that I see around that I think are cute, but that’s usually the extent of my thought process for them.

For ships I more actively have, I guess I like AprilxSunita! They’re very very cute and I think they have some huge meet cute energy in their first episode together, and their chemistry is genuinely adorable (plus them being featured means more April screentime which is ALWAYS a good thing.)

I also think AprilxCasey (and when I say Casey I mean our OG girl) is really good, as I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers, and I think they have a lot in common and just bounce off each other very well (not to mention this ship in other iterations of TMNT has a loooooot going for it.)

Keeping the chain going, I think RaphxCasey (again, OG Casey) is also one with a tonnnnn of potential. They have a lot of common characteristics, and considering Raph’s whole thing with Franken-Foot, I really think there’s a lot of room there for a relationship to develop. Plus, like AprilxCasey, Raph and Casey tend to have a close relationship throughout the iterations of TMNT and it would be great to see that more with these two, even if not romantically.

Actually going back to enemies to lovers, I unironically think there’s a ton going for DonniexKendra. I know a lot of people hate this ship, but I don’t and I actually think it could very easily work whether in a love-hate way or a slow burn way. There’s a lot to like here and honestly they’re good together! Kendra is legit Donnie’s type too haha (cute, but mean.)

Lastly, SplinterxDraxum is good…when done right. I really like when people take it and don’t undermine the very real trauma that Splinter has gone through. As I’ve stated a lot, I love me some enemies to lovers, so I can see the potential here. Plus lbr Draxum was down BAD for Lou Jitsu when he first saw him haha.

I think that’s the extent to what I actively like? Everything else usually falls into “aw cute” or “ehhh not for me thanks”. And before you ask YES leosagi is cute and I’ll read fics with it if the premise is appealing, but I’m afraid I need some canon interactions to establish base character dynamics before I actively ship it alas.😔 Super cute though, no hate to it or any of the other CanonxCharacter-they’ve-never-met ships, I genuinely think people should just have fun! And for what it’s worth I really do wish we got a Usagi and Leo interaction in Rise like we have in other iterations.:(

So yeah. Overall, I have a few ships I enjoy, but I fall much more in the “prefer to keep everyone to themselves and make the focus family and friendship” category.

was not expecting how head over heels i'd fall for marchil- i stg there's something they put in the sauce like goddamn! and i've loved seeing your posts analyzing their dynamic, really helped articulate what i was feeling. i was wondering if you had any fic recs, or any recommendations for ships with a similar vibe? i'm hungry for them...

I know right, marchil gripped me in a chokehold out of nowhere and still hasn’t let go… The sauce was designed by the demon for me to get addicted specifically. It’s been too long since I haven’t written fic for them. I’m still chipping away at my Marcille & Chil arc analysis I know I always mention it and I started the draft in January but I SWEARRR… Season 1 is ending next week :/ On the upside I’ll probably be more focused. After that analysis, which is only analyzing in depth like one aspect/half of their intertwined arc btw so who knows there might be a part 2 one day, I kept thinking it’d prob be my last marchil analysis but let’s be real, probably not. Every week I find something new to point out about them aah…… Dungeon food, ahh, dungeon food…

Fanfic rec wise, well first I have my own marchil fics, to which I mostly recommend Grind Me Down Sweetly, and then feel free to browse my marchil bookmarks for what seems good! I don’t know what your tastes are but Shroomyystar makes super good angst (and smut), my favorite being 'Til our fingers decompose, keep my hand in yours about Marcille getting deathly sick and the dilemma to confess or to not confess, incredibly haunting piece of bittersweet but soul-crushing angst AND character study. Like wow! Chilchuck I need to throw you in a river. I want you beside me is cute bedsharing banter. From me to you makes my head spin and makes me shake my screen. And- *gets dragged off before I can mention more* Meanwhile on the flipside, Anita_Amai (the first ao3 marchil writer, still going strong 👏👏) is especially great at offering short and sweet pieces, the tone is usually light and comedic and it always makes me smile and giggle, gives me fluff attacks, the fics always a strong good scene or theme idea too. Just browse and pick any, it’s a good time. There’s soo many more. Honestly I recommend just diving into the ao3 tag and start reading. You can start by kudos and read the highest ones first to dip your toes and get the community classics one out. Early on there was a recurring anon writer who did great bittersweet domestic confession stuff like this one, lifespan angst oughh... Wherever you are now thank you for all your work 😭💖 A lot of new marchil writers are starting to post too! A csm asaden fanfic writer legend just joined the tag so marchil will probably finally get some multi-chaptered fanfics haha~ But yess there’s unrequited angst, there’s self-sabotaging angst, there’s domestic fluff, there’s falling in love and bantery fluff, bunch of good stuff <3

As to ships with similar vibes: The closest I’ve seen so far is honestly weirdly close, it’s the protagonists from a romance comedy josei called Dame na watashi ni koishite kudasai or Please love useless me! I don’t want to spoil but there’s even the guy needing to move on from a doomed love + emotional distance issues and the gal slowly invading his personal life/social circle and my god… They were coworkers, he was rude, he’s a workaholic, he’s reliable, she’s sunshine and needs to get some reality checks... The banter. THE BANTER. He represses and she copes by simping for fictional characters. He made, like, a mutual aid community for ex-gangsters. They dress up in silly costumes sometimes. They’re weeeird about each other in an unlabelable way before dating in a way (in a fun marchil in canon way). It’s so funny she’s cracking open his convoluted personal drama like her morning newspapers. There’s more there’s so much more. Give up on your dreams, make money, love loses 🔥🔥 It’s honestly just a great fun read, it’s such a mood. Haven’t read the sequel yet but there’s one so really if it hooks you you’ll be fed well and for a while. The greatest bits are too spoilery but here, have the vibe.

Howl’s Moving Castle, specifically the book, and there’s a ton of themes and narratives that are so fitting for them that I couldn’t possibly all list, I already made a post on it here if you’re interested in all the details and similarities and my AU thoughts haha.

Teen Titans 2003 the show, Beast Boy x Starfire. THAT’S RIGHT I’M A BBSTAR, BAM! 💥🫶 Jokester that’s dependable x sweet and idealistic but strong and protective. Short gremlin and tall beauty. Friends-coworkers to lovers. Very soft fluffy slice of life ship I like it a lot, and I wrote a fic for it hehe. Might do more one day, I have a bunch of prompts written down and a series I really wanted to get to sob.

I almost forgot to mention Shrek. It’s SO FUNNY how well it goes sometimes… Chil Shrek, Laios Donkey, Marcille Fiona. I want to say Mickbell could be Farquaad but even Mick doesn’t deserve this slander… Shrek 2 fear that he’s not prince charming enough for her oughh. Laios getting to be a horse good for him good for him. Winged Lion singing I need a hero. Someone stop me.

There’s also zenmiyo from Touge Oni but no one reads that </3 I gotta get to my review/lore analysis about that manga it’s sooo good a fave read of mine from last year. Like it’s so fucking good. It keeps just ramping up and getting more crazily good. Scrolling through some pages rn and it’s a unique blend of comedy, philosophy and awe-inspiring visuals and creativity. Well, sort of like late Dunmeshi actually. If it had a fandom any bigger I’d be all over it constantly. And I’d also recommend Harahara Sensei / Timebomb Teacher if it had any english translation, one of my fave mangas also. It’s about mafia, and a goody two shoes willing to go through a corruption arc to save her sister x stern rude mafioso who’s there bc he’s poor and on a revenge mission, never had any other option growing up etc etc. Ok he’s not that Chilchuck but the dynamic does have that "grow up and see the world for what it is, a shithole. It’s been hell for me" vs "ok you have a point. But also have you considered not sacrificing your humanity and emotions in a self-destructive pursuit" (not that she’s in the position to talk lmaoo) like ohh my goood him throwing his popsicle stick in the fire that she lit over a corpse, it haunts me.

From the marchil Discord it’s also fun to notice ships some of us share… Csm asaden, some combination of LotR elf x short guy, fair amount of dunmeshi ships overlap too. Haven’t found the overall common thread quite yet and I’m forgetting many that have come up but lol some off the top of my head.

Kong and Suko Headcanons + Shimo Part 2

Since quite a few of you enjoyed part 1 of this post, I finally came up with some more head canons! (With a bit of fluffy Kong x Shimo tossed in there because that ship has grown on me quite a bit as of late. I think it’s cute and creates room for tons of wholesome interactions for both parties)

Also also, I have been wanting to write a short story featuring these three ever since I saw the movie all the way back in March. I haven’t had time or energy for it, but now that I’ve started writing again and have began taking meds for my ADHD, I might release it soon! :D Nothing too long or crazy, mostly just fluff and hurt/comfort regarding things I’ve discussed in this post as well as the other part. With, of course, some underlying conflict.

Shimo is harshly underdeveloped in terms of social interaction. Unlike Suko, she values her own personal space. Kong tries his best to take things slow and offers her affectionate pats every once in a while to show she’s appreciated and acknowledged in his space. Once she’s gotten used to the touch, she’ll usually headbutt Kong’s shoulder as a way of saying “I want to be acknowledged.”

Shimo flinches whenever any ape raises their fist, thinking they’re going to strike her. As a defense, her body automatically freezes the area surrounding her. Consequently, she hates loud, sudden noises as well. Suko and Kong are the main ones who help calm her down.

Not only are Shimo’s social skills underdeveloped, but so are her communication skills. When she speaks, most of it comes out in a broken speech pattern. (Think of it like how people used to speak hundreds of years ago- Shimo- compared to modern day- most other intelligent Kaiju). She more than likely speaks in the third person out of habit. Kong does daily lessons with her to get her up to speed and make conversations between her and the pack easier.

Suko likes to tamper with/examine various machinery that Illene and the other humans bring to Hollow Earth. Sometimes it can be hard for Monarch to get things done with the little ape rummaging about.

Shimo was the one that fell first. She never had a healthy relationship with any creature since the Skar King imprisoned her. But with Kong, she was free to do what she pleased. Above all, she was safe. She watched him turn the pack into a community where everyone was respected and cared for, despite all obstacles.

Shimo feels guilty for the nerve damage her frostbite did to Kong’s hand, despite the fact that it happened under the Skar King’s control. Kong has assured he harbors no ill will towards her, but Shimo can’t shake the idea that deep down he resents her. Sometimes she’ll grab the glove in her mouth and playfully nibble on the metal (without damaging it) to try and make light of things.

I think their difference in habitat is kind of cool. Shimo is drawn to Kong because of his warmer body temperature, while Kong sits near her if the humid heat of the lava gets too unbearable. And I find it ironic given how in G v K he hated the snow, but spending time with Shimo made him hate it a little less.

Suko loves chewing on ice as a snack. Shimo is his infinite ice cube spawner.

Shimo will occasionally forget his how big she is and flop down onto her friends. (She’s like a giant Great Dane trying to sit on their human’s lap)

Suko has a habit of tackling people when he’s very excited. As stated at the beginning of this post, he lacks any understanding of personal space. This is, in part, due to past trauma of losing his caretaker. It is a huge reason as to why he refuses to sleep alone at night. He’s afraid that if he’s not by someone, he’ll lose them.

Shimo forms little ice figures that she gives to Kong as a gift. It’s her main way of showing affection.

Kong likes to take sticks and draw various symbols and figures into the mud. More often than not, Shimo will rest her head atop his and watch the process. He gets used to it over time and sometimes forget she’s even there.

Kong isn’t used to having others around or forming friendships with people outside of Jia and Illene. Having so many of the pack look up to him is subtly intimidating and puts a weight on his shoulders that he hadn’t had since before the storm on Skull Island. He also doesn’t immediately catch onto or understand the fact that Shimo likes him (Mothra is probably the one who notices first. She likes to keep tabs between the surface world and Hollow Earth). This is mostly a joke but what if Suko tries to set Shimo and Kong up on a Kaiju date— which is just them going hunting together or something. Both of them are oblivious to it.

Shimo becomes increasingly overprotective of Kong and Suko as time passes. In dire situations when Godzilla and Kong have to meet up to stop a threat, Shimo will snap at Godzilla if he tries to provoke or pick on Kong. Godzilla is the Alpha, but Shimo isn’t too intimidated by him. Though she lacks most motivation to fight anymore, she’ll still stand up for those she has gotten close to.

I don’t ship R*nance, but, man, it’s wild seeing people go “um, why would you ship that, Nancy is so mean to Robin” when they ship H@rringrove. Shouldn’t they be bored because Nancy’s not mean enough? She doesn’t even pop up when Robin’s gazing longingly at Vickie to go “huh, guess your crush is getting porked by Mr. Mullet tonight,” let alone break crockery over her head.

hollyberry & powdered sugar have known each other since they were littleeee-- before she finds her soul jam & everything! so they were already pretty close. in my head powdered sugar is at the very least acquainted w/ the others. hollyberry & powdered sugar were adventurers together until the berry families get united & the hollyberry kingdom is founded.

hollyberry & powdered sugar both fight pitaya! pitaya isn't one to back down and rest, but powdered sugar is insistent on bandaging the dragon up. hes just not one to leave someone injured. this quickly becomes a cycle where they fight and powdered sugar patches it up before it thinks about flying off. pitaya starts not minding (bc then it can get back to fighting faster)

this is at the very least the beginnings of their relationships w/ eachother.

as a brief summary: powdered sugar is able to get pseudo-immortality but has to stay in an inn of his founding in order to keep it up. the inn is created post-dark flour war and powdered sugar presumes hollyberry to be either dead or missing

so when a certain unnamed huntress comes across an inn and sees her childhood friend of so many years ago-- safe to say they're both surprised to see each other! hollyberry doesn't really ask, but she will still try to visit.

...but by legend of the red dragon she's starting to think that some answers on how powdered sugar is still alive after YEARS are needed. especially if it's some kind of sinister magic. this story powdered sugar gets to tag along with ^___^ by force. but it also lets the trio do some necessary rekindling that eventually pushes them into considering romanticisms

im actually like writing the legend of the red dragon retelling w/ powdered sugar's inclusion as a fic but idk if ill ever post it

post legend of the red dragon i think pitayasugar happens first. they kind of always had moments but never really talked about it. hollyberry & powdered sugar sort of resolve themselves into thinking that they'll just be friends for eternity. until eventually somebody pushes them into getting together. (like no you two making out w/ eachother when youre drunk is NOT typically a normal friend thing!)

but yeah i think theyre all cute together and um ilike them a lot smiles i think theyre very complicated but also so uncomplicated bc thats just how it is when youre friends/lovers as immortal beings
