kinda funny how most programmers would prefer to not have to touch apple products with a ten-foot pole but if you talk to basically any designer over like 25 they'll swear up and down and backwards to friday that nothing could ever hold a candle to any apple product
#part of this is probably tied into the adobe suite/creative cloud being made mostly just for apple. for some reason.#so it doesn't work as well on windows and the app versions for android are pitiable#idek if you can use it on linux at all#i'm a designer btw but I'm definitely in the programmer camp#smh adobe get your freaking ACT TOGETHER I DON'T EVEN LIKE PHOTOSHOP BUT I'D SURE LIKE IT A LOT MORE IF IT WORKED ON MY COMPUTER#you're telling me I can render 3D modeling in maya just fine but I can't use the blur tool in photoshop without it crashing????#what kind of sick joke.....#apple v windows v linux#computer os#computers#programming#designers#adobe creative cloud

the funny thing about the whole "The hardest part of moving from Windows to Linux is just that software you use won't run on Linux" also exists if you try to move from Linux to a BSD.

Make your computer start the task for you
If timers don't work and getting started on something is hard, maybe having your computer launch the program you need will help.
(This tip works for Windows only)
Search for Task Scheduler from your Start Menu
Click on Create Task
3. It'll start you in the General tab. Give your task a Name.
4. You'll need a trigger. Go to the Triggers tab and click New
5. Schedule it!
6. Go the Actions tab and click New
7. In the window that pops up, leave the action on "Start a program" and click the Browse button and go to the program you want to open automatically for you.
Post-it note blindness? Have it launch your sticky notes program only when the task would become available.

RenderDoc the block
Today I solved the blocking issue in my Macana OpenGL project. I did it using RenderDoc, an open-source graphics debugger suggested to me by a colleague.
Since I'm a complete noob at RenderDoc (and not very proficient at OpenGL either), it took me awhile to gain traction. I didn't use the tool very effectively. But the key virtue of a good debugger is that helps users visualize what's going on. Somehow in the flood of details, I noticed that my problematic texture (which didn't have mipmaps) used a filter intended for mipmaps. And that proved to be my issue.
Meanwhile, I'm making progress configuring my new Linux Mint environment. I finally got the Cinnamon panel (analogous with the Windows taskbar) configured the way I like. I must've spent hours; it seems to me the Cinnamon UI could be a lot more intuitive.
Also I discovered I had 2 copies of LibreOffice: one installed from Apt and another installed from Flatpak. I only need one copy, so I'm removing the older (Apt) install to free up disk space.

TUTORIAL 1
Making Gifs With DaVinci Resolve and FFmpeg or Gifski
FULL TUTORIALS | RECOLORED GIFS
Want to skip the tedious traditional process of screencapping a scene frame by frame and coloring and captioning those frames in batches? Would you rather make high quality gifs in a video editor instead, with a huge toolkit of color adjustment options, applied shot by shot rather than frame by frame, all for the price of $0 per month??? This tutorial is for you!
EXAMPLE SETS
Operating systems: Mac, Windows, and Linux
Quality potential: High
Software needed: DaVinci Resolve and FFmpeg (or Gifski CLI)
Difficulty: Moderate to Advanced
Time: Example set took me 17 minutes
Competencies: Some general familiarity with video editors and using your computer's shell helps but isn't required to follow the tutorial. There is a workaround that allows you to avoid the command line entirely on Mac of Windows. Familiarity with recoloring tools is also great but not required.
LIMITATIONS: None, but do note that DaVinci Resolve has minimum hardware requirements.
See the full tutorial here!

A noninsignificant portion of my day is now spent fighting for my life in Linux and being fed unhelpful answers by tech support that refuse to give any actual comprehensive training on the cluster. What is it about Linux that makes people lose all empathy I stg.
#like I get the questions are probably annoying but why would you go into a tech support job then#idk like I feel like most other professionals are way more patient and compassionate about their tools?#in regards to ppl trying to use them or showing enthusiasm#the Linux community just feels like a dick measuring contest sometimes

personal nitpick completely unrelated to the winrar vulnerability itself, but.
the way this person wrote this pisses me off (probably more than it should), theres hundreds of reasons why a developer wouldnt want to implement self-updating in software, especially since implementing connecting to the internet to auto-install updates could open it up to even more potential security holes, plus it just sucks to develop. my web browser of choice, librewolf (a fork of firefox,) excludes self-updating and requires manual updates (or updates from a package manager) for these sorts of reasons. put your big boy pants on and manually download updates from developers websites and shut up
anyway. regarding winrar specifically just use 7zip instead, its free and open source, back when i used windows it served me well.
it does use unrar code to support decompressing rar archives but from what ive read the vulnerability in winrar shouldnt affect 7zip or any other programs using unrar, only winrar itself
#i use arch linux which has a package manager managing updates for me but even when i used windows i was used to manually updating things#like emulators and various open source tools#my current web browser of choice librewolf explicitly doesnt have self-updating for reasons like these too#anyway i appreciate that author warning everyone that they should update but i hate them for that comment abt it not autoupdating#ur not a developer ur a writer on the verge shut up lmao

Can you believe it guys
I got a voidsona. Take a look
Here's another version of it holding a banana
Just because they're made of void, that doesn't mean they can't have a nice, healthy snack.
Or, play a nice wooden flute.
Just kidding. They don't have lungs. It's more about the aesthetic. But you know what they CAN play?
The ability to summon multiple tendrils really comes handy.
