Seeking IT post
Sadly, the contract for @fordprfct has come to an end, and he has to find new work. (although 4 years for what was supposed to be a 1 year contract isn't bad - and they jumped through hoops to keep him when his former contracting company was rejected.) I've seen through his coworkers' reactions, he's VERY good at what he does. Jobhunting is much more unpleasant. He works remotely, and I'm hoping someone might know of an opening for him, so here's what he does. I can tell you, he picks up new software challenges like a cat going after tuna.
I.T. / Computer Systems Administrator with 20+ years experience
Unix Computer Systems Administrator, with focus on RHEL (RedHat Enterprise Linux) and automation
Experience with IBM BigFix, VMWare products (vSphere, vRealize / Aria Automation Orchestrator), shell / Python scripting
Worked in Government, Finance, and Internet Service Provider industries

well i didn't end up writing anything this month but i did install ubuntu side by side with my existing windows 10 install without breaking anything and even got scrivener running and my license validated, so if i ever actually do write anything ever again i'll be ✨prepared✨
and now my laptop doesn't sound like a jet aircraft taking off anymore and it's stopped throwing mysterious, possibly ram related tantrums!

I'm visiting my parents and I took my Penguin Machine with me so I could actually configure it and learn to use it. I'm feeling like a kid learning to use Windows for the first time but it's been fine so far.

My job role is changing for the third time in less than a year so I thought I would start looking into learning Linux just to solidify a path of my skills instead of being a blanket "technology support"
Turns out, even just picking a starting point is it's own maze!

the openai thing truly is so insane to me because its like a kid who has never been told no and is being enabled by the most evil parents in the universe (Big Tech) decided that they needed make the depression nexus from the hit movie “ai will will only serve to isolate us and make us depressed” and to do that needed to rip off the most litigious richest actress on the planet. these people are stupid but i didnt think they were that stupid.

Jfc Windows, forced updates are one thing but unannounced forced updates that automatically install and reboot my computer overnight are something else entirely, like actively hostile to the user. I frequently leave calculations running overnight when I leave the office so that they're done when I get back in the morning, but now I can't trust my computer to not shut itself down and kill the calculation. Clown shoes operating system.
