Will answering “part of me will always want to” when Jack asks him if he’ll slip away with Hannibal is actually an insane thing to say cause at any other point during the show before that episode Jack would not have wanted Will to get this close to Hannibal. But now he needs him to!!!!!!!!!!!!! So he is forced to accept the part of Will that is fascinated by the very reason Hannibal is supposed to go to prison, his cruelty & violence, and therefore also that part of Hannibal. Will might as well have said “I wanna eat people with this guy and that’s the very reason why you need me to help you”. And the next scene is him being petty and jealous towards Hannibal’s wife. How did Jack not quit after one single day of working this case

Lestat is a vicious horrible thing with his teeth marks on every part of Louis and yet even with decades of freedom, a new partner, the ability to recognise and condemn cruelty and abusive actions, Louis still wants him back. Knowing what he is, what he can do, Louis wants him back. It never mattered if vampires can dream, for Lestat haunts his waking days, a torturous vision of the only living one Louis really loves.

THANK YOU for explaining the Louis/Armand fight with such clarity. Like obviously Armand has the ultimate power over the relationships here and the way he behaves in this episode is world class terrible, we can all see that, but I feel like I've been going crazy when people are softening Louis's words as light banter while Armand responding somewhat in kind is framed as malicious suicide baiting.

It's not my take but I would understand if people were approaching this as "Armand sucks so bad and technically can leave whenever so I give 0 fucks what Louis does or says to him," but "Louis was just being mean" doesn't track for me. He is at this point in his life using regularly enough that Armand's first response when he gets vicious is a bitter "here comes the drugs." He's used to this. Addiction is a complicated and terrible disease but Louis is Armand's partner, for whatever reason, apparently (big caveat) of his own volition and he responds to Armand being upset about his cycle of risky drug use and insincere apologies with a "you're boring and smothering" speech before turning on a dime to "cringe of you to be a victimized. it's given you a real victim mentality" when Armand says he's boring too. It's legitimately reprehensible behaviour! And that's fine. I will continue making heart eyes at him whenever he appears on screen undeterred.

Personally, I think the tragedy of Beyond Birthday’s life is kinda overlooked. Not even just his experience in Wammy’s House but also being someone born with the Shinigami eyes and how that undoubtedly fucked with his perception of life.

Like. There wasn’t a single thing in Beyond’s life that wasn’t predetermined for him and he knows it. Beyond is the only character in the Death Note universe who has the eyes for long enough to understand the math of the lifespans and the only character smart enough to deduce their meaning without consulting a Shinigami. He’s also the only one to have them without being aware of the existence of the Death Note. He knew he can’t kill anyone whose life hasn’t reached its predetermined end and he knew that it’s the permanent design of the universe. (I think it’s safe to assume he never saw a human die from a Shinigami cutting their life short because he was very confident in plan to pick off victims who were doomed to die with or without his intervention.)

Basically, Beyond was trapped in a universe where he ultimately had no influence over what happened and he was the only one who knew it. Nobody else had the power to see other’s inevitable end like he did, and by the time anyone got the chance, they had the Death Note to play with fate. Everyone’s life span is predetermined and humans aren’t supposed to have power over changing that. And factoring in his experience at Wammy’s, Beyond also has no control over his own life since he was told to be exactly like L since the beginning. His sense of identity was also predetermined by his superiors.

It’s clear then that playing within the confines of this world by stumping L through a series of deaths (that were already meant to happen) was the most control he could get.

And then I think about how fucked it is that, at some point in jail, he must’ve seen another inmate with years left of living drop dead from a sudden heart attack. For a minute, everything he knows to be fact is called into question. But then he too dies of a heart attack before he even gets the chance to question this higher power he never got to see.
