Yes, morals are literally a product of people having to live together...but that actually has little relevance in that discussion. Because morality is a product of subjects, therefore not objective.

A long time ago, it was literally morally right to own slaves, but today this is - rightfully - considered morally wrong. Morals are fluent and a product of the people living at a certain place during a certain period in time

That means you forcing your morality on a different place, is possible of course, but you look a lil bit like a fool, if you do not take the subjective aspect of morality into consideration.

Murder is often considered morally wrong among people for obvious reasons. If murder was not considered evil, the survival of the fittest would rule without exception.

However, there are situations, where we absolve people from this: So there are "murders" that are considered justified/ a necessary evil.

And even Yona and co. commits such murders, when they kill the "evil guys" for example or among soldiers or guards. Or kings.

Basically all kings were responsible for murders in history, since they started wars, judged people ect...

In Kouka, a king is responsible for his people - at least in the system of Kouka, where the reign of a king is not merely dependant on heritage, but also (military) ability. We can conclude it, as the ruling house changed several times in the two thousand years of Kouka.

So King Il was a king, that has proved during his 10 year reign, that he was a bad king, incompetent through and through and many people suffered in several places due to it.

And several horrible people with little consideration to the life or wellbeing of Kouka´s citizens would have likely replaced him.

Was it therefore not a necessary evil for Soo Won to kill King Il? If a soldier is allowed to protect his country or Yona and co. to kill evil people, then - as a logical conclusion- it should be considered a necessary evil that Soo Won killed King Il to rescue Kouka.

And surprise: He did. He was succesful and even Yona acknowledged it. The necessary evil, pronunciation of necessary.

But let's see regicide - Killing Il, immoral?

Let's imagine, we are in a lawless society. We have an asshole of a father. Everyday he is a good-for-nothing deadbeat who does nothing but cherish a holy book and worship a cult. His wife and children are starving to death, but he doesn't care. Other men come over to rape his wife, he lets them. He doesn't want to confront any of them because he is so kind and he hates to fight. As long as he can avoid fighting and defending his family, even if they rape, kill or traffic his children he's fine with it.

Now, not only does he not want to defend his family, he doesn't want anyone else to protect or save his family either.

Finally one day, someone has had enough. He kills the deadbeat father, defends the wife and children from those cruel men. He gives better living & learning opportunities, and is even prepared to kill to deter a few assholes who can't seem to take the hint to stay away.

From that moment you can evaluate his management as a ruler.

Yes, I can, because I am not an idiot. I would defend that man who defended me. I would choose that man who is fighting for my interests.

In an election would you choose to vote for a candidate who just prioritizes personal interests or would you vote for someone who is out there working to change the actual shitty situation?

Leave the poor dragons out, anon. If she spat, they'd be admiring her spit for the rest of their lifespan. But it is true that Yona has influenced Tae-jun, Lili and Kouren. I agree here, but the Mei-nyan narrative for the lack of a better word was lame as shit. (It is one of the perfect examples of oversimplifying Yona's circumstances.)

And NPCs? - They say the first time you read a story, its about the protagonist. The second, third, fourth, as you keep re-reading, the story changes, it stops becoming the protagonist's story, and once you have read it more times than you can count it becomes a world's story.

Go, re-read the story, until the death of the kid on that random panel resonates with you. Those characters might be NPCs to you, and NPCs to Yona, but you see those to Soo-won they weren't.

Wrong and wrong. It has been emphasized through out the manga that Soo-won always wants to minimize sacrifices even in war. Soo-won uses the analogy of the boxes to rationally analyze the situation. Don't twist it.

When Yon-hi says - Il is Yona's father, and Yona would pay for it as well if Soo-won passes judgement on Il. Soo-won brings up the box metaphor to convey that to him Il and Yona are separate matters.

And he was absolutely right. Il was the father of the country. The King. Him neglecting his country is a separate matter, and him being a loving father to Yona is a separate matter.

The chapter 221 where we see a flashback of Yu-hon's teachings is actually a very beautiful chapter. Yu-hon's idea itself is not wrong. In war, people have to be clear headed. The core message is do not lose yourself to emotion.

However in Soo-won's case he has always repressed his emotions. It was one of his greatest flaws. We see the most complicated flow of emotions through out the chapter. The mental war, the pressure to make the right decision-nothing was simplified for Soo-won, his delayed miss in decision was not glossed over in this chapter, and at the end is the punching realization that he can't discard them. — it was not reluctance— The exact opposite. Does this look like an expression of reluctance to you? - It is realization.

That is the kind of challenging thinking I wanted Yona to have as well regarding her identity, the nature of the dragon warriors. The questions. Not just happy picnic days. Unfortunately, anytime the opportunity came to ask those questions, the narrative was turned into some mushy picnic.

As for the King's illness. It is a national issue. If the information where to leak into the wrong hands it would spell the greatest disaster. He is not wrong to take precautions. It is simply common sense. And let me tell you if Soo-won really wanted Hak dead. Hak would be dead. Hak himself admits Hyoori was someone even he could not beat.

Gilgamesh in the Fate Franchise is an insufferable prick half the time. With ideals significantly different from Rider - Iskandar. Can you consider him one of the antagonists of the Fate Franchise?

Code Geass - Lelouch and Suzaku - Each hated the other for a period of time. Who was the hero here, who was the villain? Cordelia, the Orange dude?

At the same time, Suguru Geto and Gojo Satoru, they were the best of friends, yet he was the antagonist and Satoru one of the protagonists.

You say his role has been diluted? Very wrong.

The correct term is multi-faceted. And multi-facted characters are some of the best written characters.

If a main character's hate or dislike was enough to determine who the antagonist was in a story then I assure you, you will never guess who the protagonist and the antagonist are in the stories like Pandora Hearts or Yatagarasu.

I am baffled by such one-dimensional standards. If your idea of a story is just to blindly follow the protagonist's narrative, I am afraid your understanding of the world of that story will forever be one dimensional.

Akatsuki no Yona is one of those stories that has so many deep thought provoking moments and emotions, and its such a shame that you are only able to see one side of it.

The fandom when Anya is nice to jimmy and compliments/butters him up after the crash: obviously this is a fawn response. She doesn’t actually think these things about jimmy, she is simply trying to protect herself against a volatile, unstable person by placating him

The fandom when curly tries to placate jimmy by telling Jimmy he’d fix things, after being very nervous about jimmy’s anger and reaction when talking to Anya right beforehand and his heart racing so hard on the way to confront jimmy that he’s likely on the verge of a panic or anxiety attack: hmm. Obviously everything curly is saying to jimmy here is completely genuine and not motivated by anything. He obviously doesn’t care about the fact jimmy raped Anya and only cares about helping jimmy at the detriment to Anya. He’s a rape apologist. There could literally be no other potential explanation for why curly is saying the things he is saying right now. Let’s take everything curly is saying here completely at face value and not analyze anything else about Curly’s behavior or the rest of the scene.

Potentially unpopular opinion, but I love that Miguel was an asshole again in the second part of this season! It’s a reminder that he’s a character and not just Johnny’s main support. I mean Robby didn’t deserve it at all, but it makes sense that Miguel couldn’t help taking his anger out on him. And I love that Johnny was on the receiving end of it, because it feels like the tension between them just went away for no reason.

You’re never bothering me, and I completely agree! They so rarely give Miguel any narrative agency these days, and like Johnny all it does is reduce him as a character. Miguel is a whole, complicated, messy teenager. He isn’t a saint. He isn’t perfect. He makes mistakes and has ugly unfair feelings sometimes, like every single teenager does. And I love when this show actually lets him be like this, lets him be wrong, lets him be a little bit of a dick to the people he cares about who don’t deserve it. Lets him be a real person with actual human feelings. And then also lets him take accountability for what he does wrong, apologize, show how much he’s grown, that he is a good person and a good friend. I love it truly, and it feels like it’s something that in a lot of ways hasn’t really been granted to Miguel since he fell off that balcony.

Ok I'll have to play the devil's advocate on this one and defend Claire here (not really, but kinda).

Honestly, this feels like a copout and absolving Carmy of responsibility for his own actions. As Nat says in fishes, no one can make a person act a certain way. And as he said in the fridge and I agree, he did this to himself. Knowing his history, you understand why and sympathize with him. However, he did this! He chose the easy way out. He chose not to be honest. Those were his choices whether or not we think Claire was pushy or manipulative.

Carmy's major issue is not being able to decide. Wanting something but preferring to take the comfortable route even if it's detrimental to his real desires. He has shown this behavior since season one- taking one step forward and then several steps back, sabotaging himself.

The fact that Claire might be into hook up culture doesn't necessarily mean that she was just trying to use him for sex. She obviously wanted more and he did give her the impression that he was capable of more. Just because she engaged in hook-up culture also doesn't mean she's not deserving of love and an actual real relationship. And Carmy is not a delicate little flower (ok, ok, he kind of is but let's be logical for a bit).

She did ask him if he wanted her to have his number. He said yes- with the I want you Freudian slip there and all. She asked him again why he gave a fake number, he literally said because he likes her so much blah blah blah. Even when she asked if he was busy the first day, he couldn't even bring himself to say he had work thing with a coworker. Each time he could have just been honest. He chose not to be.

Yes, maybe Claire should have seen the signs. Maybe she wasn't even interested in the truth, she just wanted what she wanted. But she's not clair(e)voyant 🙃 haha couldn't help it . His heart could have been racing because he was so excited or horny or in love. She did ask if he was ok and he said he was great. That's not on her.

It was his responsibility to shut it down or fan the flames and he chose to do the later. Maybe he actually really cares about her (barf) and is just not ready/healthy enough for a relationship. Maybe he thought he could reignite that old flame and it would solve his Sydney problem. Maybe he just wanted to get laid/lose his virginity and get it over with. Either way, he potentially hurt a real person on the other side of this game, at least from what we know for sure, all speculation aside.

THAT is what he needs to take responsibility for. His dishonesty. Does he need to apologize? I say yes (but I'd still see it as poetic justice if he doesn't after her never apologize quip). If he doesn't and also take necessary steps to right them, he will do it again to someone else and will be bigger and worse.

These seeds do grow.

People can easily use each other in all kinds of relationships, that’s why I think it’s so important to have relationships established on knowing and caring for people and not seeing them as disposable.

Hook-up culture is not that. I really don’t think it’s accurate to say Carmy used Claire and not that they used each other, but also one person has experience with hook-up culture and it’s not Carmy, and they make sure to show this is what Claire and her friend group typically do.

They reverse the gender tropes a lot on this show and definitely did around this relationship, and Carmy wasn’t even going to tell Claire what he said in the walk-in. She was in a place she wasn’t supposed to be and accidentally overheard it.

She walked away. She didn’t try to work it out or talk about it. And it was about him not her. He never blamed it on her at any point. Which she lies about later to Tiff. It wouldn’t feel good to hear that for anyone, but he didn’t know she was there and he wasn’t saying it to hurt her.

There’s also no indication he ever felt safe enough with Claire to have that deep of a convo, all their convos are depicted as vapid and talking around their real feelings for a reason. Claire was using Carmy as well. She knew he had anxiety, she noticed his heart racing. She is a medical professional.

Just because you have sex with someone or call them a “girlfriend” or whatever, doesn’t equal intimacy or a bond of any kind. Which, Carmy thinks that word sounds awful, but it doesn’t come up very often that maybe he doesn’t care for the gendered dynamics of that?

He doesn’t say it outright, but the whole thing with him dating Claire is that it’s what Mikey and his family thought was good for him, and Mikey (and Richie and Fake’s) opinions of Claire are extremely sexist. Notice how Carmy gets grossed out by Richie calling Syd “sweetheart” or Nat pretending to be a helpless little girl to manipulate Cicero. He literally calls it “gross”.

Anyway, just me ranting about this for the millionth time but Carmy can apologize to Claire for using her because he didn’t know what he actually wanted when she was just hooking up with him for fun and thrills (she tells us that’s what she’s into) and then it didn’t go the way she wanted and got too inconvenient so she walked.

Carmy wants intimacy and emotional safety, and the show has gone to great pains to show he gets that from Syd, in contrast to anyone associated with his past. What Syd is getting in return needs to be answered now from her POV, but that contrast is the reason Carmy and Claire don’t work. Not because he made the mistake of calling her his girlfriend in order to not be seen as a jerk by Syd and not because they had sex (big deal TBH), and not he had a meltdown and admitted his real feelings to Tina.

I've been thinking a lot about how Rook's reunion with his former mentor, Zara, is going to go, and since I can't predict what the DM is going to have her do or say, I can only dwell on what I know is going to happen. Which happens to include taking off the illusion ring that's been hiding his injuries from her. So have a snippet of the description I have planned for that moment:

He hesitates, twisting a ring on his finger. Looking at it more closely, she can tell it’s very finely crafted, and must have been very expensive. A large emerald is set into the band. Rook sighs, and pulls the ring off his finger in one quick motion.  Immediately she’s struck by the difference in his appearance as the illusion melts away. He looks awful. His warm, healthy skin fades to a dull and sickly grey. There’s huge bags under his deeply sunken eyes, and his cheeks are hollowed, as though they have been carved out by an overeager sculptor. He looks like he’s recently risen from the grave.  While he was thin before, now she can see his ribs under the skin, and his collarbones are exaggeratedly pronounce. Thin white lines left by dozens upon dozens of recently healed cuts are scattered across his body. On top of that, faded bruises cover most of his visible skin, a mottled mosaic of purple and yellow. They’re clearly days, maybe weeks old, and she can only begin to imagine what they must have looked like when fresh. Bandages are barely visible under his shirt, wrapping around his back, hinting at even more injuries.

I have a headcanon that all the Papyri/Papyruses have a bad habit of not knocking before opening doors. When Frisk is in Sans’ room Papyrus barges in without knocking. Sans usually keeps the door locked so Papyrus is used to door unlocked = ok to enter. I think all it would be the same in the other aus too. Older brother used to locking their doors to keep younger brother out unfortunately teaching them not to bother knocking. I think is a fun headcanon to exploit to create silly scenarios. What do you think? Does it hold water?

I also think it'd be interesting if all the Papyri had the same habit but for different reasons.

e.g. Classic!Sans gave up on teaching Pap to knock because Pap kept getting too excited/annoyed and forgets to knock, Swap!Pap just can't be bothered much to his brother's chagrin, UF!Pap starts off similar to classic but it becomes a thing of not-knocking as a way to catch people off guard (no time to hide things if you aren't expecting someone!), Swapfell probably depends on your interpretation/which version, but you get my drift lol.

SAYING THAT THOUGH... we do unfortunately have evidence that Papyrus is a polite boy and knocks in canon (sometimes) 😔. He knocks on Undyne's door, when he brings Frisk/the player to her house so they can become friends!

I think it's a super fun headcanon even so, but if having this one instance bothers you, there's plenty of ways to work around it. Not to mention we only have like... 2 and a half instances of door opening action (half from that pic from the newsletter that has Papyrus slamming into Grillby's when he's looking for Sans) which isn't enough to conclude much of anything from either way lmao.

Again, I still think that your headcanon holds up, but it got me thinking about ways to incorporate Papyrus knocking on Undynes door into things... sticking with your existing reasoning, you could always have a situation where all the Papyri keep that assumption, (unlocked means it's ok to come in and locked means stay out) and Undyne has simply learned to lock her door lolol. That does bring to mind the image of Papyrus just... jiggling the doorknob for doors that are locked though. Let him in!!! (Now I think about it... this is actually just how doors seem to work in games generally. Most doors are unlocked, and you enter as you please... if they're locked you either try again/find a key or knock LMAO)

Or maybe he knocked because he wants to be a good role model for Frisk... (this pairs well with a headcanon that I've seen where Papyrus putting on a show/playing things up a little [like the date] for Frisk since they're a kid)

TLDR: that's a FANTASTIC headcanon, I love it, and also do whatever you want forever!!!
