sometimes i feel like squid game tiktok fans have the most surface level understanding of the show. the takes i see on there are horrendous. “in-ho shot his brother and not gi-hun” “gi hun prioritizes everyone else above his daughter” “sangwoo is a villian” “__ is just like the vips because theyre manipulative/made a bad decision” “why did dae ho flake on them” yall are gonna make me go insane

-Jung-bae asks Gi-hun out, and he is surprisingly a really smooth man

-Jung bae was lowkey heartbroken at the loss of Gi-huns cute fluffy hair, but he finds himself enjoying the new rugged look

-Jung-bae is a good cook, and is successful in finally getting gi hun to eat

-they feed and help stray animals together.

-jung bae is really the only one to bring out the old gi hun and make him happy

-gi hun makes sure to treat and protect his man. he knows what he has and he isnt losing him.

-they regularly go on dates, even if they just sit in each other’s presence

-gi hun loves how fun and carefree jung bae is, and is always trying to find things they can do to bring that even more out of jung bae

-dae ho is absolutely pumped about them being together

-they were both each others reasons for realizing they are bi/gay

-they understand each other very well, which is why they rarely fight

Ways I notice Gi-hun has changed:

- rarely eats. we see him eating all the time before and during the games of season 1, but never saw him eating this season. he is noticeably skinnier

- his facial expressions and moods are only of sadness, distress, and anger. we only see him smile 3 times. no other emotion is seen on his face, unlike how he was before where he was very expressive. he still is, but the range of the emotions are so small.

-he doesn’t move around as much, like every ounce of energy is drained from him

-he has more of a smoking habit

-this man does absolutely no relaxing. you can tell how tense his body and mind is at all times

-he’s learned how to defend himself better

-he has no one, and i mean absolutely no one by his side in those three years between the games. he has jung bae for a little while, but he loses him too.

-there is no light in his eyes anymore

-he doesn’t talk as often as he used to, and when he does it’s pretty monotone compared to how he used to talk

Basically the games sucked every drop of light out of this man and we will never get the old gi hun back. I mourn this loss every day.

Thanks for this ask! It’s such a good question. It’s also tough, though, because i don’t have many negative things to say about this show. I love it.

i honestly wish they could have explored more things regarding in-ho alone, more specifically his relationship with jun-ho. it’s one of the most interesting things about the show. i guess thats not really a criticism or something i want gone, but i think it would add a lot to in-ho’s character and how complex he is. i am dying at the mystery of what he was like before becoming the frontman and what that process was like. i think they might show us some of this in season 3, but i just wish i knew more.

what would you guys change?

Actually i think the take that in-ho was jealous of jung-bae isn’t a reach. we can also see how envious he might have been outside of a shipping.

If we think about how in-ho had conflicting feelings and may have sometimes been rooting for gi-hun, he might have at some point genuinely wished they could have a normal, real connection. jung-bae was such a good friend and brought out the dearly missed side of gi-hun we all know and love. jung-bae quickly made new friends, too. he is just so easy to get along with.

why would in-ho be jealous?

there would be no going back for in-ho. in-ho could never have a connection with anyone like that, could never make real friendships if they knew him sincerely. gi-hun, who he relates so much to and sees his old self in, would never forgive him and genuinely never get close to him.

how could he not be jealous of a man like jung-bae?

The many times the show made it obvious that the Hwang bros love and care for each other

Inho gave his kidney to Junho because he can’t let his little brother die. If that doesn’t scream “LOVE” I don’t know what does.

Junho in s1. Do I need to elaborate? He literally risked his life going there. He killed ruthlessly. I know that he is aware there’s a high probability that Inho’s already dead (considering he was one of the players) but he still went on. He wanted justice if his brother was really dead. That is DEDICATION. And you can’t have dedication without love.

The Frontman looking at Junho’s ID for too long. I’m pretty sure his brain froze there for a moment before experiencing mixed emotions as to how he can keep his little brother alive. Also the, “bring him to me alive,”—no one is allowed hurt his little brother except Inho himself

The VIP room when that one fucking VIP asked Junho to stay, and Junho replied, “but I must serve the other guests.” We all saw the frontman look their way (it’s only 1 second so it’s a blink and miss it). He recognized his little brother’s voice. (But at that moment, he was unsure so he didn’t do anything.)

Inho shooting Junho on the shoulder but hesitating and shaking before doing so. After shooting him, he looked so distressed. He even hallucinated an image of his brother when he was cleaning his wound. He’s clearly on the verge of crying too. This was the very first time we saw that the frontman still has humanity in him.

I’m pretty sure it was Inho who sent Captain Park to rescue his brother. To ensure he’d make it out of the island alive. But also to keep him running in circles so he wouldn’t find the island again. He wanted his brother away and safe from the games.

Junho’s last word before being in a coma & Junho’s first word after being in a 1 year coma is “hyung.”

Junho continued to search for the island for 2 years after that 1 year coma. We all know he wants to see his brother first before trying to save everyone there. Is he even trying to save the players at this point? When we all know he could ruthlessly kill people who got in his way of searching for his brother? (Well, he has a sense of justice. But I would still say his brother comes first.)

Junho not telling Gihun about the frontman’s identity. His face looking all sad and depressed whenever Gihun mentions “the frontman.”

Remember the snipers who shot the cars trailing Inho’s limousine? The snipers didn’t shoot Junho’s car but instead, there was something attached in his car that only affected one wheel. Inho really couldn’t risk some snipers shooting his little brother.

I’ve said this in another post but I’ll say it again: Their relationship wouldn’t be so complicated if they didn’t love each other.

People who keep riding the "Gi Hun is stupid" train seem to forget that he graduated from a Technical High School, meaning he received hands-on training in his field of study and he mastered complex, mechanical-related skills that required critical thinking, technical expertise, and problem-solving abilities.

He had the practical skills and knowledge to hold down a stable job for 16 years, until he was screwed over by management. The only reason he couldn't continue working in his field was because blacklisted for participating in a strike.

TL;DR: Stop assuming he's dumb or incapable just because his intelligence doesn’t fit into a socially accepted mold.
