I'm gonna say smth and I need people to read and understand what I mean.
It is perfectly fine to critique games. It doesn't matter what exactly you critique. You don't like the story? Say it. You don't like the combat? Say it. You dislike the way previous lore has been handled? Say it. You dislike the character creator? Say it. You think certain aspects of the game feel lazy or odd? Fucking say it.
Games at this point of time cost 60-70 bucks. Just the game itself. And it's often not even a physical copy, just a digital key they can revoked at any moment if they feel like it. If you want an advantage or a pretty limited skin or what have ya its gonna be 80-150 bucks. Yes that's how outrageous the prices are becoming. Let alone any future DLCs.
And again, it's 60 fucking bucks for just the base game. That's a lot of money for games. Not too long ago you'd be chased with pitchforks and torches had you said your game was that expensive. Some phones are as expensive as two AAA games, games that usually shine with a shit ton of flaws, bugs, missing content, messed up lore and generally feel like the publisher just wanted to make a quick dime. And considering how little time they take to develop, the later often holds true.
But yk what else? If you don't express your disgruntlement or your anger with these practices it's gonna keep going. Shit is only gonna get more expensive while also providing a worse playing experience. Y'all know what the big guys said about BG3. That we, the players, shouldn't expect that to be the new standard.
But hey, listen, we fucking should. It's our money and time. Our enjoyment of long established series or the first title of many. We should expect it to be fucking good and finished especially for such a great prize. We should expect to find entertainment in the things we buy exclusively for entertainment.
So please for the love of god stop attacking people for voicing their very valid and personal opinions. In fact do the opposite and join them and encourage others to do the fucking same. I'm so god damn tired of publishers doing everything only for the sake of sales rather than the art behind it. And yes of course 'the poor employees' and whatever excuses there are for these attacks. Guess fucking what buddy? You encouraging the Publishers behaviour by shutting down any and all criticism and buying whatever the fuck they slapped a name on is just telling them they get away with treating their people like less than shit.
Criticism is healthy. Criticism is required for a system to work and develop in positive ways rather than whatever tf is happening now. Voicing your opinion and critiquing aspects you find poorly handled is not hating a game. It's being disappointed that something you love and are absolutely passionate about was not treated well because some rich guy wanted yet another bonus check.
If a game is shit, call it out. If a system was handled poorly, call it out. If publisher try to limit the content and systems you're exposed to in the first 2 hours because you can still return the game in that period of time, call it the fuck out.
#This is generally speaking#But the 2h bit is about datv in particular#Love how the first 2h in which I could've returned it were a great nothing burger#Feels pretty damn calculated if I may say so#Especially considering who published this game#Datv critical#Just being fucking critical in general#Pls vent ur frustrations y'all#If ya don't no one's gonna hear and nothings gonna change

3 months. Thatâs how long Cale Henituse had been gone to complete the Sealed Godâs test. Time flew faster on Earth 2 but it was still a long time.
Too long.
He enjoyed his experience there. Enjoyed rewriting fate and healing his despair. He knows it will not rewrite his past nor make him forget. Nonetheless, he was happy.
But his even happier to be back to his home. To his family.Â
Thatâs why he allowed himself to be emotional. To bask in the moment while accepting his family's greeting. Even the deadly barrier did little to ruin his mood.
Perhaps he had been too emotional. Maybe he let his emotions get the best of him.
As he stepped out of the grass bed, thatâs devoid of barriers, he finally saw one of the people he had been looking for the most.
_____.
3 months. They have been apart for 3 months. Again, it was faster on Caleâs end but it was still too long of a time.
He feels his heart beat faster in his chest. And no itâs not because of the Vitality of the Heart.
Surge of emotions passed him as he stared at their face. They had been waiting at the back, letting the kids and everyone else have their moment first. A smile graced their faces as they watched the scene unfold before them.
âWelcome home. I missed you.â
_____ smiled warmly at him, and for a moment he thought his brains malfunctioned a little.
âDo you know just how much my heart longed for you while I was away?â
âIâm home. I missed you all too.â
Okay, maybe it wasnât just a little.
âCale..? Excuse⌠me..?â
Fuck it all.
How could he do something so stupid as getting his thoughts and speech mixed up?
For a moment Cale wanted to return to Earth 2.
It didnât help that in the corner of his eyes he could see Rosalyn holding a communication device with Alberu on the other side of the line. The mage probably called him after sensing that something interesting was going to happen.
Cale didnât notice the video recording orb on Raonâs hand. If he did he mightâve coughed out blood on the spot.
âCale..? Are you okay?â
_____ walked towards the silent Cale. They touched his forehead to see if he was sick or something. A blush still coating their face from Caleâs unexpected confession.
â...Iâm fine. But for now, letâs talk.â
The redhead drags the healer to one of the empty rooms in the black castle. Behind them, he could hear Beacrox saying heâd start cooking dishes for Choi Han and him.Â
_____ sat on a couch inside the room, waiting for Cale to speak. Their mind was too chaotic from his words to start the conversation.
âI⌠I meanâŚIâm-â
Cale stammers. Itâs so uncharacteristic of him. He never stammers. But he truly doesnât know what to say. Mind too chaotic to let proper words out.
âTake your time. Itâs okay, just say whatever you want to say.â
_____ encourages him while squeezing his hand. It does more bad than good, their bodily warmth making his brain go into even more overdrive. It kind of feels similar to when he overuses Record.
âYou probably could tell already from what I said earlier. I have feelings for you. I adore you.â
He decided to not make any excuses. The cat was already out of the bag, might as well make it roam around the house.
âOh⌠so you doâŚâ
Caleâs heart drops at the response. It sounds as if the healer was deep in thought.
But itâs fine, they donât need to return his feelings. As long as theyâd still be friends Cale is satisfied enough with that.
As long as their happy Cale will be happy.
âThis is a bit comedicâŚâ
_____ started speaking and Cale pushed away his thoughts to listen.
âBack at the Endable Kingdom, I told myself I would let go of my feelings for you. Especially when you were inside that orb. I told myself that I would be satisfied with our current standing.â
Oh
Oh
They felt the same way.
_____ actually feels the same way!
âI didn't expect our feelings to be mutual.â
The healer offered a wobbly smile. One thatâs full of emotions.
âI have feelings for you too. And Iâve had them for a while now.â
Everything at once came crashing down on Cale. The confession being the trigger of it all. He felt a myriad of emotions to the point he wasnât sure what he was feeling anymore.
In spite of everything he had the mind the pull them into a hug. A hug where he conveyed all the feelings he couldnât say out loud. All the love and longing he has felt. All the hesitation and doubt.
He showed it through that hug.
The healer reciprocated it too. Showing all of their unfiltered emotions in the embrace. From their regrets to the abundance of affection they have for Cale. _____ left nothing out.
âCan I kiss you?â
If Cale is allowing his emotions to control the situation, he might as well go all out.
He opened his eyes that he didnât notice he closed to see _____ nodding in approval.
With nothing else to hold him back, Cale leaned in until their lips touched. His eyes closing once they do.
If their hug felt as though a door opened to a field of emotions then this kiss felt like a whole new world.
Their movements are sweet, gentle. As if the other was glass that would break if they moved the wrong way. As if they were a feather that would fly away if the wind blew too hard.
Care and love were poured into the kiss. In fact, it was the only thing they could feel. The longing they felt these past months. Inhibition is now being let go after so longâ concern for the otherâs well-being is showing itself instead.
Such things were being conveyed in a single kiss.
And Cale doesnât want it to end.
But alas, they are merely humans who need air to live. They also have a lot of things to get done.
âDonât frown like that silly. We can continue later. For now, we have a lot of business to take care of.â
_____ laughed at Cale before giving him one last peck on the cheek before opening the door.
Thump!
Crash!
Several people toppled over as the door opened. There was even a communication and a video recording device in the mix.
âAHAHAHAHA! Were you guys trying to listen in? Even the rising sun of our kingdom is trying to gossip.â
Cale felt his mild irritation be washed away at his loverâs laugh.
LoverâŚ
That sounds good.
It sounds really good.
âIs this really something that would pique your interest? Enough to eavesdrop like that?â
âBut it took you long enough human!â
Raonâs chubby paw pointed at him accusingly. As if he was an avid watcher of a romance telenovela and the main couple finally got together.
Cale raised his hands at the toddlerâs action. He didnât know why he was surrendering but it felt appropriate at the moment.
âYoung master, the food has been prepared.â
Ron smiled benignly as if he wasnât one of the people eavesdropping. To his credit, he was doing it stealthily.Â
But still.
âGo eat. As they said you and Choi Han looked a bit skinnier than before. You must eat your fill.â
_____ dragged his hand out of the room. Ignoring the people, and devices, flat on the ground.
Everything was chaotic. From the confession to the situation now. All of it happened suddenly, a bunch of spur-of-the-moment scenarios clustered in one.
However.
Cale and _____ wouldnât change anything even if given the chance.
For this was their family. A mismatched group of people that somehow came together. And they wouldnât trade it for anything else in the world.

What "critics" need to understand is that if somebody isn't fit to write a horror series, it's okay! As a fellow victim of child violence (sexual violence specifically), I felt that Cory's painting and the manor of how he was killed was a wee bit distasteful, but it didn't make wanna drop the series at all. It only really made it more interesting, along with the whole episode of PIGS and all the other disturbing aspects of the series.
It's interesting to know that the killers wont stop at ANYTHING to torture their victims. I love having villain characters who are genuinely bad people but have good development and writing. (Take Bill Collins himself as an example of this!)
What people need to do with series' like this is start reading between the lines a little. They see a painting with "questionable" implications, immediately jump the gun and assume that the creator is a total creep. People act like cases this gruesome don't happen in real life, but they totally can. There was a guy who straight up fed customers "people-burgers" made out of human meat! It truly fascinates me how people can immediately assume that because a creator makes their villain characters pure evil means that the creator is "purging their urges" by doing so, and it's not true.
YOU CAN WRITE VILLAIN CHARACTERS WHO DO INCREDIBLY BAD THINGS !!!
THAT DOES NOT MEAN YOURE A BAD PERSON !!!!!
THIS SERIES IS FICTIONAL !! You can do whatever you want with fiction, if you don't like it, don't look at it! (Don't take this out of context because there's a limit to how far that saying goes. Don't straight up post drawn cp/incest/proship shit and say "errr if u dont like it scroll" you're a fucking idiot and you're not understanding what I'm saying)
Thank you for coming to OUR ted talk
TW:for mentions of S.A.
Also I just wanted to mention I mean no disrespect to anyone with this post. Iâm just expressing my thoughts. If you disagree thatâs totally fine.
Unpopular opinion: I actually really like the painter by urban spook. As a die hard fan of analog horror and horror I found it unsettling. Yes, the names of the portraits and their implications are a distasteful but thatâs the only qualm I have with the series. The art, story and music are really engaging and entertaining. Art is supposed to make one uncomfortable. Horror is supposed to make you uncomfortable thatâs the whole point of the horror genre. As a victim of child violence I can say that being offended by the mentioning and usage of a certain topic does little to nothing. Donât like it? Then donât watch it. You have free will just as urban spook has free will to make his art as graphic as he wants. Do I think heâs a good person? No but Iâm here to analyze the art. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
P.S. have a wonderful day my loves! Take care of yourself!

Like I love to criticize jjk as much as the next person but all these really annoying ppl who are saying the series is bad because characters are dyingâŚâŚ 1. Grow up. 2. Why in fresh fucking hell did you EVER think everyone was gonna make it to the end of this series
#I 100% get having issues with HOW characters died#like Iâm still pissed about everything regarding yukiâs death#and while I wanted Gojo to die I also wasnât satisfied with the death we got#but likeâŚ. to act like the series is bad BECAUSE these characters are dying and not HOW theyâre dying#how are you missing the series core themesâŚ..#how are you missing that the point was that everyone was gonna die#like either yuuji was gonna die to solidify that Gojo and megumi failed#or Gojo and megumi were gonna die so yuuji is cursed to living knowing HE failed#like I just always acknowledged???? that was the direction the series was going?????#so to see people get GENUINELY PISSED that characters are dying and yuuji will almost certainly end the series unhappyâŚ.#like I do not know how to tell you that was always gonna be the pointâŚ..#and if you thought the series was meant to have an overly happy ending you were NOT paying close enough attention#like itâs not a happy story? it hasnât been at any point?#why would it END happy it would feel so out of place?#idk itâs just confusing to me#like by all means criticize it the series fucking needs it#but you are complaining about the wrong fucking things#idk this also might be my thing where if ppl genuinely get so attached to characters that you get unreasonably angry when they die#and canât ackowledge that sometimes it makes more sense narratively for them to die#to the point where you like throw fucking fits about itâŚ.#I dunnoâŚ.. I think you just need to take a step back#or at least know yourself well enough to not get into media where itâs obvious characters are gonna drop like flies đ¤ˇđźââď¸#like I get major character death isnât for everyone and thatâs fine#but if it viscerally upsets you to that point#yeahâŚ. yeah I think you need to take it upon yourself to avoid stories that are obviously gonna contain it like idk#kaz rambles

if one more person tries to claim that the oh hellos are no longer christian i am going to lose my shit
#they are no longer EVANGELICAL and they don't associate themselves with the organized church#but like ... the whole anemoi series is about deconstructing their faith and coming back around to a new faith? still in god??#they don't just use christian themes. they are christian. if u think that they are NOT christian then u are not understanding their music#like .. i am not religious so this isn't coming from a place of needing them to be recognized as gospel music#if u want to interpret their music differently then go ahead!!!#but straight up. we KNOW what those albums are about because they have TOLD us. & they're deeply intertwined with tyler and maggie's faith#going around spreading the idea that they aren't christian at all is so so so so so so fucking stupid#it's fine if u don't want to think the songs are about christianity but then don't pretend u know what they mean!!!!!#don't pretend u understand all the albums while claiming they're not christian because they ARE!! that's like the whole point!!!!#idk. whatever. just feeling some type of way about people like refusing to use absolutely any critical thought#yes the oh hellos are extremely progressive. no they are not evangelical. yes they try to be subtle about their faith & make music that#non-christians can also listen to & relate deeply to#but making up lies about their personal lives is like. ok whatever. but ur missing the whole point of the albums then. don't pretend ur not#please someone tell me they understand what i'm trying to say here#like this isn't coming from a christian perspective it's coming from a frustrated album-listener perspective#the oh hellos

I have so many thoughts about Mobius, I absolutely HATE the way he treats Loki in various moments of s1, the way he tries to manipulate him and use him for the tva's mission, and he has the audacity to feel betrayed by Loki when he runs after sylvie and leaves him behind in s1e2???
Sir you KIDNAPPED LOKI AND ERASED HIS ENTIRE REALITY, MENTALLY TORTURED HIM WITH FOOTAGE FROM HIS TRAGIC FUTURE, COERCED HIM INTO WORKING FOR YOU UNDER THE THREAT OF BEING ERASED FROM REALITY IF HE DIDN'T COMPLY AND YOU REALLY THINK YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE MAD AT HIM FOR TRYING TO ESCAPE???
What he does after is even worse, I could NEVER accept him putting Loki into a torture loop to be kicked in the balls and to hear Sif telling him that he deserves to be alone and he always will be, the worse part imo is that a lot of lokius fans seem to think this is cute and a show of Mobius's feelings towards Loki, what the hell???
First off he doesn't have the right to be mad at Loki, second, torturing someone like that is absolutely fucking VILE and I don't care that people think it's cute or funny
BUT
I blame those disgusting actions more on the directing of s1 who was very keen in humiliating Loki at any given moment than in the character of Mobius itself, I ADORE Mobius in s2 bc he is sweet, caring and understanding of Loki, he truly is a good friend and I love their dynamic in it, I don't know what Kate Herron had against Loki but she truly tried her best to diminish and humiliate him whenever she could, every character is annoyed by Loki in s1 and he's treated like a fucking idiot, thankfully that was changed in s2 and he was finally treated with respect and dignity
Btw I should say that I appreciate lokius very much and I think they're cute together but pls stop with the crap, Mobius's "jealousy" isn't cute or funny, he literally abuses Loki just bc he can and Loki never gets a proper apology for that, Mobius apologizes to sylvie but never to Loki (KH when I find you...), again I blame this on the directing and writing of s1 and I don't think s2 Mobius would've done all that to Loki bc he's a different character in it
#loki#loki series#loki meta#mobius#mobius m mobius#loki season 2#anti loki season 1#loki season 1 negativity#pls stop sugarcoating Mobius's awful treatment of Loki in s1#he is a different character in s2 and I fucking stand by it#Loki s2 healed all my wounds caused by that fucking awful s1#We saw Mobius calming Loki down from his anxiety attack and it was adorable#Mobius truly is a good friend for Loki in s2#but that doesn't mean we should just forget how much he hurt Loki in s1#again I blame this on s1's shitty directing and writing#i really needed to get this off my chest#the Loki fandom can be fucking exhausting sometimes#bc if you criticize a character's shitty actions that means you're a hater somehow?#like grow the fuck up#Mobius is not some untouchable little angel#that doesn't mean I hate him#just learn to separate things#I came here to say this bc I know some of his annoying stans would riot if I said that on twitter#I fucking hate the twitter Loki fandom btw#bunch of annoying ass people#both the sylkis and the lokius#some of the lokius fans there are pretty chill tho#I don't hate them all#but I can't help but feel that ship wars ruined the fandom#like wtf neither ships are canon now what the hell are y'all still yapping about

i feel like this season of h/dm has gotten considerably worse but also i'm not 100% sure i'm remembering the previous seasons correctly. i remember mostly liking them and just finding some things weird. but maybe it was just as bad as this season and the amount of time that's passed since i watched them has simply made me forget how much stuff i didn't like
#i think i'm pretty fucking easy to please with tv shows too like i don't have a very critical eye for this kinda stuff#but maybe it's because it's a book adaptation and as always we gotta feel strongly about those#i just feel like the dialogue is absolute shit like who is even writing this - did it change? maybe it was always shit idk#and just random plot changes that i hate#some big some small but like#why was lyra the only fucking one experiencing pain on the boat!!!! that's straight up not canon and literally makes no sense w/in canon#and we got our first glimpse of atal and there was zero indication that she uses a wheel#it didn't even look like she could i mean she had four normal hooves#the seeds are so important to the story what are they doing with this!!!!#maybe we'll see them using wheels next episode but idk how#idk the acting is still mostly good imo#i feel like the actors are doing their best with very fucking stupid scenes#anyway all of this is just sorta making me feel like maybe this just isn't an adaptable book series#at least not as a tv show where you have to stretch things out so much so they're just inventing bullshit to fill the gaps#hdm lb#i hadn't really wanted to make a tag for this but#there have already been so many things i've wanted to complain about here and i'm sure it will only continue#so ya know blacklist as needed (esp if you're enjoying the show - i'm so sorry i don't want to ruin ur experience)#edit: OH i forgot to complain about costuming/makeup too!!!#shouldn't be a big issue but god it's also (imo) just hot fucking garbage in this season#did they get the non-unionized people??? overworked and underpaid??#did they have zero budget for this fucking hbo show???#i feel like they didn't even fucking try#those ugly orange jumpsuits and the horrible makeup for the angels#okay sorry i will stop complaining now (until there's more episodes next week lmao)

The thing is, D&D is not a game.
I know that sounds insane, but hear me out: D&D is not a game, it is a games console. You don't actually "play D&D." You play "Dragon Heist" or "Tomb of Annihilation" or "Ghosts of Saltmarsh" or "your GM's homebrew campaign" or "the plot of Critical Role Season 1 reconstructed from memory" on D&D.
For quite a long while now - possibly literal decades - D&D hasn't even been the best games console, but it's been "the one everyone knows about" and "the one my friends have" and in fact it's "the one whose name is almost synonymous with the entire medium of TTRPGs," like how "Nintendo" or "Playstation" could just mean "games console" to people who didn't understand games consoles. They might not have heard of a "tabletop roleplaying game," but most people have heard of "Dungeons & Dragons."
For this extended metaphor, D&D is Nintendo back in the 90s, or Playstation in the 2000s. Sometimes you say "oh let's go to my house and play Nintendo" or "c'mon dude I wanna play Playstation" but you're not actually playing Nintendo or Playstation, you're playing Resident Evil or Super Mario Bros or Jurassic Park or Metal Gear Solid or whatever on a Nintendo or a Playstation.
Now, this metaphor is going to get even more tortured, but remember how when the PS2 and the original X-Box came out, they used a standardised DVD format, but the Nintendo console in that generation, the Gamecube, used discs but they were this proprietary tiny little disc format that they had control over? That essentially meant that it was really difficult to make third party titles for the Gamecube that did literally anything that Nintendo didn't want them to do, and also essentially gave Nintendo an even greater ability to skim money off the top of any sales?
So that must've seemed like a smart business decision in their heads. But the PS2 and the X-Box used DVDs. This was a standardized format which gave Microsoft and Sony way less control over who made games for their consoles, but that actually turned out to be a good thing for gaming, because it meant that the breadth of games that you could play on their consoles was massively increased even if some of them were games Microsoft and Sony didn't really approve of. (Also it's worth nothing that the PS2 and the X-Box could just play DVDs, which meant if your household was on a budget, you didn't need a separate DVD player - your games console could do it for you! This was actually a huge selling point!)
What Wizards are currently trying to do now is kinda-sorta the equivalent of Sony suddenly announcing that the PS5 will only accept a proprietary cartridge format they hold the patent on, will control the content of and charge money for the construction of. This possibly seems like it could be a moneymaker in your head because you hold market dominance (apparently the PS5 has 30 million units shipped compared to X-Box Series X 20 million units) and so many people make games for your console, but what it actually means is game devs and publishers will abandon your product. If it takes so much more work, the scope of what they're allowed to do is so much more limited and they're going to make less money off of it, they just won't bother. They'll go make games for the X-Box or PC instead.
To use another computer metaphor, D&D is Windows - it might not be the best system but it's the system most people are familiar with and so it gets the most stuff made for it, but there's is an upper limit on the bullshit people will take before they decide fuck it and get an Apple or learn how Linux works.
TTRPG systems are a weird product because you're not selling people a game, you're selling people a method to play a game. All the actual games are created by the community - even prewritten campaigns needs to be executed via a game master. Trying to skim money off the community will mean they'll eventually give up on you.

One thing I like about Top Gun (1986) is how believable the development with Ice and Mav's dynamic is.
I've seen a lot of the "Rivals suddenly become buddies after traumatic event together" in media, but I don't think I've seen it done better than in Top Gun. Mostly, I attribute it to how much build up it has.
Most of the time, the 'Rivals' hate each others guts throughout the entire movie/series and then they go through an extremely traumatic event that binds them for life and shifts their entire concept of each other. Ice and Mav never once changed how they saw each other, it just changed their understanding of it.
Ice saw Maverick as dangerous and Mav saw Iceman as stuck-up and commanding. And they weren't wrong, by any means.
From the beginning, they have tension between them because of how different they are. And it ends up in the audience seeing Ice as the 'Antagonist' because that's how Mav sees it, and we're seeing it from his perspective as the protagonist. But Ice was never inherently wrong, in fact he was right.
Other than his first scene, Iceman always has a point in what he's saying. He's criticizing Mav, not insulting him. Sure, he does it in a brash way because masculinity, but he's not trying to insult him, he's trying to knock him down a peg and wake him up to reality. All Ice wants is that he starts to act as a team player, start caring about everybody's safety AND his own, rather than being reckless for the sake of being reckless. But Mav sees it as an insult because he can't process criticism in a healthy way (due to how he grew up). The same thing happened with Charlie, for the record.
And so the strife between the two begins. What I like about it is how it bleeds out of them over time, becoming more settled as the movie goes on. In the locker room "You're dangerous" scene, the tension is palpable. It's obvious they're agitated by each other, and feel the need to prove they're the correct one.
If you pay attention, this whole... demand for superiority goes away as time progresses. They're fine with each other's presence, it's not like they're constantly at each others throat all the time. In the shower scene, Ice dropped all of the aggression and competitiveness from his tone and is instead just laying out what he thinks. He's not undermining Maverick, he's not lecturing him like a child. Iceman is just telling Maverick exactly how he sees the situation in hopes that it would make him realize what the fuck he's doing, but with little hope that it'll actually work.
That doesn't mean Ice is always correct either, he doesn't understand why Mav acts the way he does, thus fails to take into consideration the emotional trauma behind it. Which only causes even more strife.
The entire time, Iceman isn't being a dick for the sake of it, he just wants Mav to stop being stupid (by his standards). And Maverick doesn't understand it because all he gets from what Ice says is insults.
Maverick isn't good at understanding what people mean to say if it's implied, you need to say it to his face. This is the reason he stayed quiet in the shower scene, because Ice finally laid everything out in simple words that he can understand without making it sound like a dick-measuring contest.
Thing is, the tension mellows out. At the beginning, you could see the tension and cut it with a knife. By the middle you can see them getting used to each other without jumping to constantly trade jabs (namely: the volleyball scene, it's just a bunch of guys being dudes, and the scene where Charlie says that Mav flew recklessly in front of the whole class, Ice doesn't comment on it in any way). Over time, they've settled down into their tension without needing to address it all the time.
Then Goose dies.
And the tension between them is still there.
Just because Goose isn't there anymore, doesn't mean their whole dynamic vanishes all of a sudden. You can see their hesitation towards each other (especially Ice), and that's great! It demonstrates that Goose dying doesn't magically resolve their problems with each other in solidarity.
Ice tried to give his consolations to Mav, and is awfully awkward about it. You can see on his face that he wants to say more, but doesn't because he knows it's not his place given their history. And not much is said, but a lot it communicated. (Val Kilmer is a killer actor for this, OH MY FUCKING GOD BLESS THAT MAN)
Even in the graduation scene you can see how out of their depts they really are with each other. A stilted congratulations, that was it. But they're trying, and that's what matters.
A scene I think gets overlooked a lot is the scene right before the Layton, where Ice expressed his worries about Mav to Stinger, and Mav heard him. Because I feel like that was a shift that was more drastic than the Layton itself for them.
What Ice was doing in that scene wasn't doubting Maverick's flying abilities, it was his mental health. Sure, he passed the psych eval, but that means next to jack shit when in a real combat situation so close after his backseater dying. And Ice might be worried that he's gonna be left hanging, but with the way he was speaking I'm more inclined to believe he was more worried about Maverick's wellbeing than himself. Ice almost looked resigned. He knew it was gonna get dismissed because that's the military for you, but he still wanted to try to vouch for Mav to stay groundside, if only to keep his mind at bay.
But Maverick heard him, and as usual, he read it as an insult. He wasn't wrong to assume Ice didn't believe him capable of flying the mission, which wouldn't be a lie, but failed to realize that he had more than one reason to want Maverick on the ground rather than in the air. And for the first time, Maverick believes him.
Up until this point, Mav dismissed all of Ice's so called 'insults' because he was certain in and of himself. But now he isn't anymore.
And it affects his performance in the air. I'm not saying he was as shitty as he was at the start of that combat because of what he overheard, but I am saying that it certainly didn't help matters in the slightest.
So their weird 'stepping-on-eggshells' situation is all over the place by that point. Because they started to care about each other despite not being what one would call proper friends yet. It's establishing a potential friendship by implying that 1. Ice cares about Mav's wellbeing and 2. Mav cares about what Ice thinks.
On the ground, they have the wingman exchange, and their suddenly buddy buddy. Thing is, it wasn't sudden at all.
They've been setting this up the entire fucking movie.
Going back to what I said at the beginning: Ice thinks Mav is dangerous and Mav thinks Ice is stuck-up and controlling. After the Layton, they still think those things because they weren't wrong to begin with. What changed was that instead of seeing it as something that pitted them against each other, it was seen as something that simply was about the other, and that there was no changing it. It could be good.
Mav being dangerous could be good and Ice being stuck-up and controlling could be good, because those were just traits of who they were. By the end of the movie they didn't change how they saw each other, just how they interpreted each other.
And it was built up during the entire fucking movie.
There was a reason to why they acted the way they did with each other because of the stilted interpretation they had of each other. From rivalry to friendship (and perhaps more later down the line), it's glaringly obvious throughout that it wasn't a sudden shift, it was exponential.
That's why I think it was so well developed, because you could see it coming.

i see you - a series | ln x she.
Pairing: lando x she. Summary: a little post race comfort for our favourite papapya boy. lando norris we love you. part 2 here. Word Count: 1.1k A.N: just a little comfort fic, lando being lando
he'd had a bad race. there was no denying that. there were strategies that could have been cleaner and places that pace could have been picked up sure, but at the end of the day lando had had a bad race. everyone at the team knew that and there was going to be no one else that knew it more than lando. she was already waiting for the comments that came on social media and the flood of criticism for the man that she loved. it would be worth removing the apps from her phone for the next couple of weeks and she would encourage lando to do the same as soon as she got a hold of him too.
kicking about a bottle she had dropped she paced back and forth across the tiny space that lando called a driver room as she waited for him, her mind racing through each possibility over how his interviews would go and what state the press would send him back to her in. if he got through them fine he would have to get through debriefs where oscar was once again was celebrated more than he was and she could only pray that he didn't beat himself too much over the fact he was below oscar again.
hearing the door her head flew to the entrance way, her heart sinking as she caught sight of the sad smile that covered her loves face. this fucking sport, she knew that he loved it and he wouldn't give up racing till someone pried that car from his dead cold hands if he could help it but every day she was ready to whisk him away from it all and never let any of them near him again. grown man or not, she was sick of the toll each result took on him.
moving without saying anything lando didn't even have the energy to be pissed at himself as he wrapped his arms around her and tumbled them both onto the small excuse for a bed that they had shared on more than one occasion. right here, this was his happy place. this right here, made the rest of it seem like it was all nonsense.
"i drove like shit." he spoke into the quiet after a while, fingers tracing slowly up and down her spine as he finally looked down at her face, dreading seeing any signs of disappointment from her. he could take it from a lot of people, but not from her. she wasn't sure what he was looking for on her face, all she had to offer him was unfiltered adoration. "you didn't drive your best, that doesn't mean it was shit." she confirmed because she wouldn't lie to him. they both knew that he'd had a rough weekend and for all the smiles he had managed to muster this morning, he hadn't felt right since the hungary grand prix and she knew that he needed the summer break to shake it off. "it doesn't matter, i let him take another two points in the lead and i just....wins mean everything now and what if they're right, what if i'm a fraud and miami was nothing?"
"lan." she sighed into the room wondering if it was well poised questions or his own self deprecation habit that had gotten to him this time. "you've had a competitive car since miami, that's it, you're learning more and more each time you go out you know you are and you're human, shitty weekends happen they're going to happen again and you're going to deal with them. you're 24, you've got seasons ahead of you."
"oscar was ahead of me again. he's on his second season and he's already as good as me, what next year they're gunna make me driver two?"
"oscar was ahead for the last two races, he's a good driver but that doesn't take away from the fact you're an amazing driver, you're fighting with the greatest drivers. you can't control what's coming my love, all you can do is control how you react to what you have in the moment and make sure you're in the strongest position you can be in driving wise."
"i'm just...i'm tired of having to have excuses now, what if we come back and i'm still shit?"
"it's summer break now, let's worry about that when we're back, we will talk to zak and we'll no doubt have a million back and forths with jon." she hummed as she pressed a soft kiss to his forehead. "the next two weeks though? we're going to be lounging on the beaches and eating all the good food...i might even try some sushi, a little salmon." she smirked as she looked up at him, her boyfriends face immediately pulling into a grimace that made her laugh. "baby, that's disgusting! if you don't want to spend summer break with me just say it." lando groaned as he buried his face in the crook of her next with a small groan as he rolled on top of her fully. she would have complained about the smell currently rolling from him and his suit if she didn't know how much he needed this.
"oh please, you know i can't wait to spend two weeks with you and your boyfriend." she was all too happy to continue to taunt him, earning a scoff from lando despite the fact they would be spending a great amount of time with martin but she didn't mind that either, he was another person in landos life that made him happy and she would follow them around and keep them out of whatever trouble they got into if it meant she'd have her love back to himself some what. that was life with lando, she wasn't just going to stick around and deal with the fun parts and the glamour, she was here for all the anxiety and the self doubt that crept in too.
with the silence around them again she looked down to find lando's eyes closed where he still rested on her and she let her fingers find their way into his curls that were far more unruly than when he'd put his helmet on today. typical lando, leave him in one spot for more than thirty seconds and he was going to fall asleep. her need to pee and regain feeling in her left leg would wait till he'd had a decent amount or rest or someone came to interrupt them, whichever came first. if someone dared to interrupt them she might not be so nice about it. with her own stiffed yawn she let her own eyes fall closed as lando nuzzled himself in even further and she could hear the deep breaths that meant he was out for the count. "i love you lando norris, so damn much."

Megumi Rant bc I'm So Tired
I was gonna talk about 271 and the ending chapters of JJK in general, specifically focusing on how Shonen Jump puts a hard end date on each series it publishes (which are based on conversations with the mangakas, sure, but with no leeway once itâs determined because SJ wants to keep cycling through new publications in order to keep making money - and those hard line end dates cannot possibly account for, say, sudden illness that would prevent a mangaka from releasing a chapter) and how itâs the best end to the series that many fans could have asked for given that info, but Iâm tired and I donât feel like yelling at a wall, so hereâs a rebuttal aimed at a lot of Megumi hot takes⢠Iâve seen since, really, 269 dropped.
Obligatory thing up front bc I know the JJK fandom hates reading and critical thought more than anything in the world, and that it operates on a very "but what about me" mentality: It's totally fine if you are dissatisfied with JJK in general or even just the ending. It's totally fine if you have mixed feelings about the way the story was wrapped up. It's totally fine if you think it could have been handled better even given the above information in the link above on how SJ operates. I'm not telling you to feel a certain way, but I'm walking you through the end of the story (read: Megumi's character specifically) bc I am so fucking tired of reading bad takes about "Gege hating Megumi" or whatever.
Holding everyone's hands as I go through these. Let's take these steps in shedding directionless rage together.
(Forewarning that this is long as hell. Gomen.)
Common Argument Number 1: Megumi didnât have a character arc/didn't grow as a character
The first thing that needs to be understood to realize why this is wrong is that all of the characters in JJK have arcs based around power - gaining it, losing it, being overwhelmed by it, and so on. This is not new information as of the last few chapters; we've known for years now that JJK isn't a story that's focused on deep introspection nor prolonged emotional development. Power. Cursed Techniques. That's where Gege kept his focus. However, it's impossible to write a story with heavy themes of loss and fear and love without touching into a character's emotions at all, some of which become central enough to turn into arcs. (We'll circle back to this in just a moment.) The second thing that needs to be understood here is that, in the general sense of All Media (and not just JJK), not all character arcs have to span the entire length of a story. A full and complete character arc (which is to say, the movement that happens while a character is actively changing) can happen in half of a story or less, and it is no less satisfying for having done so. Now, what does all of that have to do with Megumi? Very explicitly, it means that Megumi not only experiences growth as a character, but that he also goes through not one, but two character arcs. ((He's not the only character with two arcs, but he's the reason for this post, so you guys can track down the others on your own.)) Both of his arcs are complete, in my opinion, even if they're not 100% satisfying. But satisfaction isn't the argument here, so we can touch on that later. Maybe. Megumi's first arc (his power arc) starts right out of the gate, but it doesn't begin to take shape until the chapters at the detention center (I would argue it specifically starts to become an "arc" [which is to say, experiences movement] right at the point where Yuuji dies - this is the inciting incident in Megumi's story), and it concludes during the Culling Games (the exact place of it's conclusion is a little waffle-y for me but it's between either the moment he is able to use his technique to beat someone solo within the depths of his shadows OR the exact moment that Sukuna looks at him and thinks that he's strong enough now to be Sukuna's vessel). This arc follows Megumi coming to terms with the reality that if he wants to save people, he needs to get stronger and he needs to get more in touch with the side of himself that is/creates his CT. And he accomplishes that. Is there more growth in this department that he could have had? Yes, absolutely. Taming Mahoraga, a fully realized domain expansion, etc. All of that could have happened, but none of that needs to happen in order for this arc to be complete. He sought power, he got power, and he used it to save people. That's a fully realized and completed arc. Megumi's second arc (his emotional arc) happens during the time Sukuna is wearing him like a suit. This arc has nothing at all to do with anything that happens before this point in time (it has nothing to do with power, nothing to do with fighting, nothing to do with saving people). Before this, Megumi's emotional state is fairly stagnant; any goals and/or momentum that he has outside of wanting to become stronger are usually skipped over or not acknowledged at all. Once his bodily autonomy is stripped from him, all that's left is emotion. And we get to see a complete emotional arc here - starting in stagnation, inciting incident of being possessed, and then the slow chipping away of his resolve as Sukuna kills his sister and performs a ritual to suppress Megumi's soul completely. Megumi is at his lowest point here, but he overcomes it and chooses to live. That's a complete arc. That's a conclusion. No amount of wanting him to mourn Gojo or of wishing for This, That, or The Other things change the fact that his arcs do in fact reach natural conclusions within the story.
Common Argument Number 2: Megumi didn't have a satisfying conclusion
I think this argument is a bit of a pull from a misunderstanding that revolves around argument number one. People are looking for an arc that is wrapping up in the final chapters, and they're upset that they're not finding it. And the reason they're not finding it is because, as mentioned above, Megumi's arcs concluded before he regained consciousness post-Shinjuku. Also, this may come as a shock to some people, but "satisfying" is relative. Which also means that I can't exactly argue against what people are feeling, because in this specific instance, it's all feelings based. But that doesn't mean I'm not going to try!! I already covered that Megumi fully concluded both of his arcs, so it's not that he's lacking in power or emotional development. I think what people get stuck on is what Megumi says before he begins to fight back against Sukuna: that he wants to try to live for someone else. A lot of readers seem to take this as a step backwards for him, a return to who he was before everything in the story, but I disagree. I think it's actually a large step forward for him and, beyond that, I think it's realistic beyond simply satisfying the narrative. At the beginning of the story, Megumi is living for nothing. It's common for the fandom to think he's living for Tsumiki, but she's fully comatose and cursed; I doubt that he's living for her. At most he's living just in case a miracle happens and she wakes up, but that's not living for her. He's in what I think of as a transitional space, and he's stuck there. He's the only one in his year at Jujutsu Tech, he's not trying to develop his CT, he's just existing - going on missions and rolling his eyes at Gojo and doing school work. At the end of the story, Megumi actively chooses life. He had a way out, he felt that in many ways he was already dead - or at the very least, that he was irredeemable and better off dead. But he chooses to live. He chooses to fight back. And, more than that, he chooses to become an active participant in life. Yes, for him that means living for Yuuji, but even that still requires wanting to keep going, wanting to keep putting one foot in front of the other. He wants to face the world and all it has to offer - despite all the bad, and maybe in spite everything he went through. That's a satisfying character conclusion in my eyes. Everyone wants realistic representation of the struggle surrounding mental illness and how victories with them are not as "grand" as for neurotypical people until they're actually presented with realistic representation. Then all of a sudden it's "bad writing" and "unsatisfying" because the character didn't end the story without any gaps or holes and with a perfect little bow wrapped around their neck. God forbid there be an implication that a character gets to continue to live and grow beyond the last page. Anyway, just because he didn't have the conclusion you wanted for him that you built up in your head after years of living with the fanon version of Megumi you created doesn't mean his conclusion was bad or unsatisfying.
Common Argument Number 3: Megumi's characterization went right back to how it was during the Culling Game arc
...Duh??? I mean... where else was his personality and his behavior supposed to go? He spent a month completely suppressed by Sukuna. The only thing he was going to do without intervention is regress, not progress. What happened to Megumi when Yuuji reached out to him was him coming back to himself - and the only "himself" he had in recent memory was who he was immediately before Sukuna took over. Character progression cannot happen in stagnation, and stagnation is all Megumi had while he was suppressed in the bathâ˘. Expecting any of that to change him for the better or to push him in any "forward" momentum is, quite honestly, ridiculous. The only direction Megumi could have gone is backwards, and he is (which means also we are) just lucky that he was able to be dragged into the version of himself that had already grown and that was waiting for his return.
Common Argument Number 4: Megumi didn't do anything during the fight against Sukuna
What gets me about this stance is that it seems to be the only one shared between the "shonen bros" who only read manga for the fight scenes and the hardcore Megumi stans who wish so desperately that he was the main character of the series. But like... what do you want him to do, here, exactly? Somehow find within himself the urge to get up and fight what seems to be a losing battle after watching his own hands kill not only his sister but the most prominent adult figure in his life? Resist all on his own (with no prior arc moments to support it) whatever mystical magical bs makes the bath⢠work in keeping his soul suppressed? Do you want a good and well-structured character arc with logical emotional weight, or do you just want your favorite character to defeat a villain that is not "his" villain? I'll wait. Megumi's struggles during this story arc are internal, and his inability to fight is reflective of that. If he were to be resisting against Sukuna the whole time - trying to wrest control of his CT back or attempting to attack Sukuna's soul himself - then we would still be sitting in his power arc during this time. Megumi's inaction is physical representation of the inner turmoil and struggle that he was in during the fight, and I don't think that's very hard to understand. He is fighting; it's just that he's fighting himself. And he wins that fight. And he does do something in the fight against Sukuna. I firmly believe that Megumi choosing to live sealed the deal on Sukuna's death. Why else would Sukuna have been panicking so hard and doing everything he could to keep Megumi depressed and stuck in the ruts of his mind? If Megumi hadn't chosen life, hadn't decided he wanted to keep fighting in that moment, Sukuna would still be kicking. I don't think it's a stretch, actually, to say that Megumi delivered the blow that weakened Sukuna to Yuuji's kill shot. Megumi was integral to the fight - he just needed to go through his emotional arc first.
I'm sure I'm missing things, I'm sure I forgot things. But this isn't college and I'm not writing for a grade. What I am is tired of both Megumi hate and Gege hate. Megumi is a well-written character who is good representation of depression (at minimum), and who is also not the fucking main character. Like, I'm sorry that the character you project your mental illness onto acts mentally ill, and I'm sorry your favorite character is a side character who is written like a side character. These things tend to happen.
Yes, obviously, more could have been done with him and the wrapping of his character (and all of the characters) if the ending wasn't rushed, but that's not Gege's fault. Blame capitalism if you want to point fingers. JJK isn't the first manga with a rushed ending for exactly that reason, and it won't be the last.
Okay, I have to force myself to stop talking or we'll be here forever but:
The ending of JJK is not "bad writing," it's the best outcome that could have happened given the time constraints and publication constraints.
I agree that it would have been nice to see acknowledgements from the characters of the trauma they went through, but also I think that those things realistically take time. I don't think it's unreasonable that their first instinct would be to pretend that everything is normal for as long as they can. However, Megumi was not handled poorly, and he was not abandoned by Gege, and Gege does not hate him. He was well-written start to finish, and he was given a lovely ending that leaves his future wide open for possibilities.
Take a deep breath and stop trying to be the loudest voice in the room. Look at the text and supplement it with reality and the hard truths of a really shitty work culture, and understand that being upset is valid, but it's not valid enough to justify seething hatred for a mangaka whose entire work you probably read for free <3
#jjk#jjk manga spoilers#jjk spoilers#jjk meta#fushiguro megumi#argue with a wall i'm so tired of reading incorrect and irrational emotionally driven takes that are presented as deep literary analysis#everyone is so fucking loud about how much they 'hate gege' and i don't think it's a funny bit anymore i think you fuckers r serious#anyway i love megumi. so much. and none of y'all give him the respect he deserves#it's 2am and i'm tired so take this as it is <3

high school slasher!kennedy x reader
you and leon in your senior year of a boarding high school, he finally goes insane in his final years, killing everyone who's horribly wronged him in this fucked, secret elite society establishment, a manipulator who's completely unhinged and needs you, but you find out.
this is a snippet of something im working on as a series, but i may not finish, enjoy this SPICY sample though, tell me what you think, PLEASE. and yandere undertones ofc.
Tough fingers gripped over your mouth, body forcing you into the wall while his eyes pierce yours, centimetres apart. Your quick breath blows onto his hands through your mouth and he can see the fear in your eyes. The knife is still in his left hand but he still looks as calm as he always is. Your blood is cold as itâs ice spreads and freezes your limbs, feeling the tears well up on your waterline.
Slowly, he leans up. Pressing a kiss against your forehead, mouth leading back to the side of your ear.Â
âYou shouldnât have done that.â He whispers, his knifed hand pushing up your shirt, the blade gently dragging down. âDonât disappoint me, sweetheart. Donât scream.â He says, smiling warningly as the pressure from your mouth is relieved. You shut your eyes tightly, tilting your head up away from him, the first tear dripping from your face.Â
âI trusted you.â Your voice shakes, expecting the sharp pain to meet your rib, his hand gently wipes your cheek.Â
âI was never going to hurt you.â
âSo what were you using me for then? As an alibi? Were you going to kill me last?âÂ
âYouâre one of the only real people in this school, why would I throw that away?â
âI-â
âYou like me donât you?â He cuts off, Leon Kennedy is nothing but a manipulator, and you know youâre just as fucking stupid to fall for it again. Why are you even letting him open his mouth? Whatever comes out is a lie, a part of a his plan.Â
âI donât even know who you are.â He pushes you, and you fall back onto his bed, just like last night. His hands push up against your wrist, grabbing your hands, just like last night. The same butterflies hit your stomach, but itâs worse, itâs mixed with the nausea of it being a serial killer, the nausea of not knowing whatâs happening, or whatâs happening next. Fuck.Â
You turn your head away from him, tears still coming down your cheeks as your face is flushed red.Â
âThis. Was real.â He breathes as his nose drags up your neck. âYou know it was⌠So why, did you have to ruin everything?â He says, pressing his lips to your earlobe. âIt doesnât have to stop, I know you still want this. Who I am makes you want it more⌠I know you, Y/n.âÂ
âI didnât know you were a fucking psychopath.â You whispered, even if he is right, you donât want to accept it. âWhy are you doing this to people?â
âYou remember what I told you?â
âJust because these people are bad it doesnât mean they deserve to die. Theyâre school children.â He laughed at your response.Â
âThe ones Iâve taken are 18, well over the age to think critically. These people donât change, Y/n. Donât you understand that yet? The headmaster, the staff, the student society. They were all here once, they leave, and they hurt people, every, single, time. Every single one. Iâm not letting them hurt me again. Not me, not anyone else. Theyâll be an example to the younger years.â
âBut-â
âTheyâve killed people. Whatâs so wrong with a taste of their own medicine? Donât you think they deserve it after what theyâve done to me? Did I deserve to have my family bankrupted and killed?â His grip tightens considerably, your wrists aching, and more tears prick your eyes. Heâs right, again. But this doesnât feel right. âDid I?â He presses.Â
You hesitate. âYou didnât.â
âWhat else could I have done?â He says, his face is as desperate as his voice, begging to be forgiven. His hands sliver up to your hands, holding them tightly, still keeping you down. Your heart hurts for him, what happens next you couldnât stop yourself from doing, it was instinctual.Â
âItâs okay, Leon. Calm down.â
âYou understand me, right? They killed my family. I was 5.â The mention of his parents sets him off more, his face drops into your neck, letting go of your hands and wrapping them around your body. Heâs shaking, his tears are wetting you, both sharing trembling breaths.Â
âI⌠I understand⌠Leon, everything is okay. I understand.â You wrap your arms around him, rubbing his back.
âFuck. I hate them, they donât deserve anything.â
âItâs okay.â
âAnd to think you joined, the most perfect girl in the world. They couldâve hurt you. They wouldâve hurt someone as sweet and quiet as you.â

I just saw the worst takes about bnhaâs ending on Instagram (three days ago now, as of posting this). So, today weâre gonna talk about Izuocha, shonen homoeroticism, and fandom⌠not in that order thoughâŚ
I: Fandom
Fandom culture for all media has basically always been a war zone that you have to actively avoid, usually with two defining sides: people who try to enjoy media the way they want to enjoy it, and the people who say that everyone is wrong and attack others who they donât agree with. There are shades of gray on both sides, but in general this is usually the case. Itâs never been ââalphabet mafiaâ vs ânormalââ or âfanon vs canonâ or âright vs wrongâ⌠I almost always see people having fun being attacked unwarranted (I am not saying that people being legitimately problematic shouldnât be called out, pls donât get me wrong. Iâm talking about innocent fun!). And Iâm not just talking about dudebros attacking shippers, Iâve seen a lot of shippers attack non-shippers/other shippers of a different ship, and itâs almost always people just saying âyouâre wrong, Iâm right, and your take ruins this media piece of media for everyone else.â That being said, I wanna talk about the highlighted parts of these comments, okay? But first I need to explain the video that these comments were on.
It was a video by @/d_rich7 on Instagram, a big anime creator, talking about this tweet:
To summarize the video, he went on to say that heâs not surprised because bnha has the worst shipping community since Naruto and how Horikoshi probably felt forced into not confirming any ships because of âthreats and hate mailâ that he got from his fandom. Iâll come back to that but first Iâll talk about some of the comments:
âAt least, they can say they werenât the reason for the downfall of their anime.â
I've seen this take from different parts of the fandom, whether it was in regard to ships, todofam, or the villains. Just because the narrative of a story ends up matching the theories of people you disagree with, doesn't mean the story is going through a downfall. Just accept that you were wrong and move on. It is okay to not like certain aspects of the story and it's okay to discuss and criticize it, but pinning the blame on people who just happened to be right, no matter how much you hate it, is not okay.
âPeople need to stop demanding the literal CREATOR of a series to do things how they want it doneâŚThey to learn itâs not their story to tellâŚâ
ââŚlike I donât get how people who have no impact on the writing of a story get mad because the CREATORS donât wanna use their personal ideas.â
ââŚfrom now on imma blame the fandom for fucking up the anime/manga, we couldâve had a better ending if it wasnât for themâŚâ
Outside of the context, I actually agree with the sentiment that fans shouldn't feel so entitled that they think they have any control over the media they're consuming. But, the commenters don't realize that they're doing the exact thing that theyâre talking about. They're convinced that the queer shipping community is the reason the creator decided not to confirm any relationship and are pissed off that the ship they were rooting for, didn't happen. Why are they exempt from this rule? Because straight ships are supposed to happen and queer ships aren't? Because the boy is supposed to win the girl at the end in order to develop a good shonen? I'll go into the misogynistic implications of that later.
Other than that, I have seen a lot of people on tumblr get mad about other things, like before, regarding to the villains and todofam drama to the point that they started insulting Hori. Like I said, it's okay to be mad. Being mad about something doesn't make you a bad person but it was never our story to tell. Criticism and hate, are two different things and come off very differently.
âMHAâs fandom is filled to the brim with toxic, no shower taking, furry loving, lgbtq idiotsâŚâ
Honestly I added this one because he's right. We're here, we're queer, and we're idiots in the best way possible. However, I think this also says the quiet part out loud when it comes to the hatred towards bnha and it's fandom.
Shipping communities in other fandoms don't get anywhere near as harassed as often as the shipping communities in the bnha fandom despite not being much different. The difference is, a lot of us identify as and are recognized as queer and Hori himself even recognized that the LGBT community especially took a liking to his manga. But, in other fandoms, it's only okay to consider queer ships if they're recognized by the cishet audience.
Most people in the aot fandom don't have an issue with eremin because it was something recognized and memed by straight men, even if it was mostly as a joke. The kny fandom doesn't care about inotan because it was also recognized and memed by straight men. Narusasu doesn't get much hate anymore because the straight men of their fandom also started to recognize the characters weird obsession with each other and it became more difficult to ignore the ship since there was literally multiple accidental kiss scenes--one of the few times where the source material actively encourages shipping. I can keep going too.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, non-shonen animes with majority cishet women as their audience, no one bats an eye at their ships either, because there's not enough men in their communities to tell them they should feel ashamed for their fanon content and their words hold no weight⌠and thereâs a lot less queer people in those fandoms. You see the trend, right? It's almost like queer shipping is perfectly okay and mostly accepted as long as the community is either majority cishet men, or those men grant permission/approval for the specific ships or the piece of media wasnât âmeant for men.â Otherwise, it's seen as gross and cringe.
There was one other community that was kind of similar to bnha in a sense that it was mostly consumed by queer people and cishet men, where there was a lot of discourse on whether the two main characters were queer or not⌠which is the Buddy Daddies fandom. When the show was airing, those two sides that I talked about earlier were pretty apparent, with people having heated arguments about whether there were queer undertones or not. The cishet men of the fandom didn't give their approval to ship Rei and Kazuki, so it became an issue. Same with JJK now, more so with itafushi though. SatoSugu was given a somewhat stamp of approval but itafushi is still seen as taboo.
However, for some reason, every queer ship and character (even if it's canon) in bnha is seen as something shameful to recognize which I think is very telling considering how large the queer and disabled part of the fandom is. Minorities are being punished for relating to a manga with discrimination as one of it's core themes. Do what you want with that...
ââŚhate-mail just pushed him over the edge so he just scrapped everything just as punishment to spite themâŚâ
This kind of references rumors from a few years ago about the shipping community sending hate mail and death threats towards Horikoshi and everyone just running with it without doing their research.
Horikoshi did receive death threats but it was about Dr.Garaki's original name which you can read about here. It was mostly the eastern side of the fandom being aggressive, even going as far as posting videos of them burning the volume where Garaki's name was revealed which isn't okay. However, everyone blamed it on the western shipping community... for whatever reason...
There was another instance where people in the western fandom started sending Horikoshi death threats on his twitter because of a chapter about Endeavor getting attacked by Dabi and an Nomu and the Todo family being worried about him, people claiming that Hori "deserved to die" for romanticizing and glorifying abuse (when that wasn't at all the case, I'm genuinely confused on how they interpreted that...). This came out six years ago but somehow is still narrowed down to the queer community and women being toxic... like what? Do you see my point now of it feeling like we need to be granted permission to do certain things in fandom if we don't want to be punished?
Also who was Hori punishing by not confirming any ships? If anything, Iâve seen most shippers appreciative than notâŚ
II: Ochako Uraraka and her relationship with Izuku Midoriya
Back to that point about misogyny that I mentioned earlier...
"...I would have lowkey wish we got to see deku and ochaco end up together since their relationship was hinted from the beginning..."
Quick warning... this is gonna be a long point.
Yes, they were attracted to each other at the beginning, no one is denying that. No one is denying Ochakoâs crush either. Izukuâs nervous around her for the first like 50-ish chapters because he's still used to having friends (especially a girl. If you think about it, if his childhood friends were the only friends he had ever had before getting shunned by his community, then he had never had a girl as a friend before... ever) but their relationship eventually mellows out into a normal friendship. Given Ochako and Toga's arc, I don't think Izuocha was ever destined to end romantically.
Toga was desperate to be loved by someone who accepted her for who she was while Ochako was desperate to be able to show love to someone who she truly admired. Ochako wanted to be like Deku and tried for a while until she realized that she couldnât and shouldnât want to be like Deku. She thinks heâs amazing but she realizes that she canât strive to be like him because sheâs already like him but wants to change.
(this is kind of off topic but I just want to point out what Ochako said about Toga being sad about not being able to totally become Jin. Correct me if I'm remembering wrong but, Toga was only able to ever transform into Ochako completely, quirk and all. I think there's an analogy there, where her being able to be just like someone possibly means she's in love with them but she convinces herself that she loves everyone equally. I think it's supposed to be saying that "even though you can't be him completely, doesn't mean you don't love him, you just don't love him in the way you thought you did" and I think Ochako realizes that because she possibly had the same realization with Izuku. Becoming him didn't work out for her because she didn't love him the way others told her she did... I guess it wasn't off topic... oh well.)
The highlighted parts can apply to Ochako too if you replace âbloodlustâ with âenvyâ. She suffered the same issue that Toga did with other people telling her how and who to love which made her feel like she was supposed to be jealous.
She didn't like these feelings of jealousy, so she began to unintentionally be like Deku and hide them. I don't think she ever had an issue with loving Deku but she had an issue with the way she convinced herself of how she loved Deku made her feel. It made her feel like she was hiding something because I think she felt conflicted for not loving him the way everyone expected her to. All the way up to her final fight with Toga, we were only getting intel about her crush from other characters. Not her.
There's a lot of Mina just telling her what her feelings are despite Mina canonically not knowing much about love. Her crush has always been projected onto her which is why she's able to relate to Toga so well and wants to be more like her since Toga is able to live as herself so comfortably and broke away from conformity and what's expected of her.
Ochako's crush is only there because it's expected to be and her arc is meant to prove that she can be more than just the MCs love interest. Ochako's projected crush is Horikoshi trying to prove a point about basic shonen tropes which he's done time and time again throughout the story. SHE WANTS TO LIVE AND LOVE HOW SHE PLEASES WITHOUT SOCIETY TELLING HER HOW TO JUST LIKE TOGA WAS ABLE TO DO! I WILL KEEP SAYING IT UNTIL MY THROAT IS RAW AND DUDEBROS BEGIN TO FINALLY UNDERSTAND AND NOT VIEW FEMALE CHARACTERS AS NOTHING MORE THAN EYE CANDY FOR THE MALE CHARACTERS!!!
In the epilogue. she hides her feelings with a smile because she doesn't want to worry anyone (sound familiar?) so it only makes sense that it was Deku who pushed her to let out her feelings despite not practicing what he preaches. So, she embraced her inner Himiko and let out her feelings with her whole face. Those feeling just weren't for Deku... and they shouldn't have to be.
I genuinely feel like (especially with the way dudebros hate queer ships in this fandom) if Ochako was a boy, her arc wouldn't have been so widely misinterpreted. Because if he had talked about how amazing Izuku was and Mina came in and still said "It's love!" most fans would've taken it as a joke and/or even going as far as pointing out that the crush wasn't real because he didn't actually admit to it and it was projected onto him by other characters. But, the world ain't ready for that conversation.
"...I saw it as the fandom tryn to force their ships into the story 100% ruining key moments..."
I mainly added this quote because I thought it was so absurd. How do you see class-a coming to support Ochako as "omg it's the fandom forcing their agenda and controlling Hori through mind control to force their ships into the story and ruin this key moment,"??? Like, is it really so unthinkable that Horikoshi can have creative freedom outside the norm of treating girl characters as a trophy for the MC? You expected Izuku to marry her on the spot while she's having a mental breakdown? It's just... anyways...
III: Old-Gen Shonen Homoeroticism and it's Relation with Internalized Misogyny and how New-Gen is Changing That
The Shonen genre - especially old gen - is notorious for it's accidental misogyny, queerphobia, and racism. It got to the point where it's just kind of expected at this point.
The main one is usually misogyny. A lot of shonen mangaka like to write women as nothing more than eye candy and when they are actually given a personality and power, their character arcs are suddenly ignored/neglected and turned back into eye candy. Take Tsunade and Nezuko for example. We're told that they're important and powerful and yet they rarely do anything and almost never get important speaking lines and when we get to see them in action, the author makes sure to highlight certain parts of their bodies. Nezuko I think is an especially obvious one, being literally muzzled for most of the story, and when she powers up, she grows up and is suddenly given huge boobs...
Almost every shonen girls' character arcs revolves around a man and if not, then their existence is for the sake of a male character. I will say, I havent watched much shonen because of this aspect that's always apparent, but almost every older shonen I've watched, read, or seen other people talk about, it rears its ugly head at least once.
Because of that, most love interests werenât given enough personality to actually form a meaningful relationship with the MC that the audience - especially female and queer audiences - can connect to. More often than not, itâs âI like her cuz sheâs prettyâ or âI like her cuz she likes meâ and itâs irritating. And since these relationships are so shallow, authors are forced to create an interesting bond between the MC and a different character which usually ends up being the deuteragonist who is usually another boy more often than not. And boys in media written âfor boysâ are almost never neglected the way a girl would be, which is a sad truth.
These relationships almost always end up feeling like theyâre passed the point of friendship and because of that, a lot of women and queer people end up shipping them instead of the canon love interest. Because their relationship being romantic actually makes sense most of the time.
BakuDeku, Eremin, KilluaGon, NaruSasu, ItaFushi, SatoSugu, IsaBachi, HideKan, GenoSai, LawLight, the list can go on for fucking ever.
However, in bnha and BakuDekuâs case, especially when the âcanonâ relationship with the âcanonâ love interest wasnât really developed at all, and we never got a hint from Deku that he liked her, I donât think this homoeroticism wasnât intentional. Like with a lot of new-gen, there wasnât really blatant misogyny towards the âlove interestâ present to explain away the closeness between the two male leads.
All of the roles a love interest would usually have, were given to Katsuki. He was damseled for Deku to save, he was Dekuâs biggest cheerleader, he risked his life to save Deku, he died in Izukuâs honor, he showed up for Izuku when no one else thought to, he showed up to his hospital room and cried over the condition he was in, and then he devoted nearly a decade of his life trying to bring Izukuâs dream back into fruition⌠He cares so fucking much and Izuku cares right back. And no one can convince me that it was accidentally gay, because Horikoshi literally felt the need to tell AND remind us that Katsuki doesnât like girls. Plus, like I said before, all of that was done without neglecting Urarakaâs character arc.
But even though all of that is in text, I think shonen bros just expect it while also expecting the main girl and boy to be together⌠because thatâs how it always used to be. It wasnât until new-gen - starting with mha - started to purposely parody dated shonen tropes and twisting them into their own stories that shonen bros began to feel threatened by queer ships. Because they know that thereâs actually a chance of them happening now, and I feel like IzuOcha not being canonized is the beginning of a new trend. And misogynistic anime fans already hate it.
Conclusion - TLDR
uh idk what to say here.
In conclusion, fandom culture kinda sucks because of unexpected reasons, Ochakoâs character arc is ignored for the sake of men wanting her to be Izukuâs prize and itâs irritating as fuck, and I think previously accidental homoeroticism in old-gen shonen is becoming purposeful in new-gen shonen as new-gen slowly becomes more progressive and less misogynistic. Oh and bkdk canon ig (I donât think Iâve ever said that before, strangely enoughâŚ)
#also Iâm not saying anyone is a bad person for shipping izuocha#but if youâre seething over the fact that they didnât become canon then youâre no better than the other shippers you talk shit about#itâs not your story to tell#bakudeku#bnha#bkdk#bakugou katsuki#midoriya izuku#togaocha#togachako#toga himiko#uraraka ochako#puff speaks#bnha meta#fandom critical#bnha spoilers#this is really just a rant/ramble#ignore me#long post

Since itâs been a year since Burning Shores came out, some thoughts on Seyka:
TL;DR: Great character, really happy with her as a love interest for Aloy. They do some really interesting things with her that I never really see addressed so I wanted to talk about them.
She is tangibly shown to be much more of a match for Aloy through gameplay. Compared to other npcs, she solves things faster, does more damage, is a much more formidable melee combatant, faster climber - she even has a fucking Valor Surge using her Focus that does pretty significant tear damage to large machines like Slaughterspines. Environmental storytelling- Seykaâs skiff has at least 2-3 Tiderippersâ worth of parts, meaning sheâs been out on her own killing the things to build boat motors, and she has some ambient dialogue that strongly suggests sheâs fought and killed Slaugterspines before. Is some of this npc tech advancements in Burning Shores? Maybe, but it feels intentional.Â
Seyka has a natural probing curiosity about the old world that for the most part Aloyâs other companions didnât have without some significant hand-holding from Aloy to get them started, and some of her close friend (but not base team) characters just donât have at all. I donât mean this as a moral judgement, everyone is different and has different strengths and priorities , but itâs absolutely critical that a partner for Aloy have that kind of curiosity - itâs such a big part of her character. While she lives in this new world, sheâs never going to be entirely a part of it. Like she says, she finds belonging in individuals, and not really the tribes. I donât really see Aloy settling down in Meridian or Motherâs Heart. She needs to have a life of exploration and discovery and Seyka seems cut from that cloth too, whether she was always that way or being marooned gave her a fresh perspective.
Seyka did risk death using the focus and decided to do it anyway- in Rhengâs notes he calls for capital punishment for her. The threat is never *too* present but honestly I think thatâs a broader critique of the series and pretty consistent with the writing of conflicts in Horizon. I agree they could have played up the dramatic tension a bit, but this is a person who weighed the risk of a military execution by a totalitarian state and immediately decided it was worth it to save her sister and others. I think Aloy can intimately relate, given what she went through for Beta.
Even though itâs a DLC, she has a TON of screen time, probably comparable to Kotallo in HFW, and Horizon does SO much storytelling through gameplay and ambient dialogue. I think sheâs given a LOT of narrative space to breathe. Sheâs also has her own musical cues and leitmotifs that do a ton of foreshadowing work through the DLC - in terms of musical cues and framing sheâs very associated with the acoustic guitar, and the flute melody in âHer Sky, Her Seaâ has for Aloy and Seyka the same function that âIt Canât Lastâ does for Ellie and Dina in TLOU2 - next time you play Burning Shores, listen for it. That and the guitar cues from âThe Idea of Homeâ and âFor His Entertainmentâ do a lot of emotional work. Itâs great stuff.
Okay and lastly- YMMV on this one - Iâve def talked about it with friends before but I donât think Iâve said it on Tumblr. Iâm a firm believer that meta narratives and the way that stories are situated and created in our own world matter and that art deserves to be taken seriously and dissected. I love Horizon, but it, and Aloy as a protagonist, are absolutely drenched in white savior and colonial storytelling tropes. Every time I play Frozen Wilds, all I can think of is Jack Sparrow going âand then they made me their chiefâ. Thereâs a lot of iffy stuff in the games, as much as I absolutely love them. Weâll have to see how H3 goes, but Burning Shores is MUCH better about this and honestly Seyka is a huge part of it. The story centers itself on a queer woman of color who is pretty tangibly presented as Aloyâs equal with her own strengths and weaknesses throughout the story and takes the lead just as often if not more than Aloy does, which I find really refreshing. It doesnât entirely fix Aloyâs white savior issues but I think itâs a really good move for the narrative that continues the themes found in HFW about community and connection.
Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds (2017)
#Seyka#horizon forbidden west#hfw#aloy#horizon#horizon zero dawn#guerrilla games#hzd#horizon burning shores#hfw seyka#horizon critical#The musical leitmotifs are gooooood shit#It was one of the things that really hooked me with the dlc because Horizon had never done that for a character relationship before#Also the last point is not a personal attack#I like lots of vaguely problematic things

Can't Stay Away from You - Chapter Two
The outline for this chapter, was over 2000 words, so as you can see, I had ideas lol. We get a bit more attention on the boys this chapter, but we do see what's up with y/n as well! Honestly, this series seems to be longer chapters, so the updates will be slower for this story. But either way, I hope this is an enjoyable chapter two!
masterlist
word count: 5.7k
warnings: Angst, fluff eventually, protective members, scenting, scent highs, cute moments because yes we need it, multiple distressed and panicked people, crying, tears, I think that's it?
âWhy did you ever think it was a good idea to give her, a random Stay, your number? What in the world compelled you to think it was a good idea?! She could have been a sasaeng for all we know, and you just gave her your number all willy nilly?!â Minho just about exploded on the pack alpha, criticizing his frankly stupid decision.
âYou know very well that weâre all pulled to her for some reason. Hell, my alpha wanted to grab her, pull her into my arms, and scent her, right in front of every fan in that room. And Iâm pretty fucking sure that everyone else felt something similar to that. So donât you criticize me on this Minho. I thought about it before I gave her my number. I took a chance, wanting to get to know that girl who captivated even you. Donât think I didnât see you watching her after your turn, I saw it all.â Chan went after Minho, feeling enraged after hearing the manâs words.
By the end of his words, Chan was chest to chest with Minho, almost ready to fight with him. Minho is ready to fight his pack alpha, wanting to get it into his thick head how much he could have risked their packâs safety over this.Â
âDo you realize how badly this could have gone?! Weâre lucky that she hasnât yet done something. She could post your number out into the world for all we know. And yet youâre standing here, telling me itâs worth it because she interests you? I thought my pack leader, and the leader of my group, was more responsible than that.â Minho said, his words cutting like knives.
A noise at the door stopped their conversation, Minho moving to open the door, their two omegas falling onto the floor. The two of them looked sheepishly up at their alphas, knowing they were caught in the worst way. The two alphas werenât impressed, as the omegas knew better than to eavesdrop, and they raised an eyebrow at the two until the apologies came rolling in.Â
âAnd you two were listening in, why?â Chan questioned them, as they looked down at the floor.
âJagiya dragged you in here, and we were curious why he needed to talk to you so urgently.â Han answered Chan, before looking up at him. âDo you really have y/nâs number??â He hurried to ask, even though it meant Minho gave him a look for asking at all.
âYah! Thatâs what you gained from listening in? That Christopher has the girlâs number?â Minho scolded the younger man.
âWell, yeah. It means we can talk with her!â Jisung says, completely ignoring Minhoâs growing glare.
âI am surrounded by fucking idiots I swear.â Minho comments, voice and face giving away just how done he was with the alpha and omega pair.Â
Felix wisely stayed quiet, hoping that heâd be forgotten about. Unfortunately, that was not going to happen, as both alphas turned to him.Â
âHow much did you hear?â Chan asked.
âI heard everything.â Felix answered, hoping that the less he gave away, the better off heâd be. Once again, he was wrong.
âWhere do you stand on this, then?â Minho queried.
âI canât say that Iâm not excited that Chan has y/nâs number, but also I can understand your concerns, Minho-hyung.â Felix explains, feeling torn between both sides.Â
Chan smirked triumphantly, as Minho sighed. Why are his packmates like this? His own alpha told him that heâs the same way, that heâs being a hypocrite. He shut out his wolf, focusing back on the present situation.Â
Since he didnât get scolded for his words, Felix decided to be a bit cheeky. He teased Minho about his reaction to the girl, before getting stuck in a headlock by the alpha.Â
âIâm not wrong!â He shouted out. Minho only growls in response.
This triggers Han to laugh, before running out of the room, calling out that the great alpha Minho was interested in y/n too, no matter what he said to oppose that thought. Said alpha let Felix go and ran after the other omega, intent on murdering him.Â
âYou little shit, get back here!â He screamed out at the rapper, chasing after him.
âI donât think so!â Han called back, a cheeky smile plastered on his face. The other observed this chase and laughed at the two of them. This was prime entertainment, after all. Felix and Chan made their way out to the living room, where the majority of the pack had settled, watching the alpha omega pair race around the house in a very scooby doo sort of fashion.Â
Eventually Jisung was cornered by the older alpha, and was swiftly pushed up against a wall. Minho attacked the omegaâs scent gland, Jisung quickly went into a scent high, going limp in the alphaâs arms. Minho smirked victoriously, bringing the now quiet omega over to sit down on the couch, keeping him in his lap. Seungmin emerged from his room, the last member to join them all in the living room.
âWell, I guess we might as well have the pack meeting now.â Chan piped up, all attention turning to him.Â
âWhat about?â Seungmin asked.
âAbout y/n.â Chan quickly replied, and that got everyoneâs attention. The boysâ attention was solely focused on their pack alpha, well besides Jisung whose head was resting on Minhoâs shoulder, the omega still a melted puddle.
The boys started to get louder, each discussing about y/n, before Chan shushed them all.Â
âDuring the fanmeet, I gave y/n my number when signing her album. She messaged me while we were on the way back here. I confirmed itâs actually her, and I know that all of us were interested in her, I could tell by how none of you could shut up about her on the drive home.â He told them, and they all started clamoring for her number.
âYah! Shut up!â Minho interjected, and they all quickly settled as none of them wanted to earn the manâs ire.Â
Chan continued once the noise level had dropped, âMy alpha also is attracted to her, at the fansign, it wanted me to pull her into my arms and scent her, everyone else be damned. I know Minhoâs alpha was behaving similarly.â
Minho sighed as all attention was directed to him. âMy alpha didnât want to let her go. And wanted to take her and keep her in our nest. And he wouldnât shut up about how pretty Felix and her would look together in our nest.â He spoke.
This admission from the dancer caused a round of teasing by the rest of the pack. They teased him and his alpha for wanting to essentially kidnap a fan because she was so pretty. Felix sat there blushing, the thought of y/n and him in a nest together painted a pretty picture in his mind, leaving him desiring for that to happen.
Fairly quickly afterwards, the remainder of the boys also speak up about their feelings, except for Han, but Felix shares the other omegaâs feelings in his stead. They all found that if their wolves hadnât outright talked about her, that they at least felt drawn or pulled to her.Â
Changbin quickly brought the conversation back around to Chan having her number, which then brought back the clamoring by the others, bar Minho and Han, for their leader to pass on her number to them. Chan sternly told them that he would have to get her permission first before he would even think of handing out her number, which then spurs on calls for him to text her right then and there to ask, as well as a couple of pouts at Chan not immediately giving her number.
The leader sighed, before pulling his phone out and pulling up their texts.Â
âHey there. So the others found out that I have your number, and they want it as well. I wonât pass it on to them unless I have your express permission to do so.â He texted y/n.
It took a minute before she responded, and by the time she did, the boys had crowded around him and his phone.Â
âThatâs fine! You can give it to them, I donât mind.â She replied to him.
âOh! Ask her if we can have a group chat too!!â Hyunjin shouted out, making Changbin and Felix cover their ears.
âAnd I have been asked to ask you if youâre okay with a group chat with the whole group.â He passed on the question to her.
âThatâs okay with me as well. I assume it was Felix who wanted it? Or Han?â She asked him.
âHyunjin, actually.â He texted.
âAhhh, that would have been my third guess.â She replied, and he laughed.
Hyunjin pouted, as did Felix, at being so predictable.
Chan quickly created a group chat, adding y/n to it last. As he predicted, the chat quickly fell into chaos. The boys all wanted her attention, and he had to step in to tell them to cool it, both by text and verbally. There were more pouts this time, the boys unhappy about being scolded.Â
Since the industry has a habit of not disclosing the idolâs designations to fans since that incident at the fansign, and the pack of boys not knowing what y/nâs designation is, thatâs the first thing after introductions to be discussed. Y/n is the first to spill, telling them that she is an omega, to which Felix chimed in as well. Though he already knew that, and was trying to cover up for the growing pool of guilt in his stomach at hiding it. Chan tells her that Han is the other omega of their group. Changbin, Hyunjin and Sungmin all tell her that theyâre the betas, Seungmin noting afterwards that heâs the pack beta. This left Jeongin, Minho and Chan as the alphas, with Chan specifying that heâs the pack alpha.Â
Y/n was thankful to know what each of the boys was, and now knows why she probably felt the most at ease with Chan, Han and Felix, with two of them being fellow omegas and one being a pack alpha. They start to discuss other topics, though the maknaes try to persuade her to reveal who her bias was, but she kept her mouth shut on that matter. They move on to getting to know her, 20 questions style but really, it was just them asking her questions instead of her asking them any questions.
During all of this, Chan notes that Felix is unusually quiet, which is odd because of how excited he was only five minutes prior. Heâs usually the big texting person in the group, and yet heâs barely texting at all, just staring down at his phone.Â
Felix is feeling the guilt settle in his chest, weighing him down almost. He canât push himself to be part of the conversation, only staring down at his phone, slowly drifting away from reality. He canât help but feel guilty, he ran away from her, and his omega had been berating him for his actions since then. He only jolted back into reality when Chan reached out to shake him, asking if he was okay. The freckled Aussie fakes a smile and tells his alpha that heâs fine. He knew he had to come clean, there was no other way around it. It wasnât fair to keep her in the dark about this, but it also wouldnât be fair to drop this over text.
Before he can regret it, he texted her in the group chat, âAre you free to call? Thereâs something you need to know.âÂ
This set the pack into pandemonium, thinking that Felix was going to tell her about their feelings. Chan and Minho reach out for his phone, but the omega moves faster, moving out of everyoneâs reach.Â
A ding was heard as she replied, âIâm free right now, Felix. Whatâs up?âÂ
Deciding to just call her instantly, to avoid himself backing out, and to keep the others away from him.
âHey Felix, whatâs up? What did you wanna talk about?â She asked him as soon as she picked up.
âI knew you were an omega.â He blurted out.
âHow? You shouldnât have been able to tell at the fansign, not with my scent covered.â She replied, confused at how he knew.
âI met you before the fansign, actually.â He admitted to her, and the others.
âI think I would have known if we met.â She started, before going silent.
âY/n?â Felix tentatively called out to the omega over the phone.
âNo, we couldnât have. That was you?â He hears her say, both to him and to herself.Â
âIt was me. Iâm sorry for what I did.â He told her.
âFelix-â She started, but he interrupted her.
âIâm sorry for bumping into you, and Iâm so sorry that I ran away. My omegaâs been berating me for it since I ran. I figured Iâd never run into you again, but then you turned up at the fansign and when you didnât recognize me, I thought that I just had to get through it and it would all be okay.â He apologized, and explained to the best of his ability.
His heart dropped as he heard a tiny gasp before a sob was heard from her side of the call. He hadnât meant to make her cry, it was the last thing he had meant to happen. The others hear the sob and itâs enough to shock Han out of his scent high, his instincts on alert almost immediately.
âI didnât say anything at the fansign because I didnât think it was a good place to do so, nevermind the backlash that either of us may have faced. I had such a good time talking to you I swear. My omegaâs honestly been yearning for you since yesterday, and Iâm sorry I was cowardly and ran away. I was just so overwhelmed by everything I was feeling and my omegaâs thoughts and urges and I couldnât think of anything else to do but to run. Iâm sorry y/n, for the hurt I caused you. I only hope you can forgive me.â He further explained, hoping that she would accept his apology, but know full well that she didnât have to. Tears running out of his eyes by the end of his little speech.Â
The rest of the pack could only watch on, concerned about both omegaâs but unsure of whether to intervene at all.Â
âThank you for telling me, Felix. And thank you for apologizing. In the vein of being honest, after you ran, I went back to the hotel yesterday, because I had been overcome with a feeling of loneliness, and sadness. I made up a nest and after getting in it, I cried myself to sleep almost. My omega cried out for you, she was the most hurt by your actions.â Y/n admitted to not only Felix, but the rest of the boys unknowingly.Â
Felix started sobbing, as did y/n. Both omegaâs feeling great amounts of sadness, and each feeding off of the otherâs emotions. Chan decided it was time to step in, pulling Felix in close and hugging the younger man, taking the phone from his hand and handing it off to Minho as the alpha stepped closer, Han by his side. The other omega wrapped his arms around Felix, providing further comfort.
âY/n? This is Minho. Can I ask for more details?â The elder alpha asked the girl.
She explained from the beginning, going over the two omegaâs first encounter, and ending it with what she had said before, about falling asleep in her nest due to her emotions overtaking her. She told him that she had no idea it was Felix, that for all she knew, it was just a random stranger who smelled amazing, but had just run out of the blue.Â
As she continued to talk to Minho, her sentences eventually devolved into sobs and cries instead, fearing that she hurt Felix. Her sobs continued, worrying Minho that sheâd start to hyperventilate and pass out because of it. He started to try and calm her over the phone, looking over to see that most of the group had crowded around Felix, trying to calm the omega down, though it wasnât working.Â
Y/n could barely hear Minhoâs voice, her sobs having grown louder as she tugged at her shirt, whining and crying that she had made Felix upset. She hadnât wanted to do that, and she wished she could take back what she said. She curled in on herself, her omega feeling as sad as she was, neither of them wanted this to happen. Her scent soured, smelling bitter now, instead of sweet like it normally did.
Minho called out to the omega, âY/n? Can you hear me?âÂ
He only received a whine in reply, but it was better than nothing.Â
âOmega, I need you to verbally answer me.â He told her, not wishing to call her that, but knowing it will help bring her back at least slightly.
âCan hear ya.â He heard her mumble.
âGood omega.â He praised her. âThank you for answering me.â
He doesnât think sheâs going to fully calm down soon, and heâs worried about her dropping, so decided that he needed to go see her. He asked her where her hotel was, receiving the name of a hotel, which he was able to discover wasnât far from their dorm. He told her to stay calm for him and to keep breathing.Â
He caught Chanâs attention, the pack alpha motioning for him to come closer.Â
âIâm going to see y/n, sheâs in as much distress as he is right now. Iâm worried sheâll pass out.â He says quietly, trying not to let the others hear, though his effort is for naught.
Felix and Hyunjin whined at what they overheard, the omega of the two freaking out further that the other omega was in distress because of him, enough so that she might pass out. Felix himself started to hyperventilate, worrying about y/n getting hurt while sheâs all alone.
âAlpha, protect omega?â He managed to get out, directing it at Minho.
âWeâre gonna protect you baby, donât worry.â Chan reassured him.
âNot âmega, pretty âmega.â Tears welled up in Felixâs eyes as they werenât understanding him.Â
âIâm going to go help pretty âmega, okay kitten?â Minho said, running his hands through Felixâs hair, pushing his bangs back as he did so.
Felix nodded, before devolving into further worry, his omega taking over at that point. Tears were falling at a fast pace down the blue haired omegaâs cheeks and his distressed scent almost made the others choke. Finally, to calm him down and having no other option, Chan scruffed the younger Aussie, causing him to go limp in the leaderâs arms. Han grabs Seungmin, and the two start scenting their omega, trying to bring back that happy citrusy scent that they know and love.
Chan motions for Minho to go see y/n, or theyâll be dealing with a distressed omega all night.
âGo on, go see her. Take Hyunjin with you.â Chan ordered the two of them.
They quickly threw their shoes back on, taking the minimum they needed to get out the door. Hyunjin pulled his phone out, getting directions to her hotel. They hurried down the streets to her hotel, somewhat relieved that they made it there in under 20 minutes.Â
They rushed into the hotel lobby, y/n having given her room number prior to them leaving the dorm thankfully. They pushed the button for her room, but of course they werenât alone in the elevator, and it seemed that people had to stop and get out on every single floor. Finally they arrived on her floor, running down the hall to find her room, Hyunjin finding it first.
Minho knocked on the door gently, but loud enough that y/n could hear it. They heard noise from inside the room, before the door slowly opened. Y/n looked a mess, tear-stained cheeks and swollen red eyes from crying. She was still having trouble regulating her breathing, her breath hitching and shaking as she looked up at them.Â
âHi.â She said, barely louder than a whisper.Â
Minho, on pure instinct, picked her up and carried her in his arms, one hand pushing her head into his neck and scent gland, letting her scent him if she wanted to. He brought her to her nest in the bed, laying her in it as he stayed outside of it. He looked at her for permission to enter her nest, and she quickly granted it. He crawled into bed almost instantaneously, pulling the omega into his lap and wrapping his arms around her. He rocked her back and forth, letting her scent him as much as she needed. Minho was just there to comfort her without judgment, as she cried into his shoulder. He softly cooed and whispered comforting words to her, telling her that Felix was fine, that the others were with him and that he would be fine, just as she would be fine.
Hyunjin was waiting outside the nest, knowing better than to climb inside without the omegaâs permission. At that point, y/n had calmed down quite a bit, and had taken to scenting Minho, which Hyunjin knew the alpha would never let strangers do. Yet here he was, allowing her to do what she needed for comfort. It really did prove that connection they all felt, that the older alpha willingly left Felix in distress to come and see y/n, and even was acting on instinct to calm an omega he had only met briefly hours earlier.Â
Minho caught y/nâs attention, pointing to the beta who was waiting. She immediately made grabby hands for the tall dancer, who smiled as he climbed into the nest.
âHello little omega.â He cooed in greeting, getting a smile and a blush in response.
âHiii beta.â She said, before hiding her face in Minhoâs shoulder, to which the two men chuckled.Â
Hyunjin moved close to her, rubbing her back softly. Her scent was still soured, which worried the two of them. It meant that she still hadnât fully come back from her distress, or was hiding how bad it was. Except for the fact that scents never lied, so the two of them changed positions, laying down in the nest on their sides facing each other, with y/n in the middle of them. They took turns scenting her and trying to get her scent to brighten up.Â
âItâs okay, omega. Everyoneâs okay, no oneâs upset or mad, youâve done nothing wrong. Your feelings are valid, and we can talk everything out with Felix later, okay? But we need you to feel better first. We canât have a sad omega, hmm?â Minho continued to reassure her, telling her that Felix would be distressed to see her like this.
Sometime after they arrived, y/nâs scent finally started to smell better, sweeter. Hyunjinâs beta and Minhoâs alpha canât get enough of her scent, the sweet honey and vanilla was so delicious. The boys felt the same way, the two of them chuffing in happiness. This was all strangely intimate for three people who had only met hours earlier, but there was a sense of rightness as they all laid together. It felt like this is what they should be doing, like they were just laying with another one of their packmates, not an omega they had met that day.Â
Y/nâs omega was purring in happiness at being in between the alpha and beta. Her omega was loving this, even if it only happened because of a bad situation. The happier she gets, the more delectable her scent gets, and soon enough, the boys canât help themselves. The two of them descend on her scent glands, attacking them in order to get more of that pretty scent to come out and their wolves want to smell like her, want her pretty omega scent all over them, as a claim of sorts. This attack almost causes y/n to go into a scent high, thankfully for her, they get interrupted before that happens.
Minho picked up her phone to see Chan calling her. He answered, âHello Channie alpha.âÂ
âHello Minho. How is y/n doing? Is she feeling better? I tried to get a hold of both of you, but neither you nor Hyunjin answered.â Chan questioned him, concerned.Â
âWeâve taken good care of her, sheâs feeling better now.â Minho replied.
âY/nâs okay? Sheâs really okay?â Felixâs voice comes through the phone.
Y/n took this as her time to speak up. âIâm okay, Felix. I promise. Are you okay too, sunshine?â She turned the questions back on him.
âIâm okay, I promise!â He told her, wanting her to not be concerned about him.
The two omegas started chatting on other topics, but before long, Chan interrupted them and told them to save the conversation for another time. They both pouted, the respective boys on either side chuckling at their expressions.Â
âMinho, Hyunjin, what are your plans now? Are you returning to the dorm now?â He broached the topic of what they would do, now that y/nâs been calmed down.
Hyunjin speaks up first, âCan we bring her back with us? Donât want to leave her here alone.â Minho hummed in agreement.
Their wolves were insistent on not leaving her here by herself. What if she got distressed again, and they werenât here to soothe her? That couldnât be allowed.Â
âWe want her to come back with us. Omega shouldnât be left alone.â Minho affirmed Hyunjinâs words.Â
The use of omega tipped off Chan that Minho was not fully in control at the moment. That made him concerned, and their insistence really shocked the others, not expecting them to want to bring her back.Â
Well, everyone except for Han, he wasnât shocked that they were behaving like this. Han knew that there was something about her that pulled them in, and he was fully on board with her coming to their dorm. If Minhoâs alpha was that protective over her, he knew that she was safe to be around. The manâs alpha is protective over his pack, and heâd never let anyone in that he deemed a threat. Plus, his alpha was right, when he said sheâd look cute in their nest. He wanted that too, wanted her and Felix in the nest. Sheâd be their little omega, that theyâd keep safe, and by Felixâs concern, he thought the same.Â
âI want her here. Minho-jagi, bring her please.â The quokka-cheeked man spoke up, to everyoneâs surprise. Thankfully, no one protested it, and Chan gave in, saying she could come and stay the night, to a round of cheers.
Chan sighed, before calling out to y/n, asking her, âY/n, do you want to come here and stay with us for the night? You can say no, and I will come and get the boys. But you are welcome here if you want that.â
Y/n nodded, forgetting that Chan couldnât see her nod.Â
Minho caught her attention, âOmega, we need a verbal answer.â
She blushes in embarrassment, âIâd like that.âÂ
Honestly, sheâs still in shock about it all, from getting Chanâs number to now laying here in between two-thirds of Danceracha, and sheâs about to go back with them to their dorm. What is this life sheâs living right now?
Her omega was thinking about getting to smell Felixâs sweet citrusy smell again. Plus the floral scents coming from Hyunjin, and what she could only think of as a clean laundry scent from Minho. Her omega is increasingly pleased with her situation, knowing that she wanted these boys as her pack, even if y/n hadnât gotten to that point yet.
After confirming that theyâd be heading back to the dorm soon with y/n in tow, Chan hung up. Hyunjin jumped into action, finding a bag of hers, and then heading into her bathroom to collect anything from there that she might need for the night. He found a bag for her hygiene and makeup items in the bathroom, and filled that up, before placing it in the large bag he found. He then moved out back into the main room, looking up at her and asking what he needed to pack for her.
Minho sat the two of them up as she directed him on what to pack, and Hyunjin dutifully followed her orders. Once he had everything, he brought the bag over for her to double check, looking happy once she approved, glad to be of service to the omega. Minho looked at him, pride in his eyes as he looked at the beta, a silent âgood jobâ mouthed to the younger dancer.
Leaving the bag on the bed, he went to find her shoes, as Minho moved them closer to the edge of the nest and bed. Hyunjin came back with her sneakers, and knelt down in front of her. He carefully put her shoes on her feet, the omega looking down at him with slight wonder in her eyes at how sweet the two of them were being. Once he had finished lacing up her shoes, he stood up and stepped back, grabbing her overnight bag in the process.
Minho moved her off his lap, before he slid off of the bed, immediately turning around to reach his hands out for her. She took them, and he helped her slide off the bed as well, landing softly on the ground, as if she was farther off the ground than the couple inches between her feet and the bed. Hyunjin hurried back over to the door, grabbing her coat off the hanger, and helping her into it. The two idols donned masks, and handed her one as well that they nicked on their way out as an extra for themselves. She put it on to conceal her face. They left the hotel room, but not before making sure y/n had the keys to her room.
They quickly rode back down the elevator and left the hotel, starting their journey back home. They two men knew where they were going, and each of them holding her hand, they led her down the streets until they approached the building their dorm was in. Heading up the lift to their floor, the doors opened and they hurried to their apartment. They arrived at the boysâ dorm, but before they could open the door, it opened for them, an excited Han on the other side.Â
âYouâre here! Come in come in!â He nearly shouted, causing the others to come rushing to the entryway as well, Chan and Felix pushing their way to the front. The two Aussieâs kept everyone back so that the three of them could enter the apartment. The boys took off their shoes, as y/n followed them in doing so.Â
Once everyoneâs shoes were off, Minho grabbed y/nâs hand and pulled her with him to the living room. He sat down on one of the couches, pulling her down next to him. Felix claimed the spot on her other side, as Han pouted, before he sat down in front of her. That didnât stop him from complaining about how unfair it was, to the othersâ amusement.Â
They all started chatting, in an effort to make yân feel more comfortable in their presence. It worked, to their delight, and she quickly loosened up and joined the conversations. They talked about anything and everything, though the older boys had a lot of fun telling her embarrassing stories about the younger four boys, who retaliated by telling her the same kinds of stories about their elders. This caused her to laugh until her sides hurt, before chiming in with a couple stories of her own.Â
Eventually, more yawns than words were coming out of y/nâs mouth, and the eldest two took this as a sign that the small omega needed sleep.Â
âI think itâs time for some sleep, yeah?â Chan said as he came up to her, Han had moved out of the way so he could get closer.Â
Y/n nodded sleepily, having a harder time keeping herself upright. Chan, after getting verbal confirmation that it was okay to pick her up, did so, before taking her to their pack nest, and laying her in the middle of it. The two omegas hopped in after her, softly talking with her and removing anything on her person that might make sleeping hard. Once they were finished, and moved anything out of the nest, they settled in on either side of her, keeping her between them.Â
The three betas climbed into the nest next, Hyunjin on the other side of Felix, while Changbin and Seungmin stayed on Hanâs side of the nest. Jeongin slipped in behind Seungmin with Chan capping off that side of the nest, as Minho slid in behind Hyunjin, reaching over him to feel Felix and y/n as much as he could.Â
With how many happy and content scents there were surrounding the omegas, it didnât take long before the three were out cold. The three betas quickly followed, Changbin being the last of the three to fall asleep, watching the younger ones succumb to sleep first before he could. Minho was next, looking at Chan before nuzzling into Hyunjinâs neck and peacefully falling into the hands of sleep, and Chan took one more look around, his alpha being the happiest at seeing all of them safe here in the nest, before he too slipped into dreamland. The dorms were finally quiet, and the nine of them were safe in the nest, where they couldnât be harmed.

I got a good feeling about "The Acolyte"
Not even kidding. Like, I've spoken before about why I'm wary of it.
George Lucas' Star Wars is something that intentionally has black and white morality, rather than shades of gray. Those movies are meant for kids and projecting a "gray" morality onto them then proclaiming it was George's vision all along is doing so in bad faith.
The narrative of the Prequels doesn't frame the Prequel Jedi in as negative a light as Leslye Headland, Dave Filoni, etc etc do.
See here for more details, but bottom line: yeah, a show that has a darksider as the underdog is bound to demonize the Jedi (who are the actual underdogs in the Prequels), and obviously that rubs me the wrong way.
BUT.
The trailer looks fucking cool. It really really does.
youtube
And more importantly? I've done some research... and Leslye Headland is ticking a lot of good boxes, in my book.
1. The Acolyte won't be a 10-hour movie.
I've criticized Disney Plus shows before, explaining that a big source for most of their issues is that these series are being structured as "long movies" rather than, y'know, actual shows.
But in this interview with Collider, Headland addresses that: it'll be a series. Not a long movie that you need to watch across four weeks.
Thank God. You have no idea how much that comforts me. Finally a showrunner who's, y'know, actually running a show.
And this goes hand in hand with what she told IGN, here, about how she's going about building suspense.
Yes! Exactly! That's how it's supposed to be!
Like, compare this to Baylan Skoll's storyline in Ahsoka.
In no possible way was that emotionally-fulfilling. For 8 episodes we had no idea what he was after, and the season ended where we still don't know. What does he want? What is he after? Your guess is as good as mine, it's something Mortis-related.
So yeah. Maybe getting the Emmy-nominated trained screenwriter on board to run this was a good idea.
2. Maybe the Jedi will not be as demonized as I originally thought.
Don't get me wrong. 80% of what she says about the Jedi makes me cringe. It's the typical fan's interpretation and y'all know I disagree with that interpretation.
It's painful to see her refer to the Jedi as an institution (not how the Prequels' narrative frames them) and to see her frame "Balance" in the "oh there's so many of them and just two Sith, that means the Force is out of balance" meaning... but at least she acknowledges the Jedi are a benevolent institution.
They're not an "elitist force hiding in their ivory tower" as others have described the Jedi.
Moreover, there'll be a variety of Jedi POVs, many personalities.
Yord Fandar, is described as a strictly by-the-book Jedi Knight and guardian from the Jedi Temple, is an overachiever and a rule follower.
The question now becomes: will the narrative frame him as "your typical Jedi" or is it just this one guy? I'm hoping it's the latter.
I also like how her reasoning goes re: Jedi drawing their lightsabers.
Which explains the hand-to-hand combat seen in the trailer.
This teenager is coming at Carrie-Ann Moss with a dagger, of course the Jedi won't draw her saber.
3. She's a fan of Star Wars... but a screenwriter first.
You can tell in the interviews she's a fan. She's using words like "BBY" and "EU" casually. In the above-linked interviews she's bringing up the Nightsisters, Timothy Zahn, The Clone Wars, she mentions she has a tattoo of Ralph McQuarrie's concept art of Leia, the High Republic books, etc.
She's done her homework. She's a fan.
But the vibe I'm getting from these interviews is that she's weaving in these various lore-elements in a more organic way, rather than in the "fan-servicey" way Dave Filoni has been doing in his shows.
The references and Easter Eggs will be there, but the narrative won't bend over itself just so you can get it. Crafting a good story comes first, and Andor is a beautiful illustration of why this is true.
Which is why I was never bothered about one of the writers never having watched Star Wars before getting the job. You need those fresh eyes when you're tackling something of this scale.
That makes sense to me. Maybe it's because of my own screenwriting experience, but yeah. That out-of-the box perspective is precious.
And like, obviously, that writer watched the films eventually, but for some reason everyone who bitched about Headland omitted that detail and opted for a more bad faith interpretation.
Hm. Wonder why.
Maybe it's the same reason that months ago this clipped audio circulated socials without context, in which she debates whether Star Wars only came from George Lucas and only Lucas is the key.
The FULL context of that interview reveals that she's actually:
debating the "autheur director" myth and positing that it was achieved by a collective of excellent filmmakers and craftspeople that George was skilled and smart enough to recruit...
the studios now think it's a simple as hiring one guy and throwing money at him, because they have no idea what the fuck they're talking about. See Napoleon (2023) for example.
Yes, she also does a jab to the Prequels, which speaks to the generation of fans she's a part of... but overall she's giving Lucas props whilst also stating an ideological difference, that's it!
George is a proponent of the "autheur" theory, Leslye isn't.
However, guess what, in like half the talks George gave post-selling Star Wars? He's giving shoutouts to everyone who helped make the first film, even remembering their names.
So I'm not even sure he'd vehemently disagree with Leslye, in fact they'd prolly have a conversation about it and immediately bitch about how stupid studio executives are :D
But that's not as incendiary, is it? Again, the more I do the research, the more it feels like the reason most of these influencers are hating on her is purely sexist.
I mean, on IGN she's even acknowledging that she does plan on taking stock of fan reactions for Season 2.
It's not a guarantee that she'll incorporate the feedback, but at least that's more consideration than, say, JJ Abrams or Rian Johnson gave the fandom.
She's even bringing the moral ambiguity that the Gray Jedi-loving edge-lords love so much.
"No, she's a woke feminist! Anything she does is evil! Eww, girls!"
đ
Needless to say... I'm gonna give it a shot.
I think it's gonna be a good show, I think it's gonna be a solid story.
I'm crossing my fingers that they won't as biased against the Jedi as it seems they'll be. Even if they are... if it's still an enjoyable experience, I'll gloss over it.
As @gffa states in this post:
Worst case? It's not a story from George. I can dismiss it from my headcanon without a moment's hesitation :D
