#x 2022 #pearl #maxxxine #x series #strait-jacket #psycho #what ever happened to baby jane #horror #psycho-biddy #hagsploitation #made this whole big thing which i still might post eventually but. in terms of aesthetics. this abridged version is better lol #i'm not gonna finish the other post tonight but consider this a preview of sorts #i can't stop thinking about what if they leaned more into the 'hagsploitation' aspect of it all lol #i actually find it odd + off-putting that they start and end maxxxine with a bette davis reference #with a big significant psycho cameo at the bates motel itself #and there's not really any payoff for those allusions!!#i think if you're gonna try to tie into a legacy of older horror films you should do it in a sincere way #because that just felt like 'elevated horror' bonus points + nostalgia bait #anyway. it's fun to think about the potential it had + how all the building blocks exist within the narrative to do something interesting #and i am a 1960s hagsploitation subgenre apologist lol #what ever happened to baby jane? changed my brain chemistry the first time i watched it as a kid #so maybe i'm just nostalgia baiting myself making these connections lmao #but it could have been so good #it could have been the perfect synthesis of the shared themes across all three movies #but i don't think hagsploitation gets butts in movie theater seats like girlboss 80s nostalgia vaguely true crime related shit #oh wait also i guess calling psycho a hagsploitation movie is like. probably not 100% accurate #but it is though. it's not an inversion of the subgenre bc the subgenre didn't exist yet #but it builds up a mystery 'psycho-biddy' character only to reveal that she's not the murderer #which is also what happens in strait-jacket so i think it counts!!#+ psycho is directly referenced in all 3 movies so it’s a pretty clear influence on the trilogy as a whole

‘the children yearn for the mines’ is a little too real to me bc when i was a kid and my older siblings were trying to get me into pokémon i really never cared to try playing. BUT. i was obsessed with the underground mining minigame in dppt. i used to beg my sister to let me take a turn playing and set it up for me bc i didn’t know how to so i could go mine for gems nonstop until i cleared that entire cave section of glittering wall spots which always made me so sad bc i was having such a great time. i didn’t even understand the significance of what i was doing but 7 year old me was high off of it

#years and years later when i actually played platinum myself and it hit me like OH this is the game with the mining thing!!!#you have no idea how happy i was #…and also sad. it made me kinda heartsick bc in my childhood nostalgia dreams #my brother and sister used to play online together and do capture the flag #and their little minigame battles in the underground with their cool secret bases were so fun to watch #like that was back when the wifi connection was working and the games were alive and relevant #but i came back to it far far too late. when it was a mere relic and i was alone with no other players #still. hearing the music again brought a smile to my face #pokémon #dppt #i am once again rambling about my very special relationship to sinnoh #i didn’t play pokémon as a kid but also yes i did it was part of my childhood. like without really knowing much about it #the lil character sprites. hearthome city theme #the contests #the crunchy sound of the map opening #and the incomprehensible map itself #the bike and surf music #empoleon and staravia’s cries as they went to use surf and fly #truly. being a younger sibling watching your older sibling play has such an impact on you #it’s all nostalgic to me too i just didn’t know the full context of it myself back then #couple all this with the weird feeling of having played pokémon legends arceus as my first own game #and THEN going and finally checking out dppt #it was like double nostalgia. two different half-nostakgia experiences #just. agh i make fun of gen 4 for a lot of things but it is fundamentally my heart isn’t it #i also literally am incapable of talking about it for more than 5 minutes without bringing pla into it lol #pokeposting

It was. Honestly not that crazy, but everyone was freaked out anyways. Oh also I still has the alumni's Instagram account blocked.

So at 7:30pm after Isya and dinner, we were supposed to attend a lecture to end the day. You know how it goes. A lecturer, typically an ustadz, tells you some sad shit about your parents until you cry and pray for them. Yada yada yada you know the drill.

Interestingly, the lecturer happened to be an alumni who also graduated from FH UI. Funnily enough he kept bragging about it at the start of the lecture. Us 10th graders at the time were like "okay is this supposed to be an inspirational lecture or something?" It's not!

It starts light with the parents stuff, with a video of some sad story about a parent and a kid (I remembered it's about a father who's blind.) And then he starts showing the graphic birth video. And then a brain operation video saying how "it's amazing how God makes all this"

The 10th graders were freaked out. Even the OSIS were freaked out. A kid got a panic attack. It was about 9pm and he still haven't stopped the lecture. The OSIS realizing they were running behind schedule told the alumni that he should end the lecture. He refused. Continues the lecture and yells at the OSIS saying how important this will all be when we grow up and how all of us will thank him.

The OSIS thinked fast and sneaked some of us out the lecture hall. The alumni was furious when he realized, and went on a rant about it and yells at everyone in the room. In the end the teachers (who were on a break quite far from the lecture hall) realized what's going on and deescalates the situation. The alumni got yelled at by our most brutal math teacher. Thanks miss math teacher.

I occasionally wish to reach out to old friends/acquaintances I haven't spoken to since high school/some other even earlier time in my life, but I have SOOO little social energy even for required tasks (like making dr phone calls or etc), I never have any leftover for extra ones, and it would be very odd to message someone I haven't spoken to in like 5 years out of the blue but then take 4 entire months to respond back lol.. My natural curiosity with nostalgia/collecting details of the past/etc. (literally if I were born a little earlier I would definitely do scrapbooking or something lol) is very strong, but, alas, not strong enough to beat out the Social Issues Demons apparently

#facebook always does that 'here's a post from this day 8 years ago' thing. and I see old comments interacting #with people and it's so like.. OOOOO~~ where are they now?? what's going on? how much have they changed as people?#how much are they the same? this is fascinating. i should contact them!!' but then it's like... take that to it's logical conclusion though #you would contact them and then IF they even responded it would take you 80 years to respond and then they would #think there was something wrong or that you were trying to be insulting or something. To contact anyone I need to include an 85 page #disclaimer of all of my social issues & mental illness things. 'If i take 3 weeks to reply I promise it has nothing to do with u' etc lol #THIS is why more people need to be into phone calls/voice calls/some form of audio real time communication/etc.#I think one of the main things that's hard about messaging through text for me is it's so unscheduled and open ended #(plus it takes forever if you're talking about anything in detail and gets very long very quickly)#because like you can send a message and then just get a reply whenever. and then you're expected to reply back whenever #so it's like you never know when the response will come or when a new obligation to reply can come up? so it's like this sudden thing with #no outline?? if that makes sense. whereas a phone call is very like 'hello let's schedule a call from 10am - 2pm on thursday'. And you know #EXACTLY when the interaction will start and EXACTLY when it will end and you can plan around it in your schedule easily.#I have the reverse thing of a lot of people (how people don't pick up phone calls/hate calls/only text)#I would literally talk on the phone with a stranger. I would have a discord voice chat with someone I barely know.#if someone I hardly even remember from elementary school asked to have a voice call with me out of nowhere I would do it.#but if a stranger MESSAGED me?? or someone I barely know sent me a TEXT or something?? I will never reply probably #It's just too vague and weird. and you can't read voice tone over text. and the interaction could last forever with no clear end #point and etc. etc. But a call is like. set. established. clear boundaries. you can read the flow of conversation better. rapport. etc. etc #I get that I guess people feel more anonymous or distanced over text?? but you can have fake phone numbers on the computer. or do like disc #rd calls. or zoom without a camera or etc. etc. Also the distance that's present in text is BAD distance because it just means that tone is #not conveyed properly and you will never truly get a sense of the person's conversational vibe or mannerisms or how well you really click.#ANYWAY ghgjh...... I'm so so so interested in concepts of like.. How did that one kid I used to talk to in elementary school #but then they moved away in 5th grade - how did they end up? what are they doing now?? etc. etc. Like despite the severe social anhedonia #and general lack of connection with others I'm just really fascinated in like.. idk. the human development of it all and like #the concept of how we're actually a million different people through the course of our lives ever evolving in different iterations and etc.#PLUS again. i love nostalgia. sometimes old peple you know might remember a shared memory or can tell you about something you forgot #or etc. like it's SUCH A COOL THING in CONCEPT but I am too socially inept generally speaking lol. which people I still talk to today are #familiar with my 'phone call once every few months' communication style. but strangers would just be like... wtf. #i keep going back nad just typing on this when im watching lectures LMAO i don't even necessarily agree with myself anymore on all of it #it is 2024 and i have been thinking about hardenshipping all month. it is 2014 and i h #i can't even hide behind nostalgia though i played alpha sapphire early 2022 LOL this is just who i am #honestly though i consider my parents not getting me a copy of oras when i was a kid to be some kind of real tragedy can you imagine if i'd #had a 7 year head start. i mean i didn't have a 3ds until 2016 but at the time i would have literally sold my kidney to play oras #i love hoenn a lot though just bc as a kid most of the pokemon anime i would watch was dvds from the library cause i didn't have cable #so it was just the gen 1-4 seasons and i looooooved the gen 3 ones and the gen 3 movies soo much destiny deoxys was on repeat me and my #brother watched it like once a week i still love that movie. so i do have a lot of hoenn nostalgia. Earthspark should do a Halloween episode. And a Thanksgiving episode. And a Christmas episode. Given that the Terrans are interested in learning a lot about Earth culture, it would be a missed opportunity if we don't actually get an episode of each holiday, and I can see some interesting plot ideas for each one. The Halloween one could have the Terrans meeting some more of the kids in Witwicky or Philadephia who are Robby and Mo's friends. The Thanksgiving episode could actually introduce more of the extended Malto family, or have a small cameo of a Transformer balloon at the not-Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade or Optimus having to pardon a turkey. The Christmas one could explore the different celebrations at that time of year, maybe have the Terrans experience snow for the first time, or have them meet Santa Claus or whatever. Earthspark is just good for a bunch of holiday centric episodes.

I saw the words "introduce more of the extended Malto family" and my first thought was LET THE TERRANS MEET THEIR GRANDPARENTS IF THEY NOW HAVE ANY

Give us the most loving grandparents that seem like they came out of a kids cartoon to the already rich in mentor / familial figures Terrans. Because I think that would be sweet and hilarious as hell.

I feel like a Halloween episode would be a rather good detective episode too ngl (that or an episode involving Tarantulas again!)

Also the Maltobots experiencing snow for the first time!

Okay the idea of Optimus getting to pardon a turkey gives me the image of him literally carrying around a turkey everywhere the entire episode, and he either gives it a goofy name or a funnily formal name.

I'd love love love to see more of Alex and Dot's life before they got involved with the transformers (at the least stuff from before the war ended), and them meeting with family and doing all the holiday stuff is a perfect opportunity

They probably wouldn't even dare do it in canon but I just got the lovely idea of someone trying their best to get Megatron and Optimus under the mistletoe

Hell I don't care if it's some generic funny in universe holiday, considering how we saw mother's day I feel like that's less likely, but it'd be still fun because it conveys what I'm focusing on myself: the sense of family and learning new things we see consistently throughout the series with the Maltos.
