Lunations 2024: Solar Eclipse in Libra
This month brings a solar eclipse in Libra on October 2nd. It will last for eight minutes - will it be the eight minutes that change the world? Read on.
This month begins with a solar eclipse in Libra on October 2nd at 18:46 (UT). It’s an annular solar eclipse and it will last for nearly eight minutes. As I wrote this, I started to get a sense of ‘deja vu’, so I looked at the post I wrote about last year’s solar eclipse in Libra. At that time, the news cycles were dominated by the awful events that were playing out in Israel and Gaza, with…

Solar Eclipse October 2024 in Libra: Preparing for New Beginnings
On October 2, 2024, we experience a new moon solar eclipse at 10 degrees of Libra. This transit impacts individuals with planets and aspects between 5-15 degrees of this sign the most. But it likewise influences individuals with planets and aspects in Gemini, Aquarius, Aries, Cancer, and Capricorn at the same degrees. This eclipse follows the lunar eclipse in Pisces in September 2024. Libra’s…

October 2024 Important Dates
AKA my notes on The Astrology Podcast's October Forecast, hosted by Chris Brennan and Austin Coppock.
Here's a graphic from honeycomb.co showing the exactness of planetary transits throughout the month as well:
September Recap: We're starting the month in the middle of eclipse season (there was a lunar eclipse in Pisces on September 17th). Chris talks about how the biggest intensity of events usually occurs within 10 days on either side of an eclipse. For example, on the 10th there was the US Presidential debate, which fell in Harris's 10th house/North Node and indeed represented an improvement in her public image. The Vice Presidential debate also takes place today, October 1st, right before the next eclipse. Another Pisces eclipse story is the second assassination attempt on Trump--Chris & Austin connect these to the close square of Uranus on his natal Mars and on top of his natal Midheaven. Using nativities, Chris points out that for the past 20 years the winning presidential candidate has had an eclipse in an angular house, which would point towards Harris winning. However, using zodiacal releasing, Trump is set to enter a new era of prominence in April of next year--whether from presidency or another set is unclear. There are a lot of factors indicating this year's election (and the time between then and the inauguration period!) will be confusing and full of surprises.
Another eclipse story is Israel's attack on Lebanon--the pagers were detonated on the day of the Pisces eclipse. The current war in Palestine began under last year's Libra eclipse, and escalation with Iran occurred along an eclipse as well. They predict October 2nd may very well be the date Israel starts a ground offensive into Lebanon, with implications of a regional war (A/N: this episode was recorded September 29th). There will be another eclipse in Aries before the nodes move off this axis, but the Pisces eclipse's coincidence with the electronics attacks and assassination of Nasrallah may be foreshadowing another 2 years of conflict.
The Pisces eclipse also highlighted Saturn's transit through Pisces: the OceanGate submarine wreck was finally found (crushed during Saturn rx), as well as the sunken wreck of the Erebus, a 19th-century polar exploration vessel. In other water disasters, Hurricane Helene ravaged much of the Appalachian US, the worst storm in a century for many cities and small towns. There were also devastating floods in Europe, Nigeria, and India and typhoons hitting much of East Asia.
October 2nd - Solar eclipse in Libra
Immediately afterwards, the Sun and Moon move towards a square with Mars, boding ill for world events with its significations of war, anger, and aggression. Eclipses on a particular axis often indicate a series of events over about a year and a half (this one began early October), so we know already know which stories are going to wrap up to make way for something new. In our personal lives changes may be for the better--for example, for one viewer this indicates the end of a relationship making room for a new one. Mercury has just separated from a cazimi with the Sun (11♎), and Mars is waiting at 15 Cancer to square all of these planets after they conjoin each other. The changes will take place abruptly, jarringly, and painfully for some. Eclipses shock us, even when they're positive. Mars-Mercury indicates arguments, fighting words, and foul language (goes direct at 17 Libra/Cancer on the 6th). Be careful with your words, as this may represent a longer conflict than you realize, as Mars enters its pre-retrograde shadow period soon after:
Like all retrogrades, Mars brings revisions, repeats, and unexpected delays. With Mars hanging out in the same few degrees of Cancer & Leo for awhile, we'll be spending a lot of time and energy in those areas of our chart. Mars retrograde can work well for those born under one, though--for Mars rx natives sometimes it's when big projects finally come to fruition with them.
During the Mars-Mercury conflict, we will have some support: Venus (14♏) will trine Saturn (14♓) on the 4th-5th, and on the 8th she'll (18♏) trine Mars (18♋) with reception. She comes in to offer a bit of a salve after the chafing of Mars contacts. Also on that day, soon-to-retrograde Jupiter (21♊) will trine Mercury (21♎) with reception, soothing some of the previous hard aspect to Mars. These are the kinds of situations where a terrible accident occurs, but you miraculously escape major injury. This can also represent extremes of good and bad happening at the same time.
October 6th - Mercury square Mars (discussed above)
October 9th - Jupiter stations retrograde He's going to hang out in the same few degrees of Gemini for a long time. See eclipse above for some details on transits leading up to this.
October 11th - Pluto stations direct From the 11th-13th Pluto, while slowing down and stationing, squares Mercury as the inner planet moves from Libra to Scorpio. We've been having Pluto stations in Capricorn since 2008-9, and this is the last he'll be in Capricorn for the rest of any of our lifetimes. Mercury brings the underworld planet's hidden matters to light: think investigative journalism, mystery stories, and exposés on dark scandals. Conversely, we can also see manipulation, control, and suppression of information by forces who prefer to remain in the shadows. Pluto is like a doorway to the underworld: it both plunges things into obscurity and brings up secrets from the depths. This is one last burst of intensity in late Capricorn/cardinal signs for those of us who've been feeling its effects--think of molting, with its vulnerabilities and benefits alike. This also marks the end of the United States' Pluto return--an uncertain evaluation of the next 250 years.
October 13th - Mercury enters Scorpio
October 14th - Sun square Mars While the Sun (21♎) squares Mars (21♋) with Jupiter (21♊) attempting to mediate by trining the Sun, Venus (26♏) opposes Uranus (26♉). With Uranus-Venus we may see some surprises in our relationships. (Chris notes Mercury is at 01Scorpio this day, same as Kamala Harris's natal chart, so the news will probably be about her.)
October 17th - Aries Full Moon, Venus enters Sagittarius
Normally we'd breathe a sigh of relief that eclipse season is over, but the luminaries (🌙:24♈,🌞:24♎) are coming right off a square to Mars (22♋), and are headed right into a square with Pluto (29♑). Thus, by the end of the month, Mars and Pluto begin to oppose each other, an intense configuration that will stay with us for the rest of the year thanks to Mars's retrograde. Don't ignore the little issues that Mars is highlighting in your life; nip things in the bud or keep an eye on them because the problems will only intensify over the next few months. The Mars-Pluto opposition will go exact right around election day in the US, or early November. Thus this full moon sets an ominous tone for the months ahead.
Mars signifies cutting, separation, and conflict, while Pluto takes themes to their utmost extremes, making the small massive and the massive small (think of a mushroom cloud explosion borne from mere atoms colliding). Combined, this indicates annihilation, survival responses, severe overreactions, power struggles, aggression & confrontations, manipulation and control. Other keywords are ruthlessness, forcefulness, and lashing out at perceived enemies, real or imagined. Pluto really enjoys hidden power as well--we may fall for decoys of where the real power lies. Unfortunately this strongly overshadows the US election. Overall, with Pluto involved we can't see clearly, so paranoia and conspiracies abound. It can also indicate horrific acts coming to light, like CBS News publishing the first photographs of torture at Abu Ghraib during the Mars-Pluto opposition of late April 2004, and financial developments like the 2008 bank crashes.
In our personal lives, this may be a period of extreme mental or physical exertion where you accomplish more than you thought possible. Austin cautions us not to react to negative things in a way that makes the situation worse, which is our impulse with Mars in Cancer. Sometimes we have to accept that events beyond our power--control what you can and accept what you can't. Uranus in Taurus will also get folded into this background tension via sextile with Pluto.
October 22nd - Sun enters Scorpio
October 25th - Auspicious electional date
This is a difficult month, but if you have to do something important, the 25th is a good time. A few different times will work; Chris likes around 3PM local time, adjusting until the Ascendant is at about 20 Aquarius. This makes the ruler Saturn in the 2nd house in a day chart, good for financial matters. The Leo Moon applies to a sextile with Jupiter, boding well for earthly events--as long as you can catch it when the moon is applying (at a lower degree; moving towards the aspect) rather than separating (at a higher degree, moving away). (Viewers on the West Coast of the US, for example, may have to move it back a day.) With 20Aquarius rising you get a nice, supportive trine from Jupiter in the 5th house, good for games and leisurely activities. Venus in the 11th house is also helpful, and in Denver they were able to get her near the Midheaven as well, though it's not a dealbreaker if you can't get that to line up. Venus in the 11th, ruled by Jupiter, does well with friends and alliances. Furthermore, though she is applying to a square with Saturn, in this chart it has her in contact with the Ascendant ruler, affirming and supporting you and the actions you take at this time. Not recommended for health or routine matters with a cranky day chart detriment Mars in the 6th house, and beware of Pluto in the 12th house of hidden enemies and self-undoing. Thus, it's not ideal, but we can get some things done.
October 28th - Venus square retrograde Saturn Venus would normally be happy to get out of her detriment Scorpio and into a neutral sign like Sagittarius, but she has to get past this square to Saturn before she can really party. However, this does put her in a whole-sign opposition to Jupiter while being received by him (in his domicile), giving a silver (copper) lining to everything else going on. When one benefic is setting, the other is rising for us.
October 30th - Mercury opposes Uranus (not pictured) At 25 of Scorpio and Taurus respectively, this may be an "October surprise" news scandal (or events in our personal lives).

Happy new moon 🌑 in Libra ♎️/ solar eclipse (ring of fire 🔥)
This is a potent time of releasing to receive new beginnings. Letting go of old habits, patterns, ways of relating that could be causing harm or stagnation. A focus on relationships, self care, beauty, money, creativity etc. But especially since this moon connects to the south node currently: there may be past issues brought up to be looked at and addressed. Libra is a balancing sign, so we must weigh things carefully on the scales ⚖️. Any past relationship issues can be closed out and released at this time. Closing out cycles and karmic patterns. Eclipses can bring some heavier energy at times, forcing us to look at the shadow side of ourselves, so it’s also a good time to get some rest and take time in processing and reflecting on current changes. And especially when it comes to love and how we express it in our daily lives. How do you love ❤️ and want to be loved in this life?
May this be a potent time of renewal 🍂🍁✨🧚🏼🧡🍇 and joy.

New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra October 2024: Rising Through the Darkness
You’re not going crazy, it’s just Eclipse Season. The upcoming New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra, occurring on October 2nd, 2024, invites us to reflect on our relationships, let go of things that no longer align with our karmic destiny, and take back our power. Even in our darkest moments, we have the opportunity to surrender and honor the transformation unfolding in our favor. Reflecting on…

Energy Update: October 2024
October is a “9” Universal Month [10 (October) + 8 (2024) = 18 = 1+8=9] in a “8” Universal Year. In numerology, “9” is the number of completions and endings. For some, big projects will finally be coming to fruition. Others of us may be dealing with endings, for good or ill. This aligns with the month’s astrological energy, which includes our last solar eclipse in Libra in this lunar node cycle and some significant planetary shifts.
The Set Up
We begin the month with the Sun and Mercury in Libra, Venus in Scorpio, Mars in Cancer, Jupiter in Gemini, retrograde Saturn and Neptune in Pisces, retrograde Uranus in Taurus, and retrograde Pluto in Capricorn. By month’s end, the Sun and Mercury will have moved into Scorpio and Venus into Sagittarius. Additionally, Jupiter will have retrograded, and Pluto will station direct. Mars will also have entered its pre-retrograde shadow in Cancer.
The Nitty Gritty
The month begins with a bang with a solar eclipse at 10° Libra on the second. Otherwise, all eyes are on Pluto, who is on its last legs in Capricorn for the next two months, and Mars, who is entering its pre-retrograde shadow. These three events not only set the tone for the month but will ripple through the rest of the year and into the coming one ahead.
Our Lights: The Sun and the Moon
The Sun will spend 3/4 of the month in the cardinal air sign of Libra and the last bit in the fixed water sign of Scorpio. This is our last Libra season before our lunar nodes switch to the Pisces-Aries axis in January of 2025, and we all have one final reckoning to meet around the themes of independence vs. togetherness. We’re coming out of a pandemic that highlighted both ends of this spectrum: on the one hand, we all felt the loneliness and isolation of the quarantine times, but on the other, it took a considerable amount of working together to create and distribute novelle vaccines to the entire world. We all got a deeper glimpse into how big and how small our lives really are. How interconnected, but also how separate.
I don’t mean to downplay this event or the trauma it has caused us all, but instead, to emphasize its complexity. What I have found the most fascinating about these past four years is how differently people experienced and synthesized these moments—sometimes even people who lived in the same house as one another! When somebody we loved could understand our experience with the pandemic, we felt more connected; when they did not, we felt more isolated.
Although this certainly isn’t over, it IS a good analogy for what is happening inside all of us and what is being highlighted by this last Libra eclipse on the Aries-Libra axis. All of us, every human on this planet, have a baseline of where we fall on the individuality to connectedness scale. Some of this comes straight out of our natal birth charts – Aries, often, are quite independent, and Libras are most certainly not. But our backgrounds, experiences, triumphs, and traumas all shape who we are and what we are comfortable with. We have all been forced to look at where we fall on this scale; we have all been weighed, and some of us have been found wanting. I don’t mean to imply a universal right or wrong in this regard, but there may often be for a certain place at a certain time.
Then you have two choices: You can adapt, or you can leave and find a place that is more to your liking.
Because the Aries-Libra axis is one of independence and connectedness, relationships have been on the hot seat for a long two years. Many of us really had to consider whether what we were doing (and with whom we were doing it) was worth the sunk cost. I don’t just mean Big R Romantic relationships here, either. All human interactions are relationships. Some will be worth every effort we put into them. And others were never worth our time.
All of this will come to a head leading into our solar eclipse on 10/02 because Libra is the sign of relationships and togetherness. This is a mixed energy eclipse as it involves the energy of a new moon conjunct to the energy of the South Node, our axis of past-facing fate. Also, our two relationship signs (Venus in Scorpio and Mars in Cancer) will be in a wide grand trine with retrograde Saturn in Pisces. Many people will ask themselves, “Is this really meant to be?” and likely coming up short. Because, after all, is ANYTHING truly meant to be? This astrologer says no, not that way anyway; that’s just not how fate works.
But this isn’t a post about synastry and how we fulfill lessons in each other’s lives. It’s about the cosmic, often overdue, realization that you cannot live for another person – you must live for yourself. That’s the lesson of our North Node in Aries, and we’re almost out of time.
Some relationships will end in and around the solar eclipse, that’s just the way of things. It may be hard, and it may really fucking hurt. But people who can’t agree on what a relationship means, who can’t bend and align to live a life together with interconnectedness rather than codependence, well, they really aren’t meant to be, aren’t they?
I know that there are some Libra types out there who have never learned this lesson and who are very mad at me for writing this. What can I say? I have an Aries moon. That’s my bias. Do you know what yours is?
This new moon is a 5/5 moon.
7 (Libra moon) + 7 (Libra Sun) = 14 – 1+4 = 5. 5 (Libra new moon) + 9 (October 2024) = 14 = 1+4 =5.
5 is a bit of a warning, a conflict number. This aligns with the energy of the eclipse pretty seamlessly. It’s not that what is meant to be is easy, per se, but when you are well aligned, you can get through conflicts easily. Pay attention to that during the eclipse and the days surrounding it.
Otherwise, our Sun squares off with Mars in Cancer on 10/14, which will be a rough-and-tumble fighty sort of day. Be ready to get into it, or step the fuck out of the way. You might be able to channel this cardinal energy into a project if you’ve got a well-aspected Mars in your natal birth chart but don’t push your luck with other people during this time. The Sun’s trine with Jupiter on the 13th may smooth things over, but only if you’re especially lucky. (Jupiter is retrograde and in its exile, after all)
Our full moon on 10/17 falls at 24° Aries and will pull in a lot of energy from our Sun-Mars square and our total solar eclipse last April through the Moon’s conjunction with Chiron. Our solar eclipse was at 19° Aries and was part of a major stellium between the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, and Chiron. Now slow-moving Chiron is still sitting at 21°, holding that wound.
This is an 8/8 full moon.
1 (Aries Moon) + 7 (Libra Sun) = 8. 8 (Aries Full Moon) + 9 (October 2024) = 17 = 1+7 = 8.
8 is the number of the ouroboros and the infinity sign; it is a reminder that what comes around goes around. Everything that goes up must come back down, and vice versa. Expect the highest highs and the lowest lows on an 8 moon, which is a double 8 moon. You can work with the Stength card or the Wheel of Time in the tarot to further this energy.
As the Sun prepares to exit Libra on 10/22, it forms a quick square with Pluto in Capricorn, repeating the theme of endings this month. Pluto is the planet of death and transformation, and he will be in Capricorn for a scant two months more for the next two hundred years! If you couldn’t put it down on the eclipse, do it now.
This energy will shift rapidly as we exit our very last eclipse cycles and enter Scorpio season. Things may get dark and moody, but they will certainly feel less fated as our luminaries pull away from our lunar nodes.
Mars
Mars gets near-to-the-top billing this month as it enters its pre-retrograde shadow on 10/04. This retrograde will occur between 06° Leo and 17° Cancer, so the switchover from cardinal to fixed sign will be in the hot seat for the next seven months. You read that right: 7 months from 10/2 when Mars enters its pre-retrograde shadow to 5/2 when it exits its post-retrograde cycle.
I feel like we’re in for a reminder here. All retrogrades happen in three stages as the planet will pass over the same points in the horoscope wheel thrice: first in forward motion (the pre-retrograde shadow), secondly when moving backward in retrograde, and thirdly as it moves forward the final time in its post-retrograde shadow. This is why (how?) retrogrades tend to bring with them our deepest lessons: any aspect that Mars makes with your chart will happen three times in the next seven months.
I will explore this energy more in my Mars retrograde Update, but the transition from cardinal to fixed signs is one of actualization. Cardinal signs are the searching signs and the first signs of the season. Fixed signs are the root signs; they take what the cardinal sign has uncovered and plant it/make it solid. Mars is the planet of action. Retrogrades are a time of re-s: we get to rethink, revise, revisit, renovate.
Mars will be in the pre-retrograde shadow phase for the entire month. During this phase, Mars will be in aspect with all of our personal planets and Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and Chiron. Because this astrological event lasts for seven months, we can acknowledge the Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Venus as a part of this story. However, we know they will be across the horoscope and into Taurus season by the time this transit resolves. Our outer planets and Chiron move much slower; they are the meat of this retrograde cycle.
This is looking ahead a lotta bit (but this will go until May 2025 so stay with me here), but this theme of hoovering on the edge between two planets (which Mars will now embody) has been in place all year as Pluto moves back and forth over the line between Capricorn and Aquarius. Now, looking ahead to 2025, Uranus will do so on the line between Taurus and Gemini and Neptune between Pisces and Aries. On top of that, our lunar nodes change signs in January!
Mars can get a little bit off of its game when so much is going on. Mars is also in its fall in Cancer., where it will be all month.
If you don’t know where to turn or what path to take, know you are right on time. It’s frustrating AF, I’m sure, but it is a part of the process. As we transition into this new era, many of us are finding that the ground underneath us has shifted. What made sense before may not make sense now.
You can consider these next seven months our planetary adjustment zone.
Things to remember: Cancer is considered the fall of Mars because the crab doesn’t move in a straight line. The crab is also known for holding on for dear life, so maybe work on loosening that death grip (you know what I mean if that is intended for you).
This will affect everyone because Mars is one of our personal planets. Mars is also the one personal planet that is beyond the Earth, which means that it works a little bit differently from Mercury and Venus. Mars isn’t tied to the Sun, which seems important to note here. These are the people that will be most affected by our Mars retrograde. Note here that you may have more than one and each compounds.
Anyone with Sun, Moon, or Ascendant between 00-06° of the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) or 17-29° of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) with additional emphasis on Cancer and Leo/conjunctions
Anyone with Mars in those degrees of any sign (but the ones listed above most specifically)
Anyone with Mercury of Venus in those signs/degrees
Any Aries or Scorpio Sun or Moon
Anyone with a Mars dominant chart
Anyone with a luminary or personal planet between 00-06° Aries and Sagittarius or 17-29° Scorpio and Pisces
I’ll get into what this means more as we start working through this transit (I have seven months to write about it, apparently), but it’s time to become aware right now. And to give yourself grace is your work – whatever that means to you – happens more slowly.
Mercury
Mercury will be in Libra until the 13th when it enters Scorpio. In Libra, it will square off with Mars in Cancer, which may make the days around the 6th challenging and bitey. The next day, it will trine Jupiter in Gemini, so this likely won’t have any lasting effects.
Before it enters Scorpio, it will square Pluto on 10/13. I think this may feel like a bit of a release. This is the last time Mercury will square Pluto while Pluto is still in Capricorn. This day may feel somber, as if the hollows are extra hollow. You can work with that.
Mercury in Scorpio trines retrograde Saturn in Pisces on 10/22, reminding us of where we’ve been and how far we have come in the last four years. This will sit better with some people than with others, and it may be a deeply emotional day for some. At the end of the month, Mercury meets up with Neptune and Uranus as it begins to make moves to switch signs again. This could be intense for some, but it will mostly pass uneventfully.
Venus
While Mars is mired in its pre-retrograde shadow all month in Cancer, we look to Venus to see if we will get anywhere at all. Both Venus and Mars are our two movement planets; their interactions with each other show us how we attract (Venus) and go out and get (Mars) what we want. The world will run a bit smoother when Venus and Mars are better aligned. People will get along better. The two, especially poorly maligned, have indications for war and other human-made calamities.
Venus begins the month in the fixed water sign Scorpio until 10/17, when it enters the mutable fire sign of Sagittarius. As the Morning Star, Venus is at full speed, rushing ahead of the Sun. For as long as the Sun is in Libra, Venus will be our guiding planet, and she will be the intense watery depths of Scorpio. Note here that this is the sign of Venus’s exile as it is the opposite sign of Taurus, its domain.
Venus in Scorpio can be quixotic and demanding. She may not tell you what she really wants but instead, expect the world to read her mind. Monsters are lurking in those depths. She does have magnetism, though, something that Venus LIKES. This may be why Scorpio is the sign of Venus’s exile; Venus loves the power that Scorpio provides her, and that much is clear. The problem comes when the rest of the world doesn’t exactly enjoy how she is yielding that power.
Great responsibility and all that…
Venus in Scorpio trines Mars in Cancer on 10/08, which is generally indicative of lovey-dovey weather. It’s worth noting here that retrograde Saturn is a part of this equation and in a grand trine to them both during this event. Yeah, sure, love might be in the air, but consequences are also on the table. This is echoed twice as Mars has just entered his pre-retrograde shadow. Stay aware of who you cuddle up with during this time; what glitters may not be gold.
If you’ve said yes before and the two of you love getting mushy together, this will be a great day to have a watery date. Real Valentine’s Day energy. But, like with V-Day, it may be better to sit it out of you don’t trust your potential date. And definitely don’t sign any contracts (romantically speaking).
We will still be a bit hung over from our solar eclipse, which was all about the pitfalls of relationships. Don’t do somebody that day just to have somebody to do it, if you catch my drift.
Venus will lighten up some once she enters Sagittarius, but she, too, needs to come clean with Pluto on the way out of Scorpio. Again, some romantic relationships are not meant to make it all the way to November this year. This square with Pluto will be the last time Venus makes a major aspect with Pluto before it exits Capricorn next month.
In Sagittarius, she immediately trines the North Node, again, for the last time before the North Nodes switch signs in January. There are a lot of endings here.
After that, Venus in Sag squares off with retrograde Saturn in Pisces, putting even more tension on the consequences and endings we are experiencing all month.
Jupiter
On 10/09, Jupiter will station retrograde at 21° Gemini. As one of our intermediary planets, Jupiter retrogrades aren’t felt as deeply as those of our personal planets. The days immediately around this retrograde may feel liminal or a bit uneasy, as always happens when a planet stands still in the skies. Jupiter – the planet of expansion – is weaker while it is in retrograde, compounded by the fact that it is in the sign of its exile (Gemini).
Pluto
On 10/11, Pluto will station direct at 29° Capricorn. This is a big shift as it is the final curtain call on our Pluto-in-Capricorn era. In November, Pluto will move into Aquarius for the last time in this cycle. Outer planetary shifts happen very slowly; Pluto changes signs every 15-30 years. It’s the end of an era. Most people won’t feel this personally as this is our outer most dwarf planet, but the effects of this will ripple forward through 2025 and beyond.

2024 Libra New Moon/Eclipse
Wednesday, October 2, 06:49 UT, 10°04’ Libra
Chart erected for Washington, DC
Ordinarily I would rattle off the key phrase for a New Moon - but this one happens to be a solar eclipse, and it’s better not to mess with it. I’m including a lot of information from various sources, to help you make sense of it.
This series of eclipses (Saros Series 8 South) isn’t “fun” - in The Eagle and the Lark, astrologer Bernadette Brady wrote:
Separation and loss. To be parted. To finish something, and to feel sad at its completion. Physical injury is also possible through over-straining one’s strength. This is not the time to undertake strenuous physical activities.
Previous occurrences of this series happened on September 22, 2006, at 29° Virgo; September 11, 1988, at 19° Virgo; and August 31, 1970, at 8° Virgo.
This is also a South Node solar eclipse. The South Node indicates behaviors we have “maxed out” - we have learned everything there is to learn, and we have done everything there is to do; we can no longer make any progress or achieve any growth here. It’s time to reach out to that North Node, using its ruler (Mars/Cancer) for specifics.
Looking at the actual chart: there’s the eclipse, very closely conjunct not only Mercury but both Black Moons Lilith. This is a particular mentality of deliberately not seeing ourselves and others as we really are - of sugar-coating (Libra) reality.
In Finding Our Way through the Dark, Demetra George wrote of Black Moon Lilith:
She forces us to look at ourselves with utter, naked honesty and makes us demand the truth of things, from our families, partners, groups and governments. She is ruthless in destroying any of our life structures or relationships that are built upon a foundation of deception and disrespect, or do not express our true individuality or appropriate life path.
Note also that the eclipse is square both ends of an opposition between Mars/Cancer and Ceres/Capricorn. Nothing like a family member to cut through our crap, is there? But (on the other hand) there’s also familial pressure to “be” a certain way - to assume a particular role in the tribe - whether or not we’re actually suited to that role.
If we throw in the North Node/Aries, we have a Cardinal sign grand cross. Difficult aspects in Cardinal signs are indicative of issues and problems we have been aware of for some little time, but haven’t done anything to address. Steven Forrest wrote,
When the Grand Cross falls in the Cardinal Mode, its main strength lies in boldly initiating action and in attracting support, while the main forms of self-sabotage lie either in starting things that should never been started in the first place, or in failing to follow through on one’s inspired beginnings - the failure to finish what was started…. In the dark expression of Cardinal Grand Cross energy, this sickness manifests as endlessly beginning new projects in a spirit of hope that a new day is dawning, only to lose interest and focus for no obvious reason. (The Book of Air, pp 290-291)
So: let’s look at some of the more negative Libra traits:
Going along to get along
Manipulating people and situations to get one’s own way
“Peace at any price” (see: Neville Chamberlain)
Refusing to take a stand or to commit
Too “refined” and “aesthetic;” superficial
Opting for style over substance
I dunno - it just seems to me that if something must come to an end, maybe it should be something negative? Or maybe some behavior that worked like a charm back in 7th grade, but is no longer valid years later? If all we get out of this is learning how to pray for grace, that would be a good thing.

the 21st century solar eclipse, or whatever
6:15 p.m. October 25 2024 after a bit of work
I clown a lot on Lestappen in my tags because while I admit that they would be the two racers in the current grid with the most potential for their generation's defining rivalry F1, they just don't interact enough for me to actually say it outright like that. Maybe because they're both still young at this level- Max started in 2015, Charles only three years later. They have parallel stories with different mythologies, so there's no friction to be found in their careers apart from the inchident- and even then they both look upon that moment lightheartedly now.
Their astrology actually does follow each other a bit. Aside from the fact that they literally were born sixteen* days apart, their rising signs follow each other- due to the directions, 16's 1H of self falls in 33's 12H of unconsciousness.
Traditionally, 33's ascendant point falling in 16's 2H of self-esteem and value systems would mean that 16 wouldn't notice him as much (2H is hidden from the 1H), 33 has the virtue of having Venus in Scorpio in his 12H- the planet that 16 does see, because it falls right in his 1H, which is incredibly interesting, because 16's Venus is conjunct 33's Ascendant point.
Despite their incredibly martial nature, 16 and 33 both see each other as a connection to be nurtured, not severed, and herein explains my earlier point that this is not a very direct rivalry.
Synastry overlay of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. 16's AA confirmed which means it is accurate to the birth certificate. While 33's had A rating, the birth time came from a copy of an announcement on his own website based on what I assume is a newspaper clip on the day he was born, so that's a bit more reliable than other A-ratings.
To explain- as I mentioned in this post, the planets typically involved in motorsports are Mars and Saturn (with F1 also having Mercury involved in some capacity). When I mention "racing planets" in a racer's chart, I refer to these two, because Mars (speed, war, fuel, fire, combustion, shooting) and Saturn (time, pressure, heaviness, steel, iron) are also significators of war. All motorsports are tied in one way or another to innovations in engines** and transportation machinery that happened becauuuuse those people got booted out of a job*** and had to find some way to put their skills to work.
33 and 16 have Mars and Saturn in the same signs, due to the time it takes for either planets to move (Saturn stays in the same sign for approx. 2.5 years, Mars in 6-7 weeks). In theory, they both share the same potential for racing. Their fallen Saturn answers to Mars, and Mars is ruled by Jupiter in Aquarius. You would think they would have the same style of driving, and way of doing stuff, or that one person doesn't exceed the other.
However, no placement or aspect exists in a vacuum- you have to take the whole chart into consideration. And with these two, it always, always come down to Venus- the planet of beauty, resources, connection, and pleasure.
If Mars and Saturn (+Mercury) is F1 The Sport, then Venus, the planet that traditionally rules the arts (and therefore film and television) is F1 The Event.
Remember- both 33 and 16 are Libra suns. Their personality is ruled by their Venus sign, which sits completely differently in their charts, no matter how much they echo each other.
The difference is very, very clear in the public perception and the incredible imagery that basically writes itself.
Sagittarius also signifies foreign cultures as well as travel. F1 is a worldwide motorsport, with multicultural racers****, but here in Mexico (a country with a very beautiful and showy Leo Venus), we see the difference between these two Libra Suns. 33's Sagittarius rising with Mars in first = He wore the sombrero when he won the 2023 Mexico Grand Prix, coming up on the podium after he won the race (Mars = competition). He wore a cape with Checo a few days ago too! 16's Sagittarius Venus combined with Mars = He wore a whole mariachi costume and committed to the bit alongside his whole team at Ferrari during the 2024 Mexico GP (Venus = collaboration). He and Carlos wore luchador masks as well, but Carlos and his Virgo placements would not be caught dead repping something that's not his assigned uniform during a work event.
Libra Sun (fallen) opposite Aries Saturn (fallen)
Sun-Saturn aspects are common among racing drivers, especially since most of them got into the sport because of family. Condition of the Sun signifies the father in natal charts as well, which is why this placement sees the racing planet that is in charge of building a foundation and the progress of time. Both of them have been racing since kids, and 33 especially- a rude observation to make would be his dad sniping his mother, who was reportedly better at karting than her husband and her son's team principal but had to give up her dreams to be his mother.
16's Libra-Aries axis sits in the 12H-6H, which are houses of service and self-sacrifice (the disintegration of the self that comes from being of service). Unlike 33, he has Moon and Mercury in Libra involved in this axis. It's not just 16's father (Sun) who is involved in his work (6H), but also his mother (Moon) and sibling (Mercury).
33 lacks this. I've mentioned in previous posts that the planets that traditionally signify women and creation in his life (Moon and Venus) make aspects to each other, but not to his racing. In order to tap into that creative, nurturing energy, he has to leave the racetrack. Though they "look" supportive, as Venus (wife) in Scorpio while Moon (Mother) and Mercury (sibling) sit in the houses next to his Sun (Self/Father), they don't really have any say, power, or influence in the axis of his racing planets.
16's Moon conj. Saturn also explained his expressiveness, and why people keep making memes (Jupiter-ruled 5H of playfulness) of his depressed face every time the cameras get to him. For a 12H sun, 16 is an incredibly public figure, which does come at a damaging price for his own mental health. It would be good for him to take media blackouts or just straight up don't tell anyone what he does until he's done it, because that dissolution (12H) of his self (Sun) does haunt him at night.
33's Libra-Aries axis sits in his 11H-5H. Both 11H and 5H are houses of community and personal expression- one is for networking, the larger group, how you bend yourself to society. It is the internet, and society outside of you.
It is incredibly fulfilling for him, racing. The entire ecosystem of it. Even the virtual form of it makes him happy, Sim Racing. His Virgo placements like checking off goals off a list, which is why he's good at rules lawyering. He gets community from the internet (11H) through his sim racing (5H = games), and thanks to the general Venusian quality of his 11H this is just a fun quirk for him instead of something debilitating.
However, the fallen aspect of his L11 is still in place. He was banned from Sim Racing before race weekends after it was found out that he lashed out and made a reckless divebomb in a race, as he was up playing Sim Racing until 3 a.m.
Lack of sleep in general is detrimental to his racing. So is being out in public. So is associating with any women (his mom and sister being exceptions, protected as such by his North Node****** and their ruler's exaltations- they can handle themselves); which is why any relationship or daughter of his has to be kept secret because his 11H (community) does not look kindly, nor do they understand or accept his relationships with women, as it is a side of himself that exists outside of what makes him the best racehorse in the racehorse competition.
Another thing to note- 16's Libra I Sun is separating from Saturn, going away from the malefic's harsh rays. 33's Libra III is applying to Saturn, getting nearer to it.
16 will physically get better after that wringer. 33 will work towards a brand new sense of self, which is going to be hard for him, because he doesn't have the same tools or support as 16 does to easily find himself outside of racing.
I wouldn't be surprised if they go their separate ways after 2026. 33 has been hinting at retirement for these past few races, while 16 has signed a multi-year contract with his company. Their Saturn return that year will lead them towards different places= 16 for work/health/daily routines, while 33 for play/children/romance.
Bonus: Scuderia Ferrari and Red Bull Racing
They are, quite literally, the poster boys for both teams at this point in time.
33 doesn't seem to care about moving to other companies despite the open air of talking about other contracts a while ago, perhaps because of some sense of loyalty to the Red Bull team, and there's no way in hell 16 will walk away from the loving embrace of Scuderia Ferrari unless he's ripped out of it by some force of nature.
Both have 12pm generated birth times because we're just here to check the general activity for these two.
(Left) Generated birth chart for Ferrari the racing company. Enzo Ferrari founded Scuderia Ferrari on November 16, 1929 in Modena, Italy before moving it to Maranello in 1943. (Right) Charles is embraced by the Ferrari engineers after a race win. He, like most people working at Ferrari, identify as Tifosi.
The term Lecfosi, referring to 16's fanbase, is also extremely tied to Ferrari, as the company's Scorpio planets fall in his 1H. He is the embodiment of Ferrari's hopes and dreams, Tifosi to the marrow, he doesn't even have to do much for the fairytale and mythology of racing to wrap around him.
The Prince of Monaco, Ferrari's favorite son, the Sun of Maranello, he is incredibly wrapped up in the red of it all. Scorpio as a Mars-ruled sign is red, red, red- it's very tied to his public identity.
Red Bull Racing has two charts, one for the December founding by F1 racing legend Jackie Stewart (Left), and another for Red Bull Energy drink's acquisition of the company (Right, the sale finalized November 19 2004) and subsequent rebranding to Red Bull Racing in 2005. (Center) Max is greeted by the Red Bull Racing team after his 12th consecutive race win during the 2023 Hungary GP.
Depending on which chart applies to the current iteration of the Red Bull company, the team is supporting him very differently.
RBR/Jackie Stewart's company has Mars activating his NN and 10H qualities, the peak of his image, and the Aries Moon providing an emotional charge to his Saturn, the racing planet. This would indicate the emotional ties to the brand itself, though not necessarily the people behind it.
The 2005 RBR which Vettel raced in has the Sun-Mars in his 12H of undoing and unconsciousness, with the benefics highlighting his Libra Sun. This iteration of the company treats him like he came out of a dream. They don't know exactly who they signed but they lucked out with him.
Conclusion:
Lestappen live parallel lives. If we were hoping for a big, earth-shattering, culture-defining rivalry the same way racers in the past did, we won't see it between them.
They are good friends. They will stay that way. They might go the way of Vettel and Raikonnen, but unless the both of them put down their personal ambitions and join a team together, they won't get that.
Charles likes fights, and thrills, and someone to go against- his chart is full of trines and sextiles- good, harmonious flowing aspects in his life. He might not have had the easiest go of it, considering his personal losses, but outside of it he defines himself by the challenges. He is a stinger-out, fight me fight me fight me I will end you type of person. His racetrack adopted son Oscar jokingly-not-jokingly mentioned about bringing NASCAR rules to the gentleman's motorsport, and that's his Charles trait, honestly.
Max is hungry. He has the racing bug. Of course he will be gung-ho for glory and for the sport. He's a purebred warhorse. But unlike Charles- who finds fighting as incidental instead of necessary, who can find symmetry and partnership and support columns all around him- he cannot find it in familiar environment, his close surroundings. He has to go outside of everything he has ever known to get that.
The phenomenon of Maxplaining and Leclerifying, of reaching out for each other during the moments post-race, looking back with fondness for their shared childhood memories... that is genuinely enjoyable for him. Daniel's bravery in switching teams and coming back and all around, their off-screen, off-camera friendship and banter, he likes that. Those connections die for him the moment other people get a glimpse of it. In order to sate that appetite for connection, he has to go to a place where he will be recognized and validated even when he doesn't shoot to kill. I think he's recognizing it, slowly. Only time will tell if he will be brave enough to put down his weapons and start the painfully boring and spiritually rewarding process of carving out a new life for himself.
(30) 3:12 p.m. the next day
*Charles specifically is incredibly prone to fairytale syndrome- Il Predestinato, the Prince of Monaco, Maranello's favorite Sun/Son. Mercury, ruler of his 11H (fanbase) in the 12H of mysticism (prone to narratives out of his control, but his 12H is ruled by Venus too, and has the Sun there as well), asteroid Champion there as well; and asteroid Nike (Victory) in his 3H of familiarity and storytelling. It is also the energy coming from his Scorpio II ASC being the decan associated with Six of Cups- someone giving something back to a child, offering a cup of water after they've cried out their grief in the Five of Cups.

****Sagittarius is the non-Cardinal sign that is most commonly found in F1 racers' charts. Four of the current racers on the grid (These two + Oscar and Checo) have Sagittarius Mars.
*****Personally, I hate the fact that the asteroid Champion is exactly on top of Max's North Node, the appetite that will not be quenched in this lifetime. As if he needed any more reason to not exist outside of racing.

New Moon & Solar Eclipse in Libra - Oct 2nd, 2024
This post released about a week early for folks over on my Patreon! If you haven't signed up yet, be sure to check it out!
This month’s new moon, which will be 10 degrees in the sign of Libra on October 1st/2nd, is a great time to evaluate certain things that seem out of balance for you, and focus on shifting those scales to better suit what you are needing. This is also a wonderful time for re-working relationships – figuring out boundaries, what is or isn’t working for you, and determining if certain relationships are serving you well (or not). Communication is also a very big theme during this new moon!
On top of the new moon, there is also going to be a solar eclipse! Eclipses are time for closing doors and oftentimes energetic shifts that can feel somewhat chaotic. For this event, you can expect to see some shake ups with things that are holding you back – specifically where Libra is ruling certain houses (for example, if your 10th house is in Libra, you may see some changes and challenges in your career).

What does a balanced relationship with yourself look like? Think of things like self-care, work-life balance, and your own inner dialogue.
What does a balanced relationship between yourself and others look like?
How can you improve communication with yourself to better provide a balanced inner dialogue?
Activities
Self-love, communication, and relationship-building (or relationship-ending) rituals
Find one thing that you think would help to bring more balance to your life - maybe it’s more self-care time, more time for social events, or more time working on your spiritual growth. Make a commitment from now until the full moon to try to implement this one thing into your life more. At the full moon, reflect on this change and see if it’s made you feel any more balanced in your life!

Quiet
Tuesday - October 1, 2024
There is a sense of quiet in the skies and in the air today. Don't be fooled - there is certainly a lot of energy brewing beneath the surface. The energies of change, sprinkled in with a little bit of upheaval, and a dash of the unexpected thrown in for good measure.
But today there's quiet. A New Moon Solar Eclipse is within sight, and later today the Moon moves into Libra and out of the rawness of Virgo.
But today there's quiet. A still place for a weary mind, trouble heart, and exhausted soul to just take some refuge in order to unload.
Unload the old, get it off your back. On a day where action is certainly swirling under the surface, your action is to simply sit.
And be quiet.

Super Full Moon in Aries Talon Abraxas
Super Full Moon in Aries: Transform Challenges into Opportunities
On October 17, 07:26 AM EST, a Super Full Moon at 24º34º of Aries takes place. This event invites us to tap into our inner strength and transform challenges into growth opportunities. Despite not being an Eclipse, this Full Moon is a powerful one: besides representing the peak of a lunar cycle that began two weeks ago with the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra, it also marks the culmination of a larger six-month cycle that started on April 8, 2024, with the New Moon Total Solar Eclipse in Aries. This is also a Super Full Moon: the Moon is closer to us than usual and appears bigger and brighter than a regular Full Moon. Due to the Moon’s proximity and increased gravitational pull on the tides, these events are typically felt more intensely.
This event is especially relevant for the individuals born with natal planets or angles around the 24º of Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn). They will feel this Full Moon more strongly and are more likely to experience significant changes in their lives. As a chapter of their healing journey comes to completion, they have opportunities to reflect on the past months, acknowledge their growth, and free themselves from what doesn’t serve them.
Super Full Moon in Aries: Raw Emotions
Full Moons mark the peak point of the lunar cycle: at this time of the month, the Sun and the Moon are directly facing one another and the light of the Sun illuminates our inner, emotional world. Every Full Moon brings our attention to what is unresolved, unfelt, and unacknowledged and offers us opportunities to acknowledge and feel it. Clarity is more easily accessible at this time of the month and what was previously hidden from our awareness is revealed.
Emotions are heightened when the Moon is Full, and even more so when the Moon is transiting through an instinctual, impulsive Fire sign such as Aries, the first sign of the Zodiac. When the Moon is in Aries, we tend to experience a palpable feeling of urgency, along with a strong need for stimulation, novelty, and immediate action.
Under a Super Full Moon in Aries, we experience emotions viscerally and intensely and tend to express them in raw, unfiltered ways. In the sign of the Warrior, a Full Moon can trigger surges of deep-seated anger and frustration. With Aries’ ruler Mars currently traveling through the emotional sign of Cancer, long-held resentments can suddenly surface and be brought into the open.
Balancing Autonomy and Togetherness
Every Full Moon brings our attention to two opposing and complementary signs, and this month the Aries-Libra axis is in the spotlight, which brings our attention to how we harmonize independence and interdependence, freedom and connection, autonomy and togetherness.
The relationship axis is highlighted now, and relationship themes have been in the spotlight for the past weeks, especially since the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra took place. At this point, we can no longer ignore what doesn’t work, what is out of balance, and what has been built on a faulty foundation.
As Eclipse season draws to a close, the Aries Full Moon reminds us that, in order to relate to other people authentically, we must know ourselves and we must be committed to honoring our truth, our needs, and our desires. This event will empower many of us to tap into the courage and strength we need to make bold decisions, set clear boundaries, and walk away from situations that don’t serve our highest good.
Full Moon conjunct Chiron: the Wisdom of Pain
This Full Moon happens at 24º Aries and is conjunct with both Chiron and Eris. Chiron is a celestial body associated with the archetype of the wounded healer and teacher. In Astrology, Chiron represents a very sensitive, tender point in a chart: it is connected to deep vulnerabilities, wounds, and painful existential experiences that reveal life’s inherent unfairness. Chiron’s lessons revolve around the fact that when pain becomes our teacher, we develop a unique kind of compassion and wisdom, one that can’t be developed otherwise.
When Chiron is conjunct with the Moon, emotional healing takes center stage as we are confronted with recurring emotional pain, with wounds that won’t stop bleeding, or that periodically reopen. Chiron teaches us to stay present with our grief and feel our grief without trying to find a solution for it, without trying to fix it.
The Total Solar Eclipse that took place in April was also conjunct with Chiron, and this magnifies the significance of this conjunction. The current Full Moon will help us gain a clear awareness of where we are at in our healing journey, what changed in the last six months, what didn’t change, and what we learned, especially when it comes to relating to our pain.
Around this time, we can expect intense, cathartic emotional releases. While long-buried wounds may resurface or reopen, opportunities for deep healing and resolution will be available too.
Full Moon conjunct Eris: Anger as a Transformative Force
Eris is a dwarf planet that was first discovered in 2003. Because of her recent discovery, we can say that an awareness of our relationship with her energy is still emerging into collective consciousness. Eris needs over 500 years to travel through the Zodiac: she has been in Aries since 1926 and remains in the sign until 2044.
Before receiving her official name, she was temporarily named Xena, after the warrior princess from a popular TV show. Eris was then named after the mythological Goddess of Chaos and Discord, the sister of Ares (the Greek equivalent of Mars) and the daughter of Nyx, the Goddess of the night.
Astrologically, Eris is connected to feminine anger, empowerment, and with the drive to expose the truth and fight for it. She has also to do with the urge to create chaos, discord, and destruction for the sake of it, or for our egoic pleasure.
While her energy can indeed be expressed in very destructive ways, Eris gives us strength to progress in our empowerment journey, rebel from oppression, reclaim our freedom, expose the truth, and reveal dysfunctions. She teaches us that anger, channeled constructively, is the catalyst that helps us stand up for ourselves and walk away from what we refuse to tolerate. On this Full Moon, the invitation for us is to explore how to relate with our anger as a transformative force, rather than a destructive one.
Full Moon square Mars and Pluto: Breaking Points
The Moon in Aries and the Sun in Libra, as well as Chiron and Eris, square both retrograde Pluto in Capricorn and Mars in Cancer, the planetary ruler of this Full Moon. This highly charged configuration can point to an escalation of conflicts and power struggles: as long-accumulated tension erupts into the open, the likelihood of experiencing separations and breaking points increases.
These planets are forming a Cardinal Grand Cross, which consists of planets traveling through all the Cardinal signs, forming two oppositions, and all simultaneously squaring each other. This configuration reflects a buildup of energy that is locked in and needs to find an outlet: Cardinal signs have an inherent need to initiate, and when this impulse is thwarted frustration grows.
The activation of Pluto at 29º of Capricorn and Mars in Cancer, which was also squaring the Solar Eclipse in Libra two weeks ago, pushes us to recognize and release habitual patterns that represented a way to survive in the past but damage us in the present. The prominence of the Cancer-Capricorn axis points to the necessity of healing childhood wounds that keep impacting our lives and our relationships. This is an invitation to take responsibility for our healing and learn to create security for ourselves.
Super Full Moon in Aries: Transform Challenges into Opportunities
The Super Full Moon in Aries invites us to transform our relationship with our anger and strengthen our connection with our passion, with our aliveness, with the pulse of our desire. This event inspires us to keep our inner fire burning, get things moving, and practice expressing intense emotions constructively rather than destructively.
As the Full Moon peaks, Venus in Scorpio and Uranus in Taurus are opposing each other: this aspect indicates that our relationships and values are undergoing a revolution, they are changing in unexpected and unpredictable ways. While we may feel a strong tension between our desire for intimacy and our need for independence, we have an opportunity to break free from styles of relating that don’t serve us and embrace more authentic, liberated ways of connecting with others, aligning with our true values. The Venus-Uranus opposition motivates us to question the status quo and challenge how things have always been done to discover what works for us.
Meanwhile, Jupiter in Gemini is forming a harmonic sextile to Chiron, Eris, and the Full Moon, offering us an escape valve to diffuse the tension of the Grand Cross configuration. The sextile to Jupiter highlights the value of asking questions, being curious, and exploring new ways of attributing meaning to our experiences. Jupiter’s activation highlights the importance of being connected with our truth and finding new opportunities for growth and healing amidst the challenges we may experience.

The key is to just let go into this awake, alive presence. Don’t be concerned with transcending anything. Always remember that surrendering to the core of being is the Way.
Go where the depth of silence takes you, to the very root of your existence. The more simple you keep the practice the more powerful it is. - Adyashanti
