Sigh.

I have a lot of conflicted feelings about this phrase.

On the one hand, you can always tell when the other person means well. You can always tell when they're saying this, hurriedly and with a sincere, sometimes wobbly, smile because they think you need that reassurance. And I appreciate these people, I do.

But on the other hand, it usually fills me with rage. Sometimes people say it like they're doing you a goddamn favour. Like they're so gracious for tolerating, even accepting, the 'abnormal' one. Like we should fall to their feet in gratefulness for their grand act.

And I'm so sick and tired of this part of me, this part I have no control over, this part I wouldn't change for anything, this part I've always celebrated, this part that's innate to me and should be inconsequential being something in need of acceptance.

Acceptance? Fuck that. What's there to reject?

That I'm a girl who likes girls and boys, but mostly girls? Why should that matter, why does that matter?

Every time I hear that phrase something inside me unsettles.

It's like you're telling me that you accept that I have hazel eyes. Or a small gap between my front teeth. Or that I need to wash my hands at least twice, before they feel clean.

Even when it's with the best intentions and the most heartwarming smile, something in my mouth goes rotten.

It's a reminder that for a lot of people, my queerness is something so different (,and something a little wrong) that they have to accept it first.

Hate crimes and discrimination would become acceptable under Donald Trump. As a black woman, my life and my future is at stake in this election. I’m pretty light skinned, but my mom? She’s not. Under his policies, Women can be discriminated against in the workplace if their passion, education, and training leans towards a male dominated field. Divorce rights for women will be restricted immensely which will force thousands of women to stay with their abusers because not all victims of domestic violence have enough evidence to get a divorce if a no fault divorce is off the table. Even if they do, they can be killed while they are trying to prove they were abused. Police brutality against blacks people will escalate. I could go on and on and on. But just as lives are at stake in Palestine, lives are at stake here. Please, vote blue. Even if you don’t love Kamala, please vote to save the lives of your mothers, sisters, and daughters. Vote to save the life of your friends and family who are not white. Vote to save the lives of your friends and family who are part of the LGBTQ community. All of us knows someone who falls into one of these categories. Or you might be that someone yourself.

Real quick, I know basically nothing about this, but Imane Khelif? Accusing her of being trans, even just rumours or jokes, could put her in PHYSICAL danger back home. So yes, she is absolutely 100% completely right to be filing a lawsuit. Not only would it have fucked with her mental state while competing but it was genuinely dangerous, to her life. Being queer is prohibited by law in Algeria. This has put her in danger, even if it’s all been proved to be bullshit, people will ignore that. This MATTERS.
