that whole bit where parker teases eliot when she startles him, eliot being all nervous about singing, but also incredibly defensive about it, hardison warping eliot’s voice really deep (and eliot laughs) then really high (and parker laughs) the way eliot says ‘riiight’ with a hint of crazy eyes—i love them all so much

I think we should talk more about the non-sexual ways Shiv is objectified, both by her family but also by Eavis. Maybe objectified isn’t quite the right word, but - I think it’s pretty clear that the main reason Gil wants her on the campaign is that she’s an effective piece of leverage to use against ATN. She has inside knowledge they can use, and (as we saw in Sad Sack Wasp Trap) the fact that her name is on the building means that she has access other political consultants don’t get. She also very quickly becomes The Angle when Gil is on ATN, to her own chagrin. That’s absolutely NOT to say she’s not good at her job - she’s clearly been instrumental in Joyce having the political success she has. But that makes this setup all the more frustrating once it becomes clear that Gil doesn’t really value her knowledge and skill so much as the leverage her being on staff gives her. He doesn’t really see her as a whole person, whose expertise is valuable to him; instead she is “The Roy,”and he can use that to his advantage.
(I think there’s no argument more compelling in regards to his lack of respect for her as a person than the fact that he goes to her wedding and then spends the entire time actively pressuring her to give him dirt on her family, even before he finds out Logan is going to be there. It’s not just what he wants, but the particular timing - this is her wedding, and he’s not willing to wait even 48 hours, until this family event is done. I know things move fast in news and politics, but there’s no way waiting until after the wedding or even after the honeymoon would have been that detrimental to his campaign).
And then, maybe more obviously, her family objectifies her as “The Woman”. Of course this clearly happens throughout Season 3; as the fallout from cruises keeps spiralling, it’s clear that her new position and the ways she’s been pushed to the forefront have little to do with Logan respecting her skills and abilities and everything to do with image. They need to have a Woman on their side. And this is all the more outrageous because, while I do think she has significant flaws that make her not a good fit for CEO, she DOES have skills and abilities specifically in the arena of “public image” that would be incredibly useful in this situation - but her family doesn’t value her as a whole person, so they overlook her expertise and focus on what her existence as The Woman would do for them. This is why they ignore her input in 3.06; it’s why ends up becoming the “grope geiger meter” in 2.06, paraded onstage at the panel to make Nan hopefully feel better about the Roy’s approach to the cruises scandal; it’s why in Logan’s eyes her main value to the strategy at Ternhaven is “the woman thing”. It’s even apparent in the conversation they have in 2.02, where Logan lays out a possible timeline for her becoming CEO immediately after commenting on his need to find, essentially, diversity token board members. She has skills and abilities and intelligence, but she is also The Woman, and that overtakes every other aspect of her person.

just re-watched leverage 3.06 the studio job and it’s really one of the Episodes of All Time huh
 hardison’s cowboy outfit
the way they specifically play into the mark’s misogyny by making him think he can easily win from sophie (or should i say virginia ellington)
that one part where hardison’s showing off his tech and makes eliot sound like darth vader and eliot smiles and then he makes eliot sound like a smurf and parker smiles (and eliot most definitely does not)
the scene where parker lifts All the tickets
how it shows that eliot kind of likes being a little famous, almost against his better instincts
the ‘universal baby’ conversation (as long as this universal baby applies to only eliot or parker)
eliot singing
that little bit where hardison sings while bothering eliot about being pitchy
parker going Off with her character and the duck dress
nate somehow getting the two goons guarding him to knock each other out... fuck it up male manipulator
hardison’s cowboy outfit
eliot’s love interest! she’s sweet and talented and stands up for herself and i’m so glad she’s going to get the fame she deserves
the little hints towards future mastermind parker (her finding the vault due to remembering that the recording room is supposed to be soundproof & even how she tries so hard to understand what/who the ‘fiddle’ is to get how to talk about and organize cons & how she manages to come up with a distraction to win eliot some time before nate)
speaking off that distraction! sophie’s proud smile!!!!!
not to mention how hardison also tried to win him some time by leveraging eliot’s fangirls.... they love him so much it makes them look stupid
the little set-up with how eliot “found out you can’t make that promise to more than one person” and him saying ‘till my dying day’ in the season five finale
when nate and sophie are just talking when the mark walks in and she slaps him and nate immediately figures out what’s going on, hatches a plan, and encourages sophie to storm off
sophie insisting on doing so on her terms only
honestly there’s probably more, but.... good episode. gooood episode
