imagine if when people mentioned the netherlands people listed every colony, genocide, mass murder and warcrime the netherlands committed. that's kinda how people talk about china but tbh we should start doing that with european countries instead

Text: Don’t act like everyone loved my father. He was assassinated. A 1967 poll reflected that he was one of the most hated men in America. Most hated. Many who quote him now and evoke him to deter justice today would likely hate, and may already hate, the authentic King.

My friend Mahmoud Salim @mahmoudfamily7 has a large family in Ghazzah, and a number of nieces and nephews. His family incudes 17 people, 10 of whom are children, 3 of them only infants.
Mahmoud's family is in urgent need of support. His grandma has several chronic diseases, and without access to the medicines and treatment she needs, her condition has worsened so much that she is now in the hospital. However, even the hospital doesn't have the treatments she needs.
Mahmoud's other relatives are suffering from health issues as well. His sister gave birth during the war, without access to the medical treatment she needed. Due to the lack of proper treatment, she almost died giving birth, and she still is suffering from serious infections. On top of this, all of the the children in Mahmoud's family are suffering from severe stomach aches due to food being scare and contaminated.
$5,872 / $80,000 CAD
Mahmoud's family urgently needs funds to get the medical care and food they need. Unfortunately, donations have been incredibly slow. Mahmoud and his family have been fundraising since May of last year, but so far, they have only raised 7% of their goal. Their campaign keeps stopping for days at a time.
Please, help Mahmoud's family. They deserve medical treatment, and to not live in pain. Share and donate, I implore you. Help them get the food and medicine they need!!!

Whenever an artist who makes dark content gets outed as a sexual predator people will be like 'aha it was obvious something was up because their work was so dark and nasty' and whenever an artist who makes wholesome content gets outed as a sexual predator people will be like 'aha it was obvious something was up because their work was so aggressively wholesome' and it's like you know I think maybe you can't tell whether or not someone is a predator based on their artistic output.

Journalist: It might be inconvenient to interrupt our profound discussion and change the subject slightly, but I would like to know whether extraneous, abstract thoughts ever enter your head while playing a game?
Tal: Yes. For example, I will never forget my game with GM Vasiukov on a USSR Championship. We reached a very complicated position where I was intending to sacrifice a knight. The sacrifice was not obvious; there was a large number of possible variations; but when I began to study hard and work through them, I found to my horror that nothing would come of it. Ideas piled up one after another. I would transport a subtle reply by my opponent, which worked in one case, to another situation where it would naturally prove to be quite useless. As a result my head became filled with a completely chaotic pile of all sorts of moves, and the infamous "tree of variations", from which the chess trainers recommend that you cut off the small branches, in this case spread with unbelievable rapidity.
And then suddenly, for some reason, I remembered the classic couplet by Korney Ivanović Chukovsky: "Oh, what a difficult job it was. To drag out of the marsh the hippopotamus".
I do not know from what associations the hippopotamus got into the chess board, but although the spectators were convinced that I was continuing to study the position, I, despite my humanitarian education, was trying at this time to work out: just how WOULD you drag a hippopotamus out of the marsh? I remember how jacks figured in my thoughts, as well as levers, helicopters, and even a rope ladder.
After a lengthy consideration I admitted defeat as an engineer, and thought spitefully to myself: "Well, just let it drown!" And suddenly the hippopotamus disappeared. Went right off the chessboard just as he had come on ... of his own accord! And straightaway the position did not appear to be so complicated. Now I somehow realized that it was not possible to calculate all the variations, and that the knight sacrifice was, by its very nature, purely intuitive. And since it promised an interesting game, I could not refrain from making it.
And the following day, it was with pleasure that I read in the paper how Mikhail Tal, after carefully thinking over the position for 40 minutes, made an accurately calculated piece sacrifice.

I do think with news of the ceasefire, everyone should read up on what the ceasefire actually means and what the different phases of the ceasefire are. here's a good source for what we know as of now:
Some of my initial takeaways are:
this ceasefire is temporary (as of right now, six weeks long). negotiations will continue but israel is not offering guarantees about continued non-violence. BDS remains important. be vigilant, keep pressure up
rafah crossing will open one week after the initial phase starts
israel will release 2000 prisoners
more aid will get to northern gaza, look out for ways you can help
if the second phase is initiated, israel will do a complete withdrawal from gaza. which means the initial phase will not include that. again i say: BE VIGILANT
if the third phase is reached, reconstruction will begin "under international supervision"
nothing is over, even if this is a relief. do not tape out, do not tune out.
pls still read the full article

I think being Ukranian I grew up seeing all those beautiful foxes from Soviet Cartoons and for that reason I just never really got the hype about Nick Wilde. He's like nothing to me. That, and his stance on abortion.
