LINK: Helpless
Summary: Wally had it good. He was the Track Star of his high school, people fawning over him, anyone he wanted.
The only problem was that now, in his last few years, he'd missed a couple things. Things being credits.
Now he's stuck in theater class. It's not all bad, how could it be when his first day included falling into the arms of the cutest boy he'd ever seen?
Theater Kid Dick x Track Star Wally AU (co written with @daisha-mochizuki)
“West, my office, now. ”
Wally looked up from his track shoes that he was tying to his feet only to find his coach very pissed off and storming off to his office with a bunch of folders in his hands. He cringed as the door to the office slammed shut, and he sighed as he stood. As he walked, he kept his head tilted downward to try and avert himself from his peers’ gazes, as they either gave him concerned looks or glared at him.
He stood in front of the desk, fingers tapping against his upper thigh anxiously.
The coach sat, folding his hands together and leaning his head on them before looking up.
“Why are you here, West?”
Wally rocked on his tiptoes. “I-uh, I was hoping you could tell me that, sir.”
The coach watched him with an unimpressed look, spreading out the papers from the folders out in front of him. Even from upside down, Wally could see they were charts and grades, as well as tables. He’d always tried to keep his grades afloat because otherwise he wouldn’t be allowed to play.
“Well, according to this, you’re missing your visual and performing arts credits by a huge amount. You have a bit before you graduate, but you’ll only make it out of this school if you start gathering them now.”
Wally sighed to himself.
This was going to be a long conversation, wasn’t it?
“Thank you, sir, I-”
“I’ve already enrolled you into a class myself,” the coach interrupted Wally, sliding a new schedule sheet across his desk over to Wally, who was standing there stiffly. “You’ll start your new class tomorrow. Rest up. We need you for this team.”
He was shooed out of the office with only a schedule in hand, staring at it without reading the words. The world felt numb as he trudged back into the locker room, the world blurring out his teammates. He re-dressed slowly, before tying his black combat boots and going back outside, unwilling to face his teammates.
Instead of sitting out on the bleachers to watch the practice, he went to sit under a tree overlooking the field.
Sighing, he unfolded the schedule to look for the highlighted class signifying his new one.
Theater - seventh period. Teacher - Dinah Lance.
Theater? Well, his parents had always told him he was a drama queen…
He walked into the place marked on his schedule, his boots creaking the old wood beneath his feet as he walked along the stage, trying to find someone, anyone, to signal that he was indeed in the right place.
“Hello…?” he called out tentatively, carefully trying to pull back the deep red velvet curtains that were drawn shut. He screeched and nearly toppled over as a hand was thrust through the curtains and grabbed him by the collar of his T-shirt to yank him back into the curtain-abyss.
Wally held up his hands, taekwondo style, and quickly looked around for whoever had dragged him through. He was met, however, with the searing stage lights being flipped on and shone directly in his face.
“State the reason for your presence.” A low voice growled.
“Um, this is my seventh period now?” He squeaked, shielding his eyes. “What the hell is this, a cult?”
“Close enough!” A different voice chirped, moving the lights from his eyes and allowing him to look around.
In front of him, a tall, blond woman smiled at him, extending a hand. “Forgive the theatrics, my students like to have a little fun with the transfers. I’m Dinah Lance, I'll be your teacher for the rest of the year.”
“Wally West. Nice to meet you,” Wally murmured weakly as he took his new teacher’s hand, shaking it gingerly.
“Wally, then? Artemis here will give you the tour.”
A blonde girl stepped forward, having come from the lights. “Hey. I’m Artemis, and damn, we got you so good!”
Wally grumbled to himself, glowering at the girl, apparently Artemis. He crossed his arms over his chest and turned his face away when the girl held out a hand for him. Artemis rolled her eyes and grabbed Wally, dragging him along despite his annoyed facade. Wally yelped, stumbling.
“You should get used to it, Baywatch, that’s how we work around here.”
“Baywatch?” Wally looked down at himself, catching a glimpse of his face in his reflection. His black beanie slipped up, allowing for his bangs to float into his face.
“I feel like you watch shitty daytime TV,” Artemis shrugged.
He scowled, following her as she pointed out several different areas and teams with specific names. He wandered after Artemis, his eyes flitting around as he tried to observe and intake all of the information he was quickly learning.
Wally had always been a trouble magnet, however, and managed to find it in the most random of ways.
Today, it took the form of a clump of loose wires strewn across the backstage. Artemis stepped over it easily and he moved to do the same, but followed her hand to where she was pointing at the set-builders. A boy was there, outlining a piece for an outdoor scene, and right as he turned, the other boy misstepped, shutting his eyes as his whole body was to inevitably hit the floor face first.
Instead, he landed with a soft whoomph against a warm body. He looked up, blinking up as the brightly shining light above them led him to the most beautiful blue eyes he’d ever seen.
It was a normal day, alright? Playing knight in shining armor for boys in too much black was not something on Dick’s agenda.
It was the props and stage day and everyone was helping out. He was humming along to one of the broadway soundtracks playing from a nearby speaker on low, and losing himself in the swoops and swerves of the lines, thick strokes of dark color being left behind in the wake of his brush.
He had missed the customary ‘scare the ever-living shit out of the new student’ ritual, but trusted that one of his friends had recorded it. He could hear Artemis’s voice droning on about the theater and turned to wave her over.
The student following her met his gaze, flashing Dick a glimpse of striking green, before the person tripped and ended up promptly falling flat on their face.
Well, they would have, if DIck hadn’t dropped his brush the moment he saw the kid’s foot catch in the wire and bolted forward.
He caught the kid with ease, waiting until they turned to look at him, dark eyeliner making the disoriented green eyes even wider.
On top of being the most dramatic person to grace the school’s theater class, Dick was also known for being a bit of a flirt, and upon seeing the situation, his brain to mouth filter broke completely.
“Well, new kid, looks like you’re already falling for me.”
Wally gaped at him, wondering how the extremely attractive boy who was cradling him in his arms just shot him the most appropriate and horrible pickup to ever grace his ears.
“W-what?” He stammered, unsure if he’d actually heard correctly.
Pretty boy laughed, embarrassed flush coming over his cheeks. “That was bad, sorry. I’m all about the drama, and a pick-up line or two is always fun, even if I never pick anyone up with them.”
Well, you've sure got me. Wally laughed nervously as the thought popped in his mind. “Thanks for catching me, man.”
“Oh!” He stepped back, placing Wally back on the ground and dusting him off. Wally let himself be manhandled, looking at the boy's full form.
“My pleasure. You got a name, new kid?” His mind blanked at the question, until he realized that the boy in blue was awaiting an answer.
“Oh…um, Wally. Wally West. Well, Wallance if you wanna be formal, but no one callsmethatbut myMomwhenshe'sangry-”
The boy cut him off with a laugh, the sound ringing in his ears like the song of a windchime.
“You’re a rambler, aren't you?”
“M’on the track team, my mouth and my feet move quicker than my brain sometimes.” He then got a mischievous smirk on his face. “What about you, Gorgeous? Got a name?”
The other boy fumbled in turn, flushing red. “Dick Grayson.”
Wally bit back a joke and grinned. “Nice to meet ya.”
Artemis clapped Wally on the shoulder as she decided she was finished watching, causing the redhead to jump and squeak in response, the boy snapping out of his stupor. “C’mon, pretty boy, you need to finish the tour. You can get handsy with good ol’ Dick here later.”
Wally choked on air, Dick doing much the same. “I wasn’t-we weren’t-”
“M’kay.”She smirked at Dick, Wally taking note of the dirty glance from the other boy. “C’mon, Baywatch, we’ve got another half of the theater to discuss.”
Wally looked back at Dick, a sort of hopeful look in his green eyes. “I’ll, uh, see you later?”
His voice raised an octave at the end, causing Dick to chuckle softly. He offered the redhead a small grin and a wave. “I’ll see you later.”
Wally’s grin grew wider, but he was very quickly dragged off by an annoyed Artemis, who was muttering under her breath as she led Wally back on the path they had been on before. He couldn’t help but look back, however, and saw the deep blue eyes still trained on him, following after him. The sight and thought caused a rush of warmth to flood through him, a tingling pleasant sensation setting off flutters at the pit of his stomach.
Maybe theater wouldn’t be so bad after all.

can i know your thoughts on the “typical” nightwing ships (him with wally, roy, slade, kory, babs, apollo/midnighter, etc etc)?
ofc! <333
As a multishipper I literally love almost all of these
Wally
The softest ship ever! Reading about them is so cute. All cuddles and snuggles, and full on comfort.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's the best friends to lovers trope
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Haven't read about them in a really long while but they used to be my comfort ship. Like these two are so soft each other that they just make me feel warm inside.
Roy
Roydick is my spicy birdflash ship. Their chemistry was more heated with them constantly getting into arguements but falling together again. Going back to the comics I realize that Roy hero-worships Dick and that's why they get into so many fights. Roy literally thinks Dick is too perfect
There's this post about them which provides comic panels about Roy constantly comparing himself to Dick
But mostly Roy wants all of Dick. He wants Dick's 100% attention of them and he hates-HATES-that Dick gives everything to Batman. It drives him so mad because he thinks Batman doesn't deserve any of Dick's attention.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Literally tells Batman- you ain't shit. I feel bad Dick had to deal with you. He doesn't deserve it for all the greatness he is.
Roy wants all of Dick and that's where I ship them including their complicated issues. What makes their relationship so great is their problems. Neither of them will compromise (Dick won't let go of Bruce and Roy won't let go of that issue), but after all the screaming and fighting they still fall back together.
Tumblr media
It's Dick that Roy goes to every time he has to deal with Cheshire.
Additional post:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
>:> hehe
Ollie has the biggest grin on his face XD
Slade
My OTP LETS GO
Bruh I am so into them.
My post on why they were made for each other
Tumblr media Tumblr media
YEA YEA YEAHHHHHH
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Slade literally used the steam of Dick's shower to write a message in his bathroom mirror.
okay.
I am obsessed with Slade's obsession with Dick.
I love how in one comic Dick is literally just listing everything that's wrong with his life and Deathstroke is just standing there actively listening with his arms crossed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's never gonna give up that apprentice agenda.
Kory
Kory!! I LOVE DICKKORY SO MUCH!!!
When I think of love, they are the epitome of it. I didn't know it was possible to feel love through paper until I saw them. One look at the chemistry is overwhelming.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Questions about what's right and what's not, I'll always have them. Questions about my loving you? No! I do. Very much."
Dickkory love is stronger than Dick's moral ethics and Dick's moral ethics?
Tumblr media
I've never seen Dick love anyone as much as he did Kory. There are issues that came up ofcourse. I'm pretty sure there was an anti-alien sentiment among the general public (real life?) that affected them and on top of that the Batman office wanting Dick back so they just ripped him away from the titans and rewrote a whole new love story for them while trashing Kory for it but when the public's reaction and Dick's "he's so perfect everyone wants him so let's play around with love interests for him" aside, they were the king and queen of love.
Tumblr media
What I love about their relationship is Dick loved Kori for who she was, not how she looked. And Kori loved Dick for who he was and not how he looked. On both sides, sometimes all people see of them are their beauty not their personality or strengths or being.
Barbara
Barbara. The reason I held off on writing this.
My feelings about Barbara are complicated.
She and Dick used to be my OTP. I loved them so much I actually hated Kori for a bit, thinking that Barbara was so much better-when I was solely in the fandom. But oh how the table have turned. Very recently the feather broke the camel's back so my feelings about the two of them have changed.
Long story short, they're better off friends. But my favorite moments come from mostly short haired Barbara comics.
Tumblr media
This Barbara was AWESOME. She was so chill and cool and funny. She would be smart but not in a demeaning way to others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also Batgirl 2000 comic Dickbabs was so sweet (below)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Apollo/Midnighter
love them!
I think Midnighter would totally seduce Dick into a frenemies with benefits arrangement. I mean he's halfway there.
Tumblr media
But aside from the usual flirting, Midnighter really, really, REALLY respects Dick's fight skills. I'm sure you've seen the panels of that already but since posts have a 30 image limit I'mma skip over that to the other reason: his greater-that-meta-human tenacity. Things and circumstances that take out metahumans, Dick surpasses through sheer will power and dedication.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I mostly ship Dick/Midnighter but Apollo would probably join in too at some point.
Constantine
Tumblr media
Never getting over how John-I don't do things I don't have to-Constantine saved someone because their body was hot and and their butt looked good. But later on in the comic he talks about how cool he was and what he describes Dick as is when asked about him is:
Tumblr media
Additional exchange:
Tumblr media
Tiger
His relationship with Tiger is AWESOME!!
It reminds me of his batman Dick relationship with Damian. Snarky and affectionate.
I ran out of image space :'0
But Dick basically gets Tiger-Spyral's number 1 and most loyal spy-to abandon the agency they work for, turn coat, and hunt them down to burn the oragnization into the ground instead. They're literally so funny. I loved Dick and Damian's cute banter and Tiger is just Damian aged up but meaner lol.

Kyle: can I go cunty?
Wally: no! This is the first date! I need to be cute, but rememberable.
Hartley: let me see your closet, when the date?
Wally: in seven hours.
Hartley: a little bit of a challenge but doable.
Bart: I'll make snacks, and I'll have Kon spy on her so we can match her levels!
Wally, about to cry again: oh my god thank you, thank you, thank you!
7 hours later and at Bludhaven's cafe, lesbian owned

Rania, calm and collective: no worries, *offers arm* let's go, have a busy night ahead of us.
Wally, blushing taking her arm: y-yeah.
Rania, hours before
Rania, holding her brothers, sister, Steph, Barbara, Donna, her dad, the butler, Roy, and Kori hostage in her room: if I don't look stunning for that pretty girl, I will die! I need suggestions and support people!
Jason: why would we want to help you?
Rania: because if I don't impress her, I'm destroying all your books.
Jason:
Jason: I'll get the makeup.
Roy: girl, I don't know how to dress myself the hell you think I can help you here?
Rania: then support me!

Rania: yes, please, thanks Dami, you're a good kid, and I love you so much, you know that?
Damian, prideful about the praise: of course I do.
Tim: kiss ass
Damian: hate not being the favorite, I see.
Kori: oh, oh, I want to pick out the shoes! Maybe favorite are in your closet right?
Rania: the Church's Burwood Oxford in black or the Church's Fairstead Oxford?

Here’s an edited wip of my Birdflash oneshot.
Fair warning, this will probably change in the final product as I try to figure out at what point in the timeline I want this fic to take place.
“You look like shit, Dickie.”
“Gee, thanks, Walls. You’re such a loving boyfriend,” Dick retorted. He tried for a smile, but Wally watched sadly as it twitched and fell before it could become what it once was–what Dick’s smile used to be.
Dick opened his door wider in invitation and Wally rushed in and examined the place. Gotham wasn’t ever known for its beauty, but even with that in mind, Dick’s apartment looked pretty rough. Empty containers of takeout and miscellaneous trash littered the floor and countertops. His couch was sprinkled with brown spots that he almost assumed were polka dots before he realized they were most definitely patches of dried blood. Clothes were strewn across every surface, their musk permeating his senses. Dick brushed past his side and made his way to the kitchen, opening his rickety fridge to expose the meager amount of food he had. Wally would bet his life savings that each of the five items had gone bad too, based on the state of the place.
Dick turned to toss Wally a water, “So…what, uh, brings you here?” Dick’s awkward tone hangs heavy between the two. Now that Wally could get a good look, his lover was in rough shape. Even worse than his apartment; which was a feat, his mind whispered. His hair laid limp and greasy along his neck and his bags seemed to have bags of their own. A couple of dark bruises peeked through the collar of his shirt, some leading down to his left arm if the strange way he seemed to carry it was anything to go by. Dick clutched his own water bottle, doing his best to look anywhere but at him.
“You haven’t been responding to my messages,” Wally started, “I texted the other Robin, uh Tim, I think? But he never got back to me either, so I got worried, you know? Figured I’d take matters into my own hands. I don’t have super speed for nothing.” He waved his hands around, doing his best to lighten the mood. “It’s been a long time since we’ve gotten to talk, let alone seen each other in person, but, you know, if this isn’t the best time, I can totally leave. I know this is kinda spur of the moment.” Wally wished he could slap himself the moment his lips stopped moving. Some of the younger heroes had started calling him a professional yapper and he wished it didn’t fit so damn well.
Wally watched as Dick took a breath and rubbed his temple as if he had a headache. He winced. Yeah, this probably wasn’t the best time to show up out of the blue.
“No, I…You don’t need to leave, “ Dick sighed. “I’m sorry I haven’t been responding, Walls. Everything’s just been… a lot, to put it simply. I’ve been so busy trying to balance my day job, Bludhaven, and…and being Batman. I just haven’t had much time to myself lately, if you can’t tell by the state of my apartment.” Dick laughed pitifully and winced when it shook his aching arm.
He couldn’t help moving forward into the kitchen and enveloping Dick in a hug, something he definitely should’ve done the moment he’d arrived. His partner sighed shakily and moved to wrap his arms around Wally’s middle. He felt Dick’s face pressed against his chest and hooked his chin to the top of his greasy head. Dick had always been one for physical comfort, a miracle considering who he’d grown up with and the environment he’d been forced into at the ripe age of nine. Wally would be lying if he didn’t say Dick’s need for physical affection didn’t bring him relief and make him feel needed. Sometimes, he felt powerless amidst his lover's strife–Batman’s rule against metas in Gotham limiting his ability to help. Providing Dick a simple hug; feeling the tense muscles in his shoulders loosen and his breath hit Wally’s neck as he sighed in relief, was Wally’s respite from his perpetual guilt.
Wally knew about Batman’s…death. He’d been there when Dick hosted Bruce’s funeral, letting Dick squeeze the life from his hand as he listened to the speech from Alfred. With Bruce gone, the natural order of Dick’s family had seemed to fall apart. Dick had taken the mantle of Batman, a title Wally knew he had never wanted–never felt right for him. He’d be lying if he said he fully understood the magnitude of such a change–that he knew how large the chasms carved by trauma had grown to separate Dick and his siblings. And yet despite that, he knew one thing for a fact. Dick, his lover and the man he’s known for well over a decade now was not the type of person to let others shoulder pain on their own. He took and took and took until he knew only he carried the weight of the sky on his shoulders, letting his muscles feel relief only when his family no longer felt pain. And he’d continue to carry that weight with a smile as long as he knew his family would smile back, unaware of the sky creeping in on Dick’s tense shoulders.
Wally squeezed his arms tighter around Dick’s back, supporting him as his breaths became ragged in their silent embrace. As Wally did so, a sick thought entered his mind, fueled by the anger and pain he felt for his partner; a small part of him–microscopic even–was glad Bruce wasn’t here. Not because he reveled in the effects his passing had on Dick, nor because he wanted Dick to be forced into the role of Batman, but because despite his struggles, Bruce had never been good for Dick. Yes, he played the parental figure Dick needed when he was younger and yes, he provided the necessities for Dick to survive, but he never provided what Wally knew Dick needed most.
“Do you wanna move to the couch, babe?” Wally whispered, cheek pressed against Dick’s head. He feels Dick nod silently and Wally zipped them to the couch in less than half a second. Wally sat and patted the spot next to him, watching as Dick laid his head on his lap, pressing his cheek to Wally’s stomach while letting his legs hang off the side of the couch.
Never one comfortable with silence, Wally broke it first. “If you don’t wanna talk, I won’t push. We can chill, watch the Office, eat popcorn–whatever you want. I just worry…you know? Not being able to be here to help and hearing on the news, Batman and Robin this and Joker and Two-Face that…I just wish I could do more for you.”
Wally looks down to meet Dick’s pained stare and internally winces as Dick opens and closes his mouth, struggling to respond.
“Me and the bats have it handled over here, okay?” Dick starts quietly, aimlessly running his hand over Wally’s knuckles. “You don’t need to worry about me, honey. I know you have more than enough to deal with back at Central and I don’t want to stress you out with problems I have handled.”
Wally lets his free hand run through Dick’s hair, quickly relishing in the way Dick warms to his touch. “I can’t lie and say I wouldn’t be stressed, you know me too well for that, but I’m here to support you, Dick. To be your listener when you’re stressed.” He paused for only a moment before speaking again, “I know you, Dick. I’ve known you for almost every era of your life as you have, mine. I knew you when you were my scrawny, baby leader-”
“Hey-” Dick tried to interject, but Wally kept going.
“I knew you when you wore that god awful blue and yellow disco Nightwing suit-”
“It really wasn’t that bad-”
“And I know what it looks like when you don’t have things handled. You don’t need to soften the blow for me Dickie and you don’t need to play the perfect soldier.” Wally paused. Let it be known even the Flash is out of breath from time to time. “You were always there for me during rough times, so please let me be there for you.”

hi, I was wondering if you had any fic recs for dc? i dont mind what ship/character they might include so you can just go wild. also, I love your blog and writing!! thanks in advance if you answer this <3
oh but of course, babe! i’ve got so many fic recs dear lord. hopefully the ones on here will be ones that i haven’t already recced before. and also ahhhh thank you so so much!!
a heart just cant contain all of this empty space by TheMermaidLord (if anyone knows their tumblr, please let me know!) ~27k. the young justice universe, except after season 1, the canon events of the batfamily get woven in. you get to see dick leaving robin, jason joining then dying, how tim first meets the team, how they react to learning jason’s alive again all through the eyes of the yj team (mainly artemis, wally, and dick, but there are others.) this fic is beautiful and heartbreaking and oh so satisfying.
Candle Light and Plastic Bats by @jackdaw-kraai 10k. you know all those hc and concept fics about the relationship batman has with the city of gotham? well this fic is an absolutely gorgeous homage to that. told from the pov of the people of lower gotham, it goes through their relationship with this demon that seemed to haunt their city, going from mistrust and fear to acceptance and kinship. just a really really beautiful fic.
Detective Work by @bekkoni ~8k. i don’t actually ship superbat for a multitude of reasons, but this fic was so goddamn hilarious and cute that i can’t not love it. set in the jlu universe, wally discovers that superman and batman are acting a little ~odd.~ then he does a little more snooping and dear god the consequences are hilarious. featuring identity porn by the bucket-load.
It’s Your Right to Hurt Me Baby (If You Wanted To) by @pluckyredhead  8k. granted, jayroy doesn’t make much sense outside of specific rhato runs, but inside those runs its an actually beautiful ship, and this fic is just one of many testaments to that. smut with feelings, and jason gets the love and affection he sorely needs.
Little Talks by @theo-ography 26k. who here doesn’t love dumb boys in love finally talking about their feelings?? because i love it more than words, but this author somehow did the impossible and managed to put it in words. in this series, dick and wally have some important conversations, do some cuddling, and finally get together. gosh, i love birdflash so. fucking. much.
The Maybe Man by @dustorange ~48k. this is me, screaming about dustorange’s works again because i am such a fangirl for her writing oh my god. after dick leaves bruce and while jason is robin, dick gets abducted and tortured by the court of owls, and then is sent to kill bruce. and bruce fights with every fiber of his being to get his son back. also, jason and bruce’s relationship is so good in this jesus christ. i love reading fics that show just how close jason and bruce were before jason was killed, and this fic had that and more.
Those Who Wait by @last01standing 11k. in a reverse robins fic done beautifully well, this entire fic is written from jon’s pov, and explores damian and jon’s relationship over the years. (basically, jon just falling more and more hopelessly in love with damian.) also, everyone ships it because jon is basically all of the kids’ “uncle jon” and it’s hilarious and i love it. one of my favourite damijon fics, and the p i n i n g is just AHHHH.
un haeng il chi by @danishsweethearts 17k. i can’t actually put into words how much i love this fic, so everyone needs to just go and read it right now so you feel what i feel when finishing this fic. a cass centric fic, this piece of art has the literal best characterizations and metaphors for those characterizations i’ve ever read in my entire life. cass’ relationship with each member of the batfam is unique and beautiful and dear god i could reread this fic a thousand times over without ever getting tired of it.
Watch This by snackbaskets (again, if anyone knows their tumblr, please let me know!) ~2k. this fic is just a oneshot of pure adorableness. the league meets little baby robin!dick for the first time. hal and barry are, at first, terrified for the kid’s life, and then terrified of the devious little mastermind in bright green hotpants. this is just humor and fluff and i love it.
Yesterday’s Voices by @lemonadegarden 49k. oh god i cannot scream my love for this fic enough. bruce, in a time with most of the batfam (including up to steph, damian, cass), gets de-aged to a time where jason was robin and dick was barely speaking to him. and it’s absolutely heartbreaking, because the rest of the batfam get to see how open, kind, and less jaded bruce used to be. if you want a good cry but a happy ending, this fic is wonderful.
if it were deemed socially acceptable, i would build a shrine to all of these wonderful authors in the middle of the street, but unfortunately i have neither the time nor the resources to do that, so i guess screaming about how talented and brilliant they are will have to do instead. hope you enjoy reading these babe!

discord request: BirdFlash + 18. “This is without a doubt the stupidest plan you’ve ever had. Of course I’m in.”
Wally is a smart person, despite popular belief. Book-smart and smart-smart, thank you very much.  Sure, he gets himself into some situations here and there, but those are calculated risks he chooses to take. Because he’s so smart.
There are exceptions, though. Sometimes, he does stupid shit on impulse because the ADHD demon took over and he didn’t use his smarts properly.
Sometimes, he does stupid shit because his best friend talked him into it and, since his best friend is the smartest person he knows, he didn’t bother considering the situation on his own.
This time, however...
“Let me get this straight,” Wally pinches the bridge of his nose. “You want me to go with you... as your date... to some fancy gala... to spite Batman?”
Dick grins at him, the sparkle in his eyes so beautiful that Wally has to look away.
“Yeah, that’s basically it.”
Despite all of his smarts, Wally isn’t the best student. He has  trouble following instructions sometimes  - again... ADHD’s fault, not his - and he will sometimes make uncle Barry worry. One of the first and more important lessons uncle Barry did manage to drill into his mind is that you do not - DO NOT - annoy Batman. Ever.
“Why? Is he, like, homophobic or...?”
“Nah, Bruce knows I’m bi, he’s super supportive.”
Did he just say he’s bi?
“Plus he isn’t straight either, he had the most embarrassing crush on your uncle when we were kids.”
You can trust Dick Grayson to drop one bomb after the other just like that and kill you on the spot. Judging by his shit eating grin, the little shit knows he just murdered Wally and he’s proud of it. He doesn’t even know how to react. He’s pretty sure that he would never recover if it wasn’t for his fast healing.
“... I have so many questions.”
“We’ll have time for questions later. As for why, I trust you to annoy Bruce as my date better than anyone else.”
“Okay, WOW. You’re my best friend, right? You’re supposed to love me, right?”
Dick doesn’t respond, but his smile softens and he waits with the confidence of a man that know he’s won. There is nothing Wally can do about it. He even gave Wally munition - if Batman does try to murder him, he can threaten come back as speedforce ghost and tell uncle Barry about his apparent former crush.
“This is without a doubt the stupidest plan you’ve ever had,” Wally sighs. “Of course I’m in. Let’s pretend to date to make your dad mad. It’ll be super fun.”
“I knew I could count on you!” Dick cheers and tackle hugs him and it’s nice.
Dick’s hugs are always so nice. Wally wishes he’d never let go. Which is stupid, this is all so stupid, being in love with your best friend and pining when he’s right there is so stupid.
And he just agreed to be his fake date. Isn’t this lovely? Just two bros beind dudes.
Dick pulls away. “I’ll text you later with the details and I’ll have Alfred send you a new tux just for the occasion.”
Wally make a disgusted noise. He hates those penguin suits.
“And Wally?” Dick stands on his tiptoes and plants a kiss to his cheek. “I didn’t say anything about the date being fake.”
Wally freezes. He barely registers Dick’s impish laughter as he escapes through Wally’s window as if he just didn’t drop the third bomb of the night, the biggest, deadliest bomb of them all: Wally has a date with his best friend/crush.
“RICHARD, YOU ABSOLUTE DICK!”

The Annual Shipping Polls
Fandom: Batman/DC Pairings: Dick/Tim, Bruce/Diana, Roy/Kory/Jason, Stephaine/Cassandra, mentions of fandom Kon/Tim, fandom SuperBats Summary: Dick is brooding, Jason is amused, Tim is confused, Damian is annoyed, Stephanie and Babs want to knock some heads, and Cass and Diana are all-knowing. Author notes: This is my first time writing Dick/Tim and I owe a huge thank you to @iphoenixrising who’s amazing Tim stories got me longing to write my own Tim stories.
Like many things Jason will claim that it was all Roy’s fault he discovered it first and after laughing for several moments sought out Jason.
It was the annual shippers poll that happened once a year where fans of superheroes would vote for their favorite ship as they went head to head to see who would win. There was favorite slash, female slash, het, poly and superheroes, and their villains.
When it was first discovered an amused Lois sent the links to Clark.
Diana had been amused.
Bruce grunted and glared.
Clark feared just a little for his life.
SuperBats had won favorite slash pairing while WonderBat had won for favorite het pairing and The Trinity had won for favorite poly pairing.
It stayed like that for many years until other heroes started appearing Wally and Dick to their amusement learned that they were a much loved BirdFlash and one of the few that could give SuperBats a run for their money but sadly always came a little short of beating them. Nightwing/Starfire was a much-loved pairing and one year managed to defeat WonderBat only for the WonderBat fans to come back next year and claim their crown.
To Barry Allen's shock and Leonard Snart amusement, ColdFlash was undefeatable as the fans' favorite hero/villain pairing. No one was really surprised when those two actually did end up together.
Roy had been checking to see where the Outlaws ranked and was pleased to see that they had won favorite poly pairing. "Finally, good to see that people have some good taste."
Continuing on Roy fought back the laughter when he saw that Nightwing/Red Hood had made it pretty far. "Oh, this is priceless." Roy printed out he wondered how long it would last before Jason used it for target practice.
Moving up the list Roy was waiting to see that once again SuperBats was named as the top slash pairing only to stop and stare. "No way."
But it was there SuperBats was in second place.
"JASON! SOMEONE BEAT SUPERBATS!" Roy shouted with glee.
Jason was at Roy's side in a second all but shoving him out of the way he was a little bummed to see that Bruce and the boy scout were no longer number one, he loved using it to annoy Bruce. Jason loved the little twitch Bruce developed when Jason brought it up. "Who beat them?" Jason growled out. "It better not be me and Dickie!" Jason could do so much better than Dick. 'So could replacement but for some reason, he is hooked on him.'
Roy's body hummed with amusement, "A new version of SuperBats."
For several moments Jason could only stare at the computer screen as he processed what he had just read. “Oh, this is just too good.” Forget teasing Bruce this was glorious.
+*****+
Diana Prince -Wayne wasn't at all surprised when Jason breezed into the cave a mischievous look on his face. She knew that she shouldn't play favorites and she did her best not to but Jason out of all of Bruce's partners had a special place in her heart. "I take it that you have seen the outcome of the latest results of the annual polls?" She knew that Jason loved to tease Bruce about the fact that people loved the Batman with Superman he had even gone as far one year to cover the cave in fanfics and fanart of the couple and even got Babs to have the bat computer play Superman's theme for every little thing.
A small smile appeared on Jason's face she was one the few people that he genuinely liked to see. Personally, Jason thought Diana could do better she is fucking Wonder Woman after all! But for some reason that Jason couldn't understand she had fallen in love with Bruce. 'Bruce is one lucky son of a bitch.' "I did indeed but I am going to wait until everyone is here to tell the wonderful news."
"Just go easy on Dick, he is still in denial." Diana already knew she was curious about the outcome of these polls and she knew what had Jason so happy.
Jason knew that Diana had a point, he wasn't blind he saw the glances Dick tossed Tim’s way when he thought no one was looking, the longing and desire to fix things. Jason knew that Dick’s feelings for Tim were far from brotherly but he wouldn't act on them. Dick still carried guilt when he made Tim think that he wasn't wanted anymore when he took Robin from him and gave it to Damian, Tim was just starting to come back to realize that they did want him and Dick wouldn't risk Tim running away again.
"Alright, I won't tease Dickie too much," Jason promised.
"That is all I ask of you." Diana smiled serenely at him before pulling out a copy of a much loved Jane Austen novel, "Something to keep you entertained until the others get here."
Taking the novel Jason pressed a kiss on Diana's cheek, "And this is why you are my favorite."
+*****+
Dick Grayson stepped one foot in the cave and saw that Jason was already there, the grin on his face promising a good time for Jason and humiliation for anyone but him. Dick knew what day it was today but he never cared much about it, unlike Jason who loved it, mostly because he loved to tease those who won.
Jason grinned at the look of dread on Dick and Tim's face, the grin that grew as Bruce looked even more gloomy than normal.
Stephanie's hand in hand with Cassandra entered the cave with a bounce and a wide smile on her face, "Guess who won favorite female couple?" She beamed at Cass who returned it with a small smile.
Tim smiled at them, he was happy his favorite sister and Stephanie had found happiness with each other. "Like there was any doubt."
Stephanie preened, "It just shows that people have good taste."
Tim did not like the look on her face, it matched the one Jason was wearing.
“It would seem that after many years ranking at the top SuperBats has been at last defeated!” Jason announced.
Bruce grunted he didn't understand why people shipped him and Clark together but he was curious as to who finally dethroned them. ‘Maybe this will finally stop Hal and Barry from sending me SuperBats fanfiction and artworks.’
An unholy gleam appeared in Jason's eyes, the look that he aimed at Dick and then Tim before pulling up the article on his phone, “Yes folks, it has finally happened the long regaining SuperBats has been defeated by another that has been gaining on them for years. Congratulations Superboy and Red Robin.”
“WHAT?!”
Dick’s enraged bellow sent bats flying as Tim could only stare at Jason.
"Kon and me?" Tim could understand why people shipped them, best friends to lovers was a very popular trope but he didn't think that he and Kon had that big of a following. He felt kinda flattered even if he never thought of Kon like that. No his heart belonged to only one person.
An annoyed look appeared on Damian's face, he didn't understand why Todd and Brown made such a big deal about these foolish polls. "Ridiculous, if anyone should have defeated father it should have been Grayson and Drake they have been pining over one another for years it is sickening."
Dick and Tim both paled, both had been so sure that they hid their feelings for each other so well that no one else in the family knew, let alone their crush.
"Silly." Cassandra moved away from Stephanie coming to stand between Dick and Tim she took their hands in hers.  "Love each other. Stop denying it."
“I couldn't have said it better. Everyone is tired of the two of you pining for one another." Babs voice echoed around the cave, no one was surprised that she hacked the comm system.
Rising gracefully to her feet Diana took Bruce's hand in hers. "I think that we should give them a few moments alone."
Never one to deny his princess Bruce led Diana from the cave. 'At least now I don't have to put up with Jason decorating my cave with all that artwork of Clark and I.'
Dick and Tim avoided looking at one another as the cave emptied as their family left them alone.
"Do I need to worry about you going after Kon with a chunk of kryptonite?" Tim found himself asking the last thing he wanted was for Kon to be in danger.
'Now that is an idea.' Dick was tempted, oh was he ever tempted to take some and hunt down Kon and ask him what his intentions were towards Tim. 'No Tim would be mad at me.' Dick forgot the idea right away.
Dick looked at Tim and was once again blown away at how beautiful Tim was. "All I want for you is to be happy and if that is with Kon then so be it."
"Kon and I are friends, best friends but just friends." Tim wanted to say, 'How can I be in love with Kon when I am in love with you?'
"You're in love with me?"
Tim's eyes widened in horror as he realized he had just said that out loud. Slapping his hands over his mouth Tim took a step back.
Only Dick followed his moves smooth and seductive until he had Tim pinned between him and a workbench. "Answer me baby bird. Are you in love with me?"
Tim was tempted he could nerve strike Dick and high tailed it out of the cave but he knows that Dick will just follow him. "I have been for so long. Before I even knew what love was."
Reaching out a hand Dick cupped Tim's face and nudged his head up to look him in the eyes, "I love you too, pretty bird. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to push you away not when you have just returned to us." Dick explained.
Tim was sure that his heart was pounding so loudly that Dick could hear it. "Kiss me?" Tim pleaded softly.
Dick's face lit up in a smile, "Nothing would make me happier, pretty bird." Dick had dreamed of his moment for so long and nothing he had imagined was like the real thing. Tim fit perfectly against him like Tim was made just for him.
+*****+
Jason grinned as he heard Bruce mutter about "slideshows" and "protection" this turned out even better than he thought and if Dickie got one his nervous he had tons of Baby Bird and Superboy artwork saved away for revenge.

Can I get a birdflash in which Dick is already pregnant and Wally takes care of dick.
They were lounging on the couch together on a lazy afternoon.
The TV played in the background, but neither of them were really paying attention to it.
Wally’s head was placed gently under Dick’s round belly, loving the feel of the taut skin, pulled tight around their baby. Dick played with Wally’s hair, running his fingers through the soft strands.
He gave a happy little hum.
“What’s that?” Wally asked, glancing up. “Did you need something, Dickie?”
Dick smiled. “No. I was just counting my blessings.”
Wally chuckled softly and pressed a light kiss to the top of Dick’s baby bump. “I was too. And I have two of them right here, and I couldn’t want anything more.”
Dick blushed lightly. “You sap,” he said.
“You are too,” Wally said, poking Dick’s leg and grinning.
They lapsed into a comfortable silence and a few minutes later, Dick gave a soft whine.
Wally popped his head over Dick’s large belly. “You okay? Are you feeling horny again? I’m almost certain that was a horny whine.”
Dick gave a grimace. “Yes? I don’t like how horny this pregnancy’s making me. Why couldn’t I just have cravings like everyone else?”
Wally laughed softly. “I actually like this better. Want me to take care of it for you? You won’t even have to move.”
“I’m still kind of sore from yesterday,” Dick admitted.
“So how about just some fingers?” Wally offered gently. “Or I could just eat you out...?”
“Fingers are good for now,” Dick said with a smile. “I’ll take you up on the other offer later.”
“Lemme go grab the lube, babe,” Wally said. “And I’ll get you a blanket too.”
He came back with a thick fleece blanket, which he settled over Dick and his belly. Then, he helped ease down Dick’s pants, pressing light kisses all over Dick’s belly the whole time.
Since the second trimester started, Dick had started going commando under his pants since he would get horny very suddenly and very often. Wally had no complaints of course. He had debated carrying lube around just for ease of access.
Wally pour some lube into his palm and slicked up two fingers of his other hand, warming up the lube first. When his fingers were well-lubed, he pressed a finger again Dick’s hole, only applying gentle pressure.
“Ready, Dickie?” Wally murmured.
Dick gave a soft moan and nodded, spreading his legs a bit further. Slowly, Wally slid his finger inside. He took his other hand and smeared the leftover lube onto Dick’s hard cock, pumping at the same speed in which his finger was moving.
“You’re so, so good, Dickie. Carrying our baby and being so amazing all the time,” Wally murmured, inserting a second finger. “So beautiful.”
He crooked his fingers up, rubbing gently against Dick’s prostate while increasing the pressure of his grip on Dick’s leaking cock.
“I wanna make you feel so good,” Wally whispered. “Treasure you and treat you right.”
“Wally...” Dick panted. “That- That feels really good!”
Wally continued his gentle movements, even as his wrist complained about the position. He continued rubbing small circles right into Dick’s prostate and stroking Dick faster and faster with his other hand.
“Yeah, Dickie? Love making you feel good. You deserve to feel good all the time, baby,” Wally said, continuing his murmuring of sweet nothings.
“Ah- Wally, ‘m close-” Dick said breathlessly.
“Let go for me, babe,” Wally encouraged. He kept rubbing and stroking, ignoring the protests of his wrists. Making Dick feel good and feel comfortable was priority.
Dick came with a weak whine, spilling into Wally’s hand. Wally slowed down, easing Dick down from his orgasm. He pressed another kiss to Dick’s belly before removing his hands.
“I’ll go get a warm towel,” he told Dick.
Wally returned a few moments later to find Dick half asleep now that his horniness was satiated. Wally smiled at the scene, cleaning Dick very gently to avoid waking him up.
Then, Wally readjusted the blanket to cover Dick’s legs as well. He pressed one last kiss to Dick’s belly, then to his lips.
“Sleep well, baby,” he whispered.

Never written BirdFlash before (I do think they’re cute), and I honestly know very little about Wally as a character, so I hope I did alright. Domestic fluff is not a forte of mine either, oops. Thanks for prompting me anyway!
Last one for tonight, but still continuing tomorrow! Keep the prompts coming!

Dick: yes Ma’ Kent, I’ll make sure he gets enough sleep
Wally, whispering: Is she seriously worried about that?
Birdflash Week 2019 - Accidental Baby Acquisition
Catch me with my random facts about this idea
Some of the strongest Justice Leaguers are now babies. This is why Wally hates magic.
He was on monitor duty with Dick, right after the babies were magically tossed all contact (except the bat-cellphone) was lost.
Billy’s suit turned into a onesie thanks to his own magic but the rest, oh boi... he keeps trying to say shazam and Wally is scared because !!! Billy !!! won’t !!! let !!! go !!! of !!! him !!! (that's not how Wallace west expects to go)
Hal keeps making construct toys, he’s the least troublesome.
Diana floats while she sleeps, she also drools all over Dick.
Arthur fake-swims on Wally’s arm and is constantly trying to fall to his death, he is a stupid beautiful strong and agile baby.
Once Wally managed to get Shayera in the onesie, she spread her wings until she made holes on the back of the cloth. She just flies around.
Dick had the awful idea to call Martha Kent for advice since he couldn’t reach Alfred. Now he’s stuck with a worried mother making sure he knows how to prepare formula milk. Clark heard her voice and now floats around Dick calling him ma.
Barry wont stop running. He’s unstoppable. He already fell twice but he just. gets up. and keeps running.
they do their best to keep Dinah asleep, they’re afraid she cries like grown Dinah.
Bruce keeps finding hidden batarangs all over the watchtower and insists on biting them.
they found the onesies in bruce’s room. dick knows its because the bastard wants grandchildren so he buys all the cute onesies he sees online featuring: baby batman, a teddy bear, a sonic one and a purple unicorn that fit no one.
The boys want to die
Anyways, [shows up three days late because it’s summer and i have no concept of time] Happy Birdflash

Have you ever heard “for you” by tonight alive? it’s pretty sappy, but it has such strong birdflash vibes “for you I would fly without wings/and for you I would run like the sun chases the moon”
I must admit, this is the first piece I’ve written that feels fluid for a long time. Thank you for sending me a song, it is a lovely one (definitely screams Birdflash, haha!). For everyone else who’s sent a request, I swear I am still slowly working on them, and I promise you’ll get a little something as well. :)
Birdflash drabble #4 - A little more than best friends
No warnings aside from the risk of cavities… Ah, and no beta’d and written by a messy non-English writer hahaha.
It started as a simple conversation, a simple idea Donna threw in the air and that the team picked on. With the summer holiday coming to an end and the first day of school approaching fast, the five friends decided to have one last evening of fun before getting dragged back to the dull yet stressful routine that came with every Septembers. Sitting at the terrace of their favourite cafe, each shared their desires. Garth suggested going to the lake now that most tourists were gone, Roy was fine with anything as long as he could bring his itty bitty daughter. Wally wasn’t very picky, unlike when they organized outings that were related to restaurants. Dick mentioned wanting to make a bond fire, and Donna only wanted to go someplace where she could expand her portfolio by taking pictures of the scenery.
“Alright so let me just summarize what we have so far.” She had kept track of everyone’s wishes by scribbling down on a napkin. “We are looking to go somewhere with a place to swim, somewhere that’s safe for little Lian and where it is okay to make a fire.” Her friends nodded.
“Wally doesn’t care as long as we bring enough food for his bottomless stomach.” Dick, the youngest of the team, snickered before he and his best friend began a playful “poke war.”
Donna gently tapped her bottom lip with the end of her pen as she thought of a place that could satisfy everyone.  "Oh.“ Her eyes light up. “How about we go to the Moonstone river? I went there once with my photography class. Granted, it is a bit of a treck to get there, but it fits pretty much everyone’s request. And we could camp for the night.” Donna watched as her friends thought about it and seemed to agree on her proposal. With a smile, she announced: “Then it’s decided! We will meet early on Thursday and spend the night there.” Each rose their drink and cheered.
It was already sunny when the group met at the entrance of the provincial park. Dick was the first on sight when Donna and Garth arrived. Roy followed shortly; his daughter held his hand and hopped as she played imaginary hopscotch. As always, Wally was the last one to get there and was shy of being half an hour late. Funnily enough, Lian was the one to scold him for taking so long.
The walk up to the river took the group two hours to complete, which was relatively fast seeing how often they had to stop either because Donna argued she wouldn’t forgive them if they didn’t let her take that one perfect shot of birds and wildflowers, or to entertain the toddler who occasionally got tired of walking. With Lian riding his back, Wally became her private “horsey” and was ordered to run up the slope as fast as he could.
“You’re slow, West.” Of course, Dick had to tease him. And of course, Wally took it as a challenge. The two began to walk with long strides, teasing the other when one gained some distance. The rest of the group watched them hurry, shaking their heads as they were used to their silly shenanigans.  Once they reached the top, Wally and Dick were out of breath with Wally sitting down and Dick leaning on his knees.
As expected, the provincial park’s river was beautiful. The water trickled down the rocks and reflected the sun; it was surprisingly not too cold to the touch. A few people had already claimed some spots around the water, but it was relatively calm, and the group didn’t have trouble finding their perfect place to camp. Putting their backpacks down, Garth and Wally hurriedly undressed and jumped into the water with Wally immediately regretting it. “It’s cold!”Meanwhile, Roy helped his daughter take out her clothes and gently applied sunscreen to her sensitive skin. The young father talked with his child, a relaxed and fond look softening his face. Dick watched them from afar, smiling and remembering how his father used to speak to him with a similar expression before passing away. At the same time, Donna was already taking pictures of everyone. She always said that the best photos were taken au naturel. A big, wet golden retriever whose smile could melt the iciest hearts ran up to her to greet her while ignoring his owner’s calls.
“A puppy!” Not even after a blink, Wally was next to her on the floor and hugging, kissing the wet dog. “Who’s a good boy? What’s your name? Where do you come from? Are you having fun?” He talked with a high pitch voice which caused the dog to wag its tail even harder. “Donna! Donna! You better immortalize this beautiful creature with your super photographing skills!” Ah yes, Wally sure loved dogs. But his canine friend noticed someone else and without a goodbye, ran past him to jump on another unexpected victim. Dick was halfway into the water, showing off his ricochet skills to Lian,  when the golden retriever jumped next to him, making a splash big enough to soak him entirely. There was a couple of laughs as the teenager’s cheeks turned a little pink.
When the evening came, the sun began its journey to the west, leaving the sky like a palette of pink and blue. Most of the people had left earlier, and eventually, the team had to say goodbye to Mr. Snufflekins the golden retriever who had “helped” them collect enough wood to start their fire. Once it was big enough, the five friends began to prepare their meal: hot dogs cooked over the fire and roasted marshmallows. Because most of them had a competitive nature, they decided to make the marshmallow prepping a contest; the person who made a marshmallow with a delicate crust on the outside, but still soft in the inside would be crowned king or queen of the fire. And because the truth always comes out of a children’s mouth, Lian was designed as the judge for the contest. Carefully, she took a bite of each marshmallow, looking as if she was degusting them with the taste bud of a real chef. Finally, she proclaimed her overly burnt entry as the winner and no one dared challenge her choice. Laughter and horrible singing attempts filled the silence of the night. Garth was the first one to fall asleep, hugging an empty backpack and a kid playing with his hair. Wally dared Roy to draw on his face but was disappointed when he learned of the lack of marker.
When dawn came, Dick was still awake. Sitting with his arms loosely hugging his knees, he watched as the moon and the stars shared the sky with the rising sun. The trickle of the river along with the melody of the songbirds made everything so peaceful. Most of his friends were still asleep, having consumed too much food, energy and, yes, a couple of beers. Someone sat next to him, yawning loudly and stretching. “What are you doing up so early? I thought you were a night owl?” Wally asked as he followed the younger man’s gaze.
“And miss this?” Dick grinned, listening as Wally hummed next to him. They remained like this for a while, comfortable with the silence that settled between them.
“You know, I think I might have a little too much to drink yesterday.”
Wally turned his head toward his best friend. There was a slight tint of pink on his face. “Yeah?” Dick’s smile was soft, and Wally felt as if his blue eyes had captured the stars and the moon for they were shining with something magical. Wally felt drawn to him; his hand moved to gently cup his best friend’s cheek without him realizing. Dick’s skin felt cool to the touch, and Wally could feel him accept the touch as he pressed against his palm. Something was happening, he told himself. There was a spark in his eyes, a zing in his heart. It was just like any cliche movies described it, and Wally wondered if Dick was feeling the same thing.
As if Nature was encouraging him, Wally leaned a little closer as the breeze gently pushed his back. There was a moment of hesitation as if neither boys knew what they were doing. “Dude, can I…” Wally started. For once he felt at a loss of words. Dick’s hand rested over his as he nodded. Shortly after, their lips were sealed, and their arms moved so they could embrace each other tenderly. The moment only lasted for seconds, but to them, it felt like a lifetime.
“I guess that makes us something a little more than best friends,” Dick said, his voice a little unsure. Wally gently lowered him to the ground, holding him as if he was a porcelain doll who could break with any sudden movement.
“Who said we can’t be best friends and something a little more?”

(365)
Here it is. My last drabble after an entire year of writing. If you want some mood music, check this out. And I thought I’d do something a little fun and unique for this last one.
Molim sighed and tapped their finger against their chin. They paced around their living room, staring at where their computer was resting on their desk, waiting for them to put their fingers to the keys and create something new. The cursor was blinking at them, mocking them for the challenge they’d so foolishly started a year ago.
A post and ficlet every day had seemed like so little at first. They’d thought it to be a challenge they wouldn’t have any trouble completing. Sure, the idea was grand and momentous, but they always went overboard when it came to writing fic, so this wasn’t out of the ordinary. It would just be another series of writing.
But after being in the midst of it all? After months spent writing new drabbles and coming up with new ideas to keep things fresh and exciting? After panicked nights and weekends if a drabble accidentally got deleted right before posting, or they thought they were losing all sense of creative capacity, they were starting to understand just what they’d gotten themself into.
They ran a hand through their hair, fingers scratching through their shaved undercut. The top strands were getting too long. They’d need to get it cut soon. They shook their head, there would be time for that later, there was something else that needed to be done first.
They smiled, the vague strand of an idea coming to them. A spark that could lead to something great if it was nurtured and crafted just right.
They hurried over to their desk and sat down, pulling their legs up to sit cross-legged on the seat and get comfortable as they prepared to settle in and write.
This next post needed to be amazing and exciting. It needed to pull their readers into yet another new world and tale Molim was weaving at the tips of their fingers. They’d covered so many different ships and tropes over the year. Most of their posts had been jaytim, but sheith was also big on their list. They’d even broached into Birdflash for the first time and had a few drabbles about Winterhawk. And of course, they had some fun posting original works as well to test the waters for the hell of it.
They smiled. Their tropes had been all over the place. They’d finished the fix-it fic The Nearly Dead Adventures of Tim Drake, posting that one and several other jaytim and sheith on AO3 because of popular demand. And it helped to keep the chapters in one place for any readers who wanted to return to it later or keep up with updates.
They’d tackled the barista au, the werewolf au, and even went along with a mermaid au during the entirety of May which later came back to life from a different angle involving Birdflash. They dabbled in amnesia fic and a frat boy and punk boy college au. And of course the pastel and punk au that every fandom needed. There’d been some angst, but most of it was happy, keeping things light as the year continued and lives fluctuated. As Molim’s life fluctuated and changed.
Molim had told many stories so far, but there were so many more they wanted to write and share and give to the people around them and their readers. Stories brought people together and writing was something they never tired of.
Molim tapped their index fingers on the keys of their laptop. The motion wasn’t hard enough to press the key and make a letter appear, but it gave them a moment to think as the words and ideas slowly became concrete in their mind, begging to be put on the page and crafted into something beautiful.
Their smile widened as they entered the number at the top of the post. So many days and posts and now number three-six-five. This post was a year in the making. Everything was culminating at this point in their life. They scratched their head, sweeping the hair out of their eyes before moving the cursor down to the body of the post to start to write.
The words came slowly at first, forming in their brain before they moved down to their fingertips and were poured onto the page. After the first couple of sentences, they hit the ‘Enter’ key and moved to the second paragraph.
Things came faster, the words slowly beginning to spin around Molim as they continued to write. Their ideas became stronger, life given to the words and the characters as they came to life on the page, ready to be released into the world to offer new meaning and experience.
The characters’ hearts beat in time with Molim’s, their emotions shared between them as they both experienced fear, loss, happiness, excitement, and...love. They shared friendships and romance and family and the best and worst parts of life as they lived a thousand different lives and experienced it all at once.
Light poured from Molim’s fingers as they continued to write. The light of life that made the characters and the stories larger and bigger than the pixelated letters and words that were confined to one small tumblr post.
The story grew, a world of its own that housed people who were very much as real as the author and readers themselves as they shared and lived those lives and experienced things that might not have happened to them otherwise.
Molim sat back as the last sentence was completed. Despite the outpouring of words and care and emotion, they didn’t feel any less empty. Instead, they felt bolstered, stronger because of what they’d crafted and had the chance to share with the rest of the world.
Each post had touched lives that Molim wouldn’t have met otherwise. Their project had become bigger than their own being and no matter how they finished it, they knew that there was nothing that could begin to encompass or pay back the joy, fear, tears, and love that had been experienced during the past year.
There was nothing Molim could write that could even begin to communicate how much their reader’s responses meant to them and how much bigger this felt than their small five foot three inch person.
They became aware of their beating heart in their chest as they reached the bottom of the post, reading the words once more. They placed a hand over their heart and felt overwhelming pride and joy at what they’d done.
They reached out, sliding their finger on the smooth surface of their laptop’s track pad--careful not to accidentally delete the whole post like that one mistake they’d make a few months into the project--and hovered the cursor over the blue button in the bottom corner.
Molim let out a breath and hit ‘Post,’ letting the story be taken from them yet again and sent out into the wide expanse beyond their home. They sat back in their chair, eyes falling shut as everything they’d worked for finally came to a close.
This wasn’t the end, though. Just the end of one chapter. What would come next was uncertain. Gone was the security of knowing that whatever happened, this project would be there, but uncertainty could still be exciting and joyful.
This chapter had already encompassed the beginning and end of a relationship, a graduation, many professional jobs, a move, a funeral, the birth of new friendships and the end of old ones, and many coming outs.
The next chapter would no doubt hold just as many, if not more, surprises.
And it was time for Molim to turn the page.
If you enjoy my work, please reblog or consider buying me a ko-fi!

Red String - Birdflash Fic
Rating: General Audiences
Fandoms: Titans (Comics), DCU, DCU (Comics)
Relationship: Dick Grayson/Wally West
Characters: Dick Grayson, Wally West
Additional Tags: Fluff, Romance, Love Confessions, POV First Person, POV Dick Grayson, POV Second Person, Soulmates
Summary: You ask me if I believe in soulmates. I tell you the truth.
Also on AO3
I’ve never been one to believe in the notorious red threads of fate. It’s cliché, for one, and the sentiment of believing that there’s this one person, sitting on their hands and waiting for you to show up is unrealistic. I fall easily. It can be seen as a weakness, but I believe it’s a strength.
You’re my best friend. I should have seen it, really, but we both know I’m clueless where it really counts. You’re by my side through thick and thin, horrendous and magnificent, insignificant and crucial. You’re more reliable than any crutch fashioned from metal and various plastics.
The string has always been there. I just didn’t wish to see it.
I look at you more often than I wish to admit. What can I say? The beauty you have both on the outside and contained within your soul is powerful enough to bring even the most infamous villains to their knees. I stare, and I fall into a daze, but until recently, until this moment, I don’t truly see.
That can wait for a moment.
I watch you zip about the street, saving every and anyone from anything resembling danger. Not even a rabbit is at risk of suffering the enemy of the week’s wrath. You make a scarlet streak with your speed, and it comes to a stop when you finally reach me. I should appreciate it for its deeper meaning.
I don’t.
I watch your heart get thrown about. I won’t say something like ‘they didn’t deserve you’, because no one does. No one could possibly be worth your time, your light. I’ve met so many of those you’re enraptured with, and yet they remain a mere candle in contrast to your starlight.
I hold back the ‘I told you so’ waiting on my tongue. The constructs of happiness, joy, love, and hope that stand proud and resolute in your eyes are crumbling around the edges. Not falling down, no. You’re much too strong and too caring.
For now, you crack. You bend, but you never break. You trust me to glue whatever falls off back together. I never say it, but I would take apart my soul to fix you.
Your hoodie has a loose thread, crimson jarring against the pale cerulean of my sheets. I ignore that as well.
I trust you with my life; I suppose that’s implicit, though. I get a little reckless, I’ll admit, but most of that courageousness stems from the fact that I know you’ll catch me. I should stop, I know I should, but you’ve never let me fall.
Except that I’ve fallen for you in a way that you don’t seem to see. That has been the one and only time you haven’t caught me.
I don’t want you to.
I pride myself on my sharp eyesight, perfected perception. This? I couldn’t plan for this.
You’re sitting on my bed once more, head on my lap as if I’m a pillow. Your eyes, astoundingly beautiful and shimmering with life, are staring at something on my ceiling. I can only stare at you.
You ask me if I believe in soulmates. I tell you the truth. You don’t believe me, though I admit it’s well-founded, what with how much of myself I put into love. Your eyes move to fixate on me. They do what they always do, and suck every ounce of air I hoped to keep in my lungs.
I don’t mind.
You ask me if friends can be soulmates. I don’t truly have an answer for you this time; I’ve never given it much thought. My gaze drags over every possible inch of your face. Your hair is the colour of the bricks I imagine our house having, several years down the road and in another universe. Your eyes remind me of the trees we used to sit under, in our younger years.
You don’t look as tired as you should, for someone who has seen as many things as you have. You’re as strong as you’ve ever been, and part of me wishes the stress I feel would stay as well-hidden.
You ask me what it’s like to give your all to someone. I tell you you should know. What I don’t tell you is that it’s what I feel when I so much as think of you. You try and laugh, but the glimmer in your eyes flickers imperceptibly. My hand moves to your face on its own accord, and I can’t find it within my heart to take it back. You seem equally okay with.
You’re so warm. I know there’s a legitimate reason behind it, but the romantic in me, the one that gets stupid around you, whispers that it’s the fire of your soul. It rages in the most stunning of roars, leaving those incapable of handling your love as piles of ash.
Sometimes I wonder if I’d be able to handle it, give you what you needed, or disappoint you like so many others.
I wish I could describe the look in your eyes.
You whisper something. I don’t catch it, because my focus was so intent on your looks. My lips part in hope to ask for a repetition.
I actually see you move, and I appreciate the out. You stop halfway, head tilted strangely with lips ever-so-slightly puckered. My fingers bury themselves into the impossible mess of your ginger waves. I want to savour this, but I can tell you’re taking my hesitation the wrong way. I know you’ll bolt in less than a second, so just before I fully press my mouth to yours, I let out a whisper of my own.
Your breath hitches; from my words or my actions, I’ll never know. I try to pour every emotion you need to feel into this kiss, but I couldn’t if I tried. There’s not enough time, not enough air held in my chest.
There’s something weighing down my heart—no. No, it’s not being weighed down. I smile when I can put a name to the feeling.
A string is going taut.

I like the writing you do about dick grayson and Birdflash! Do you have any ficrecs (Ship and otherwise?) Thank You!!
N o  ,   t h a n k   y o u .
now i assume that you’re talking about dick grayson/birdflash fic recs because that was in your ask. if not idk just shoot me another ask with whatever dynamic/pairing/ship you wanted and i guarantee you i’ll have some recs for it. now let’s get to the good stuff because birdflash is one of my top otps of all time and that is saying something considering how many fandoms i’m in.
now lets start with authors. anything that padfootphrophet has ever written is so so glorious (i tried to find their tumblr and i failed i’m sorry). be sure to check them out! there’s @novaviis, the birdflash deity, we all know them. if you haven’t read watercolour then what are you doing with your life go read it right now.
time for actual fic recs! i have practically over a hundred bookmarked, so here are some of my favourites, or ones that i think need more love. (be sure to check the tags on all of them, there are some squicks and/or triggering content in them.)
1. Summer Lovin’ by @theo-ography  4,500 words. birdflash set in the comics verse or with the titans is always my favourite, and this one is practically the best of the best! a little angsty, a little heartwearming, a little bittersweet, all-around perfect.
2. Before the End by RobinRedR 6,700 words. angst angst angst and more angst. set in the yj universe, follows dick and wally as they grow up (but in reverse order) and how the two of them never got to say what they really meant until it was too late.
3. Safe and Sound by @kingburu 12,000 words. more angst. you guys can tell i have a penchant for making myself cry. wally travels forward in time after his death, you get to see how he and everyone else reacts. i loved this one so much i made a moodboard for it.
4. Strawberry Punch by @synxailla (sorry if i linked the wrong tumblr, it wasn’t in the fic so i did a little digging.) 38,000 words. one of the best birflash fics out there. set in the yj universe, and god, dick and wally are so cute in this one. also, wally is unabashedly, totally, completely in awe of everything robin does. its adorable.
5. Mainline by @kazyre 232,000 words. this is the ultimate hurt!wally fic, and it’s a ride. featuring most of the flash fam from the comics, a whole bunch of heroes dc always forget about, and wally being an absolute badass. also, this is probably the worst rudy fic out there. wait,,,,that came out wrong. what i mean is that rudy crosses the line from bad parent, skips over asshole, and goes straight into main villian. this fic is long, plotty, wally-centric, and super fun to read.
6. Every Fiber of My Being by @lanestreets 21,000 words. i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again. my absolute favourite dick grayson and birdflash fics in existence. unlike the last one, this fic is dick-centric, but the way birdflash is done is beautiful. you absolutely will not regret this one, i promise you that
7. In Ice and Fire by RedRobinR 7,000 words. this one’s a little dark and a little creepy and lot wonderful. birdflash vampire au, and it’s just so well written. kind of and out-there au for this particular rec list, but i urge you to give it a read. i made a moodboard for this one too.
8. the heavy weight of living by @satellites (once again, super sorry if i got the wrong user, i just sort of took a shot in the dark) 3,500 words. one of the coolest, sweetest aus out there. civvies au where dick and wally survive the zombie apocalypse. i’ve been meaning to make a moodboard for this one, if someone reads this fic and likes it enough to request one i’ll do it.
9. Starbucks Epiphanies by maidenofsouls 2,000 words. fluff fluff fluff adorableness my heart is bursting. this is a perfect representation of wally’s oh shit i’m in love with him moment and it was just SO CUTE. just,,,,,,go read it. i need to make a moodboard for this one too. UGH i have too many ideas.
10. Sadist by birdflashshipper 11,500 words. i just,,,,,,,,,,you know what. i’m not even sorry. imma end this fic rec with a bang, and if that bang happens to be heavy smut with a whole bunch of bdsm sprinkled in, then so be it. except this is,,,,like,,,, well written smut. with feels. and dick’s escrima sticks are a wonderful guest star. so yea if that’s your thing then definitely give this a read.
so there are some of my favs, would absolutely recommend, i go back and read them all the time. if you want more, or if you want a fic rec for another dynamic/ship/fandom, my askbox is always open!

Do I Look Pretty?
Title: Do I Look Pretty?
Rating: Implied NSFW
Warnings: N/A
Word Count: 987
Fandom:  DC
Ship: Birdflash
Summary: Based on this prompt.
Notes: So I didn't know if this anon wanted feminine Wally or female Wally. If you wanted female Wally hmu with another prompt anon!
There was heat, a lot of heat. Dick could feel his entire body heating up, no doubt in his mind that he was bright red. He searched for the words that he wanted to say, but pathetic stammering is what came out instead. His eyes were wide and blue as ever, and his face held a look of shock and… love?
Wally hadn’t even noticed the younger boy until the stammering grew louder. Words fell out of the ginger’s mouth at speedster pace, and Dick was only able to pick up key words.
Wally realized his error and slowed his speech, blushing profusely. “I-if you don’t like it I c-could change, you know it would only take me a second-d.” Wally shifted slightly as if he was going to run back into the room he had exited, but Dick called out for him to stay.
They stood there in silence for a few moments, Dick stared at Wally as Wally peered down at the floor, embarrassed to catch his lover’s eyes.
“Can you say something, I think I might just die,” Wally said with an awkward chuckle.
“Arătaţi frumos,” Dick whispered as a wide grin broke out across his bright face.
“W-what?” Wally inquired, despite knowing exactly what Dick was saying in the younger boy’s mother tongue.
“You look beautiful, absolutely astonishing.”
The noiret approached his shorter boyfriend, wrapping his arms around him. “Turn around babe.”
Wally promptly spun, now having the ability to see his own reflection in the full-length mirror. He suddenly felt very shy as he examined his outfit fully.
“Well, err… A-are you s-sure?” The green-eyed boy questioned with a sudden inability to peer at himself in the mirror. He caught Dick’s eye in the mirror and felt even more embarrassed as he caught the taller boy licking his lips and looking him up and down.
Wally suddenly grew fascinated with the visibles stitches of his short pink dress while he nervously bit the inside of his cheek. His embarrassment kept him so preoccupied that he hadn't noticed when Dick walked behind him. Warm hands wrapped around his waist as Dick’s lips kissed up and down his neck.
“I’ve never been more sure of anything,” Wally shivered as Dick’s low whisper reached his ear, melting in Dick’s grasp. “You should dress like this more often baby boy.”
Dick was basically growling into Wally’s ear and suddenly the smaller boy was hot for an entirely different reason. Wally was suddenly very conscious of Dick’s problem, so they made their way to the bedroom so Wally could fix the problem.
Upon finishing their… escapades, Waller threw on another sundress, this time it was black with various coloured flowers on it. As they walk out of Dick’s room, Wally walks right into something that feels like a brick wall. He looks up a little to lock eyes with Jason Todd.
“Er.. Hey Jason,” Wally stutters out as the younger boy took in his appearance.
Jason bursts into laughter, laughing until he notices a disapproving look from Dick. By the time Jason calms down Wally is completely red all over, and Jason realizes his mistake.
“You look, uh, pretty West.” With that, Jason blushed and left.
“You know, in his Robin days he had a really big crush on you?” Dick teased, trying to lighten the mood.
“Go figure,” Wally responded, blushing again.
They decided to just return to Dick’s room to chill and watch some movies, so Wally changed into some short shorts and one of Dick’s shirts and lay on the bed.
“Are you alright baby?” Dick inquired, looking down at the ginger boy in his arms.
“Yeah, surprisingly I’m cool,” Wally responded and nuzzled into the taller boy.
Dick leaned down to kiss the ginger hair, “You’re so cute, who knew you’d look so amazing in a dress.” Wally laughed in response, uncurling from around the boy and putting his hands on the blue-eyed boy’s chest.
“Maybe I’m cute, but not as cute as you, I mean listen to that laugh,” Wally teased as Dick briefly looked confused.
Wally’s hands found their way to Dick’s hips quickly. “Dohohohohon’t!”
Dick tried to buck and bat the older boy off, but he was at a ticklish loss. The older boy was only half an inch or so shorter than the blue-eyed boy, and of course he was a lot faster.  Wally prided himself in his ability to tear Dick apart with tickles no matter how old the two were.
Wally let his hands roam the toned abs beneath his finger. Dick giggled as his face scrunched up. Wally’s hands were slow and methodical as they traced every line and grove of Dick’s abdomen.
“Hehehehehe Wahahahalls stahahahap! Stahahap ihihihihit! NohohohoHOHOHOHO AHAHAHAHAHA,” Dick’s laughter rose as Wally dipped a nimble finger into his belly button. Dick bucked inwards, making the sensation infinitely worse.
Wally’s fingers skitted up and down Dick’s sensitive sides and laughed at the various reactions he received. His fingers found their way into the hollows of Dick’s armpits and the younger boy’s bucking increased as his pleads grew more desperate.
“WAHAHAHAHALLY NOHOHO! BEHEHE NIHIHICE,” Dick chuckled.
“You know what? I’ll stop in a sec babe, just one more thing.”  Wally’s lips made contact with the soft skin of Dick’s hipbones. The younger boy sucked in as much breath as he could in an attempt to escape the torture.
“No no no Wally don’t please baby boy,” Dick softly giggled in anticipation. A few silent moments passed, and Dick could feel his nerves tingling as he waited for the inevitable feeling that would be Wally vibrating lips on his hip.
The feeling quickly arrived and Dick was thrown into loud, bubbly laughter while tears streamed down his face. “WAHAHAHAHALLY NOHOHOHOHO! STAHAHAHAP NOHOHOHOHOW!”
After a few minutes of continuous torture, Wally ceased, laying down next to his boyfriend again.
“So, Netflix?” He said cheerfully.
“I hate you.”

aaaaahh i loved that birdflash fic! for a prompt: 15, 17, or 30? (i couldnt decide so pick your favorite) also if u need extra inspiration i am a Huge Fan of ambiguous birdflash (are they the closest of friends?? boyfs??? who knows but they love each other so much !!)
Great suggestions, and I’m glad you liked my other fic! I decided to go with 17: When the broken glass litters the floor. (And the prompts are from this list here if you’re curious.) I’ve written so many different variations of this, but today I got a sudden burst of inspiration and pulled this together in about three hours. Writing is weird.
Title: This Cage of Glass
Summary:  Sometimes it’s when we can’t have something that we realize how much we needed it in the first place. Or, that time Wally came too close to losing Dick and it made him realize some feelings he couldn’t place before. AO3
Over the years of being a vigilante, Wally has seen a lot of traps. A lot of really good, really well-hidden traps. So one would think that, after all of this experience, he would look for traps before (literally) running into things.
Well, one would be wrong.
Because Dick is missing. Dick is missing and he’s not answering his comm. He could be hurt—or worse—and Wally is panicking. Dick is his best friend; Dick is, well, Dick.
He knows Dick can take care of himself. He’s been doing the vigilante thing way longer than Wally has—he knows that. But feelings are stronger than logic, and worry without evidence is more blinding than reassurances without weight.
Besides, if there’s ever even the slightest chance that something is wrong, that Dick is in danger, Wally will come running. Always.
And that’s what he does, that’s what he’s doing. He’s running at full speed, so when he finally sees Dick tied up in the center of a room, he doesn’t stop to think. He just runs towards him and—
Smacks into something hard enough to send him to the floor reeling.
Had he paid more attention, he would’ve seen warning in Dick’s wide eyes and shaking head. Warning that said: slow down, idiot, there’s a glass wall in front of you!
“Whuh,” Wally slurs as he pushes himself up onto his elbows, letting himself lean against them until the world stops spinning. He blinks a few times, and once the world is done spinning, he focuses on what he had just run into: a giant glass cylinder.
Wally mentally shakes himself, then gets up on his feet and presses against the cool glass. “Hold on,” he says, “I’ll figure out how to get you out of here.”
Except, Wally has no idea how he’ll do that. Running into the thing at full speed didn’t leave anything even resembling a crack, and running was kind of his go-to thing.
He looks around the room, hoping to find something to whack against it. Maybe that in addition to his speed could get a crack in after a few rounds. And, he loves Dick, but he’d much prefer to get Dick out of the cage without a concussion. So he puts body-ramming on the back-burner and gets to searching.
.
.
.
He finds nothing.
“Okay, okay,” Wally says, mostly to himself. “I-I’ll look for a weak spot. Yeah.”
And so he looks. He checks every spot—twice—even running up the thing to check the top. Instead he comes back feeling more defeated: there are no air vents. No air vents mean Dick has a limited air supply, which means every second Wally doesn’t get him out of there is another second closer to Dick suffering from hypoxia.
Wally bites his lip and thinks, only looking back at Dick when he notices movement in the corner of his vision.
Dick hasn’t moved from the center of the cage, so Wally guesses he’s stuck there somehow, but he can’t see exactly what is preventing movement. Dick does, however, have full motion of his head, and he’s using that to his advantage in an attempt to get the gag off. It doesn’t take long, and soon a saliva-soaked (and slightly bloody, but Wally isn’t going to focus on that right now, okay?) gag is pushed out of his mouth to hang from his neck.
He expects Dick to shout some master plan at him, or even tell Wally where some secret lever that will lift the cage off of him is. He doesn’t expect Dick to smirk and ask, “You good? Looked like you hit your head a little hard back there.”
Wally’s lips tug into a brief smile, feeling a little less freaked out that Dick is at least okay enough to make jokes. But Dick’s voice is breathy like he’s not getting enough oxygen. Which is obviously bad, it’s just that Wally doesn’t think that Dick has been in there long enough for him to be running out of oxygen. Something else must be going on. And yeah, Wally might not have all of the facts (for all he knows, this villain decided to suck most of the air out of the cage before fleeing), but signs are pointing towards a chest injury.
Either way, it means they’re running out of time faster than Wally previously thought. And that? That worries Wally in more ways than one.
Although, he’s sure Dick is way more aware of the severity of this situation, and Wally voicing it will just add to Dick’s anxiety. So he doesn’t mention it. Instead, he tries to play along, keep things calm.
“Psh, never better. What about you, Boy Wonder?”
Dick pauses, shifts slightly. Then, “Getting there.”
That snatches the almost-comfort away from Wally faster than it came.
He swallows. “So, got any ideas on how to get you out of this?”
Dick frowns. “He stole all of my gear and I have no idea where he took it.”
And sure enough, upon closer inspection, Dick’s gloves, boots, cape, and belt are all missing.
“Hey, that’s okay. Um,” Wally trails off, trying to think of a good plan while weighing their current options.
He could go look for Dick’s utility belt, but Wally doesn’t think that would be a smart use of their oh-so-limited time. Mostly because it’s highly unlikely that the belt is still in the building, but also because, even if Wally did find it, it probably wouldn’t be of any use to them. Sure, Robin had batarangs in his belt, but Wally doesn’t think they’d be able to cut through the glass. Robin’s explosives wouldn’t work either; Dick would be too close to the blast-zone to come out unscathed. Lifting the cage off of the ground was also a no-go because—last he checked—neither of them had super strength and Wally doesn’t have Superman on speed-dial. All of that left him needing to come up with a way to break the cage in a way that causes minimal (preferably no) damage to Dick.
“Oh! Maybe I can vibrate the glass and make it shatter!” Wally shouts, buzzing with excitement.
Dick hesitates, looking up at the glass ceiling. “Might work. Just,” Dick grunts, and Wally looks closer and notices that his hands are moving now, “just need to… get out of these,” he pauses to take a few breaths, “so I can… cover my face.”
Right. Shattered glass would be sharp, and it would fall directly on top of Dick, who would be completely defenseless. If things went as planned, the shard would be small and relatively harmless, but there was a chance that a big piece would break off. And if landed right, it could be deadly.
Wally nods, trying to ignore images of Dick’s lifeless body with a sharp piece of glass sticking out of his skull, trying to ignore how out of breath it’s making Dick to try to free himself.
“Just zip ties,” Dick assures him, telling Wally that he isn’t doing a good job of hiding his concern. “Practiced a million… times with Batman. Almost had ‘em… before you… got here.”
Wally nods again and starts pacing. Minutes pass, and Wally can hear Dick’s breathing, and he swears the glass is starting to fog up. Wally tries to think of other ideas, and he’s about to suggest one when Dick finally shouts, “Got it!”
Wally whoops and jumps in the air, filled with relief and a new-found energy. They were going to get out of this!
He puts both of his hands against the glass cage and waits for Dick to tell him he’s ready. Wally takes a breath, closes his eyes, and starts to vibrate his molecules just like he had practiced with Uncle Barry. He can do this, he just needs to concentrate. It’s all in the technique.
“Shit!” Wally shouts when he feels blood leaking from his nose. He stops vibrating, leaning forward on his knees to catch his breath. “Damn it! No!”
Panic is setting in because the realization hits him like, well, like a cage of glass: Wally is going to lose Dick because he’s not a good enough speedster.
So many things they’ll never get to do—never get to be—because Wally didn’t train harder. Because he didn’t push enough.
Because he’s a failure.
He makes a fist and bangs it against the glass, a frustrated growl escaping from his throat as he does.
He barely sees Dick flinch, but he does see it. And it makes him feel awful and guilty for being frustrated when it’s his best friend who’s about to be in a glass coffin—not him. He’s supposed to make Dick feel safe, and right now, Wally’s doing the exact opposite.
“You almost had it,” Dick tells him, comforts him. “Take-take a break and… and try again, yeah?”
Wally nods. He’ll do anything Dick asks—anything. If it means getting Dick out of here, he’ll try a million times. He’ll try until he can’t.
He wipes the blood away from his nose, takes a breath, and puts his hands back up against the no-longer cool glass. Then he starts again.
The blood is coming out of his nose stronger and faster than before, but Wally doesn’t stop. He closes his eyes; he can feel that he’s close. Just a little faster.
He feels the glass give way, then he hears the beautiful sound of shattering glass.
He’s hot, out of breath, and full of relief. He’s kneeling at Dick’s side just as the last of the broken glass litters the floor. He lifts him into a sitting position by his biceps, mindful of the (small) glass shards that managed to pierce themselves into his skin. Superficial wounds that are meaningless because they’re getting out of here together in one piece.
Dick doesn’t hold himself up, just leans against Wally and pants for a few seconds. Then, he lifts his head up and smiles at Wally. “Have I ever told you that I love you?”
Wally huffs out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding in. There’s so much he wants to say, but that can be for later. When Dick isn’t hurt and freaked out, when Wally isn’t hyped on adrenaline. When it’s just the two of them together and calm, not in a state of relief because the other just saved their life.
So instead he offers his own soft smile and says, “Let’s get you home.”
