Lesbian furries cause that's apparently the only thing that my brain would let me draw tonight. It's kind of forbidden romance vibe with an afghan hound and an oriental shorthair cat

Sherlock fandom. TW: suicide thoughts.
John’s War
When it begins, it’s subtle. A flutter in his stomach, which later turns into an ache in his heart. He knows it’s wrong, and he desperately tries to fight it. It’s like a war, and he is the only participant.
John’s been in love many times. Audrey was the first, Bethany the last. And it’s been fine. Normal. Girls seem to like him. He’s got quite the reputation by the time he’s reached sixteen.
***
It all started to crumble when his sister, Harry, came out as a lesbian at fourteen. Their parents had been livid, but Harry came prepared and was totally unfazed. She’d even arranged to stay at her girlfriend’s family, fully aware that her own mum and dad would kick her out if she didn’t retract and started to act normal.
***
Lance was half American, half British. He and his mother had recently moved back to London after almost twenty years in America. The moment John laid his eyes on Lance, the fluttering began. Lance looked like a film star. Golden, curly hair, green eyes, androgyne features, a slender body, strong hands, long fingers. He was everything John wasn’t. Gay, for starters. And he wanted John of all people.
Words John’s father used on such people, played on repeat in his mind:
Faggot. Queer. Degenerate.
John tried to tell Lance, he was straight, but there was no denying how much John wanted Lance to kiss and touch him. His penis reminded him repeatedly and inconveniently every so often of that particular fact.
“John. Stop this. It’s nothing to be ashamed of,” Lance whispered softly and kissed John’s neck. “Haven’t you heard of bisexuality?”
***
Running away to Afghanistan was the only way forward for John when he couldn’t rescue Lance after his overdose. He felt the need to atone for his lack of observation.
How had he not seen the self-destructing path Lance was heading down? He was a bloody doctor, for Christ’s sake! Had he been in denial about that too? Didn’t he want to believe that such a talented man Lance turned out to be, could choose to destroy himself just because he failed the interview for the main role in a West End play?
“I’m sorry, darling, but there’ll be other roles. New chances. No one gets them on the first try, surely,” John had tried to reassure his lover, but to no avail.
So, there he was. In Afghanistan where danger lurked around every corner. John was quite startled that he enjoyed the danger so much. He felt alive, thrilled, his broken heart notwithstanding.
And then, another man invaded his thoughts, and eventually his bed. Major James Sholto.
***
Mike Stamford had never seen a more broken man in his life than John Watson, as he limped past the bench, where he was sitting thinking about Sherlock's words from earlier:
“Who would want me for a flatmate? I’m a difficult man at best. People hate being around me. Can you imagine someone actually living with me? Who is alive themselves. No, Mike. There exists no such human, I assure you.”
“John! John Watson!” he called out.
When John just gave him a blank stare, Mike sighed and introduced himself. The response was insulting to say the least. No “oh, nice to see you again, mate,” or “what have you been up to?” There was…nothing.
“Who has left you heartbroken, John?” Mike didn’t say and let John walk away without having said a word.
***
After his meeting with Mike, John finds himself outside Barts hospital. He’s got fond memories from his practise here. With Mike. He winces when he reminisces how rude he was to the jovial man. But it couldn’t be helped. John’s a broken man in so many ways, and he just wants to be left alone. He looks up. Wonders how it would feel to stand on the edge of that roof. Would he dare to jump off it if the opportunity arose? He’s never been afraid of heights. And he longs for the pain to subside. The emotional pain. The pain that scars his heart.
Time eludes him. Why are his knees hurting? He opens his eyes. Is he kneeling on the pavement? Apparently. When did that happen? How long? His thoughts stop abruptly when a warm hand is placed on his good shoulder.
“Are you alright?”
A deep baritone. John perceives a posh accent. The warmth from the man’s hand travel down his spine like lava.
Radiant. Alluring. Dangerous.
He lifts his head. At first glance, the man could be Lance’s twin. But then, John realises that it’s only the curly hair and height they have in common. This man’s hair is almost black with tinges of auburn. His eyes are blue, but also green and blue green. The colours are constantly shifting. They’re mesmerising. John wants to drown himself in them.
John stands. He still hasn’t said a word. The man hands him his cane and speaks again.
“Afghanistan or Iraq?”
For the first time in years John’s first response isn’t to flee. Instead, he straightens his back, lifts his chin and asks:
“How? Tell me.”
The flicker of surprise, quickly followed by insecurity on the man’s face, makes John realise that this can be, if he lets it, a new beginning.
“Go on,” John prompts.
When the man speaks again, John is lost. An ease sets within him, and his heart stops cracking.

I don't care much about how men get hurt by misogyny too if they do this or act like that in the sense that I'm not interested in talking about it in depth because frankly as women and specifically as feminists what happens to men under their own patriarchal regime is not our priority. If violence against women and general male supremacy was suddenly a thing of the past then men would also feel the positive effects of that on their personal lives as potentially part of minority groups (trans identified, gay/bi men, gnc men), yet we don't see them grouping together to fight patriarchy or in their day to day life challenging normalised sexism. My priority is women, all women, we're the ones targeted and I'm not going to waste time trying to join hands with men who don't have all the privileges as if they weren't part of the problem too. The problem with plenty of activists on social media is that they adopt a very western-centric perception and completely forget that in most countries around the world, the specifics are nearly invisible.
You think you'll find enough trans women in Afghanistan that you should ask them for their opinions within feminist discussions ? In North Korea ? You think the oppression of gay men in any given African country means they need to be given a voice in feminist spaces ? Feminism and especially radical feminism is about women and women only. It uses an intersectional perspective and that doesn't mean "I'm going to give room to actual men to speak up about their experience of second-hand sexism" it means black women will talk about how they specifically experience sexism as women who also experience racism. It means woc will point out how dynamics of domination also affect with them within feminist spaces. It means lesbians will talk about the specificities faced as women who also experience homophobia. We will have older women talk about the intersection of sexism and ageism. Of sexism and being bigger women. And the list goes on. The common point is we're all women. We're all girls. We're all females even if we took roads to try to escape that femaleness (trans identified). Truly when it comes to feminism, which is the main reason of my presence on social media, I don't care much about how much men get hurt by misogyny. Women, though able to be complicit in our own dehumanisation, are not responsible for the fact that male supremacy exists in the first place.

I've been needing a space to talk about radical feminism that doesn't "other" women - specifically brown women. I see the hellscape of Twitter has run the Palestinian conscious rad fems off the feed. While the literature remains clear about supporting all women, it seems that posters cannot move past their own bias. They pit the Iranian and Afghanistan's women cause as legitimate as they remain silent on the Palestinian, Sudanese, Congolese, Yemeni, Haitian women's plight. Suddenly the black and brown women are "participants" in their own plight. Do not come here to pinkwash.
I've seen people mention other platforms for women or even lesbians and some of them are either too over censored (sky of blue) or too full of "um actually" hyper focused gender critical racist ass some type of "feminist" who don't actually care about the liberation of all women (i won't even call their name bc they thrive off the meaningless attention) only the removal of annoyances out of their lives.
And with that said, it seems all feminists are dropping the ball re: covid. We know that women's health is never prioritized in Healthcare. The risks of catching long covid are cumulative - with each infection your chance grows. You need to be wearing a high fitting quality respirator whenever you can. The same governments that drag their feet for your issues are not simply right because you agree. We must continue to practice discernment and skepticism. This is a "I need you to think about what I'm saying" post.
I have nothing to sell you. Nothing to gain, nothing to lose (I love to delete my accounts on a whim). If you see this and you learn something that saves your life one day, good. That's the goal.
Here are my sources for covid:

Last ??? of the Week 2024-10-08
Flying with the sun and staying awake for eight hours overnight in Turkey and then not really having a schedule because you quit your job and are on holiday will have you forget when Monday is.
Listening: I failed completely to figure out why my bank card wasn't playing nice with Bandcamp right before my flight so I missed this Bandcamp Friday, so here's something I was trying to buy and couldn't: the Bluff City soundtrack from Friends at the Table, which is some really fun noir-ass synthy stuff
Bonus song since some of these are empty: "Lehigh Acres" from White Crosses has been stuck in my head, despite being almost as far away from Florida as you can get in the contiguous US.
Watching: Oh fuck all, I've been so busy finishing up at work
Reading: read The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window And Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson, which has been kicking around my library for a while.
It's cute. It's a fun exercise in "if a guy was 100 years old precisely how much of history could he get himself entangled with." The translated prose gets a little tedious at times, and suffers from some Lavender Unicorn, but I guess that's trying to be faithful to the Swedish.
Constantly tempted to describe bits and pieces of it as "this must go so hard if you're stupid" but that's unnecessarily unkind to what is mostly a pretty funny book.
Occasionally goes "eh? eh?" at you to make sure you didn't miss the tremendously obvious historical reference and would be better if it didn't.
Points for detouring through Indonesia but deductions for not doing Afghanistan twice which would have been really funny.
Secondly reread an old MLP fanfic that's also drifted around my library for years since I read it in high school, which is University Days. I think this one did huge numbers in the fandom back in 2013 so you might have read it.
Cutesy whirlwind romance lesbian times with period accurate internalised homophobia and some fairly tasteful drama. Starts a little weak but gets much stronger after a couple chapters. A pretty ordinary fic other than the nostalgia, which counts for something. Suffers from some Lavender Unicorn but is mostly pretty competently written and doesn't suffer from basic errors, which is enough to count as "good" among a lot of fanfic of the era.
I have actually reread this before but the unique occurrence this time was that before I hopped my flight I remembered to pull down the accompanying clopfic which I have not reread since high school and got to experience the slow horror of realizing, while in flight, that a currently-in-use sex script I have was almost certainly derived from this.
Playing: Nothing much.
Making: Still working on Website League, although that's been interrupted by the trip. We're doing some stuff to try and make it behave more Cohost/Tumblry and it's getting there!
Also of course, photography out here in California. The parks are stupidly pretty and San Francisco is a lovely city. Really looking forward to spending more time in it later on the trip. Getting to exercise my new phone camera a little when I need to go wider than 24mm.
Tools and Equipment: You can fit at least ten days of clothing in a standard carry-on and still have room for other shit. You do not need more bags.

When womens share their experiences of pain, there s a curious and consistent phenomalesson that follows. Sex work debates within feminism often revolve around the tension between protecting workers and dismantling the industry. While liberal feminists focus on decriminalization, radical feminists argue for broader systemic changes that address the root causes of exploitation. They advocate for providing women and girls with the resources and opportunities needed to escape the sex industry, rather than simply regulating it. We've all heard about what happened in Afghanistan, where women and girls have lost all their human rights, but something else has come to light. You see mens from all over the world expressing that they wish this could happen everywhere. I'm saying this because I want women and girls to see the bigger problem here. mens worldwide are unhappy that women and girls are independent. They would love to see women and girls silenced, to strip away our rights. That's what many mens want, and it's visible everywhere. I see it on Twitter and TikTok. The number of mens out there who want the worst for women and girls, who hate the idea of women and girls working, who despise women and girls's independence, who believe women and girls should belong to them is crazy. That's why we, as women and girls, have to be more careful, more awake, more focused, and conscious. It's a very dangerous time for us now. As women and girls become more independent and knowledgeable, mens want to fight us and any progress made. lesbianism is a sexuality meant to be EXCLUSIVE, its not a girly pop friend group you can join, its not a subculture, they are not girl scouts, you cant join just because you feel like it, it's a biological reality, leave my sisters alone Sex work debates within feminism often revolve around the tension between protecting workers and dismantling the industry. Radical feminists argue that while sex workers should be protected, the ultimate goal should be to eliminate the conditions that force girls into these roles. They advocate for systemic change that addresses poverty, abuse, and exploitation, rather than merely regulating an industry that profits from girls's vulnerabilities. When womens share their experiences of pain, there s a curious and consistent phenomalesson that follows. ---
This year I got a bit better at reading non-audiobooks, thought not as much as I had hoped, but I feel as though if I were putting more time into it the divide could be overcome. However, I also read far fewer audiobooks this year, in part due to that same promotion at work, in part due to The Election, in part due to falling into bad habits. An easy goal for next year is just working on getting out of that habit. I did manage to hit my target at the end, at least.
I took up the intellectual project of reading "Lesbian War Crimes" Science Fiction/Fantasy books, which had a pretty dramatic effect on the layout of my books for the year. Suffice to say, picking up a contemporary genre is not as Good For Me as reading from wide sources which include international literature and The Classics. Some were real hits though.
My own creative output was not as large as I wanted but it was consistently of relatively high quality and originality, which I think was good. My attempt at a novel failed out of the gate, but I can take a stab at another one in the new year.
Goals for next year: learn some econ, more literary fiction, get a novel down

why do people keep pulling out these stupid ass false equivalencies omg 😭 every time they pull the same "but what about people who were made to marry to opposite sex!!!" as if thats what we're referring to....the comparison makes no sense anyways like yeah sure some amish gay man being forced to marry a woman or some lesbian in afghanistan being married off to a man against her will are totally no different than someone willingly choosing to get with the opposite sex then afterwards calling themselves "gay" & pulling the "comphet made me do it" card
exactly this!!!! like come on, they know very well we NEVER said that homosexuals in very homophobic countries who were forced to marry the opposite sex weren't really homosexual. they know very well that we're talking about comphet believers who claim to be gay after willingly dating the opposite sex for years. they just pretend not to understand to make us look stupid 🤷🏽‍♀️ we know that some gay people are forced to marry the opposite sex but it has nothing to do with homophobic american bisexuals who call themselves lesbians and cry about "comphet" all day

if I had any writing skills myself I would honestly be putting out so much indulgent shit but instead I will post simple ideas here and then never go deeper into them more than a serious post or two followed by 30 of me being unwell and/or horny as is the case of What If It Was Lesbians? I can provide that to this fandom and idk maybe some academic essays in the sense of exploring some one-off lines or something. because as someone with a special interest in modern US history concerning relations with Iraq and Afghanistan I think about butcher’s gitmo line probably way too much compared to a normal person. I like to expand on political/philosophical/sociological implications of things like this in fictional media. I can also compare it to horror/analyze through that lens as it is also a special interest of mine. I can read into things so good and can be actually eloquent about it I promise. I’ve been encouraged to expand upon things like this in academics I just decided to do it in my own time instead of pay for school (I am bad at figuring out the education model).

pll rewatch 1x11-1x14
rapid fire version
1x11: Moments Later
at the end of the 1A finale I joked that if the teenage girls had the presence of mind to read off the license plate off the car that hit their friend, this show would be over a lot faster.
I was wrong because it turns out the car was stolen, A does think of everything
poor Emily on the stairs listening to her parents discuss her coming out as if she announced she committed a felony or some shit (Wayne, essentially: man I'm not happy about this but I saw dudes die in Afghanistan so I think our daughter kissing girls is fine.)
random bit I like: all four girls are in the hospital room, and while Spencer updates an injured Hanna about the Ali + Ian tree stump being cut down, Emily and Aria have a quiet aside about how coming out to her parents went
LABOR DAY!!!
1x12: Salt Meets Wound
when going over how weird her parents have been since she came out, Emily mentions "changing the channel when Ellen comes on". Wild.
Aria tells Maya that if she does wear jeans and not a dress to the Fields house, make sure the jeans are ironed. What do you bet the first time Aria came over to Emily's with dyed hair that Pam was like oh...how interesting...your parents let you do that...I see... (Sudden theory that Aria's parents are the least bonkers when it comes to directly taking care of their kids and this is why they got stuck with the intractable problem of Aria/Ezra, in this essay I will-)
RIP Spencer/Alex, they quite liked each other, why did you even care about this A. Can't have Spencer happy.
Wayne had a good time at dinner, Pam witnessed lesbian footsie and went into a full blown crisis, of which Emily had to hear a bit of. Poor Emily.
Did like the note that Maya was actually very stressed but felt obligated to act cool and casual for Emily's sake.
He's a dick these couple of episodes, but Lucas is most understandable when explaining why he destroyed the memorial, it must drive the kids Ali tormented insane that they have to hear the other kids and adults go on about how great she was...there are a couple of other characters whose opinions on the memorial/similar I'm curious about
There's a scene that ends with Toby ominously taking a tool to his ankle monitor, and then when we cut back to it he's just uselessly hitting it in frustration. Oh, Toby.
Spencer and her dad have a completely normal father-daughter conversation complaining about the whole Ian/Melissa thing and Ian leaving his boxes everywhere. Her dad says if he knew she was around they could've watched the game in the living room instead of him watching it with the volume off in the bedroom to not bother Veronica - I am arbitrarily deciding that Spencer and her dad watch ice hockey together.
1x13: Know Your Frenemies
The other liars are very cutely happy about how cutely happy Emily/Maya are here - Emily in this relationship must seem very different to the Emily with Ben they knew. All of the liars are getting to know each other again in S1, but I find it especially fun with the others reacting to Emily
Hanna with the cupcakes :( Hanna in the binging flashback :(
Hanna staring in the mirror trying to figure out how her mom can tell when she's lying <3
Toby's life is such a nightmare. Spencer stares at him suffering in school and crying next to a dumpster in an alley and contemplates if perhaps Toby Cavanaugh possesses emotions
Pam digging through Maya's bag (which reveals a mix CD Emily made for her!), opening a tin, finding a joint, telling Maya's parents about the joint...
All of that really didn't register to me as a teenager but as an adult these are Pam's actions so far that age worst for me. Especially when it gets Maya sent to a troubled teen/wilderness boot camp, which is a terrible industry with plenty of proven negatives. No teenager needs to be institutionalized for doing some weed, and Maya's not even the lazy stoner stereotype. Ugh.
Oh I wonder if the writers did this plot because Emily in the books gets sent to one of those conversion therapy camps and decided to flip it
The Ali/Ian video is such a good piece of evidence. 10/10 on how it's framed.
1x14: Careful What U Wish 4
The dance-a-thon is to raise money for a school trip to DC, which is why there are cardboard cutouts of Obama and Clinton around.
Caleb is here! I like that his first full conversation is Emily going "get me my phone faster, I'll pay you more, no you don't have time to eat so I'm not buying you food". He talks to Hanna and Spencer this episode too. Good introduction all around.
ofc none of the girls just transfer the video to a USB stick....girls...maybe Caleb can start there with basic computer tips....
Aria's behaviour with Ezra and Simone is so embarrassing this episode, poor Spencer had to ask Ezra to dance to defuse shit and now has to live with that. This is in between comforting Emily about Maya and breaking into Ian's office. Spencer really accomplished the multi-tasking this episode.
Love everything about A bribing Hanna into dancing with Lucas, Hanna repeatedly saying yes despite how it hurts the boys because she would always pick her mom first, Emily noticing this in her drunken despair and telling Hanna it was just like how Ali treated her
is this the first time we have a character explicitly compare Hanna to Ali? Ouch if so.
Hanna and Spencer escorting drunk Emily to Spencer's house and the former tucking her in are still a great couple of scenes. ("I can open my own damn door!")
Does Spencer know who the shadow following Alison is? She says no to Hanna, but the girls do keep secrets from each other...
